We came at a quite time of day for lunch and were served promptly. The food was amazing and the service was also great.
great atmosphere, great cocktails and food. the main reason we came back to edinburgh was to get the alcoholic milkshakes from here. 10/10 recommend
Great place for a bit of food and drink. Good music always going on in the background
Urban retro styling with a great cocktail selection.
Quiet, relaxed atmosphere at time of our visit, but great location for a more lively night too! Food was INCREDIBLE and serving staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Fantastic evening with the girls in the private room. The staff were wonderful. Great room would definitely go again. Will try lunch soon.
I went to Sygn with my wife early this week and have to say it was one of the best eating experiences of my life! The bar/restaurant itself was very clean and tidy and decorated well. The staff were second to none, quite possibly the highest level of service there could be! And as for the food, well lets just say that I would rank as possibly the 3rd best experience of my life, behind my marriage and birth of my children (although depending on their behaviour on any given day it might slip into second place!!). I would highly recommend Sygn whether your looking for a bite to eat or just a nice place to grab a drink and if you do I would suggest the Depeche mode cocktail!
I really love this place. Amazing food and a really central location. The staff are always awesome and the drinks are pretty reasonable. That being said, they can be a bit slow with the ol' drinks order so make sure you grab someone's attention before they disappear into the nether again. There's always deals going on (I'm talking a burger and drink for xx amount on deal sites) so you're always best to check for those first. If not, it's still well worth the money.
I love the atmosphere and design of Sygn bar - it really is a beautiful bar! Every little detail has been thought of - even the way they present your food. I got an excellent itison deal (I love a good bargain!) for burgers and cocktails so look out for those! The pork/chorizo burger was delicious. The relish came in a little jar on the side - which can make eating a little bit more fiddly but is ideal if you came with a fussy eater like I did as they can choose whether or not to use it. I had a lovely gin and peach cocktail, the only complaint I have about it was that it wasn't bigger!
Great atmosphere, server couldnt have been more helpful or friendly yet not in your face and the food was AMAZING! Highly recommend the big smoke burger, fried chicken burger and haggis ping pongs! Will definitely be back!
If you're looking for the best burger in Edinburgh, look no further! Small but excellent selection of beef, chicken and veggie burgers matched with a brilliant drinks selection - a must visit when in Edinburgh.
Fantastic burgers. They do a deal on itison every now and again for burgers or pizza which gives you exceptional value for money. Some great cocktails too.
Oh. My. Days. By far,one if the best places I have been in. Staff are super friendly, cocktails are amazing and the food......the food is out of this world! Definitely making this place a regular thing!! 😍😍
Amazingly quick service from helpful staff. Great food that arrived fast and good sized portions. 50% off food made it great value. Try the Rum Daisy cocktail, one of the most beautifully balanced drinks I've ever had - my husband ordered one too!
I eat out at Sygn regularly and I am never dispointed. Good varied menu of burgers, pizzas, hot dogs, sandwiches, wraps and lots of sharers items. Their cocktails are lovely, easy to spend hours in here pouring over the cocktail menu. The surroundings are comfortable and trendy. Staff are lovely and always helpful, you can now book online too, which is handy as its always always busy!
Great burgers! Music slightly too loud for dining but very good otherwise.
Very popular bar focusing on food and cocktails, with many customers just going for the drink. Nice burger menu, but the cocktails are mind-blowing.
Nice food and good service. Only flaw was a friend asking for a non-alcoholic cocktail and still being charged £7.50 for it as if it were a regular cocktail.
Food was great, service good, nice cocktails. Nice place for cheap eats or a cocktail before going out.
A very American lard led menu of loaded fries and waffles and the like. Alongside a decent beer selection and good tunes. I had the chicken and waffles with loaded fries. Good fries. I could have eaten them twice. Waffle was a bit out of a packet but otherwise decent. Definitely worth a try.
I really like Sygn, and I have enjoyed visiting for Friday night drinks and for a quiet Tuesday dinner and cocktail night with friends. It has a convenient location tucked away in the West End (although I find the street a bit dirty and dodgy, although perfectly safe). Based on its location, it has West End cocktail prices but I love the extensive menu of a huge variety of interesting cocktails - some were quite ordinary but others were really delicious, interesting, and beautifully presented. The mocktails were definitely overpriced, which is really a shame, though. As for food, they brought around delicious samples of their pizza the first time I was there. The next time I was back I opted for the steak and cheese burger, which was delicious on a brioche bun. I thought the skinny fries didn't blow me away and could have been much better, but I really did like the burger.
Food us delicious with a bit of variety from the usual fare found in similar places. Cocktails are fantastic but a little on the small side for the price. What stopped me giving 5 stars was the fact that we went for something to eat late afternoon and had to shout at each other to be heard over the music, the dj kept turning it up and down, don't think he realised everyone was eating dinner not looking to dance.
Sygn is a popular cocktail bar in the west end of Edinburgh. We went on a Friday night after work and it was already busy, most of the tables were reserved however it was a nice evening so we got a table outside. The cocktail menu is great, very inspiring and difficult to choose! There is a £5 menu as well a the regular cocktail menu which start at about £7.50. I had a mango cocktail and it was lovely, it does take a little longer to get served however that is to be expected when the bar tenders are making so many cocktails. I did not try the food however it looked good, I don't think I would rush to specifically eat there but next time we may get some sharers or nibbles with the cocktails. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, the bar tenders knew a few tricks too.
Good bar for either lunch/dinner or just some drinks. Medium sized and with a separate private room that you can book for drinks (it also has a ping pong table in it). There is also some outdoor seating, although its not terribly pleasant sitting outside as you're really blocking the pavement and there's a fair amount of passing traffic. They offer cocktail making classes.
A stylish, contemporary bar in Edinburgh's West End. Think grey felt, oak and hand-crafted oversized lampshades by Kylaa. Decent value wine list and cocktails and a reasonable bar-menu. Nice for a quiet drink during the week. Beautiful staff with reasonable service, though more attention with table-service would be better.
Best burgers in Edinburgh!! That includes the beef and the chicken (haven't tried the others yet). So moist and flavorful and the perfect bun! Most other burger joints are let down by buns that are too doughy and overpowering or too dry and crumbly - but the Sweet, delicate brioche buns at Sygn are sheer perfection! I've brought visitors from Europe here and they felt it was the highlight of their visit - the cool setting and the great food at a great price was a great addition to their tour of Edinburgh. I was particularly impressed by their homemade (well home fried) nachos! OK maybe the chorizo isn't totally authentic but boy does it taste good - as does the fried halloumi on the generous tasting platter. So why only 4 stars? Service. Is usually always slow but sometimes even a bit complacent. As if they prefer to be a bar but... 'if you want food, I suppose we can serve it to you...if we must...' Shame because I think it has put some people off.
We’ve visited twice with ItIsOn vouchers for burgers and cocktails. They do a pretty good portabello mushroom burger, with *tons* of fries, and the cocktails we’ve tried have all been nice too. The decor is very, very hipster, and the staff have all been friendly, although not always speedy. I’d be interested to try other things on the menu.
We regularly go for drinks after work and it is always busy and good fun. Normally the staff are very friendly but I think we hit on a bad day though I would still say it was A-OK. Our waitress was very rushed and stressed and didnt really have time tobe very friendly. We had a deal for 2 pizzas and 2 cocktails which was great value from a voucher site called it's on I think. Our cocktails when they arrived were really nice but there were only 4 choices we could have chosen from which did limit you unfortunately. Our pizzas were huge and very nice. I had Crayfish, rocket and chilli which had tons of fish but definitely no chilli! I'll be back and hope to increase the rating soon...
Yummy burgers, crispy chips, good (yet ultimately forgettable) cocktails and friendly, well-meaning staff but with slightly disjointed service at times. Comfy, modern setting. Solid wee bar/restaurant, but nothing to write home about. Perfect Itison voucher stuff!
I booked a table via their website which was handy. I had a voucher from ITISON which gave us a great deal on 4 x burgers and cocktails for £26 instead of £60odd. They have recently re-decorated the place and it looks great. I had the portabello garlic mushroom burger and fries, it was delicious. I have only taken a star off as the veggie burger should have come with pesto but on enquiry, their pesto has parmesan in it which isn't veggie! Everything else was fantastic and we had a really great lunch out. Nice atmosphere and brilliant bar staff.
Sygn is usually the location for Friday-night post-work drinks, where there's enough choice to keep all of the office happy. There's the usually selection of beer and wine but it's the cocktail pitchers which are the most popular with the girls from work. These are generally a reasonable price considering the location, and whilst it's always busy, that only adds to the buzz and atmosphere. Staff are competent and as long as you can grab a table, it's a great place to spend the evening.
Food was decent, but a bit overpriced for what it is. Good to visit with groups as there's large tables. Nicely decorated inside, but the main drawback is the clientele - likely down to the geography, but still unpleasant.
Nice bar just off Charlotte Square. Nicely lit, with a range of lagers and trendy cocktails. A moderately sized seating area, coupled with a narrow bar, means it can fill up quickly.
They didn't have half of the cocktails. And the one I ordered brain freeze was on the £6 page but cost £8! Other than that cocktails were nice.
Went for lunch with a group from work. The food was nice and the soundtrack (80s/90s music with a beat) was fun. It was clean and comfortable. The service was friendly if a little slow, especially for an office lunch (and only a couple of other tables taken). It's not a place I'd take kids, with naked pin-up style graphics on the condiment bottles and even on the blackboard roof but it's a comfortable atmosphere for adults.
Great staff, nice food and good cocktails. I visited because of a Groupon offer which made it great value. But even normally it's not expensive for Edinburgh. I was really happy with the whole meal (the nachos were so good)... except the salad it was a sad show of shredded and diced lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber with a weak dressing, which was a shame.
Funky little burger place at the top of Princes St in a little cobbled lane. Been several times with Itison deals and had both beef and chicken burgers with fries and cocktails. Really good size portions. Other food looked good too especially nachos!
The staff are really friendly and attentive even when busy! They have a good range of cocktails and the food was really nice, although portions could maybe be a bit bigger given the price. Nice, lively atmosphere - there is a DJ so if you are after somewhere where you can chat comfortably I would maybe head somewhere quieter.
Food was a bit disappointing. Didn't have my first option and the substitute chicken burger was a bit dry and mean. Some of the other dishes my group got looked a little better, but I won't be rushing back
was here on friday and the barman actually stopped serving us half way through. he gave us a diet coke and then walked away - served various other people and started making up table orders before (17mins later) realising we'd been stood in front of him for a while he asked if we needed served... we told him he hadn't finished giving us our drinks and he lied that he'd 'asked someone else to make it', then proceeded to make them and give us them for free (his manager was watching our encounter) because 'he'd forgotten to serve us' it was all a bit Bizarre!! the staff are all very hipster, the clientele (on a friday at least) are more white collar. we often reserve the private room for work leaving/hen do's and the food is reasonably priced and enough variety to satisfy everyone's tastes. i recommend the starters/sides (i would rather have 2/3 than a main) and alcoholic milkshakes make a nice change from the extensive cocktail menu!
Tooooooo slooooooow! Frustrating, not busy, 3 people at the bar, but took the bartender 10 mins to make 2 cocktails. All I wanted was a pint. Nice vibe tho, and great IPA beers, but pricy as per other reviewers. Did not eat here; might have needed a sleeping bag to wait overnight.......
Pretty generic and somewhat soulless bar that's been in Edinburgh's westend for more than a decade. Still staff are friendly and none of the cocktails served were offensive, just bland.
I;ve been here a few times, sometimes for drinks, sometimes for food. The atmosphere is really nice, but the service and food is a bit meh. However list week I went to a very good tasting of Disaronno cocktails which was very good.
Decent food, really friendly wait staff, but they music was so loud that it was impossible to carry on a conversation. Would have been a solid four star place were it not for the music volume .
Over priced. Pretentious. Go to the West Room. You'll get better cocktails for less money and better service. The service at the Sygn is good, but it's just a busy bar trying to be as hipster as possible.
Very cool interior but ridiculously expensive. On the one occasion i visited I paid more for a glass of their home made ginger beer than people having pints or large cocktails. As someone who tends to be driving im not much of a fan of bars that charge far more for soft drinks than alcohol
Extremely slow and surly service and music so loud you can't hear yourself think, let alone hold a conversation. They totally messed up the orders for our table and the food, when it did eventually arrive was just godawful. Expensive, too. Avoid like the plague!
Terrible cocktail and service...... You order a drink with strawberry (Summer Lovin') and you get something that tastes like 3 weeks old synthetic orange juice/strawberries. Don't dare to ask the waiters about it cause according to them that's how it's supposed to taste and just deal with it! Not going back....
Food is ok burger served in a plastic tray, chicken wrap was was slighty burned, friendly staff! Would not recommend foe lunch if you have to talk when large group is seated near.
Awfully managed, dive of a place that will always try to over charge you. Didn't have half of the ingredients to make the cocktails on their menu, waited half an hour to be told they had no coffee to make an espresso martini and to choose a different drink on the house - which we didn't get for at least another 20 minutes. Get the bill at closing time and they tried to charge us for the espresso martinis which we didn't get, the cocktails which they promised were on them and a gin and tonic which we didn't order. So en extra £46 on the bill. Went back a couple of weeks later, by the end of the night they're giving out Schweppes tonic instead of Fevertree and charging the same price. Toilets are an absolute disgrace, no toilet roll, unclean and only one of the cubicles lock. The place used to be alright but it's an overpriced hole now. Avoid at all costs, much better places to go to nearby.
