Opiniones de Gemma-Dallas Dallas
A lovely little upscale neighborhood place. If I lived in Dallas I’d be a regular. Plenty of parking, but you do have to navigate through a construction site. Great atmosphere, skillful and warm service. A friend and I split half a dozen oysters (east coast, $4 each), which I followed with the hamachi crudo (excellent) and an order of moules frites. The portion of delicious mussels was ridiculously large; two people could easily share it. (I sent some home with my friend.) The accompanying fries were perfectly cooked but much too salty - the reason I gave the food 4 stars instead of 5. My friend had the spicy salmon tartare, which came with butter lettuce leaves for wrapping, followed by the trout almandine (she loved both dishes). There’s seating at the bar for walk ins and the overall vibe is welcoming and casual. Fun for just a nice dinner with a friend, but could also be a great date night spot.
Came here for dinner and was very pleased with the food and service. The cones (which were complimentary) were so delicious! The cocktails were good as well. Our table ordered the duck breasts, the quail, and steak and everything came out really great. My favorite was the duck breasts which were very tender and flavorful. Valet Parking is available and they validate so definitely a plus. Will be back!
Fantastic service, great ambiance and it's definitely a southern restaurant. It's Dallas meets new American in aesthetic and dishes. Waitstaff are very educated on the menu and pairings making dining there a relaxed night. Can get loud and busy in late evening so make sure to make a reservation.
The setting is lovely, the restaurant surprisingly doesn't get very loud, even though it was packed when we had dinner, and the food is delicious. We had the crudo (very good), the chicken (good, a bit more original than your average restaurant chicken, my husband was very happy with it), and I had the striped bass with quinoa risotto which I thought was excellent. Overall very good meal and good service. The cocktails are excellent as well, highly recommend having one of those!
We have gone a few times now either with friends or family. The food is well thought out and cooked to perfection. They are innovative with the menus and constantly striving to bring its patrons new and exciting dishes. Between all of us we have tried just about every item and can’t think of a negative comment to make. The staff is attentive and friendly ensuring a great evening! Glad we found this location. The same owners have another restaurant in Dallas - Sachet. We have not been here yet though do plan on going. Photo has Pappardelle pasta w, rabbit Brick chicken Sakura Pork Chop Flat Iron Streak Salmon All excellent, tasty, and satisfying!
Stopped in for a last minute date night and were able to grab seats at the bar. While awaiting appetizers, we were served some amazing fig and gouda cheese scones. We started with the Korean sticky ribs (the garlic and glazing was delicious) and spicy salmon tartare (melts in your mouth). For an entree we split the steak frites which were fantastic. For drinks we enjoyed the Blood Orange Margarita, Texas Heat and finished off with an Espresso Martini. 10/10 would recommend.
Gemma is a must try! This place has yet to disappoint after trying it almost 5x. Their starters of scones with Gouda and blackberries are exquisite. They’ve got a superb ambiance, while small in size they are 100% with their customer service. I tried their sister restaurant, Sachet, but came back to finish up dinner with their amazing Korean short ribs and perfectly cooked and seasoned rabbit pappardelle pasta. The late night menu is awesome!
Went to Gemma for my birthday dinner with friends. It was a great choice! Their service is incredible, the restaurant is the perfect size that all the staff are very attentive to table needs. We had the blood orange margaritas, oysters, shrimp, burata, salmon, and two pasta dishes. Everything was delicious, the pasta is out of this world. We could not get over how fresh and flavorful the Pasta dishes were (Rigatoni alla vodka and pappardelle.)
This place has it all: vibes, food, service. The prices are fair for the delicious bites. Had the flat iron steak, the chimichurri was perfectly seasoned, the meat was perfectly cooked. The shrimp pasta was absolutely delicious. The fig scones are amazing. Fully recommend. We also had the mussels appetizer - well worth it. Our server Jonna was the best!
Stellar service! Lovely date night/girls night ambiance. There's a small lot for parking w/plenty of spots on a wednesday evening at 7pm. We loved the duck pasta and the pappardelle pasta. We shamefully ate a ton of their complimentary scones, but they were so fresh and delicious! We couldn't stop! Would absolutely love to come back here again!!
If I were to summarize the experience I had at this restaurant (first time trying it) that word would be "incredible" I eat out three times a day everyday and I've been to almost every decent restaurant within the dfw area. Gemma stunned me in a way I haven't been stunned in a long time. This is going to be a special gem kept away for only special people in my life to enjoy with me. Or a goto place when I'm "Hangry" and just want some really good food made by outstanding chefs. I mean where do I start... the atmosphere is romantic with a chill family/friend vibe, don't get me started on the food!! The Pappardelle (Rabbit) is amazing and a must try, oh and I can't forget the Grilled baby octopus 🤤 I promise to whoever is reading this review, I am not exaggerating when I say this place is incredible. Try it and let me know if it meets or exceeds your expectations based on this review 😏
Sublime restaurant at the top of the game in service, food, ambiance and overall value and experience. Some of the best oysters, appetizers, original pasta dishes and seasonal cooking in Dallas. Love the cocktails. Allison runs a lovely wine list with some California gems and generally amazing selections. “Reverse happy hour” means late night specials.
My wife and I had a wonderful evening here. The tables were well spaced, the staff masked, and hand sanitizer on each table. We started with a celebratory bottle bubbly and split the Grilled Caesar. I had the Pork Tournedos Au Poivre, she had the Duck Frites and we split the side special Kale with beacon. The Chocolate & Peanut Butter cake was the finishing touch for the evening. Couldn’t have been better!
New Dallas favorite! My wife and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and wanted to get away from the over-priced, overly-pretentious, high-end spots downtown. Gemma did not disappoint. The Burrata, spaghetti, scallops, duck fat tots, melon salad and desserts were incredible. The presentation was great, and everything came out perfectly timed. Additionally, the service was flawless, despite a packed house and busy Saturday night. The wait staff took great care of us and made the evening special. Gemma has easily become a new favorite of ours and we will certainly be frequenting this place.
Amazing, original food and cocktails. Wonderful service, even at peak times. Try the Texas Heat and Gemma Manhattan cocktails to start. The radicchio salad and forbidden rice small plates were fabulous. The main courses of orecchiette and the pork chop were over-the-top great. And what a wine list! Nice selection of half bottles, too. If we lived in Dallas, Gemma would be on our "must eat" list.
Amazing experience from the service to the food. Everything was top notch. We started with oysters, beef tartare, and the Caesar. We had the pasta alla norma and pappardelle as our main course, and finished off with the brownie for dessert. Bianca was our server and she was super sweet, attentive, and very personable. Can’t wait to go back, there’s so much on the menu that I would like to try.
My husband and I went a few weeks ago to celebrate our dating anniversary and what service! From the moment we walked in we were greeted warmly and taken to our table. The staff even made a happy anniversary sign for us. The food was superb. From the complimentary bread all the way up to our dessert, everything was delicious. My favorite was the Rigatoni Alla Vodka! Best I’ve ever had!
All I can say is WOW … what an experience!!!This was such a great dinning experience that I’d recommend it to anyone on any occasion! . They have, in my opinion, the best service in Texas + the food was phenomenal.. The Crudo was a 10/10 ! oysters were top notch and half off after 9pm 🤯. I got the spritz and that too was flawless .. I will be back many many more times! Update —> 12/29 we are back again and having a blast 💥. Everything is just as good as the last time ! #Ameliaforpresident
I️ will do my review by each meal this time around: Starter: Salmon Tartar - The salmon tartare is very delicious. In terms of overall quality I️ would say it ranks about low level fine dining establishments. It doesn't present itself much of a strong flavor, and it isn't suppose to. It represents the freshness of the herbs, and the quality of salmon they use. Side: Butter Salad - The butter salad while simple in t design and presentation has shown itself to be such a strong contender. The perfect balance of wine and vinegar has left this to be one of the most memorable dishes of my life. Entre: Red Snapper He red snapper was worrisome at first. I️ have always had experiences that most establishment try to please the general consensus. Instead of creating their own dish. Gemma had created not only the perfect snapper in consistency, but with their red sauce as well. The potatoes cooked to a perfection left this to be the best fish meal I️ have ever eaten. To be more detailed is was like eating a perfectly cooked steak. The meat itself was so tender is melted in my mouth like butter. The skin was fried perfectly that it gave a crispy that I️ will never forget. I️ could have had half the portion and been satisfied. Even a fourth. Dessert: Apple Crisp with Coffee Sorbet The apple crisp with coffee sorbet hand is only delicious together. The crisp alone suffer what many pie dishes face. To be over saturated with what "apple and brown sugar" should taste like. Once combined with the handmade sorbet it creates a complete compliment where the brown sugar is cut down, and the crisp has the opportunity to stand out of the apples. I️ would not reorder, but that in no way means I️ do not enjoy it now. Service: Ashley was a complete treat, and the main reason I will return. Her friendly nature, and genuine care in my experience is what set this restaurant apart from everywhere else. I’m anxious and hungry to return for more.
As our first dinner in Dallas we ate at Gemma. We made a reservation and was seated promptly. They have a pretty extensive wine list but nobody in my family drinks so that was wasted on us but the food on the other hand was not. All the food was absolutely amazing! You really can't go wrong with anything here but I personally loved the Raw Oysters and the Pork Tournados Au Poivre! The Scones that are complimentary are to die for! I'd compare them to the biscuits from Red Lobster in terms of addictiveness! They were Black Fig Scones with Gouda and were warm and fluffy; I could've just ate that all night and been extremely satisfied!
My experience at Gemma was simply delightful. From the moment we arrived, my friends and I were impressed with the cozy yet elegant atmosphere of the restaurant. We started off with some incredible craft cocktails, including a blood orange margarita that was a perfect balance of sweet and tart. For appetizers, we ordered the ceviche and ribs, and both were fantastic. The ceviche was fresh and zesty, while the ribs were juicy and flavorful. The only critique we had was that we would have loved to have some sort of sauce to go with the ribs, but that was a minor issue. For our main courses, we tried the Trenne and the Oven chicken, and both were outstanding. The Trenne had just the right amount for me, and the sauce was rich and delicious. The Oven chicken was also a standout, with a savory flavor that was so satisfying. Located in the Henderson area of Dallas, Gemma is definitely a gem. The restaurant manages to strike the perfect balance between being fancy and upscale without feeling pretentious or stuffy. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal and chill atmosphere.
To me, this is a perfect place for a celebratory dinner- birthday, anniversary, or holidays. We ordered several appetizers, the rabbit pasta, and the apple crisp. Everything was truly wonderful. The flavors complimented each other well, and everything came out in a timely manner. I am already excited thinking about the next time we can visit Gemma!
Wonderful flavors. Food service was paced very comfortably. Every dish we had there was unique...the mussels were fresh a.d came in a cream sauce with bits of ham in it. The mushroom puff pastry was baked really crispy. Wild boar pasta was out of world crazy good. The steak was lost in the jungle of fries and arugula...plating was questionable but cook on the steak was on point, especially for a flat iron steak.
Gemma is has become my second home. I’ve been familiar with the concept but until the past 6 months I have been coming in every week. If you really want a true experience you sit with Brent who will walk you through how you need to experience this place. And if you sit at a table you’re still in good hands. Every week I come here I keep getting blown away by Chef Sophia’s approach on the menu. Really miss the Sakura pork chop though. The hospitality aspect is impeccable, being in the hospitality industry myself and for different places I’ve worked with, Gemma is leading quietly like a beast and beating everyone at the hospitality game. If you want have an experience and create a memory or woo your date, this is the place. Nothing you order on the menu is ordinary, it defines perfection.
Update 8/18: This was my first time back in almost 8 years. I came once in 2017 and have been dreaming about it since. I finally made it back, and it did not disappoint. The excellent service started before we even visited when I emailed them for some help and they quickly responded. Upon arriving, we were seated right away to a comfortable table by the window. Our server was fantastic (I am unable to remember his name--he was very kind and had great hair). He made recommendations upon request. When we asked about wine and didn't have an answer to our specific question, he didn't just make something up. He got the sommelier on staff, Philip who helped us choose a bottle. Little things like this mean a lot to our group that dines out together monthly. We remember these things and appreciate them. Onto the food: wow. Everything was impeccable. We tried quite a bit. Oysters, roast carrots, the crab cake, beef carpaccio, peach and tomato salad, creamed spinach, the rabbit pappardelle, duck confit, trout almondine, and the pistacio bar and creme brulee for dessert. Everything was truly fantastic, but there were some standouts. Our group gets oysters often. I loved that Gemma's were served with a mignonette (which we all love) but instead of traditional cocktail sauce or horseradish, they served it with this really neat jalapeno ice. It sounds weird, but it brightened up the oysters so much. It was such a nice pop to these gems of the sea. The crab cake was seriously one of the best I've had. The carpaccio was top notch. The roast carrots could have been a star of their own entree. The rabbit has apparently been on the menu since day 1 and there's a reason for that. The trout almondine could have been boring, but it was so perfectly cooked and the squeeze of roast lemon added the perfect punch of acidity. The creme brulee was one of the best creme brulees I've had in a long time. It was simple and no frills, but so perfectly done. And the pistachio bar was an explosion of delight in my mouth. We all started off the night with the cucumber basil cocktail. 2 of us made the superior choice of exchanging the vodka for botanist gin and it was sheer perfection. Noting a lack of gin cocktails on the menu, I would highly suggestion Gemma make this a permanent change. The restaurant is adorable. Cozy and comfortable. Not too overdone. The food and service are the stars. Highly recommend. note: Deleted my old review because it was 8 years old and google won't let me post even more of a novel. But this place was awesome 8 years ago and is still awesome in 2025.
Its fun, when searching of places to go that are doing there own thing this popped up. Gave it a chance, and we are glad we did. I'd skip the ribs, but the wife liked them. I think they are made with fish sauce (like Pok Pok in Portland) The steak for 2 could be for 1 - because its delicious The fries are amazing It gets busy, so go earlier
We had an amazing dinner at Gemma. The pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked, simple yet full of flavor. The quail was the standout: tender, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. Cozy atmosphere and attentive service made the night even better. Highly recommend for a refined yet relaxed dining experience.
One of my favorite places to have dinner in Dallas! Gemma is a perfection. Great service , fantastic food ( you can literally close your eyes and point at anything on the menu and you will love it !) , spacious enough so no one will be bumping into you. We had dinner there the other night after leaving Sister ( disappointed) and Phillip was so nice to fit us in. We had oysters- amazingly fresh , hamachi crudo - exceptional fish quality , beef carpaccio- perfect slices paired with some cheese and greens, then we moved onto pasta - I’m not a big fan of pasta dishes as I’m extremely picky about it but i kept sticking my fork into my husband’s plate and that says A LOT, I was also pleased to see a quail dish on the menu- deep fried it was crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside, finished with some espresso and affogato. I’m always happy to see coffee machines at restaurants and to see affogato as a dessert option at Gemma - it was a perfect ending to our meal.
Right to the top of my Dallas list. We cane here for our 7 year anniversary and absolutely loved it. The restaurant is nice and cozy, well decorated and casually elegant. Very nice place overall. Service was outstanding, our waitress was kind and fun, they offered a free sparkling wine glass to celebrate our anniversary and had a note on the table waiting for us. Food was delicious, flavors were really good and balanced. Pork and beef were both juicy, appetizers were also really good. They also have a nice bar. Overall a really good place to go, can’t wait to come back.
Exceptional meal, exceptional service. Had the beef carpaccio, which was only second best to what I had in Italy. Husband ordered the pappardelle rabbit and I ordered the tagliatelle. Red sauce isn't my favorite so my sweet husband switched with me. I hate the thought of eating rabbit BUT IT WAS SO GOOD. They offer valet parking. Highly recommended and worth the 40 minute drive.
A wonderful dining experience. The service amazing! The menu is very thoughtful and has a lot to offer for all types pallets and food restrictions. The desert we had was so so good. My salmon wasn’t my favourite as it had beans, my friends Lasagna was really good. I wish I got that instead. I would love to go again. Highly recommend to book a reservation!
We had a great experience dining at Gemma. From the moment we walked in, hospitality was friendly and we felt taken care of. Everyone is offered a small scone to begin with which was delicious. We then split the shrimp spaghetti and steak frites (substituted normal fries for the duck fat tater tots) and were very pleased with everything. The steak was solid and felt fair priced but the spaghetti was the star of the show and I would for sure order it again. Overall, we had a nice experience, enjoyed the warm atmosphere, and would come back again for a nicer date night. Note- make your reservation in advance because spots here go quickly.
I’ve been dining at Gemma for 11 years now since I moved to Dallas in 2014. It has remained a constant place of comfort in an ever changing restaurant scene in Dallas. The food is spectacular and NEVER disappoints. The staff and service is even better. I probably eat there 2-3 times a month now. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but if you’re a first timer you’ve got to try the rabbit pappardelle. Thank you to all the staff (front of house, bar tenders, and kitchen staff) for creating just an absolutely lovely restaurant.
Got seated immediately at the bar at 5:30 on a weeknight and was served by Carlos, who was attentive and helpful in recommending dishes. The paradelle (rabbit pasta) and duck fat tater tots were great, and the complementary scone was good, but the real star of the show was the Strawberry/Pistachio Semifreddo. It was refreshing and light, perfect for the summer. One of the servers had mentioned that she thinks it's the best dessert and I can see why. I've truly never had any dessert quite like it.
Amazing! The atmosphere is top notch and romantic. Looking around, not a lot of phones out, just people talking to one another as it should be. Jeremy was our server and he was one of the best waiters we've ever had. He was funny, explained a lot of the dishes in an easy to digest manner, and gave great recommendations. The food was top notch. On par with some michelin starred places. We will absolutely be back. Do yourself a favor and book a reservation here.
Full but not overpacked on a Thursday night. The staff was attentive but not pushy or intrusive. Food was a pasta and scallop dish. Simple dishes prepared well and served comfortably. They comped an appetizer for my wife’s birthday. The breaded olives and pecans came to the table toasty and tasty. Everyone was welcoming. Price was reasonable for quality, service & atmosphere.
Our experience at Gemma was just as wonderful as our visit to its sister restaurant, Sachet. Even without a reservation, Phillip, Gemma’s restaurant manager, was incredibly accommodating and made sure we were taken care of. His hospitality mirrored the amazing experience we had at Sachet, and it truly made us feel welcomed. That said, I highly recommend making reservations at both restaurants as they are very popular and always packed for a reason. Our servers, Jeremy and Austin, were fantastic. They were knowledgeable, attentive, and gave spot-on recommendations that made the meal even more special. The food was outstanding. We started with the mushroom bouchée, a flaky puff pastry filled with garlic, sherry, thyme, and finished with parmigiano reggiano and herb salad. It was rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious. The chopped salad with Honeycrisp apple, speck, feta, red onion, candied pecans, and apple-ginger dressing was perfectly balanced and refreshing. We also had the pappardelle with braised rabbit, pancetta, swiss chard, pecorino, and thyme, and it’s easy to see why this dish put Gemma on the map. It was deeply flavorful and beautifully executed. The steak frites with Texas Wagyu butcher’s cut, herb salad, and chimichurri was the standout of the night. Hands down, it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had in my life. From the service to the food, Gemma delivered an unforgettable dining experience. We can’t wait to come back.
The hype is real. Walk in and they greet you with warm raisin scones—fluffy, sweet little hugs slathered in incredible butter that’s creamy, rich, and basically dessert on its own Those scones were SOOOO good, I could’ve made a meal of them Don’t sleep on the fried Castelvetrano olives stuffed with Texas pecans. I dont even like olives and I kept throwing these down. Crispy, briny, nutty addiction in every bite Rabbit pappardelle is a signature for a reason. Was unsure given I havent had a ton of rabbit.. but wo Also outstanding was the hamachi crude.. brown butter trout The desserts were OK.. bit underwhelming. We didnt finish ours since they weren’t winning any awards.. not worth the calories! Shout out to our server Paige who was super attentive and a rockstar Overall, cozy vibe, sharp service, clear signal why this got the Michelin Bib. Solid neighborhood gem at its finest
Exceptional service. I felt everyone, including the host went up and beyond to give us such a memorable experience. The cocktails. The appetizers. The pasta. Everything was delicious. I will be back.
5 stars all around! From Phill greeting us at the door and making sure we have a great table, to our waiter making my husband’s cocktail drink just right, everything was done exceptionally well. The food was fantastic! We started with a shrimp cocktail, followed by the rigatoni with spicy sausage and ended with the steak frites (medium) cooked perfectly. I’d 100% recommend Gemma for a date night or taking clients! We will be back!
Great service, lovely atmosphere. The meal started with fresh scones. We had hand-made pastas, brussels sprouts, and duck-fried tater tots, and everything was phenomenal. The cocktails were also delicious.
Excellent food, fantastic service, and good vibes. 10/10 will be returning. Extra thanks to Brett and the bar staff! Edit: came back for an anniversary and the experience was wonderful again. Carlos at the bar was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious
My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary at Gemma. Everything was perfect and we couldn't be happier with our experience. Our server was Kelly and she knew the menu inside and out, recommended top choices based on what we wanted, and was very attentive. There are so many great options that we didn't get try at our time there so we'll definitely be back to experience those.
Amazing experience! Service level is top tier from beginning to the end!!! All the food was great, we had the ribs for an app, the steak fries and fries and the rabbit pappardelle, which was the best thing ever! Amazing service from manager Emilia, and our waiter Austin, even the person who called to verify our reservation and ask if we were celebrating anything special and if we had any dietary restrictions... It was a birthday dinner, so they had a signed card waiting there for us when we arrived. You can't go wrong here, this place is amazing an I will be back!
Very good. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would. The restaurant itself is pleasant - it's upscale but not stuffy at all. Service was excellent - attentive, not overbearing, and a small issue we had was handled with zero fuss at all. We shared a burrata dish as an appetizer - it was fantastic - unique and made with great touch. The entrees were solid and met our expectations at this price point - the duck breast (advertised as cooked to medium) was cooked to medium and was quite tasty - if you prefer your duck rare it might not meet your expectation. The filet au poivre (ordered medium rare - came out a touch over but wasn't quite medium) was very good. We also ordered some broccolini as a side, and it was very good. Drinks were great. Dessert wasn't their strong suit. We ordered the chocolate cake (huge portion but very dry - was sent back and removed from the bill without question - the waitress was very understanding and didn't seem surprised), and a very weird pana cotta dish - I love weird desserts, and this one almost worked - it was campari flavored with blood orange cream and coriander brittle (I think - it was a few weeks ago) - I think the liqueur flavor was a bit too intense on this, and as strange as the coriander brittle sounded it worked pretty well. The portion was excessive for one - good for sharing. I don't regret my choice but I'm sure the tiramisu would have been tastier. Overall it was very good and I will strongly consider returning on future visits to the area.
Tyler and Isabella served me and they were super sweet and attentive! Came on a Friday night when it was a little busy and still was well taken care of. Try the Sangiovese it’s delicious!
The Knox/Henderson area just keeps growing and Gemma is a great addition to the area. There are so many restaurants to choose from in Dallas and after our experience, Gemma was an excellent choice. We enjoyed the seafood platter, rigatoni alla vodka, fried quail, french fries & the gianduja tart while enjoying several glasses of cremant de limoux rose. Dinner was great and made even better by the great service that we received from Tyler P. I did not know the dress code and while I arrived in a very nice short romper, jeans and a nice blouse would have sufficed.
Gemma went above and beyond to make my partner’s 40th birthday special. The food was amazing, but the service was insanely special. If I could rate 10/10 I would. Thank you thank you thank you for being so accommodating and proving top notch service from beginning to end.
Always our favorite! Went this past Saturday night and food and service were amazing as always! Seated immediately when we arrived and the waiter recommended a great bottle of Champagne which was delicious. Service was very efficient but not rushed and food was spectacular! Overall great place for a date night!!!
Uno de mis lugares favoritos. Bien sea para ir solo por una copa, o a cenar. Todo es una delicia!
Delicioso todo me encanto
Excelente en sabor y atención
Ambiance and service is really good. I went to celibrate my Anniversary, they did put a card with our name and felt little nice. They do take full order and serve it course by course but it's little slow. I ordered cauliflower and duck, really loved both of them but my wife's pasta were too sour and lacked seasoning. Overall a good place to go.
Fried Olives, Rabbit, Baby Octopus, and Wild Boar! This place had one of the more unique dinning experiences I’ve had in my life. As you can see from my opening sentence, they offer a variety of interesting but delicious food. Unlike some restaurants that just try to offer rare selections, this place actually knows how to elevate the flavors which just next level. Must haves are the fried olives, gemeli, and Texas heat cocktail (unreal). BREAD SERVICE!!!! I almost forgot, this place has arguably the best bread I have ever had before a meal. The kicker is… they only give you one. But if you layer in the butter good, that one piece of bread can be your holy grail.
Gemma was good. Our reservation via Resy somehow got cancelled so we could only sit at the bar. The bartenders were excellent and helpful. The dish I came for after perusing menus online was no longer offered as the season menu has just changed the day before. That said, our server gave us complimentary muscles. They were good. We also got the burrata which was excellent! I had the braised rabbit pasta and my husband has seafood plate. He loved it! Mine was good - not great. We ended with the semifredo which was good too. The prices were high, and with that in mind, this place was good - but nothing to write home about.
Tried it for the first time today to celebrate a birthday. The service was great, Chad, our server was nice and attentive. Atmosphere was pretty casual and the place was clean. Parking is limited but they do have a valet, so bring cash to tip them. I had the crab salad and the steak. The salad was okay but was still pretty refreshing. The steak was good, seasoned well, and cooked as ordered. People are raving about the scones and they are not lying, these scones are crazy good. I had a good experience but there was something missing with the food, I felt like I could go to a local chain restaurant and taste the same meal, I probably need to try something else next time.
Very nice California kitchen ambience. Very helpful and friendly staff. The fried olives are great. The duck confit is a must with great flavor. However when it was first presented, the inside was cold so we ask them to heat it up then it came perfect. The bread pudding and root vegetables on the duck confit plate were very yummy as well. The mussels and shrimp curry was too salty and it definitely needs rice to go with. However they don’t offer rice. Chef said that they put too much salt today and it was an oversight. They are really kind to take it off the check. I then ordered beef cheek and it was very good with creamy mashed potato. Kids loved their pappardelle pasta with rabbit meat. I was not super excited about their dessert. The presentation was 5 star but the texture/taste was 3.5. I didn’t like chocolate with peanut butter. But if you like peanut butter, this might be your thing. I have to say that the service was superb. We will definitely return.
Came here to celebrate an anniversary and they were so kind! Had a card signed by their whole team. Service was on point throughout the dinner. Got the burrata, tagliatelle, pork secreto, peach cobbler desert. The pasta was my favorite dish of the dinner. Felt like the pork was interesting but the steak/other protein frites at other tables looked better. Airy and bright atmosphere. Worth trying out!
Gemma will always do the job. The ambience is great with everyone nicely dressed, service is great, and the food is very good as well. Opt for the steaks and the rabbit Pappardelle is close to authentic to what you can get in Italy. A nice stop to have on a very lively street near Knox-Henderson.
The food was incredible. Austin recommended outstanding dishes that were absolutely delicious. Gabby, our server, was exceptionally sweet. My favorite dishes were the ravioli, steak frites, and, of course, the scones! I deducted one star due to Phil's poor customer service, but despite that, the overall service we received was excellent.
We stopped by Gemma without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised at how quickly we were seated. The restaurant has a charming outdoor patio that adds to the cozy atmosphere. For starters, we ordered the Heirloom Beets. Personally, I wasn’t a fan of the mint finish,. For mains, I tried the Sakura Pork Secreto — it was just okay and not something I’d order again. My partner, however, had the Grass-Fed Bavette Steak and it was excellent — tender, flavorful, and absolutely worth coming back for. The real highlight was dessert. We shared the Crème Brûlée with vegan coconut ice cream, and it was out of this world — creamy, decadent, and perfectly balanced. A must-try! On top of the food, the service stood out. I have a dairy sensitivity, and our server was incredibly thoughtful and accommodating with my dietary needs, which made the experience even better. Overall, Gemma delivers a wonderful dining experience with standout dishes (especially the steak and dessert) and warm, attentive service. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Dallas!
Gemma – 4.5⭐️ Had an excellent dinner at Gemma on Saturday. Our waiter, Anthony, was fantastic! Very friendly, attentive, and really added to the experience. The meal started with warm scones served with salted butter, and they were absolutely delicious. We tried the fried olives and pecans, burrata, and hamachi crudo. All were outstanding and full of fresh, clean flavor. I ordered the Filet au Poivre for my main course, and it was one of the best filet mignons I’ve had in Dallas. Perfectly cooked, tender, and served with great frites and creamed spinach. For dessert, we split an apple crisp and gianduja chocolate tart that were both good, though not the highlight compared to the rest of the meal. Overall, Gemma is a gem of a spot with great food, friendly service, and a cozy, elevated vibe. I’ll definitely be back!
The staff was amazing and super nice and accommodating. Feels like a lot of salt and cream and/or cheese added to things to enhance taste. Same issue as many nicer restaurants in Dallas where food is pretty average and not worth the splurge.
This restaurant is a very good one for the Dallas / Lower Greenville neighborhood. We started with the Maine oysters which were excellent, accompanied by a red wine mignonette which was to die for, as well as the beef carpaccio which was excellent. We ordered a bottle of Wilamette Valley Pinot Noir which was good but it would have been nice to have the sommelier come over when offered by waitstaff. After 20 minutes we just decided to pick on our own which was fine but definitely not Michelin level attentiveness. Between appetizers and entrees they brought scones, one house-made Asiago and another that was raisin flavored I thought they were excellent served with whipped butter which was nice. I ordered the Skirt Steak for my entree which came with shrimp fried rice and a green onion nuoc cham to blend the surf and turf together which I thought was great. My partner ordered the filet au poivre which was also excellent. Lastly we got the haricots verts a shareable side and it was the best thing I think we had all night! I will say service here is very slow, waitstaff did not check on us but 3 times throughout the whole meal and the food did take some time to come out which is why this gets 4 stars for me.
Super nice staff. We LOVED the scones that we got in the beginning for free. So warm and the butter was very lovely. Great way to start the meal. The Mussel Escabeche was great with a warm buttery bread and vinaigrette sauce with mussels. Great starter. The akaushi rib eye was NOT good. Major skip because it was marbled poorly.
Gemma feels cozy yet sophisticated—perfect for an evening out. I had the seared scallops with corn purée and a seasonal salad. Each plate was bright, light, and beautifully seasoned. The scallops were caramelized just right. The wine list is well-curated, and service strikes that balance between friendly and polished. Comfortable, consistent, and deeply satisfying.
Dinner for Four on a Saturday Night Food: • Scone – Served warm and made a nice starter. We wished they offered more than just one per person. • Wagyu Beef Carpaccio – Fresh, but didn’t stand out in flavor or presentation. • Watermelon Gazpacho – Light and refreshing, perfect for a warm evening. • Mussels Escabeche – Packed with flavor; the grilled bread was a great touch. • Pappardelle – Fresh pasta but unfortunately lacked depth in both flavor and texture. • Duck Frites – Nicely seasoned and cooked well. • Cajun-Spiced Ribeye – Cooked to the right temperature but under-seasoned. The plating, especially with the onion rings, felt a bit odd and could use a more refined presentation. • Duck fat tater tot - I simply don’t get it. I’d rather eat a normal tater tot with truffle aioli. Texture wasn’t great. Service: The service left something to be desired. We asked for more scones and were told each table could get two rounds, but the second round never came. Our gazpacho arrived without spoons, and when we asked for the drink menu, the server forgot. He may have been new, but overall, the service felt disorganized and inattentive.
Gemma still finds a way to shine even during Covid. I stopped by for some takeout this afternoon and was very happy with what I ordered. The quail paired with corn was amazing and the heirloom tomato salad was on the same level. Hopefully in the future I can make a trip back when we can finally eat inside again. The second trip in wasn't as eventful. The food was okay, the price is a little high in my opinion. The service was lackluster, I did see others around me getting a little better treatment but it was still not great. I'd maybe return in the future.
My husband and I were looking forward to dinner here with all the great reviews. That was not our experience. Our waiter seemed to be too busy to provide good service. The Watermelon gazpacho was excellent! The wedge salad was also really good! However, the duck breast and the pappardelle were average at best. The chocolate tart was truly lacking in flavor and the cherry crisp was like nice cherry jam put in an oatmeal crisp with ice cream, nothing special! Also, this space is really loud! We were disappointed.
We were here on a double date and we all ordered different items. Service was flawless and exceptional, ambiance was very nice. The experience started strong with a complimentary biscuit that was phenomenal but the appetizers and entrees that my partner and I ordered plateaued in taste for us. Our couple friends were completely blown away by their order and were raving throughout the dinner service. We didn't share our plates so I can't speak to the caliber of their food, but we definitely had very different dining experiences. We might try to come back and order something else due to the variance in experience, but it wouldn't be a priority for us.
The service and space was nice, but I was a bit disappointed with the food. I had the paper plane cocktail and thought it was good. I ordered the fried olives and pecans and was surprised by how plain it was, literally just fried olives and almost burnt pecans, just didn't do it for me. Then I got the trout almondine. It was fine, but the sauce was pretty much just straight up browned butter and they put so many almonds on it.Overall I think I found the food a bit plain and too straightforward. But I did like our server and the cocktail.
We went to Gemma for Valentine's Day this year. The last time we came here was our first Valentine's Day together in 2020. We were really excited especially since they won a Michelin star last year. But overall the experience was pretty disappointing. Our server was nice enough but wasn't really helpful and didn't really guide our experience like you would expect at an upscale dining establishment. Honestly she barely spoke to us, didn't guide us through the menu, didn't really explain the drink options, she just took our order and moved on. My husband got an old fashioned that he liked, I started with a mocktail since I was driving, it was a basil ncucumber mocktail and it was incredibly sour. I may have gone with something else but when I asked the server I was told there was a basil cucumber or blood orange, again with very little details I figured basil cucumber was a good option. I drank it but it mostly tasted like tart infused water. We ordered an extra appetizer at the beginning of the meal, caviar tater tots. Again they weren't well explained, but I'm really glad we did order it because it was likely the best thing we had. For our first course on the pre fixe I got the salmon tartare which was lack luster. It really didn't have much flavor at all. My husband had the chicken liver mouse and he said it was good 7.5/10 for him. For the second course we both got the charred octopus dish. The dish was very one note, the octopus wasn't charred at all and all the elements kinda blended together. For the entree we both got the braised pork cheek. The cheek was tender and the polenta was cooked perfectly, but again the dish was one note. Like it was missing acid or something to set off the richness of the dish. For dessert my husband got the brownie and I got the semifreddo to go. The brownie he said was fine but nothing special. I haven't eaten the semifreddo yet. We left full but mostly disappointed. I understand it's a holiday and it's a big day of the year but when your bill including tip is almost $500 at a Michelin star restaurant, it feels pretty deflating to have such a lack luster experience
I was excited to try Gemma after hearing great reviews about the food, so I brought a few girlfriends to the bar for some drinks. We considered getting some light snacks, but were instantly deterred by the absolute awful smell coming from the bar. We overheard that the bar had flooded right before we got there, so I guess that explains the smell. I can’t imagine how a restaurant with such great reviews is dealing with these types of health code issues and still welcoming people to sit at the bar and sending cocktails out of a filthy bar. Cute little restaurant, but we will not be back.
We went here for a birthday which was indicated on the reservation. The drinks were great, but the food was mediocre. We ordered fairly popular items, but there’s nothing here that another restaurant in Dallas isn’t already doing better at a fairer price point. For $27, the pasta should be comparable to places like Monarch, Carbone, or Lucia. Overall, the food had no flavor. We were seated late. I watched as other tables received complimentary bread that we were not offered. Our server did not offer us the special of the night or an off menu drink mentioned on social media. Our order was put in incorrectly, and we didn’t receive anything to eat until at least 40 minutes after we arrived. For the price point, the service was underwhelming. Many of these things are excusable, but in combination they make for a disappointing night.
