Preguntas frecuentes sobre El Cafecín
Opiniones de El Cafecín Coyoacán
The prices are cheap, they always have good options
I don't know who makes the green salsa for the chilaquiles, but it's truly the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. I'm giving it 5 stars just for that salsa.
A great place to eat in UNAM (Ciudad Universitaria). The food isn't as expensive as in other parts of the campus. The food they offer, especially the student scholarship meals, is delicious and varied. Highly recommended. There's a different dish every day at lunchtime. A complete and tasty menu. Most of the breakfast dishes are delicious. A must-try. 2023 Update: Everything is still offered at the same price as last year, same quality and flavor, excellent portions. The student scholarship meals have good portions. The best: molletes chilangos (Mexico City-style molletes).
Good prices, varied menu, pleasant taste, friendly staff, and cleanliness. Highly recommended. One of the most popular breakfasts is the combo with Mexico City molletes; if you're hungry, it's worth it.
A very clean, pleasant, inexpensive, and fast place. Breakfast is served until 1:00 PM, and lunch starts after that. The cafeteria at the Physics Institute is very quiet and fast; the one on the way to Engineering is much bigger, but it takes a long time during peak hours, though it's worth it. Recommended.
It's a good place to eat if you have the nutritional support scholarship; they serve generous portions and the food is good. The lunch menu is varied, so it doesn't get boring, and there are several breakfast options as well. However, if you don't have the scholarship, there are better options because the prices are high compared to other nearby places.
The food is very varied. My experience has been mostly with the set meals and breakfasts. The chilaquiles are very good, the set meals are good, although sometimes they lack creativity in the dishes. Occasionally, the flavored water lacks fruit; it's almost just plain water. I would recommend washing the trays; they're usually sticky. I'm referring to the trays, not the plates.
I'm a scholarship student, so they don't charge me for the food, which is fine, but for the commercial price, I think the food is very expensive considering what you get. The service is okay, neither good nor bad, and it's generally noisy because most of the guests are students.
It opened at the start of the new semester, 2022-2. They are following health and safety protocols and have maintained their prices for most dishes and regular portions. UPDATE: Demand that they serve you the full menu because the trainees are serving smaller portions than they should.
Cariñoson is nice, especially since it's right next to the Science building. The staff isn't always the friendliest, but they're almost always helpful, and the food is good. I wish they had juice available later. You can always count on the restroom being usable, but the dish counter isn't always clean.
Their food is disgustingly spicy, and you have to beg for beans and napkins. Plus, they don't honor the prices they display.
Bring your own cutlery if you don't want to get sick. The food is delicious, the service is bad, and the hygiene is worse. Be very careful with the spoons, forks, and knives; they all have food stuck to them, and today I confirmed that they don't wash the cutlery properly because they literally just sweep them with a broom and scrub all the newly used cutlery. What's up with that?
The only time it's advisable to come here is if you have the food assistance scholarship. Otherwise, the prices are high for what they offer, the portions are small, and the food is neither good nor bad. Almost any other option on campus is much better. Plus, they take forever to deliver your food if what you ordered isn't the daily special. The staff's service leaves much to be desired; they usually only serve you because they have no other choice, and there are very few occasions when they do it willingly. Cleanliness is mediocre; the tables, chairs, and bar are somewhat dirty, the silverware is often not properly washed, and the bathrooms are in poor condition. In conclusion, I recommend going somewhere else if you don't have the food assistance scholarship.
The food is fine for scholarship students, but there are several things that leave a lot to be desired: 1. The hours: they're supposed to close at 8:00 p.m., but they start cleaning up at 5:50 p.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. The person cleaning up removes the benches and gives you a warning that they're about to close. 2. Hygiene: The glasses look somewhat dirty with things stuck to them, as do the plates. The trays feel sticky, dirty, and also have food stuck to them. This happens because the people who remove the trays just wipe them down without much effort, so they're always dirty. 4. Portions and food: The portions are somewhat small, and the "consommé" is just chicken broth with epazote or cilantro and 3 grains of rice. 5. Attention: The staff is generally good, but there is a man who collects the trays and benches who pushes students when he wants to pass and is sometimes abusive.
The portion is small, they don't give you the full breakfast, and they still charge the same. I ordered huevos rancheros, and the egg was raw. They serve you grudgingly.
Their portions are pathetic. I've estimated what they spend on a set meal, and it comes to less than 10 pesos, while they charge 50. It's outrageous to serve only 3 spoonfuls of beans, 5 of rice, and a thin skin of chicken, worse than a sandal sole, and their water is even worse: pure sock water. As for the broth, it's nothing more than a soup with less substance than herbal tea... in short, it's miserable and regrettable that people are content to pay such exorbitant prices.
