Great food! Excellent brisket. Special thanks to the Grill-master Ismael and Hido :)
A quiet place with delicious food. Even though it was late, parking was not very convenient. I recommend the brisket menu.
I ordered take out catering for 30 people for a meeting at our church. Jacob was helpful in deciding the choices for meat, sides and desserts. They had everything ready when I arrived, separated by hot things and cold things, and carried it out to my car. Everything was delicious! Thank you so much Jacob and team!
I was in town on business and this was my first trip to Texas. I was told to visit Black's for my first taste of Texas BBQ. I tried the beef rib and brisket and it was awesome. The beef rib just melts in your mouth. I also had Mac & cheese and green beans and they were delicious as well. The staff was great and really took care of me after hearing I was a first timer. Overall it was a great experience and I will visit again when I come back to Austin!
Amazing barbecue with fantastic sides and dessert. The fatty brisket had amazing texture and flavor. The Mac n cheese was just fantastic. The peach cobbler was such a satisfying way to end the meal. The ribs were tender and flavorful. The beef rib was incredible. Also, way less touristy, so not too much of a line. All in all, highly recommended barbecue.
Asked around for the best bbq in Austin and was told to come here. Black's did not disappoint. Everything was so good. My husband and I ordered the chopped beef sandwich. He had the mac and cheese- I ordered the green beans and an extra side of what I thought was baked beans but was actually pinto beans. Service was great, work station and dining area were very clean. Will definitely come back next time we're in Austin.
I had the chance to stop by Black’s Barbecue, and it absolutely lived up to the Texas BBQ reputation. The smell alone when you walk in is enough to get your mouth watering. The place has a classic, no frills Texas BBQ vibe nothing fancy, just good food and Southern charm. I tried the brisket and ribs, and both were incredible. The brisket was juicy with that perfect smoky bark, and the ribs were fall off the bone tender with just the right amount of seasoning. The sides were just as impressive mac and cheese, baked beans, and some sweet, buttery cornbread that tied everything together. Portion sizes were generous, and everything came out hot and fresh.
Delicious! Great location. I have only ever been to the original Black’s in Lockhart so this location is a dream come true having it in Austin! Amazing, delicious tasty brisket. The chopped brisket is my favorite be it has the BBQ sauce already in it. You can always top your sandwich with onions and more sauce like I do. Tried the garlic green beans and they were absolutely wonderful! Didn’t taste healthy at all ;) great atmosphere love this place! The Mac-n-cheese was really good too. My sister and I shared our sides and it was plenty of good! 😊Employees were friendly and patient and kind. Good vibes to hear Johnny Cash on the speakers. Fun location near campus as well. Thank you for delicious food and lasting good memories!
Delicious and mouthwatering bbq beef ribs and fatty brisket. Can’t recommend the beef ribs enough, it’s the best I’ve had. Loved their sides as well. Thank you Leonardo for the excellent service. All staff members were super friendly and were so helpful sharing about the process of the smoking of brisket. I’ve had brisket at many joints but this place had really fresh, moist and juicy ribs. Loved my experience! I also really appreciated the more calm atmosphere, music was at the perfect volume and plenty of room to sit down and hangout. It’s super bright inside with the natural light. Felt very welcoming and a true Texan experience.
Beef rib, perfect, great mix of fall off the bone but still had some good bite from the bark. Potato salad had a good texture and was probably cold, solid but nothing mind blowing.
Stopped in when Visiting the Capital and I must say Black's Barbecue more then met my expectations, if anything they exceeded it. The beef Ribs were Massive with great taste and fall off the bone texture. As far as pricing goes I found that while a little on the pricey side it's not outside what you'd expect for good barbecue, so with that in mind it's definitely worth the price. The desserts were delicious, the sweet tea was superb. Next time I'm in Austin I'll be back to try the other menu items. Travelers tip/heads up* Parking is VERY limited and is found in the alley behind the Restaurant or the parking lot caddy corner across the street to the rear. Again parking very limited so keep that in mind around meal times.
We have eaten here several times and do enjoy the food but this time was not as enjoyable. Being upfront: i do not mind if wmplyees use their phones when a place is slow and everything else is done. Rhat being siad. It was slow and thw employees were so engrossed in whatever was on their phone that it impacted the level of customer service given. They were also less than courteous from the beginning and acted like they would rather be anywhere else. We felt like we were an imposition. Also, we asked for lean meat. The Pic will show what we got. I questioned the cut and was told that it is lean. I have never had this issue before here or anywhere. We will return in future wuth the hope that this was a random bad day but if it becomes their norm then they end up on our list of places we dont spend money at.
Blacks is one of the oldest and best BBQ smoke houses around! Locally established in Lockhart TX. Everything they serve is tantalizing and invigorates the taste buds. All of their cuts of meat are excellent both in quality and flavor and the sides offered compliment whatever your main course and choice of protein might be. No matter what you order here you really can't go wrong. Blacks will not disappoint and the team took great care of me and made me feel warm n welcomed! C U AGAIN REAL SOON!
Finally tried Blacks BBQ and here is the honest take. The sides were low key the stars of the plate. The mac and cheese was creamy, warm, and actually seasoned, and the green beans had real flavor instead of tasting like they came straight from a can. After that, the sliced turkey surprised me in a good way. It was juicy, tender, and probably the most balanced meat I tried. The brisket was just okay. It was not bad, but it also was not the life changing Texas barbecue moment people hype up. It felt a little average, maybe because I stopped by on a Monday evening and not during peak hours. Still decent, just nothing I would go out of my way for. The sausage was easily my least favorite. It looked shriveled, tasted dry, and did not have the snap or juiciness you expect from good barbecue sausage, so that was a miss for me. Parking was manageable since I found a spot across the street, but I can see it becoming a headache when the place is busy. The staff was friendly and gave helpful recommendations, which I appreciated as a first timer. Seating inside is limited, but there is a patio for extra space. Overall vibe was calm and not crowded on a Monday night. I would come back for the sides and turkey, but probably skip the sausage and hope the brisket hits better on a weekend visit.
Order was 1 pulled pork sandwich, 1 lean brisket sandwich 1/3 lean brisket, 1 ring of original sausage and 1 order each of Mac and cheese, potato salad and beans. Brisket was out in the cutting board so with a slow crowd it had been there and was barely warm. Mac and cheese needed some salt. Everything else was ok.
During our visit to Austin, several people recommended Black’s BBQ. My husband, who usually loves all BBQ, didn’t finish his ribs, saying they tasted off and the sauce lacked the sweet/spicy balance he prefers. The BBQ chicken also had a strange flavor, and even adding extra sauce didn’t help much. I did enjoy the beef ribs, but overall, it wasn’t a great experience. We likely won’t be returning.
I ate the brisket, macaroni & cheese, peach cobbler and one beef rib. The food was delicious. The customer service was very melancholy and uninviting. This was different because their location in Austin, closer to downtown, has a lively, energetic and welcoming feel to it. I enjoyed the food but would opt for the other location simply for the vibe.
We visited Original Black’s BBQ and sat on the patio, which was quiet and mostly empty — a nice change from the usual crowd. The pork spare ribs were decent, but overall, the BBQ didn’t quite live up to the hype. The sausage had an overly crispy casing that made it tough and a bit off-putting. The street corn was okay, but nothing to rave about. Parking can be tricky since the few spots out front are usually taken, so you’ll likely need to find street parking. It’s worth checking out if you’re nearby, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
I’ll keep it simple. Food needs seasoning. I came on a slow Wednesday night. I got the fatty brisket and fat was there but lacked flavor. Potato salad & beans bland. Disappointed, I had high expectations. Service and atmosphere are okay.
It just wasn't the food experience we expected from the hype and history. The place and people were really nice and clean. There just wasn't smoke flavor on the meats. The ribs had zero bark, but were the "best" meat we tried. We had to use a knife on the brisket😬 and I'm pretty sure they forgot to season it, especially salt. The sausage was juicy, but very crumbly. The sides were good and honestly, the mac n cheese had more smoke flavor than the meats😅. $55 later, it's not for us, but we tried it.
Very dry and crispy brisket. I think they added oil to try to make it look moist. Brisket totally sucked! Turkey was also super dry and VERY SALTY! even the sauce didn’t disguise the saltiness. So disappointed to be traveling out of town and be this disappointed. The sides were also not great. The buns were not good either. Spent 50$ and we didn’t even finish our meals. 😩 So sad.
