We had a lovely Christmas gift from our friend to go along for a 2 course meal for two in Bo'Vine at The Grosvenor Hotel in Glasgow's Byres Road. Great food and excellent service by Izzy, Niamh and Mazen. Our friend also had a voucher but decided to come along with us and the restaurant allowed our 2 courses plus wine or beer for 4 become 3 courses for 3 which was lovely. I had the Greek salad which came with a type of wafer on top that exploded with flavour in my mouth. I asked what it was and was told crystallised balsamic vinegar. I followed that with a gorgeous fillet of seabass with crushed potato and green beans. Hubby had tomato and basil soup, the Bo'Vine Burger then sticky toffee pudding and ice cream with a couple of budweisers to wash it all down. Yvonne had haggis bonbons with whisky sauce, chicken stuffed with chorizo then a forest fruits crumble tart and ice cream that she thoroughly enjoyed with a couple of glasses of red wine. All were fabulous and appreciated. Lovely surroundings with a great relaxed atmosphere. Thanks Bo'Vine. Xx Janice, David & Yvonne
A lovely afternoon tea in a great setting. The array of sandwiches and cakes was fantastic and they catered for my gluten intolerance. Service was excellent.
Excellent presentation & food was delicious We ordered the pair and blue cheese tart & beetroot starter. Ox Cheek was so tender, wonderful & and the salmon was delicious for the mains. Dessert was rice pudding and apple crumble. Yeah!
Lovely afternoon tea/coffee well worth it , very elegant staff professional well done 💕
Had a afternoon tea and it was lovely, great choice of sandwiches and cakes. Staff were fantastic and very accommodating.
The ambience was great, food was lovely and came on time, made to specific requests too. And yes, tasty. Staff were friendly, helpful and kind, indeed a credit to the organisation. Overall, my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening and would be back again and again.
Truly excellent dinner service. I came to try the haggis bonbon appetisers which had been recommended since the Hilton no longer offers any with breakfast. I was able to choose a secluded little corner and get on with a little work over a glass of wine completely uninterrupted. Faultless, and excellent pudding besides.
Really friendly staff and great service, scones were still warm :) Thoroughly recommend the afternoon tea through here, great way to break the day up between the Glasgow Botanics and the Kelvinegrove Art Gallery and Museum.
The steak was so juicy and tender. It doesn't look like a massive amount but it went a very long way. I was absolutely stuffed! I thought everything was cooked extremely well. The chips light fluffy and crispy. The steak a gorgeous medium rare. The desserts were beautiful. I had a raspberry and white chocolate frangipane tart, the sweet pastry had a nice even golden colour and was extremely delicious. The raspberry and white chocolate were a match made in heaven, they had a lovely balance of flavour, and the apple crumble was gorgeous, hearty and homely. The server was so sweet and lovely, helpful and patient! I didnt get her name, but thank you!! Overall, a wonderful meal to celebrate my 30th birthday, really enjoyed it and will recommend to friends.
The ladies in the restaurant were very helpful we were first in the dining room and the service was really good it filled up quickly but I noticed everyone got served fast and efficient food was delicious I would definitely recommend and will be back
Delicious chateaubriand as always, lovely, attentive staff, and in beautiful surroundings, you can't ask for much more on a Monday night. Steak was perfect and the haggis fritter starter was very tasty, the goats cheese tomato salad was light and creamy. Overall, a great meal and can't wait for the next visit.
Had a lovely Afternoon Tea, sandwiches, scones and dainty cakes were all delicious. Endless pots of tea. We were given this as a gift.
We had the chateaubriand steak, we usually prefer differently cooked steak so we settled on medium rare, and it was delicious. Lovely atmosphere too, nice music. We ordered some sides to go with the dish, Mac and cheese and onion rings, which were phenomenal. Even though we were full, we looked at the dessert menu, and both decided to have the plum and apple crumble. There are no words to describe how amazing this was. Not only was it wonderful but it was a huge bowl, more like a home served portion rather than a restaurant portion. Would definitely come back.
Food was amazing, the fillet steak with onion rings were excellent and my partner was very pleased too with the rib eye. The staff were very friendly and made our dining experience one to remember. Prices were a little steep compared to other restaurants but I can't fault the food, presentation or taste as was delicious 😋
On the Itison, Chateaubriand Steak with Fries & Sides to Share + Prosecco deal. Great food, prompt service and friendly staff. What more could you ask for. We added the Mac n' cheese which was delicious, and finished off with the After 8 desert which was amazing. Bo'Vine is the perfect location in the heart of the West End. Needs no more explanation !!!
Very nice chateaubriand with garlic butter. Cooked exactly as we wanted. Only issue was with the drinks. Ordered a large white wine and red wine, but we were served small wines and they tried to charge us for the large ones. Simple mistake. That said the house wines were very nice.
Highly recommend having dined here several times whilst staying as a hotel guest. The quality of the food is excellent with some creative and innovative menu choices and a good selection of wines. Pricing is very agreeable, the £30 3-course menu is outstanding value. Dining experience is rounded off by very attentive and professional staff and a pleasant atmosphere.
I love Bo'vine Meats & Wines. I haven't been for quite a few years but have always remembered having lovely steaks here and always good service. I am glad to report that nothing has changed. The food and service were excellent and the ambience is as good as ever.
The afternoon tea was lovely. Everything was fresh and were assured that we could have more but what we had was enough for us. The servers were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We would definitely love to come back.
The afternoon tea was excellent and very tasty. Also very kindly took special note of the dietary requirements. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We had a lovely meal for our daughters birthday. The staff were really nice and the food was great . We will definitely return
Went last night to Bo Vine to use a groupon voucher 2 x courses, 2 x people and 2 x drinks, for the price of the voucher this was great value, we had the poached egg/black pudding starter, prawn cocktail, then traditional turkey dinner, and a steak and chips. It was all lovely, think it would usually be £35 a head which I thought was quite good too. If you’re looking for a starting point/meeting point for dinner and drinks at West End I would choose here, lovely venue, bar staff and waiting staff very efficient and friendly, great location. Some of the negative reviews on here very harsh, if you’re looking for much better food, you’ll need to pay a much higher price, this is nice edible food, good service and lovely surroundings. The BeGin is also lovely to go after dinner for some more drinks too. Really couldn’t fault it, for the negative reviewers, what are you expecting for the price?!
We were a table of 13 we had booked which was no problem, there were 2kids 2 vegetarians all were catered for the food was amazing the staff went above and beyond including the manager nothing was too much bother for them. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone, we will certainly be back.
Very nice establishment built onto and part of the Grovesnor hotel. Staff are very friendly upon arrival, and unbeknown to us, until 6:30pm you can order a 2 course meal for £16 (I can’t quite remember !!!) or a 3 course for a bit more, we arrived at 6:20pm and still got the deal from the fantastic waitress, I had the Liver Pate which was delicious but could of come with a little less more toast for the size of the portion, following by the Bovine Burger for my Main which was beautiful. Great service great prices I will be back again.
The waitstaff are phenomenal, the food less so. I ordered a cucumber & kiwi carpaccio salad which was interesting, followed by a rib eye. Despite ordering it medium-rare, I got a steak that was at best medium - well done. Note that the steak wasn't seared either :( I also ordered a bottle of still water, only to be told there was no bottled water!!! No still or sparkling bottled water, which is a bit odd. Not a place that I would add to my list of restaurants to revisit.
We had let staff know very early about an allergy to lime, but when the 2nd round of drinks came to our table, both drinks had a slice of lime, food was very nice, staff were friendly, everywhere was clean and tidy. We asked for alternative to prosecco and was only offered soft drinks, that was fine, but then a party with more guests asked to speak to the manager about their alternative to prosecco and got a choice of wine or a bottled beer, seems like that person had been there before
All 3 of us had haggis bon bons to start with and then I shared the Chateaubriand with triple cooked fries. The Chateaubriand was cooked perfectly for the two of us so tender it was amazing. The other person had the braised feather blade of beef on their 2 courses for £15.95, check the times for that offer. The Chateaubriand was amazing but it isn't something I would buy straight off the menu, we had an offer which work out half price for it. I really love their food and have been a few times, I'm always happy to go back. Other restaurants are known to be a steak place but Bo'Vine is just as good if not better and the price, especially the deal, is good.
We celebrated my graduation at Bovine and our server Andrew was absolutely fantastic. He was so great with the full group and really made my night even more special. Thanks to Andrew and the team for a great night.
We were given an “Itison” voucher as a gift at Christmas. The voucher was for Chateaubriand Chips and salad with a drink. The staff were very accommodating in that the offer was for Prosecco which we didn’t care for but we were able to change that to House Red at no extra charge, thank you. The steak was lovely, cooked just as we asked, and the accompanying items were fine. The only complaint was the temperature of the food could have been warmer. It was just about acceptable as we started to eat but quickly cooled and by the time we got to the end of our meal it could only be described as cold. The staff were friendly and we did inform the young female waitress of our view of the temperature of the food, she asked if we wanted to speak to someone about it but we were happy for her to pass on our remarks to the relevant persons. The restaurant is quite large large with lots of the tables in small booths which looked to be quite intimate and cosy, unfortunately the table we were shown to was at the side next to the bar, not the best seat with staff going back and forth with food and drinks. Given only three or four tables were occupied I feel we could have been given a better table. Maybe it was because we were on a “Voucher “ It would not stop us returning or recommending this restaurant but next time we book we will make sure we ask for a booth.
We visited at 5pm for the Valentine's deal for dinner for a couple. Staff were very attentive from the moment we entered until the minute we left. The food was excellent, steaks cooked to perfection We have been to the restaurant many times for the above reasons and plan to visit many times in the future Our booking was at 5pm so the restaurant was pretty quiet at that time
Unfortunately we expected more of this venue. Firstly I booked a table online for 9pm. Arrived at 8:45 to be told that the kitchen was closing. Staff didn’t understand how I had a 9pm booking even when shown the confirmation email. We were asked to order quickly due to this. Fillets were cooked to perfection but unfortunately the meat quality wasn’t great and we have had better quality supermarket cuts. Not much flavour and extremely tough/ chewy for medium cooked although colour perfect. Otherwise a nice restaurant. Young girl serving was nice and French martini was lovely.
Food was fine but the service really let this place down.
The food is great. Actually incredible. But the portions border on a joke for the price charged. The prices would not seem high if the portions even resembled an entree, but it’s as if they are trying to be hip and minimalistic. If you like great food but aren’t hungry this place is for you.
I was gifted an afternoon tea with prosecco for Christmas, we were given tea and our prosecco shortly after arrival, then the food on the cake stand. Sandwiches were good, however the scones weren't baked properly and were doughy in the middle, the cakes looked very nice but had no taste. No one came and asked if everything was OK or if we wanted another drink etc. We sat for quite some time before we left without anyone coming to the table eventhough the restaurant had very few people in it. The afternoon tea was quite disappointing if I'm honest as I have had very good afternoon tea's at hilton hotels on many occasions.
We were a party of 5 . We had booked in advance to celebrate a graduation . We arrived in time 5.15. There was no one else in the restaurant when we arrived. The first disappointment was that there was only one bottle of coronna lager, we had asked for 2. Alternatives had to be taken. This is a steak house. We were therefor again disappointed to be told that only one of us could have the steak cut we ordered as there was only one- rib eye steak available...we had wanted 4. That said the food ( alternatives which had to be picked at more cost) was well cooked to our different requirements and enjoyable. The service was nothing special and certainly no one checked how our food was until we were paying for the meal.
My steak was excellent easily a 10. However the desserts let the meal down badly. My Christmas pudding was burnt on the bottom to the Point it was not edible as the fruit very hardy it was very disappointing. My wife’s strawberry Alaska bomb was so frozen she could hardly use her spoon to cut into it. It eventually thawed enough to start eating but only after quite a few minutes attending to eat it. We did point out the dessert to the manager who was apologetic and offered an alternative but I had had enough. Overall we have loved the restaurant and we’re excited as it was our 23rd wedding anniversary and had our reception in the Grosvenor. So we were let down on our special night. As the dinner was a gift we were glad we didn’t have to pay for it.
We walked in for a dinner prior to attending an event nearby. The staff member at the desk didnt know if he could get us a table, leaving that decision to the manager. Wonder why that was? Sadly no we weren't dressed in suits, but my money's just the same I thought... Our orders were taken after a decent period to allow us to settle. Steaks were okay, the thick chips more like a roast potato consistency to me, but I ate them. Pudding of chef's sundae of After Eights was bit heavy but didn't really say no. Food okay i guess. I'm no gourmet, but certainly I've enjoyed better in my opinion, but heyho it's another experience. Did feel that it was a wee bit uppity; did not get the feeling we were as welcome as the other diners. They didn't refuse the tip though... Wouldn't rush to go back I'm afraid, but don't think my custom will be missed.
I was extremely disappointed to find last night that Bovine was operating from a very bland conference room in The Grosvenor. Regardless of whatever works or refurb you were dealing with, I should have been informed and given the opportunity to reschedule which I would have done. The food was good and the staff nice, but your management decision to crack on like this was very poor. Really disappointed.
🚨 I would I not waste a penny going here, it looks high end and prices are high end, we waited 20 mins to be offered drinks and where about to leave when we finally got served it wasn’t busy, we had soup and chicken liver parfait for starters totally tasteless, then a sirloin steak meal and burger meal, the fries where freezing cold on my burger meal and it wasn’t well done, the sirloin was supposed to be well done and was pink it was the worst cut of meat I’ve ever seen and very over priced it was very pale looking like cheap meat, we bought our child a 12” margarita and when it arrived it was a tiny Chicago town pizza to top it all off my partner couldn’t eat the steak dinner there was a full steak dinner still sitting and when we explained to the manager they only took 10% off and made us still pay for the steak dinner which was disgusting, it looks beautiful and high end from the outside but please don’t be fooled the full meal was not worth the money we paid. We love trying new restaurants a few times a week and we are in total shock about this one as we have been meaning to try it for a while since buying our home in Glasgow we where expecting high end especially with the prices on the menu. I wouldn’t waste your money. This is more like something from a brewers fayre restaurant terrible quality of food.
Very basic afternoon tea could probably have whipped up something more appealing at home to be honest. Very very slow service for drinks. Coffee was cold. Food was so basic and not up to thr standard that would be expected from somewhere like the grosevner hotel or bo'vine. No atmosphere no music and absolutely roasting hot. Too many check ins from staff constantly over asking us if we need anything. Cocktail made it to us after about 20 mins and it was really messy and partially split down the glass stem. All in all I wouldnt rate it or return which is such a shame because we were going to do bovine for an upcoming family celebration but we will be looking elsewhere instead now.
Absolutely the worst afternoon tea experience ever! My friend and I have had afternoon tea numerous times in the Grosvenor and rated it one of the best in Glasgow but we’ll never go back now that it’s not in the Terrace. We arrived yesterday to a member of management having an argument on the phone to someone about a lack of chefs (should never be happening within earshot of customers!). The lady who was clearly the supervisor that greeted us was miserable and clearly unorganised. We were left waiting while she went to wipe down a table and clear it of previously used crockery before we were seated. The table was not set up in advance (this was clearly the case for other guests arriving after us to a similar ‘welcome’). Surely when you have to book a time to attend, there should be appropriate tables set up ready for your arrival? The table was set up by a junior member of staff who brought crockery, cutlery, etc in 4 trips- when I got my cup and saucer I was told “that’s the only cup I could find”! We waited 20 minutes for our Prosecco. We had to complain about the sandwiches - 1 ham sandwich had only a 1.5cm square of ham on it! We were offered replacement sandwiches then waited a further 15minutes for them to arrive. We overheard similar complaints of being kept waiting and wrong orders brought from the tables around us. It honestly felt like we were in a Fawlty Towers set-up! All in all, it was a dreadful experience and one which will certainly never be repeated. A very poor show all round!
Terrible Experience My team and I visited for our Christmas night out and I can say without hesitation that we had the worst dining experience we have ever had. I cannot with good conscience allow anyone else to spend their hard earned cash in a restaurant that is trading on a reputation that it clearly can no longer live up to. A rundown of the evening: 50 minutes for a first drink (the restaurant was empty) and while I appreciate that some of us ordered cocktails, to have only one semi-trained bartender seems ludicrous. Subsequent drinks orders had to be placed by searching for a staff member and waiting an inordinately long time. When I went to the bar to ask for a red wine glass (I had already asked a waiter but none was forthcoming) I was handed a gin glass and told just use this, it's pretty much the same shape as our red wine glasses! Staff who were clearly untrained on the bar, waiting tables and also serving food and who very rarely came to tables to check if we needed anything The first starters (4 bowls of lukewarm soup) arrived after over an hour. After 10 minutes another 4 bowls arrived. After a further 10 minutes, the cold salmon starters arrived. Those who had received their starter first were long finished by the time the salmon arrived. We had selected our order weeks prior to our visit but had to reselect when we arrived as the menu had changed. Those who chose sirloin steak diane, dauphinoise potatoes and buttered carrots, received a small fillet steak, fries, a mushroom, tomato and some had a soggy pile of rocket (except the person opposite me who only received a single rocket leaf!) The sauce had clearly been watered down to feed enough people and for some reason there were insufficient sauce boats. Disjointed service and inconsistency in the contents of the main courses There was zero atmosphere in the restaurant. The table behind us eventually left as they had received no food. The family next to us. who were seated at 8pm, were finally served their food when we left at 10.30pm The whole experience took so long that we had limited time at the place we had booked and paid to go to after dinner In all honesty the whole situation became farcical. It reminded me of Fawlty Towers sketch. In all my years of dining out, I have never had an experience quite like it. To take my entire staff out for a Christmas meal to thank them for their work over the year and for them to be treated like this was frankly embarrassing as an employer. As a company to fall so far of the mark, they ought to be ashamed. The restaurant manager was clearly mortified and the duty manager refused to come and speak to us. When I spoke to the next day's duty manager, he agreed that we should be refunded so we can take our team out somewhere else. I am still waiting to be contacted about this a week later.
As I told the manager when I had to track them down to pay my bill. My family’s experience at Bo Vine was “abissmal’. From the moment we walked in we felt like we were somehow bothering staff for being there. 25 minutes after ordering our simple appetizer of bread did not show up and no one had come by to check on us so I tracked down the server/manager and asked about the bread and was told sorry and that it would be right out. 15 minutes later our steaks arrived along with the bread and we were told that the bread would not be charged. Steaks were severely undercooked and literally room temperature. My family was starving so the reluctantly just ate the rare steaks that were ordered as medium and medium rare. Nearly 30 mins after we received our food we still had not seen anyone coming by to check how things were. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the restaurant had 7 tables with customers, not busy at all. When I could finally flag down an employee we were told ‘sorry’ again and that we would get 10% off our dinner and that we could have a dessert for free. The manager mentioned that had we told them the steaks were not cooked right they would’ve fixed them. I had to mention that if someone would’ve bothered coming to check on us we would’ve told them but no one bothered. Finally asked to pay the bill and the manager dropped it off and walked away. I couldn’t assign it to my room because she didn’t bother giving us a pen and after 15 mins I walked to the front to pay because otherwise I feel I would’ve been waiting all night. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone at all. For what it costs to eat at Bo Vine and for my family’s dinner during our vacation being a terrible experience means I would never set foot in Bo Vine ever again. Mark
Very very slow service and inexperienced staff. Way too expensive for what you get. Would not recommend.
I booked Bo Vine for my sons 30th Birthday (27/09/25) as he had been before and really enjoyed it. We had 14 in our party. To say I/we were disappointed is an understatement. We waited an hour and a half for our food to arrive, most of them did but 3 of our party waited an additional 20mins for theirs and 2 off them were cold!. Not once did they clear the table of glasses or plates until we asked the staff to. One of the staff held a tray with 2 full jugs of water over my baby granddaughters head and when I asked him to move it, his response was its OK. Dont worry!!. The younger ones then waited over half an hour for their desserts, despite asking staff twice for them and being told they are on their way. The ladies toilets were a disgrace. Not clean at all... I raised all my concerns with the manager, who did apologise and offered me a reduction on the bill, which I accepted. But on looking at the bill properly this morning. The reduction was not actually as they offered. I have given a 1 star forbthe atmosphere as what ever nusic they were playing kept jumping snd changing mid way through songs. A 3 star for the food as most of it was delicious, but I am sorry to say that I(nor my family) will return to Bo Vine or recommend it to others.
This is the fourth time we have been to Bo'Vine. What a disappointment compared to our previous visit! Mediocre at best. The ripped menu was stabled together - should have been a warning sign as to how cash strapped they appear to be. The service was unimpressive. Plates were almost thrown down. Steak knives discarded in a pile instead of swapping them out with the standard knives. The Sauvignon Blanc was warm and bland. We ordered three steaks - fillet, rib-eye, and sirloin. The first two were appalling quality. When we were asked how our meal was, I pointed this out. The icing on the cake of a poor evening, was the response from the chef - it wasn't his fault, he'd taken pictures to send to the supplier. It's your kitchen - ultimately everything coming out of it is your responsibility.
Had a birthday dinner and met a really nice waitress. We got drinks, then ordered our apps and entrees. The app came out like, 30 minutes later, and then we waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food, so we just canceled it. The waitress felt so bad, I felt bad for her. We asked to speak to the manager, and he said they were short-staffed in the kitchen...everyone in the restaurant was waiting forever for their food. Just bad communication.
Awful service, not matching the price point, was expecting high end. Long delays and lots of loud chat to guests about discounts and vouchers made us feel awkward. Lowered the tone. Is it supposed to be high end? Food was good but presentation made it look bad, needs work. Prime location and to see it ran like that is a shame, wouldn’t recommend.
We had a table for two here on Friday night and we were very disappointed with the overall experience. This place gives off high end, however, is an overpriced Wetherspoons. Poor service from staff - waited a long time for drinks with no explanation and no one checked in on us until we were almost finished. I wish I had followed my gut and walked straight back out.
Waited 5 minutes at the door while staff ignored us. Mains came an hour after starters, and the three steaks were all mixed up. My chips were soggy and tasteless, and the “steak sauce” was basically a bowl of melted butter with garlic. Easily one of the worst meals I’ve had.
