Love the brick oven pizza & blue cheese chips w/bacon. But they also have a variety. Prices are affordable the atmosphere is very eclectic. I always take my guest visiting here, live music on weekends too!
They had an event and my drive way got blocked. Since the owner would not come forward, the owner immediately helped me try to get in my drive way and gave me a free pizza! I felt bad but he reassured me. Very nice people
Me and my wife just checked out this place for the first time and let me tell you we are pissed!! Pissed that we hadn’t found this place earlier! We got the loaded fries and shared a buffalo pizza with ricotta instead of the blue cheese and everything was perfect. Definitely recommend!
Went to see Madison Romero play! Loved this fish and chips. Great playlist inside the restaurant. The owner table touched! Incredible hospitality. Support your local businesses! ❤️
Best Food in Ben wheeler! Always a pleasant experience
Great atmosphere. I had a small pizza and it was the perfect size. Charming location. Friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this place.
Great food and atmosphere any time of day. Family friendly and great vibes. One of my favorite places to stop when out riding or just grabbing some grub with my wife
Great place. Delicious food.
First time eating here. Very friendly staff and attentive service. Food was excellent. I had the fish and chips which was better than I expected. Parking was a bit of a challenge, but manageable if you don't mind walking a bit.
The restaurant was very busy it was Saturday around 1pm. We called ahead to reserve a table. The table was ready by the time we got there(20 minutes). The food was good. The wait time for the food was reasonable. Our server Britney was great.
Great small town gem. The food is wonderful and the service is quick and friendly. Their brunch / breakfast is better than their lunch, but then again, I love breakfast. The last time we went, they did mix a few of our parties orders up, but that was the first time it had happened. Lunch time, I had a burger. It was a little dry, but everyone else loved their dishes. Breakfast I've yet to find something I don't like.
This is my new destination place! What started as a nice drive on s pretty day ended up a great experience. The bacon bleu burger was the best I’ve ever eaten. Had the deviled eggs and they were great. I mean, the menu is so good I had to try 2 things. There was a birthday party for a young seventy old lady with people from everywhere. Dogs were outside too. Just a wonderful way to spend lunch. There is a lot to explore at the Forge, so get started.
The food is phenomenal. Seriously. It’s soooooooo good! A bit on the pricey side but is absolutely worth it. The atmosphere is relaxing and has classy, vintage vibes. The employees are so nice and welcoming. Highly recommend!
Absolutely Delicious! My hubby, daughter and I stopped after car shopping and had a pleasant experience. Delicious, creative food. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Favs were the Gobbler, Grilled Portobello Sandwich (super juicy and fresh); and the bacon wrapped, cheese stuffed jalapeños (Razorbacks, I think) but the flavor was nice and smoky with a creamy heat!
Very laid back unique restaurant / bar in a quaint little East Texas town. Live music and a nice outdoor & patio area that has shade trees and regularly hosts events on weekends makes this place a hidden gem that is a great destination for car clubs, bikers and families to gather & their food is amazing as well.
Great little place for drinks or just hanging out. They do serve food but we only had drinks. Really good service, the atmosphere was quaint and inviting.
Great food, service & atmosphere! We don't get here often, but always enjoy when we do !
Excellent way worth the drive, gourmet food and awesome music. Can’t wait to go back!!
I saw a couple of negative reviews for the restaurant from two people in the SAME family, about pricing online not matching the menu. Seriously people!! Get a life! Everyone knows prices may change at anytime, especially as quickly as inflation has risen. I happened to stumble across these reviews as I was looking to see when they were open. I hadn't bothered to write a review and have been eating here for years so figured I'd chime in with a positive review that is long overdue! This is my fav place to eat in our local area. The food is delicious- flavorful and unique dishes presented nicely. When the weather is nice, they'll open up the garage door and let the fresh air in. They have live music on weekends and you can sit on the porch. It's such a funky fun atmosphere and they use high quality ingredients. My daughter and I enjoy their Sunday brunch as well. So glad to have them here! They are an East TX gem!
Great little spot for breakfast! Wonderful flavors! Certainly a great breakfast spot.
Excellent food, atmosphere, and staff! A true community gem that deserves support. All are welcome here, very kid friendly. So thankful this place exists!!! Magic!
One of the best restaurants I have been to in years. This is a scratch kitchen. Everything is made fresh and thoughtfully sourced. The atmosphere is fun and funky and the employees are always smiling. The food was on point. Everything is fresh and cooked perfectly. Our appetizers were delicious and set the bar for the food which exceeded expectations. Everyone's food arrived together and hot, which is no small feat for any kitchen serving a table of 13. Our waitress was a pro and no one had to ask for refills on their drinks. If the food and staff aren't enough to get you in the door the outdoor space in the back definitely will. With everything from stage a giant life-size teepee and multiple outdoor lounge areas this place has everything. This place is the complete package. Do your face a favor and stop on in and don't forget to tip your waitstaf cause they got your back.
The lumberjack was amazing. Potatoes crispy and perfectly seasoned. Biscuits, gravy, bacon, eggs and pancakes…all uniquely wonderful!
This is a gem. The biscuits and gravy brought tears to our eyes. The menu has some spectacular comfort foods that will blow you away. We got the Razorback burger, which is topped with stuffed bacon wrapped jalapeño medallions. The beef was JUICY. The homemade ranch is killer, the sweet tea taste just like mamas. And we went out on a limb to try the Kimchi Grits with Scallops, it’s an array of different flavors - SO GOOD!! The atmosphere was peaceful and homey, and the staff was incredibly friendly. Super affordable pricing too!! Do yourself a favor and make a pitstop here, you won’t regret it. We’re coming back soon for live music and dinner - looking forward to trying the fish and chips and Mac and Cheese Pizza.
Great place to stop if you find yourself on this little back road. Had the French Toast by recommendation from my waitress who did a fantastic job! The menu oversells the piled high with fruit, but it was the perfect sized breakfast for me. Based on my first visit here it is worth coming back for sure.
My husband and I found this as an absolute accident and it was a blessing. I typed in "bar and grill biker" and this popped up immediately! My husband and I rode the 2 hours one way and we were not disappointed! Drinks were tasty, but you could not taste any liquor due to the smoothness. The portion size was huge for what you were paying, and my husband put himself into a food coma. The waitress was very kind, talkative, and informative. This is something off the beaten path that I would recommend to anyone for a bike ride, or just good food in a nice atmosphere. The one thing we would recommend is that of the habanero burger. My husband ordered this wanting a 'kick' and was very disappointed that there was no heat. The waitress informed us it was just pepperjack cheese on the burger, no habaneros, so very misleading. I would just make sure to properly disclose to people what they are getting or just make adjustments to the menu if not able to offer. But other than that, the food was great!
Third time here, first time having dinner, drinks and watching live entertainment. Recommend getting reservations if there is live music playing. We just got lucky and were standing in the right place at the right time and were able to take advantage of a no-show. Apparently, reservations had filled up by 11 am on this particular Saturday. It could have been due to the rumor that rising country star Travis Bolt was coming to hang out with friends!!!! Entertainment was awesome and fun! For dinner we had a Greek salad, Caesar salad and 18” pizza. The food was really good. The pizza crust was perfectly cooked and the salads were fresh. We are pretty local here and I have only ever had drinks. This will be on the list for future meals and entertainment.
The Forge is an absolute jewel in East Texas. Friendly staff great food frequent live acoustic entertainment. I almost hate to give them a five star review because I love the fact that it’s never super crowded and a really fun place to hang out. So I hope this doesn’t draw too many more people into the place haha JK. They are even so awesomely cool that they let me get up on stage during a performance from Zach Maberey and let me play a couple songs even though I’m just an amateur. Can’t say enough about how great this place is. Shout out to Chase the sound engineer as well.
Went there during Hog Fest and it was super busy. Food still came out amazing, timely, and service was on point. We'll don to all!
5 stars all around! Delish food and fun atmosphere! We can't wait to come back!
All homemade food. Very chill vibe. Had brunch here on a Sunday on the way home from sky Ranch… good food for kids and daddy's. :-)
This place ought to be a Texas landmark, Seriously! Awesome food and the service is Great as well!! Brought in My motorcycle Group of 30 to 40 people, And we were blown away at how quickly they served us. Seriously- if your close to this restaurant , try it! You will leave Happy I promise! Definitely going back!
Super quirky and fun menu with many types of options to choose from. Love the vibe and atmosphere. Love this artsy little town, Ben Wheeler. Richard and I had the brunch today.....Amiga and the cosmic mushroom. Both were amazing!
This was our first visit, and we will be back. Our waitress was great, and very responsive. For the young lady that what seating and getting menus, you need more training. When we asked you twice to bring us napkins and straws, you ignored us! Food and atmosphere was great, not going to give less then five stars due to one person. Music and bar drinks were great, and reasonably priced. The “Blue Chips” were outstanding, but your Queso, was just ok. We thought it was overpriced for what you got. Great small town restaurant and bar, hope to see some better talent then the guy last evening.
First time but won’t be out last. What a unique and excellent place to meet for lunch or dinner. The fish tacos and brisket tacos were incredible.
We go for the pizza, fondue, and drinks but a lot of other great menu items too. Love the calm, relaxed atmosphere. Service is great.
Jeremy Garrett Darnells buddy from Carrollton, Tx. Ariel thanks for the good customer service and a great bacon and bleu burger. Great place in a small town in Texas. Will definitely will be back.
Prices were a bit high for a weekday lunch but you get more than enough food for it. Service was impeccable. Don't skip this small town establishment! My only regret was that I was only in town briefly so I only had time to visit once!
Came here based on local recommendations, not expecting much considering other locations. But I tried it cuz where else am I going to eat in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant look doesn't make sense. It's all over the place with random stuff everywhere. The theme of the restaurant seems to be chaos. Then we ordered and HOLY CRAP! This place is fantastic!!!! Just out of this world amazing. Ordered the quesadilla and the flavor of the cheese and the cheese pull had me dumbfounded. How is this place not in Houston? Also the rice, who made it? It tasted just like my mom's rice. I have never been to a restaurant that made rice quite like this. This place is the honest definition of a hidden gem. I would have never stepped into this place if driving by based on the look. Only came in out of necessity. And took away an amazing food experience.
You wont regret going to The Forge! This is my favorite time of year to go. They roll up the doors and so there isnt a bad table. We usually choose to sit outside when that is an option so we love going here. Its a bit of a drive, but well worth it for the atmosphere alone. Their food is amazing...we love their brunch, their pizza, salads, burgers/sandwiches, etc.
5 STARS ON EVERYTHING!!! We stopped in while traveling for a Sunday lunch and this place knocked our socks off. Service was awesome and the decor, bar, and outdoor area would’ve been great for a drinks and food on a Saturday night. We got the biscuits & gravy, razor burger, eggs benedict, and kimchi grits with scallops. THEY WERE ALL AMAZING. We couldn’t believe the food was so outstanding out here off the beaten path. We will for sure be coming back for the pizza and fish and chips!
A weekend trip with a group of dogs and friends. There was 7 of us and we were seated outside on the patio. This place is dog friendly both inside and outside fyi. our server was very attentive and great! The food was amazing with big portions. Highly recommend and will definitely be back when we are in town again.
Really great food. Service, ambiance, and live music. Pretty awesome little hole in the wall spot in an area the buildings give u that feeling of being in a late 1800s early 1900s western town. Highly recommend it. Not terrible prices either. 80 bucks for me the wife and two young adult kids. I mean we spend 60 to 70 at whataburger for dinner these days. So not terrible in the age of hyperinflation.
This is a magnificent place to have an experience. All of the personnel are above, no they are far above average. My opinion of the food is it's magnificent for an establishment of this size. The only time I've eaten better has been when I've gone to an ultra high-end steak or seafood establishment. I'm sad to say that I'm currently moving away from the area and will be completely lost without the forge. And just to be clear I have no connection with the forge other than as a patron. When it is local for me it typically is a two to three event a week opportunity for me. You won't be sorry.
We come here regularly. Absolutely love it. Great food great service and some incredibly awesome live music almost every night they are open. The pizza is about the best in the whole area. They have a huge outdoor grove with large live oak trees, outdoor bars and restrooms if you're hanging outside. Full bar service.
We went to The Forge after a considerable debate and found the restaurant with excellent food and fantastic service. Everything is low-low key but don't let that fool you for taste and efficiency. Food came quickly and it was really good. I ordered a guacamole habenerro burger and it was fantastic. We also ordered the Greek salad which was really good too. Hand cut fries were much better than expected. The best part.... charro beans... this side was really the best charro beans out there and for a side item... I was ready to ask for seconds. Just really really good and tasty charro beans. Nothing in it was frivolous and everything in it was what was needed. Our server... Ms. S was efficient and delivered everything we asked for perfectly on time and answered all the questions . Thank you. They also have a large selection of Pizza topping and by the number of people ordering pizza I figure it was good stuff. Live music needed a lot of additional practice but at least the sound system was good. This restaurant has lot to explore but we went on a wet and rainy night so will have to return for additional tastings and exploration. Hands down... the food we ate was fantastic.
The best restaurant in the area! It has an awesome history and I absolutely love that they kept a lot of the history intact and can tell you about the former owner and how it got the name. Our waiter was 👏 amazing! Food and cocktails were on point! The outdoor stage and area are really nice. Everything was great, the ambiance, experience and food will bring us back again!
Fantastic out-of-the-way bar and grill that's not really out-of-the-way in Ben Wheeler. It just feels that way. Great country feel. Amazing friendly people! The rustic interior is part of the charm. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu including breakfast. The pizzas are terrific. Plenty of options. The blue cheese chips are the perfect munchy snack to go on with the cold beer until you decide on your meal. You can order ahead and pick it up if you don't have the time to eat in. The service is superb! The live music is a plus and the outdoor space is really cool. It's only 30-35 minutes from Tyler. It is well worth the trip! Perfect outdoor music venue under the live oaks!
What a fun treat of a place to happen upon. Ben Wheeler, TX has it figured out with this place. Outdoor seating options abound, this is where you want to spend your fall afternoons. Exceptional menu including NUMEROUS vegetarian and vegan options. Enjoy the fried avocado, shrimp stuffed mushrooms, and deviled eggs for starters. From sandwiches to pizza to burgers there is a entree for everyone. Job well done, Forge. Cheers!
Rolling into Ben Wheeler, you can’t miss The Forge—it’s part roadhouse, part restaurant, part stage, and all attitude. If you’re rolling in on a motorcycle, this place practically salutes you. Leather, beards, and engine grease are practically part of the dress code. Now, let’s talk food. It wasn’t bad. It also wasn’t something I’d chain my Harley to for a second go-around. The burger was decent, but the bun was on a personal mission to dissolve mid-bite. The fries were the crunchy kind, which earned them some points, and the salad felt like it had just missed its calling as garnish. You get the vibe—not terrible, just… food. The atmosphere, though? That’s where The Forge earns its keep. Live music? Check. People who look like they’ve survived bar fights and divorce court? Also check. It’s the kind of place where you could get life advice from a stranger named Snake who turns out to be incredibly insightful. Service was friendly but somewhere between “laid-back” and “we’ll get to you when we’re done telling a good story.” Which, honestly, kind of fits the place.
The pizza is so good. If you are wanting to go for drinks there is a bar inside with restaurant seating, there is outside seating on the patio and they have a back yard area. Live music several nights a week. A fun relaxed atmosphere for those looking for a night out. We go for the food and always enjoy our time.
Had a nice dinner in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. The "Razors" are exquisite smoked jalapenos with bacon and cheese and are not to be missed. If I'm in the area again, I plan on making the effort to revisit.
We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed an excellent meal. The brisket tacos I had were really delicious! There wasn't a drop of grease oozing out of them, and I really liked the pico served as toppings for the tacos. The cilantro rice was really good, too. My family members had fish and chips, which they liked a lot. Another big plus was their use of biodegradable straws and to-go containers. We really appreciated their conscious effort to move away from plastic and Styrofoam, and it made us want to return all the more. The only negative part of our experience (hence only four stars) was the inattentiveness of our server. She was really sweet, but she never came back to check on us and the status of our drinks (my DP had turned into a tasteless, watery mess after the ice melted), or to provide our check. I finally had to go ask for a fresh drink, and then we had to get up again to get our check. It wasn't super busy, so there was no excuse. I still recommend the restaurant, but you may need to be proactive regarding service. After lunch, we made a stop at Blueberry Hill Farms in Edom for blueberry ice cream. It was a great way to top off our lunch!
We ordered a couple different things, the loaded fries and the stuffed jalapeños to start. I did not think my sandwich the Gobbler was very good. The bun wasn't toasted and it was dry lime no mayo on it. My husband ordered the fish and chips and i though they were good but he thought they were greasy. My sister in law ordered the meltdown and I wasn't impressed I thought it lacked flavor. We've heard such good things and the entire style of this place is adorable so I would come back and try something different.
Food was good except the cook needs to know when someone orders over hard or over well done eggs, it means no yellow or white not fully cooked. This is a major issue for me. They were busy so I didnt say anything to server, but because of the eggs, I probably won't go back. Also biscuits were cold. The homemade gravy was delicious and piping hot, so I didn't notice cold biscuits. It would have been nice to have more gravy. My potatoes were so salty, (seasoning salt) I left most on the plate. All in all, improvements needed on breakfast food.
Dinner: Strange, the dinner was extremely flavorful, incredible presentation and wonderful service. We really appreciated this place so: Breakfast: we ordered a breakfast burrito and a pizza. The burrito was dry, with little to no interest in flavor. The pizza was... almost as if they ran out of ingredients or wanted to save money at the expense of the customer. Lacking in sauce, 3 pieces of meat... The ambiance is incredible Service is not bad, mostly expected Food, dinner was great, breakfast was lacking, incredibly. 8/10 dinner 4/10 breakfast. Dennys is my regulatory factor 5/10.
The brisket tocos were on the tough side. Rice, beans, the whole plate, was room temperature. My ol' arse couldn't eat the beans and rice anyway, too spicy for me. Wife got the portobello with turkey sandwich, flavor was right on but it was also cold. Fries were soggy and cold. Margarita way too sweet. And y'all need to add some lime juice to your guac. Definitely wouldn't go back for the food. Great atmosphere though.
Unfortunately we were disappointed in our visit. The wait for a server was long. Server was not personable or friendly. The wait for our food was long also. Food presentation was fantastic but looked better than it tasted. Chewy chicken, salad had a gritty texture, and other items were overcooked. We had high hopes for this place. Atmosphere is great.
So disappointing as we have had lunch there before.. the last three times we went the food was just terrible.. the fish and chips were so overcooked as to be inedible and the fries looked like leftovers from the bottom of the basket. Our waitress was” concentrating on stocking the bar” and we waited 15 minutes to even place our order. $16.25 for this fish plate was a waste.. will not be back
Waitress was very slow & didn't offer any knowledge regarding drinks etc, as it was 1st time here. I ordered the Twisted Tea which tasted like old tea, & my friend ordered the Skinny Margarita & it was made with orange juice . It tasted old too. She sent it back and got a top shelf Margarita, but it wasn't great either.
I had heard several good things about the Forge and needed to try it myself. I ordered the brisket tacos and they where not terrible, but the 12 oz ribeye,(that was 34$), my buddy ordered was something vile altogether. The sheer smell that was coming from it was nauseating like a wet dog playing in a pond all day. I watched in grotesque anticipation as he took one bite, and spit it back up. I wish I could write a better review but I was sorely disappointed in the food.
I read many reviews before going here and was really looking forward to it, but probably won't ever go back. The place was very dark. The paper lanterns over the tables put out almost no light. The menu is brown paper with black lettering and relatively small font, so very difficult to read in the dark. We ordered and appetizer of "Razors" bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños. The waitress turned that order in and came back a few minutes later to take our food order. She then brought our appetizers and meals all at the same time!! The appetizer was delicious, I would highly recommend, but then, mostly downhill from there. I had Americana Chicken, the loaded mashed potatoes that came with it were cold, and I do not mean only slightly warm, I mean cold, and the rest of the meal was served on a heavy stoneware plate that had not been warmed, so 3 minutes in the entire meal was cold. My husband ordered beef fajitas. The beef, peppers and onions were hot, the beans that came with that were cold also. Two very basic restaurant expectations not met, appetizers out first and hot food. Maybe it was an off day, but we'll never know.
This was my all time favorite restaurant & made a day of it to antique shop in the area & have lunch at the Forge. I was so excited as we don’t get out that way enough. A younger dark headed girl with pony tails & glasses was clearly irritated we needed a second to look at the menu. I was trying to remember what it was that I had last time as it was so good. I’ve waited tables so am never ever rude to wait staff. We were ready to order & she spent time cleaning tables around us, getting rounds of drinks for everyone. I catch her eyes & smile & she walks off. I heard her talking to another male staff person & was annoyed by something. We wait & wait & nothing. They weren’t busy or I’d understand. No one ever came over so we left. As we left other staff noticed, but at that point didn’t want her spitting in my food. I’d been looking forward to the Americana & this outing for several weeks & was ruined by this very unprofessional & immature girl - please get rid of her!!!
Heard alot about this place, thought I would give it a shot, big mistake, ordered fish and chips, had to cut the fish with a knife, thought it we rubber, fries were cold, ordered sweet tea had to ask for a refill, waited 10 plus minutes, asked the waitress if I would get my tea anytime soon, asked for the bill, received a bill for pizza, salad and beer??? Waitress did ask if everything tasted fine ignored the question was afraid I might something I shouldn't, maybe I came on a bad day????
We have LOVED the forge in the past. They have great food, but after last nights experience never EVER again. We arrived around 6 and walked in to get a table. We stood at the bar for a few minutes because we weren’t sure/couldn’t remember if it was wait to be seated or seat yourself. We had several employees walk past who simply said nothing. So finally I sat down at the only available table. Shortly after a white older women with white hair walked up and RUDELY let us know that it was “reserved” and I apologized. This is what got me though, after I apologized she sarcastically says “there’s a sign stating so.” (News flash there wasn’t) and then WALKED off. Never offered to help, never said I can get yall another table in a few minutes. Literally just walked away. That’s TERRIBLE customer service. We live in athens and drive the 25 + minutes just to eat there and not to be treated like an inconvenience. Very disappointed.
Have tried at least 4 to 5 times to have breakfast here and we have only had breakfast 1 time that it was actually good. We tried again today and my sons food came out ice cold. The coffee I got the first round was luke warm. I also got my food and the poached egg was basically over hard. Then had to wait for a new poached egg and by the time it came out my other food was cold, so it had to be put in the microwave to reheat it. I found out they don't have a heat lamp to keep the food warm in the window so that's why we keep getting cold food. They did make it right and took mine and my sons breakfast off our ticket. But goodness you would think after trying somewhere 4 to 5 times they would get it right but nope. The service was ok nothing spectacular but it was fine. I did have to ask for refills instead of the server keeping and eye on our drinks.
I ordered 5 beers and was told I couldn't. I watch the lady next to me get 6 opened beers with a carrier. Went to close out my tab and had to help another woman hold 4 beers and 3 mixed drinks. I'm a local and they weren't, are you trying to alienate locals?
The old blonde lady who waitresses outside sucks. Told her twice we were sitting at a table outside and she never came over to our table but attended other customers near by. It appeared we weren’t in her section so it wasn’t her problem. 20 minutes later a different waitress came by and said she had been just told from the blonde waitress someone was in her section. Lack of communication. If you want to wait a long time for service then this is your place.
The food i and my friend ordered was saturated in grease and was nasty ,finally the manager came too table and was not trying to help us at all kept telling us how it was their best seller (fish and chips) which was fish and fries did not offer my money back even thought I did not eat the dinner gave her the whole thing back minus a part of a fish that I tasted n two fries that were so limp n nasty looking was awful very disappointing after paying 19.00 for it n being up charged for using my card as well.....
