Haven’t been here in years. The place still has great food. Made a reservation for 4 at 12:30 yesterday and as a business owner myself I see how things happen it appears that the food delivery for the day was late and impacted my reservation. The staff still allowed us to dine and apologized to us. We had to wait a while for the food but it’s understood it wasn’t the staff fault. Thank you for the nice service.
Took my mom and mother in law and the family here for mother's day. Due to traffic we were a bit late for our reservation but the host was most gracious to ask the manager if we can still be accommodated and we were still seated in a timely fashion. The ambiance was amazing and the fusion of R&B, Hip-hop and Soca music was a great combination. The signature drinks and the food ( wings, flatbread, mussels as appetizers) and entree ( lobster shrimp and grits, jambalaya, steak and fries, pork chops) was mouth watering. I remembered Wendell in particular he came to our table asking if everything was ok and had great conversation. He was very friendly and outgoing and his personality was just like "family lay lay lay lay " in my Machel Montano voice lol . This was our first time we will be back for more.
If you are visiting Brooklyn, you MUST go to SOCO Southern Fushion Cuisine, we had an outstanding waitress by the name of “Alfi”and the food was absolutely delicious, the Mac & Cheese was the BEST I’ve ever had and I’m an older patron. Well worth every penney!!! Check them out!!!
My first time at SoCo. I have been trying to enjoy this famous place for months. But Mondays they are closed and certain times during the weekend they close the kitchen. Beautiful place. The atmosphere and decor are inviting. The service is great, I had wings and while licking my fingers the server gave me wet napkins. I asked about food I saw on this website and my server gave me his opinion on each. Soco will be seeing me soon. Why in the world did I order fish and fries and got a table spoon worth of sause.
Great experience. Had to warm up and relax my thoughts. However, with a restaurant of approximately 14 people, I did not understand the question about reservations and it was only 2 of us. Then the server (Brianna) needed to introduce herself, but I understood. It was a slow night, she was the main (only) server. Thankfully the Manager (host) assisted her. The appetizer came out with the entré because the order was placed as a course and not what we initially called it (appetizer). No harm no foul. The service improved greatly. The food was great. We ordered the Salmon and pecan-encrusted pork chops. We both cleaned our plates.
I love Soco!! Their food, their atmosphere, the live music sometimes...They have the best! mac and cheese. $13 for a bowl but worth every dollar! A must Go! an eclectic experience. I've visited a few times for mother's day with my mom and sis, hanging with friends..just go. I'm on my way back soon!
Came here for a Saturday brunch. The service was impeccable. There was no long waiting to be seated even though we were an hour late for our reservation. The drinks were very delicious, we ordered the strawberry and mango lemonades for $7. The food was hot and served fresh. The chicken and waffles were pretty delicious. The Mac and cheese is a shareable size and was very cheesy also crunchy. The prices are a little steep, but definitely worth it. I will definitely come back here. I highly recommend. SOCO Restaurant which is located at 509 Myrtle Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205 bills itself as a Soul Food Restaurant with a Twist. As a Native New New Yorker with Family Roots in St. Stephen, South Carolina I wanted to taste their Soul Food with my South Carolinian Taste Buds to ascertain whether SOCO knows Soul Food. The Verdict is that SOCO knows Soul Food well enough to put a Twist on it without making an aberration of Soul Food.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Southern Grits should have a smooth texture, be cooked thoroughly (not gritty), not be congealed like cold flour gravy , should not be soupy, should not have the consistency of porridge. SOCO Creamy White Cheddar Grits tasted exactly like my South Carolinian Grandmother's Grits. 👏🏾🌟She taught me how to cook Grits to avoid making."tight" Grits. That's Grits with school lunchroom mash potatoes consistency.😆 Their Macaroni and Cheese which was presented in a miniature Cast Iron Skillet (Lovely Southern Presentation) from oven to table was music to my Southern Taste Buds. The Sauteed Greens without meat were slightly acidic seasoned well and were scrumptious. The Farm Fresh okra along with diced Farmer's Market Fresh Tomatoes in a buttery well seasoned sauce was delightful to my palate. 5 STARS TO THE CHEF🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Came here for a Saturday brunch. The service was impeccable. Black owned establishment. There was no long waiting to be seated or for our food and drinks. The drinks were very delicious. We ordered the Mango Mimosas. The food was hot and served fresh. The salmon cakes melts in your mouth. The Mac and cheese is a shareable size and was very cheesy also crunchy on the top. I ordered the lobster/shrimp/grits which was very tasty and cooked to perfection. The prices are a little steep, but definitely worth it. I will definitely come back here. I highly recommend.
When we walked in, I noticed that the place was really dark. It also did not have much to do with interior design. But it didnt matter because the food was absolutely delicious! The wings were very flavorful, the greens were good not great, mac n cheese was FANTASTIC, chicken and waffles awesome as well. The only thing we didn't like was the hush puppies. They still get 5 stars. We also got a glimpse of Marc. Update: the place got cited for roaches and rats. I know its nyc, but damn. Nasty. Marc get it together
The food here is amazing!!! 10/10. I had the Catfish and grits and it was the best I've had so far in NY, mind you I'm a NY native. My friend had the Chicken and waffles and she also loved it. I will definitely be returning to try more but the only negative is the wait time. Be prepared to wait long to get seated and get your food. I mean its worth the wait cause the food is that good 🤷🏾♀️. Also you can't call ahead to reserve, you have to be there in person. Parking isn't too great in the area either and the restaurant isn't huge but nevertheless I would highly reccomend.
Highly recommend!!! My husband and I came here for our anniversary and had an amazing time! The music was great. The salmon was cooked to perfection. The smoked chicken was delicious. The mussels were worth every dollar. We don't add the pork sausage but it was still delectable. The mac & cheese did not disappoint. You want to visit here!!
Food was phenomenal, but customer service could be improved. We waited 10-15 to be seated although the restaurant was basically empty. In their defense this was around opening time so I understand getting into the groove of things. After that everything went smoothly, though. Our food came relatively quickly, and was hot and fresh. I definitely recommend the mussels, they were to die for. The f-que wings were pretty good. The gumbo was delicious, although I wish there was more rice to go with with. I ordered the side of white cheddar grits to finish up the gumbo and it was an awesome combo. The white cheddar grits are EVERYTHING. MUST TRY! The chicken and waffles was good too, although I wish my waffle was crispy. 9/10, would definitely come back!
WHEN I TELL YOU…. I had an AMAZING experience here. I am not exaggerating. lol The food was phenomenal! The service was great and the ambiance too! I have been thinking about this experience for 4 days straight and cannot wait to be back. The cornbread—a MUST. the F Que wings—delicious! The fish and grits. Sooooo good! And the chicken and red velvet waffle was delicious! Definitely recommend every dish I tried.
The Sunday brunch was so really good. The food was amazing and everything really did taste amazing. The drinks were strong and delicious as well. There were a lot of people there at this time which prolonged our food more than the average time. We had a party of 6 people and had to ask for water a couple times instead of being given the water bottles for the entire table. There also weren't able to accommodate a vegetarian who wanted to have red velvet waffles without the fried chicken. The dish wasn't able to be separated, because it was a "Soco Specialty". So be mindful of your dietary restrictions when coming here. Overall the experience and food was really good and the I would definitely go again.
Overall I would give this experience a 10+. This place has done a complete turn around. My 1st visit in Feb.2019 was a -10rating due to over 1hr wait (with reservation), slow service, missing utensils, noisy, unattentive waiter, I had to ask for utensils, black pepper, water, I didn't like a drink but the waiter still charged for a drink he took away instead of replacing it or adding flavor. It took over 10 mins to pay the tab... It just killed 3 hours of my day for sucky food and service. I told myself that this place is overrated and I would not be returning. Fast forward 6 months later, I'm in the neighborhood and this is the chosen venue. Despite my previous experience, I gave it a try again and I am happy that I did. EVERYTHING was AMAZING, I'm not exaggerating either. The host was very inviting and seated us at the bar until a table was ready. The bartender was professional and kind and even knew to bring our drink to our table, which by the way was so good, we had 2 rounds 😬. What I found interesting was, both the waiter and the bartender, went above and beyond to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction. It felt like we had a private dining with 3 butlers! The food was the served timely, hot and delicious. I'm happy they added spinach to the steak and eggs entree because it was very tasty unlike my previous visit. We ordered 3 entres and an appetizer and they ALL flavorful and delicious. Due to attentive staff, excellent service, delicious food, on this day we tipped 30% and I will definitely be returning.
The food was great especially the mac and cheese!!. The host was pleasant and the waitress was great. I forgot her name but she made the experience of being at this location for mother's day weekend great. She was on point with everything. It was my first time too. I will surely go back a next time.
Wow, and wow, and wow, and wow... we went for brunch, and are trying to head back for dinner before we drive back home to Boston. You walk in, and the DJ's music hits you, and you're nodding your head while you walk to your table to be seated. Amazing atmosphere, and beautiful people... but the star of the show is the FOOD! Lobster and Shrimp grits... PERFECTION. Mac and cheese... PERFECTION. Haven't had the dinner yet, but you will NOT be disappointed in the brunch. All i can say is WOW!
Their food here is amazing. The vibe is definitely great the music is good it is always crowded here so please make a reservation if your not sitting at the bar. Great place for birthday dinners, graduation dinners, etc. My favorite food is the F-Que Wings and the Mac and cheese. The staff here is extremely friendly and the manager is always available greeting and seating guest that come in. On Wednesday there is happy hour the whole entire day at the bar including some appetizers.
They were short-staffed, so wait times for seating and food coming out were not favorable. However, the wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious, so that distracted from the long wait. This restaurant would be much better if they had sufficient staff, but it has the charm of a festive atmosphere, so overall, I had a great dining experience!
I’m originally from ArkLaMiss and just wanted a little comfort from home. (Side note: can definitely cook it myself but NYC doesn’t sell filé in stores) It’s a snow day so I decided to pop in. Ordered Fried Catfish bites and Gumbo to go. While waiting on my order I decided to have an Angry Orchard. Beer selection trash. But the reason for my post is the Gumbo. Throw it in the trash. Gumbo is not “tomato and lobster” based. Gumbo definitely does not have frozen mixed vegetables… you know green beans and carrots. The bartender which was awesome called it Gumbo Fusion. Well put that on the menu because that is a seafood soup. Not at all close to Gumbo and where’s the slim and okra? Scared to try the grits Positives: atmosphere, music, bartender and location
I really enjoyed my visit to Soco. The food and wait service were good. My meal was A-mazing!! I had the grits shrimp and lobster. The only reason why I am giving them 4 stars is because one of my co-workers order a red velvet Waffle with fried chicken and when asked how it was she stated it was too thick and she no longer wanted to eat it. When given an option of something else they suggested mashed potatoes and she asked for French fries and she was told she he can only substitute mashed potatoes. We didn't see the difference. You would think the French fries would have been a cheaper substitute. She was extremely upset because she really likes Soco and brought us there because of her past experience there. We all would still return, but know not to order the red velvet Waffle. Now don't get me wrong Everyone has a particular way they like their waffles.
If you're in Brooklyn, give Soco a try. You will not be disappointed. Its twist on Southern cuisine is delectable, and the presentation is cute. When it comes to the bar.... Get ready! The drinks are DRINKS! I only have one suggestion for Soco, please do not bring my appetizer with my entree. That's a HUGE no-no. Oh yes, if you're visiting on the weekend, make a reservation.
I like the vibe of this this, it honestly felt like a cool place to chill out and enjoy nice day date. My wife and I came out looking looking for a nice lunch date and we had a really good experience here.I had a very good chicken sandwich and my wife enjoyed a good piece of salmon. The grits were a little disappointing though, i remember them being much better.
Great location, I found parking right away out front. The wait was about 45 min for brunch on Sunday , you can sit at the bar or walk outside there's a nice art store across the street. There's outdoor like seating in the back and family seating inside if you have a large party with you. I was a party of 2 and they had seating for us as well . Also very clean bathrooms and handicap accessible. I ordered the Mac & cheese , red velvet waffle and fried chicken with collard greens. The waffle was EXCELLENT, the chicken was cooked very well , the Mac & cheese was just ok it wasn't flavored enough in my opinion, but it was a great value for such a huge order, our waitress was kind and attentive. It all came to about 45$ .
Had to scour the menu for vegetarian options but the options were delicious. The host, Maurice, was very friendly and accommodating. Other members of the staff were very friendly and professional as well. Our waitress seemed overworked and grumpy (everybody has those days) Overall good food, good vibes, good music, REALLY good drinks. Worth checking out.
Nice atmosphere & staff. Sangria was tasty. The food was decent I purchased the blackened salmon. The salmon needed to soak in the seasoning a little bit more and the sweet potato mash had too much citrus in it. I did not complete my meal. However I would go again to try another dish off the menu.
Upon the high recommendations of my friend I decided to try out Soco and I was very happy that I did. The food: We ordered the red velvet chicken and waffles, the mac and cheese, and the brisket. The chicken was juicy and well seasoned and the red velvet waffle was ok, but nothing extremely special. The brisket was spicy and tender and paired well with the collard greens and mashed potatoes. The mac and cheese was OUT OF THIS WORLD delicious - like probably the best I have EVER eaten... I wish I could accurately put into words how amazing it was, but instead I just recommend that you come here yourself, like today, and try it. You will be blown away. The price: The prices were standard for NYC - for the food and one drink, it came to just under $100 with tip. The staff: We ate at the bar because it was packed on a Saturday night and we were hungry, so we interacted with the hostess and bartender only. The hostess was extremely friendly and even checked in on us. The bartender although very busy was friendly as well. The only downside was that the food was delivered a little slowly from the kitchen. Overall, a good experience and definitely worth coming back another time. They have a good variety of southern foods on the menu that I am excited to try out (and I will definitely be back for the mac and cheese!)
Great service the staff was very attentive. They just had a staff meeting so it fired up the workers to be on there grind. We had water filled up everytime it went down to a 25% to depletion lol. It was a little overwhelming at time but cool. The waiter was pretty good. He made a recommendation on dessert gave such a vivid description I felt I knew what I was going to have. The hostess did a wonderful job at seating each guest at the bar to wait. I am as well looking around restaurant because I'm a people person. As the staff meeting being held, she managed wait time lovely. Very smartly done! Utilizing the "baseball game" as another distraction helpe. My partner and I had a great time, great laughs new memories. Love to see Brooklyn in the right direction growth in NYC! Love it!
If you like macaroni and cheese and you are reading this review thinking about going to Soco, stop reading and go immediately. The entire menu is very tasty. My favorites are the wings and the ribs. The macaroni + cheese is also out of this world. Soco has all day happy hour on Wednesdays. Food specials at the bar only include wings and the Mac and cheese but honestly that’s all you need! The rest of the week happy hour is from 12pm-7:30pm Happy hour drinks are margaritas, rum punch, sangria, wines, corona and red stripe. A handful of TVs to watch sports. The staff is incredibly friendly and go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and enjoying yourself.
Enjoyed my visit here. Although they didn’t have the mussels when I was there, I tried the Greek salad with shrimp. Totally enjoyed. My friend had the shrimp and catfish ant totally loved it. We shared some collard greens but those were a little disappointing. Seemed a little undercooked and wasn’t seasoned like I like them. The staff was very friendly snd welcoming. I would go back again.
Weekend brunch opens at 12pm strictly. When the shades are pulled up the place is open. Nice space. We were seated at a big table since there were 5 of us. The staff were nice and the music was great. The place filled up quickly and got very loud which was fine. Food was pretty good. The mimosa carafe was $48 but tasted pretty good. Portion size was on the smaller side compared to other restaurants. Red velvet pancakes were not bad. The fish and grits were really good. The fried chicken was really good.
I love this place. Someone took me here for my birthday. Such a great choice. I had jerk chicken wings with a side of mac n cheese. The chicken was so tender n the mac was flavorful. You can taste the gouda 😋 the Rum punch was raved for but if you are a strong drinker, it would be considered weak to you. Me on the other hand is a light drinker so it snuck up on me and I had only one drink and had a buzz. Atmosphere was great. The waitress n server was bomb and respectful. Looking forward to going back in the near future. BTW: music was on point as well and they gave me a dessert(didn't get a chance to eat it 😔) and sung happy birthday to me. It was cute. Overall great experience.
Oh man, the food was very good and the bartender/waiter was great!! I would've given the restaurant 5stars but the wait times are long. I didn't have reservations though but next time I will definitely make reservations. All I have to say it was definitely worth the wait!! The chicken wings and the ribs were delicious!!!! Can we talk about the grits?!!! One of the best grits in a very long time yummo it was so creamy and tasty!! I can't forget about the macaroni and cheese!!! It was worth $13!!! AMAZING!! I highly recommend Soco!! I can't wait to return back.
We went there for Sunday brunch. It opens at 12pm on the dot. It's a little tight in there but they make the most of the space. The food presentation was magnificent. We had the lobster/shrimp and grits, the sweet potato pancakes and the chicken and red velvet waffles. The pancakes were just ok but everything else was exceptional. The service was good. Our waiter Rob, was attentive and kept us updated with the progress of out food. Cool spot.
Went here after the nets game. Has an "A" rating from the city. Ordered ( Sunday brunch-all day) herb flank steak - a little tough, but delicious and cooked perfectly, lobster and shrimp grits ( fabulous), mac n cheese ( yummy) , fish n chips ( very good), and red velvet waffle with fried chicken ( delicious)! WAit staff was very good and friendly. A total recommend! They have an enclosed patio that is heated also. Really enjoyed this place. Cocktails good too!
Took my daughter to do BRUNCH. The atmosphere is great! The service was good. My order the Blacked salmon was GREAT! My daughter ordered the Steak and eggs,,,,NOT so good. She sent the steak back due to being overdosed and it came back Tougher than before!!!! Overall the experience was disappointing
I will not be back, I am so sorry. My bbq chicken dish was horrible, please see the picture with the 2 tone cold mash potatoes. The red lemonade drink was also not so good. It was a true disappointment. The wings were okay, but a little burnt. Update: I went back and I will give an honest update. My drink was okay this time, but not a HIT. The dishes today were good, just the chicken a little undercooked. Didn't order that mash dish again but this time was better than the last in terms of the happiness regarding my food, lol.
The food was REALLY GOOD not gonna hold them but The food was a tad bit pricey chicken and waffle and one lemonade $40 no refill. the bartender she was doing the best she could so I can’t even fault her because it was maybe two servers… I am very big on first impressions and theirs was really horrible I was standing at the counter waiting for the hostess for a good five minutes before anybody ever acknowledged that I was standing there and when The guy did he just walked up to me and was just like come back at 2:30, as you can see from the previous comment they are closed at 2:30… So I asked come back? he was like Well we are busy how many parties are with you and I said only me and he let me sit at the counter maybe 10 minutes later a couple came in and just sat down and was served right away?!! foolishness
We came here one evening to see what the hype was about. We didn't make reservations but the wait wasn't too bad, about 20 mins. The receptionist I felt was a bit rude when we came to ask for a table. Nonetheless, we sat down and quickly ordered our food to avoid the rush. We ordered the mac and cheese, lobster/shrimp and grits and the chicken and waffles. The mac and cheese was the highlight of the night, i did not expect such a creamy and cheesy mac. Probably one the best mac and cheeses I have had in a soul food / Cajun joint in a long time. My chicken and waffles was good but nothing beyond extraordinary. The grits were cooked well and the seafood tasted fresh. After the whole meal, the only memorable dish was the mac and cheese. Overall, I think because we weren't greeted well, the bad taste lingered and the food didn't taste as great as we hoped.
Great, attentive service but pretty forgettable food. The deviled eggs with crispy chicken skin sounded really good but the flavors weren't super well-balanced. Too spicy with no real savory taste from the chicken skin. The steak was just fine - a little tough but perfectly edible. Overall, the place was a little dark and loud.
I probably wouldn’t come back. I came here for a group brunch, about 11 of us and the food was sub par at best. The wings were flavorless, the salmon was undercooked and the French toast was oh so sweet. The Mac and cheese was good though. The waiter didn’t really make herself open to revive feedback or comments. The menu was also very over priced. The waiter also tried to charge us for an extra meal that never came to the table.
Though the staff were very friendly and accommodating (especially after the heat had been blasted to such an uncomfortable level that both myself and those in my party could no longer continue eating)The skirt steak wasn't the best quality and the sangria tasted mostly like punch. The red velvet waffle was... OK. Nothing I'd travel all the way to Brooklyn for. But the fried chicken and Mac and cheese were so good it could almost balance out the experience.
I have been going here for years it haven't been since covid, we ordered the Catfish app which was so delicious, practically melted in my mouth after a very satisfying crunch. Next week got the red velvet chicken and waffles (which at one point this dish was what they were known for) well after pouring a very thick cold syrup over my chicken and waffle, (some would argue with me, but I don't care I love syrup on my chicken when in eating those dishes, which is much favorite go too) I first cut into the waffle and it seems good but when I put it in my mouth I was not happy, it was very dense and chewy, and then I asked my daughter so you think they changed the recipe, well for starters it was nown2 square waffle as opposed to the round Belgium waffle I was used too. So when the lovely young lady came to ask about our experience so far, I hesitated but then explained the situation to her, she asked if I wanted another set, I declined, a few moments later when came out with a waffle that was better but still not good enough. I tried to eat it but just couldn't, but on the other hand the chicken was superb, well seasoned just enough crunch for the meal and the portion was great as I didn't even eat the waffles. The drinks were very refreshing too. We had flavored lemonade that tasted like they took the fruit and muddled it eight into the glass, very delicious. I joked with my dining buddy, this was our punishment for going to get chicken and waffles after our gym workout. 😆 p.s we had the place all too our selves 💜
Our group of 3 arrived around 2:15PM for Saturday brunch and were seated within 5 minutes in the "outdoor" area, which is really a covered back patio. It was nice and toasty on a chilly autumn day. Service was pretty slow, we waited about 20 minutes to receive our drink orders and another 15 minutes for the champagne glass for one of us who ordered a mimosa carafe. It took 3 requests before the glass was finally brought to the table. The Mardi Gras drink was absolutely delicious! The food however, was just ok. One of my friends asked for her scrambled eggs to be cooked soft, but either the request was ignored or the chef wasn't familiar with soft scrambled eggs. The steak in my steak and eggs were cooked to medium perfection though. The home fries that accompany the steak and eggs were mediocre and I personally think sweet potatoes would have been a better choice. Overall, I was not impressed and would probably only come back for drinks (and to try that macaroni and cheese).
I went to this restaurant many years ago and had a phenomenal experience so I was excited to bring my family who were visiting from out of town to have the same experience. We did not. The food was good but took over an hour to come out when the restaurant only had 3 other smaller parties. We were a party of 8. We were actually celebrating my sister’s birthday. They seemed to be extremely understaffed as we noticed that the team took forever to bring our utensils after we received our food - which was backwards. They seemed to be scrambling. A few people in our party did not love the food experience. No special accommodations for the birthday girl or to accommodate the many service issues we experienced. The level of service just wasn’t there. The owner and staff member were kind but seemed completely overwhelmed with the workload as I think only 3 people total were working at the restaurant. My overall issue was the level of service as I understand things happen, but there is never a good excuse for poor customer service.
This place's favorite word is NO. We had a party of about 10-12 and we asked to be seated together they refused stating the only way they can accommodate us is if we order off of a prefixed menu. They wanted force us to order from that menu. We asked for a bunless burger they said no. We asked for a certain chicken selection they said NO. The waiter apologized stating they are a very strict restaurant. The food is good but not good enough for all the hassle
New Review 9/29/24: Soco has fallen off. I went on Sunday afternoon and it was severely understaffed. The waiter said multiple times he was new but the food took well over an hour to come out. The handed is chipped plates for our appetizers. Sad to say the owner was mixed the drinks because there was no bartender. The food was okay but after a long wait it's hard to be happy with what you get. This was once a go to spot to have good food and vibes. I hope they are able to bounce back. Old Review: The staff is friendly. Fish and grits as well as the mussels were very tasty.
I had the hibiscus tequila margarita👍🏾. That drink was excellent. For appetizers we had salmon cakes👍🏾and Creole gumbo👎🏾. For dinner we had the bbq chicken 👎🏾 and the Cajun fettuccine pasta with shrimp and sausage👍🏾(the sausage was dry and over done. The staff was very nice. The decor was lacking. I was expecting a boho chic atmosphere but it was not. This restaurant was recommended to us but we do not plan to go back.
I paid $78 for horrible take-out food. I inquired about their Prix Fixe menu, but was told it doesn't exist. I requested a menu to take out. I was told they are too expensive to print and give away. I ordered vegetarian lasagna. The cheese was burned to a crisp on top. The gumbo was a disgrace. It contained three shrimp, no chicken, no andouile, no dirty rice (just plain rice in the same container--tacky). It lacked taste but was extremely hot and not in a good way. It contained copious amounts of corn. Why? Was this a filler to stretch this lackluster overpriced dish? I ordered the macaroni and cheese., "Aunt Cruz' macaroni and cheese" to be exact. Horrible. Simply cooked noodles with cheese just thrown on top. It was extremely bland. So much title for a poorly prepared dish. I had a craving for okra and tomatoes--my main reason for (mistakenly) frequenting this establishment. The only favor profile of this undercooked dish was garlic. The tomatoes were not even cut properly nor was the okra, both were uncooked. How disappointing. Lastly, I ordered the smoked vegetable flatbread. It was quite delicious. I traveled all the way from Bedford Stuyvesant and it was a wasted trip. I had to remind the staff to give me my receipt and my credit card. They were a tad chaotic, albeit very pleasant. I hate to give such nice people a bad review. Hopefully, it will help them step up to continue doing business in a better manner.

I don’t leave reviews often but this restaurant was more than disappointing. To start, when we asked the waiter for water we were met with a very passive aggressive response which I didn’t find necessary. We waited over an hour for food and were told by a worker it would only be “five more minutes”. To end the night, the group I was with split the check, and the waiter lost the credit card of one of my friends. For a $30+ for three pieces of chicken and a waffle, I don’t think we received the service we paid for. The server introduced himself but disappeared right after that, not really sure what was up with that. The food uh- fine, but the experience was not worth the mediocrity that the evening was.
Me and my wife decided to take my oldest son here for his 22nd birthday, we heard great things about this place. The food was not amazing it wasn’t even okay I had lobster Shrimp and grits lobster was not fully prepared and my youngest son he 16 all he like to eat is burgers,so when I seen that he only took two bite I tried it,the burger felt like Soggy meatloaf I must say I was highly disappointed in this restaurant for a family of four spending $200 to go out to eat and riding two hours there and back. It was a total disappointment for me.
Let me say I never leave reviews, but my experience was so horrendous. The restaurant has fell from Grace. there was only one waiter for the entire restaurant. The owner doubled as the bartender with drinks that at best was subpar my party and I ordered margaritas that came in a shot glass and the owner had the audacity to say that’s how he serves them. The white sangria taste like a powder orange drink mix disgusting. We also ordered catfish bites that looked as if he took one catfish and cut it up into six pieces if the restaurant owner can no longer afford to service his customers he should close horrible.!!!
I've been here so many times in the last 6yrs. But im not sure ill be going back. I called my order in, asked for Jambalaya and Fried Chicken with waffles. Waited in my car outside the restaurant, spent almost $60 and my jambalaya was ruined. Usually in the past it was packed in a plastic container with a lid. Why would someone put a dish with sauce in this small container with a hole in it. So of course I got home and all my sauce spilled out. Called the restaurant 7x, left vm no answer. Sent a email, week later no reply. Extremely unprofessional and ill probably dispute part of the bill with my bank since they won't handle the matter. But I don't want dry Jambalaya especially not at these prices.
My experience here was horrible. I’ve been here maybe 3 times prior. The service is always bad but the food is amazing so that’s the only reason I go back. This last time (yesterday) I went & there was a manager , heavy set who ended up being the server for my table. Why? Because the waitress that was supppsed to wait on my table didn’t want to because the last time I came I didn’t tip. So yesterday she seen my girlfriend & I and automatically let the manager know she didn’t want to wait on the table. We didn’t care who waited on the table we just want the food that we paying for. The food came out and looked like someone ate off the plate before I got it, but before the food came the wait was more than 50 minutes just to place an order. Then to get a little tap water in a fancy bottle took another 30 mins. This experience was horrible and I’ll only be ordering out from here so they can’t see my face & wont beg for a tip when on days I may not have extra money. Plus they charged me a $3 credit card surcharge when I paid cash for the meal. They were going to sneak their tip on one way or another. Sad.
If I could give 0 stars I would waited at least 30 minutes for a burger and salad and the place wasn't even crowded. I mentioned it to my server she smirked so rude. Secondly if you are charging a surcharge for credit card use post it. I saw it when I received my bill now I don't mind paying a surcharge but at least let me know up front. They also have the nerve to charge for cheese on a $19 burger. My salad was supposed to be a Greek salad which lacked the cucumbers and olives. Needless to say I won't be returning.
During the “shut down” I spent MANY dollars here. Your smoked BBQ chicken was my Favorite. But I ordered w/out the sides cause I prepare my own veggies. For 3yrs it was NEVER a problem until tonight. After I called in my order, told to be there in 20min, I show up but order is not ready & told to come back. I already paid too. I return and told I CAN’T get the chicken anymore w/out sides & given my money back. You lost a longtime customer and will make sure that neighbors NEVER patronize your place. In this economy it ain’t wise to be a jerk to longtime customers. Now I see why you can’t keep staff. Deuces
Went to eat with a friend & was immediately irritated as soon as I walked through the door! From the greeter to the waitress the customer service is horrible. I ordered mussels which were AMAZING omg, split the Mac & cheese I heard so much about with a friend which was OKAY it’s not the hype everyone puts on it, the waitress suggested string beans which were gross n she was kind enough to have them taken off the bill. I had the shrimp & lobster grits they give about 4 large shrimp & HALF of a lobster tale for $35 and it was okay but definitely not worth $35 at all $25 would be a better price for that dish. My friend had the chicken & red velvet waffle she didn’t touch the waffle n when I tried it I regretted it. The bathroom was atrocious! Grout & mildew built up on the sink the soap was extra watered down as if the restaurant couldn’t spend 99 cents on hand soap. It was dirty & the restaurant wasn’t even busy. I would NEVER spend my own money in that place but if someone offered I’d definitely take the mussels TO GO!!
I’m sorry but I have to give this black owned restaurant such a bad review. On the menu it says 1/2 chicken, string beans, and mashed potato’s. When the meal comes out it’s only a quarter chicken with two sides. I ask Mauricsia the manager about it and she simply says it’s a misprint. Nothing like let me make it right since it’s written. Nope! There for a birthday and we ask since the miss print can we at least get the birthday boy a dessert on the house. Manager again, says absolutely not they need to be charged. This is why people stop frequenting black establishments because you don’t know how to treat patrons for your own missteps. I will not visit again and I urge people to choose other black owned restaurants. However, Elijah the bartender was awesome and attentive and made great drinks.
