Bar Avec is a great rooftop bar! I also enjoy being greeted by their famous metal horse in the lobby. Some say if you whisper wishes into the horses ear, they come true! 🤞

The view from the rooftop is stunning. Would recommend coming here closer to the sunset so you avoid the high heat, and you can see beautiful views. Food was good, would recommend the fried chicken bucket, but nothing really impressed me

The staff here was incredible especially the tall curly haired incrediBOSS in charge. Got her name… forgot her name, it was something from a book of legend. But, I digress. The lively and lovely staff , were so sweet , I’ll be back soon!

Nice cozy place. Located on the 8th floor. Covered rooftop so we did not feel cold although outside temp had dropped to 60s. Excellent service. Ordered bourbon and falafel seasoned fries. Bourbon was a good strong drink. 🥃👌 Good vibes and view of downtown buildings. Went downstairs for a dinner after the drink. Recommended.

Love when bar avec is open for the summer. Great views, good food and good wine make this one of my most recommended Chicago rooftops. The staff is always very friendly and attentive when I’ve visited. Oh and the Monday burger special is fire!!!

Visited for a private event the day before a wedding and was very impressed by the friendly staff who were on top of it. Cocktails and freshly made pizza were great. The view was also amazing. 🙌

Visited Bar Avec for brunch and it was awesome! Shakshuka, French Toast, Dates, and Lamb burger were fantastic! Highly recommend this restaurant

The food was absolutely incredible! I highly recommend the braised lamb shoulder calzone - you get so much lamb, so it’s a great deal for $28! Also probably the best lamb I’ve ever had. Our waiter Kyle was also SO sweet and took incredible care of us. We will definitely come back!!

I had a great experience at Bar Avec in River North! Our server, Steph, was fantastic—super friendly and hilarious, making our night even more enjoyable. She was also incredibly quick with our food, which was delicious. Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area, and be sure to ask for Steph if you want amazing service with a side of humor!

We celebrated a couple of birthdays and a going away at Bar Avec. We tried the charcuterie board, olives, skirt steak, and a few of their cocktails. Great selection and great views of the city. Big thank you to our server, Michael. He took great care of us and we appreciated it very much. Definitely will be back.

A fantastic venue with exceptionally beautiful views. Two of us recently went here for some non alcoholic drinks. We had phony negroni & lust for life lite and both of those were very tasty. We haven't had any food, so I cannot comment on that. If you are out and about in Chicago and want to experience spectacular views whilst having a drink/chat, this place should be in your list 👍 Thanks

Visited with my colleagues on a work trip to Chicago and really enjoyed the experience. The view and atmosphere make for a great casual hangout. We ordered one large plate and a handful of appetizers including fries, crostini, octopus, artichoke, and roast fish. Of them all, the roast fish large plate was the most memorable. It was seasoned perfectly with the right amount of crisp. To wash down the bites, we ordered a few rounds of cocktails. A table favorite was one that included hibiscus, which made the drink a bright pink. The cocktails were well-balanced, fusing flavors without losing the essence of the base liquor. Overall, a memorable experience. If you’re okay paying a little extra for the view, give it a go.

Food was tasty but not extraordinary. The oysters were delish but the beef tartare was mediocre - great bread though! Come for the view and the cocktails.

The place is really nice but everything here was very hard and difficult to stay comfortable on due to everything being wooden or metal seating with no type of cushions at all. Unlike Godfrey, which has similar and maybe better views that has very comfortable seating

overall a great spot for a date night or for good views of the city. But be prepared to spend a decent amount of money for a drink or two. They dont have the whiskey or the whiskey prices on the menu, so make sure to ask what the cost is for those drinks if you decide to get them.

We came for mocktails and the view was really beautiful. It wasn’t busy when we came (late afternoon on a weekday), but I imagine it gets full at weekends so best to book. We enjoyed the mocktails (lust for life life, phony negroni), but it would be nice to have a few more options on the menu. Mocktail serving could also have been a bit larger for the price. The service was ok but not particularly friendly. Thank you!

Definitely a mixed experience here! Great service and beautiful atmosphere. A perfect place to get drinks with friends and family or to celebrate a special occasion. The food was a little of a let down, nothing was particularly bad but also nothing that stood out to us. For the prices, the portions were very small (pizza is a very small flatbread) and there was nothing special about the food to us that made the prices justified. Would maybe come back here for drinks and social events but will not be coming here specifically for the food.

This is a good rooftop for drinks and views. The food, however, is not great here. While it's good quality, the flavors don't go well together. I was told the best thing here is the pizza, but they didn't have any of it left that day in addition to a couple of other menu items. In general, I would give this place another chance, but I would go after I ve had dinner just for a few drinks and the view.

Great views and the airy rooftop is wonderful on a summer day. We came here for lunch on a Friday and it wasn’t crowded at all. If you are hungry then this is probably not a place to get full on if the intent is to try and share a few dishes without breaking the bank. I didn’t think the menu had a variety of choices though my other friends seemed to enjoy the selections. I’m not big on raw meats, and only had the chilled shrimp as a protein option that’s cooked. Again the menu seemed pretty limiting for a Mediterranean inspired restaurant, but my friends seemed ok with the choices. The restaurant also didn’t have iced tea nor hot tea. The crispy artichokes were definitely my favorite small dish that we got. For some reason the napkins they gave me all had dirt stains on them, I asked for another one and that napkin also had dirt stains.

Location is great. Sitting on the eight floor with nice views. Service was quite poor. Starting with the first words out of the waiter’s mouth being that they had a lot of reservations so we had a limited time to dine. Followed by inconsistent delivery of food items. Mushrooms and onions were great. Good chicken and crudo. Horrible vegetable paella with overcooked rice, overly thick sauce and overwhelming cheese. Maybe go for drinks and appetizers, catch the view and finish dinner elsewhere.

Decent experience. Topped by the view. Service was a bit slow. 25 min for an order of fries. Drinks took about 20 min. 52 bucks for 2 drinks and fries, which were over seasoned. Serving food boards way past acceptable for a high-end place. Probably won't be back.

Great view, the three drinks we had were good, not too special. The server was very nice, I would give her five stars, but the hostess wasn’t very friendly at all. Mostly on her phone, and not very prepared, not great hospitality on her part. She doesn’t have a great attitude at all, and ruined our experience there unfortunately. Very loud as well, not easy to talk at all.

I was pretty disappointed with this spot. From the description and the association with the avec name it seemed like an airy, romantic spot for great drinks and food inspired by coastal Spain. In practice, my husband and I couldn't wait to pay our bill and leave to go somewhere else. My main qualm with this spot is that it can't seem to decide what it's going for. The food and prices suggest fine dining but the blaring early 2000s R&B was completely at odds with that. Don't get me wrong, I love a good party atmosphere, but not from a nice bar/restaurant where I'm looking to have a conversation with my partner. To make matters worse, the service was bizarre. Our waitress was great and it didn't seem like her fault, but all of our food (snack, app, entree) were brought out at the same time onto a small table so we had to start with the entree so it wouldn't get cold. Were they trying to get rid of us faster? I'm not sure. I will say that the food was good and the drinks were pretty good as well. However this spot needs to spend a little more time honing in on what they're going for to be successful.

This is a lovely venue but overpriced. I ordered two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc ($21 each!) and a hummus shareable plate. The bill was more than $80. It's like they don't realize how much competition is Downtown. The waiter actually took away my unfinished glass of overpriced wine when I wasn't looking!

$32 for air fryer chicken nuggets and french fries. Insane! Do NOT go there if looking to eat, the food might have buzz words in their descriptions, but it’s really just freezer food. Waiter was also pretty odd, made weird comments and kept staring at our table. Made me uncomfortable, like I was a little kid with a stern parent. This place could be good to go to share a bottle of wine, but other than that, I’d recommended passing for somewhere else.

2 stars because the drinks were pretty good and the view was nice! The ambiance was also super good. The issue was that 1) even though we had a reservation we had to sit at the bar for 20 minutes waiting on a table which had a separate check from our main table and 2) and most importantly we paid $24 for a cheese plate that was actually hilariously small and looked like something I would throw together at 2 am. There were approximately 4 slices of cheese and the bread wasn’t even sliced. The crumbs we were served did taste good though!

Very disappointing experience at a rooftop location with so much potential. I do want to start by saying that the girl at the ground level was super polite and helpful and separate from the over all rating she gets 5 stars from me. Wife and I finally had a free afternoon and decided to check out this new spot. The rooftop is a perfect spot for drinks and get together with friends unfortunately it falls short on the whole experience. The drinks we ordered were priced accordingly to the area but had no garnish and were filed 3/4 of the way. Just to clarify, I don’t expect my drink to be filled to the rim but 7/8 without garnish is a norm. Food selection is absolutely unacceptable. Cheap, quick to make food items are offered at a premium. The part that upsets me the most happened at the end. Our waitress showed up with a portable card terminal and requested payment without presenting a copy of the check to me. Of course, 3% surcharge was on the final bill which is unacceptable and for all of you reading this review not a mandatory fee. ASK THEM TO TAKE THAT OFF. This place has so much potential but it needs serious improvement by a professional restaurant manager and not some club promoter

Pathetic cheese plate for $25 coupled with slow/bad service. Looks like something that you could get at a dive bar not an upscale Mediterranean bar. Drinks took 20+ minutes. Server was rushing when taking our order and provided poor recommendations. Ok view and vibe but overall not worth it. Puts a shadow on the Avec vibe.

Really disappointing experience- we love the Avec restaurant, but upon arriving at our reservation at Bar Avec, we waited 20 minutes at our table before being waited on (we notified them multiple times kindly that no one had come by), and then took an addition 20 minutes to make one round of drinks for four people. The waitress apologized and offered to comp our first round of cocktails, however did not take them off of our final bill. When I reached out to two email addresses provided on their voicemail and website to discuss what happened, both emails bounced back with an error code. Do not come here! Very very shady.
