I used to work on Michigan Ave, and for a long time this place had been on my list of places to try. I brought my husband here as we were in the area and I finally said let's give it a try. We were able to be seated right away without a reservation, but I would recommend getting a reservation regardless. Our service, I forgot his name, was amazing, just overall personable and attentive. The place was tucked inside an office building, so from outside it didn't look like much, but inside there was plenty of seating. Dimly lit and gave off a nice vibe. I was not sure about the food; I can be a bit picky sometimes with textures. I ordered the milk braised Berkshire shoulder and the beef tartar, while my husband got the pasta with beef ribs and beef marrow pasta and scallops. Everything can be described as simply amazing and delectable! The pork was fork tender and packed with flavor, and the pasta was savory. The beef tartare was packed with things I've never seen in a tartare, but when mixed, gave a wonderful explosion of flavor. I honestly did not walk in with very high expectations of what to expect food-wise here, as most trendy places tend to fall flat. But honestly this place absolutely delivered. Wonderful place to go after work or to hang with friends.
Delicious and satisfying lunch! We started with shared appetizers of pig ears and bone marrow served with toasted bread. For the main courses, my friend had a duck accompanied by three buns to stuff the meat into, while I opted for the aged pork chop, which came with small potatoes. The portions were generous and satisfying. The service was excellent, and I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time for earlier in the day.
Enjoyed a very delicious lunch of some very creative dishes. The menu emphasizes sharing dishes like tapas. We ordered from the shareable starters which consisted of the Whipped Ricotta, Mushroom Trio, Salted Beets, and the soup special -- Sweet Potato Soup. The soup was outstanding!!! The other dishes were very flavorful, satisfying and enjoyable to our palettes. The atmosphere and vibe was relaxing and our server was helpful and informative. Highly recommend you visit this deliciously creative place.
Great experience. My bf had highly recommended this to me based on the last time he came here (when it was at the old location). Good service. Nice interior. The food was mostly all delicious. The beets appetizer was recommended by the server. I'm not really into beets but surprisingly this was super good. The beets were soft. Paired well with the cheese and peanut butter. Interesting combos that I wouldve never thought of but it works! The pork tongue was good too. Mushroom risotto was a great entrees! Filled with scallops and mushrooms. Delicious and simple. The pork shoulder was another recommendation by the server. It was good, but bf and I enjoyed the mushroom risotto more. The pork shoulder was a bit heavy and the sauce was a bit salty for our personal taste. Saw the table next to us get apple cobbler and it looked so good that we had to get one also. It was so delicious! The pipping hot apple cobbler with the melty cinnamon ice cream. Great meal.
Blown away by the Purple Pig. Worth its multiple Michelin stars. Bonus, learned all about Michelin star restaurants! We sat right at the counter overlooking the kitchen and listening to the chefs cook on the line, so it was like dinner and a (food network) show! They take exceptional care of every dish and every part of the experience is crafted by with excellence, from ordering to delivery. It was fun to watch the executive chef watch over and call some shots. Our drinks were the best we had all trip. The purple one was especially notable. Each piece of our meal, the drinks, the goat cheese plate, and the hand made pasta was absolutely outstanding. We wanted to order everything off the menu by the time it was finished. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and patient, she really helped us when ordering. Overall, I’d go to the Purple Pig every single day if I had the option. So amazing.
SO GOOD. Everything we ate was amazing (see pics). Flavorful, tender pork, went well with the mushroom three ways dish. Went in on a busy Saturday night and the place was packed. Highly recommend getting a reservation or else you might not get a table. Def going back.
Our entire experience was amazing at The Purple Pig. Our food was delicious and our server was top notch. I highly recommend the Roasted Bone Marrow smear, Spanish Octopus, Pork Belly and Broccoli. The flavors of the dishes each boasts a true culinary delight. This is my new favorite restaurant!
What a gem!! I don’t even eat pork but everything here was outstanding! The tuna tartar, octopus, duck, and even the whipped feta with bread were all cooked with such perfection. Each one of my taste buds was singing in delight. The chefs clearly had perfected every tiny aspect of every dish from presentation and balance of all flavors that exist. Maybe the best food I’ve had in Chicago!! Exceptional service too!! What a treat!
Last time I was here (2019 which my first time!) I thought I had died and gone to heaven! This time I brought my boyfriend and he thought he was in heaven too! Same excellent food and service! We sat at the bar and our waiter:bartender Jaime was awesome. Took care of us well without being intrusive.Great smile, great manners, very knowledgeable! We will be back! Maybe even tomorrow night!
You gotta love pig...I really enjoyed everything about The Purple Pig. The food was fantastic, service was friendly and attentive, I ordered the Milk Braised Pork Shoulder with Mashed Potatoes it was phenomenal fork tender pork and the mashed potatoes were so silky amazing, Charred Cauliflower side dish. All the dishes were tasty and each dish had a great combination of flavors. The dessert was just amazing... And I thought the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food and location. If you are a Girl&The Goat fan, you will love The Purple Pig they have very similar concept. Both Amazing! 100% recommend!
Awesome dinner here, was able to get seats at the bar last minute. We ordered a variety of dishes, starting with roasted bone marrow - so delicious and full of flavor, the herbs, bacon jam and onions made it perfect. Then we had mushrooms 3 ways, good but not too much to say. The grilled shrimp was great, slight crisp char and delicious, and the best was the Spanish Octopus, which was grilled perfectly, tender and flavorful, seasoned beautifully, it was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here.
This was one of our most exceptional dining experiences in Chicago⭐️. The food, service, and atmosphere were exemplary. The filet mignon was the best I have ever had, rich in flavor with purple mashed potato and mushrooms perfectly prepared. The risotto was superb full of flavors, and the apple cobbler was exceptional. Compliments to Chef Efrain and his team for their outstanding work. We will certainly return; this restaurant fully merits its reputation.
We’ve been loyal customers for years. The first time this place blew our minds. Then we came back and will keep coming back. Last night was our 6th time… maybe… or more. I don’t know. We had tried I’d say more than 50% of the menu and liked it a lot. There had been a few disappointments but for the most part, the “wows” outweighed the “mehs”. I have to say, my wife and I are more than foodie aficionados. We spend time and money in food and the making. Both of us love to cook and eat well. We have been to many 3, 2, and 1 Michelin star places around the world and dozens of Michelin suggested spots. Be prepared to pay +$100 per head for food plus drinks. Portions are shareable but ARE NOT family sized. This is not the Olive Garden. You need to order 4 dishes or more for a party of two, and you better share so you get to try it all. We just love to be seated at the Chef’s table. You get to see the kitchen and the “line” right there. You are also able to talk to the chef and sous-chef… they are quite friendly, and if you’re lucky, they will send you a complimentary thing or two. Long story short… this is my second favorite restaurant in the city. Alinea is number one, but it’s also 8x more pricey and has 3-Michelin stars… so it’s not a comparison but my personal list of favorite places.
We dined in on a Saturday evening with 7 pm dinner reservations and arrived a half hour early. We were surprised to be seated immediately as the restaurant was pretty full. The food was amazing but a tad bit salty. We each ordered our own dish because one of us doesn’t eat meat and another was allergic to fish. The food is meant to be shared because it comes out as soon as it is ready in the kitchen. So that means you don’t get your meals at the same time but they did come out pretty quick. We were so hungry we didn’t care.
i never leave reviews and nobody asked me to but here i am. HOLY COW as a foodie with some really good taste buds every dish was insanely unique and flavorful. get the pork tongue appetizer and the pistachio butter beets!!! lol omg, and the service was so good the servers were adorable and very nice :)
Stopped in for a quick dinner at the bar on a work trip - excellent food, excellent service, and a cool vibe. I had the maplewood smoked pork chop and the roasted cauliflower, both of which were awesome with generous portions. I also had food envy staring at the lamb shank ordered next to me - will have to return!
Ok. I am in love with this place. Every dish was delicious. They work magic in that kitchen. Best food ever. Best espresso martini I have ever had. 1st trime trying fried pig ears. So damn good! A must visit. Staff was super nice!
We had lunch at The Purple Pig for my husband’s birthday, and it did not disappoint. Our server, Camilo, was personable, attentive, and truly made the experience unforgettable. We shared the Spanish Octopus, which was perfectly cooked and great for two, and the half duck, glazed with orange juice and brown sugar, which was absolutely delicious (and generous enough for leftovers). The restaurant was packed and a bit loud around 1:45 pm, but the incredible food and exceptional service more than made up for it. Conveniently located near where the Architecture Boat Tour departs, this spot is a must-visit in Chicago. Highly recommend!
Recommended by our friend. Every single meal is so delicious! Best pork and bone marrow ✨ Can’t wait to come next time when visit Chicago again 👌👌👌
Everything was fabulous! Food arrived impossibly fast, kitchen has it down to a science. Top hits of the night were the tuna tartare and bone marrow agnolotti, but everything was delicious.
We had lunch here and decided to return for dinner in order to eat some of the dishes we missed out on. It was nice and quiet at lunchtime (Friday) but very noisy for dinner and so not suited for a first date! For us that was fine and we enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. The food is delicious and posted is pork tongue, scallops, pork belly and the lemon pie. Every dish at lunch and dinner was really good but the pork dishes are definitely the best. There’s a good wine menu.
Everything was fantastic!!! Every single dish was on point with seasonings and flavor. Our server/bartender Valentino took such good care of us! 20 out of 10! He gave us wine pairings that paired with the dishes so beautifully. Every course came out perfect timing. Props to the chef! Out of the 3 days we dinned in Chicago, Purple Pig easily took first place with everything! Highly recommend
My fiancé and I have been here a handful of times, and have great experiences each time we visit. This occasion, we ordered the Half Duck, which was absolutely spectacular! I will be thinking about that dish for a long time.
Overall, a great dining experience at The Purple Pig. The highlight for me was the Bone Marrow. The accompanying sauce was perfect—it had a lovely slight acidity that balanced out the richness and greasiness of the marrow beautifully. However, I’m giving it 4 stars because the pork dish I ordered was served quite rare. While I appreciate the quality of the meat, it was a bit too underdone/pink for my personal preference. For a meal at this price point, I would have preferred a bit more consistency in the cooking. That being said, the food is undeniably creative and delicious. Just be sure to specify your preferred doneness if you're sensitive to rare pork!
It’s been years since I was here and it has changed a lot from the pokey little restaurant it was. One thing has not changed, the outstanding quality of the food. Simply superb. I highly recommend the Buratta and the pork shoulder. The octopus was also mega. You will not be disappointed.
Always stellar. Never disappoints. I’ve been a fan of Purple Pig since 2015 when they were in the old location. No trip to Chicago is complete without a meal here. I was thoroughly impressed by their take on the Chicago-style hot dog. Beets were perfectly flavored. This restaurant does incredible things with cheese. Never skip the cheeses. Purple Pig is ALWAYS my first recommendation for Chicago lunch or dinner. 10/10
The setting is modern, cozy, stylish, and casually elegant all at once — a perfect balance. But let’s talk about what really matters: the food. I started with the smoked pork tongue, and it was amazing — light, flavorful, and so good I could’ve had another plate. For the main course, I went with the half duck. It was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside; Sooo goooood To finish, I had the apple cobbler for dessert — delicious. Big shoutout to my Latino friends who happily took care of me at the bar. Great service, great vibe. =)
7/23/25 Michelin Bib Visiting Chicago and I had this on my list to try because of the bone marrow and a co worker told me I had to try Purple Pig when I get to Chicago, so of course top of the list to do. John was amazing, he was smiling, friendly and patient. Talked us through the menu. And Abel was helpful. Iced Coffe and Ginger Ale Bone Marrow - OMG definitely a must have Endive and Duck Salad - delicious, funny it tasted like Prosciutto, shrug 36 Day Aged Pork Chop - the best pork chop EVER! I would love to get this again someday in the future! Definitely must try, so worth it!!!
I visited The Purple Pig in Chicago and fell in love with its bold Mediterranean-inspired small plates like smoky pork tongue, crispy pig ears, and salt-roasted beets with whipped goat cheese. The food was indulgent, flavorful, and made for sharing—truly memorable and delicious. A few dishes were a bit too salty for my taste, and the restaurant was extremely loud, especially on busy nights. Although I enjoyed almost every bite, the noise level and occasional seasoning imbalance kept it from perfection.
Delicious! We walked in around 5 and were able to sit at the bar. Bone marrow was good but the lamb shank was a real stand out! So juicy and tender. Best lamb I think I’ve had. The lemon pie for dessert was very tasty as well! Love the menu for sharing and trying new things.
Food was fantastic, as we remembered from our last time here in May. Bone Marrow was just perfect. Lamb shank was divine Beef tartar was very good half duck was already a bit too much for us. Its great to revisit the place every time we are in Chicago. Can't wait till next time. A word about the noise - it's not very quiet. But the food is worth it!
Came to Chicago for the weekend and visited the Purple Pig for dinner along with 6 others and we shared each dish family style. Here are my thoughts: To start, not only was the food great but our server Troy was one to remember! Very knowledgeable about the dishes, drinks and very attentive as well. My favorite dishes were the Lamb Shank and Half Duck (you can skip the buns). Everything else was flavorful and no crumbs were left behind even the small meat on the bone marrow was consumed. Service was relatively fast. Dishes popped out once one was done as well as the same for drinks. (We were there at 5pm for dinner, not too sure if that makes a difference) On another note, the bathroom even had a sitting stool which I never seen in a restaurant. Honestly, only downside was that theres a service charge on the bill? We rather pay more to tip our server.
I was in Chicago recently and decided to try The Purple Pig on a whim. The place was nearly full when we arrived, but to my surprise we got seated quite quickly, a promising start. Once seated, the service was impressively fast, which set the tone for what turned into a standout meal. We began with two Old Fashioneds, both were fantastic, well balanced, strong without overpowering, and a great way to kick off the evening. For our first shared plate, we ordered the beef bone marrow. It was superb, juicy, deeply flavorful, and indulgent. It came with butter layered bread, perfect for scooping up every last bit, which paired beautifully with the marrow and elevated the experience. Next up was the burrata. This too was a hit, creamy, fresh, and beautifully presented. The plating, flavors, and textures all showed real care. By this point, I was feeling confident that this place might live up to the hype. For mains, we chose the lamb shanks. They were very good, tender, richly seasoned, and satisfying, although in my opinion they didn’t quite eclipse the bone marrow for sheer wow factor. Still, they were heavenly in their own right. Overall, the food, presentation, and pace of service worked seamlessly. The ambiance is lively (some reviews mention noise and bustle), but that energy added to rather than detracted from the experience. The Purple Pig has a reputation for “cheese, swine & wine” and for being a place to share inventive, bold Mediterranean inspired small plates. It also holds a Bib Gourmand designation, reflecting its balance of quality and value. Given what we had, I’d say this place really deserves a 5 star rating or more. If you find yourself in Chicago again, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back, and I’d strongly encourage trying their bone marrow, burrata, and lamb shanks or whatever seasonal specials they have.
Every bite was overwhelmingly delicious!!! We had 6 dishes shared with one or two large bites each. The in-season peach sauces and sweet onions were the bomb!! Pork tenderloin, Ricotta and Lemon Ravioli, potatoes and mushrooms, tuna tartar and avocado with squid ink cracker and 36mos-aged Parmigiano-Reggiano and prosciutto with a thin cheese cracker.
Excellent restaurant serving Spanish inspired small plates family style. We had Ricotta &figs, whipped feta, spicy octopus, pork belly with polenta, milk braised Berkshire shoulder, finishing with the Oreo cheesecake. Plenty for three. The star was the octopus, succulent and perfectly cooked with stunning flavors. All the dishes were really good, well cooked and presented. Service was great, fast and friendly, letting us taste a couple of wines before selecting one. A little pricey but worth it. Recommended.
Been to the old location many many times... but first time visiting the new location... it has been 6 years... lol. Had my favorite bone marrow... the portion was huge... it was very rich and delicious so a glass of bubbly was a must. Probably be back again this week before heading home.
Overall great dining experience. Personally I found the pork ribeye special was a bit over salted. The mushroom 3 ways was fantastic
Wow. The most incredible squid ink chitarra!! Such a great atmosphere with super friendly staff. Highly recommend. Our plates were empty without a morsel left. Also recommend the Penicillin mixed drink. Definitely put this on your Chicago bingo card.
We had our annual Team Dinner there. Really enjoyed the great food and the mindful service. Place was a bit crowded and loud though.
Came in for lunch on Sunday, it was easy to get a lunch reservation but I also think walk-ins would be easily accommodated for lunch time. Nice dining room, however the tables were a bit uneven because of the folding leafs. Our food was very good, I really enjoyed their weekly special agnolotti that had a creamy corn and truffle filling and their cornbread appetizer! They had a good wine selection, I’d highly recommend coming in!
This place is very good! The pork chop is big. Braised pork shoulder was also very soft. Bone marrow was delicious although I’ve never seen it with so much parsley but nonetheless it was tasty.
Great experience here. We ordered a bunch of different apps and entrees and shared between 6 of us. The dishes come out as they're ready (apps before entrees tho) and it's a perfect steady flow of food constantly coming to the table. All the flavors were good and seasoned well. Service was attentive and friendly.
Terrific restaurant a bit out of the way, boasting a unique and creative menu. Dining space is a bit limited, so reservations are important, especially at high demand hours. We had the salmon and scallops, and both were delicious. Try the salted caramel gelato. Oh my!
Highly recommended by the docent of the architectural boat tour. Gourmet food, wonderful shareable, portions and very entertaining service in a lively, cheerful atmosphere! The bone narrow appetizer was the best we’ve ever had. Everything was expertly prepared, well season, but not over seasoned, and beautifully presented.
We loved our experience tonight! The staff is so attentive and makes the best recommendations. The food is delicious and served beautifully
Loved the restaurant. Food is good and plates are perfect for sharing. Great for trying tons of different items and sharing. The half duck was the best and the only item not worth trying was the pork tongue. The lamb and pork shank are fall off the bone tender, the grilled chicken thighs were juicy, the char and the crisp skin of the branzino was good and the grilled octopus were decent. Bone marrow was great and the pickled veggies in it balanced the dish well. The crème brûlée was decadent but a bit sweet but the sorbet was incredible and refreshing.
For me, this dining experience was exactly that. An experience. We sat at the bar, which had seats tightly packed next to each other and the high tops behind them. Still, once we sat down, we found enough space on the bar itself to comfortably enjoy our food. We shared three starters: the Grilled Broccoli, Tuna Tartare and Burrata. All three were abundantly flavorful. The Grilled Broccoli had a beautiful combination of sweet and salty, coming from the apple and anchovy vinaigrette pairing. Both the broccoli and apples were perfectly crisp, and the dressing was not overpowerful. The Burrata was the best I've ever had. Instead of just being served with tomatoes and greens, it was accompanied by butternut squash, prosciutto and a fabulous sauce made with 'Nduja. Look it up. AMAZING! Last but not least, was the Tuna Tartare. The presentation was very creative, and while I don't know exactly what was in the dressing, it tasted as though there might have been some Asian influence of some kind. Very savory. The Purple Pig is a must.
Overall a very good place. Service was attentive and overall excellent. Most dishes were hits with a few misses (nothing was bad). Food Tuna - excellent. Truffle kicked it up. Duck croquettes - very good. Whipped feta- so good. Sweet, salty, crunchy. Octopus- excellent. Cooked tender then grilled. Gnocchi with pork- texture very tender. Sauce was good, very rustic. Though it was good I was hoping for spectacular and something I can’t make at home. Smoked pork chop- maybe the most disappointing. It was fine, but we specified medium/ medium rare and it came medium plus. Apple cider sauce was good but wasn’t spectacular. Crackling was a nice touch. It wasn’t that it was bad, I just expected more for $48.
I was there alone hence just sat at the bar. Have been here before but it’s been over a decade so here as memoir. Food is still pretty good but the price has gone up quite a bit. Service wasn’t good as I would expect. The food I ordered was quite heavy hence I asked if there were any breads to go with, they brought me some which greatly appreciated, but they didnt tell me there was a charge for that (i probably wouldn’t have had it since I only had maybe two bites out of a big portion.) Also got the second glass of wine wrong and it was difficult to get their attention so forget it. Overall I was a bit let down compared to the great experience I had the last time I was here
Quite disappointed with this experience considering how high the reviews are. We came here for a birthday lunch with reservations. Our waiter told us it was more family style portions and most people order a variety and share their dishes. We ordered the seafood risotto, greek salad, and the orecchiette. I was confused regarding the portion size being made for sharing because they definitely weren’t. They were small portions and although tasty I don’t think they were worth the price point. Regarding service although we were seated quickly we waited over 10 min for our server then waited a long time to be able to order and to receive our check. Additionally for a restaurant that seems to be advertised as upscale that was not the level of service or atmosphere we received. There were kids running around the restaurant, playing in the door, screaming and slapping the glass, tripping up staff and patrons etc while the parents just sat there. One of the kids ran away out the door and a restaurant staff had to inform them for them to get that kid. Overall I was very embarrassed I brought my friends here for a formal dinner getting all dressed up to receive subpar food, service, and environment. At least it happened on my birthday and not theirs.
