Maui Hawaiian BBQ in Fullerton receives positive feedback for its food, especially the crispy chicken katsu. Some customers have experienced longer wait times for their orders. The macaroni salad is considered decent and can be enhanced with chili oil.
Tip: The small chicken katsu order comes with rice and macaroni salad. Add chili oil to the macaroni salad for extra flavor.

Went here for the first time, and the food was delicious. 1. Garlic shrimp - so crunchy and juicy. Not what I was expecting but very ono. I was expecting the garlic shrimp scampi where you have to peel the shrimp. 2. Garlic chicken - Definitely, enjoy eating food when I can get all messy even with something as simple as this. 3. Loco moco- very interesting to me that the sauce was separate. I definitely appreciate that I can pour the sauce myself but I honestly like my loco moco drenched in gravy. Something about it feels so comforting and makes your belly feel all nice and warm inside.
Yummy Hawaiian food. Had the chicken katsu and loved it. My plate was a mini but seems to multiple. Feels luke I havent made a dent and am feeling full. You shoukd check it out if you are looking for quality fast Hawaiian food. Forgive the half eaten mac salad and rice. It is all soooo good.
Great Hawaiian food that completely left me in wow. The BBQ plate was amazing and the spam masubi was very authentic. I highly recommend this place.
Good food. I ordered bbq chicken and bbq pork. Taste good.
Place was nice, food was great except my ribs, people were not to sweet. Food
Love this place! They are always super fast and friendly, love going here for my lunch breaks
My second time there. I was there yesterday, and it was so good, I went there again today. Great kalua pig
Their food was good, ive had multiple items here ranging from their chicken to burger and were all pretty good.
Great food and excellent service. The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get. I will have to visit more often.
Great staff and great food! Would definitely come again!
Great deal, great price love the barbecue beef most satisfying video ever don't take my word for it go there and try to yourself, you wouldn't even believe until you find yourself going back for more..
Good Hawaiian BBQ but if you're looking for a large assortment of plate lunch this isn't the place stick to the basics.
Good food. Good price. Some unique food I had never heard of.
My husband loves this place. He ordered the BBQ chicken and loved it.
This place will take you to the Hawaiian culture via their menu and atmosphere. Everything we have ordered here is very good, esp. the macaroni salad and fluffy white rice for sides. The Chicken Katsu and the Pork BBQ is at the top of our list, but it's hard to decide which selection is the best. Just run down the menu to find your favorite ! Hope you enjoy the food and atmosphere...!
Came in and was welcomed with a great smile and excellent attitude. DeShawn helped me pick exactly what I was looking for and the food was awesome. I got the katsu and short ribs 2 mac one rice. Thanks again I'll be back for sure
Customer service wasn't amazing (based on only one visit!), but the food was tasty. They have low carb options (see the "Atkins" section of the menu), and Pepsi products rather than Coke products.
Food was yummy! We got the Maui combo and BBQ combo, both delicious. Spam musubi was also very good! 10/10 place :D
One of the few places to get great macaroni salad. Their food is tasty and there's plenty of it. If you leave hungry it's your fault.
The best toast pork in Oceanside!
The food here is so good! I love coming here to get the Maui combo with Pork, you get so much food for the price! The staff is also super nice
Really good! I got the BBQ mixed plate! The number 1! It's really good but it is a lot of food! Definitely will b back!
My family and I have enjoyed many delicious Hawaiian meals here. Recently, we used them for my wife's birthday party. The party trays were very plentiful. Our guests absolutely loved the food (short ribs, BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, spam Misubi, Mac salad, and rice). The service is excellent. We highly recommend Maui Hawaiian BBQ for your Aloha dining and parties.
The Loco Moco is my go to item here. It's so good. The gravy that goes on top is delicious.
The food here is always amazing The staff is super kind Highly recommend for a family to eat here
Best Hawaiian food spot in Oceanside. They actually take the time to trim their chicken and pork so you get nice crispy chicken and flavorful kalua pork without the fatty chunks and gristle you get at other spots. At first, I thought maybe I got lucky here, but after 4 years since moving here and trying different spots, this is the only one to consistently have the highest quality katsu and kalua pork in town.
Best Hawaiian food around. Chicken Katsu and cheeseburger are the best! Friendly customer service and an endless menu of food and drink options.
First time trying. Ordered the small chicken katsu and a thai Boba tea. -Small orders come with one scoop each of rice and macaroni salad. -Chicken was so crispy! Macaroni salad was decent, added some of their spicy chili oil and it was tastier. Overall small order a good portion size for one person. Location had lots of parking, inside was clean and the staff was friendly and efficient. Lots of seating inside for a smaller looking establishment. Will try again.
Good food. Nice and comfy, casual islander dining experience. I ordered garlic shrimp and pork& vegetarian potstickers . Maui Combo was pretty good too. Fried fish, bbq chicken and breaded butterfly shrimp that are served with macaroni salad or rice per your choice. We were craving something sweet and tried their cookies and dried mangoes . They were delicious . They also deliver through GrubHub which is convenient if you are in the mood to eat at home .
Always consistently good!! Love the Atkins plate. Clean, friendly, and good service
Maui Hawaiian BBQ is laid out just like L&L Hawaiian BBQ. In fact the menu is pretty much the same. that being said, I feel this place is better. The Kalu pork is better tasting. The Loco Moco gravy here is much tastier, and quality of the beef patty seems to be better. I ordered Manapua on the side, while I prefer baked over steam, the manapua is a lot more digestable here.
The food was yummy. Ordered through Postmates. Their macaroni wasn’t my fav but their bbq chicken and rice was great!
Good service ok food. The food wasn't bad it just wasn't anything that stood out is all. Nice clean restaurant.
Looks like they got new owners. The food was great. Fresh, hot, and big portions
I usually have the chicken katsu. Freshly cooked to order. Food taste better than L&L Hawaiian
Food was okay little dry compared to L&L. Lady at register was very amazing and helpful.
We came here for a late lunch and we got the BBQ chicken and BBQ mixed plate. Hit the spot for Hawaiian flavors.
MHB has a great menu with all your traditional favorites. On this visit, I was craving the LocoMoco, which is such great fuel after being on the water early in the morning. The Loco moco is 2 hamburger patties, with eggs cooked your way on top, smothered in a rich brown gravy atop a bed of fluffy white rice, and all topped off with crisp green onions. All the flavors of the islands make for a great breakfast, or, good for anytime of day, to be honest. The meal comes with a side of hawaiian macaroni salad, which is creamy and tangy. If you top it with some Sriracha, it will be lure perfection to eat. I have also had their katsu chicken, their spam musubi, and their ramen, which are all hands down authentic in flavor and cooked just right. To be honest, a strong contender to Ono or L&L
Really good BBQ Chicken. Make sure to get some Katsu sauce and teriyaki sauce mix them together. Great food! If it's busy you might be waiting a little while though. You can always call ahead.
The Hawaiian Barbeque meat was delicious. The menu would benefit from the addition of some salads. Fortunately, I stumbled upon the mini Atkins plate (Beef, Chicken & an egg over cabbage). I definitely preferred that to macaroni salad and rice.
I love this place. Fair prices and big portions. Great menu for grilled meats. Love the Katsu. great service. Return customer multiple times.
Staff was very friendly. Service is fast and the food is good. Spam musubi was great, perfect balance of spam and rice. Some places cut the spam way to thick.
They've updated their menu and so their prices since I was last there. I had a take out and everything was good. Got to remember to hit those condiments before I leave. But the food portions are good. And my salmon was great! And the employees are very helpful and courteous. Don't know about you, but that matters to me!
Food is great but I think they have some sort of gas leak or something. It makes the place smell terrible and I think it affects the food
Food is always excellent, but the inside is usually messy or it smells funky. Will definitely still buy food from here. I just won’t dine in!!
One of the gems in town for Hawaiian BBQ! Very well maintained and clean. Walking in and hearing the islander music going gets you in the mood for the food. Portions are fair and the food here does not disappoint! They have no fountain drinks at the moment due to covid-19 and have a small selection of drinks in the cooler. The cashier was very friendly and knowledgeable with the menu! I would have given a five star but the cashier was on her personal phone what seemed to be on social media and took her a couple seconds to get off while at the register. Other than that the food was delicious and flavorful! Highly recommend it!
Pretty chill Hawaiian BBQ restaurant. The lady at the register was very friendly and helpful with all my questions. We just ordered a couple orders of the Spam Musubi. Unfortunately these were the smallest spam musubies I have ever eaten, similar to the size of a Twinkie and not the typical spam slice shape. Overall 3 ⭐️
Ordered the Chicken Katsu and it was good. The regular portion is very large. It comes with macaroni salad. Place is very quite.
The food was good but I got the thai tea with Boba and they boba was a whole piece.
Hair on my food. Short curly hair. I was too grossed out that I threw my food away and didn't take pics
The food is alright but I find the mini combos to be really pricey. I think the music was on a little too loud so that made it hard to hear your order number being called especially since the cashier was wearing a mask and there was a plastic barrier. May I suggest a electronic number system? Despite these comments, I certainly appreciate the hard work that you all are doing during this difficult time and I really hope you bounce back to normal again 😊😀 Aloha 🤙🤙
This used to be our goto place for Hawaiian plate lunch. Over the years as they have changed names (and probably ownership) the quality and taste seems to have gone down the hill. For me, as someone who grew up in Hawaii, the true test is how they cook the bbq beef and how they make the macaroni salad. My wife and I stopped here about 3 weeks ago and the mac salad tasted like it was washed in vinegar and totally inedible. Thinking maybe the chef is new, I convinced my wife to stop there today and mentioned to the cashier that the last time we were there there was too much vinegar in the mac salad. She said no they used lemon. But she apparently knew what the "problem" was; they must have gotten complaints about it. So today's mac salad doesn't have trace vinegar at all; in fact the taste lacks any kind of flavorful ingredient at all. It looks like there's mayonnaise on it but it sure doesn't taste like it. What you taste is the smell of a dried macaroni. As for the bbq beef, it's always been a little dry and a little salty. It tastes like it's marinated for several days. But at least the meat is of good quality ... not tough or full of muscles that you can barely chew on like some of the other restaurants who claim to be Hawaiian BBQ restaurant. I would encourage management to take their chefs to a place like L&L which serves real Hawaiian mac salad. I'm being generous by rating the restaurant with 3 stars because I know they can prepare better Hawaiian plate fare.
First thing that happened was, couldn't give me change for my hundred on a 36 dollar order. Couldn't hear the same cashier call our order because the music was too loud, had to go ask. Then at the end of our meal , asked for the code to bathroom and it was wrong , after four trys asked her what the problem was with the code and she told me to wait until she swept the floor. Finally got to use the men's bathroom. Food was meh! Cashier had the personality of a mop!
No longer L&L. Larger menu. Chicken is good. Not undercooked like L&L. Fried fish and shrimp we're sub par. Obviously poor quality fish. Friendly but Slow service.
Food was good, price a little expensive, look of the restaurant is ok, service is good. No Hawaiian music in the background, hip hop, reggaeton and rap......love that music but it just didn't make the mood for Hawaiian food......just saying. I may go back if in the area again......because the food was good.
Friendly service and the food was good but there was nothing special about it. It was just your typical Hawaiian food that you could get an any Hawaiian spot. The mini sized serving was more then enough for just one person however when I asked the size difference between the mini and the larger size the cashier didn’t quite know how to answer the question and just stated that the one size is bigger. The music choice was very strange. It was techno like which didn’t match the Hawaiian theme decor at all
La comida tardo en ser preparada.
The food wasn't that great. The curry didn't come on top of the chicken it was on the side and the curry was just like a gravy with no chunks of veges. I actually wish I went to L&L instead. Totally bummed. Cool vibe though. It also took forever for the food to be done.
"Poonyisa" or whatever her name is, is RUDE as hell. Very, very poor customer service. Decent food. Will still eat there and put up with her attitude. But beware.
Don't make SPAM Moco! Weak! NOT TRUE HAWAIIAN! I WISH I could give half stars! A dis-service. Sad. Disappointing! Where's L&L Hawaiian BBQ. Not a schilling just disappointed!
Food was so-so, counter girl was rude and did not seem to care about customers and could not answer questions correctly. Then forgot some Of my order.
Good food, terrible customer service. As a Hawaiian, I take pride in finding good mix plate away from the islands. The last girl just threw my change at me and I did nothing wrong. Coins hurt when you unexpectedly get pelted in the face with them, just fyi.
I love the food here, especially the pork dumplings ❤ However this morning when I came in for the first time in a while the customer service was really bad. The lady at the counter was extremely rude and full on insulted me becuase I had a question about an item on their menu, and told me to read the menu before asking questions. 👎 I was so shocked I ordered less food that originally intended. Not sure if I'll return. I work in the restaurant industry and I know I would never treat a customer the way she treated me.
Ordered Spam Musubi and it's disappointing to barely get spam. It was so thin and the rice was just stacked. I asked myself, what was the point. Please do better 🙏
The new order taker is very confrontational. I have been eating here for years and getting the same thing. She told me what I ordered was never done the way I asked, that's ok if it is a new policy. She didn't have to lecture me that has always been the policy as she stated it. She then forgot the gravy for the loco moco.
The garlic shrimp was disappointing they left the skin of garlic in the cabbage and burnt the garlic. I'm thinking it was shrimp tails after two bites I was wrong!👎👎👎👎😡😡😡😡. I will not be returning!
All I know about this place is that you have to call them 1 hour ahead. No matter what time or what day I order they always seemed to be behind, really good food but at times people might be in a rush and I fee That if you call 15-20 in advance they should be able to handle that. (Hire more help maybe) 🤷🏻♂️
Wow change of ownership in the last month or so sooo chinsey 19$ for a bb Chicken plate egg going there forever. No way complete rip-off GO TO L& L
Food was over cooked had a Loco moco. I didn't finish it. Chicken catsu was extremely dry. Waste of 34 bucks plus tip The worst was the customer service. The lady was rude and didn't have the sprit of Aloha. She totally made the experience bad. Never going back.
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I was in the area and I decided to give this place a try because I was in a pinch for a time. I usually go to Onos though. The food here is awful. The chicken was bland, dry, and had an unusual smell, and the rice was crunchy and overcooked. The Mac salad looked rotten like it had been sitting out for some time. The taste was nauseating to say the least. I wouldn’t eat here even if someone paid me. I took maybe 5 bites and threw the whole plate away.
I’d rate this place a zero but I can’t. I’ve been cleaning all day and I wanted some take out. This isn’t my first time ordering from this place but they’ve disappointed me more than a few times now so I’m writing this review. Not only they got my orders wrong more than a few times now. The food quality is not so great. The kalua pork was dry and no cabbage. They messed up my loco moco. How do you not put gravy and eggs?! How do you mess that up? It’s hilarious to the point where I don’t have the energy to even get mad. And when I called to let them know, the guy in the end didn’t seemed like he cared. It was the same guy I talked to on the phone when I ordered. My sister picked up the food for me and she told me the customer service working in the counter was pretty rude as well. Sad because I’ve been going to this spot for over 5 years now. I wonder if management has changed? The service was never this awful. Me and my family will no longer be coming to this Hawaiian bbq spot.
I ordered the manapua pork and there was mold on it. I ate one before I noticed it on the second one. It quickly found its way out of my stomach and into the trash. Not coming back.
This used to be one of our favorite places to go for musabi rolls. We stopped going about 2 years ago. I decided to give a random try again today because I really want some spam. I spent $10 on 4 musabi rolls that were really burnt. The first bite you could tell right away they were dry and hard. All 4 of them were burnt and left a really bad taste. I can't say I'm surprised considering the quality had to change before we decided to stop going. The spam were cut really thin- so it's mainly rice. My question is if you can't even cook spam right, then what can you cook? I will not be returning again.
Very salty, inauthentic. They also use Styrofoam for EVERY individually separate food item you order, I thought a plate lunch was supposed to come all on the same plate
It took them longer than what they said to get our food and then they gave didn't even give me the food I ordered. I ordered chicken and they gave me beef.
My family, including my 1 year old got food poisoning from this place!!! Diarrhea, vomiting, headache and fevers. We believe it was the mac salad, but who knows. It was the only common thing we ate om Friday.
Cashier needs to attend to food orders waiting to be picked up. I understand taking in more orders, but our food was cold by the time it was handed to us.
Took way to long to get food and the cashier got the order wrong. Was asked if katsu or bbq. We said bbq and still got katsu. We waited again for a while even though orders after had bbq chicken
Waited 20+ minutes for 2 overpriced smoothies that were watered down. People got food and ate by the time the 2 drinks were ready.
Ordered on grub hub app. Food was not ready when driver got there, and it was cold when it got to me. I got the bbq beef plate. I woke up the next day with food poisoning.
Have waited almost 2 hours for my food and they expect me to pay for it if I cancel. So unprofessional, will never order from here again!!!!!!!!
Been here twice before and both times I’ve had bad experiences, the food is great but the service is questionable there is this one young girl employee that’s seems annoyed and rude whenever I come in. Makes me not want to come again, I hope you guys can do something to fix this problem.
It has been over a week since I ate there and I still can't think of a place that had tougher meat and worse food
Cashier stood in corner fiddling with mundane work instead of handling customers. Took too long to get food and there is no website.
This place is a joke. ordered off Uber eats cuz I have no gas and I was so hungry. First they said they didn’t even have my order because their “machines weren’t on yet” .. so waited 30 extra minutes so then I come home and I open the box and ATLEAST half of it was BURNT hard chicken + the plate didn’t even have the sides I asked for.. it’s funny because whoever made it tried to hide the black chicken at the bottom of the plate so nobody would see it and say something… now I have to waste the gas that I don’t even have to go back… never again … Waste of time, gas, and money. Go to L&L Hawaiian instead. Only good thing about this place is the location and they know it. first order of the day and you can’t even make it correctly? …Or let alone redo it when you know you messed up🙄. Here’s a tip GET A BETTER COOK!!!
Place seemed great. In town for the weekend don’t allow myself to eat food from home much anymore considering I’m a body builder so was very much looking forward to some amazing juicy pig and was very disappointed. Meat was dry rice was hard macaroni salad didn’t taste like authentic recipes. Ordered other food because I was so upset.
Worst Hawaiian bbq ever. Ordered the combination plate of 3 bbq meat. No pork just bone, chicken in small proportion and dried out with soy sauce. No side of sauce and macaroni salad rancid. Not even the kimchi was digestible. Called and complained for owner to be advised and couldn’t verify caller which had no interest in the food ordered vs pic. I will never order again and will share experience with family and friends
Stole my money. Top 5 worse restaurant experience. Wouldnt recommend to a friend. Charged me twice at the register. Something hiccuped inbetween credit card reader and in-house sytem. After i initially paid for my food the cashier told me to run my card again. I informed her that the reader said approved. She asked me to run it again. i informed her once again it said approved and i hope im not going to be charged twice. She said i would not. I ran my card again. it was approved once again and the system registered it. Being concerned i was charged twice. i excused myself to a table to check my bank to see if i was charged twice. looking at my accout information it showed that yes i was charged twice. I then went to the counter to show the cashier my bank information. I showed that i had been charged twice and that i would like my money back. She said No I showed her again my bank info and the double charge. she said it was not her problem the system messed up and she would not give me money back. I should call my bank. I tried to walk her through what happened and to please give me the money back. My bank is not who double charged me. We continued to argue but after 15 minutes of refusal i figured it best i leave so i could enjoy my now cold food that had miraculously become twice as expensive. Im not sure what I can do but leave this review. The food here is great but beware of their customer service, they are a bunch of thieves.
The worst representation of Hawaiian food! Ordered spam misupi and it was dry and tasted like microwave heated. DO NOT GO HERE! Our whole meal was thrown in the trash after a few bites.
Food is ok. Their macaroni can improve. Giving it a 1 star for sanitary. Trying this place out during the covid19 and I see some staff members not covering their mouth AND nose with a mask and that person is the one handling the food. Big concern since covid19 is so contagious. The previous time I came here too there were flies flying around.
I came in yesterday and had to use the bathroom. The bathroom smelled so strong of sewer I almost passed out. I let the staff know they said my bad I'll let the owner know. The food was dry and flavorless. The Mac had the taste of a fridge not even mediocre and over priced. I was hoping it would of been a better L&L but didn't come close.
Red headed girl, looks like she is new because she was being trained on how to use the cash register and seems like she doesn’t even want to work there. She had an attitude and a bit of sas when giving me my order. Customer service is what I enjoy the most when going to any establishment! I didn’t feel welcome here, hopefully she has a better attitude next time. If not I definitely won’t be taking my money here.
This place has been going down and this last time will be the last time. Went here Saturday with my husband. He ordered the LauLau/Kalua Pork & Cabbage Combo, I ordered a LauLau Combo. What I got was something that looked like a big serving crispy Pork Adobo. We went back to get my LauLau. Pork in both combos was very dry. My husbands Kalua Pork w/Cabbage was a raw bed of cabbage not the "Pork w/cabbage from before. Oh, and the sewer stench from outside is inside as well, kinda covered by the cooking smell. Main item was in a piece of aluminum foil which was strange. On way home we had to stop so that I can throw up. Simply awful.
the food is just ok but it has no flavor whatsoever. these people are just super lazy. they don’t even cook veggies properly. what really bothered me was how greedy they are on the sauce. it’s pathetic . they charge way too much for the product. go elsewhere.
Placed a big order and the lady at the cashier repeated the orders. Completely messed up everything and forgot to even put in an order. I live far so hard for me to even drive back. The bag with the food was sealed when given.
I use to come here with my boyfriend all the time. We use to lived right behind the mall and this was our go to place but I was just in the area doing homework and waited 20. minutes to get my food. Weirdly enough the people who ordered after me got their food before I did and we basically how the same thing. I order a bbq chicken plate and they order Katy’s chicken. Working in the food industry and this is definitely not acceptable. I am disappointed of the service and waiting time to get my food. I asked for the cashiers name, and she gave me the name of Apple. Shed a nice smile but still doesn’t make up for the service. I understand you might have favorites but don’t let the customers see that.
