Prompt service, polite staff, clean. The food was awesomeness! Green chile cheese fries with carne asada, so good, almost a meal and we got the small.
Didn't eat, though the smell was yummy. It's a fun, friendly joint you'll recommend after you've been.
Traditional, local food. Smiling faces, great music lineup! Love the hospitality and menu options! Way to go, Adrianna!
Great service! Staff is very polite and quick with orders. Definitely would come back again and recommend. Food tastes great
I didn't actually dine in, but I stopped in for a drink and liked the courtyard, live music, and friendly staff. I'm planning on returning soon to try their food
Just such a nice place to eat outside right in the plaza of Mesilla. The food is always delicious.
Great experience. Your lunch includes chip and salsa AND soup! The soup was fantastic! Everyone enjoyed there lunch!😊
Great entertainment and great service really brings the spirit of the old west with Billy the kid feel environment, check out Thunderbird gift shop across the street too something for everyone there:)
Great little restaurant right on the corner of the Mesilla Historic Plaza. Enjoy inside dining or their large outdoor covered patio.
Adriana is a darling . This restaurant has the best Mexican food you have ever tasted. And great wine
I loved the street tacos pulled pork best tacos I have had from a restaurant I definitely will be back not only good food but great service keep it up
Love this place a great place to order Mexican food . I ordered the enchiladas with both sauces and corn and rice on the side so good. The waitress was so nice . All the staff were polite and sweet. The decor was great. I 100% recommend for locals and tourist and great location.
First time in Las Cruces a few weeks ago to visit a great friend of mine, and a top priority was to experience the Mexican or New Mexican food scene here. I tried several spots which didn’t do much for me, but finally Don Felix saved the day on Saturday. Nice ambiance, live music always a plus, but the food….mmmm delish. From the chips and salsas, to the taquitos, and last but not least carne asada tacos. I could eat them everyday and be happy. Hands down best taco spot in Las Cruces.
This is a great place! The patio allows for pets, and the warm weather allows for a comfortable eating experience outside. Terrific food...we had a quesadilla and nachos; both were big enough to share...with leftovers!
This place is a hidden gem! If you haven't been...you're missing out! Trust me, if you're anywhere near Las Cruces, go give your taste buds what they deserve...a beautiful meal that will not disappoint! The attention to detail in their food shows you how much love they put into every ingredient!
The perfect place to enjoy coffee and a meal with friends. The coffee is locally grown and roasted, and the staff is passionate about making sure it is always brewed to absolute perfection. On weekends an older couple plays acoustic guitars in the corners and it creates the perfect coffee house ambiance. It sets the mood for a great conversation with friends, and when there is a lull you can sip wonderful coffee and listen to music that makes you remember days long past and old friends.
My wife and I had a delicious lunch here on Sunday. I had the nopales tamale, which was spectacular, and my wife had the carne asada tacos, which were spectacular. Service was friendly and efficient.
Really good food, the pulled pork tasted sooo good and the food tasted pretty authentic to me. I had champurrado during xmas time and posole, then recently we went again and it was still very good. I had green chili cheese fries and my husband had a quesadilla. Portions were a great size for the price and they werent skimpy on the meat or cheese or chile. I would go again and recommend it.
Visiting from Missouri and originally from Colorado so all in all pretty peticular about green chile. The owner who was serving us at the time gave great advice on food I haven't tried yet here in New Mexico. Got the Enchiladas with chicken, and indeed was very underrated. Also a veteran owned company who does take pride in their service and presentation. Don't believe me try it for yourself.
The blue corn chicken pecan flautas are da bomb. Rice bowl to small. Their carne asada tacos are great to. To he live music is also a plus. Their waitress are very nice.
Love the indoor and outdoor options. You can sit out right on the Mesilla plaza and even take your doggie with you! Delicious food and delicious drinks! Fun music for entertainment. Nothing else like it on the plaza! My new favorite hangout!
The food was good and a little different than other restaurants around Mesilla. It seems like they make classics slightly more modernized. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the patio seating.
First time here and we loved it! I don't know how or why we've never stopped in before, but we'll be back! I got the red chile enchiladas with carne asada, and the sauce was fire! Def recommend!
Food was good. Band was great. Service was excellent! They had been really busy and were out of a few beers on tap. Otherwise, great experience.
This is a very relaxing place with indoor and outdoor patio seating. The food was very good and fair priced. They even had free entertainment. I'd go there again.
I've been here for lunch twice now and enjoyed it both times. The pulled pork sliders and sweet potato fries were very good, as was the Desert Fog IPA. It's a great location too. The patio is right next to the plaza.
Excellent food! We were hesitant to come due to the rating here, but we were so glad we did. The blue corn taquitos with chicken and pecans were delicious! So were the vegetarian tamales. Service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was clean with a really nice outdoor area too.
The food is superb. Excellent location. My 4 tacos cost 20 bucks. You pay for the view too. If everyone could afford it, there would never be any room in that joint. I love the outdoor seating with covering. We had our doggy with us. They had a special Mother’s Day band playing, it was a treat for mothers. I’ve been here 3 times so far- and looking forward to many more times.
I’ve been in several times, the service is always top tier, the foods is so good (I’m a big fan of their green chile pozole, but also love the duck enchiladas) the restaurant it’s self is wonderful and cozy. I would 100% recommend eating here!
This is currently my favorite patio for dining in Old Mesilla. The pulled pork slider was delicious and the sweet potatoes were on point.
Small restaurant with a patio that's good for sitting and enjoying an alcoholic beverage, which is what I did. They have a few selections of craft beers, domestics and cocktails. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Their energy level seemed a bit low, I'm sure they had seen their fair share of customers for the day. There was entertainment in the patio, it was a duo singing traditional Mexican songs. I glanced at the menu but there wasn't anything that particularly caught my eye. The place is clean, I'd definitely visit again!
We have been here twice and both occasions enjoyed our meals and service. Nice patio to sit outside and eat. It is covered so the shade is nice. Simple menu but everything so far has been great. They have a good little selection of local craft beer and wines.
We got drawn in by the live music to have a beer. Once seated we found many interesting things on the menu. I have the pulled pork sliders with Sweet Potato fries. They were super tasty and I recommend trying them if you find yourself in the area.
Everything I've had at Don Félix has been wonderful. The smothered burritos, tacos, tres leches cake.. all very good. They carry a decent selection of beer and other drinks, the patio space is very welcoming, and they frequently have live music.
If you're looking for a Mexican restaurant that serves up some seriously delicious tacos, look no further than Don Felix Cafe. I ordered the carne asada tacos, which were some of the best I've ever had. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. But what really blew me away were the vegan tacos. As someone who isn't usually a fan of vegan food, I wasn't expecting much, but these tacos exceeded all my expectations. The filling was hearty and well-seasoned, and the toppings were just as fresh and flavorful as those on the carne asada tacos. One thing that really sets this restaurant apart is the presentation of the tacos, as most places this is a negative, but as I quickly discovered, the flavors were even better than the presentation. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients really shines through in every bite. Overall, I was extremely impressed with this Don Felix Cafe and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area looking for delicious tacos. Whether you're a meat-eater or a vegan, you're sure to find something to love on the menu.
We stopped in for lunch and ate outside. Live music. Pulled pork tacos are excellent, some of the best tacos ever. Great wine, beer and excellent service (owners husband). Will definitely return
Great place!! The food is very good, it is very clean, the service is superb too. They also have excellent live music playing. By the way. You can bring your well behaved doggie friend as well. Totally recommend it. I need to emphasize that if you appreciate distinctive caring service. This is the place. Great atmosphere. Thank you guys.
Excellent service with excellent food. There's a beautiful outdoor seating section with live music (not sure how often the live music is but it was beautiful; I added a picture of the musicians card). We had Street Taco's, Mini hamburgers, and Tamales; everything was excellent with zero issues.
Friendly service, smiling faces and great eats. I had the green sauce chicken enchiladas and they were perfect. Plenty of grilled chicken and the off-menu request of the egg on top of the three enchiladas. Even the plate presentation was modern and sleek. Very good portion size too. Not too big which I appreciate. Great job Don Felix team, we will be back!
we had a great time here for lunch. We stopped in and sat outside, super comfortable and dog friendly! We had the Shrimp Ceviche for starters which was amazing. The tostadas are especially made and were super tasty. Then we both had the Mahi street tacos, again great choice. super great taste, good size and very filling. We will be back again when in town....
We went on Friday afternoon for a very late lunch. We were the only patrons in the restaurant and two tables outside had guests. The ceviche tostadas were light and crispy. A delicious meal. My sister and mother ordered a patty melt with sweet potatoe fries. We all walked full and very pleased with our choices. The decor in the restaurant is nice and what you would hope to see when you visit a place surrounded by historic buildings.
We really enjoyed this restaurant for lunch today. We wanted to see the jazz and blues festival that was happening on the plaza and did a little search for reviews and once again my friends delivered. The pork Street tacos were absolutely fantastic and hubby had the flautas which was such a unique flavor and chock-full of chicken. We also really liked the street corn. The margaritas are made with some type of guava syrup and they were fantastic, don't skip out on these. What a great spot to enjoy the live jazz and blues music that was happening. Service was fantastic and we would definitely return to this location if we were locals. Total bill for each entrée +2 beers and two margaritas was $54 before tip.
The food was very good and tasty. The service was awesome, but it was a bit pricey for very small portions that you received. I'll probably be back again, but only on a splurge.
The food was very good I love the outdoor patio where you can have your dog with you I would have liked to have had my tea refilled without having to ask for it several times which is why I'm not giving it 5 Stars if you sit on the patio they do tend to forget you're there.
Nice relaxing place to enjoy Mexican American food (patio is great). Very fresh, simple, and tasty dishes. Large portions, however it is slightly overpriced.
The food was great (but they were out of several things on the menu). The cerviche was excellent! Good beer selection and live music on the patio. Had a great experience.
I just got done eating. I ordered through GrubHub. The food came quickly enough. 3 shrimp tacos rice, beans, and a side of guacamole. $15. Really good food. Portions we're a bit light. I'm still hungry.
The food from here is good but the agua frescas are definitely the best! Service is sometimes hit or miss. Sometimes you will get amazing service or sometimes you wont even be glanced at again after you've sat down. I just started ordering to go to not deal with that. Try the horchata and pomegranate and orange aguas!
Excellent service from order placement including recommendations that were spot on. Food was flavorful and the plate presentation was very appealing. Will return and support this restaurant. Good Job!
I had the street tacos, carne asada for protein. The flavor was excellent. The beans and rice however, were rather bland and tasteless. Soup comes with the meal was great. The chips and salsa also on point. My only real complaint was the cast iron plate had the food so hot I had to wait a while to pick up the food.
I like the place but can't figure out the hours. We went Saturday at 12:15pm and the place was closed. But the hours on the door showed that it should be Open.
Tried this place again over the weekend and their new and improved menu is actually better than it was before. The albondigas were good, the tamales were great, and the choco flan is one of the better ones in the area. If you haven't been here in a while, stop by and give 'em another shot. Especially recommended on Sundays when the plaza has live music.
The service was slow on Saturday around noon. I don't blame the waitress, it appeared she was the only person working tables inside and on the patio. The food was good.
Because of covid-19, no inside seating. It's cold outside, not real comfortable, and the live music is too loud for the small patio outside.
The winerita is too sugary and gave me a headache, the patio music is nice but it's too loud as other reviews have noted, and the green chili patty melt thing that I should have never have gotten was extremely bland. If you go here I'd recommend to sticking to beer and pureMexican cuisine.
Came here on a Sunday afternoon. A live Duo was performing. Ordered the Jalapeno Popper Bites. They were a different experience. Do recommend. A bit spicy tho. I ordered the Flautas. They were good, the sides not so much. It came with a corn with chili powder on it. That was good. Also came with some rice, which was not so good. I would recommend the restaurant do away with that and instead serve black beans with mangos. They should also add a bit of Guacamole along with the cream they gave. What I really did not like about this place were the plates the food came on. Looks nice for presentation but not to eat off of. Maybe keep it simple. Or maybe I'm too picky. Either way, I will come back to try something different.
I ordered the chicken taco plate with soft shell and whole beans. I received hard store bought taco shells and refried beans. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever in the chicken or rice. The only saving grace was the salsa. Nice live music though. I miss the original owner. :(
They made their menu smaller now & now it costs more of basically anything you order on the menu! Don't think I'll come back here anytime soon! Very disappointed with this restaurant. Just felt like I was ripped off after being served really small portions of food & recieving an expensive $bill! You're better off going to eat somewhere else besides this place.
Just ordered two taco plates. Was charged 12.50 for each one when the menu says 10.50. No beans or rice and was told I was not allowed to order and extra taco. Not sure whats going on here but this is not what I remember don felix being just a few months ago. This was one of my favorite restaurants but now I will be taking my business elsewhere.
Way better spots to go to other than this one. I ordered the green enchiladas. They were good but the beans were dry and old. The fries were really cold.
We went there because the atmosphere was lively, especially with the live music. The food turned out to be just ok and the service was awful. The waiter took forever to get our food out and we had to track him down for our check too. We won't be going back there again.
Cafe Don Felix of De Mesilla is actually called Emelia's and it returning to the original name Cafe Don Felix under new ownership. Just off the Mesilla town center we decided to try this local cafe and enjoying dining outside in the courtyard on a lovely warm afternoon in February. We were a bit disappointed in the food because it was not a flavorful or spicey as we normally like. I ordered the Cuban plate and did enjoy the plantaines and the sauce that came with it.
I can't give this a place a star, as it's seems they are not welcoming For Blacks people. Will take our drink order, but " OUR FOOD", WILL TAKE OVER AN HOUR! Asked the waitress if she they were going to bus tables on the patio, Of course, she replied, I dont know, I just got here. Very Unwelcoming..
👎🏼⭐ 4 very super SIMPLE CARNE AZADA TACOS FOR $23.00 Everything on the menu has price exe2the azasa tacos They don't give you nothing with the tacos just the cold tortilla and the meat and forget on asking for a very simple order of salsa $3.00 for it I was super disappointed of don felix this time They ALWAYS have a bad service and we can live with that...... But this ridiculous prices 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼⭐
It was the worst tasting food ever. People getting drunk allowing children to go wild. Food was very bland! We will NOT return.
Racist Vibes! Rude and unwelcoming to the only black people there. We walked in to be seated and the waitress said you can sit wherever you want..we sat at a table and asked if a patio table would be bussed and her response was, "I dont know i just got here." So we stayed inside. When she came back she said.."I can take your drink orders but just to let you know the food will be over and hour wait. No apologies or explanations just very matter of fact..We got up to leave and same waitress happily taking another order..we asked if they were given a wait time for food and he said no he just ordered ..
Obviously, like it's predecessors, Don Felix is destined to fail. Came with the family and service was lackluster. They brought out 3 different menus for a party of 8, and none of the menus were up to date. The food was cold and underseasoned, and took upwards of 50 minutes to serve. Our youngest, 2 years old, was served 10 minutes later than everyone else. On top of that, they really do not read their menus. Some of the party ordered vegetarian tacos, and out of the three ingredients listed in the menu, only one actually made it in. Service was slow, which would be understandable during rush hour if there were actually people here. Limited menu, will not be returning.
One of the worst dining experiences I have EVER had. Went in for lunch, the new owners were sitting in a corner table drinking with feet propped up in chairs. Three couples in total dining at the time. Owners were sitting with a younger man and woman talking loudly and all were gossiping about other people and business owners! Talk about UN PROFESSIONAL ! WILL NEVER RETURN !
First time there and never going back. We waited 50 minutes for a burger that never arrived. We had heard from another customer complaining that the kitchen was short staffed and that they didn’t have a lot of the menu items available, that is why there was a lot of hold up on the food. But after an hour nobody ever bothered to explain the situation until we decided to cash out without received the rest of our food. Couldnt even get water cups without having to flag down 1 of the waitresses that were not necessary doing anything at the moment after making eye contact with them! Not pleasant at all. Never going back.
Everything online says they are open today. They're closed! We drove 80 miles to eat here today!
I really use to love this place great food and drinks! As of the past year the service is horrible! What is going on the owners only have one person working at a time. We go hoping for something different but no workers no service!! Maybe the owners can take responsibility and help out or hire!
The wait was long to get a table and to get the food. Many items on the menu they ran out. And when we finally got our food, my vegan Tacos weren't ready. I had to wait another 10 minutes for the vegan Tacos. The waitress did her best to get our food to our table. I cancelled my vegan Tacos,I went to get enchiladas at a food truck outside. were delicious and it only cost $10.00. Don't Felix not worth the wait, according to my group food wasn't that great. If you are making the trip to Old Mesilla NM try another restaurant or a food truck. The agitation not worth it, especially if the food is not that great either.
Waited 10 minutes before a waitress even acknowledged us party of 2. The restaurant was not busy. Four tables with 2 people each were being attended. Waitress finally came over and said we'd have to wait another 5 to 10 minutes before she could even take a drink order. I asked for water. She said she couldn't. A couple came in and sat down after us. I asked to speak to a manager. She said no. She went over, spoke to them, and took their drink order. I spoke to the manager. The manager was not interested in the issue. We left and will never return.
The food was meh, customer service was average. Food selection is limited….there are better places out there to eat.
Went to go eat lunch with my wife and grandmother. (On 5-2-2021 lunch time) Our food took more than 50 minutes to be served I just had our food packed up so I can Take it home. The was food basic. We didn’t order anything complicated very simple food. 1. Asada tacos, There was more nerve than actual meat. Not worth it and over priced. 2.Vegan tacos, super basic .You would think for the price it would come with guacamole or beans or something and make it more filling. 3Vegan enchiladas. The only good thing about them that they were spicy but unfulfilling. You would think they would Stuff it with some beans or veggies but no just tortilla and red sauce pretty much. Unsatisfying. I guess the problem was that they were backed up but in some thing with their software. But they didn’t offer any type of compensation for the wait just a bunch of Apologies. A discount or some chips and salsa would’ve been great for the wait. First and last time that me and my family will eat at Don Felix cafe. The food looks great but deceiving. The waitress was kind and attentive. I feel bad that she works there ,still gave her tip she was definitely working hard.
Food was good however it was overpriced for the portions they serve you. Waitress provided good service. I'd go to the Double Eagle across the plaza. Comparing the price alone it was similar in the amount you would expect to pay at the Double Eagle but at least the portion size would be bigger at the Double Eagle. Don Felix is more of a tourist trap in the aspect of the high prices for the food.
You know it's a bad sign when you walk into a restaurant at lunch time on Saturday and it's empty. The service was nice enough but the food was not. If you want to charge $16 for 4 tiny tacos, at least warm up the tortillas. The tacos fell apart as soon as you tried to fold them to eat. If you want to eat in Mesilla, go to La Posta.
Food was actually not bad. It would have been better if they had brought it out at the same time, instead of one plate every 5 minutes. By the time they had brought our my wife's plate, I was done eating. Service was mediocre at best.
The chef service is really bad, I mean really awful, I am cheese allergic and I asked for no cheese enchiladas and the “chef” said NO just because it doesn’t look beautiful 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I could have died from an allergy reaction, but the plate had to be “beautiful”. 😂 On the other hand, the waiter was so sweet and kind. ( we didn’t leave without paying, we paid what we got (drinks) there are cameras 🎥 we all paid in the front desk.
