If this place that you need to visit 2-3 times AT LEAST! The variety of food is exceptional, the quality was always on the spot. It's not just the same 10 types of pinxos with meat stacked on meat. As for a business method of sending around a waiter with a plate of new treats every few minutes: "YES PLEASE. I'm already full, but yes I want to try whatever you bring. It looks good." It can get a bit crowded, and you need to go to pick up the pinxos, so it can be a bit tricky to maneuver around, but it really worth it. Following the prices is easy, you just have to keep in mind the different skewer types you have in front of you. Absolute winner place.

Super pincho restaurant, queued for 5 mins to get a seat but well worth it, choose your pinchos from the bar and the bill is totted up at the end based on how many sticks you have on your plate. Great selection, tasty, great service!

Fabulous. Excellent for the whole family. Great vibe. You sit, order drinks and then go to a buffet for cold pintos… they walk around with hot pintos and you take what you like… you keep all the sticks and put them in the cup in the middle of the table and they count them at the end when you pay. It’s lovely.

There’s always a line outside of the restaurant and for good reason. The concept is good and the food is even better. It’s like a buffet where you get to choose what tapas you want to eat and the waiters also walk around with food options. Their white wine “Raventos” was great. The outside area offers a great view of the city plaza and the ocean

What a great dining experience. Self service buffet of tapas and pinxos, freshly prepared and a vast selection plus roaming staff with more on offer at the table. Just collect the sticks and picks and pay at the end - so simple. Great wine too at unbelievable value… You can’t book, which for me is a blessing, but the team there take your name and message when table becomes free… yes, it was that busy both times we went! Thankfully, it’s not for everyone and those people are welcome to carry on spending their euros on overpriced paella elsewhere!

The food was freshly prepared and allowed us to try a variety of tapas at a relatively inexpensive price. The staff are lovely and explained the system to us. We enjoyed it so much we revisited on our second night in the area. We got there just before they opened at 7.30 and got a table as soon as the doors opened, I guess that on busy evenings there may be a wait.

Great experience, we were a really big group yet the waiters felt very present and helpful. The choice of dishes was diverse enough for all food restrictions and tastebuds, there are also bigger portions that felt more filling for those with a bigger appetite. The waiters walk around with the selections, but you cannot make a request for a specific dish. It is part of the experience, but some dishes do not come around very often, so grab them while you can. We were there for an hour and a half and some dishes only came out once.

Came here with a large party and were able to accommodate us. You are able to go up and view the selection and then request your tapas. The tapas range in price and is clearly labelled based on the stick/plate they are presented with. The range is very extensive and includes both hot and cold options, meat, seafood and vegetarian, as well as desserts. The staff will also come around to the tables intermittently offering fresh hot options. Some were very delicious, while others were average to good. There is a bar on site and they do offer various selections of wine, beer and soft drinks, however we were not given a menu for this. The service was fairly professional and friendly, but the experience itself is worth going for. You can eat as little or as much as you want, and with the selections there's something for most people. Just be prepared to wait for a table as it is very popular.

Excellent. There's a bit of a wait, as they don't take reservations and it seems to be one of the busiest spots in town. But the food is worth the wait. You get small bites on sticks, and you pay according the the amount and type of sticks you collect through the evening. The variety and combinations of the food bites is impressive, and delicious. And prices very reasonable. We stuffed ourselves (30 sticks in 2 people), with two drinks each, and spent just over 60€. Very recommended!

Loved this tapas restaurant! Great food. Great service. Great location with view of the sea. You pick cold tapas at the bar. Waiters circulate and offer hot tapas. And can order calamari and a few other items from your waiter. We’ll be back.

The Calau tapas bar in Calella is a real must-see institution in the Costa Brava. One of the best tables in Catalan gastronomy. You have to book, otherwise you have to wait for an hour and a half outside. The waiting list is long. There is nothing to say about the value for money.

Los pinchos riquísimos , si que que la camarera fue una pesada, los demás chicos muy amables y serviciales .

Un acierto comer acá, es la 3ra vez que vamos. Es cierto hay mucha gente y se hace cola, ahora te anotan, dejas tu número de teléfono, y te mandan un mensaje cuando tu mesa está lista. Nosotros fuimos 2 y entre la cola para anotarse y recibir el mensaje, pasaron 45 minutos, por eso paciencia y saber que te puede pasar esto de esperar. Adentro hay diferentes pinchos, y según la forma del palito es su precio, que puede ser de 1,60 o 2 euros, 2,50, hay otros que vienen en platitos como los calamares a 4,30 euros. No solo dispones de los pinchos en el mostrador sino que también van pasando por las mesas y ahí es donde encontré más variedad, uno de carrillos que pasaron estaba sabroso, en general todo está rico y son muy atentos.

Restaurante de pinchos y tapas, aunque tapas tenían pocas, cuando sacaban pinchos calientes nuevos los iban ofreciendo por las mesas, El restaurante tiene una bonita vista al mar, es amplio con grandes ventanales, y una terraza no muy grande, Los pinchos en general estaban bien. Precio / calidad bien.

Sitio muy buen ubicado en el centro de Calella de Palafrugell. En verano hay mucha gente, hareis 2 esperas: una para que os cojan el número de teléfono y la otra para esperar a que os manden el SMS indicando que vuestra mesa está lista. La comida es muy buena, de verdad. Comida estilo pinxos y tapas. El único aspecto a mejorar que encontramos es que los pinxos calientes, que salen desde cocina, tardan en salir y depende la mesa rn que estés, a veces no te llegan. Deberían ir cambiando la ruta de los camareros.

Bar de pinchos y tapas con un ambiente moderno al lado de las distintas propuestas gastronómicas de la zona.

Me gusto mucho la experiencia. En los postres no me pareció que había gran cantidad, pero los pinchos en general estaban muy bien. Precio razonable y el lugar es enorme y tiene muy buenas vistas

El lugar es bonito, amplio, luminoso y con vistas al mar. El servicio es amable y nos atendieron genial. Nos dieron mesa a las 15h y tuvimos que correr para pillar algún pincho salado porque ya no quedaba nada, sólo lo dulce. Lo que más nos gustó fue las alcachofas fritas de plato. Los pinchos calientes, con mucha variedad aunque pecaba de muchos fritos y bacon. La crema catalana con mucho caramelo. Lo malo es esperar a que te llegue el pincho a la mesa. Precio por persona 23€.

What an enjoyable time we had at Calau. The pintxos were really yummy and they had a big selection to choose from. Service was prompt and friendly. The window and terrace seats have a great water front view, but they were all occupied throughout the time we were there. There was always a line, so be prepared to wait. Our party of 6 spent about 150 euros. Overall, a great place for pintxos and drinks if you're in the area.

Sitio de pinchos que no están mal, pero considero que son muy pequeños. Para ir bien te has de comer bastantes bastantes. Para ir cenado unos 25€ por persona bien bien. Personal amable.

The restaurant itself was clean and well presented and for those that research the places they eat and like the sound of this concept, this is a great place from most of the other reviews. I would just like to bring to the attention of the management that for those like ourselves, who just liked the look of the place and didn't plan a visit, you really need to ask customers if they are aware of how things work. We were seated in the back which isn't a problem but we hadn't even seen the tapas on display in the front of the restaurant. We ordered drinks and a short time later we saw 2 different staff offering what I would call snacks to tables but neither asked us. My wife then asked if there were any menus and staff then explained that we just go up to the tapas on display and take what we like. My wife is both a vegetarian and dairy intolerant so it was really difficult to know what the tapas were made up with. We did ask and we got explanations, but it all just seemed a chore to try and get food we wanted and work out the prices etc. Even though people say this is good value for money, I don't totally agree. For example a chicken croquet smaller than a hens egg was €1.70 and gone in one or two bites. We only had 7 sticks between us and 1 round and square plate each. My wife only had 3 of those and left some as there was cheese in them but this came to €30. I appreciate that's not a lot with drinks but the food wasn't a lot either and as we felt it just didn't suit us, we left still hungry. IF the concept and instructions had been relayed to us from the start, this review would be better. The service itself could be so much better by asking if we know the way the restaurant works. Please make your own judgements but we rarely give poor reviews and this is not a poor one, just not a lot of choice for people with intolerances and a bit of clarity over the concept please.

First time trying Catalan style tapas. The food was nice. You can chose what you like from the bar and waiters bring food around as well. Each item has a toothpick and you par per toothpick or plate. Reasonable value for money but the service was poor. They were really busy and the waitress was quite rude. Got the feeling that they just wanted to turn the table over quickly.

Pues la verdad es que fue una pena no poder probar la comida, ya que el sistema de “lista de espera” no nos lo permitió. Llegamos 4 personas sobre las 14:15 y nos pusimos a la cola. Había un cartel que ponía “completo”, pero entendimos que debíamos colocarnos igualmente para entrar en la lista de espera. En ningún momento el chico que se encargaba de las mesas nos informó de que ya no se podía esperar; de hecho, al cabo de un rato tuve que entrar yo a decirle que estábamos fuera aguardando. Fue entonces cuando nos comentó que ya no apuntaban a nadie más en la lista de espera. Lo que nos sorprendió es que, durante todo el tiempo que estuvimos allí, vimos varias mesas vacías (tanto de 2 como de 4 comensales). Por eso, el sistema de “lista de espera” da más la sensación de ser una especie de reserva encubierta, a pesar de que indican que no trabajan con reservas. En cualquier caso, el local nos pareció muy bonito y los platos tenían muy buena pinta. Nos habría encantado poder probar la comida, quizá en otra ocasión tengamos más suerte.
