First time visiting Massey’s in Glen Rose on Father’s Day. Met Mr. Massey at the door with the family and he explained everything to as far as ordering. I’m always excited to try new BBQ. We tried several different items from the menu and they were all good. The best were the ribs and the brisket nachos. No BBQ restaurant is ever going to please everyone because each person has their own idea of “the best”. I’ve had BBQ all over the United States and every place in Granbury with some just being inedible. Massey’s has a good flavor with just enough smoke. Too much smoke and that’s all you taste and it’s bitter and terrible. Thanks Mr. Massey for helping make this a great Father’s Day. We will be back.
Oh my!!! The owner Todd gives this place a personal feel .... He meets customers and walks them through the menu and oh boy The biggest problem you're going to have is choosing which one to eat. If you had a group of 10 people and they all order different things you will wish you had what the other person asked the question. That would be easier to answer by far is if anything doesn't work for you personal and it would probably be less than two or three things on the entire manual. Everything is amazingly delicious!!! We took our whole group of 30 plus men and they fed us like Kings
Excellent food, charming and welcoming staff and proprietor (very nice to meet you, Mr. Massey!), extremely efficient service, and a very clean and cool atmosphere! Perfect fit for our whole party - including two bbq loving adults, a picky kid and a vegetarian. Thanks for a great lunch - we will be back!
This was our first visit and will not be our last! The barbecue was excellent and the staff was friendly and helpful. We were a party of four and all of us ordered different items. Everyone loved their dishes and the portions were generous. Massey's is our new barbecue restaurant and is worth the drive from Granbury. You won't be disappointed.
Took my Mom here for her 75th birthday lunch. I want to shout out Lilly who took our order! Exceptional customer service! Would return just based on her service alone! Loved the atmosphere and food! Excellent moist brisket!
I love the meats; macaroni and cheese is smooth and yummy!! The potatoe salad is creamy and I love mustard potato salad. There’s so many options and it all al la cart. Will definitely take big group here. Large family gatherings atmosphere. The owner is welcoming and always at the front door. Love that!! Would securely recommend this eatery for all. Raining when we went but they have outdoor eating area that is covered and place for kids to play- and adults too!!
We headed to Glen Rose for some of the outdoor activities, but it was raining the whole time, so we had to find some indoor fun. We stumbled on this place, and it was fantastic. The portion sizes are HUGE, and so bring your appetite. It's an authentic Texas barbeque spot with a family-friendly atmosphere. The Mac n cheese was the bomb!
Excellent food and service. The onion rings are a must! Really great patio area. They happened to have an a bluegrass band playing when we went which added a lot to the atmosphere.
We love Masseys! We have always had great service & some of the best BBQ around.
When you first come in you get to meet Mr Massey himself. Very nice guy and friendly. I have this place 5 stars because this place is very good and I would recommend it to anyone looking.for good BBQ. Very good and cant wait to go back again
We were greeted by Mr. Massey we walked in. It really made us feel at home.Very friendly staff and the ribs were excellent.
Massey's BBQ, near Glen Rose, hosted an Elvis impersonator. The chopped BBQ sandwich had just the right combination of sweet and savory flavor. The music had people on their feet as Elvis serenaded the ladies. I recommend this dinner and entertainment venue if you're visiting in the Granbury/Glen Rose vicinity. For food and fun, give Massey's a try!😊
Unmatched customer service. The owner himself makes sure to shake his hand and introduce himself to every customer that walks in. If it’s your first time he personally walks through the menu with us. I know the focus is on the bbq but the onion rings and fries were the favorite of my family! Delicious food and great family friendly atmosphere.
We ate at Massey's on Saturday, 5/25/24 - food was excellent, the brisket was tender and delicious, macaroni was on point, baked potato was fresh, and the hand battered onion rings were fantastic! The service was great, everyone was super welcoming and helpful! We've been to the Massey's in Alvarado many times, so our expectations were high and this location did not disappoint. I will say, we were a bit confused about where to order upon walking in, but now that we know, we won't have troubles next time. The only negatives I will say is that the tea tasted watered down and it was freezing in the front silo room. Other than that, it was a very pleasant experience!
I thought the sign outside said Sexton Mills ?? The food was FABULOUS!! I don't really like the way everything is in a paper boat ... It was awkward... Maybe the okra and fries is ok served that way but IDK about all the rest... My husband normally doesn't care for brisket but he loved this brisket!! Loved the pinto beans, baked potato and chopped sandwich!!Will definitely be returning!!
We got out tonight to try the new restaurant in town. We were greeted right away by the girls working and the owner. We had a loaded potato with chopped brisket with the spicy sauce, loaded nachos with chopped brisket, loaded nachos with pulled pork, and sampled the bologna. Everything was great! We are happy to have this new gem right down the road! The property was spacious and beautiful! I saw margarita machines, so maybe they will have some drinks soon!!
The loaded nachos with chopped brisket are DELICIOUS, a good portion, and reasonably priced. Mr. Massey greeted us at the door with a handshake and warm welcome. Very clean and spacious place. The service was great the entire time. We will definitely be back!
Top notch customer service - from the minute you walk in until you leave the staff is friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. My husband had the Massey burger and almost did not finish. I brought 1/2 of my loaded potato home. Definitely recommend the Mac and cheese as well. We are looking forward to going back for dinner and music.
Absolutely the best BBQ I’ve had so far. These folks do it right!! They make you feel welcome and they don’t skimp on their portions of food. The owner seems to try and talk to everyone and gives a handshake and smile. Definitely recommend this place.
Such a cool place! Wonderful, friendly owner and team! Perfect for our families occasion! Live Music was great, bar drinks were ice cold, and outdoor fun was such a neat touch! Thank you Masseys!
Wonderful meal! The portions are large enough to split! Meat melts in your mouth!
Tried Masseys for the first time. Services was exceptionally friendly. Ordered take out. Ribs fell off the bone. Would've loved to dine in because the environment looked so fun!
Wow, great experience from start to finish. Mr. Massey was in an so warmly greeted us, brought me a to-go box and wished us a great day. Food was fresh & hit the spot! My husband and I will be back for sure. I really appreciate the warm atmosphere as well.
Lunch was catered for my school district. The meats were tender and the sides tasty. The atmosphere was communally comfortable with a large enclosed space with windows open to the fresh air. Love that the place has space for outdoor games!
Went to Massey's for the first time with my fiance not gonna lie we ordered way more than we could eat but the prices were great and the food was phenomenal. Definitely gonna come back this was our order a little of everything: smoked mac cheese, large queso add brisket, ¼ smoked bologna, Massey burger no onion add cheese, garlic parm boneless wings, frito pie 1 meat pulled pork, 1 strwbrry marg, 1 wtrmln marg. Did not think of doing a before shot as everything just looked so good couldn't controll ourselves. The staff was very helpful and even brought us some black eyed peas to ring in the new year. Overall the atmosphere was amazing and recommend Massey's to everyone local or otherwise.
This is a great place to enjoy some awesome BBQ in Glen Rose and great service too!
We got Thanksgiving dinner catered and the whole family was extremely impressed. The portions on the meat were very generous and I can't get over how good the green beans are. The owner even called me today to check in on the experience. Best customer service I've ever experienced. I'll definitely be back.
Nice comfortable family friendly BBQ place. We come to Glen Rose often and have always gone to Hammond's. They were closed so we tried Massey's. I am glad we did. The BBQ was very good, the spice on the fried okra was amazing. We left feeling happy about our choice. So happy we are going back for dinner...
A large group of friends gathered to eat today. My food was very good. I had ribs and mac and cheese. I heard others comment on the food saying it was good. I saw some huge onion rings being served. Thank you.
Great BBQ! For a “soft opening” this was enjoyable and up to “Massey standards” imo. The facts that the line was wrapped around the entrance and food delivery was stacked up, are testaments to the expectations and we were not disappointed! Great venue with cool music venue. BYOB makes it even more fun. “Massey-ive” quantities of food for our 4 different orders. Fwiw, Apple Maps not yet updated so use Google Maps 😆. Best 3 words of endorsement - “I’ll be back!”
On vacation and craving bbq! Stopped in here and we were immediately greeted by Mr. Massey! He explained the menu and made some recommendations! We got ribs, brisket taco, onion rings, Mac and cheese, wings… everything was SO good!!! The ribs just fell right off the bone! Our youngest son said “this is phenomenal!” 🙌🏻 great service, awesome atmosphere! Truly impressed. Go see for yourself!
All good, service and atmosphere were great. It was nice and cool when the temp outside was 99 or above. One point I would like to share as a new person to this establishment. Driving at the posted speed trying to find thisBBQ place we could not easily read the sign near the road. The arc shaped name was extremely hard to read, the signage on the front of the bld was not readable at all due to posted speed we were traveling and the name/word divided between windows. Therefore we did not think our GPS was correct. We are tired from driving from Tulsa, OK all day and found this place accidentally after we turned around. I realize things cost money and changes might not be reasonable. Perhaps more info online about how to find the location would help travelers. 👍 Food delicious!!
Wow! From the outside, it looks cool. On the inside, we were greeted at the menu board by Mr. Massey. Everyone was freindly. The food is outstanding. We ordered the Super Loaded Baked Potato with two meat, we wanted to sample. So we ordered the mac' n cheese and fried okra. The pulled pork and the chopped brisket was great. This is a redo for sure. Thank you!
Jersey girl here- can confirm that southern hospitality is alive and well! The staff was so very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was sparkling clean and the food……OMG the food….I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get that caliber of BBQ anywhere at home. Thanks for the incredible meal and fabulous service!!!!
Easily one of the top bbq spots I have tried in Texas! Everything came out amazing. The fries and onion rings were seasoned perfectly and I never had fries in a texture that was so amazing and paired very well with their ranch. Honestly blown away this spot doesn’t have a line through the door. The brisket was perfect moisture without being too fatty and paired with the spicy bbq was delicious! We all devoured our food with nothing left. The prices were great for the portion size and cheaper than other bbq spots. Lots of seating area inside and endless choices to order. Also would love to shoutout the friendly workers and owner of this restaurant! They gave recommendations on what to order and checked in multiple times that our food came out the way we liked. You really don’t see businesses like this in Austin where we live. Overall a must try if you’re passing through Glen Rose!
Meet Mr Massey, super nice, and all of his employees were super nice and very helpful. He calls you family, and you really felted like his family. If you are really looking for the Best BBQ this is the place , no doubt this is the best. Everything is so good. They use oak wood to smoke their meats. The best not over powering smoke taste. The pinto beans down to the fries were so good. The size of chopped brisket sandwich was amazing. You get what you pay for sure ,a lot. Even ran into a great friend there, too. So go give them a try , you will love it as much as we did.
Expect to pay for everything separately quite expensive at that and it automatically gives 20% tip even if you're doing it to go. Food taste good, meat is tender. A little expensive but I'll keep coming back for the good food. Also they had live music and you don't get that everywhere. Looks like they're having trade days or a flea market type thing in the back occasionally.
I went yesterday for the first time, amazing! Such a nice hide away with fantastic service and food. Jeff Burns was playing while I was there, it was a great addition to an outstanding place. I had the brisket and onion rings, the onion rings are the best I have ever had: large coated perfectly and perfectly served. I loved the brisket, and ordered a quarter pound, I couldn't eat it all, I brought some home for more deliciousness.
Such a great experience and food! Toi provided excellent customer service and great food suggestions. Absolutely will come again and recommend this place to everyone back home in New Mexico. Toi thank you for your great attitude and service!!! You made our day!!
My family and I are in Glen Rose, taking our boys to the Dinosaur attractions in town. After hopping on YELP and seeing the many positive reviews, my wife and I decided to give them a chance. From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we knew that we had made the right decision. A lady (one of the owners?) met us at the door to explain their menu and what to expect while dining with them. She was super sweet and so helpful. As we were standing at the menu (trying to help our boys figure out what they wanted from the many selections), the owner came to introduce himself. He was very personal and inviting, making us feel right at home. My wife and youngest had the brisket baked potato, my oldest had the brisket sandwich and onion rings, and I had the loaded nachos. The food was outstanding. The only critique, however minor it is, is that the onion rings were a little too thick and not cooked enough for our liking. But, understand, that is *extremely* minor compared to the succulent food they served. Afterwards, we went out to enjoy the live music on the patio. Serious plug here: everything is family-friendly. So many places offer live music, but I wouldn't dare take my 10- and 8-year-old sons to those experiences. Here, everything was done so tactfully and with the family unit in mind. If you find yourself in Glen Rose for whatever reason, do not hesitate to go here. You won't regret it!
Went here for dinner with the family and it was wonderful. The hospitality was wonderful and the food was truly Texas smoked brisket. It was tender and full of flavor.
My wife n I have been going to Massey's since it opened. The food has always been exceptional, tonight was no different. The brisket was firm and moist, the pulled pork was perfect and the BBQ sauces are on point. This is the first BBQ I have truly loved in 15 yrs. The staff is over the top pleasant and the owner greets every customer personally. The price is very reasonable for BBQ. The atmosphere is inviting with an out door area for large gatherings and music. Ignore the negative reviews about this place. They couldn't be farther from facts. Go check them out. 10 out of 10 recommend.
First time here! Greeted by Mister man himself! Which I thought was very nice as hardly no other business owner does that! He explained menu, had a few chuckles too! :) Food was great! Onion rings…wow! Love me some onion rings! Prices are not outrageous as some reviewers wrote. If back in the area I would stop back in for sure.
I’ve driven by this place dozens of times and finally stopped in last weekend. Try disappointing……that I didn’t stop in sooner. The staff is super friendly and inviting. And even more important, the BBQ is LEGIT! We had burnt ends, ribs, turkey, fries and onion rings. The price was not nearly as bad as I thought. Not nearly what other places charge for less both in quantity and quality. We stuffed ourselves and still had some leftovers for lunch the next day. Every bite was absolutely phenomenal. Looks like I’ve found my new local BBQ spot.
We had a family reunion in Glen Rose. The owner helped us with reserving space for our whole group to sit together and personally welcomed us when we arrived. The atmosphere was wonderful with live music later in the evening. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The best part was the delicious BBQ with options for the whole family. Thank you to the amazing crew and owner at Massey’s for the friendly Texas welcome!
Incredible service. Very personable. The food was very good, but very pricey. I paid $18 for a small portion of brisket, a side of coleslaw, and a fountain drink. Super clean. Plenty of seating. Beutiful location. Extremely nice and helpful staff.
Service here was wonderful. Atmosphere was A+. The owner was here and he was so friendly. Seems like a great place for parties and events. The ribs were absolutely amazing! We will definitely be back!
Ribs went amazing with their BBQ sauce, burnt ends were fatty but good, onion rings with their ranch was very good, and brisket was amazing. Menu system was a bit inconvenient but the food made up for it. Definitely need to check this place out if you haven’t.
WOW this place is wonderful. The hospitality is over the top they make you feel like you’re eating at a friends house or family. The food was wonderful best brisket I’ve ever had the french fries are hand cut in. The onion rings are freshly made. Everything is fresh, homemade and ready for you to enjoy if you don’t stop here or try it out yourself. You’re missing out on some good Texas, barbecue and, the owner himself was there when we went today and he was just as kind and made me feel like we were Valued customers hard to find that in today’s market thank you so much Mr. Massey for the incredible barbecue, the hospitality and you can Without a doubt will be back probably tomorrow the damn food, so good I’m already craving it as I’m writing this review you got me hooked. Thank you for opening Restaurant with a venue, an area for the kids to play and live music on certain days I’m so glad you chose Glen Rose, Texas ❤️✔️👏🫶🏻
Went to Massey’s Glen Rose today for dinner. My husband ordered chopped brisket, turkey, and bologna with a side of mac and cheese. I had the loaded nachos with pulled pork. Overall we thought everything tasted good. The turkey was our favorite, not dry with good flavor. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The owner, Todd, was there greeting everyone and shaking hands. The Glen Rose hospitality that made me fall in love with this little town. We will definitely be going back again in the future.
We went on Tuesday of this week and enjoyed it so much that we came back less than a week later!! The food is delicious and is a perfect BBQ. The only other place that we have enjoyed this much was the BBQ on the Brazos that is up in the Cresson Sunoco gas station. Massey’s BBQ is a great place to bring family and friends. Just know that everything is A La Carte. Make sure you get the onion rings they were fantastic. The service was also wonderful. Everyone was very polite and helpful and great at describing everything.
Love this place. Mr. Massey showed us the menu and made suggestions. The stuffed potato is very filling and sandwiches are large. All we had was as good as we've found in this area. Plenty of room for large groups with multiple dining areas. They even have pickleball courts for $20 per hour. Come and enjoy!
This is a classic Texas BBQ restaurant. The inside is spacious and has multiple dining areas and big windows. I had pork ribs and a side of mac and cheese for my daughter, and my husband ordered loaded fries with pull pork. We enjoyed our food. Ribs were big and juicy, not dry at all. The bbq sauce is thick and sweet. I don't really enjoy vinagry flavor on bbq sauce. The side portions are fair, not too small but not big. Staff is frently and constantly check on their guess. we got our food relatively fast. Overall, it was a nice dining experience, and I will definitely be back.
Our experience in this restaurant was amazing!!!! Very friendly staff and very delicious food. We were in the outdoor area and the live music was a bonus.
Owner met us at the door and gave us a Texas greeting. A must stop for anyone in the area looking for home cooked good BBQ
After golf lunch. Everything was great. One of the blonde hair ladies was very helpful. I assume she was the manager. We enjoyed everything and super quick. Highly recommend.
Great BBQ! We were greeted by Mr. Massey at the door. He explained the Menu and restaurant. I had sliced brisket, Jalapeño Sausage, beans and onion rings. Everything was delicious. The Onion Rings were hand made. Beans were very tasty with a little spice. The meat was tender and nicely smoked. The staff was friendly, restaurant was very clean.
We went to Massey's BBQ based on the recommendation of Brazos Outdoor Center. Wow, wow, wow! From the corn on the cob swimming in butter, to the ribs, to the brisket, everything was delicious 😋. The ribs were done to perfection. A beautiful crust and juicy fall of the bone meat. An incredible combo. And their service was nice...they actually came to check on us at our table. Thanks for such a wonderful meal! Will definitely be back when we come back to canoe/kayak the river again.

So as we were visiting around town, everyone seemed to be excited about the new barbecue place in town. Masseys is new to the area- also having locations in (Cleburne and Alvarado) so we gave it a try! Super friendly service! Good selection, plenty of seating, cute restaurant. The meat is all smoked with oak and a dry rub. I prefer the dry rub was excited to try this. Ribs were fall off the bone tender! Love the regular sauce, but mind you I like sweet barbecue sauce. Mac and cheese was good but the noodles were over done in my opinion. That is my only negative for this one! Great family atmosphere, and plenty of parking. The only thing that would make this place better for most is sale of beer with your barbecue.
First, you should know that the company website shows menu items differently from the actual Glen Rose menu. In Glen Rose there is no cole slaw, no combo plates for sandwiches other than burgers, and no bar yet. A staff person didn't explain this was due to surviving menu differences... just blew it off. Other than that, staff was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean and open. Great for larger families and kids. Excellent iced tea. Chopped beef sandwich was generous and priced fairly. Sauce was great (but sweet in case that's not your jam). Mac and cheese was a 4, potatoes salad okay. The togo side portions were really small, especially for the price. A size between this and the large would be nice. As for the sliced brisket, I would agree most of it was very dry and tough, needing a knife even. Seemed overdone. Slices were chopped into shorter pieces, looking like a snack. The sauce helped, but as mentioned the meat should stand on its own. On the bright side, the moist cuts, especially with bark, were very very tasty. Easily a 5. Worth a trip and will be back.
Their prices are high, their side dishes are just meh! Meats are good.
I didn't even know that a new BBQ joint had opened in Glen Rose until I happened to pass by Masseys over a month ago and I had to wait over a month before I could try it out due to a medical procedure. Here's my thoughts on the place. Service: 5 stars As soon as I walked in, a pleasant young lady pretty much gave me a guided tour of the main dining room, the menu, and how to order. Ordering: was as easy as any place I have ever eaten and my food, 1/4 lb each of jalapeño sausage, turkey, and sliced brisket with beans and potato-salad and their spicy BBQ sauce on the side was on my table within 5 minutes. The smoked Turkey is some of the best I've had in decades in a commercial environment. The brisket was a little dry but had a good smoked flavor and was so tender, I was having trouble spearing it with my fork because it kept breaking apart, the brisket was a bit bland compared to what I normally smoke myself, but I will order it again. The jalapeño sausage was very bland to my taste, and was most useful to dip into their spicy BBQ sauce. The potato salad was a waste of potatoes and mayonnaise in my opinion, it had no other veggies like celery, green bell peppers, or onions, and no diced hard-boiled eggs that I noticed. I won't be ordering it again. The pinto beans were an equal to the potato salad. While they weren't the worst I have ever had, it's highly unlikely that I will order them again. Cleanliness: the place was spotless. Atmosphere: the architecture of the building both inside and outside is very interesting and comfortable. When I 1st saw the bldg in my peripheral vision driving by it, I thought it was some type of feed store for livestock from the exterior. Plenty of parking is also available. The thing that irked me the most was the lack of any sliced onion, pickles, or whole pickled jalapenos that I've been accustomed to receiving at most BBQ joints throughout my life and travels when those things were just the "trimmings" Overall, I will be a fairly regular repeat customer despite the critical parts of this review.
I enjoyed the food. I had a sliced brisket and sausage sandwich and onion rings. Washed it down with some sweet tea and had banana pudding for dessert. I was pleased and super full. I was in town visiting family and was craving BBQ. I will most definitely be returning to this delicious spot.
Went here recently. BBQ is the "sauce it yourself" type, with meat served tender. Had the pulled pork and brisket with onion rings. Brisket was more flavorful than the pork standing alone. Sauce was good and a good help for the pork. Mr. Massey was there welcoming people and service was excellent. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Take time to scan the entire menu. Lots of stuff on there to consider and to my old eyes, the design can hide things, like the regular sides. FOX News plays on the TV for those that care about such things.

Not the best BBQ I’ve ever had but, certainly not the worst. 6 different employees checked on us. Sides were not homemade (tasted store bought). Brisket was a little tough & the sausage could’ve been done a little more. Sweet tea tasted watered down. They just opened yesterday so, I’d probably give them a second chance in a month or two.
I have been there twice, both times around 2pm. The building is very nice and unusual. I had high hopes for the food but have been a little disappointed both times. The first time I had ribs and sliced beef and French fries. The beef was average and a little dry and the ribs were average. The meats were warm and the French fries were cold and the bbq sauce is served cold and is also just average. Today I had sliced brisket and it was cold and dry. Had the onion rings which would have been delicious if they had been hot but they were at best warm. I will try one more visit before giving up on them but food will have to improve for it to become a regular stop for me or a place I will recommend to my friends.
My wife enjoyed chopped brisket on spud. The homemade onion rings were good. But, the pork ribs were very disappointing. No smoke worth mentioning. The ribs were probably boiled and baked in a smoke oven. No great color; no great smoke taste. Sorry, but this isn't BBQ. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO TRUE SMOKED MEATS? Service... after a 30-minute wait, we inquired about our order. The staff apologized. Seems only 4 staff members were in the kitchen. Understandable, but to make a customer wait over 30 minutes to eat is not right. Atmosphere. A plus. There was a variety of venues to sit. We chose an open covered area, which was nice. If you check our other reviews, you will see consistent 4+ review ratings. But, this joint was very bad. Okay, cheap BBQ sauce meat. But very little smoke.
The sliced brisket was decent, but the presentation leaves much to be desired. They do not use plates. All food is sold ala carte and served in little paper baskets, making it difficult to cut up meat. No discounts when ordering full meal. The banana pudding was $2 per oz, and made with dark overripe bananas. The bananas were so dark my wife thought they were chocolate. The chopped sandwich was decent. We met the owner and he seemed nice, but the service was more like a food truck than a restaurant.
The service was great and friendly. The place was very clean, I can't argue that. However, the food needs more quality control. The okra was over fried, and you could taste the overheated oil. The brisket was dry, and the bark lacks flavor. The ribs were tasteful but also lacked flavor and bark consistency. The jalapeño sausage seemed dry, and the carryover heat reduced its flavor inside. Last but not least, the sweet tea is stored in plastic 5 gallon containers, and I could taste the plastic or well-water. Three packets of lemon could not defeat or hide the lingering taste.
The loaded potatoes, fried pickle, fries, Mac and cheese and tips were ever good. To be honest, the brisket was horrible. It was dry as if it had been out for hours. The ribs were meh and also quite dry. I was quite disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend.
The food was not so good. Served to us cold and really had no flavor. I went in thinking the barbecue would be different. You do get good portions, and everyone is extremely kind. The atmosphere is amazing, and the owner is top-notch, a really sweet man. The food is just not that good. It's not bad, but if you want real good barbecue, this is not the place to go. Maybe we will try it again in a few months to see if they got all the kinks worked out. We gave it another try and was not pleased. i got the street tacos with brisket. The brisket was so dry I think I drank 3 sprites to help wash it down didnt even finish my meal because i couldnt eat it. The beans tatsed like ranch style beans with the sauce washed off.. The green sauce they have was not good at all it was really smokey tasting with no spice. The tortillas tasted very old. The cilantro was old, and the onions were old tasting as well. It was served very cold. My husband got baked potato with sliced brisket. Brisket was so thick and tough and really dry it was super hard to eat. The potatoe was good, he said. We were hoping that it would have gotten better, but it did not. I'm really disappointed.
Update: we went back a second time and it wasnt as good. The ribs were sparse and somewhat dry and the sliced beef was not as good. The service isnt as friendly as the first time. ********** Went there a few days ago, and the outside is really attractive. They clearly put a lot into this place. The service was very good, the employees are well trained. Our food came out quickly. We chose to sit in the large room our back since it was a nice day. This place has two pickleball courts and a basketball court. There's a stage inside the huge dining area, great for gatherings like a reunion or band. A youth outing would be awesome here. There are heaters in there for when it gets cooler, too. The husband had the ribs, and I had a sliced beef sandwich. I forgot the camera until I had ¾ of it gone Good place!
Have to say I was disappointed. This place was highly recommended. First - very friendly staff& really cool atmosphere. Plenty of seating with tvs indoor & out. However, I ordered the brisket tacos & smoked Mac & cheese. The m&c was fine. The brisket tacos were very dry. If it wasn’t for the bbq sauce- I would not have eaten them. So I can recommend this place - but that’s only my opinion.

Massey's has wonderful customer service and a really cool atmosphere, the food was decent but wasn't anything spectacular. The absolute best thing about this place was their sweet tea. Maybe the best sweet tea in Texas, minus my wife. And the dessert was always really good. Again, the people were great and the atmosphere was cool but the food was aight.
I have stopped here a couple times and the food is excellent but today the service was basically non existent. It took 3 minutes for anybody to arrive at the counter to ring me up and I proceeded to wait for my Togo order for 30 minutes before finding out the order was placed in the hot box for pick up 20 minutes before as I was ignored. What should have been a quick in and out was a 30 minute wait. When they found that the issue had occurred there was no sense of urgency to bag it up, no apology for my food getting cold while it sat there ( onion rings are always best when eaten immediately) and when I expressed my displeasure at it being served to me as it sat cooling for 20 minutes the waitress just shrugged and said I dunno what happened. Both were there when I placed my order. Normally the waitstaff bring out the food show you before bagging it up and are always friendly but not tonight. The response of the staff has definitely soured my opinion of this place. The food is good but I stop in generally on my way home and if is going to create a delay and staff aren't going to care when they inconvenience people I may not go back because the food and price isn't worth the hassle I went through tonight. Hopefully this is an anomaly but my time is worth more to me to want to continue to try them.

I don’t normally write reviews. But the fact I spent $81 on the 2Ib meat and 2 sides small family deal. And when I opened the bag at home it seemed like nothing was weighed properly. Is half a pound of ribs really only 3 ribs? The Mac n cheese was basically the boxed Mac you make at home. If I’m gonna spend $81 included the $12 tip I gave. Then I believe they should weigh the food accurately and put more of an effort into the food. Atmosphere is great. The girl at the register who took my order was nice. Massey himself is very respectful. My only issue is the food and the inaccurate weighing. I’d like to get my moneys worth. I’d be willing to try them again in the future if they make a comeback.
Let me start with we were very excited to see this place come together!! This is a really cool looking venue, with silos and a music stage/barn in the back. Super cool rustic venue!! Cashiers are very friendly. Past that, the follow up mediocre, the food not great and the wait time terrible! This was our 2nd visit. We had BBQ the first time and a hamburger w/fries the 2nd time. We will not be back as both experiences were less than acceptable. Our first visit having BBQ, wasn’t the expectation we were looking for. It’s OK, but not great. We had one 3-meat plate with sliced brisket, smoked sausage and ribs w/onion rings. The brisket was on the dry side, the sausage was room temperature and 1 rib(med-small) the onion rings were t cooked enough for our liking. The other plate was sliced brisket with added potato salad and beans. ALL sides are a separate cost. The pricing is WAY too high, especially for the quality and quantity of the food items. Hubs loves banana pudding so he wanted to try it, so we got that to go. Total disappointment as we paid $3.50 for literally a heaping tablespoon and it was disgusting. Our 2nd(and sadly will be our last visit) was to have a burger. We were told it was the best burger around. Well, they must not get around much, because it was gross. Yes it was big, but the texture and flavor of the meat made us gag. It did not taste like “100% real meat” and that flavor🤢. I don’t know what they put in/on the meat, but it had a weird seasoning that was not palatable. We both had tummy distress from what we ate. For the burger experience, we both ordered the burger/fry meals and took our number. $12.95 seemed reasonable for a 1/2 lb burger & fries, however after 25 min they brought only one burger/fry out and asked if anything was missing. Uh, yes… we ordered 2 burgers/fries. They apologized and brought a small paper boat with a a bit of sliced beef for the hubs while he waited. I proceeded to eat my meal and share my fries with the hubs. I gaged on the first bite of the burger and gave the hubs a taste of my burger. We were both like what is that taste?! The texture of the meat was dense and hard. 25 minutes later we have both finished what we wanted to eat of my meal and still had not received his meal. (There were 3 others waiting on their meal as well) We were in the process of asking for a refund on his meal, when they brought his out. He took 3 bites of the burger and ate a few fries and threw the rest away. Yes the staff were courteous and apologetic for the wait time, but even the person that brought the food out said they should never have brought one meal without the other one. We really do want to support local businesses and I usually have good reviews. I am sad that we’ve had 2 not so great experiences. Owners, please reassess your attention to customer experience’s & staff training. Your primary cook can make or break your success. Response to Massey’s question; our 1st visit was on a Friday @5pm w/24-30 customers; our 2nd visit was a Thursday @4:45pm w/only about a dozen customers.
We ordered the Texas Cheese steak and the Loaded fries. The food was bland minus the pulled pork. The staff was welcoming and nice but two items weren't worth $30.
I agree, brisket so dry even fatty(point part. Pork ribs ok but little salty. Spicy bbq sauce is good for me. Sides is ...... but feels like expensive..
Bottom line will always be food. Brisket was dry and flavorless. You could taste smoke only. The BBQ sauce was not good. Maybe it was a bad day but the most prominent parts of any BBQ joint were not good at all. The smoked Mac and cheese had zero smoke. It was an over priced ($4.95) small side of regular Mac and cheese. Now the ribs were decent. Not a ton of flavor but very tender and pulled off bone properly. To the owner, check your sauce. Something was in there and it's ok to season up brisket.
Id like to start out with my wife and I are from Lockhart, TX, so finding exceptional bbq in the Granbury or SW DFW has been a challenge. I've always done my own bbq at home but even more so since moving here in 2019. Masseys in Glen Rose has a good atmosphere and a ton of potential. Im sure the live music is going to be a hit. If you are wanting outstanding smoked/bbq meats and homade sides to treat your family, friends and yourself without all the hard work, find another place. My wife and I will continue our search. For around $50.00 my wife and I shared a smorgous board of below average, old presliced pork ribs and brisket, mediocre slice sausage, and an okay half chicken. The sides of potato salad, pinto beans and mac n cheese were decent and "semi" homade. The pickles, onions and jalapenos were just that and out of a can and the bbq sauce was canned/jarred blah. Our platter feast was delivered minus a smoked meat vehicle of bread. When asked about the missing traditional bbq item, i was informed that it is not served unless you order a sandwich.... Final thoughts: Masseys Glen Rose is better than Hammonds, but if I were looking for mediocre bbq with a fantastic atmosphere, I'd rather head farther south to Loco Coyote! Masseys Glen Rose, shame on you for serving us old, presliced pork ribs and brisket on a Saturday at noon. You would benefit by trying some bbq staples in Lockhart, TX like Terry Blacks for their fabulous brisket, Kruetz's for their extraordinary sausage, Smittys for their delicous pork ribs, and farther south to Luling, TX at City Market BBQ with their homade bbq sauce! My overall rating of 1 to 10 would be a 3.8. It'll make an expensive t__d, like the experence!

My first time ordering from here. For $20 I got 1/2 lb smoked turkey & an individual side of green beans. The turkey was so salty I couldn’t eat it & had to throw it away. I will stick with my usual place, same order which is $4.00 cheaper, lasts 2 days longer & is not so salty I have to trash it.
Sliced Brisket was just one step away from being beef jerky!!! Wasted my monies, the sides were ok. My dogs liked the brisket, not fit for human consumption.
I went here yesterday for the 2nd time. Food is good, but I placed my order. And I told the girl at counter, I wanted Beef full nachos order, with extra sour cream. When I got it, it was loaded fresh fry nachos. I didn't even know they had this. So, I told the girl at the counter, I ordered regular beef nachos. She mumbled something. Then a girl from the back came out, and said....."your order was wrong?" I said yes then she says....the counter girl said you ordered French fry nachos. The friend I was with also knew what I ordered. The girl at the counter didn't want to take responsibility for getting it wrong so she lied, and told the floor manger that's what I ordered. Me or my friend will not be returning to eat here.
The food is horrible tried the place twice the only service you get is the food being brought to your table. You do the rest.
Service was terrible. Lady's in the front were to busy texting and gossiping then paying attention to their customers. I Was missing food and when I told the woman in the front she got snappy im assuming because I interrupted her phone call. The only polite person was a man who came from the kitchen and asked how the food was and I told him and he promised me the next time I came id have a better experience.
I recently dined at Massey’s and was disappointed with several aspects of my meal. First, my meat was pink when I specifically prefer it fully cooked. I understand that some cooks believe food served at a certain temperature is the "correct" way to eat it, but as a paying customer, I expect my meal to be prepared the way I like it. The same applies to the underdone okra—properly cooking food to customer preference should be a priority. Additionally, I find it unreasonable to charge extra to grill onions when onions are already included on a hamburger. With the already high prices, this feels excessive and unnecessary. I hope you take this feedback seriously, as quality food and fair pricing are key to keeping customers satisfied and returning, but because of this I will no the eating here again
Was wondering why every other place in town was packed except Massey’s. Now I know. Won’t be back.
Jalapeño sausage was bland and served cold very slimy texture. Burnt ends weren’t burnt at all, seemed like 4 chunks of fat sliced right off the brisket. Green beans were ok but had hard stalks throughout. Pinto beans had zero flavor. Massey’s Mess (Frito Pie) has no chili just whatever meat you choose. The Philly was lackluster. Draft beers served in plastic mugs 😑 $80 before tip, pretty disappointed overall. Sweet tea was good if you’re into that, but it’s not hard to make that. Food runner took our number after bringing one item out then they couldn’t find our table to serve us for 20mins. Worst jalapeño sausage I’ve ever had. Lastly nothing was served with any BBQ sauce, and I didn’t see any on any tables or near the condiments.
$150 for 7 people on Tuesday night one got just fries and drink, another got a kid meals. The portions were extremely small and I was not a fan of the ala carte only options. We had to go to McDonald's after to get more food as it did not fill us up
Was referred to Massey’s by a friend. When we entered, this was definitely not what I expected. It’s set up to walk up to counter place order and take a number and they bring it out to you in paper containers you get your own plasticware and your own drink. You pay for your meal at the counter when you place your order and they ask for a tip . So why am I being asked for a tip before I’ve received my food and is the tip for them just to walk it out to your table or bring it out to you I’m already paying for the food.! I did, however give tip begrudgingly. Right from the beginning, I already made up my mind I wouldn’t be returning. Food was average to less than average Then to make the visit even worse, which I realize this is not the establishment’s fault I walk out and somebody had backed their dark colored later model equinox into the front of my truck and they drove off no note or anything. When I asked the young lady behind the counter if they could look on the cameras and see if it caught anybody , she said she would, she proceeded to text somebody and told me that she knew everybody pretty much that was there that evening, but never said anymore to me about it come out and looked and walked back inside.. Then the following day when it was daylight, I got a better look at the front of my ranch Hand style bumper, and they did bend one side of the rail. I called and asked if they could view the video again to at least show who walked out of their establishment and went towards the direction of where we was parked . It was only my truck and another vehicle that parked on that side of the parking lot this equinox they call me back to tell me that at that moment their cameras wasn’t working.!!! Sounds to me like possibly they may have known to whom it was that backed up into my pick up truck and damaged my bumper, but didn’t want to tell me!!
I've waited a few days to do this review, I always try to be fair when I review. I do consider my self a BBQ snob #1. I was excited about this restaurant because the BBQ in the granbury Glen Rose area is terrible. The building is great, they did a phenomenal job with this place. The food though misses the mark completely. It's some of the worst food I've ever had. I placed an order for two people to go. The amount of confusion that there was in getting my food was insane. They gave me the wrong order the first time, then I had to wait after talking to the staff multiple times about what my order was. They gave me my order I felt like it was light but kept walking, A gentleman came running to the door with another bag, I commented I figured it wasn't everything. I then got in my truck and started to drive, I saw the same gentlemen outside with another bag and rolled my window down and sure enough it was for me. I got back to work and only received half my order. I called and shared my concerns about this and told them I would be coming back to pick up the rest. I went back to there and they gave me the food that was missing and some dessert and my money back because they felt bad about my order. I was appreciative of that, the pudding was actually pretty good. My review rating of one star is from the food not the service although the service was lacking. The fact that they served me the meat that they served me is embarrassing, I'll attach pictures of some of the driest brisket I've ever had. All our food ended up in the trash because it was so bad. You be the judge and tell me by the color of my brisket if it should've been served. The pork was dry, the turkey was ok. Just overall this food was terrible. I appreciate the money back and the dessert, I will try again to give a fair shot, this food should've never left the kitchen, there's just no way. Just got a burger from here, the amount of salt is insane, picture attached. Way to much seasoning
I really wanted to support Massey's in Glen Rose but we won't be back. The food was so bad and over priced. We left and went to Hammond's for lunch because Massey's brisket was dry and tough....the brisket plate with the baked potato was 14.99 at Hammond's today vs the "1/2lb"🤔 of brisket being $11 at Massey's. There was no comparison. Plus we waited at least a half hour for our food at Massey's and wound up having to ask staff where our orders were. The loaded fries were 12.95, came out in a tiny, soggy paper container, covered in queso and chunks of tomatoes. Those got sent back. The brisket we put in a to go container and left, threw the brisket in the trash at home as it wasn't edible. So disappointed. Quality of food (or lack there of) price of food and presentation are not "kinks" to be worked out.
