Always amazing! Brilliant Food, Incredible choices... More important, Total Local vibe, but, only if you want (makes it better)
The best place to have drinks and get food. The staff is AWESOME. Love this place
Short and sweet: fantastic beer menu (easily the best in the neighborhood) and surprisingly great food. If you're in the neighborhood, it's a great place to go all-around.
The food is delicious (get the veggie tacos!!!) the service is quick and friendly, (and Chelsea is the besttttt!!!) trivia night is soooo much fun and the whole bar just has a great vibe in general so it's a solid choice for a good hangout spot, to watch the game or just to hang, and for their rotating on-tap craft beer collection!!!
I love this bar. It's an Astoria/Long Island City gem and should always be considered as such. Been coming here for upwards of five years now (about half of the bar's existence) and love the area surrounding it with plenty of fun things to do. Definitely stop in before or after a visit to the museum of the moving image or a show at the movie theatre around the corner! You can also just entertain yourselves there on a Wednesday night at 8 PM for Trivia, Thursday night at 8 PM for Bingo, or Thursday night at 11 PM for Karaoke (all free!) The food is far better than you'd expect by just walking into a bar known for their constantly rotating (and delicious) beer selection. Their classic standouts are the spicy rubbed (and sauced) wings and their selection of quesadillas. The top sandwiches? The epic "steel city" brisket sandwich (bring a friend to split it with!), the "old-fashioned" fried chicken sandwich (complete with mashed potatoes and gravy on a biscuit!), and one of the best Cuban sandwiches you'll find in Queens! As for veggie fare, the vegetarian chili and nachos are to DIE for, along with the spicy southern-style salad and the beet salad! Bring a growler to stock up on a rare or seasonal beer or two to bring back home, or just make your way down the line of a super-eclectic beer selection! How do I know the staff is friendly? I have been known to work here from time to time, so feel free to name drop 👍🏻😎🍻 @chelsbarks for all the happy things! This is my first google review!
BEST food BEST service BEST beer selection cannot recommend this place enough!!! do yourself a favor and go here!!!! Cat, Chris, and Juan are AMAZING ❤️
Cris and his whole staff will make you feel more comfortable and welcome than grandma ! Smiles are all around , ever heard the show "Cheers"? , yes is that type of place ! PS. Great seasonal beer menu.
Great bar and the very best burgers in Astoria.
We order from.here with my gf, and the amount of beef we got for 15 dollars is crazy, Quesadilla full of beef really nice and tasty, the steet corn is amazing, super recommended
The smartest and safest COVID seating I’ve seen in Astoria. Each table is its own igloo, complete with an individual heater. The food is delicious, the beer selection is on point, and the staff are delightful. Highly recommend.
Great place! The barman is excellent, and the beers taste very well. It was quiet when we visited, but I imagine the place being packed on other evenings.
Awesome place to go and have a beer. It was nice and quiet when we went (which is what I wanted). Great selection of beers and the bartender was delightful!
One of my go to haunts in Astoria. Reliable craft beer line up. Very warm and hospitable staff. I don't get to come by for a pint often but I am ALWAYS happy when I do.
Good beers and good food. The bartender and owner are so sweet and have an amazing customer service. Stop by for a drink or dinner you will not be disappointed!!!!
I've lived in the area all my life to be honest I work for the building where Sunswick is located, so I've seen everything come and go and Sunswick for the past 10+ years have been here. Don't listen to negative reviews, the place is here for a reason and just opened a cafe next-door if your from Astoria and haven't been here for trivia night or enjoyed the amazing food cooked by very experienced cooks who've been here since open then you are not from Astoria. Beer is great cocktails are even better. Hell you see me there tell me I'll buy you a shot if it's your first time there and you find me there. Brunch lunch dinner midnight snack, you can't go wrong. So listen to Astoria native, not from people who aren't even from the area. SUNSWICK IS A WIN ALWAYS from the Moscow mule to the wings, or the amazingly large steel city sandwich. Enjoy good luck, God bless and if you haven't had Swick yet your not doing something right
This place rocks. Great service, great people. Amazing atmosphere. Fantastic food, and a wide variety of drinks to pair.
Great place to chill with friends and have a good conversation over drinks. Friendly staff and good beer selection. TVs for sports or the most random movies. Just a great, inexpensive place to unwind.
Chill fun bar with great bartenders :) love karaoke thursdays
My second home! Lol Chris and Juan are so amazing! This place makes me happy! Hahaha.
Great spot for rotating beer list, serve food late. Have a karaoke night and trivia night. Very dark and kitschy but hey, the beer is solid and that's my jam
Great beer selection and good music playing. Friendly bartenders. There are many choices on tap for a bar this size, and they are good quality beers. There is also a large cooler with dozens of cans to choose from. Overall an excellent beer bar. The food is also very good. I've had the house burger and the pulled pork sandwich. Everyone liked what they ordered. Good spot to go before/after the movies.
Great local spot no frills spot to drink at. Great vibe. Love their outdoor booths. Their food is fresh and delicious. They have a great assortment of draft beers and liquor. I’ve seen them make amazing cocktails. Great music. The volume is perfect where you can hear the music and vibe but still have a conversation. Haha clearly I love this little place
Intimate and cozy atmosphere! They have great local beer varieties on draft and in cans. Food is AMAZING! The bartenders are also super fun, friendly and they always have cool stuff on the tv's like old black and white films, sports etc..Definitely recommend for any occasion!
So we are from out of town and we were chit chatting away with some folks on the subway. We told them we were going to the Museum of the moving image. They said hey while you are there you gotta try Sunswick. So we did and it was incredible! The food is excellent. The shoe string fries are the best ever! Drinks are cold and strong. The menu is American but unique. Tons of beer on tap. I love the old fashioned bar atmosphere.
Was great to check out Sunswick after so many years! I grew up in the area and remember when it first opened apparently 18 years ago 😱 I left NYC in 2012 😐. Beer selection is still amazing, food is absolutely delicious. Service was a little spotty and I wouldn't say friendly or welcoming but it would not stop me from coming back.
We went for drinks but fell in love with the food. The fish tacos were f.. delicious, crispy yet fresh and savory. My husband had the short rib sandwich and it was soooo good. They also have a solid beer selection if you are into that. Also, Helen is absolutely a charmer! Favorite neighborhood bar so far.
Waiter was incredibly helpful and found creative solutions to our groups' dietary restrictions. Food was delicious, service was great and friendly, drinks were really great. They also took COVID precautions very seriously. Definitely recommend for a not crowded night out.
Cool bar, I really enjoyed the food when I got it, but not always an 8/10, sometimes a 6-7/10. Still very good. They have habanero mozzarella sticks, and the bartenders are great
Sunswick is a fantastic establishment and a place that I adore. I am a local Astoria resident and I frequent often with my wife. This time around, I took my brother and we had beers while we caught up about life, work. The bartender joined in and we just talked away. For hours! This is what Sunswick does! It is inviting, charming, and attentive. The food is also delicious, I love it. My waistline may not love it, but my heart doesn't regret it. I think I had the Bavik Pils... cheers!
Top notch. You have to hand it to the men & women running the show here - quality of food & drinks has not suffered; in spite of the pandemic and reduced foot traffic. They have an expansive menu of reasonably priced bar bites & bartenders Bridget & Helen are very sociable; they make you feel like a part of the neighborhood. The drinks are strong & come with added jokes and sarcasm...my kind of joint.
Great beer selection with lots on tap, and the buffalo chicken dip is AMAZING. Events (like trivia and karaoke) during the week keep this small place pretty packed. Don’t expect to be able to get a table with more than 6 people, and even that is pushing it.
Good draft beers and good selection. It has not popular brands with exotic flavors. Food used to be good now only the bar is open (I'm writing this during the pandemic) good place to hang out. Definitely.
Big fan. Always go on Wednesday nights for trivia, and the atmosphere is so chill but very fun, great beer selection, the food's very good, super friendly and helpful staff. Love that I've found this place and it's so close to me! Definitely worth checking out.
If I lived anywhere near this place, it'd be my local bar. This is a shame, as it's fantastic. It's a beer bar that knows its beer without being pretentious. The bartenders are friendly without being overbearing. The food is also killer bee. They make most of it in house, and it definitely tastes like it. I'm glad I have friends in Queens. More excuses to get them to come here.
Great beer selection. I've only been once but looked like they had a setup thanks indicated the rotated the selection frequently. They also let me taste some before committing. If I lived near by, that would be my go to bar.
The bartender did an amazing job assisting us select beers both my boyfriend and I loved. The food we got to accompany our drinks (fried pickles) were the yummiest.
Juan runs an awesome spot with darts, great food and solid TVs for sports. Definitely recommended!
OMG. I would pass by this jewel and never gave it a chance. For some reason, I wanted to go somewhere that was quiet away from the 30th Avenue bustle. Great food, big portions, cozy atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Oh and don't forget to try the Churros desert. It's going to be a regular for me. This is where my son is going to have his first beer in a few months. Hahaha. Thanks for a peaceful evening.
Wonderful spot to grab a bite and a beer. The staff is so welcoming, especially Helen who was the one who served me. She was quick to greet me and assist with any suggestions. The menu is quite expansive for a bar, and they offer a variety of burgers as well as salads if you’re trying to eat lighter. Of course, the beer selection is great as well. They have several on tap as well as a fridge with some bottled and canned choices. I discovered my new favorite cider there and haven’t been able to find it stocked at any other bar! That should say something about their variety above the rest.
Sunswick is a cozy, welcoming spot, and I’m glad it’s still going strong. The food is always prepared with care, offering flavors that hit the mark every time. Their menu has plenty of options at prices that won’t break the bank. My personal favorites are the loaded nachos, wings, and burgers—they give you generous portions, so you’ll likely have leftovers to take home. The bar is worth checking out, especially if you’re into craft beer. Sunswick was one of the first places to showcase local breweries on tap, and they’ve stayed true to that mission. It’s the perfect spot to sample a variety of craft beers. The staff, food, and drinks never disappoint—this place is a must-visit!
Nice bar with good craft beer on tap and cans. The have a good bar menu.
This is my new local. I moved here from Bushwick in the spring and am confident that Juan is the nicest bartender in queens and runs a very professional establishment. 😌
100+ beers, big late night food menu, outdoor seating, very casual neighborhood vibe - what’s not to love?
Came here yesterday for lunch while visiting the Museum of the Moving Image. The food was delicious and the bartender was incredibly friendly! Definitely worth eating here if you ever happen to be nearby!
Nice place. A couple of TVs. Nice atmosphere. Good fish and chips and burger. Fries were unfortunately just run if the mill rather than freshly cut. Stret corn was very good, spicy but not overpowered. Very good selection of beer on tap.
Place is the BEST place to order from online. Best bar food I've had, chef back there must be talented. Ridiculous menu and everything hits.
I love Sunswick! They have a super cozy atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable bartenders, fun karaoke nights, and the best spinach and artichoke dip I've ever had! I also love the tings de pollo quesadillas. Go support this great local business in Astoria!
This is my local. Usually grab a couple beers and maybe some food on my day off. Great early afternoon spot. Great bartenders, too.
A gem! Juan, the owner is great people, Savanah the bartender is so sweet, the food is delicious, the best chicken chilaquiles I've ever had, the smoked Salmon Benedict- yum!, beers were delicious and great variety. Cool place to grab some food and drink with friends and family and/or a coffee and smoothies right next door! Love this place 💕 didn't take an photos to upload, was too in the moment 🥰
Great selection of beers on the rotating taps 👌🏽. Also, a good selection of beers/ciders/etc. (bottles & cans) in the refrigerator. The seating inside isn't exactly 'huge', but there is also outdoor seating on the sidewalk.
A good bar should feel like a good pair of shoes, comfortable from the beginning. That's the way the crowd and amazing bartender Helen made me feel from the moment I walked in. Work takes me all over the place and I look forward to when I actually do have a free hour. Had so much fun in the one hour I got to be here and I pray I'm around here again for another hour. The chicken fingers I ordered were also divine 👼🏽 and super crispy. I would stop by just to enjoy a good well timed joke from the Amazing bartender Helen. 💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great atmosphere and friendly bar tenders. The nachos are huge so be prepared to share among a few people. Vegetarian tacos were also really tasty and filled with nice veggies. They also have a huge selection of beers on tap and in cans. Their outdoor seating is privately enclosed and intimate. I’ve been coming here for a few years now and I don’t plan on stopping. Definitely would recommend swinging by if you’re headed to or from the Regal movie theater around the corner or MoMI.
Swung by for a flight of beer. Staff was friendly. Appreciated the flight numbers written in satisfyingly large chalk lettering, and the fairly wide selection listed on the large monitors. I'd prefer to see sour options and the selection listed on Untappd, which makes this a 4.5 stars from me that I'll round up to 5.
Food here is decent, bartender is nice. It's a small place inside though. You'd feel a little cramped (or cozy depending on how you see it).
Pretty nice place. Stopped in with some friends to have a drink, it was really crowded & after 2 drinks we left because we were getting squashed but I will try it again on a less busy night.
I've been going for weeks to play trivia on Wednesday nights and the service has always been great. But I was dismayed when the bill can and there was a 2% fee to pay work a credit card. Very uncool. Will definitely limit how much I will order from here on out.
Good and extensive taplist which is helpfully on digitalpour. The taplist on the screen above the bar scrolls a bit fast unless you are looking for something specific. The fish component of the fish and chips were a bit sad and soggy as if they had not been fried in hot enough oil or properly drained. The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
Bar food and a rotating list of craft beers. They often have some pretty exciting things on tap. Food won't blow you away but it's hearty and tasty. Interior is a cleaned up classic new york irish pub. Not divey at all. Bar stools at the windows and a few flat screens playing sports if they're on. The volume is usually turned off so it's not too much of a bother if that's not your sort of thing. Wednesday Trivia nights are competitive and a lot of fun.
Cool, comfortable bar in Astoria with pretty good bar food. Drinks are reasonably priced, and they have a great selection of beers that is on constant rotation. Tuesdays they feature trivia.
Amazing fun employees, good selection on food I suggest the grilled cheese and French onion soup most delicious! Or if you just want drinks a great place to drink and hang out
Great beer selection, friendly and knowledgable staff and roomy (except the men's room). Check the size of the glass before you declare their beers a good price.
Great local craft beer spot in Astoria. Constant rotating tap list with above average pub fare. Can't go wrong and highly i recommend.
One of the first places I reviewed on ratebeer.com. I had a good time tonight. Sunswick has great selection and I had a variety of beers. I did not eat any of the food. The atmosphere was nice. Enough tables so as not to be crowded but small enough to have a nice, communal environment. My only complaint is that the bartender would not serve me in 1/2 pints. I wanted to sample more beers rather than pounding pints. I know they had 1/2 pints because I saw him serve it to another customer. That courtesy was not extended to me and I remain a bit bitter. But overall a positive experience.
If you love beer, you have to make your way out to this spot. The list of beer is ever changing and very long. The vibe is trendy warehouse. Pretty large crowd on the weekends, good taste in music. The food is pretty yummy too. Love coming here and looking forward to my next visit.
Nice beer selection, heavy on Belgian selections & micro/craft beers, surprisingly not so many from Queens. Food menu is a bit different for a brewpub, but quite good. Definitely worth checking out. Service is good & informative.
I went here on the last day of Belgian fest with my wife and a couple that we are friends with. They had a very good selection of Belgian beers on tap, which is awesome. And I love Belgian beers. But my wife had the "worst mozzarella sticks" of her life, which pushes this place down to a 4 star rating instead of a 5.
Do you love beer? Do you love 80s rock? Do you love buffalo chicken tenders? If you said "Oh hell yeah" to at least one of the three, then Sunswick is the bar for you! This spot is located a block or two away from the Museum of the Moving Image, Sac's Place, Tacuba, and Kaufman Studios. If you have been to any of the aforementioned spots and said to yourself, "Self, I don't want my night to end just yet but I also don't want to walk too far", then Sunswick is the local bar oasis you're looking for. Super casual and laid back. Enjoy!
DELIVERY REVIEW -- I would honestly give this place more like a 3.5 since some things have been amazing like their chicken quesadilla that has a nice crispy tortilla and their breakfast burrito, but then there has been a really bad miss with their Mexican cactus salad (so soggy and bland). Since that's out of the way, I will say, this is the second or third time I've gotten their quesadilla and it's been ON POINT every time. The chicken and peppers inside are flavorful, the salsa they give with it is delicious, and their guac has actual chunks of avocado in it unlike other places that most likely just got store bought guac. Honestly one of my favorite places for a quesadilla. It is always still warm when I get it too and the top is still crispy. I've also been a fan of their boneless chicken wings and my fiancé is the breakfast burrito fan. So honestly, really good place for more standard bar food, just don't order a salad from here. 😂
Great beer selection, lousy food. They show the Steelers games on Sunday. This place is not cheap. Usually at least $7/pint but they are 20 oz pints.
Loved the idea of what they're doing. Chicken wings weren't fresh. But, expecting fresh food in the apocalypse is too much? I'd go back and get something different.
The must be a better bar near this location, but there's just not. Bartenders are always great, but the taps are always dirty or something? Beer usually comes flat or blech or something. I guess I should just order Cosmoz when I go here.
I’ve gone for trivia nights here.. The food is overpriced, taste is pretty basic; not bad but not great. The speaker volume the trivia host talks on is always WAY too loud. The bartender is a bit grumpy and doesn’t seem to enjoy his job. I think they would benefit from an online ordering function and 2 more staff members bc they struggle to serve everyone during trivia night.
Food: Ordered the smash burger - tasty, but the bread bun used was breaking apart. Decent fries. Service: One bartender doing it all. Atmosphere: Fun spot to hang.
The only bar I can get the beer I like. The first time I went I had an awesome short rib sandwich. The second time there was a chunk of chewy white fat an inch thick on my sandwich. The third time there was a soft goopy layer of fat on top of it. I already had a lot to put up with since on all occasions my order was wrong (i.e forgotten food or wrong food). I tried one last time ordering through seamless, they forgot to cook a sandwich and I had to wait for them to cook the second, so the first got cold. It also was an inedible mess. Perhaps I was drunk the first time and I thought they made me a good sandwich. Also, their burger and brisket is just bad. Their game nights and themed menus are fun but now I never go.
Went here roughly around 10pm on a friday night. There was a decent amont of customers but no problem getting a table but it appeared to be only one server and one bartender in the entire restaurant. Really shocked how low staffed they are on a friday night. The food was also not very satisfying. I ordered the cheeseburger sliders which had kind of dry patties and ok buns and the fries were cut too thin and more crunchy like chips than fries. Could not get myself to finish the food and i'm the type to eat everything off my plate when i eat out.
I went in to get fried pickles on a whim during a walk in between meetings, didn’t have my wallet but knew they had Apple Pay. I wanted to be sure so I asked the bartender, she rolled her eyes, like super exaggerated, and said yes. When she took my phone to go tap it on the other side of the bar she then started a loud conversation with the only other person in the bar about “it’s so ridiculous that no one carries cash nowadays” and this guy actually joined in on the hate LOL She then ignored me and kept talking about “this generation” and how we’ll “pay the price” if we ever get mugged… like this interaction felt like a sitcom scenario she was so weird and rude LOL The fried pickles were fine, but I don’t get the deal over the Apple Pay sorry… also this happened a while ago but I keep remembering it and telling friends and they all agree that that was weird and lowkey rude so
i have been to lots of pubs and bars that serve variety of draft beers but this one is not a good choice if you are a beer fan. but good food, nice atmosphere.
The waitress is dumb as a brick. Served up the order of sliders I ordered to another table even after being asked why they were getting “extra” sliders. I walked away after that show of extra stupidity!
Place is trash and the cups were dirty
This used to be a great place. I guess they've fallen victim to the economy. They had 6 taps offline, and the beer I ordered tapped out before the bartender could pour it. Most of their beers are served in tiny glasses. Their once fantastic shoestring fries have deteriorated to just the scrapings from the potatoes they used for the large fries. I hope they can rebound.
This place is trash. Messes up my order consistently and takes forever to serve you. In today's events my friend with the dairy allergy ordered a burrito with no cheese, they put cheese on it and tried to convince him that it wasn't cheese which could cause him an allergic reaction. It took us 40 minutes total to get the wrong order and leave hungry. The coffee isn't even fresh...I mean c'mon
In case you don’t want to read the rest of the review, in short: MY EXPERIENCE WAS HORRIBLE. This was mainly due to the poor service. I went in on a Sunday afternoon. There were maybe a grand total of six customers asides from myself and my girlfriend. We sit down on the corner of the bar and we’re not even greeted. Granted, I don’t really care for a kind server. I understand how the job is. But it’s 1 o clock in the afternoon, the sun is out and we were the only people at the bar, you can’t even give me a head nod to a knowledge I’m there? No physical menu, I had to scan a QR code. Which is is cool… but it’s a bar… and the menu did not feature any of there beers on tap. Maybe it was on another menu? But who knows, this bartender/ server was incompetent. He gave us and mainly my girlfriend; a terrible attitude. He kept asking us to repeat our order at least three times, and still forgot and gave us an incomplete order. We didn’t not reciprocate the same energy. We were mild mannered, my girlfriend grew displeased. His pour was terrible. The food is getting three stars because the wings were actually tasty and also for the love of I have of Sunswick from my younger days. The bartender or whatever you want to call him. Extremely disrespectful towards my girlfriend. I had spoken so highly of the place and they treated her like absolute garbage. From the looks to the tone of voice.
We went on a Friday at 6 pm and there were 2 children (maybe between 5-7 years old) sitting at the bar, then running around and knocking over chairs. Not the vibe we were expecting. Beers are more expensive than lots of other places in the area as well.
Had to call the bank because there was a hold on my card. Took me a while to get it sorted out. Came back tonight after 2 months and was told I could not be served anymore because of it. Even though I paid my tab in full that night.
