Stopped here picking up our grandchildren for Spring Break, party of 7. Everyone’s food was fresh, hot and delicious. Great portions. Friendly and prompt service. The Skye Sandwich with tots, Patty Melt and queso fries, Naughty Burrito, chicken tenders and mashed potatoes, salad, fried biscuits and better than sex cake were in our orders. Good stop outside of Amarillo, easy access of interstate 40 on Route 66.
Best food EVER! All homemade, true homemade. Fantastically friendly staff and owner! My new favorite place!!
One of my favorite places! It's like a second home 🥰 great food and wonderful people
Great surprise in Groom Texas. Friendly folks and great home cooked meals. Mm good! Traveling across to North Carolina.
We had our camper on the truck, easy in and out. Wonderful people and service.
Excellent breakfast! Burritos aren’t huge great too!
Good food. Good people. Breakfast hit the spot, definitely a must stop and not too far off I-40.
Food and service were excellent. We had a group of 10, and we were all very impressed. Very clean.
Best fried biscuits
This place was great. Gonna eat there again tomorrow. Try the fried biscuits!
Friendly service, great prices and delicious food. Tried the Fried Biscuit and it was awesome!!
Best meal of the trip steak fingers and chicken tenders are amazing. Home made mac and mashed potatoes are spot on
Good old diner. Great bread & meat. Loved the cheese toast & omelet Wonderful service Clean establishment 💯🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Place is quite, town is small. Which can bring on skepticism. Yesterday I had the COD fish special. Which I was worried considering there is no sea for hours. Despite my skepticism the fish was fresh, crispy and tender all at the same time. Today I'm trying he Pams Special with a side of biscuits. If a place like this can pull this off I will be thrilled. The small yet unique menu offers comfort with a side of yum!
My husband didn't want to stop in Amarillo to so we stopped in Groom, Tx. A clean place to eat with simple well prepared food. It was hot outside, but so cool and pleasant inside, with a friendly staff. We enjoyed it enough that this will be one of our favorite places going back and forth from Oklahoma to Texas. Thanks for being there Grill, we wish you guys the best.
A great find on US-40! The food was homemade and absolutely delicious. 5 stars for the burgers! Our waitress was delightful as well. Definitely worth a stop 😊
Crissy was welcoming and nice. Food was homemade and a lot better than expected on the road and excellent price. We are from Canada and love travelling by car and we were impressed
Authentic old route 66 diner in Groom.
A must stop! Wow, little place with big food. Friendly people that make you feel right at home. No way could I eat it all! Flavor was unbelievably delicious! A big Minnesota thank you!
Easily the best home cooked meal I have ever had. Fantastic food, wonderful service. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could!
The food was fast, cooked to perfection. The ladies who work there were cheerful and friendly. It was like eating at a friend's house. Take a swing on by off of 40 to the old 66 and check this place out!
Great breakfast Waitress was very nice Portion and price fantastic
Great place to eat. I think it might be a mile or two off I 40 in Groom Tx. Great food and great people. I don't think they are open for dinner but I I know they have breakfast and lunch.
Wonderful food! Sweet people. We took a group of 10 in at tnr last minute during the lunch rush and they did a great job!
Wonderful place to eat. Calm and easy atmosphere. Friendly waitresses. Fair prices.
Great breakfast, Christy was very nice and provided excellent service! Very pleasant surprise driving through Groom!!!!
Great stop on our Route 66 trip on motorcycle. Real american homemade breakfast. Nice and friendly straff and locals. Stay here and eat!
Great all American food restaurant, it would be nice if they were open a little longer than 2pm. Love their food and friendly staff 👍👍👍
Stopped for lunch, on an incredibly windy, last day of March. Pleasant young lady made me feel at home. Good food as well.
Excellent small town restaurant. Would definitely recommend. Staff and patrons alike were very nice.
Very nice, small restaurant. Very friendly staff, good food (chicken fried steak and fried okra), good price.
Very friendly place. Got the Pam special. Was made just right. Kristi the server was efficient and pleasant. I could tell it was a favorite of the locals!
Very good food . Very friendly staff . We will be back to eat there again. And they have room for 2 or 3 semi trucks .
Love coming here for breakfast. Great food and staff is so friendly. Makes it worth the drive from Amarillo.
Breakfast doesn’t get any better. The way you order it. The way you like it.
Stopped here for breakfast during my road trip. Excellent food, excellent service. Very small town feel. Worth the stop - so easy to get to off the highway.
Christie was our server and as usuall she was outstanding!! We stop here once a year on our way to Tulsa and she remembers us every time. Thank you Ms. Christie! Howard and Barbara Rostad
What an awesome Google find while traveling-not far off i40!! The food was EXCELLENT!! (Chicken Fried Steak and white gravy, also, Hamburger Steak with mushrooms and onions with brown gravy. The fried sugar biscuits were YUMMY!) The service was GREAT and the price was much less than expected!! A true GEM!
6/22/23 Perfect eggs! We ate there after exiting the freeway during the worst fog I've ever seen. Server Chrissie took excellent care of us and we got to visit with Sheriff Terry, a terrific individual, God Bless!
This was the BEST restaurant we have ever eaten at while traveling. The food was AMAZING. The customer service was outstanding...so friendly. We were sad that they close at 2 pm and we missed eating here on our way back home. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place!
This place feel like your at your granny's house eating a good home cooked meal. The people are so nice, also the sweet tea is good and sweet like in the south. If I ever go back through here I'm for sure stopping and eating here again.
had a breakfast burrito and took a fried biscuit for a snack later. both were delicious. wonderful service, clean and homey. thank you for a great meal! I love getting off the beaten path!
Taking I-40 across the country. Just happened upon this place on a Sunday morn for breakfast. Very busy with local folks. So it took awhile to get our food...but very well worth it. Food was delicious. Glad we didn't get impatient.
Friendly, fast and filling. I was passing through and found this gem. My special order breakfast burrito was very Good. The conversation with Chrissy was enlightening to learn there are still towns like this in the US.
Great eats at an authentic small town grill.
I ordered the Wade burger and crispy onion rings. They were delicious! The french dip and tater tots were a bit as well! The service and staff are all very nice and friendly. Highly recommend you stop by The GRILL!
Was driving from Chicago to Los Angeles and came across a very favorable review on Google for this diner. So, I decided to give it a try. It is not too far off the highway and down the beaten path. So, don't be alarmed when Route 66 narrows down and becomes surrounded by farm fields and houses. For a split second I thought I might be eating in someone's kitchen. However a miniscule town does appear just as I'm convinced and I spy the diner. I've arrived at an off dining hour however a healthy spattering of patrons still occupied the place. The server, amazingly pleasant, kind and cheerful yet very prompt, efficient and professional called them all by first name. She immediately recognized me as a newcomer, greeted me as such and offered just the right amount of cheerful help. I had a breakfast type of sandwich for lunch but with breakfast hashbrowns which were so graciously prepared for me after breakfast hours had ended. The meal was excellent and reasonably priced. The menu included homemade soups, sandwiches and dinner plates. Yum. Wish I could have stuck around to try more! So, if you are looking for a bit more charm than Dennys and have an extra just 4 minutes to drive, visit THE GRILL. You'll like it!
This is one of those hidden gems! When you visit the Stations of the Cross just off I-40 in Groom, TX, head there after for some really great food! It has small doorways to the bathrooms that are not very well handicapped accessible but if you don't have to go...it's worth it. I think what I had was the "Wade" burger... mushrooms & cheese were stuffed inside with more cheese & ranch on top! Everything in just the right amounts & my mushrooms didn't fall off!! Awesome!!
Driving through when we decided to get breakfast burritos and coffee for the road. Super nice people and breakfast that hit the spot. Wish we were able to stop to try the rest! Thanks for saving our morning!
Look. Get off I40 and eat at the grill. The chicken fried steak is delicious and the homemade mashed potatoes are the perfect compliment. Get a fried biscuit for dessert (yep, you heard me. It is that good). This place is a gem.
We stopped here on our way to Oklahoma. This is a PERFECT place for excellent home cooking. I got the shrimp meal with grilled vegetables and a salad. The homemade salad dressing and tarter sauce were just one great thing. The grilled vegetables were perfect. My wife got the chimichanga with homemade chips and salsa, and loved everything. The staff is so friendly and make you feel at home. The prices are another huge bargain. If you want a joyful, down home atmosphere, hospitality and great tasting food, this is the place to go.
Excellent place to eat! Both the food and service were wonderful! Our party of 5 tried the chicken tenders, county fried steak, Texas club, steak fingers and the butterfly shrimp. All were average size portions and were all delicious. We would definitely come here again for lunch!
Love this place. Was driving R66 and hit Groom around lunch. Stopped in and was delighted to find a diner that had fantastic food and friendly, welcoming service. Highly recommended@
Talk about Texas hospitality ,the Grill personifies it. My wife and I arrived on a Sunday afternoon more than a half hour after their closing. After returning to our car, the owner having seen me at the door , came to us and graciously offered to make us a REAL ham sandwich with chips. It was the best ham sandwich we've had in a long time. The owner would NOT accept payment ,just suggested we "pay it forward". Folks, I dare you to find a friendlier establishment in these United States and I hope the residents in and around Groom appreciate THE GRILL.
This restaurant is worth its weight in gold as far as the food, the service, and the local customers. It restored my faith in humanity. I wish I had something similar where I live.
Sometimes its hard to get a good breakfast on the road. We feel lucky to have found this place! Also, the waitress made our day sunnier. Thanks! We'll make sure we stop in here again when traveling across the country to and from Arizona.
Hubby and I love this place! The food is great the service is super and the atmosphere is like a "Mayberryish" home town feeling. The prices are very reasonable and if you leave still hungry then something went wrong! If I lived in Groom, TX, I would eat here at least twice a week. We highly recommend the Grill and don't forget to sign the register up by the cash register. They like having folks from out of town.
Just stopped by for lunch with a friend while traveling Route 66. Had the Skye sandwich and it was easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The hospitality and food were top notch. They even recommended we stop by Duro Canyon on our way to Cadillac Ranch. Make sure you stop by The Grill if you find your way out here. Amazing food and friendly faces!
Best food we had so far on our route 66 trip. Amazing staff and everyone is extremely friendly. I highly recommend a stop here and say Thank you! 🤩
Had a lovely home-town-feel experience. Ate a bacon mushroom swiss burger with fries, chicken strips with fries and a side salad, and yummy cherry cobbler. Delicious burger beef and gooey melted cheese. Cobbler was A1!! Larry and Karen and their staff were all a pleasure to interact with
WOW!! This is another gem I found just 40 miles from Amarillo in Groom, TX. Litteraly the best country cooking out there! I visit this family owned establishment every time I'm out that way! The wait staff and service is the best I've ever seen! They treat you like family! They keep bbq sauce and season salt on the table! The atmosphere is AWESOME. I could go on and on about this little slice of heaven. I've experienced their dine in and take out. Great burgers and awesome skin on French fries you've ever had! My mouth is litteraly watering just thinking about it! Too much goodness to list. If you're ever within 5 miles of this place, stop in! I guarantee you'll have an awesome home cooked meal and a great hometown experience!😁!
What a great place for breakfast. Passing through on my way to Florida. You know it's a small southern town when the waitress calls you sweetie. 👍🤠 The omelette was perfect as was the coffee and toast
A fake (building is 1957) but great addition to Route 66 lore. Situated in a small town right on the Mother Road. Specialty grilled entrees. Wonderful onion rings. A true local spot. We showed up around 11:30am, had lunch as local folk came in and took their usual seats. Worth pulling off I-40 for.
Omg the best hands down. The waitress was a hoot. Food is homemade no processed anything here.. can't wait to return!
Excellent stop off of RT 66. I had the steak burrito and my boyfriend had the Larry Sandwich. Both full of flavor and real food! They also accept Bitcoin.
Very nice place. The staff, and food were awesome, and prices.
It's amazing to be here at route 66. We pass by to eat but the restaurant closed until 2pm. Hope someday I can trav like this again and go dine here.

Groom, Texas. Local eatery. Great burgers, friendly service. Not open on Mondays, and closes at 2pm.
Delicious food - fish sandwich was perfect and tried fried okra for first time and glad I did. Service was great and very friendly.
Great local dinner type place in a small town. Traveling through from ATL and stopped for lunch. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. Service quick and with a smile. Very reasonable prices (to us) Highly recommend.
We love this restaurant! Got the House Breakfast and it was hot & cooked perfectly. The waitress was efficient and friendly. This was our second time stopping at The Grill-will definitely be back! Again, & again……
Broke down on my way to California. Happen to be getting my truck fixed and noticed them gem across the street. The food and service is amazing. I'll definitely be stopping here again when I'm coming back through.
Wonderful experience on a 2,000 mi road trip. Server was amazing, maximum friendly and filled my coffee before it got half empty every time. I got the Big Nick breakfast burrito in prep for a 12hr day of driving. It was awesome and I’m a burrito guy. Hella meaty and very flavorful. I wish this place was in San Diego…but then the food would suck and the staff wouldn’t be as friendly. 😂
We stopped here on a cross country trip with our dog. We had planned to get food to go, but there were a few outside tables that we could sit at with our dog. Service was great. Staff was super friendly. Food was good. From what we could tell, it was the best food in the area. The Grill exceeded our expectations by 2 orders of magnitude!
Clean home style diner with excellent food.

Some really good food. Hand made burgers and chicken fried steak. Service is top notch....
Food is always hot, the service is friendly and very helpful. People go because they know they can expect the best.
Stopped for breakfast, had some really tasty food (breakfast sandwiches and burritos). The folks there were very nice, too.
I live wear the grill is located. Amazing food for some lunch after church
One of our favs on Rte 66. Friendly people, good food, fairly priced. Hours and days open can be a little difficult to deal with. Give it a try if your traveling in the panhandle.
(Jul 2015) Took a chance on breakfast and was presently surprised. Great food, especially the "fried biscuit." Excellent service. Friendly staff. Don't pass it up! (Jul 2016) This time met new servers. They were friendly. Food was good (hash browns slightly overdone, as were the fried biscuits). All in all, a nice little place with good food. Just tell them how you like your food cooked, if you're picky (lol).
The food was good. My only complaint was the house salad. There wasn’t much to it, just iceberg lettuce, a bit of tomato, pretty blah. Other than that, it was fine, no complaints, convenient fora quick meal while traveling.
My friends and I enjoy eating at new places, avoiding the big chain restaurants and instead opting for a road trip to a small town establishment. Each of us ordered something different and no one was disappointed. The portion sizes were adequate & the hot food was hot. The waitress/owner was a little stressed due to preparing for a catering event and being shorthanded but was very pleasant to us nonetheless. I'm just sorry we didn't try the dessert. Maybe next time!
This is great little easy to find country restaurant. Locally owned and run. I visited here on a work trip with my wife, even though it’s the only restaurant (other than DQ), and it was full of locals on their lunch break, we were looked after and treated well. I had the steak scraps with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables, my wife had the Wade burger with extra mushrooms and fries. We topped it off with a fried biscuit. The was all VERY YUMMY. Definitely a place worth visiting if you’re in the area.
Pretty good food. Think white people burrito. Wasn't what I expected but was good and the staff was very friendly.
Great little north texas diner style restaurant. Has hitching posts out front to tie up your truck.

Great place for a small town. Food just took long to arrive to the table. Being sat for over an hour and waiting just for food was a bit much. Customer service was on point however.
Steak all sold out - yesterday. Waitress recommended chicken-fried steak. It would have been tasteless had it not been smothered with peppery gravy. Table had BBQ sauce, two kinds of hot sauce, and seasoned salt. Now I know why. Salad was pathetic. Cleanliness was spotty. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Prices not bad.
They don't serve breakfast all day. Even though it doesn't say on the menu or online. The waitress was very nice. She didn't even know if they served breakfast at like 11:30. She had to go ask someone.
Don't stop here if you're a tourist! They served all of the locals before us so 6 sandwiches took an hour to get. Food was good but it blew our schedule completely.
One waitress, 20 min before she came to our table, 10 min to get order, and drinks, another 30 to bring food to table. Seems all other customers were regulars, so they got better service.
Probably a good place for "locals". Checked reviews, drove about two miles off of I-40 for a quick lunch. We ordered off of the menu, no special requests, 45 minute wait for our food. While we waited, customers actually came in ordered, ate, and left.
My wife and I were traveling across the country from California, moving to Georgia. We skipped the Cracker Barrel because it was too busy to get a table. Big mistake! We kept seeing signs on the road for The Grill. We finally arrived at the off ramp and found the little restaurant nestled in a small farming community. We walked in and waited to be greeted for about 5 minutes. The waitress was very short with us. We noticed that she seemed to know everyone else in the restaurant by name. Others came in after us, whom she knew and received great service. Long story short, we waited longer than everyone else for our food, and it was quite obvious that we were not wanted there. Perhaps because we stuck out like sore thumbs, but we certainly did not expect this treatment. I was wearing sandals, shorts and a short sleeve shirt. Our California plates were unmistakable in the window. It was so obvious that we were being singled out, I felt the need to say something. Not what we expected from the wonderful people of Texas. Hopefully the owners read this review, and I wish The Grill the best of luck.
I've never felt so uncomfortable in a place as I did after entering this establishment, I'm grateful that I have my LTC because honestly that's how uncomfortable it was sitting in this place.... older white man brought me and my guys our drinks we said thank you he looked at us and walked away and the waitress wasn't any better and then all the older folks staring at us the whole time we were there was ridiculous and the food was as bad as the service was, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, just drive another 1/4 of a mile west to the 66 cactus ranch it's much better and the owners make you feel right at home!!
My husband just are there today. Said it is the worst food he ever ate. Ordered Country fried steak. Like chewing on a rubber tire. Gravy was nasty and the meal was over priced. Couldn't eat it. Service was terrible. You can feed this guy anything. If he complains, you know it is terrible. Hopefully this stops people on the road from terrible meals and service.
We left Amarillo and found this restaurant on the map. It sounded like a plan for Sunday breakfast and maps said it was open till 2. Exited the highway and drove there to find them closed with a hours sign on the door saying they are open on Tues thru Sun 7 to 2. So if you want to eat there, I would call and make sure they are open.
