Preguntas frecuentes sobre Chengdu Style Restaurant
Opiniones de Chengdu Style Restaurant Berkeley
The food is delicious and truly home-style! Highly recommend it for people from Sichuan and Chongqing.
Good food good service. If you want big portions come here. The mapo tofu is really good and their pork is too.
This restaurant has very authentic Chinese food, I’ve been here every week, either for bento or cooked dishes. I strongly recommend their toothpick lamb, love it so much!
The dishes were authentic, spicy, and perfectly executed. Definitely a must-visit spot for anyone craving real Chinese heat! A few days ago, I dined here and carelessly left my camera behind at the table. I was devastated when I realized it was missing. When I called the restaurant, the owner immediately confirmed they had found it and kept it safe for me. Their honesty and integrity were truly heartwarming. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!
I got their boil fish and twice cook pork. They are delicious! Days later I took a homeless person with me and they gave me a buy one get one free! Truly servant heart ❤️ people you can not not admire. 😇 They won gold medal award in competition. They are authentic Chinese food. Come to try for yourself.
This restaurant is honestly the best — not just for the food, but for the people. We had an event at UC Berkeley today, and the place we ordered from forgot all the utensils. We didn’t have time to run to Walgreens or Target, so we stopped by this restaurant to buy 60 forks. They just gave them to us for free. That kind of kindness is rare. Their food is great, but their warmth is what makes them unforgettable.
The food was so good, the staff was so friendly, and the service was fast! They helped accommodate a soy sauce allergy (which I recognize might not be the easiest thing to do) which was amazing. My favorite dishes that I tried were the Boiled Sliced Fish in Chili Oil and the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce. The Cold Dressed Cucumber was also refreshing! Would definitely come back just to order my faves and try some new dishes.
We have been dining here for over two years , the consistency of the food and the warm hospitality from every staff make us come back again and again. This is an authentic family style restaurant featuring Sichuan cuisine, namely highlighting the unique flavor of a combination of Chinese spices . Our all-time FAVORITE ITEMS: dry pot crispy fish( Gan Guo Yu) , Cold noodle ( Liang Mian) , cold bean curd noodle ( Liang Fen) , veggie rice ( super flavorful and not salty at all) , even our 12 and 8 years old children are enjoying the food with non stop compliments. Highly recommended for making a stop when you come to Bekerley !
I had an amazing dining experience at Shengdu Restaurant! The food was incredibly delicious — every dish was full of authentic flavor and perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great Chinese food!
进门就找阿姨和小哥推荐,剩下的最后一条新鲜鱼拿下,两个人又吃了两个热腾腾的锅盔,饱饱的心满意足😌As recommended by the auntie who have been working here for more than ten years, we chose the "Fragrant Boiled Fish" (飘香沸腾鱼). The fish slices were cut to the perfect thickness and cooked just right—tender and delicate without falling apart, melting in the mouth with no trace of fishiness. The chili oil broth was rich and aromatic, delivering a balanced blend of numbing and spicy flavors. The ratio of Sichuan peppercorns to dried chili was spot on, exciting the palate without overpowering the natural sweetness of the fish. The base vegetables included green Shanghai Bok Choy, which were crisp and refreshing—much loved by the whole family. The addition of firm tofu and cilantro provided a complementary texture and enhanced the overall layering of flavors. When the dish arrived, the aroma was incredibly enticing. The high-heat activation of the dried chilies and peppercorns released a deep, fragrant bouquet, while the vibrant red color made the dish visually irresistible. This dish was a perfect harmony of color, aroma, and taste—spicy, flavorful, and served piping hot. It was both satisfying and appetizing, an ideal choice for those who enjoy bold flavors! ! Recommend!! 店家非常热情,胡师傅是最棒的!
The dishes were authentic Sichuan flavors. The lamb soup, in particular, was exceptionally tender and flavorful. If you’re a fan of spicy food, this place is a must-visit. The staff were both friendly and attentive, ensuring we were well cared for throughout our meal. I’ll definitely be returning to explore more of the menu!
This restaurant is located on the UCB campus and seems geared toward college students, which shows in both the atmosphere and the menu. Unfortunately, the venue feels dated, not very clean, and a bit rundown — we regretted coming in almost immediately. Still, we hoped the solid Google rating meant the food would redeem the experience. We ordered Juntun Crusty Pancake, Sautéed Sliced Beef with Onion, Diced Pig Ear in Chili Oil, and Toothpick Lamb — all classic Sichuan dishes. Sadly, none met our expectations. The beef with onion was plain and lacked the bold flavors typical of Sichuan cuisine, and the toothpick lamb was tasteless and tough to chew. Overall, we cannot recommend this restaurant, especially given the many better options in the Berkeley area.
I just really did not like the food here. It didn’t taste fresh and there’s some sort of coating on the food that taste very weird in my mouth. I’m not even sure how to explain it. Also if you’re vegetarian or vegan don’t eat here. Some of my chicken fell into the rice and he just scooped it using the rice scooper and put the same scooper back in. The kungpao and spicy chicken were probably the worst things I’ve eaten in a while and were idk chewy like gamey and not crispy. I’m sad I spent $14 here. This is how much of my food is left. Just not for me at all and now I’m hungry and my tongue feels weird and I need a pallet cleanser. Edit: i've since found out that the ingredient that is not sitting well with my stomach and makes my mouth feel weird and tingly and made everything else also taste worst is the sichuan peppercorns that they use in their seasonings. I tasted it specifically on the spicy chicken. Some other people I was with liked it and others did not. I especially did not as you can tell.
Eating here is like gambling, the taste and the look of the same dish from this very same place can be dramatically different. All the dishes we ordered are the better rated ones from this restaurant, just have a look at the pics that I took and compare with pics of the same dishes took by the others, they simply don’t look like the same dish. The taste is also horrible. The West lake “beef” soup is totally a joke, there is no beef in it! After we communicated with the owner of the place, she simply insisted this is just the way it is, despite the fact pics uploaded by other guests clearly show there should be beef in the soup. It is also quite tricky with the tips here. We were told the price in the bill already includes the tip, and we were not even asked whether we want to tip such horrible service and how much. There are so many better Chinese restaurants nearby, if I decide to have Chinese again in that area. I’ll definitely not come back.
