Will be coming back very very soon. 💓👌
The food was very good for the price. Great portions, and wonderfully sweet staff. Quiet venue with nice spacing. I really don't have any negative things to say about my experience.
He poured sake straight into my mouth right from a ketchup bottle. Same with my gf except some got on my shirt. I would never expect this and I'm not sure how other people would react to it. I was OK with it, thought it was funny and figured I got some free sake. As far as everything else, food was delicious and reasonably priced I thought. The guy was friendly and joked around a lot while he cooked. This was my first time trying hibachi ever, so I didn't really know what to expect, but I was not disappointed.
The best food in service you will find for miles.
After calling several places, Shogun was the only place that was able to accommodate my party of 14. Very friendly, engaging, and attentive staff. The food show was great and delicious. Unfortunately, they don't have kids' menus, but they were able to eat from my serving. Portions are perfect. Parking is not the best, so plan on going early to look for parking. I will definitely go back.
Is a nice experience, the food is delicious and the people who serve are cool
Great hibachi place!! The food portions were huge and so so delicious. My favorite was the filet mignon. Our chef was also really entertaining and just added on to how great the experience was. Would definitely come back here in the future!!
The chef was funny and entertaining. The meal itself was well cooked and favorable, but my portion size was a little smaller than expected in comparison to other guest at the table. I ordered the Hibachi Lobster and shrimp.
My family & I love this place, my husband and I visit this place frequently for date nights. The food is great, the staff is friendly and it’s affordable. Definitely a gem of a hibachi location for queens. You can get sushi or have a hibachi dinner. Complete with the proteins your choice rice, noodles, vegetables, shrimp appetizer, salads and soup. Come in and try it, and if your coming a large party call ahead. It just makes it easy for your seating arrangements.
Just had a delicious lunch at Shogun Hibachi. The food was delicious and the hibachi performance was super fun! Best of all, the owner is full of integrity and super honest. We paid in cash and due to a slight miscalculation on my part, I left too much cash for the bill. Instead of just keeping the money, the owner came back to the table and let me know. I was super grateful for his honesty and made sure to leave a little extra tip for the staff. Overall, great food, great service and exceptional integrity.
I always have a great experience at Shogun been going for years. February I celebrated my husband’s birthday but some of my family members were extremely late the owner and staff were so kind and didn’t make us feel bad about it. The Owner was so kind and accommodated us with a smile. The food is tasty and the service is spectacular. This is the only hibachi restaurant I recommend.
Queens’ best kept secret! This is the absolute perfect spot to come with family (or date night). The staff is so nice to children, and there is enough space in front for kids to walk around without getting in the way of the kitchen. The food is yummy, the prices are excellent — highly recommend this for all ages.
Service - amazing! Food - amazing! Date Night - amazing! It was our first time visiting a hibachi restaurant and i wasnt disappointed at all. They food was extremely well prepared, the chef was energetic, the staff were attentive. The table sat 8 people but everyone participated in the experience. Definitely recommend 😀
i’ve been here twice and had lots of fun both times. they put on a good show and have a refreshing sense of humor. the beef, lamb, shrimp, and fried rice they made us were perfectly tasty. the teppanyaki chefs are amazing and deserve generous tips!!
Shogun is great for kids! The food is great and the staff is always lovely and welcoming and super accommodating. I appreciate this place in the neighborhood so much! I always get the filet mignon hibachi and I get my daughter a side of noodles and/ or fried rice and she shares my meal. The portions are large, the table side chefs are friendly. The kids LOVE feeding the fish!
We took my 9 month old grandson and he could get a little loud without disturbing the vibe. Good food. I like that you get white rice and noodles for the hibachi dinner. You can pay extra for fried rice. Good drinks, too.
Celebrated my 50th Birthday with family and friends. Food was delicious and the service was fantastic! You’ll definitely be seeing us again!
I loved it this food experience was more than good it is perfect if you ever want to go to a place that you can experience the chef cooking in front of you he dose tricks like if you ask him for a fork he we start joking around with you or the egg trick or when he puts sauce in your mouth or lite this giant fire or throw cheese in your mouth this place definitely deserves a 5 star review.P.S do not play magic tricks on the guy who is cooking unless he laughs.
I came here at around 5PM on a Wednesday and It was not busy, I was greeted by a very nice man and asked if i was here for hibachi or regular menu. The hibachi was great and the chef was awesome. The waiter and chef were wearing traditional clothes. Overall was a great experience with great tasting food.
Wonderful place to go great food, drink and service was awesome
Bang for your buck and the food and show were amazing. Server was helpful with all and even recommend sake. I went with my family of 4, we had 2 apps, 2 sake and beers, hibachi shrimp and steak with fried rice which includes noodle and veggies and dessert. Highly recommend and will definitely go again.
Delicious hibachi!! I got chicken and shrimp was and the meal comes with noodles rice and vegetables. Sushi is fresh and the rainbow roll was nice and big too. Our chef was very nice and put on a lovely show for us with a big smile. Bathrooms were not the best but maybe it was an off night.
My family & I ate here on Christmas Eve for the first time, it was great. Service, cleanliness, atmosphere & price all above average.
The food was really good and the price was unbeatable compared to neighboring hibachi restaurants. They were very patient in accommodating my large group of 22 people in light of several guests arriving late. I will definitely be coming back!
Came to this spot for a birthday dinner. Overall a good experience! Our chef was delightful and played the part perfectly. Food was great and he made my steak to a perfect medium cook. The wait staff were decent. I also ordered the fried ice cream but I was not a fan.
I've eaten out quite a bit and this has to be some of the best food I've had, the service was great, the chef was entertaining, even my picky eater 14 year old liked the food. I highly recommend this place. On a side note, this was once famous gangster Henry Hill's ( of Goodfellas fame) Suite Lounge back in the late '60s thru early '70s where Billy Batts was murdered.
Very clean and the staff is amazing! The chefs are always fun to talk and joke around with! This is definitely a good go to spot after any hang out for us now. The value/price and the amount of food is the best as well.
I absolutely love coming here. The food, service, and drinks are all fantastic, and the hibachi entertainment is always a blast. The management is incredibly kind and welcoming—they always remember us, which makes every visit feel special. Our go-to order is the filet mignon and chicken, which is consistently cooked to perfection. I've brought family here for their first hibachi experience, and they've all loved it. The cocktails are well-made and reasonably priced (plus they’re not stingy with the alcohol - which is a plus!) Overall, it's a great value for the money and a great time thanks to the hard-working and kind staff. Plus, the restaurant is always impeccably clean. Shoutout to Mr. Lee!
This is the first time me and my husband went to this place. We celebrated my best friend’s Birthday, Their food is excellent. The chef is so funny and very entertaining. He has a lot of tricks to show. The food is fresh and the service is very good. We enjoy it very much and come back for more. I recommend this place to celebrate.
My first experience ever and it was amazing! Our chef was very nice and funny and made the effort to talk to my parents in their native language(Spanish) which was very appreciated . The menu was large and also offered sushi. Did not get the sushi but the hibachi experience was amazing and would definitely come again. Had a lot of fun.
Awesome place! My friend & I tried the chicken hibachi, crispy rice balls, shrimp tempura roll, & lobster tempura roll. Everything was fresh & tasted great. Our favorites were the crispy rice tuna. We get these every time we eat sushi & these are BY FAR the best both of us have ever had. Super unique & delicious. Staff was friendly, ambiance was nice & clean, and prices weren’t bad at for portions. We will be back!
They accommodated my huge group a full hour early and the place was crowded the service was good but the magic was in the flavor of the food the flavor was great! At the end of the day a restaurant is about the food and the food did not disappoint at all!
We've been coming here for years and years. Food is good quality, staff is friendly and efficient, drinks are ok. If you order off the menu, even a gin and tonic, it might not be what you hoped for. The atmosphere could use a refresh, but it's OK.
This review will be short and to the point. There are pros and cons. Pros: the food si always good. The portions are good. The price i guess is a little high but i guess it's about what you'd expect. The staff is friendly. Cons: if you are going for the show, it's nothing special. In fact the show aspect is probably in the bottom 10 i've ever had. You will get your volcano but that's pretty much it, and the chefs don't seem to have any excitement. This has been true the past 3 times I came here. If this was improved I would go here more often. But the food is great
The family and I frequent this place often for hibachi. Most of the time the food is prepared well, however the chefs, (like most hibachi I've been to) can be hit or miss. Some cook better than others. The service is always very good. Servers are attentive, and the owner is friendly. I recommend it if you enjoy hibachi.
This is a great option for Hibachi if we want to stay local. The food is pretty good, a tad salty but nothing unbearable. The hibachi chefs have great personalities and are respectful while being casually and jovial. The wait staff is attentive and accommodating. We came here on a Saturday for lunch, no wait. Friday night for dinner, we are so glad to have called in for reservation. It was very busy. Even with a reservation, we had to wait 10 minutes. Another family was just leaving as we came in and I overheard them say that it was a 40 minute wait.
Really great place for birthdays. Our chef was hilarious and really entertaining. Their drinks are very strong. Overall the staff was very kind and seating was very quick. The hibachi food tasted pretty average. But it's a really nice experience
Once you've seen one you've seen them all. You Feel forced to appreciate the cooks tricks because you've seen them all before.
The staff is friendly as you're greeted at the door. This was my first hibachi grill and had only seen what is done in other places while the food is served on the plate. The cook did his theatrics with the cooking utensils, but the serving on the plate was somewhat a mess in my opinion. Others found it common. Let me know if you agree.
I’ve been here once and I have to say I had a great experience. I do recommend this place. Please check it out guys.
Service was really bad! My waitress barley came to check in on us and hardly gave us fresh water. I had one drink the whole time! Not to mention she kept forgetting to bring out our food when It was ready. The chef was delightful very friendly and sweet. The only good part. Food was okay. Shrimp with Chicken was good.
Just was not a fan of the food steak was too tough food to salty
I’m going to be very detailed in this review regarding my first visit to Shogun Hibachi. Now I know the first question anyone would ask is if I would return to Shogun Hibachi and the answer is most likely no. Now I will explain why….. my daughter loves hibachi and it was her 6th Birthday, when I walked in I was surprised as the manager opened the door for us which was a great start however when my family of 14 and I start down to eat the worst service you ever experienced began… tell me who ever went to a Hibachi and never received soup or salad? We never got any soup or salad…, appetizers took forever to come out and the waiter always have an excuse… we waited almost 30 mins to wait for appetizers. We have kids we explained that the kids are hungry and have been waiting for appetizers it was still a wait. What got me really upset is that people that wasn’t of color came after us sat down got soup and salad and got a chef to cook their food however we had to wait. The waiter took forever to get our orders and everytime we remind him about our appetizers he keeps forgetting. It’s upsetting to know how the service was and when we finally got a chef to cook our food he was literally finished in less than 20 mins. I told the chef medium steak and I got well done steak. The food is just ok to me, not impressive at all, I ordered the sandwich roll was the best dish for the night. The fire experience was too much and to me to dangerous to be honest, too much flames the kids were more scared than excited. I felt like we were just the after thought and all he had to say is sorry. It didn’t even sound genuine. Yes I completely understand that a restaurant gets busy however everyone should be treated the same and customer service is a huge deal for me. We spent a lot of money here and to leave not feeling satisfied was so disappointing. I feel it for my daughter because her experience wasn’t a nice one at all. Now given the Manager stated that he would give 10% off the bill but who cares about that, we didn’t get the great hibachi experience everyone expects. It’s sad to know that people still gets treated that way. I bought a cake and gave it to them and still had to remind them to bring out the cake. We didn’t get water we had to ask for water, we had to ask for utensils, we had to ask for napkins, we had to repeatedly ask for our appetizers, had to wait for others who came after us to be served and wait for a chef. On and all this wasn’t the experience I expected. I always appreciate when others leave a review about a restaurant and I hope this helps others. When it was time to sing happy birthday, they didn’t put any effort into doing it at all. Then they didn’t offer any knife to cut the cake nor any plates, we had to ask again. My advice is to just be careful when go here probably if you go when it’s not busy it’s better. Customer service and service on the hold needs to be better. I just to tell the Manager and Owner customers will rather pay more for top notch service than to pay less to be treated the way I was treated. Customers appreciate the effort a restaurant take to ensure that their customers leave with a happy face and the customers are always satisfied. Do better, customers come first and the customers are the ones keeping the business going without us customers you wouldn’t have a business. Show your customers that their service and support is appreciated. I hope you see this and understand why I gave the review. Lucky they got three stars and not one. Sorry but not sorry
Good food. Good service its a little pricey (150.00 for a family of 4) i guess i watch too much tv because i wasnt amazed by the theatrics...But my kids loved it they ate up every second of it, eyes lit up from the excitement of it all.... its an experience im glad i could provide my family.
Update: changed to 3 stars from our recent visit/experience. Me and my husband come here pretty often, and we usually have a great time and the food is delicious. However, this past experience was not as enjoyable. The food was OK. Our chef didn't season the food very well, didn't season the noodles at all, and overcooked the scallops. We had to ask for water and they never came to refill it. We had to ask for our check and for boxes to go. Our server was not very attentive to our table. Also, the place could use a little revamping as it's pretty out dated. Didn't help that the AC was leaking at one of the tables. The water is dripping onto their carpeted floors, causing a bit of an odor. It's a shame as we had brought family here to enjoy the resturant. We still love this spot, hoping this one visit was just a hiccup.
I love the place, the staff and the Hibachi Chef were amazing. My issue comes from the flavor of the food and the amount of oil in the food. I am not a fan of oily foods. I would recommend the fried ice cream.
This place used to be the best, but the quality has steadily gone downhill and this will be my last time having sushi here. The fish did not taste fresh, and the rice was super mushy but somehow the rolls were falling apart at the same time. The cucumber in the Alaska roll tasted old and had lost its crunch. All the spicy rolls looked like they had the life squeezed out of them. Honestly, I felt like they made the rolls a while ago and then served them to us. Hope I don’t get sick. Only upsides were the atmosphere, and the waitress was friendly.
My family and I were looking for a Hibachi place to celebrate my daughter’s birthday and one of my daughter’s researched and suggested this place. Although I was hesistant because not a fan of shared eating spaces when dining out, thought would give it a try. I was also hesitant because my dining and shopping experience in Queens has not been so great so far, unfortunately. One would think Forest Hills would be much different and more on par with Manhattan and other suburbs, but apparently the “culture” here seems to still be “lagging” too. When we came in, we were directed to wait and sit at booths while the staff (I guess) evaluated the seating in the Hibachi area which is understood as it’s a place of business and Saturday. I had reservations because of the first encounter, but went ahead with the evening because the dinner was for my daughters birthday. Besides the decrepit, old buffet style carpet, the presentation and wait staff were okay. However, towards the end, staff forgot to come and check so that we could complete the check and receive to go boxes. The other party that was sitting with us actually left and after WAITING for a good while, ended up flagging down one of the kitchen staff guys to help us with taking the payment so could pay and receive to go boxes. We believed that was the procedure to pay as the party next to us received their check and to go boxes and paid the same way. A few minutes later another young lady brought the check, but was abrupt and harsh when handing the receipt. I am not even sure what transpired to warrant that behavior as that was our first encounter with that particular individual. I was a bit startled, but my daughters confirmed that was NOT the person that helped us during dinner. We completed the receipt with tip, left it on the table (like most restaurants) and went to walk towards restroom when I was greeted by the guy that sat us at the beginning (I am assuming he is a manager/owner) DEMANDING the receipt. I informed him it was on the table and continued to restroom. Never in my life have I been so insulted in being ACCUSED of such NONSENSE or TOMFOOLERY as the restaurant had already CLEARLY CHARGED my credit card. If my family and I were going to walk out, we would not have sat there and waited an ADDITIONAL 15-20 minutes to give someone A CREDIT CARD so the RESTAURANT could PROCESS the transaction, go to the restroom, then walkout. Absolutely INSULTING and ASININE and one of the reasons reluctant to do business in certain areas, particularly in Queens. It’s just an off place. This experience has definitely solidified my decision to stay away from certain places outside of Manhattan or other suburbs. Think most “normal, suburban” families just want a nice, peaceful, evening out without unnecessary drama or nonsense. That’s all.
Food was okay. One of my rolls tasted slightly fishy, which is not a positive on the fish side. The miso soup was good, the garden salad was okay as well. I did enjoy the house sake. Service was also really good. I just wish the sushi was of better quality. The environment was nice and quiet with decent music in the background. Update: Ended up getting food poisoning and had to leave work early due to the side effects associated with food poisoning. Won’t be returning here.
Food was good! Just make sure you asks if they are hosting any kids birthday party 🥳 “I’m not knocking any kids bday parties” only because it can be very loud & distracting unless the noise doesn’t bother you & you want to be a spectator. You can get a terrible headache & cannot enjoy your food also it’s impossible to have conversations with your group that your dining with as y”all would be yelling at each other) Shogun Hibachi wasn’t a great 1st time experience. A lesson learned to ask before making reservations.
I don’t know why this place had such good reviews. We came here for my grandmas bday for a show. The cook cooked everything so quickly and did not engage with us at all. Everything came out bland and unseasoned. He basically threw the noodles on the pan with butter and served us less than a minute later. Scallops were over cooked and beef was tasteless. Nothing tasted good and it was very disappointing
2nd time being here. First time was so good but On Father's Day they forgot the sauce, no water given to each of us, appetizer served but allow us to enjoy it first and then cook the food. Staff never checked up on us to see if we needed anything else.
I don’t usually write the review but I had the worst experience here. I would definitely give zero review if i could. We went to dinner with my friends on New Year Eve who are from Pennsylvania and really excited to go to this place. The worst food till date. Don’t get fooled by the reviews. We ordered four entrees, cocktail drinks and one sushi roll. None of them are good. The fried rice was so salty you barely can eat. The hibachi chicken, shrimp and special hibachi chicken all are chewy and under cooked. We barely eat the food. We told server about it and he told us he would go and talk with the manager about it. The manager did not bother to come to our table and seems to avoid us. I would recommend you to avoid this place if you can. There is not single thing I would enjoy at that place. This place ruined my New Year eve dinner..
This place used to be awesome. My son loved going for the fire. Now it’s got new staff or something and just went down hill. We ordered drinks and had to repeat multiple times just to never be brought drinks. Then asked for them twice and in the end they brought my kid a glass of ice without an actual drink. Which was weird. It’s wasn’t an out of the ordinary order so that sucks. Sushi was super dry and I found something in my food that definitely wasn’t supposed to be there. Over all just not the same. The fish pond at the beginning is the highlight now.
This all happened in the hour that we were there. 1. Took a half hour to start service. 2.The server was playing with the Hibachi spatula dropped it on the floor twice and put it back on the cart without washing it. When we pointed it out he argued that he did wash it, slammed the spatula down and left. 3. Fish in the Queens roll was rotten/ spoiled 4. Soup tasted spoiled and watery. 5. Server said she would tell the manager about the bad service and didn't follow up. When asked she said he wasn't there. No manager on site. 6. Server asked how the service was and we explained to her that food was bad. Still charged for bad food. 7. Vegetables were rotten. 8. Chef did the best he could with the bad food they gave him to cook. 9. Atmosphere gets 2 stars. Koi fish greeted upon entry.
Yikes, where do I start? We were seated to wait for a table to open up, we contemplated leaving because the wait was so long & I wish we had left. The food was really salty, hard to enjoy. There was a big chunk of my hibachi steak that was just pure fat (which I don’t believe anyone particularly actually enjoys..). I felt bad for the staff because they were very obviously understaffed. Our waiter was nice but I didn’t know his name and he couldn’t find time to check on us. The social distancing rules weren’t that great inside. My group of 3 including myself was seated with random strangers and it was uncomfortable. It was disappointing to be honest, I even told my cousin we could have gotten better food literally anywhere else. They didn’t have a very big variety of foods usually found in hibachi locations, such as certain sauces, dishes, and desserts. It was also kinda pricey for how extremely mediocre it was. I don’t think we’ll ever go back sorry.
If I can give ZERO STARS for food I WOULD! I wanted a sushi entree tonight. When I got my plate it was poorly put together but I didn’t say anything. My friends had habachi , by the time the show was done my food came out and I couldn’t eat it because my sushi rice was really hard . I asked for the same order but fresh . Our waitress came back with more sushi with hard rice and I told her I can’t eat this.Plus I never got my Philadelphia roll! Now it was too late to order any cooked food and I definitely lost my appetite for sushi . After debating she told me it will be excused from the bill .so now here I am , trying to enjoy my time with my best friends with no food . As my friend was in the middle of eating , the waiter put to-go box infront her when she didn’t ask for any. When my friend asked him “ lol are you guys rushing us to get out ? “ THE WAITER SAID YES ! Like seriously!? When the bill comes they had the nerve to put the Philadelphia on the bill. I will not be coming here again and I don’t recommend coming here
My friend and I ate here last night for the first and last time. I should have known we were in for something interesting when the chef came out and gave this mystery brown liquid instead of the typical white. I believe it was their "house made sauce" and we were never explained what it was. Ginger sauce was fine. Mushroom soup had a very weird aftertaste and my friend and I stopped after one spoonful as we were worried it was going bad. Ordered a baby octopus appetizer that they forgot about until about 75% of the way through the meal. My friend ordered the chicken hibachi and it was incredibly overcooked. No flavor. Hibachi noodles were cooked on the grill for maybe a minute before the chef put them on the plate. Both the noodles and the fried rice were so bland. The table next to us actually asked for salt for their food. Chef didn't seem to notice how to manage the grill because he left the shrimp on the grill for like 8 minutes before serving them fo us, leaving the shrimp incredibly overcooked and impossible eat. I ordered steak and scallops and I asked for steak medium rare, it was barely served medium. Scallops were overcooked and chewy. The only thing my friend and I enjoyed were the two fishbowl cocktails we had, which helped make the experience at this restaurant slightly better. We were also absolutely dying at the decor in the restaurant, especially the giant wall art of the volcano fire that was hanging above the very visible microwave.
This place is a Forest Hills staple. More like a landmark for directions. I’ve known about for years but never tried it until a friend came in to town and wanted hibachi. So this is a one and done for me. I’m not a fan of Japanese steakhouses or hibachi style dining to start. There is the context of my review. The place looks as old as it is and that is not a compliment. Regardless of the health grade posted, I would not send an archenemy to eat here. We all got hibachi but, where is this mediocre meat and vegetable combo sourced from. The chicken was tough and chewy, the shrimp barely tastes like it, and the rice comes from the kitchen, not the grill. My friends liked it and they eat hibachi everywhere. They were surprised about the rice and didn’t like that part though. The “show” was okay and standard but again, I don’t care for that either. The flames were super high and scary if I may mention lol. All this dining experience did was confirm my desire to not go there. I wonder how they survived the pandemic. My teriyaki sauce was quite watered down. Overall my main dish lacked flavor. The best part was the soup and salad apps that come with the hibachi. Sad story. My friends would ask for things and 2-3 things were not available. The place was empty. You simply didn’t order it for it to be available. I’m talking about hibachi staples. Oh well. The server disappeared once the cooking started. If you wanted a refill on beverages or anything else, you were on your own for while. Remember, it was practically empty. One or two tables with guests midweek at night. Thanks but, no thanks. I will continue my relationship with Nobu until I reach Japan.
