Five Spice Chicken thigh and egg roll vermicelli bowl deserves an award!
We love to have Vietnamese food and especially pho during the cold weather. The lemongrass and other spices really does wonders for your sinuses. This restaurant is very beautifully decorated with lots of natural plants and sunflower wall art that create a welcoming and serene environment for dining here. The tofu vermicelli bowl was deliciously spicy with the tofu fried in chilli garlic oil and chicken pho broth was flavorful. The staff and our server were courteous and attentive.
Great Vietnamese restaurant with a variety of authentic Vietnamese food! Sunflower Cuisine is regularly packed with customers. They have an array of authentic Vietnamese food to choose from and never disappoints. I’ve had the Bo Ne (Steak and Eggs), Lemongrass Beef, and Five Spice Grilled Chicken Lunch Special here. All delicious! Friendly staff and great customer service. Definitely recommend!
I love the beef vermicelli bowl so much. I already know i want that to be my birthday lunch next year. Its so damn delicious. The ambiance is fantastic. I love all the pothos plants in there. I do wish they sold some clippings. I also get the spring roll with shrimp only and it was so so good. This is my favorite spot. I have ordered from doordash before and the quality is still fantastic.
I would describe this restaurant as more of a fusion-style Vietnamese spot rather than strictly authentic. It’s located in a corner of a strip mall with ample parking. The restaurant feels fresh and modern, with pleasant decor and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff are helpful and courteous, adding to the overall positive experience. If you’re looking for Vietnamese dishes with a light, flavorful twist—what I call “fusion”—this is the right place. Standout dishes include the sunflower crepe, sunflower prawns (my personal favorite), shaken beef, and steamed sea bass. Interestingly, the food seems to taste noticeably better on Thursdays and Fridays, which may be related to the kitchen staff schedule. Bon appétit!
Our real estate brokerage team came here for lunch and we couldn’t have been happier! Even though it was busy, the staff handled everything so smoothly and our food came out fresh, fast, and delicious. Everyone ordered something different, and every single person left satisfied! The atmosphere is what really stood out , tons of natural light, beautiful indoor plants, and a vibe that feels bright and welcoming (definitely not one of those dark, gloomy spots) perfect for lunches, brunches etc Service + food + atmosphere = 10/10. Can’t wait to come back with my family next time 👌🏾👌🏾
Sunflower is one of the few Vietnamese restaurants in Austin that carries my favorite dish, Chao Tôm. In fact, I don’t know any other Vietnamese restaurants that have it. If anybody else knows of any, please send me a message! It is ground shrimp wrapped around sugar cane and they bring it to your table on a plate with a lot of vegetables, including lettuce and mint and noodles. They have the wrappers made of rice paper in a container with water, and you dip them into the water for several seconds to get them soft, and then you put the shrimp, the noodles, and a bunch of the vegetables on it, and then roll it up. I’ve taken some videos of this, but they are not very good. Rolling them up is a little tricky because by this point, the wrapper is very sticky and it’ll stick to anything. The plate, your hands, itself, napkins, anything. I’ve gotten better at it over the years, but at this point, I’m still just barely adequate. I get this every single time I come here and a lot of the times I come here, it’s just for this. It’s a little bit hard to find on the menu because it is under the appetizers, but if you scan the appetizers closely, you will see it as a subheading of another appetizer. I had it at other places in San Francisco, which has a much larger Vietnamese population, and it was may be a little bit better, but this one is still excellent. I think I prefer when it’s grilled a little bit more, some of the places in San Francisco grill it until it’s actually Slightly brown on the outside. Everything else here I’ve tried has been really good. I usually get the spring rolls as an appetizer although it seems a little redundant to get spring rolls, which are almost the same thing as the Chao Tôm. But I like them so….
We were the first customers of the day. Staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful with food suggestions. The menu is large with a lot more options than your average Vietnamese. We had Beef Pho, Chilean Sea Bass and a Shrimp Firecracker appetizer. Everything was absolutely delicious! Can't wait to come back and try some more traditional Vietnamese dishes.
Absolutely wonderful. I'm basically a regular now. This place knows how to make perfect meat and that really makes them stand out. They have amazing customer service, I bet they are an amazing resturant to dine-in at too. They don't ignore special requests. I've gotten this place multiple times and they always go above and beyond. I'm often scared to try new things because I'm picky - but I tried something new here and loved it. The Shaken Beef comes with salt+pepper, but I didn't even need it because the sauce was so flavorful. I'm not sure what the people on Yelp were talking about, or maybe they've tweaked the sauce a bit since then but it is absolutely flavorful and amazing. Some people like fatty meat - I don't. And I requested to have the least amount of fatty meat as possible and you can tell they tried their best, and succeeded! I didn't have any fatty meat and the texture/flavor of all the meats were perfect. So above and beyond to make sure the customer loves their food and I appreciate it so much! This is a great place to try new things, because they're very high quality and willing to accommodate you. They also have great peanut sauce. They have amazing flavor, texture, portions, service, and they really care about keeping customers. What more could you ask for?! ❤️ Hopefully they don't secretly hate me for being so picky... I wouldn't blame them 😅
There used to be Vietnamese restaurant called Sunflower on 183 & Payton Gin shopping center, next to Target. I used to go with my sister 20 yrs ago, then they closed for many years. This year I discovered this restaurant with same name. Turns out the kids of the original owner opened a new restaurant with the same name. That’s amazing!!! It’s so spacious and much more modern than the original. My sister was visiting, and I took her. She was so happy! Of course she ordered the Sunflower Crepes (which she loves). They have never been my cup of tea - so I wasn’t interested in sharing. I got the Shaken Beef, It’s so good. If you get it, you need to mix the lemon with salt and dip the beef in. My sis got upset I didn’t share and made a face at me. I didn’t care 🤪 I also recommend fried rice and Calamari Salt & Pepper. Oh and my daughter always gets the spring rolls. It’s really good Vietnamese restaurant.
Sunflower Vietnamese Restaurant on McNeil in Austin, Texas, is a true culinary gem that exceeded all my expectations! 🌼 From the moment we walked in, the inviting atmosphere set the perfect tone for our meal. The menu is filled with authentic Vietnamese dishes that made it hard to choose, but we finally settled on a few delicious options. Every item we ordered showcased the great quality of the ingredients and the craftsmanship of the chefs. The moment we took our first bite of the Wong Tom bombs, we knew we were in for a treat! 🍤✨ The food quality was fantastic, and each dish was bursting with flavor. The shrimp and crab fried rice was a standout; it was perfectly seasoned with generous portions of shrimp and succulent crab, creating a harmonious blend of taste. The shrimp vermicelli was equally impressive, featuring fresh vegetables and aromatic herbs that made each bite refreshing and delicious. Not to mention, the beef stir noodles were cooked to perfection, with tender beef and a savory sauce that left us wanting more. Every course, from appetizers to entrées, was amazing and definitely worth the visit! 🍜🥢 To top it all off, the customer service at Sunflower was exceptional. The staff was incredibly fast, friendly, and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of perfect. They provided helpful recommendations and made us feel right at home. The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere. If you’re in Austin and craving authentic Vietnamese cuisine, look no further than Sunflower! It's a five-star experience I can’t wait to enjoy again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We’ve always said Austin has some good pho and Sunflower makes no exception. Located at the end of a shopping area, Sunflower is a bit unassuming. There’s good parking outside and the inside is simple and down to Earth. It’s a clean place with good service, very ideal for a quick pop in lunch, which is what we did. We only ordered the beef pho but they have a wide array of things on the menu like stir fried noodles and fried rice. The beef pho was delicious with the signature clean tasting broth. Their broth here isn’t as anise forward as many other places, which is actually nice because it feels clean and doesn’t give the after taste that star anise can sometimes leave. The beef was tender and flavorful and the noodles had the perfect texture to them. This is probably in the top 3 of pho places we’ve had in Austin so far and we’re pretty confident you’ll feel the same way when you go and give them a shot!
Event Vietnamese place to try for vegetarians. Fresh rolls were and egg roll were decent. But the peanut sauce was spicy. Thai iced tea was a bit too strong in tea flavor but they gave spare half and half to balance it out. The Jasmine tea has really strong jasmine flavor Lemongrass tofu and noodles were good and so were egg noodles. Overall not a bad place to visit if you want to try Vietnamese food
This has become my go-to spot for pho! The food is consistently good, and I especially enjoy the beef pho (7/10) paired with a Thai iced tea. On this visit, I tried the lychee iced tea and it was refreshing and flavorful. My friend got the lemon grass stir fry vermicelli (7/10). The service can run a little slow at times, but overall it’s a solid experience. The menu also offers a wide variety of options, which makes it easy to come back and try something new each time. Definitely a reliable spot when you’re craving pho.
I would strongly advise against ordering from this restaurant on DoorDash. I paid $16 for a beef pho that was comparable in size to a kids’ meal. The portion looked nothing like the photos advertised. There were very few noodles and only three small slices of beef. When I opened the container, I felt completely misled. For the price charged, the portion size felt like a scam. It’s hard to believe they aren’t aware of how small these servings are compared to what’s advertised. Extremely disappointing experience.
Went to this location and was impressed with the food. The younger server who has piercings and acne scars put gratuity on our two top, and didn’t remove it when it was mentioned. I emailed the business to no response either. Be careful as they will attempt to scam you I guess. How disappointing.
This is my second time dining here, and once again, everything was delicious! I had the Bò Né and the Vietnamese vanilla flan for dessert, both were spot on. And I loved how the flan was smooth and creamy but just a bit sweet to my taste, still delicious tho. Last time, I tried the bánh xèo and it was amazing too, crispy, flavorful, and packed with fillings. The staff is always friendly and helpful, making the experience even better. As a Viet, I truly appreciate the authenticity here and definitely recommend this spot to anyone craving real Vietnamese comfort food! Definitely will be back soon :) Update: I used to recommend this place to everyone and after this visit today, i won’t be coming back. Took a long time to take order. And ppl came after got service before us. No offer water or anything while we waiting until i asked. Bad customer service. It’s so sad that I actually enjoyed and loved their food.
