It's a little hard to access and park my giant van there, but otherwise this is one of the best Thunderclouds in town. Only rivaled by the Lakeline location because they have a sandwich savant there

This is my favorite Thundercloud location. Compared to other locations, the sandwiches are mostly consistent in quality and the sandwich makers are much more personable and not quite as, uh, spaced out.

Great sandwiches, made to your exact specification with the ambience of an original Austin Thundercloud. Getting in and out of the parking lot from 620 or 2222 can be a tad messy.

Great subs for a quick meal on your way to or from the lake. The New York Italian, Veggie Delite, clubs, and Turkish Delite are all good, and the wheat bread is too.

Love their Veggie sandwiches. Best place to have a fresh sandwich. I did not like their Nada Chicken sandwich though. But what ever is served there is fresh and tasty. You should also try their soups. One of the best soups. Love eating there.

I love this place! It was the original sub shop in the area 14 years ago. It's so fresh and good every time. The soup is also good for being a sub shop. The people are all really nice, parking is tricky at times, but it's a nice reminder of the lake area back in the day.

I love this place! No waiting, and you direct the assembly of your sandwich while it’s being done. There are endless options for meats, and all sorts of lettuce and trimmings. Servers are expert and super quick. Prices are very reasonable, too.

This place was busy, it usually is. But the staff works with efficiency and is very fast at processing your orders. The meal was delicious and so bulky(the meats and other ingredients) it had everything you ever dreamed and wanted in a sub.

This place may not look like much on the outside but the inside was very clean. The staff was very kind and attentive to your order making it exactly how you request it. As basic as it is you just can't beat it! Love seeing these places still around after all these years!

I’ve been going to thunderclouds for decades, and this is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. It has a very nice outdoor deck in the back and the inside area has a lot of seating. The restaurant is right near 2222 and 620 by the 711. Thunderclouds subs are great, my only complaint is that a long time ago, maybe 15 or 20 years ago, even, they used to have a seafood salad sub that was fantastic. Then some of the stores stopped carrying it, and now it seems like none of them carry it. They should bring it back.

I’m probably what most people would call a “regular” at Thundercloud. I enjoy the food and its healthy. My favorite store is the Thundercloud on the corner of Ranch Road 620 and 2222. There’s one particular employee that shines amongst all of them and her name is Juanita. If you run into her and ask her how she’s doing she will always tell you she’s doing fantastic. If you get a chance to talk to her you will see her attitude is always consistently positive and this rubs off on others. She happens to know my sandwich by heart which is nice but she doesn’t just throw the ingredients together. She takes enough time to make it look and taste delicious. I own a business myself that deals with the public and I can tell you it’s employees like Juanita that really make the business successful and create an incredible customer experience which makes us want to come back. I would love to steal her from my business😂. Highly recommend.

New favorite Thundercloud in ATX... & be sure to place your order in advance, too (I ordered online which is a lot easier than phone especially with multiple toppings, sandwiches, group orders etc.) and you will have the best experience, because this place is popular and quick to dip off to for a meal. If you want to be able to come and go even more easily, this is the most convenient route. The staff are super friendly and made me laugh after a long day. Thanks, T-Cloud! We'll be back soon.

Great sandwiches and quick in and out. Their parking is pretty rough but they don't have much space to work with and the neighboring businesses cause a mess out front.

Thundercloud is always good. They're wheat bread is really good and goes great with the meatball sub. My son is addicted to the Club sandwich. They don't look the cleanest (some of the locations are old and not updated with worn out tile and wood and they hire very eclectic people) but if you pay attention to how they work they're always wearing gloves and separate the money handling from the food preparation. I love the staff. They always seem to have character instead of a cookie cutter approach. The food always seems fresh and everything is made in front of you just the way you order it.

Other locations had a better sandwich I'll head to town or bee caves next time got a veggie sandwich all bread not much on it

Ehh. Subs are small not much meat. Tasted ok. You will wait a while if there's anyone in front of you - didn't have the efficiency of a chain joint.

There may be some quality control issues with this meal. Latest meal both girlfriend and I got our favorite Office Hero. Order received via Door Dash and arrived quickly. Unfortunately the bread was tough and rubbery, the egg salad was kind of dry and chunky and lacking much flavor. Felt like mostly chopped hard boiled eggs without much sauce, seasoning, or mixing. Did they change the recipe for some reason? The sodas were also flat. Potato salad and soup were still good. They also switched to Zapps chips, which I guess is fine but I preferred the Miss Vickie's (personal preference I know). Just felt a bit sad, I'd been craving Thundercloud for a while and this has me hesitant of ordering again soon.

It's ok. Convenient, better than subway, faster than Jason's. Mild Austin weird vibe, iconic Austin shop. Food is good, just not good to inspire you to go out of your way for it.

Sandwiches are ok. Service is awesome. Love how they are quick and they explain the sandwiches to people that have never been here

Ordered the Italian Sub... Mainly to compare it to Jersey Mike's. Not as good. Not even close. IF there was any sub dressing... Oil and vinegar.. Then it was bland. Not the classic Italian flavor at all. Meats seemed tasteless as well. Service was impeccable! VERY fast.. Terrific hospitality. But, not enough to make up for the food. Sticking with Jersey Mike's.

Nothing special. No toasted bread. Pastrami didn't get grilled. Don't know how they stay in business besides being inexpensive

A little too laid back, could work on the emphasizement of their customer service instead of it seeming like a chore. Friendly just not very welcoming, great food though and awesome location for a quick grab n' go.

Nearly 30 years ago I religiously ate the Thunder because it was made with fresh submarine rolls from the Navarro Bakery on Red River. I even weathered the storm of finding roach legs in my sandwich wrapper after eating my favorite BLT at the store on Lavaca near my workplace. My new rule is to make my own BLTs thus avoiding the issue. Now today I got my NY Italian and headed home to eat it. One bite of it and I was reminded of those sandwiches you find in the cooler at the corner Gas and Go. The bun was tasteless and could have been baked at any substandard commercial bakery. The whole experience came no where near a New York Italian sub ( they have high standards and great bakeries) and I will no longer consider the Thunder as an option. What happened? The bread you use is what truly makes the sandwich great. Goodbye.

We usually have amazing experiences with this location but today on 12/21 at 11:50am the staff was extremely rude. They seemed understaffed and very busy which is completely understandable since its 4 days till Christmas, but thats not an excuse to treat other human beings poorly. The woman that was working today was extremely rude to my husband who was picking up an order under my name. 2 weeks ago we went to this location close to closing and the staff was amazing. Please review with your staff. This is the kind of behavior that makes us not want to come back.

As a Doordash driver, I have always had pleasant experiences with ThunderCloud Subs employees; however, I had an unfavorable experience at this location. Walking out of the restroom, I saw only an employee at the counter. I approached and waited patiently so I could mention my pickup order. At this time, she stated in a rude and unfriendly tone that she was still helping a customer and requested I not "cut" the individual who was standing a few feet out of my purview. I apologized and stood aside to wait for my turn, as it was an honest mistake. My issue is the tone of being accused and reprimanded as one would a child. Upon receiving my order at the window outside, as instructed, I was met with more attitude and an eye roll as she walked away. I rarely write reviews, but this experience put a sour taste in my mouth. What was an honest mistake for which I apologized, I was met with an unwelcoming, unprofessional employee response. I hope this location can do a better job to ensure its employees treat all customers and delivery drivers with due respect in the future.

Guy behind the counter rolled his eyes at us because we weren't ready to order right when we walked through the door, and grew impatient and started banging on the counter when we took longer than 30 seconds to decide. Won't be going back, even if you paid us.

Usually good. Terrible today. Never asked how I wanted my sandwich . Assumed I wanted the same as my friend. When I asked about mine he said it was ready made. And then said, " you said all the way". I DID NOT, my friend said that. I hate MAYO. He scraped it off but I can still taste the disgusting mayo. WORST SANDWICH EVER!!!

Very unhappy with my order yesterday. The veggie delights had avocado and hummus. THAT IS IT. No veggies at all. And I am glad I counted the sandwiches when I was there because one was missing. I ordered 6. The lady behind me was bringing her sandwiches back because one of them had mayonnaise and onions only. No meat nothing. What has happened to the quality control!!

While the staff was polite the sub was terrible. When you order a tuna sub you want to taste some tuna! Bread, lettuce and tomato is not good. When you pay almost 8 dollars you want to taste more than bread. The Thundercloud sub at IH35 and 51st can make a sub!!!!!!! Will be going there from now on.

September 7th rude gentleman (I used that word extremely light) not nice. Didn't know there different between different styles on the menu. In other words he could explain the products and didn't try. Younger guy in his 20s. Very short in speech as if I was a bother to him. No met on his facial hair. the young lady working alongside him seem to give the customers a different experience however she didn't have anything on her hair either. This was my first visit and will be my last. I could care less to have someone reach out to me.

There is one short woman who works here. Under absolutely NO CIRCUMSTANCES do you place your order with her. She is so full of herself it oozes out of her and makes the sandwiches go rotten. She has a Napoleon complex and is the type of person that given the chance would spit in your food, right in front of you, if she thought she could get away with it. I have ASD and I feel like I was discriminated against because I am visibly different in my social interactions. I hope management pays attention and lets this foul creature go.

thundercloud used to have integrity. our subs were delivered via #favor. i ordered 30 mins before closing. 2 sandwiches.the order was accepted by #favor. the delivery person was pissy about our ordering too close to closing time. both subs were wrong. they were squishy, soggy. our sandwiches were EXACTLY same as you'd get from a vending machine or convenience. shame on you #thundercloudsubs. yall suck. i was born/raised in austin tx. i DO REMEMBER when yall made quality sandwiches- when other shops did not. i will NEVER eat at #thundercloudsubs again.
