For starters, we loved our server, who was the bartender. Secondly, the homemade raisin rye rolls were the bomb. I ordered Spanish style mussels - delicious. One of my kids did the chopped salad and the Filet Mignon chili. Both were great. The only complaint would be that their clam chowder was really a potato soup with a few clams thrown in. It seems to be a family recipe so maybe that's just their style.
The boulevardier and vodka martini were not the best but still above average. For food, we had escargot, mussels, steak frites, the top of the hill (seafood pasta), and Dover sole. Crepe Suzette was really boozy, but the brioche bread pudding was amazing. Sometimes you go to a seemingly ordinary restaurant and walk out with an unexpected joy. This is one of those places. We'll certainly be back.
Delicious food and excellent quality. Large array of choices and specials! Very good quality of food and extra staff
The largest prawns I've ever been served in a prawn cocktail!
Excellent bar. Every old school drink you can imagine and the proper glasses to serve them in. The food is always amazing. I think the price is very reasonable for the great quality. Always very clean
It just doesn't get any better than Sly's. The food, the cocktails, the desserts, the staff. Everything is top-notch at this fine restaurant mere blocks from the world's safest beach!
The food is insanely good, and the staff is friendly and helpful! Truly a great pleasure. Don't even consider any bad reviews.
Great amazing fresh and delicious! They are closing on Sept 23rd 2018 per one of the waitresses. The bar set up was the bombbbb!!
One of my favorites since moving back. Great steaks, burgers, fish, and definitely the best mixed drinks in town.
Great place for classy and classic cocktails! Tasty food, too, including a decent vegetarian selection.
Had one of the best steaks of my entire life at Sly's. Unpretentious and the food and service was amazing.
Outstanding service from bartender. Great atmosphere. Definitely a spot to hit when your in Santa Barbara.
The spaghetti carbonera is amazing. Unreal selection of wines up into the $4000+ range.
So Dad this place is closing! Wonderful food and drinks. Excellent service.
We meet here every year with long time friends. Friendly, efficient staff and good food.
Always a pleasure. Excellent food and very good service.
Great food presented in style by a friendly staff.
Amazing clam chowder, salmon sandwich and delicious green salad
Sly's is awesome! One of the waitresses took a while to warm up to us because it is fairly on the fancy side. I am younger and it seems this place attracts a lot of people in their 40's, 50's because of the vibe and the cost for everything. As we kept coming back, she became more friendly. They make a killer pink squirrel! Simple but unique. Their food is also delicious! I really haven't had much French cuisine but I definitely recommend this place! The chef went to France for a few years to learn the traditional cuisine, and I think he does a great job bringing the flavors back! Oh, I also highly recommend the chocolate mousse, it's one of the best I've ever had!
Someone below said it all, It doesn't get better than this. Absolutely perfectly cooked meal. Our group loved every bit. Cooked to perfection. I have eaten in many restaurants but the Doctor I was traveling with has experienced many more and in his words, "this is probably the best stake Ive ever eaten" We would highly recommend Sly's.
Excellent food, great selection and quality. They have bay scallops on the menu and the description claims they are the 'Worlds Best Scallops'...I think they are correct! Best scallops I have ever had anywhere. This is also probably the best steak house in Carpinteria. Also very good deserts. The plain cheesecake is the best around.
Top of the line, right here folks. Sly's is style and they know how to do it. It's worth every penny you put into it. Ordered the Spanish style pound of mussels and creamed spinach, both were excellent. The waiter and rest of the staff knew their stuff. Actually, our main waiter got loaded with tables in his area all at once and other staff immediately stepped in to help. Well organized restaurant experience.
One of the best restaurant in Carpinteria, if not Santa Barbara. "Steaks, seafood, and cocktails" is proclaimed right up on a bright sign out front. Great menu with expensive, but reasonable prices. A full bar and wine cellar keep the restaurant stocked. If you want a great meal in a great atmosphere, this is the place for you.
From start to finish it was superb! The hostess was sweet and very polite, our waitor Michael was well versed on the menu, friendly, funny and attentive. He made great recommendations. The food is second to none! And we have been to some really great restaurants. Absolutely nothing to complain about! Worth every penny! Don't believe the low star reviews! 04.2016 We're back! We stayed in Ventura for the first night of our trip so we could go to Sly's again for dinner. That's how wonderful every bit of this restaurant is! The staff is excellent and is only outdone by every bite and sip! A truly classy, standard all other restaurants should aspire to! Definitely worth saving up for.
Aside from an inviting exterior, the hollandaise sauce was absolutely divine. I usually shy away from any dish with it, but my dining companions had ordered oysters Rockefeller. Beautiful. The crest of the menu was a delight. Thank you.
Delicious menu with items reminiscent of old school haunts. Abilone Benedict for breakfast - unbelievably good. The owner and staff are over-the-top accomadating and efficient. I always go out of my way to include a stop at Sly's for dinner and lunch. Happened to have breakfast there yesterday with an exceptional Bloody Mary.
My boyfriend and I had one of the best meals of our lives. We shared the porterhouse and Nantucket scallops.... to die for. Yum!! Our server Michael was brilliant, we are so excited to come back one day! :)
The food here is amazing and so is the service! It's a must if you're in the area. Plus, they make some fantastic old fashioned cocktails that are delicious.
Why haven't I been here before! OKay, I am only giving 4 stars becasue I have not yet had their food. My husband and I came here after we heard this is the place to get tiki drinks and craft cocktails! The best in town! Well they were right! Refreshing and a wide range to choose from! The food looked amazing but we only stopped by for 1 drink each. We will for sure be coming back! If you are looking for a good tiki style drink or a craft cocktail, this is the pace to go!
Their fillet mignon chili is probably one of the best chili I have ever tried. The desert was so good too.
Solid local restaurant in Carpinteria. Good food, extensive selection and good quality product. Too bad the owners are retiring soon and closing the business
Nice upscale eats. Lots of alcohol to chose from. Smaller portions. Great service.
Terrific food and service with nice ambience. Bit pricy. We' ll save it for special occasions.
Prepare to be AMAZED... and for your wallet to shed a few pounds. Food was excellent, with prices that match.
Great service. Food good, but not as great as I expected for the price. Need to dim the lights a bit.
Expensive but very good. The best mixed drinks in town.
Very good steaks. All items a la carte.
We come here frequently, as it is my father in law's favorite restaurant. While I enjoy the vibe in the bar area, the dining room is pretty basic. The menu (especially breakfast) needs to be updated with some new and different options. I'm not a very big eater, but to me, the portions are quite small. The omlette and the huevos rancheros are tasty, but not enough to fill most people up. I love the throwback cocktails, and still enjoy coming here, but I think it's getting a little tired and needs some fresh energy.
Great place and had working a/c unlike some of the other businesses. My only complaint was I found a large rubberband in my clam chowder. I made light of it to the waitress saying I found their secret ingredient. She took the rubberband from the table, but we didn't get any kind of apology or compensation on the bill or offer to replace the soup. For such a nice place that charges a pretty penny, I would have expected at least an apology from management, and in most places they would comp the soup or offer something else in exchange. Otherwise, all of the other items we had were really great, including the chorizo mussels.
A very nice open air restaurant with a bar inside. The steak that I ordered here was pretty darn good. The only major issue is their is always a huge wait to be seated.
Norm's quality food at unbelievably inflated prices. The steak was bland (even with the green pepper corn sauce) as could possibly be. The fries, equally as underwhelming. I am definitely a sauce guy but, I normally use to accentuate the flavors... Not to mask them. The atmosphere is cool but, it commands a price point that the food, environment, and service in no way deserve. I'd expect much better cuisine for the ask but, unfortunately I was left wanting. ***Try "The Zombie" if you'd like to forget how assuredly forgettable your meal is***
Went to Sly's for the first time, in order to sit at the bar and savor the taste of a Margarita on a hot day. The bartender apparently didn't know how to make a Margarita because what she gave me was bitter tasting and clear colored. It cost $10. Not going there again.
So....expensive! Ridiculous, you get nothing with your main course! You have to purchase all the sides separately. They got our order wrong, and the mashed potatoes were like wallpaper paste.
I think the restaurant had a problem this last Sunday for brunch. Food was mediccre and the staff was having breakfast as we came in. Usually not this way.
We were charged three dollars for sharing a plate that we're not aware of. When I ordered the escargot for an appetizer the waitress just casually mentioned that because your entree would not arrived in a timely manner that maybe we would like to "share"our appetizer. I just nod my head and said okay. I would have come back to that restaurant if we weren't charged for sharing a plate. The food was not spectacular besides the fact that they advertised of an 1500 degrees broiler.
Bad food, was not cooked properly when asked for well done lamb that cost $50. Alfredo pasta did not even have Alfredo sauce it was yellow and watery
I would never go back to Sly's in Carpinteria. The food made me sick. The steak smelled of animal waste. I tried to politely call back the next day to tell them what had happened and they said i was just trying to get something for nothing. i wanted to warn them most of all that their food was off. The dessert was freezer burned and inedible as well, which i did mention that night, but was to embarrassed to mention the steak until it made me ill.It made 3 of us sick. The way it was handled by the owners that upset me the most. They were rude and short tempered on the phone and didn't call me back for days, i had to call them. I have lived in Santa Barbara for 30 years. I have eaten at Sly's several times and usual had a decent meal, but theres not a lot of choices in Carp. The only good beef is the grass fed from Ojai. I forgot to ask specifically for that, thinking it was all grass fed. I went with the waitresses rec. for the smallest steak, which turned out to be the most expensive steak(which she didn't tell me) on the menu and tasted terrible. So..the costumer is definitely not right there..they make sure of that, and let you know..DONT EAT AT SLYS
What a bad place,,, They literally have no idea how to cook. Pasta was extremely over salted and not eatable. A very small dish was for 14$ honestly it not worth 5$. Worst food place ever.
Bone in rib eye was no where near a 56 dollar steak
We had reservations around 5:00. After an hour and fifteen minutes, the waiter came and asked if we were ready for our tab. We hadn't even been served! This was a special occasion. Ruined as everyone made excuses except to admit they forgot to submit our order. On top of that, they forgot to bring us bread. Never asked for a drink re-order. What a disaster. We respectively left a message for the owner and they never returned our call.
