This is the original Reata. I originally ate here 30 years ago. And then coming back, I was pleasantly surprised. The menu still contains some old favorites and some new dishes as well. The quail is the best I've had. Worth it.

I enjoyed my Carne Asada with Cheese Enchiladas. Our servers were great.

Came here for my birthday and the food was AMAZING! My mom and I are very picky eaters, and I had just finished a two-day food fast a few days prior to eating here and my stomach digested everything well. Our favorites were the tortilla soup and the quail, and they are both worth the drive! The only complaint was their menu was outdated and many things that were listed weren't available such as mezcal and other items.

This place is wonderful. I do suggest getting a reservation. The soup and salads are fantastic. It's hard to decide on an entree, they are all so good.

The service was awesome. We had Chicken Frued Steak (we split plate i have cancer and eat little) i had asparagus wrapped in bacon and it was all excellent! Bart General Manager on duty as always and has a smile for everyone. Our server worked her stationary whole and was very attentive. Keep up the great service. Be back to eat again!

Reservations recommended for the weekends!!!! We went on a Saturday evening and we're able to be seated because we only had a party of 2 and arrived early. I had the "Citrus Crusted Chicken w/ Rosemary...". It was absolutely amazing! My husband had the "Ribeye" and he said it was DELICIOUS! Pecan rolls served pre dinner are sooo yummy! (Server asker about nut allergies before serving us). Onion rings - out of this world! Tamale Bread Pudding Dessert - I loved it, hubby found it to be too much (very rich and sweet). The atmosphere was very classy and relaxing. Server was very attentive.

This was our second visit. Everything was excellent. I had the chicken fried steak, which was phenomenal. I personally love the murals painted on the walls outside, you can see them through the windows. A beautiful job. We didn't have a reservation, but we were there early enough to get a table. I recommend a reservation if you plan to go. It might not be needed, but it's better to be prepared. ❤️

I grew up in Ft. Worth where we have a Reata Restaurant. It was the graduation, big promotion type of venue. You know, something special. We were delighted to see that Alpine’s and FTW Reata’s are related. And you can tell from the fine dining pulled off effortlessly, the innovative menu and the atmosphere. I love the idea of a restaurant situated in an old house. Many of the same menu items, but a better wine and whiskey selection. Service was very good. A young man about to head off to college. Food was Excellent. We really liked the bar and it will be on our short list when we return. Although it was raining the night we were there, they appear to have an excellent back porch area that would be great summer dinners.

We didn't have reservations, and had our dog with us. They let us sit out back on the patio, which was perfect! We had the whole patio to ourselves. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The chicken fried steak was delicious, as was the sides. My husband got the sour cream enchiladas and they were good as well. I enjoyed the local Blonde beer too! The manager or owner, kindest guy ever- gave our dog a bowl of water. We had an amazing experience and would go back if time allowed!

This place was so cute and the food was very good! We got the steak tacos and the alpine nachos. The steak tacos has a lot of meat making it very filling. The steak itself was super meaty and the sauce was very flavorful. Overall me and my friend really loved the experience we had here :)

It’s been a while since I’ve written a review, but this place warranted one! Such a great menu selection - I think I would eat every single item. Walking in, the restaurant smelled pleasant, clean, and was very homey. We walked to the back patio and got to pass thru an awesome sun room with a tree growing thru the ceiling. I imagine it would be cool to dine in there as well, but we chose to sit outside. Out back, there was a great mix of plants, art, and seating that I could chill at for hours. Now for the food… WOW! We started with the crab stuffed bacon wrapped jalapeños served over grits and the tenderloin tamales topped with pecan mash. Jalapeños were cooked perfectly as to not mush but crunch when biting. Grits were perfect. The tamales were excellent, no complaints there. For dinner, I got the carne asada topped with cheese enchiladas served with rice and beans. The rice was cooked perfectly with a subtle hint of lime and cilantro, the beans were great, and the enchiladas had just enough crust on the outside from the fried cheese. The steak was very tasty, just ever so slightly over cooked from the medium rare I requested. I would 10/10 return!

Recipe for the cilantro jalepeno soup has changed and is no longer to my taste. I miss the old version. Chicken enchiladas were pretty, but dry. More sauce with less drizzle would have better. Biscuits were the best!!!

🚨 If you have a nut allergy be VERY CAREFUL!! The food was wonderful!!! The service - Marsha! ❤️- was absolutely best in the area!! The restaurant GM was incredible. The kitchen - despite inquiring and being told multiple times that we had an allergy decided to substitute their bread crumbs on the mac and cheese with pecan filled bread. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Service staff and GM were extremely apologetic, which was kind. Walked out of the restaurant shaken, but not not deterred. Regardless of the incident we will absolutely be back again - the food was delightful.

Really struggled with this review. It was going to be a three star, but server saved it. Service was slow, but they warned us as soon as we arrived they were short staffed and watched them turn those without reservations away (Make reservations!). As they were busy, we ordered everything at once. We didn't receive the appetizer we ordered, but did receive the extra sides we ordered AS appetizers?!? Food was good overall, one steak was overdone and fish was a little dry, but sides "appetizers", drinks, other steak and desserts were all great. With the initial service miss and two subpar dishes, it wasn't looking good. But, unlike the other table service restaurant in town the night before (nightmare), this server knew and acknowledged some of the problems and attempted to make it right. The servers personality, 60-70% awesome food and taking ownership of problems put it well above the experience at the other place. Remember to make that reservation!

Passing through on our way to Terlingua and we stopped for dinner. Very cute place and for the size of the town good food. We had the calf fries with cream gravy and the tortilla soup to start. Calf fries were good but not much flavor. The Tortilla soup was very good. For the main course we had the sour cream and chicken enchiladas and the avocado steak Caesar salad. Again both were good but no real flavor. Service was slow on the patio and we had to ask about a drink that ordered. Not a bad place just needs to take the food up a notch. I would stop in again if I’m in the area to see if this was an off night or the norm.

The host and our server were great. It's a nice, quaint restaurant. The jalapeno soup and creme brulee were delicious. My husband said his steak was fine, but he ordered medium rare, and it came out medium. He was OK with that. However, my chicken fried steak was possibly the worst chicken fried steak I have ever had. It was tough and stringy, and I practically had to saw through the meat. This is supposed to be a renowned restaurant, but if you can't make chicken fried steak in TEXAS, ugh.

Went here for dinner, the food was alright and the service was good. I ordered the Tortilla Soup, it was spicy, a lot of jalapeños; the Chicken Enchiladas and the Buttermilk Pie. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken, it was huge; green beans (they were too crunchy for him) and mashed potatoes. He said the food could have been hotter. It was okay food but could have been better for the price.

We choose this place since it was highly ranked. But it did not live up to that. I ordered a chicken fried chicken that was kind ofthough and not tenderized. Mashed potatoes was OK. But the broccoli had an odd and very distinctive and strong taste of anise or something similar. Odd to say the least. My wife ordered a carne asada with enchiladas. Ordered medium rare but a little over cooked and not tender. Enchiladas had a an odd flavor. Rice was cooked with curry, which is Indian or Pakistani. The pinto beans where whole and plain with no particular flavor. My brother was the only one who got a satisfactory dish pasta with shrimp that tasted good. We have eaten at a lot of nice restaurants and got good food. Our suggestion is that the chef and kitchen should focus more on food quality an find combinations with spices that will give a nice combined flavor and meal.

Started out great by getting seated at our reservation time, took a little long for waters and cocktails, appetizers came out about 20 minutes after ordering, but before the apps came out we ordered our entrees and well, they never came out. The GM came out with our dishes and gave them to someone else and didn't acknowledge what we said about those being our entrees bc we had been there before that party significantly longer, then the bartender/server asked the GM to talk to us and he said "so I guess he wanted me to talk to you, is there something you need" as I reply "yeah we've been here over an hour and still haven't received our entrees" and he walks off to check but only to see the bartender to tell him, "so are you not gonna tell them", he comes over and lets us know that our ticket had been "lost" and that it would be another 20 minutes before food would arrive. We left, but thankfully the bartender/server comp'ed what we had ordered. The bartender/server was our only semi decent experience.

Reata has long been my favorite restaurant in Alpine. I’ve been dining here since my first visit many (many) years ago and always look forward to a return visit when I’m in town and can get a reservation. This evening was such a let down. They were clearly understaffed for the number of diners but rather than turn people away they kept seating tables. I had made a reservation and arrived early, and was seated, which I appreciated. My table was the only one without a lit candle - not the end of the world. The server then brought a bread plate and silverware. When I removed the napkin and silverware from the bread plate I noticed that it was used. Not gently used, but covered in butter and other smears. I pointed this out to the server. He apologized, took it away but never brought a replacement. Or bread for that matter. When I finally got to place my order there was no discussion of options. Appetizer arrived on a greasy smudged plate, as did the entree. Food at least tasted decent but the service and presentation was just awful. Not worth $100.

Order two plates. Ordered a chicken fried steak wasn't even eatable. The meat was so tough it was a pickup order. I did show up before the food was ready and rushed home 5 min drive home to eat cuz I was ready to eat. Wasn't even eatable called the restaurant. The manager wasn't there. They told me they would call me back. Never got a call. I'm a business owner and I would love for someone to call and see if they can make it right with me before they left me a review but they never did so. This is why you're getting a bad review Plus the food wasn't good to eat!

We found this place place in Alpine to have a dinner based on reviews. Well, first impression was good until we started eating the food that we ordered. We ordered one of enchiladas available in menu, tortillas soup and mac&cheese for our son. Enchiladas had overcooked unchewable meet, and we found macaroni there - definitely wasn't somethin I wanted to pay $35 for. Our waitress didn't care, and didn't even apologize for having macaroni were it shouldn't be - she just ignored my feedback. Nice place with awful food and service - wouldn't recommend it.

What a let down. The reviews suggested this was a good place to eat. But we did not read the most recent ones and this is the problem with review systems. Apparently once the food was good. However the starter was very good but all 3 mains were terrible. So much so we all thought about where to go and get better food afterwards and then you get hit with the bill and it's expensive. Just one example of how bad the food was... The fries with the burger tasted like they where microwaved reheated after a deliver driver has driven then around the block a few times. On the upside the staff were lovely and the restaurant has a nice cabin feel to it. But the upside does not make me want to return. Hopefully they can turn this slump around but I for one will not be back to find out.
