We were the only people eating in late afternoon on a rainy Tuesday. Great mixed fish as starters with seafood paella as mains. Quantity substantial, tastes great. Washed down with margarita. The only thing I would say was the paella was a little too salty. But service was great and we all liked it.

Solo he desayunado dos días, pero la chica que había era una pasada. El primer día lo hacía todo. Espero que el local sea suyo, porque sinó seguro que está mal pagado. El almuerzo de tostadas con tomate y jamón, con café con leche, muy buenos. Bien hechos y buena cantidad. Desayunar dos personas por menos de 10 €, con tres tostadas para los dos, muy bien.

Un buen restaurante ubicado en el puerto pesquero de Calpe, bastante amplio y luminoso. La comida está bastante bien tanto arroces como raciones, suelen tener un menú entre 20 y 30€ muy completo con 3 entradas y paella ( van variando). En principio suelen trabajar con pescado de la lonja de Calpe (cosa que se agradece que trabajen con productos frescos de Calpe) y en general la comida está muy bien. También decir que alguna vez la paella no estaba del todo bien pero lo dicho en general se suele comer bastante bien. El arroz del senyoret es una de sus especialidades,muy rico, y me gustó mucho también las croquetas y la fritura de pescado.

Comimos cuatro personas, de menú tres entradas, ensalada, calamares, pescaitos fritos, y pulpo, todo bien elaborado y raciones abundantes, de segundo había arroz del seynoret también muy bueno, en su punto, los postres caseros, tiramisú y helado de turrón con vino pedro Ximenez delicioso. La verdad que la calidad precio es muy buena 110€ los 4. Los tiempos entre plato y plato excelentes, esperamos lo justo, muy rápido todo, no le doy 5 estrellas porque se trata de un menú del día y no nos salimos de él. Tampoco se puede pedir a un menú la calidad de una carta pero casi. Desde luego pienso volver y comer a la carta los mejores platos que tengan, que si es de la misma calidad seguro les voy a conceder mis exigentes 5 estrellas. El servicio muy amable, a pesar que se llenó el restaurante y no daban a basto no perdían la sonrisa. Seguid así.

Restaurante con buena comida, estaba todo muy rico. El único inconveniente, por el que no doy las 5 estrellas, es porque pedimos arroz caldoso con bogavante y nos trajeron arroz meloso de pulpo. Aunque no era lo que pedimos, nos lo comimos por no esperar de nuevo y tirar ese arroz. A pesar del error, estaba muy rico y el restaurante es amplio y cómodo.

La Baydal: Calpe Harbour . The food of Calpe has a distinct flavour that of the sea. The sea food and fresh fish from the days catch are the main dishes prepared by the kitchens. The best idea, is to walk along the harbour seeing all the fresh fish displayed in cold cabinets along with the prices. Look for the fish with the brightest eyes. The prices are very similar at the different restaurants. ( Though Baydal is the best of the lot). So just look for what you want to eat. The choice is yours from a single large sole or fresh tuna steak to a mixture of Prawns, Langoustines, Mussels, whitebait, Oysters & Razor clams a big mixed plate, for up to 6 to 8 people. If you’re really hungry, do try as a starter (Sopa Pescado). Spain’s, answer to French Bouillabaisse. Absolutely delicious. Or try the Arroz de Senoret. Which is rice cooked with seafood paella style. You will be offered a free glass of Sangria. While, you are deciding, which restaurant to choose. That is, one from each restaurant. Don’t take to many before you make your decision. To ensure a good appetite. Before your meal, maybe take a walk around the left side of the harbour past the fishing boats and along the walkway, underneath the Penon de Ifach. The Big Mountain. For any good walkers. You can walk to the top (3 Hrs there and back). Thru a hand carved tunnel. But best save it for another day. Prices. Well it depends on what you eat. From Benidorm. Go North on the N332 to Altea then Calpe. Drive into the town until you are near the big mountain. Follow the signs for the harbour/Porte. Calpe has some of the best and safest beaches in the Costa. Worth going another time, just for a swim and bronzing in the sun. (About 20 Km from Benidorm)

Fui a comer a este restaurante con grandes expectativas debido a la recomendación sobre el arroz al senyoret, según me dijeron restaurante donde se originó este tipo de paella. Sin embargo, al principio, ya empezamos regular con los camareros, vinieron 3 distintos a pedir la bebida. Por favor tener en cuenta que sirven pan y alioli de primeras sin pedirlo, pero ojo que te lo cobran! Así que es mejor indicar desde el principio si no lo quieres. Personalmente, considero que este tipo de estrategias para aumentar la factura final en 2-3€ no son apropiadas, ya que dan una mala impresión al turismo extranjero. Tienen un menú por 24€ que incluye ensalada, pescado frito y paella. No está incluida la bebida (ni agua) Echando cuentas te sale rentable ya que el resto de la carta incluye varios tipos de paellas pero es importante mencionar que no te permiten pedir otras variedades de arroces por mesa. Y mínimo sirven paella para dos personas (así que cobran 2x15€). La comida en general estuvo bien, contundente aunque la paella estaba un poco salada para mi gusto. En resumen, mi recomendación sería explorar otras opciones que puedan ofrecer una experiencia más satisfactoria por el mismo precio.

Menú de arroz del senyoret, precio razonable. Las entradas muy buenas: pulpo a la gallega, pescado frito variado, realmente bueno, y una ensalada variada. Esta parte del servicio funcionó muy bien. El restaurante estaba lleno y el arroz tardó mucho en salir, además tenia aspecto de haber sido rematado en el horno y estaba pasado de punto, aunque de sabor bueno. Desde luego no fue el mejor día. La próxima vez a ver si tengo más suerte con el arroz.

We took rouget and kingfish along with mussels. The dishes were good and the service was friendly . However they charged us 10 euros for bread. This is scandalous as they said in their menu 1.85 euros for bread but apparently it is only for a tiny piece. So we paid 110 euros for 5 people. It is a shame to charge so much for bread

We went there as our reception reccomendet it as best fish place in Calpe. We arrived and it was empty. Service was friendly but overall food quality was discreat and not what u would expect from a place considered the best. I would not reccomend or repeat! Spent 93€ for 3 people.

Starters were great but the house speciality was full of bones! Given that monk fish is the easiest fish to bone (one bone) we didn't expect any at all - so it was either not monk fish or a careless …

Fuimos por recomendación, pero nada más entrar solo tenían 4 mesas con la nuestra ya que llegamos pronto. Pedimos un entrante y un arroz del señoret. El entrante salió relativamente rápido, pero de ahí al arroz tardaron como 50 minutos habiendo tan solo 10 personas en el restaurante. Luego se fue llenando un POCO más y el caos fue terrible, camareros corriendo de un lado a otro sin organización, todos iban a todo y al final todas las mesas desatendidas, gente enfadada levantándose a pagar porque se cansaban de esperar, no tomaban nota de los postres ni de los cafés ya que nadie llevaba el control de las mesas, en fin un desastre y una mala experiencia, más aún si cabe cuando te cobran 5 € por una cerveza de barril, que no llegaba ni a un doble, y te sacan una tarrina de alioli de plástico con un miserable trocito de pan. No vuelvo, creo que hay sitios mucho mejores en Calpe donde comer. Tengo que decir que el arroz estaba bastante bueno; pero lo único positivo.

La comida era bastante cutre por llamarlo de alguna forma. Mejillones al vapor enanos y sabían a pescado muchísimo. Les preguntamos si los cocían con algo porque de verdad que parecía que estaban hechos con caldo de pescado y nos dijeron que no, solo al vapor. No estaban nada buenos. Los calamares muy pequeños también pero bueno aceptables de sabor. Y los salmonetes más o menos. Ningún plato estaba rico verdaderamente.

Summary: disappointing food for a place that had such a good reputation, but has declined in recent years. My family has been coming to Baydal on and off for decades, and for a long time, it was a favourite of ours. In particular, we loved their swordfish steak (the Emperador), which was always grilled to juicy perfection and came with this delectable olive oil and herb dressing. The rest of the menu was decent too, but oh how things have changed. Recently, we'd noticed that the level of service had declined and the portion sizes of many of the dishes had shrunk. Perhaps the impacts of the pandemic, right? Well, in my visit in May 2023, we called to make a reservation for 7 pm, which the person who answered the phone agreed to. To our surprise, we arrived on time at 7 pm to find that the restaurant didn't open until 7:30 pm. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it is a sign of rudeness and indifference from the staff. The appetizers (Boquerones and Chopitos) were solid, if unspectacular, but to our great disappointment, we discovered that the Emperador, a staple on the menu for as long as I can remember, was no longer there. Disappointed but still eager to enjoy Baydal once more, we shared a meat and vegetable paella instead. That paella was, honestly, woeful. It was bland overall, but the worst aspects of it were the meat and the veg. The meat was chicken and pork on the bone: chewy, tough, flavourless and fatty. It honestly seemed like the meat was boiled. And the veg consisted of four or five small chunks of red pepper and an abundance of flavourless, textureless green beans. We were hungry so we did end up eating most of it, but left a lot of the meat untouched. And that was a 42 euro (!) paella. What a waste. You know that feeling where you've eaten but you still feel unsatisfied? We all left with that feeling. As we paid the bill, we realized by then that we sadly wouldn't be returning to Baydal. Perhaps ever again. There's a much better place a short walk up the road called El Cantal. You're better off there.

No sé por dónde empezar …. Una buena pista que no supe captar, fue que solo éramos 2 mesas con comensales . Hace años, muchos … frecuentaba este restaurante con mis padres, nada de aquella época permanece PESIMA nueva experiencia, arroz mal hecho, calidad nefasta en todos los productos …. Y cada copa de vino al módico precio de 4,30€, ni en la calle Serrano de Madrid es tan csro NO RECOMENDABLE para nostálgicos y para nadie en general

The food was quite literally inedible. We ordered various types of fish, both fried and grilled, and nothing tasted good, quality of the fish was very questionable. The aperol spritz tasted like cheap prosecco with a hint of orange. I would not recommend going there even if your only other option were bar snacks in the nearby chiringuito. P.S. the personnel are nice P.P.S. in response to the owner. That you took time to respond shows that you care about your business, so allow me to offer further details which, if you actually take on board, could help improve the experience, at least for me: 1. The fried fish was extremely dry, clearly overcooked, there was no meat left on the fish. I would enjoy the fish if it was cooked correctly. 2. The accompanying potatoes were very clearly cooked the day before, stored overnight in the fridge and re-heated before serving. You cannot mistake the taste and texture of cooked refrigerated potatoes. If served freshly cooked, they would probably taste better and not have the soapy texture that they did. 3. Had we been told upon ordering our aperol spritz - a drink with a highly recognizable taste profile - that it would be made with an extremely dry cava, thus changing the flavours completely- I assure you we would have thanked the waiter, asked for beer instead and likely enjoy our drinks very much. 4. My partner offered me a bite of the octopus tentacle and I had to chew it 85 times before I could swallow the food. And the reason I know that is because we actually had a little competition on who could chew through it quicker. I lost - he only had to chew 76 times. Now, I may not know the exact recipe your chefs use for their pulpo a la gallega but I do know that if you have to chew it like gum, it's not the right recipe. We ate in here as a group of 8. As stated before in reviews the bread was not complimentary. We thought this strange but prepared to overlook as menu and food looked good. However, they had a strange policy of only one type of paella dish allowed per table. 4 of us wanted one type and 2 wanted a different which they would not allow. We asked if we could split our bill into two tables of 4 to which we were rudely and abruptly told No! After placing a different order one member of our group's dinner arrived 40 minutes before the remaining seven of us. She had eaten hers before ours arrived as we had a lengthy wait. Twice we had to ask them to hurry with our order as we had a boat to catch. The food was below average, cold and small portions for the price. Also, we accidentally dropped a glass on the floor which was left with smashed glass around us while we ate. We refused to pay the service charge which angered the waiter who kept trying to insist we paid it. He called the manager over, the only nice person working there, who amicably agreed to waiver the charge. Definitely would not recommend this restaurant.
