Forgot the name of the burger. But that had to be the best tasting burger I've ever had!! My Grandfather brought me here and introduced me to everyone. They were very funny and very kind!! They made our visit very much appreciated. 1000/10 would come back!! Love the atmosphere and the food!
This was our first time there. I had the regular plate of catfish with 3 vegetables and it was awesome. My girlfriend had the hamburger steak with 3 vegetables and it was very very good will be going back soon
The server was one of the best we have had , she was beyond sweet and made sure to look out for the customer. The fried Pickles are good and the Chicken Fried steak Burger is Amazing. The best I have had in all states west of the Mississippi. Glad we found this Gem
Great place to relax and have a good country meal. Prices are great and food is great with large portion sizes. Cracker Barrel, with better pricing. Felt like home.
Took a drive out to eat at this place at random a couple weeks ago. Love the quaint feel of the place. Can tell the building has history. Has the small town vibe. The steak dinner came with 3 sides. Three side! That's totally awesome, I walked away full and happy :-)
The food is great . Nice down home country place!! Love it
Awesome place to eat. D Magazine says that have the best chicken fried steak and I agree! Salad was fantastic, mashed potatoes were spot on and the sweet tea is perfect. It was our first time there but won't be out last! One of our favorite places to eat!!! Awesome!!!
One of the best restaurants in the area. Sometimes I order pickup to take home with me if I don’t have the time to stop and dine. The people there are so nice and the place has a nice cozy feeling. I like the burgers but you have to try their desserts. It was so delicious. I definitely stop by when I’m in town. Blue ridge needs more restaurants like this!
Dark but interesting atmosphere, large burgers lots of varies. Burgers were very good as we're the onion rings. The buttermilk is a must have. Definitely a place to go back to.
One of the best chicken fried steak dinners I've had. Great service. Enough food for 2 dinners for the price of 1. I'll definitely be back for the food and the down home country atmosphere. Very friendly staff and other customers.
The home type feel reminds me of when I was young and visited my grandparents and uncle. The staff is so nice and the food is always good.
This is a cute, no frills cafe with friendly service, interesting decor, and generous portions. I went here for a birthday work lunch and got their chicken fried steak. It was very good. I also liked their fried okra. I'm so impressed that this cafe has been around for so long!!
Chicken fried steak was very good especially the carrots..
Delicious home cookin with friendly service, and a fun country atmosphere. Our group ordered fried pickles and mushrooms as an appetizer. And for our meals we got chicken fried chicken, finger lickin bacon burger, taco salad, and pork chops. WOW so good! My dad said it best. “We’ve had everything on this menu and have never had a bad meal! Can’t go wrong with anything.”
Food was good. Got the chicken fried steak. Portion was generous but a little heavy handed on the breading in my opinion. Pie was great. Cobbler was good but it’s portion was really disappointing. Staff was friendly. Good cozy country cooking.
Great food as always. Had the chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The garlic bread is perfect and the green beans were hot and tasty too. Service was friendly and it was the perfect Sunday afternoon meal away from the crazy stuff going on in the world. I always make the effort to stop here when I'm out this direction and sometimes I make a special trip for it too.
Food is amazing!!! Best onion rings I’ve ever had. I Love their burgers too. It’s a little run down building but it adds character to the “small town” feel.
Great place for a down home meal!
Great small town Cafe. Excellent food and friendly service. Feels like family from the first time you enter. Been here for all meals and would highly recommend it here. Be sure to ask for your loyalty card because you will be back and after 5 meals you get a free one
Small venue that is very comfy and great people
The service was prompt and friendly. The burger was delicious and the fries were piping hot! Definitely ask for the ranch to dip them, it’s fresh and delicious. Their drinks are ice cold as well. Please stop in when you need something to eat or drink, you won’t regret it!
If you're looking for some good home cooking and a nice country drive this is your place. They have some of the best country fried steak and chicken and don't forget the homemade pies.
The food is great comfort food. Staff is great!
Love this place! Great food and service!
We have been here a handful of times at various days of week and times of day and it never disappoints. Small community feel with big tastes!! Nothing fancy, but has a cozy country cafe feel. Staff is always friendly and attentive. This is my husband's favorite when he is craving CFS & home cooked sides, but even still he always manages to leave room for their delicious pie!
Always friendly. Mainly locals eat here so don't worry if you are a stranger and are looked up entering. The locals are just seeing if they know you or not and then they go about their business. The food has always been great here. When they have all you can eat fried fish better get there when they are open because supply is limited and are usually out within 2 hours. They place is packed on those night. Breakfast is delicious and they steak I had was tender. Coffee and tea is tastes as it should, never watered down or sitting for long as most places are. Dad and I will be returning every time we want delicious food to eat. The staff are wonderful and friendly.
Just an old down home country food place where they treat you like family.
FOLLOW...BITES:Fannin County and Beyond North Texas E News FOR reviews.. June 24th 2025 Blue Ridge, Texas -- There’s a certain kind of quiet magic in places that have stood the test of time — not because they’re trendy or trying to be anything other than what they’ve always been, but because they don’t have to try. They’ve already earned their stripes, one plate at a time. Cattleman’s Café in Blue Ridge, Texas, is exactly that kind of place. What can you even say about a restaurant that’s been doing it right for over 70 plus years? Cattleman’s Café isn’t just a place to eat — it’s a Texas institution. Since 1954, this wooden-frame building on the square in downtown Blue Ridge has been serving up home-style cooking that keeps locals and out-of-towners coming back. And honestly, if a place has survived seven decades in a small town, it's not just luck — it’s legacy. Inside, the place is everything you’d hope for in a small-town café: warm service, walls lined with local memories, and a sense that everyone has a seat at the table. During my visit, there was a whole group of women gathered around one of the big tables — clearly enjoying a Saturday outing, catching up over comfort food. You’ll see friends meeting up for breakfast, and whole families piling into booths like it’s Sunday dinner. It’s the kind of place where the food hits just right and the stories are as rich as the gravy. When a place is known for its chicken fried steak — and even snagged a D Magazine "Best of Dallas" award for it — you order it. It’s the law. And rightfully so: golden-crusted, fork-tender, and smothered in just the right amount of cream gravy. It delivers exactly what you'd expect from a Texas classic. And trust me, it didn’t disappoint — golden, crispy, tender, and smothered just right. But as I looked around the dining room, I started noticing something: there was a not-so-quiet burger movement happening. Table after table, burgers were flying out of the kitchen. Big ones. Juicy ones. The kind that turn heads and trigger second thoughts about your own order. If the chicken fried steak is the pride of the place, the burgers might just be the dark horse stealing hearts one bite at a time. I'd say the burgers are a very close second star on the menu, if not quietly stealing the show. And then there’s the pie. Lord, the pie. Today’s offerings were chocolate and coconut, both made from scratch — and both worth writing home about. The chocolate pie had a marshmellow meringue so fluffy it could float off your fork. That filling? Rich, decadent, the kind of dark chocolate that whispers you shouldn’t, and yet... you do. You go in for the second bite, then the third, and you have to stop or suddenly you're scraping the plate like it owes you money. Then came the coconut. Very traditional meringue, with toasted coconut flakes..thick with homemade pride. And if I’m being honest? It was my favorite. Silky, custardy, just the right balance of egg and sweetened condensed milk — it tasted like the kind of pie that only gets made on holidays by someone’s Southern grandma. It's the kind of dessert that makes you pause mid-conversation and just go "oh my gosh!" Come for the chicken fried steak. Stay for the burgers. But do not leave without a slice of pie. Cattleman’s Café isn’t just serving food — they’re serving up memories, one plate (and one forkful of meringue) at a time.
The break was amazing. Plenty of great beans mashed potatoes and gravy. Otge e s had a delicious chicken fried steak that was very good to. Warm outmosphere and well taken care of by staff.
Great food and service!! The chicken fried steak is excellent and not to be missed! The servers are very nice and attentive. What you would expect a down home cafe to be like. It was well worth the drive from Wylie.
The turkey club was very delicious, my boyfriend said the chicken fried steak sandwich was also very good! The tater tots were perfectly crunchy & they actually had honey mustard. :) The service was great, we would definitely come back!
Small town atmosphere, great food and service.
Really friendly staff. Very cool building that’s been around since the 50’s-if only the walls could talk. The burgers we had were outstanding, Produce and patties couldn’t be any fresher. We’ll be back.
Have eaten there many times. Food is always good.
Excellent food and customer service! The chocolate pie was delicious!
This is not a fancy place, but the service was very friendly and the food was surprisingly good! I would happily eat there again. In fact, I'm eating there again tonight!
Today, we had the pleasure of stopping at this gem! The staff was very welcoming, attentive and personable. We ordered a la carte: biscuits, gravy and sausage. I could taste the butter in the biscuits; however, spouse tasted a bit sweetness. Either way - delicious!!! I did order a cup of decaf...but they do not serve that option of coffee. I went ahead and ordered regular. Wow was that good! Very hot and just right! If you get a chance, please stop and check this place out. It's worth a visit!
Love this place. Food is excellent, service is friendly and attentive. Best place around for home cooked food.
The food here was absolutely delicious. It was cooked fresh to order and the wait time was not bad at all. We both got Sams burger with our eggs a little runny and were not disappointed. The meat and eggs were hot while the veggies still cold and crunchy. I got onion rings and my friend got the chili cheese tots and everything was so good. Will definitely be back!
Ordered take-out Order ready within 10-15 minutes, large portions, delicious food, friendly staff. Will definitely be ordering from here again.
Great place for a home cooked meal. they include many things on their menu. It was hard to choose what to have for lunch. We have been traveling for several hours and it was a nice place to sit relax and have some tea. Great hometown cooking. With the name like cattlemen’s Café where could you go wrong?
We LOVE it here. Small, courteous, and wonderful food. Nothing is bad here! Good prices and lots of food..
Went here with a large group on Saturday, 7/26/25. This is an authentic rustic little café that has a variety of items on the menu, but the thing they are most known for is the chicken fried steak! The service was great and the food was great. This reminds me of the way restaurants and diners used to be! You feel very welcome.
Little place with a real country appearance and atmosphere. Service was very good. My lady had the famous Chicken Fried steak, Mashed taters , Green Beans and the salad. So good she said she might even marry me. I had the Chicken fried Chicken and the same as hers except Carrots. I already asked for her hand but she hasn"t said yes. Im working on it.
Good food and you get your moneys worth. Service was nice as well.
The chicken fried steak and the hamburger were great. Love the small town restaurants. The service was good, and it was a packed night. The chocolate pie 👍🏼. Looking forward to trying the breakfast next time we come through to eat.
Cattlemans is spot on every meal I've had there. Everythings delicious, the servers are pros and treat you like family and try their pies!! Great place
We love their burgers and chicken fried chicken with generous portions of sides like sweet potatoes fries and pinto beans. I love that I always have lunch left overs for next day! The staff are well attentive and always cheerful no matter the weather...stormy, hot, or freezing. This is one of those little secret gems in Texas.
Great little place in Blue Ridge. I had to go with the Chicken Fried Steak. It lived up to expectations and lots of sides to finish it up. I will definitely be back.
I come a few times a month & it's phenomenal. Today has been awful for me due to health issues I'm having. It ended with more bad news regarding my youngest sons health then a 6 foot fall at school leaving several injuries. Flat out AWFUL day. I called a order in & upon picking it up started conversing with Kim, just slightly venting about my day. They were so busy, she didn't have time to be my counselor & give me any advice. She (WAS) a stranger to me, outside of Cattlemans. She obviously could see the amount of stress in my eyes or could tell I had been crying all day. Her simple act of kindness & compassion literally just restored my faith in humanity. Not only were her words genuine but she gave one of the best hugs that made me feel like everything might be okay and she bought my dinner! This was the most unexpected yet humbling thing to happen today!! ❤️ I just had to thank you! I love this community, God bless you sweet ma'am!!
holy mother mary, the food was too good to slow down enough to take a picture. the El Gordo omelette was absolutely perfect with crispy shredded hasbrowns and some buttered toast. the short stack was perfectly cooked and the syrup was sooooooooooo good. the coffee was delicious and the service was impeccable. i love eating at local spots when i pass through towns and if i ever find myself in this area again i’ll be sure to stop here to eat again. 10/10 isnt a high enough rating in all honesty.
My grandparents used to take me here as a child all thru the 70s and 80s. Now I take my own kids!!! Great chicken fried steak and chocolate pie!!!! Love it!!!
Tonight was our first visit, excellent home cooking type restaurant. Great service. Don't miss the pies! We got coconut and it was great.
Rustic style restaurant with good old fashioned southern homecooking menu. My family and I come a few times per year just to order the chicken fried steak (best in north Texas) and a slice of pie. The pies have a fluffy thick layer of perfectly toasted meringue on top. 😁 Go try their hearty portioned meals. You will not be disappointed!!
This is a really cool family-owned business that has been in business for a long time. It's worth the drive to get some fantastic homemade cooking, everybody should give it a try. Also, don't forget to try the chocolate pie that has a delicious 3 -4 in meringue!
Just an hour north of town—half the price and 10x more delicious—you’ll find one of the best steak meals around. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. Add in homemade mashed potatoes and all the fixings… it’s the real deal for under $20‼️😋👍 I didn’t even have room for the pie. They have coconut meringue. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall country cafe.. Well worth the drive.
This place is amazing. The food was hot and the quantity itself is great. We're new to the area so its really nice to find a place that serves this good! The people were really nice as well. Will definitely recommend and come back! Dont let the looks and area fool you. Its an amazing place!
This a good old-fashioned Texas cafe - the kind that was prevalent 30 years ago. Expect traditional Southern favorites like Chicken fried steak and chopped steak. I been here a couple of times and both times the service was excellent. The tots with cheese and chili are great and suitable for a meal on their own. The hamburger is served on a grilled bun ( the little things count) and there are many option available. This cafe is an infulttreat when I’m in the area!
We wanted to try this place based on a recommendation from a friend, and made the drive from Anna to check it out. We we not disappointed - the breakfast was amazing! The food tasted like a home-cooked meal, and the prices were reasonable for the amount of food we received. It's definitely been added to our list of breakfast date spots. Can't wait to go back for dinner & try their infamous chicken fried steak!
If you are looking for some good homestyle cooking with a friendly wait staff. Come check them out! The food is great and the customer service is excellent! We have now made this our go to spot for dinner about every 2 weeks. Taylor has been our waitress almost every dine in and she is very pleasant and attentive to serving. Which is another reason why we are returning customers.
Went here for a quick dinner. Friendly staff! We ordered and got our salad within 30 seconds! The chicken fried steak was pretty big! The burger was juicy and had fresh veggies. The fries and tots were crispy and hot and went great with their house ranch! A must try!
This is one of those little gems you find in rural America. Down home cooking with a friendly staff and great deserts. I grew up in a rural area of the Northeast and although the menu is a little different (we didn't have chicken fried steak) it reminds me of the diners my parents took me to over 50 years ago. A real trip into an almost vanished America. My wife and I both enjoyed it very much, and she grew up in a big city so nostalgia had nothing to do with her feelings.
It was a pretty warm inside when we got there, but manageable. The salad came out warm so we were nervous what we were getting into. Let me tell you, we both ordered chicken fried steak and were completely surprised. It was amazing. The carrots and and sauteed vegetables were on point. And not forget to order some fried pickles, they were amazing also. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Fantastic food! Service was not very fast but was friendly. One of the best greasy spoons around in this area. Loved the chicken fried steak!!! Great value!! We will go back!
They were quite busy when I phone ordered to go but they stayed friendly and got entire order correct!! The ribeye was tender and tasty... Not sure if they offer a thicker cut but the one I had was very good and cooked perfectly... Vegetables tasted good but the salad was just lettuce so could use onions, tomato, etc to make it a real salad! Cherry fried pies are the bomb also had the jalapeno poppers with cream cheese they were pretty good too...
Surprisingly delicious and affordable. Tiny, small town cafe with an ambience of days past located right on the square. They have a lot to choose from on the menu, but we chose chicken fried steak and did not regret it. We wish we'd have had room for pie. The portions are fairly large and they give you three sides with entrees. The salad was fresh and crispy and cold, and the blue cheese dressing was superb. The steak, potatoes and green beans were all great. The sweet tea was good and our glasses were kept full. Service was fast and friendly, despite the place being full. This place is worth a try if you're in the area. It's a pleasant surprise and a small town experience.
This place has great food it's no wonder it's been a staple of Blue ridge all these years. Good family setting good family food
Took my mother for breakfast it was very good! But I was disappointed you can not get chicken fried steak with breakfast. I have been there for lunch, and the onion rings are to die for! Onion rings are my mother's favorite. I wanted to get an order for her to take home (she lives in Dallas). Cattlemen would not make them because it was breakfast time. The food was good but disappointed that items were not available during breakfast hours!! Also, there are no homemade pies on this Monday!
really good red beans, really good country steak, really good strong ice tea. needs a really good clean.
Old style American food. But I felt like less seasoned chicken fried steak 🥩. And my Burger was burnt. May it’s one of those days that chef wasn’t in a good touch….but that should not be an excuse… service was awesome atmosphere was great. Old school establishment about of locals were having brunch…
My husband and I shared the Ribeye that came with 3 sides, it was enough food for two people. The ribeye was tasty but a little on the tough side.
It was OK, decorations on wall was cool. The potatoes was greasy, ham was dry, egg was good, toast one slice had hardly any butter on it, other slice was very buttery. Hot tea tasted like coffee, but they did have honey for my tea, waster was barley warm. Might try it again but I won't go out of my way.
Fun place. Great pie for dessert. Stars off for the Chicken Fried Steak. Was too thick and really chewy. Sides were good though.
I really wanted to like it. We had to wait outside before a table was ready, that's fine, but the benches outside are very uncomfortable. When we were seated it was a long time before we could get a drink order. If you're not from there the locals seem to make a habit of staring. The whole place could use a lot of updates. The menu is lacking a lot of different food options. The pies are not the best.
Very dark, chicken fried steak was excellent. Garlic toast was good and mash potatoes and gravy too! But, cabbage had been recooked way too many times and pinto beans were awful! Sweet tea was bad😕Had high hopes and could be a really good little place with some improvements! Waitress was very nice!
Traditional country cooking served by familiar friendly faces. Large portions will ensure you will not leave hungry. Great burgers and homemade pies.I have always had consistently great food and service for many years. Friday is catfish night and will be busy. Edit 11/15/22: Now food quality has gone downhill. Service has deteriorated even more. I guess that is what happens when food cost makes you cut expenses.
The waitress was not worried about her customers and the food was cold and dry and the quality of the food is undescribable
1. Waited 40 minutes for a sandwich at lunch time. People who walked in after us were almost done with their food when we got ours. 2. It would have been nice if after 20 minutes they could of apologized for the long wait and told us what was going on. Instead, at 40 minutes the waitress finally came to our table and said the wait was due to not having the fries ready. When told that this wasn't good customer service she defensively replied that it wasn't her fault. (We still tipped her 20% because she was young and appeared to be still learning.) 3. Food was average. I could tell the fries were not homemade so not sure why they took 40 minutes. 4. The previous customer's glass condensation was right where I put my arm. Not the worst thing but it was not pleasant getting wet. 5. The place doesn't have good air circulation so the smell of fried food lingers on your clothing when you leave. 6. Will not be returning.
I got the chicken fried steak and it was so stringy that I couldn’t eat it. They asked if I’d like to order anything else and told them a slice of chocolate pie which was good! But when I got to the cash register to pay they told me the price and I said your making me pay for something that I couldn’t eat and she says we gave you the slice of pie for free! So there free pie and garlic toast still cost me $13.99! I will not be back!! 1/29/23 @2ish in the afternoon is when I was there!
There is NO WAY this place has 4.6 stars. Maybe 10 years ago. I know they used to have the best food around but I wouldn't eat there again if the food was free. I had a Chicken Fried Steak sandwich That was completely Trash. The meat was so tough. I couldn't even bite through it. My dog even tried to Bury it under the rug. It's sad to see such a good place like that go downhill.
By the menu, it looks like a country diner. One ribeye steak. People! Its in the fricking stock yard area! Sizzler steakhouse kicks your ass! Sell it to somebody that cares!
