Either indoor or outdoor, this bar always has a nice enviornment. The music is great and the drinks are decently priced. My favorite thing to eat here is the Mac and Cheese Burger. It makes for the perfect drunk meal. Always has me coming back.

One of the best bars in Denton! They have a large patio plus plenty of seating inside with a pool table and darts. They have a good selection of draft beers and several pitchers you can order too. I'd definitely recommend the bacon cheese fries!

Just went here for the first time after moving the Denton and I have to say it's a really cool bar to go hang out with friends and get a great bite to eat. They have a few games that you can play such as pool or darts with friends. The manager and bartender that I talked to a really cool we chatted for a little bit and they were very pleasant to talk to. Food-wise I got the Friday deal which comes with a cheeseburger with your choice of cheese along with seasoned fries which you can choose either to be curly fries or waffle fries. The burger was really good and cook just the way I liked it and the fries were phenomenally tasty. Whatever seasoning they put on that really enhance the flavor of the crispy waffle fries I got. Even better this only costed me $5 which for what you're getting is hell of a good deal. Definitely recommend checking it out it's a great place to go with a few friends and just have a good time and get a couple of drinks and something good to eat.

The foosball table was broken for several months but George the new manager taught himself all about table maintenance and has vowed to fix it whenever any new problems arise, very impressed with this guy. Specials are still the best on Fry. I've been told they have several new menu items for the new semester also and the food has always been great. Definitely back in the running for best fry bar in my book.

Great dive bar. It's really not divey, but simple college bar. I don't care to hang out on Fry... I'm a little old for it. But when I need a quick, satisfying lunch and a cold beer, I come here. A great escape from campus stress. The patio soaks up the sun. Their staff is always the kindest. Their burgers and waffle fries are all I eat here. Nom.

Update: George, the new manager, and I have spoken and he has FIXED THE FOOSBALL TABLE. That was my number one concern, and him taking the time to learn and fix the foosball table for my boyfriend and I has made me realize a new respect for Cool Beans. He told me they have new food items on the menu and I am excited to try them out. Thank you to the upper management for restoring the Cool Beans I knew and loved. This used to be one of my favorite bars, but recently they have really declined. I played foosball there almost everyday. A few months ago someone broke the table, and I had several bartenders tell me it was being fixed the next day. Over FOUR MONTHS later, it's even more broken than it was in the beginning! I still have bartenders telling me it's being fixed tomorrow. Tonight, I went there with a friend for some food to go. We went well before the kitchen was closed, but they still took almost 30 minutes (we counted, it was 27 minutes total) until we got our food. We were seated right next to the bar, and we noticed our food in the window for about 10 minutes before they brought it out to us. Again, the bar was not very busy tonight when we were there. I have been very disappointed with the service that I have been receiving over the past few months, and I will not return until things change. I have heard rumors that this place is going out of business, and if it is, I will look forward to the day that someone else comes in and makes this the great bar it used to be.

Posting this super late, but there was a afternoon a couple weeks ago and I wasn’t feeling the greatest, but the staff was there to be there for me and listen to me until I felt better from my anxiety attack and when my uber showed up. Still appreciative of the fries and the water! Also all in all a 10/10 atmosphere being here when I’m with my friends. Love love Cool Beans sm💚💚💚

Small place but cool ambience. Not too pricy and they do have good staff. Whenever I visit my Denton friends, we always go to this place. And for one important thing I prefer this place because it's dog friendly.

Probably my favorite bar on Fry. They have cheap, good pitchers, and specials every night. I'll usually come here with friends just for fun or for birthdays. Service is good. Have not had a bad experience here. The food isn't bad, I haven't actually ordered anything here myself, but I've tried from what friends have ordered and haven't been disappointed. The bathrooms are cool also, with the blackboard walls and chalk.

Wish people would stop destroying the bathrooms. This place means so much to me, I love the atmosphere, the drinks, and the people. To me, there's no other bar i'd want to be at.

The vibe of this place smacked me in the face when I walked through the door. Ramiro was the best bartender. I was so lucky to get served by him again coincidentally I got to see him last year on my birthday!! He has always guided me in the right direction learning all the yummy shots. The other day my car battery died when I was trying to get home from class and he helped jump it. Thank you Ramiro and Cecily. I cannot express my thanks enough to every person that works here. The food is also so scrumptious, had the thanksgiving burger when I had no thanks giving plans and the whole staff was so welcoming that day even though they had to be at work. COME DRINK AT BEANS.

Cool Beans is a nice place to hang out with friends and have a drink. There are two places there to sit. For someone who like indoors low ambient lights with a peg in his hand, its for them. For someone who like outdoors, especially the breeze and fresh air after sunset also a DJ, this place is for her too. You have good options in bar. Vegitarions also has veg burgers on list. Overall a nice place to spend quality time with your friends.

Great food for a bar, really good drinks, nice drink specials. Service was awesome and quick. The chicken tenders tossed in that Sriracha blend sauce, the nachos, and the burgers are all very tasty.

The pitcher/appetizer combos are bomb, and well worth the $12/$14 depending on which drink/app combo you prefer. Only giving it 4 stars because a few months ago I stopped by and handed them my ID. She let my friend in, but when she checked my ID she almost didn't let me in based of the fact my ID says I'm 5'10" and she didn't want to believe I was 5'10". I understand she was just doing her job which is why I still rated them highly. However, as someone who is TABC certified, anyone can put any height on their Texas issued ID so it is not a valid way to determine if someone is who they say they are. I'm actually 5'10", and it was obvious because I literally towered over her. If she had wanted me to pull down my mask to my photo ID with my actual face I wouldn't have been so bitter. But as a 27 year old who comes here frequently it was a little disheartening to have to argue the validity of my ID based solely on my height.

Cool beans is a very quaint dive, but has great beers on tap, a good staff and is a good escape from the crowd and noise at other bars on Fry. Great place to go if you actually want to talk to the people you're hanging out with.

Nice bar but that face/ id check control is ridiculous. It was even more friendly at the USSR customs back in a days. But other than that, very good. Also, maybe the music could be little less loud. I almost lost my voice by the end of our conversation.

Bummer that the bathrooms require a small outside trek, but the food & service on Christmas Eve was fantastic. Very delicious, & more than just your average taps. This will be a new tradition.

Let's not try to fool anyone, this place is a dive. But, for what it is, it's pretty good. The food is really great, and the staff is good on most nights. Go on Fridays for $5 Burger/Fries. You'll enjoy it.

The bartender you get really makes the place. Great place to dive into for Sunday brunch and some games. I feel like sometimes you can get an employee who cranks the music way too loud but that's pretty uncommon. Kacey is great! Oh also it's a pretty dog friendly place which is a big bonus.

A great small time bar. Perfect for lounge drinking or engaging in the games (billiards or darts) for groups. The outdoor seating and bar make for a good option on those windy days or quiet still nights. Definitely a good spot.

Probably the best bar on fry street, but don't waste your money on playing a song on the jukebox. They say don't kill the vibe, but what they really mean is if it isn't the worst thing you've ever heard, they'll just steal your money and skip it even if you tip well.

This is dive bar with cheap drinks and pool tables. Also it's a pretty great patio to hang out on. Although I would drink here on any weekday for a quick drink, I wouldn't take a date here until we were pretty drunk already. Also, they have decent bar food.

Always a fun time at Cool Beans. Must stop on your bday. Prices are fair and the drink selection is quite diverse. One time I had a bad order of queso here. It was cold and when queso is cold, it's just hard cheese. So you couldn't dip chips in there. Besides that one time, I would come here to get the specialty drink pitchers anytime. They have a pretty good selection of beer as well at a good price. Would love to see a renovation done here sometime in the near future!

This is definitely a place and it places. Food is okay, staff is okay, and the atmosphere is okay. I tand to sit outside so that is a bit quieter however they blast the music so loud outside it is hard to have a conversation even with somebody sitting directly next to you. Also don't order soft drinks. They either never clean their bar gun or there is something wrong with it as my vodka soda had a strong off-putting taste and so did the water I ordered. I asked for another water because it tasted really bad and the second one tasted exactly the same.

Came for karaoke on Sunday (barely found out about) and they pick favorites and let the same person sing 8 times. I got bumped down since 11pm to 1am waiting on a song. Just fyi, love the place tho!! It's great besides that one thing. 😁

I myself have not even been here but friends of mine from Denton have described his place as a sort of food haven, surprisingly tucked into a bar. They’ve described the place as having crazily cheap food ($1 per wing, $3 double shots, $3 huge amount of curly fries, $1 shots on special nights, etc.).

Bar tenders can sometimes be pissy, don’t expect them to be nice when you want to ask for specials. HOWEVER cool beans has great $2 doubles 9-11 everyday compared to fry. They do trivia on some nights and have excellent food. Kitchen closes at 12:00 am so keep that in mind. If you have a group of 3 or more getting a pitcher is recommended unless you don’t like mixed drinks, then go for a $2 lone star.

I know you gotta ID the hell out of everyone being right on UNT, but the fetching drinks for your friends from the bar policy blows. Get better security and let your patrons just enjoy their time without having to go through a whole Cold War bread line just to get a pitcher for four.

This place is clean and has solid service. The people sanitize the table after someone leaves everything is very clean. It's just not my type of place but I know if I go there I will always get good service.

It's a good place to get a burger and a drink on certain days when the other bars are crowded all the time. It really depends on the bartender working when the service is concerned: I've had a really good and friendly bartender who got to me as soon as he could and was very kind. Then, I've had a bartender who skipped over my girlfriend after she had been waiting to get a drink to a group of sorority girls who just walked in and got their drinks first. He was rude to her the whole time we were there and it was just ridiculous. I wish I could remember the names so I can point out who to avoid and who to order from. Also, if you want to hang out or meet a lot of younger people, it's not the best bar for that. A lot of older, very chill people go there. But if that's your crowd, then it's a good bar!

Unnecessarily combative doorwoman. I hold a commercial DL from out of state. When I handed it to her, she demanded a second form of ID, a debit card, she recommends. I asked what the issue with my license is, and instead of answering the question, she says to me "When somebody at a bar asks you to do something, it's better to just go with it." I ask again what the problem is, and she says the normal identifiers she looks for aren't there. Understandable, as it's a CDL from out of state. I get it. But then she says to me "things generally work better when you're nice to people" as if me asking what the problem is is being mean. Not called for. She lets me in, thankfully, but definitely with a grudge, and yells at me as I'm walking away. All the while, I'm confused at what elicited this kind of reaction as all I wanted to know was why my CDL, which outranks every ID I could carry except my US passport, was not valid enough for entry on its own. I've been to many bars over several years and I'm a repeat customer of this one, in fact, yet I have never been asked for a second form of ID. I had no other problems with any other staff; they were all very kind and the drinks were well prepared as I remember them to be. But please, get rid of this doorwoman. I felt shamed and power-tripped by her actions. She is rude, combative, and treats anyone who dares ask a simple question with malice. 100% not Cool Beans.

Cool Beans.... "cool" if you want to get hounded on how you're drinking your drinks. Ordered a pitcher of the watermelon tequila concoction and someone came over and told us to stop drinking out of the pitcher. Which is fine. Maybe you should supply CLEAN glasses to drink from, not disgusting ones. But then my husband posted a picture of me on Instagram (see attached), sitting at our table and someone immediately sent him a message telling him to take the picture down. We left after about 5 minutes, didn't finish our drinks. Felt like there were too many rules to follow. Just go to Lucky Lou's. Better service and drink specials over there.

This place looks so nice and I’ve been wanting to have a try. So I went for a late night hungry, ordered a burger but it was not fresh and the bun is kind dark (black color). But the drink was good!!

As someone who has been in the food service industry for several years, I like to visit bars and restaurants several times before leaving any sort of review: I believe that one bad server or one bad experience isn't always representative of an establishment's quality, and I like to give a place several chances before making any judgements. That said, I have been to Cool Beans about 5 or 6 times over the last month, on different days of the week and different times of day. My boyfriend and I have tried out the pitchers, sampled the food, and ordered shots on different occasions: the shots have always been great, the food delicious, and the pitchers a great deal for the money. We've played pool, foosball, and darts together while enjoying the great music that always seems to be playing. However, we will probably not be returning to Cool Beans. What has killed it for us is that there have only been two or three employees (that we have personally encountered) that have given us decent service. With very rare exceptions, we have both been treated poorly by the staff here: we've been audibly scoffed at and had eyes rolled at us for asking questions about the menu, and one staff member in particular has repeatedly slammed food and drinks down on our table (or the bar, respectively) without looking at us or saying a word -- this has been pretty puzzling to the both of us since we routinely tip at least 40%, always make an effort to be kind and polite to staff, clean up after ourselves, and don't make any sort of ruckus or fuss. I'll dearly miss the pitchers and mac-and-cheese burger, but there are plenty of other bars in the area that offer better customer service where I'd rather spend my money.

I’ve heard good things about cool beans but my experience wasn’t so great. The margarita I ordered was not frozen. It was mainly liquid. The new girl had to ask her coworker if it was okay that it wasn’t slushy and he said yes but admitted that it wasn’t slushy.They also didn’t have strawberry flavoring for some reason, which is weird because isn’t that the most popular flavor? So I ended up paying $5 for a melted margarita. The food is overly fried and way too greasy. I will admit that it was my fault for ordering a patty melt and splitting fried pickles with my friend. Either way, that alone made me feel sick. I only managed to get 2 bites of my patty melt before feeling sick. I also wasn’t expecting the burger to be so small. I think it was roughly $15-17 dollars, which was a complete waste. My friend got the sliders but she didn’t have any complaints. The lime on my margarita was also really old because it was starting to turn brown and tasted funky because it sat out in room temperature for longer than it should’ve. If you’re sensitive to greasy food I wouldn’t recommend ordering food from here. The margarita will also be disappointing so don’t expect much. Also the floor inside was sticky and smelt weird so idk what’s up with that. The new girl also wasn’t helpful at all.

Thia is the first review I've ever written so that should say something about my hate; By far the worst bar on fry street. I live in the apartments near by and on several occasions have asked them to turn down the music, I try not to be unfair and understanding that it's a college campus but.... 1) turns the volume up to the point it rattles my walls/window 2) they leave the music on over night frequently for me to wake up to at 5:30 am (the exact thing happened which caused me to write this) 3) when they remember to turn off the tunes, they do so at 3am when the last employee leaves and then on again at 9am when they start to prep the bar for opening. The food is widely mediocre, the pricing can be beat at other bar's, and other bars have more to do in them, they have nothing original to offer besides loud noises. In short, go to hell Cool Beans. You made me lose sleep and miss classes and I wish you the worst.

Confiscated my friend's ID (which is illegal to do) proceeded to kick him out and we had to wait for the cops to roll up and clear his name. This place used to be great but a lot has changed :/ Edit: it's been a few years, the idiots who did this don't seem around last i checked. reading the other reviews they seem to keep hiring stressed out/generally unhappy people so idk

Took my buddy’s real ID because it was from Washington and they thought it was fake. They “called the cops” to verify it, so we waited for them to show up. They realized they messed up so they apologized and gave it back, LOL. They looked so stupid it was almost cringey. The idiots kept us waiting for 15 minutes. Train your bouncers. Train your bartenders. It’s not difficult. You’re straight up embarrassing yourselves.

I used to love going to cool beans, but this one specific bartender (with blonde hair & glasses) was so RUDE; it was the first bar of the night for my friends and I. Meaning it was our first drinks of the night. The bartender just ruined the vibe for us, and I've heard other issues from others with this bartender… now I just go to Riprocks or any other place on fry.

we were being followed; while the two men that worked there where very nice to take us out of that situation but the lady with the pink dye hair didn’t care to see if the men were still following us after overhearing the bartender updating us about the men following us. she just said she had to sit there cause it was her job when all we asked her to do was turn around to see if the men were still following us. thank u for the men helping in that situation, but clearly the girl wasn’t a girls girl and tried to help us one bit.

Food is good, but truly, there is something wrong with the beer on draft here. Tried the modelo and coors banquet. Both were flat. The coors also tasted wrong. Came back about 2 weeks later and same problem. Nicely told the bartender about the issue cause I really liked this place before covid and I really want them to improve. Bartender got triggered and took the criticism really bad. Not sure why she'd take the beer being flat so personal. We know it's not her fault. Oh well.

The venue itself is nice but they seriously need new management. The tall blonde (manager?) in particular. Instead of telling my partner we would have to watch the band from the sidewalk (one of us turns 21 in a month) she went out of her way to raise her voice at us, storm towards us and accuse us of smoking weed while we sat on the sidewalk and mentioning the cops? (I was just smoking a cigarette) while not saying anything to our other friends that joined us sitting on the hot sidewalk. We drove over an hour to support my friend's first performance, its totally okay for us to not be on the premises and stand outside the gate. It is not okay to treat anyone this way and the fact she didn't say anything to our other friends and raised her voice at us a second time makes me feel like this was because he was wearing a pride mask. I'm incredibly disappointed in the staffing choices here and how even outside of the premises they went out of their way to yell at us until we left early since she was being so harsh and we both have extreme anxiety from transphobic experiences in public. Please treat people with respect.

After a couple of drinks at Lucky Lou’s, we went to Cool Beans to have a drink to experience the venue since my husband and I have been wanting to try this place out for awhile , only to be told by the gatekeeper that “she wasn’t comfortable letting us in” after showing our IDs. My husband and I were rather confused by being turned away ... but we were accepted into the next bar we went to for a last drink. Not quite sure what happened there, but extremely disappointed we were turned away. Maybe we will try again in the future, but not any time soon.

Worse experience ever. “Manager” on duty tonight was racist to my friend for simply asking why she was not being served and other were getting their drinks. The so called “manager” got my friend kicked out of the bar for voicing her concern. The two other individuals that were served before my friend were white and my friend Hispanic. I would definitely will never come back to this bar or recommend anyone coming to this bar where employees don’t bother to ask what exactly happened and just kick anyone out because an unprofessional “manager” asked to do so. This establishment should reconsider having his “manager” which by the way was a female and white because she in my opinion shouldn’t represent this business - she provides poor customer and profesional service.

There is a reason there are so many poor google reviews about one specific bartender. There is a bartender who is chronically verbally aggressive, for absolutely no reason, and it is not cute or charming; off-putting is too kind of a word. Unless being verbally assaulted is your thing, highly recommend you avoid this place.

Rude bartender. She cut me off based on my disability. Curly black haired bartender cut me off because I was “stumbling”, however I’ve had multiple surgeries on my left foot that has caused me to have a limp. My fiancé tried to defend me, but she assumed she was being “rude”. We left immediately after. Will not be back. This review probably won’t do anything but it was an awful experience for all of us.

Purposely lost a pair of sunglasses and said “oops let me play my smallest violin”. That’s how you lose business 101 right there. Some BS. Called their number for 1 and a half hours and they did not answer because “the phone was dead”. In reality they didn’t plug it in because they did not want to hear it ring. Horrible service and utterly horrendous customer service based on things other than gettting drinks. Don’t depend of them for anything useful. Never coming back.

i have been to this bar many times during the several years i have lived in denton and i hate it so much. it stinks, the pitchers are ridiculously priced for very cheap liquor and mixer, and the staff is rarely hospitable. there are so many great bars in denton—you don’t have to settle for this one.

Wish i had more stars to give but the bartenders dont seem to enjoy their jobs... the "closing time" rendition of karaoke sang by a bartender was very aggressive and the female blonde bartender Nicki began yelling at me once I mentioned that it was a bad look. The one singing was her boyfriend so maybe she was defensive? To 'sing' at full volume for people to gtfo & that they dont tip at only midnight... super strange. As someone whos not a regular I hope you begin paying people more than $2/hr so their attitudes improve and they don't take it out on their customers!

I came in here on 7/11/2023 around 9pm and stayed till around 11:30pm and one of the bartenders was absolutely RUDE (she was wearing a green shirt). I got served by the bartender with glasses, wearing a black shirt and brown hair and she was amazing! My friends went the the bartender closest to the door and I felt bad for them as her attitude was disgusting. She made one of my friends drinks wrong and didn’t correct it. Dropped off food with an attitude. At the end of our night we went to close out and our friends didn’t tip 20% (I.e her service was just awful) and she had the audacity to ask “is there a reason you tipped under 20%?” EXCUSE ME?! I have worked in the food service industry/ bartending industry and you do not address that situation like that or at all, if she would’ve realized oh I made his drink wrong and delivered his food with an attitude then she would’ve understood why he tipped under 20%. I hope as an owner/ employee here this gets taken care of. That was uncalled for and disgusting behavior. A tip is earned, not expected. Other than that my bartender was amazing and sweet and we did tip her over 20%.

Terrible service. I experienced racism first hand here to the customers around me. And it’s 2019! The staff definitely brings their personal problems into the workplace because there is no other explanation to the unacceptable behavior I witnessed here tonight. If you are wondering, the racism was especially demonstrated from the “manager” of the bar(as she stated). If the restaurant cares even the slightest about their business they should really reconsider who they choose to represent their business. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. This location was only given 1/5 stars only because 0/5 isn’t an option. On the other hand, this would have been a great bar if it was 1775 when racism was acceptable. Hope this place runs out of business as it’s a shame to society.

This was once a really good place to come hang. They got new bartenders that are rude and the friendly faces have disappeared. Lunch used to be good, but they changed the menu and took a lot of the good items off. They rave about their dive brunch, but portions are extremely small and it’s not worth it. A good place to go for drinks at night but food, not so great (anymore) The jalapeño poppers are superb - would recommend 10/10

While at the bar, I do not know his name (he has long, blonde hair and is tall), let my friend know that he did not tip, and informed if he “would like to change that,” and handed the check back. My friend understood that he had gone without tipping, as he meant to tip $10. my friend was kind, calm, and changed the tip. While getting my own check, he informed me that additional gratuity was added to checks $70 and above. Unfortunately, this singular bartender is undertrained in service and kindness—he had a bad attitude and was unkind. I do not recommend this bar and will not be retuning.

I never thought I would live long enough to see Lucky Lous surpass Cool Beans in atmosphere. But the rude staff at Cool Beans changed that. I ordered a club soda but my friend planned on drinking more than one drink. The bartender made the assumption he was not drinking. Got mad about this perceived slight that was a misunderstanding and closed his tab for him. He was going to drink to drink lol. Until the bartender was rude to him for no reason. The bar was dead as the staff proceeded to loudly complain about every customer thats been in there including us, while we were still in there. Cool Beans is not safe from the same fate as Riprocks. And I see it following soon. See it while you can. Especially if you have a fetish for being treated bad. I don't so we did not stay long or buy as much as we planned. Skip Cool Beans and go to Lucky Lous. Better drinks, price and atmosphere. I do everyone in denton a favor by not drinking and I was willing to pay for my club soda especially if it means getting treated humanely by the staff. Never again and i have been going to Cool Beans since 2006.

My bad review is mainly due to the price, fry street is ridiculously expensive, me and my fiancé just wanted a shot and some cheese fries on our day out, and I knew cool beans had good cheese fries and use to have cheap shots. So we went there, i was charged $24 for 2 double vegas bombs, which didnt even give me a buzz what so ever. And their cheese fries are literally $20 for one order, i asked the girl at the bar if she knew anyone around with reasonably priced cheese fries and she claimed they had the cheapest around, it took me 1 minute to find much cheaper drinks and cheese fries at loophole on the square, idk what happened, frystreet use to be the place you go where food and drinks were cheaper then the square, it’s absolutely ridiculous and the corporate greed sickens me, $24 for a double vegas bomb…. How do you justify that?

The long haired male bartender was very rude when I just stopped in to see if a very drunk friend came into the bathroom. They were about to close up and there were only two other people inside. I asked if they saw someone going into the restroom and he responded. “I don’t know. I’m not in the restroom you need to leave.”

Me and several friends went to celebrate my partner's birthday to this bar on 11/02/2024. My partner got dizzy and ended up throwing up in the bathroom. A bartender followed us all the way from our table to the bathroom telling us to get out even though my partner wanted to throw up and needed to go to the toilet for that. Once my partner was in the toilet throwing up, the bartender opened the bathroom door and told us "you guys need to get out of the bar NOW!" with an extremely rude tone even though we were going to leave after going to the bathroom. She stood there looking at my partner throw up and when my partner finished and felt better waited for us outside of the bathroom telling us to get out once again. That is NO WAY to treat a customer, my partner was not being any kind of distraction or danger to anyone in the bar, she simply had a bad reaction to one of the shots that contained a high alcohol volume because she has metabolism problems, that's it. We continued the birthday party in another bar on Fry Street and everything was fine after we left Cool Beans. The bartender's attitude was completely uncalled for and rude. I am never going back to this bar and now that I left Denton, I wanted to leave a review so that others can know some of the bartenders operating in this bar are rude.
