There are so many fish options to choose from. Personally, I really love this cozy little restaurant with its warm atmosphere. They also have Sapporo draft beer, which is my favorite. The food is fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. I especially love the fish bone chips ,they go perfectly with the beer! 😋

I took my six-year-old for his very first time eating sushi, and both our first time here last Saturday evening for dinner. We made a reservation for 4:45pm. Our table was ready (we got there just a little bit early) and they seated us right away. The waitress gave my son some chopsticks with the trainer link 🔗 on them 😊 I ordered the lobster roll & the California roll. They were both delicious. We had a great time! I ordered strawberry and mango mochi for dessert. It was also delicious . Harry had a really great experience for his first time eating Sushi 🍱. He said he would like to come back again.

This is THE place for sushi and so much more. Amazing, fresh, delicious food with awesome service. The fish here you can't find anywhere else.

What a great find in Edmonds. We wanted to try a new Sushi restaurant and decided on SanKai. We loved it! Super service, fabulous sushi, and Banks, a very interesting, cordial and accomplished sushi chef, made our dining experience a memorable one!

I asked Gemini for the best Sushi in Snohomish County and it answered SanKai. Of the sushi places I have gone to, I would also concur. My one nitpick, and this is a nitpick, is that sitting at the sushi bar means your back is to the door. So when the door opens, you might feel the breeze. If it's winter, you might want to keep your jacket one throughout the meal. Not enough of a negative for me to deduct a point.

We ordered the 14-piece omakase nigiri set and left more than satisfied. Each piece showcased exceptional freshness and quality, making every bite memorable. The chef thoughtfully explained each selection, and the pacing was perfect, with each course arriving promptly. For the price, their omakase is highly recommended!

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! It took me back to Japan. I am very picky eating Japanese food. And this restaurant went above and beyond. Specially with UNI, here in Seattle it is very difficult to find a GOOD uni. At Sankai you will have one of the best Uni. All the sushi it was absolutely amazing and the service was STELLAR. I highly recommend you this restaurant.

The food was so good! We ordered Seattle restaurant week and got one of each thing. Loved the brussel sprouts and pork with daikon(comfort food!)but the oysters really stole the show for the apps. Chirashi and sushi were so good, you forget how good high quality restaurant sashimi tastes, it was a moment to be cherished. ordered shiokoji chicken for the kids, they really liked it and enjoyed the flavors of the mushrooms. Please do not expect this chicken dish to taste like teriyaki, this is so much more delicately flavored than that. Desserts were solid. Flan came in a pretty mason jar, nice custard flavor. Coffee jello was refreshing and not to9 sweet. I felt happy, satisfied wothout feeling heavy and overstuffed after eating. We will be back again soon!

Make a reservation or you'll be waiting awhile. Good service, excellent traditional Japanese cuisine with fabulous options. This is not a fake crab California roll and cream cheese establishment. Clean and fresh seafood. Superb flavors. The cucumber sticks are oddly delicious and mouth cleansing. Black marinated cod is on point.

A much coveted Chef Nakano's new sushi restaurant in Edmonds, we visited for a birthday dinner. It is situated close to Salt & Iron, tucked away on the side so it is not on the "main" roadway, but can't miss it. We were welcomed warmly, our host was fantastic. Our server for the night was really courteous and serviced us very well. The ambiance of the place was really well thought of too, we could tell that they paid attention to how loud the music is, where to put the lighting, how to space the tables out. We ordered 11-piece nigiri omakase, a roll of futomaki, vegetable tempura, seafood gyoza, two draft beers that they had (Sapporo and Mac & Jack amber), and finished the night off with a dessert, a lemon custard cheesecake. As we were frequent visitors to Kisaku, you can expect similar dining experience and similar tastes. The highlight was shiitake mushroom tempura (if you are a fan of tempura, highly recommend ordering their vegetable tempura). Nigiri omikase was really good overall as well, but on a personal note, some of the pieces had too much wasabi and overwhelmed the taste of the fish. I prefer consistent amount of wasabi in each pieces, on a lesser side. Some of the reviews say the prices are more expensive compared to others - we agree. Compared to Kisaku at least, we felt it was a little more expensive. Not by much, however. We only saw one 4-person table, rest were 2-person sittings (4-5 tables of these), and rest were sittings at the bar, 10-11 seats. So I would say this is definitely a good dinner date spot, or for a happy hour after-work sushi. Can't imagine bringing two families of 4 for a dinner here. We will come back, we had overall very good experience, and downtown Edmonds at night time is really wonderful walk around.

Pictures: monkfish liver, agedashi tofu, chirash, nigiri. A decent mid-high end sushi establishment. You will get a personal experience and anything you order will likely not disappoint. It wasn't quite exceptional compared to my favorite sushi restaurant(in this price range) in WA, Kiku's, but it's close. Everything they have served me was fresh and authentic.

Fantastic dinner experience at SanKai. We made a reservation through open table about 1hr 30min before we got there and was lucky enough to get a seat in one of their outdoor heated domes. The sashimi tasted fresh with absolutely no fishy smell to any of them. There were 4 different kinds of salmon sashimi on the menu when we went, and all 4 of them were delicious.

This place became one of our favorite sushi restaurant. We came here during restaurant week. We ordered one SRW menu omakase. The oyster is very refreshing, and the 10 pieces of sushi are just amazing. We end up ordered 2 more times with 10+ pieces each time. Their Japanese uni is one of the best uni I have ever had in the Seattle area. They also have a special list of fish that you can rarely find at other places. We end up spent way more than we planned but it was all worth it. Definitely will come back again.

Make reservation Omakase is my way to “roll” here. A chef who really pays attention to how I enjoy my meal at his present. 🙏🏼

Hands down favorite sushi chef in seattle. I had such a great time having omakase with the chef that I didn’t take any photos of the food. I took the only photo of the bottle where the chef recommended as the best sake pair with the sushi we are having. Can’t wait to go back next time !!!

Pretty good spot for sushi in Edmonds! If you don't want to drive to Seattle for good sushi, visit here! Must try Japanese soufflé cheesecake! Nomnomnom. Rolls are half size... sankai roll in the back and I think it was spider roll in the front. Sushi are individual orders.

Didn't have a good experience last time but decided to have another try and it was outstanding! Great selection of fishes and drinks.

Best sushi I've eaten, of course it's fresher here in the Pacific Northwest. Make sure you check out Fresh Sheet for the latest specials, too.

A very clean restaurant. The food is good, too. You'd better make a reservation before you coming, if not you won't get a good seat. Waiters may also forget your food. The food was very fresh and the chef was serving me right in front of me and it felt good. The best is the sea urchin sushi. I saw his sea urchins were flown in from Japan and they were very sweet. I'll be back.

I was very happy with our experience at Sankar. Nigiri selection was broad and we tried many new fish varieties I have not experienced. Such a delightful dinner. Not to be missed.

Enjoyed hot house sake at the Sushi Bar and ordered 3 rolls which were all top notch. The Seattle Roll was a nice twist. Great service and conversation with the chef. Will go back when in area.

Better fish quality than other sushi places which are double the price. Best value I have ever had. And I hate using the word value because it makes it sound mediocre…it was incredible. Mouth gasms every bite. This is my new place.

Just amazing. I don't know what else to say. I deleted other sushi places from my favorites.

I made sure to make a a reservation a day in advance. I ordered the black cod, incredibly delicious and delicate, next time I’ll skip the edamame and order two pieces of black cod. The 4 piece nigiri was fresh and yummy.

One of the freshest chirashi bowls I've had yet in WA :) great fish quality- uni in particular is melt-in-your-mouth decadent, and all three desserts were amazing (opera cake, souffle cheesecake and flan)!

Super cute... loved the Dome experience. Service and food was phenomenal. Will definitely return. Happy to find another great sushi spot around WA!

We were fortunate to sit at the sushi bar where my son could speak Japanese directly with the chef. That added a lot to our experience! This is a cozy neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed vibe. The food was expertly prepared and presented. The service was good, but since they were busy, we didn't get what I would deem 5-star attention, although I suspect that was not the norm. No real complaint, though. I definitely recommend it!

Marcello Novak

Insanely high quality, the fish was so fresh. I am not being paid to say this, this is some of the best sushi I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to Japan proper. It’s on the expensive side, but this is a grade A date night spot

K

Delicious and thoughtfully prepared sushi. I would absolutely recommend the omakase, but you'll need to make a reservation in advance. We were served by Nakano himself, who took the time to explain each piece and answer our questions.

Always fresh and tasty. One of the few places we can find chawanmushi. A bit small so we always make reservations. Parking can be tricky.

Went here for an early sit down New Year's Eve dinner. Have had takeout from here several times and ate at the sushi bar one time. We sat at one of the small tables for two on this occasion. Wait staff was super friendly and responsive. We did not feel rushed at all even though they were booked full for the evening. We had the house sake, some edamame, three rolls and several pieces of nigiri. The edamame was okay didn't taste as good as it has before, but that was the only item that was subpar. All of the sushi was delicious! And really that's what we were there for. My wife does not eat much so our bill was just over $100 + tip for 2 people and we still had a few pieces to take home for later. Overall a great start to our New Year's Eve celebration, which ended with snoring around 9:30. :) We will be back here again for sure!

High end sushi made by classically trained sushi chefs. The best quality fish, very fresh. They have unique species of fish you won't find anywhere else. This is the real deal, not cheap.

Beautiful vegan and gluten free omakase for $30. Delicious, but not enough food for a full meal. Service staff know their menu very well and were attentive and friendly. The seafood sushi rolls my family ate looked awesome and they said they tasted delicious. No fake crab in them, which is typical of lower quality sushi restaurants. We'll be back!

We drove 45 min from Bellevue to Edmonds to go to my cousin's favorite Japanese restaurant. If my stomach was not queezy from the overly creamy seafood chowder from Salty's (in Alki) I would definitely get the 14 piece omakase nigiri or sashimi. It was a good deal. I took a pic of his dinner. Bummer, I was had to eat lightly. They also had outdoor dining pods (private clear tent bubbles.) Good happy hour specials. Again, if my stomach was so queezy I'd be indulging in all the options.of fresh seafood. Located in the quaint and charming downtown of the City of Edmonds. I'll be back.

Great place to make your own omakase experience! Dress warm as it gets a little cold in there.

Overall, very pleasant dinner. We ran a few minutes behind our reservation time and they didn’t seem to mind. The service and quality of sushi were excellent. Server was on top of refilling water and checking on us. We ordered tempura and we found the veggies to be on the harder side - not cooked quite long enough. Although we came during happy hour and took advantage of some of the items from the happy hour menu, my friend and I both thought the bill was quite high. I have been to many other sushi restaurants, just as good for a cheaper price. Nevertheless, service and food was excellent!

Quiet location just off of Main Street with lots of street parking. We made a reservation online using OpenTable and were seated right away despite arriving a little early. Almost every seat in the restaurant and everyone appeared to be enjoying their meals. The semi-dim lighting, comfortable minimalistic seating (akin to a Starbucks or high-end cafe) and modern music made for a great atmosphere. The staff was very friendly, the prices were okay compared to other sushi restaurants we frequent, and the quality was about what we expected (above average). We appreciated that their spicy tuna was actually chopped tuna with kick to it as opposed to a paste-like consistency that we usually see. Their ginger also had a great bite to it. We will be back for some more delicious nigiri and next time look forward to trying the Omakase.

Glad to have a sushi place near me. Sushi was good and fresh (not mind blowing). The rolls didn’t have their own unique flavors- tasted pretty similar yo each other. Maybe it was just what we ordered. Deserts - the yuzu mousse cake was my favorite. I like tart so it was an easy choice. The Japanese soufflé cheesecake was like any good cheesecake. Opera cake (not a boring dessert - chocolate rich with coffee flavor). Flan is housemate and was meh. Enjoyed the Chuhai -lemon flavor was like a long cold summer drink. Shishito peppers were very good, but the highlight was the kaarage chicken. Looks a little bland but really loved the flavors. Unexpectedly delightful. Green beans tempura were crunchy but not exciting. Service was good except a little distracting when someone came by to clear the plates every so often or wanting to check if I’m done with my drink. Before we ordered we asked for separate checks, server agreed but at the end said they can only do 3 instead of separate checks. Not a huge deal but let us know right in the beginning to save us the headache of figuring it out later?

10/28/19 - third day of soft opening. The restaurant is still waiting for its liquor license (which should arrive on the first), so there's no liquor offered yet. Service is slow and hopefully will improve in the future. They have one main server, one bus boy, and the check-in person that helps out every now and then. Now, let's get on with what's good and not good: Good: good quality fish. The sashimi assortment (not the omakase set) gets recommendation from me. 10 pieces (2 pieces of 5 types) of sashimi for $23. The pieces are thick cuts of fish. This is a much better deal for the price compared to the 14-piece nigiri omakase set at twice the price. The kabocha pirrin dessert is innovative, refreshing, and most importantly, tasty! At $9 it's just right for the price. Not good: the agedashi tofu breading is bland in taste. It's as if the breading is lacking some salt. The sauce is light which is what I like but there's not enough of it for me to cover the the tofu pieces to make it less bland. At $7, it's a reasonably priced for this dish. What's not reasonably priced is the black cod. At $17, you get a small section of fish. The fish is tender with light savory taste, but personally, I still prefer a nice fatty piece of hamachi or salmon Kama elsewhere for less than half the price. The Great Pacific Northwest roll, at$16, was fresh tasting. I enjoyed the small sprinkling of crab on top, but, overall, it is not exceptional. Final word, I'd be back for the sashimi assortment and desserts, and to try out other dishes. But main take away is I'd probably go further north to Lynnwood if I wanted more bang for the buck.

We heard good things about SanKai. Recommend making reservations. We didn't, but lucky to get bar seats. Quite and comfortable. Ordered a few pieces of Nigiri. Service was fast. Nice presentation. Fish was fresh. Taste was a little bland. Tempura vegetables were spot on excellent. Overall, good experience.

It's not a bad sushi place, if you're in the mood and in the area go for it. I ate outside in a dome pretty cool concept but thats about. Food was good overall but nothing exciting.

Was able to get same day reservations on a Friday night. Ordered agedashi tofu, hotate gyoza, California roll, and a bunch of nigiri. I would recommend the tofu and nigiri. I enjoyed the variety of fresh fish, and would come back if I had a sushi craving! SanKai is more accessible and less expensive than the popular sushi spots in Seattle.

M
Mayski

I think the food here is okay. It’s probably at. B level with the freshness of the fish, the presentation and the overall taste of the food. Some of the fish tasted very fishy and some items just didn’t seem fresh.

M
Michael J

TLDR: a good-valued chill place for eating various kinds of unique sushi fish. However, the quality is not stable. ( it was good for this time I visited) —— Pro: 1. They have a huge list of nigiri fish to choose. Always, they have 10+ daily special fish which is more than what most places have 2. The nigiri price is cheap, considering an Otoro nigiri only costs you $6.00 and a Hokkaido uni nigiri only costs $6.5 3. The dine-in environment is cozy and spacial. And it’s relatively easy to park your car around —— Cons: 1. The menu gave to the customers was wrong and the servants didn’t even know it was wrong. This is super unprofessional; 2. Some cuts of fish is so sketchy, e.g the Toro nigiri’s cut is like being tear down rather than being cut by a knife… 3. I’ve been there for many times and sometimes they just made the taste really bad. But sometimes, it’s actually good… so, you may need luck while visiting

We eat a lot of sushi so tried this place based on reviews. Had the sashimi omakase, 2 rolls and Kasu marinated black cod. Sashimi quality was ok but expected better for the price. Kasu black cod was excellent and definitely the highlight. Service was fast and friendly. Recommend getting a reservation. We walked in and had to wait even though the restaurant was half empty.

T
The Benster

The food is priced nice. The service was ok. The staff were talking loud but it's ok since it's not a Michelin star restaurant. I would go again

L
Lily

Food was OK. The geoduck app was like a chicken stir fry. The edmonds roll reminded me of canned tuna - description said seared salmon , and we did not expect to get mashed salmon on the roll. The salmon katsu was also mashed salmon, dry, and should have been listed as a croquette instead of katsu. I recommend coming here only for fresh sushi. Their appetizers and rolls were disappointing. Dishes lacked creativity for price you're paying.

Great quality fish at want to be Seattle prices. How are you going to call something omakase on the menu and put it all on one platter? If I’m going to spend more than a couple of hundred dollars and still leave hungry at least have the option of real wasabi.

H
Hong Fang

If I can give this place a ZERO star, I would! My husband is Japanese, so we know sushi! We ordered fatty tuna sushi, it came black with a foul smell, didn’t look or taste like fatty tuna at all. The Japanese eel wasn’t from Japan but cheap Chinese frozen eel. The miso black cod was a tiny piece without any real miso taste to it. This restaurant is cutting the corner in every possible way and they got 4.4 reviews on google?! The previous owner was Japanese, we didn’t see him or his son or his wife in the restaurant. This is not a good sushi place. Avoid it at all costs! The service was bad and my glass was empty throughout the meal and nobody bother to refill it until the meal was almost over. I wish I haven’t driven 45 minutes to this place. A terrible experience!!

D
David Helsel

Got the 14 piece nigiri omakase platter. First thing I tried was the geoduck, it was incredibly, incredibly sour and left a sour, metallic aftertaste in my mouth. This aftertaste lasted throughout the entire meal, pretty much anything I ate that didnt have a strong flavor just tasted sour. Thought it was maybe normal at first and I just didn't like geoduck, but tried some geoduck off the plate of the person with me who also got the platter and it tasted completely different (not sour at all). Pretty positive I was served spoiled geoduck.
