Amazing burnt ends and gluten free Mac and cheese. Always love coming here!

T-Rex is District I now. They still have a smoker and BBQ. Still trying the menu out. Last management let them make food too spicy.

Went for the brisket and the baby back ribs - enjoyed a Mass beer and had a very pleasant waitress who understood to make guest comfortable. Would go again anytime I’m in the area.

They catered our lunch and did a great job. The marbled brisket was the big hit. Cindy arranged everything!

The meats were smoked well and cooked to perfection. I also LOVED the coleslaw. Will definitely be back.

Best brisket in the bay area! You'll take food home with the large portions. Sides were excellent.

They must've changed staff or the chef must've stepped up their game recently. It went from being merely tasty to off the hook. The hot links are tasty and legit spicy. The burnt ends and riblets are still my favorite (though may not be popular for you if you're just an occasional BBQ enjoyer). Their kale is the best way to eat kale, their pulled pork is super juicy and tender. No complaints!

My friend and I were looking for a dog friendly restuarant to have dinner after a long day at the dog park. I had never been here before. The atmosphere is chill, we sat outside with the dogs. There weren't any heaters that I could see, but, thankfully it was a nice evening. The staff was very friendly, and many of them came out to see our furry friends. They gave them water too. We got some beer samples to decide on a pitcher. It was between a cider and a hef, they were both good but we decided to go with the hef. I ordered a steak sandwich with brussel sprouts instead of fries, and a side of mac n' cheese with bacon. Here is my review of each: The Mac n' cheese was to die for and totally worth the extra calories. The steak sandwich was steak, arugula, goat cheese, tomato, and grilled red onion on ciabatta bread. It was slightly dry for my liking, the goat cheese was somewhat strong and had a blue cheese after taste. I asked for no onion, but when I received my meal it had onions, overall the sandwich was satisfactory and I had the other half for lunch the next day cold, and it still tasted good. The brussel sprouts were so wonderful that I could go on and on about them. If you do not like brussel sprouts, I suggest you try them here. They had no bitter taste whatsoever. The service was fast, and friendly. The price was a little higher than I usually pay, but, definitely on point for the quality and portions of the food they serve.

Love the food. They have a lot of options from chicken wings to mac and cheese two very tasty and local beers. I would come here on my lunch breaks during the weekday and it is not busy at all, you can come in order eat and leave within 25 minutes and make it back to work on time!

We had the ribs, pulled pork, potato salad, coleslaw and Cesar salad. Everything was a unique twist on BBQ. Really enjoyed every bite. I've been to many excellet bbq's in Chicago, Kansas city and North Carolina. This is by far the best

Is called District 1 now. Get the lean brisket and cornbread. The collard greens were nothing special, bland, un-seasoned, I'd ask for a substitute.. bartenders are cool, drinks are good, atmosphere is .... industrial/ contemporary... I would go somewhere else on date night but here when I want to get my fingers dirty and fill up on decent bbq.

Had the Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes w/ gravy and red cabbage slaw and corn bread. Meal was great, not too much gravy over the potatoes, just enough for looks, potatoes also had skin on them. Chicken was moist and tender. Corn bread was to die for.

Go for a walk and stop here for happy hour! They have Gilman St. beer on tap which is quite tasty. 😃

Delighful meet up spot with free parking in Berkeley. Chill out here for great happy hour specials with friends instead of wanting to die in the horrendous rush hour traffic of that Emeryville connection. Solid food and drinks- gastropub style.

Good place for bbq, drinks and just to hang out. Good for family, friends. Enough space to fit the happy hour crowd, dinner crowd and late night crowd. Convenient area, good space to park too

I went the T-Rex with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and it was really very good. I had the Cheesy Grits with Shrimp. I will be back for sure!

T-Rex is good for happy hour drinks and snacks. They have a good liquor selection and a decently sized menu.

Fantastic, high quality, festive place for serious carnivores! A bit expensive, but portions are big enough to easily share an entree & walk away full. Delicious, and fun place to spend time having drinks &/or a great meal with friends.

I was actually very suspicious and skeptical upon walking into this place. It's huge and it feels a lot like a Chili's or a TGI Fridays. It has that franchised, overly-invested, minimally-inspired kind of vibe to it, and it wasn't at all what I was expecting from a "bbq place." Don't let that fool you. Order the brisket. Order several servings of the brisket. This place has some of the best bbq I've ever had, and they put some interesting spins on traditional bbq fare. You can get things like bbq pork tacos here, which you won't find at more authentic places. I was really impressed and I've found myself craving their brisket since I paid them a visit. I can't wait to go back. Protip: Don't mess around with the cornbread. A full order of that will fill the stomach of a grown man for a day.

Wow..... If. You are in to ribs.... They have like jurassic hog ribs... I only ate 3 bones of the half rack I ordered. Soo yes the food is great but the waitress was not able to talk to the cooks she has to go through the GM of the restaurant everytime.... Inefficient

This review is for T-Rex's happy hour. T-Rex Restaurant and Bar‘s happy hour is from 3pm to 6pm and from 9pm to close every day. Unlike other restaurants, their happy hour drink menu has no exclusions. All pitchers are $15, all drafts are $4, all well cocktails are $5, all T-Rex cocktails and wines by the glass are $6, PBR drafts are $2, and PBR pitchers are $8. Their food menu is extensive. The heavenly yolks of their Deviled Eggs ($4) go really well with a half order of their creamy Mac and Cheese shells ($4). Since T-Rex is a barbeque restaurant, try the juicy Pulled Pork Slider, BBQ Chips and Dip, or Other Burger for only $4. A side of super thick Handcut Fries is also $4. If you need something a little more substantial, the Smokehouse Nachos and Pork Riblets (both $8 each) or the Slider Trio ($11) are all large enough to share with friends. Just remember to wash your hands since things can get a little messy after a few pitchers of beer and BBQ sauce all over your mouth.

Basic sports channels on their Tvs. Went here for brunch to watch a football (NFL) game and they couldn't pull up the game. Spent over $75 on food and drinks which was good but still very disappointing to visit a bar with such little form of entertainment. Tons of Tvs but very little to watch. Food came out a little slow, but that's probably due to having 2 large groups while we were just a small party of two eating on upstairs section.

Local place for great BBQ. Rotating beer specials. Food is tasty, but service is very slow - be patient. Also, the restrooms are a little gross.

Or first experience was awesome, we went earlier in the evening. Went later one night, ordered the same meals, and wasn't as pleasant as or first experience. We will give it another try and stick to going earlier in the day

Service was a bit slow, but the food was pretty tasty. Above average for bay area BBQ.

Rather hit -or-miss over the past few years, (Due I think to management changes) the BBQ here is decent, bordering on great sometimes. Well stocked bar, open atmosphere, some plain outdoor seating, this restaurant is I believe run by the a family that runs several restaurants in the bay area.

Not cheap, but BBQ is hard to come by in Berkeley. Gluten free sauces are a blessing, and the ribs are tasty. I don't care for the mealy, swimming-in-butter cornbread, but taste is a personal thing. A good place to watch a game, especially around happy hour.

Atmosphere is lovely but food is iffy. Some are down right good while others lack flavor. It is worth checking out if you are in the area if possible. Just don't be ready to be blown away by the food.

I went with a friend to try out the place. My friend got Bbq Chip and Dips it came with bbq carnitas which tasted pretty good. I got a T-rex Hamburger which came with a side of potato chips, this dish tasted too plain which I think they could have done a lot better. I also ordered an alcoholic drink which I didn't really like the taste but does the work wonderfully to get you drunk.

We absolutely love their honey-drizzled sweet cornbread, mac n cheese, and their barbecue. It's a great place to watch sports games, very comfy with nice cushiony chairs upstairs to relax and enjoy with friends.

Decent food, decent service, decent prices, decent ambiance, decent dining experience. Notice the trend here? We came here on a recommendation of a friend, and while it's a decent stopover, it's not the kind of place I'd willingly go back to, sorry.

This place used to have better food. They probably have a change of owner or something but my coworker and i agree the the food doesn't taste like it used to. I haven't been back for awhile now since the price seems to also go up.

Food not as good as before. They aren't even T-rex anymore. It's 1300 10th st. Which is just the address. Going through some growing pains or just going downhill. Too bad, it is such a great space and was so much fun for going out with my family.

Saturday evening, called to see if we needed a reservation, we did not. Upon arrival we were promptly greeted at the door and seated. Drink order taken, followed with our dinner selection. The two tables near us both had issues with their meals while we waited for ours so we were a little nervous. My fish was grossly overcooked, and my date ordered a burger, his was as well. The two tables next to us...still waiting for their food. We had a show to catch, so we could not wait to reorder. The wait staff came, dropped the bill, and left. We didn't have a chance to speak to them about the quality of food, they were gone. The drinks were great, even the service was okay, but the food was not good, at all. We left cash, and walked out. I called the following day to speak to someone, I was told "sorry for the experience". I am sorry too. I really liked this spot. 😟

Remarkable - how does one turn 2 eggs and bacon into a terrible breakfast? T-Rex knows! First, ignore your customers and take forever to make it - turning such a meal into an hour and a half + experience is key. Second, screw up the order then look indignant when you correct them. Third, burn the eggs and give one and a half pieces of bacon. Lastly, and this is important if you're going to put your customer into rage-orbit, don't get the check for as long as possible. Refilling coffee once per hour for bonus points. When this place opened, it was great. Big portions, great meat, decent service, good drinks. I don't know what happened, but the last couple of times I've been here I've sworn it off after leaving. This was the last time. There are too many good places that don't phone it in for 25+/head. Avoid.

I was so disappointed in this restaurant. I ordered nearly $100.00 worth of food and what was delivered was enough to feed two people. While the flavors were good, I would not order from here if you want to feed a few people. For example...I ordered smoked meats for two people. We received 5 ribs and 2 slices of brisket. I ordered a side of mac and cheese which came in a tiny carton that contained two tablespoons of mac and cheese. I am all for eating in moderation, but not when it costs $100.00. I will not return to this restaurant.

M
Marco Calderon

It was alright, but they clearly didn't know much about BBQ. Brisket was grey and dry, ribs were cooked but nowhere near soft, and the burnt ends were unremarkable. Cornbread was nice, and the interior was really pretty, but the restaurant just isn't worth the price you pay.

E
Eddie Gonzalez

The restaurant is really attractive and well put together. The food is OK, but nothing mind blowing. A few things could be improved of execution of the food. Service was OK, bit everyone seemed to be newish to the place of waiting in general. No specific complaints but completely forgetable wait staff.

Read this or not, it's up to you. It's raining and I have time on my hands :). For reasons I can't even explain, I keep coming back to T-Rex in hopes that this place will somehow return to what it once was; good food, good service and solid adult beverages. Today proved me wrong, once again and I realized this place really does suck. Between the poor service, which I don't blame the employees for, but I do blame Matt, the manager and the owners for not properly training their staff and the limited Happy Hour selections, I see why people have complained. There is something called consistency that is imperative when it comes to service and when it comes to food preparation. Consistency is a word that is not part of the T-Rex training manual. Tonight, the fault lies with the bartender and the servers on the sidelines. I'll start with the bartender. First El Heffe was okay, light on the ice and tasty. Second was heavy on the ice and light on everything else. I think he was to busy watching the Football (aka American Soccer) on the screen to notice the difference. Next, the servers. One thing I don't want to ever overhear is a server telling another server to "scrape the cheese off of the burger, toss it on the grill and give it back". I can only imagine what they do to my food and yours when we are not satisfied. Matt, the manager, looks dazed and confused every time I have come in. Maybe because he is working in the back changing the menu for the 25th time, I don't want to insult Matt, sure he is a nice guy. The fault with T-Rex lies with the owners who don't manage well and continue to think about the bottom line and not the customer who has kept this place afloat for years. I feel bad for the kids who work at T-Rex. They are flying by the seat of their pants, clueless about what makes great service, great food, and positive impressions on their guest. What happened to taking the time to train an employee to do good work. I've been in their shoes before and it is not all their fault. They do the best with what little instruction the are given. I guess all I am asking for is consistency in food, service and quality. For so long you did things right. All you had to do was keep it up. Bring back the good, spicy ketchup, don't over cook the chicken, don't thin out the blue cheese dip and fix your drink menu and things may improve a bit.

Absolutely slowest service I ever encountered . Took 15 minutes to get a beer after it was ordered . After another 15 minutes and a empty glass I was not about to stay and wait for another . 3 of us stopped in there for my 70 th birthday for some food and drinks but we figured we might not get the food till I turned 71 .We left .

The place was pretty empty when we got there. We were seated and waited 15 minutes without any service. We got up and left.

Went there over a year ago and stopped going for poor quality food and removing our favorite side dish from the menu. Went about two months ago to see if anything changed. We were pleased with the ribs, cornbread and potato salad. Went again tonight. They have changed the way they do their cornbread and the ribs were tough, dry and the sauce tasted like they used way too much ketchup in it. I didn't finish the one rib I was eating and my friend was kind of eating when the waitress asked how things were. I was said we didn't like the ribs or the cornbread. She said she would talk to her manager. Enter Mr. Manager . . .asked what was the problem, told him the problem and he told us he had tasted the ribs and they were moist and delicious. I also said I really like the heat attack awaiting way they previously prepared the cornbread and he said they had gotten many compliments on the new way it was prepared. Wow, we were wrong, stupid and had poor taste in under 30 seconds. Mr. Manager comped us the ribs, but the lip service was hardly necessary. I don't believe that the customer is always right, but I do believe that if you know good customer service, you'll keep your opinions to yourself and try to get us to remain LOYAL patrons. You have lost us again, less about the food and more about the customer service of Mr. Manager.

No wonder T-Rex is extinct! The service absolutely sucks! (my rewrite from Yelp) Or, let me just say "What service?" It was a beautiful day in Berkeley so we decided to enjoy a beer on the outdoor deck at T-Rex. First, the place was half empty and the upper deck only had one guest out of 4 tables. When we asked to sit on the deck, we got an argument from the hostess, something about checking with the waitress. Finally, after some begging, we were seated on the nearly empty outdoor deck with a menu and a beer that we had to get at the bar. And that's the end of my story. The waitress never said hi, never asked for our order, never offered to get us another beer... Another table was seated next to us but left after 20 minutes of being ignored. Don't get me wrong, the waitress did service one of the tables on the deck, just not ours or the other new table. She came out, looked at us, and went back in. And it doesn't stop there!! I offered my feedback to the GM who could only say "At least the beer was good". Our car was parked in front of the restaurant, just under the upper deck. When we left, the busboy briskly swept one of the tables on the desk knocking food debris onto our car! As if to say, thanks for dropping by, come again soon. I don't get it.

I tried to drink the $14 Margarita while I waited for food to go. It was so sour it actually turned my stomach. I waited for my to go burgers and I should have looked at them as they were BLOODY rare. Meat was clearly undercooked . I had ordered medium. Bartender took the bad drink off bill but still a very disappointing dinner.

M
Mark Adams

Before visiting T-Rex, I read some of the reviews to see if there was any merit what people had said in their prior reviews. True to form, the service was slow largely because the buss-boy and wait staff could not get on the same page. Initially, I asked for an upstairs table the server refused our request. After being declined to sit upstairs, I asked for a table close to the big screen but was told the table (in question) had been reserved for a party (that never showed up). Eventually I was seated by the door on a cushion next to three tables. After being seated, the wait staff took an hour to get a single order of fries on my table. Other parties (who were seated after us) were receiving their orders before mine had been taken? The wait staff appeared confused, rushed and disorganized. There was no follow-up after my meal arrived and the fries were served in bits and pieces as if I was being given the leftovers from the bottom. A table next to me was being attended to by multiple people who were familiar with the two dining guests but nobody bothered to ask "how was your meal"? I had to get out of my seat and go to the bar to get my ticket to pay for my meal (and this was after the place had nearly emptied out). Lousy service, average food and terrible demeanor from the staff. Maybe an off-night or maybe just a poorly managed staff? I've had much better service in some of the foreign countries I've visited where language was a problem. e.g. England, France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Hong Kong, China...etc. You be the judge but don't say you weren't warned.

J
Julie Blackburn

I believe in giving the youth a shot...we all gotta start somewhere; but without an investment in training, the experience is wasted. The manager and owners need to get it together. The poor experience makes the makes me rate the food the same. My feet have never been stepped over so many times. I have video to prove. #notawalkway

R
Richard Idriss

Not thrilled with an owner who would make such aggressive comments in response to public criticism. Your audacity to treat patrons that way will be met with my decision to not dine at your place of business. EDIT: It seems the business has taken down their offending comment. For those who missed it while it was still up, in response to a review made by someone celebrating their 70th birthday at T-Rex and leaving because of slow service, the owner responded by saying something along the lines of "well we don't want old people anyway!!!" Apt choice on the owner's part to remove such a childish comment on a review, but still not something I will forget.
