Great place to relax and chill. Outdoor sitting is amazing should the weather permit.
Perfect neighborhood haunt, great cocktails, awesome staff. You can easily hide away here for a while.
Lovely side yard and some great cocktails. Great overall!
This is an amazing bar! Great music great service and no pretension
Excellent spot, great drinks, cool interior and a open yard. Guinness on draft as well!
Mama Tried is a slice of weathered golf straight out of a pawn shop 300 miles east of Vegas. The food and cocktails are both stellar. Go! You won't be sorry.
Great staff and drinks. Comfy room.
Great vibe, awesome yard! And veggie hot dogs! I'll definitely be back!
My home away from home bar when I’m in sunset park <3 cute staff and djs <3
Great, cozy place. Check out back yard fire pit for cozy atmosphere!
Always a great time there, especially during karaoke.
Friendly place with good drinks and a cool retro vibe.
Great cocktails, vibez, people, all under the beautiful stench of the BQE
We love mama. And Mama loves us back...we'll .. she tries!

Great dive bar in a random part of sunset !
The hand soap in the bathroom smelled amazing! I need to know what y'all use.
Sweet little dive in Gowanus. They have a backyard and a fire pit!
Good people.. Good drinks... pulled pork sandwich...yes.
Lovely place. Not just staff, but the crowd that go there are friendly 😊
Very small bar. Hooks under the bar are convenient.
The musicians are good; the atmosphere is inviting
Sexy place - check. Delicious drinks - check. Super chill, unique vibe - check. Hidden gem - check. Makes me miss NYC - check.
Dipped in on the way to the hotel. Very cool place. Walk in and feel like you have been here for all your life. Good Neighborhood vibe.
Super handsome retro interior with a killer stereo and vintage record player. Bartenders really know what they're doing too, they serve top notch drinks and the food is always so good. Patio seating is super spacious and cozy (and also has been a total win during covid). So close to industry city, I always stop here after going to End's Meat and the Japanese grocery store.
Out of the way dive with a backyard. Loud music and good vibes. Small selection of hearty food : Pulled Pork Sandwich, Veggie Chili, Vietnamese Rice/Chicken Soup, as well as some sides/chips/slaw, etc.
Delicious drinks, chill vibe. I got the pink angel and hung there with some coworkers for a few hours. Bartender was super chill and put up with my “water” orders, he made a great veggie chili, too.
What a great bar. Something much needed in Sunset Park close to IC. Great music and crowd. I was there on Saturday 10/12 and left drunk but most importantly Happy after a long tough week work. Cheers!
Cool little spot in a very underrated part of NYC that attracts a great crowd. I love the indoor decor and the outdoor events they have when it is warm. They also have board games!
Will is amazing! Been following him for a while!! Great cocktails and ambiance!! No drama bar with amazing food and great staff!! Catch Jess and Val for some great cocktails!!
Amazing bar! Perfect for a drink with anytime or for a special event! Staff is great, drinks are delicious and there is a big outdoor space! Its perfect!! Go now! :)
This is a little cool oasis in the middle of nowhere, i.e. Industry City. Located under the eternal noise of the BQE, there's no curfew or noise constraints. Thus, the big backyard is fair game for a very chill, dowhatchawanna hang. Inside, a solid beer list and good cocktails are served alongside a small, quirky menu that revolves around hot dogs. On Tuesday nights, Slam Junk presents a killer array of eclectic live music, often for either a very low cover or a pass-the-hat scenario.
The chairs are incredible. Love the vibe. Great drinks. Much needed bar for the area. And apparently a patio and food down the pipeline soon!
Great dive bar atmosphere with excellent beer selection, well-made cocktails and an outdoor music venue in the courtyard.
Fantastic cocktail bar, with an incredible vibe. They also have a killer outdoor area with a stage and free live music.
Great local dive. A little narrow on the inside, but they have an outdoor area as well so there is plenty of room to move around.
Wonderful local bar. Great servers like Valerie. Great showplace for local music. Love the aluminum water cups.
Wonderful friendly staff. Excellent Bourbon Manhattan. Good and friendly patrons. Outdoor area with a fire pit
Excellent space - really great find on 3rd ave with excellently crafted cocktails at decent prices. Could definitely spend hours here!
Great place on 3rd Ave. The neighborhood needed this. I love the music nights at the bar. The interior is fun. LA circa 1975.
A bar by bartenders, for the people. Great backyard. Neighborhood spot of in the know.
a great space that gathers good people, artists, poets and writers. thanks for hosting Brooklyn Book Festival 2022
Nice bar, good vibes, spacious bathroom. Street parking is a little hard to find.
Nice welcoming bar with sincere bartenders that make very good drinks. My good friend Steve brought me here and I'm glad he did. Two big surprises when I came here. One the food was really good and the awesome relaxing space they have outside. Go there, get away from everything and enjoy yourself.
Great crowd, great service, great bar and outdoor space. Friendly, inclusive, neighborhood spot. Great place to make new neighborhood friends or show up with your own crew. The backyard is dog friendly- it has street access so you don’t have to pass through the interior with your pup, i.e. where they prepare food, to reach it. Also it has photos of patron’s Mamas pinned up on the walls so it’s wholesome as well.
Fantastic. Don't miss the great backyard patio! Finally a place to kick back with drinks. You can enjoy a cigarette our here if so inclined. Bartenders are friendly and the owners are great!
I am a huge fan of Mama Tried, Matt is my favorite part about the whole place. He always makes us feel welcome and always gives us great service. I come to Mama Tried for Matt.
Great place, friendly people, strong drinks. What’s not to love? We dropped in for the first time on a Tuesday night and were happy to see a vaccination check outside. The interior feels classic yet homey, with a generous bar seating area and pub tables. Outside, a jazz trio was just setting up in the large patio area. The atmosphere was chill and welcoming, and we really enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich and chicken pozole. Best of all, they make their own vermouth in house—we tried the Negroni and Manhattan to start, followed by the Regale Beagle beer cocktail (highly recommend it). We can’t wait to come back for a longer stay to enjoy the space and hopefully buy a bottle of that vermouth one day. 😉
Stopped in after work with a coworker this evening and was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the owner/ bartenders. The drinks were also delicious and quite unique. I must add that the classic retro music was a great touch. I will definitely revisit before leaving town. 5 stars!
Amazing bar. The bartenders are experienced and friendly. Patrick is especially knowledgeable and helpful. The backyard is amazing. I cant wait to have my bday party there. The cocktail list was made with passion and talent. The beers are plentiful. If you dont enjoy yourself here, its no ones fault but your own.
Great vibe! They have a sweet, spacious back patio with lots of seating, strong drinks, and lovely folks behind the bar. Music's a fun variety. Just a really great spot in the neighborhood.
Great bar! A little off the beaten path but definitely a place you got to get to. Friendly staff and good prices make it a great local spot
Amazing, magical place. We just had a wedding party for our friends in their backyard, and Colin from Mama Tried was incredibly accommodating and easy to work with. I highly recommend their venue for your next Brooklyn gathering.
Great atmosphere... really chill crowd ...great drinks definitely worth checking out
Great staff and great music venue. The sound person sets the levels just right!
A good place to have a drink with friends!!
This place is awesome, had such a fun afternoon here. The bartender/owner (I think?) was so welcoming and fun. I can’t wait to come back
Great spot. Backyard, live music, cool vibes. Crowd is always good people. Potato salad smacks! Prices are great. Vibes x1000
This is the ultimate neighborhood bar. A good selection of draft beers, beer-and-a-shot combos, and a curated list of classic and special cocktails. Would you believe they make their own vermouth? They also have a short but tasty food menu. It's the kind of place where you can walk in alone and find yourself in conversation with the person on the neighboring bar stool. They have live music on weekends in the warm weather, as well as a patio. My new favorite bar!
Friendly neighborhood dive bar with affordable drinks, and live music in the outdoor garden. Plenty of barfly’s to strike up a conversation with.
I love this place. Amazing backyard. They get bands to play and has a very backyard party feel. The bar itself is lively and without douchbags. Bartenders are fast when busy and nice and chill when it's not. The food is delicious, but it's not an option for a full dinner. It's stuff like chili or pulled chicken. The couple times I've had it, it was delicious. When it first opened I would have called it a hidden gem, but there's no longer a hidden part of this place. It's lively and energetic, giving a life of its own that's quite representative of Sunset Park. If you live in the neighborhood I'd go there right away or if you ever visit Industry City this is a great way to end the night!
The mint green building caught my eye as we were driving down 3rd Ave. We stopped in to check it out and loved the retro vibe and muted colors. There's a long bar with plenty of seats and comfy banquets along the opposite wall. The old jukebox has lots of classic songs (#1 being Mama Tried). The drinks were unique and the beer selection was varied (which I really appreciated). I has the Passionate Tart and that's exactly what it was... pleasantly tart with a bit of sweetness and a passion fruit undertone. My husband had the Tulum which was smoky, a bit spicy, and incredible. He finished with the Leroy Brown. It was very different from the first 2 and reminded me of a slightly sweeter more complex old fashioned with a molasses finish. All 3 drinks were complex, interesting, delicious, and crafted so beautifully. Matthew, the owner was super friendly and made us feel welcome. He spoke with us about the drinks and enjoyed a laugh. I will definitely be returning.
Nice space, good drinks, good food... Sweaty as hell! Turn on the AC it's freaking gross out!
one star is missing because of the outside noise, and i know you cannot do anything about it, maybe plant a fee trees on the street side of your garden ? would be neat
Cozy low-key bar with friendly staff, craft beer and good drinks
Not bad at all, awesome bartender, great jukebox, cool vibe.
Fresh cold taps and if you like stout, order the stout and so on for lager and IPA and so on you’re covered. The bartender was a warm host. Outdoor garden view is unique.
Good music and drinks, nice outdoor space
Layout/atmosphere *Tiki/cocktail bar; few tables; backyard area; no TVs; music from iPad played over speakers Service *Good Food/drink *Pulled pork sandwich (with pickles) - good *Potato salad - solid *Fat Orange Cat Baby Kittens IPA (can) - solid
Don't be deterred by the bright contributions of the BQE, the music in the backyard can be quite sublime, featuring all sorts of storied players.
Cute bar, nice outdoor space and jukebox. The bartenders appeared a bit overwhelmed with serving people and the drinks were pretty pricey. Overall had good vibes, would recommend if you find yourself over there.
It’s a vibe Not the hole in the wall I hold so dear to my heart. But it has a vibe and good music and cheep beer. So this ol boy is sold.
Good spot to have a few drinks with friends. They have a nice outdoor space for live bands. Vibe is not too intense and folks are friendly.
Great frozen cocktails and a nice patio area! 4.2/5 Watermelon Pimms Cup - very refreshing and light! 4/5 Golden Shrub - loved the lemon flavor with the hint of ginger We loved sitting out on their patio on a breezy summer night, but many of the other customers were smoking (inside the bar and on the patio) and we left earlier than we would have liked due to this.
I have no idea that I visited this place... So it must have been forgettable. I don't even drink so I'm puzzled by this. I mean I must have been sober went in and then left and it left such a little impression that I cannot recall why or what I was doing there. It's probably a fine establishment, maybe go and try it and let me know if it is good and let me know what it's like because I really cannot recall it. Maybe mama tried enough or has to try harder I'm not sure.
Mama tried but bartender didn’t. Waited 25 minutes after we placed our order and still no drinks. Walked out without being served. Clearly bartender can’t handle more than 10 people in the place. The one star is for ambience and nothing else.
First time I came to this bar was two weeks ago it was pretty great experience especially “Bill” was very welcoming he was the only bartender there, then I went in again yesterday for the second time Allen was serving me he gave me the most unwelcoming vibe p.s starting interfering in my conversation with a girl next to me totally rude and very racist I was the only brown man I felt very uncomfortable and just left the bar, he even said “just to leave” I was chugging water to sober up before I leave I had added a tip to him as well but seriously made me feel super uncomfortable he had no place to interfere in my conversation with the girl I just stopped talking to her myself but things Allen said were so uncalled for I personally like the bar and vibe however this guy ruined that for me.
Definitely not impressed by this place a few songs on the jukebox bartender is very inexperienced making water-downed drink's the food they serve is even worse my fault for thinking this was a safe spot to eat decor is nice but that's about it I was drawn in because it looked cool but far from it I'll stick to parkslope from now on
Got the worst “Manhattan” I have ever tried in my life. When I told the bartender it was impossible to drink he just laughed, poured it into a different glass and added ice. Three other people at our table each took a sip and confirmed it was something absolutely disgusting. Left that full glass of something there..
Had high hopes for this place when I saw there was somewhere that hosted local bands in the area. Unfortunately, the person that runs the place has an extremely bad attitude. Will not return. *reply to owner's response: I like how he's trying to make it seem like I left a poor review because he didn't book us twice. This wasn't the problem. We had packed the patio for the single show we did play at Mama Tried, when the owner tried to claim nobody had shown up as his reasoning for not wanting us to return. I was very confused as to why he would claim this, when he was there and knew this was just not true. It was a Thursday night, and was really not a bad crowd considering. On top of that he felt the need to insult bands I was suggesting for future bills. I was above and beyond in trying to be helpful, friendly, I had even offered my various social media outlets (some of which are quite popular) to help out this place, which fell on deaf ears. I tried, but Mama didn't.
I’ve been here on multiple occasions with my partner. I don’t know why, but the energy gives that they are racist? My partners ID was nearly not accepted for no reason? Mind you she is 27. This is not the only weird racist-esque situation we’ve had there, it’s actually crazy the bartenders will inherently ignore us and refuse to serve us and serve other white people instead. I dont know if it’s a homophobic or racist issue. In addition, the atmosphere is full of a ton of upper middle aged white people who give weird stares to us, and the entire establishment gives the vibe that they’re “woke” white liberals but inherently racist and it shows. Another time we came with friends who were all brown, and everyone in the establishment seemed angry/uncomfortable. It’s truly just weird to me. The potato salad is good tho. People of color I would avoid this place if possible.
