Opiniones de Maya Congee Cafe Brooklyn
I love this spot so much. The congee is consistently incredible-I am so grateful to have them in the neighborhood. They also make this ginger turmeric soup blend that they serve with chicken, and I am obsessed with it. This has been a staple for me this winter and I’m excited to try evening else on the menu.
Highly recommend! Maya Congee catered my daughter’s 100 day celebration with chicken banh mi, veggie banh mi, and chicken & ginger soup. Everyone who attended raved about the food! The entire catering process was so smooth and personalized. Cannot thank this team enough for making my daughter’s special day so memorable.
This place is phenomenal! Comforting food that's delicious and easy on the tummy (just what I needed), run by really nice people. I can't wait to go back for more.
This might be my favorite lowkey spot in the neighborhood. I’ve always walked past but never had the time to come in. I’ve only eaten congee that my friend has made, so I was skeptical to try another! But I was not disappointed! It was truly deliciously and hearty! I’ve been craving a nice home cooked meal and this is exactly what this felt like. I will be back!
I enjoyed my meal so much yesterday I came back in today to try a different bowl and order a take out item for later. I am learning about congee and its health benefits and love this concept for a cafe to stop in and get a yummy and healthy meal. The owner and staff are friendly and I cant wait to come back and try a new item on the menu! Today I ordered Tofu and wild mushroon and added kimchi and salted duck egg. So yummy!
Nice neighborhood micro Asian market + restaurant specializing in Congee. There’s a large assortment of quality Asian ingredients and ephemera that most Asian Americans will recognize, what a delight. The chicken congee was quite tasty and had a nice texture balance, very delicious! If you’re scared that it’s gonna be too mushy and gooey, it’s not like that. The pork banh mi was good with tender and nicely seasoned pork, along a delicious turmeric salsa. Definitely not the most traditional but they mention that on the menu. Delicious bread. Will be coming back for more !
I've been coming to Maya for some years now. My favorite thing to grab frequently is the chicken ginger soup. Every time I go back home and eat it, I always regret not buying two, haha. My first time trying congee was here and so I don't have anything to compare it to but it was delicious and flavorful. My husband loves the sandwiches, and I also shop ingredients to cook with in their little asian market.
Tiny but super cute and friendly neighborhood cafe! Their “wake me up” congee with pork and broccoli is delicious and super filling. I had it in the height of the summer but I imagine it would be perfect winter comfort food as well. I also loooove the selection of international flavors aside from their in-house menu — they sell East and South Asian brands of chili sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, wasabi powder and other sauces and condiments, plus a variety of local Brooklyn food/drink brands. They even have shrimp chips 😮
Def a western twist on traditional congee, which is supposed to be 'plain' and light on the stomach. But still, I enjoyed this variation: generous amount of toppings, rich flavors and spices, over a heartier grain base. I do wish the ratio gives you more congee than toppings though. I also liked the sesame milk tea, which wasn't too sweet!
This used to be one of my favorite local places, but sadly they’ve removed everything from the menu that used to make it special (and apparently ratcheted up the prices too). I hope you’ll bring the old menu back!
EDITED 9/27. Deeply disappointed to retract this endorsement. After lowering prices this spring, Maya raised prices at the end of the summer by nearly 50% on congee bowls. I used to go every week for lunch, and haven’t gone once since the change. $16-$17 for a weekday lunch just isn’t workable. So sad to lose this place and its delicious food. Original (May 2025) This isn’t really a grocery store - it is one of the most delicious, kindest, and most welcoming little restaurants you could happen upon in any neighborhood. The food is inspired, excellent, and affordable.
Ok I left the review as a placeholder to actually put a review later (which is this)—and I’m Vietnamese, not Chinese for the record. I went with a group a bit back and received bad customer service. And didn’t like the food—that’s it. It’s not about traditionalism or whatever something ought to be; it’s simply that I didn’t like the food or customer service. Simple as that. I don’t judge non-traditional food by its aberration from tradition—doing such would be a bit bigoted—but just by its taste. You can make fusion congee—and I’ve had good fusion congee before, like a congee pot pie at a LA restaurant—but this version is just bland and unappetizing. If you serve traditional congee and it’s bad, then I similarly won’t like it. No need to abstractize it to be about your cultural belonging and identity.
