Great tacos and really lovely service at an affordable price. The space itself is really gorgeous and the staff was attentive and kind. Loved the food, especially their guacamole- it was citrusy, chunky, and packing a good punch. Loved the vegetarian options, though choices were a bit limited. The nopales con frijoles taco was great. Definitely would go back!

Popped in to pick up an item from someone and didn’t want to drink or eat a large meal so I got dessert. The tres leches seemed appealing and it was! Really nice portion and it was light and satisfying. Always passed by Chavelas and would like to visit again for their other items

Great neighborhood gem! I’ve visited here a few times for happy hour and the margaritas are strong. The food is really good and the overall ambiance is beautifully rustic. The decor feeds into the vibe which I really enjoyed. Some favorites were the steak and pork tacos, esquite and choco-flan! Amazing!

Everything I've tried was delicious. Guacamole was very tasty. My drinks were refreshing and outstanding. Service was absolutely AMAZING !!!! Out server was nice and professional. We felt like special guests there. I will definitely come back.

Came to for a girls day with my friends and toddler. I was a little nervous at first, but the staff went above and beyond. The drinks were amazing and so was the food. We have not designated this "our spot" which means we will be back very soon. We look forward to trying new items on the menu.

Oh talk about staples in the neighborhood, Chavelas is definitely one of them. A great place for brunch, lunch or dinner they have been serving great Mexican Food from their corner on Franklin for years now. I had the pleasure to dine in for lunch recently. Our server (Oscar I believe) was incredible. Knew the menu in and out and provided impeccable service. The staff overall were kind and made you feel welcomed. The food was good as usual. Chilaquiles, smoked ribeye quesadillas and a few other items were order. The smoked Ribeye Quesadilla was a major hit! Keep that as a staple guys. If you happen to be around the Brooklyn museum and looking for a place with great value, go support Chavelas Apologies! Food was so good couldn't take pics!

A nice elevated Mexican neighborhood restaurant in the crown heights / prospect heights area. As we walked in, this place immediately got a line out the door, it gets packed on the weekends! The food was solid. The Plato don Carne was quite good, the chicken imo was better than the steak. The enchiladas mariscos was okay. The shrimp and crabmeat were good. Salmon was an odd choice for a filling. Mole was standard mole, nothing too insane. The pozole was one of the better pozoles I’ve had. The ceviche was fresh and delicious! Salsas were fine and the guacamole was fresh. Overall, I think I would come back and try some different stuff.

Chavela's is a lovely restaurant which checks many of the boxes. The servers were professional and excellent. The food was quick in coming and tasted amazing. The music in the background was loud enough to hear but not drown conversations. Went on a Sunday around noon, the place was busy but thankfully as a party of two we did not have to wait. I recommend Chavela's.

The trout guacamole is epic! ambiance is cool. I always sit at the bar. Bartenders are great

The staff and service in general is great! The food was average-good Mexican but very expensive. (We had two Plato Dons and mixed fajitas. The guacamole and flan was everyone’s favorite!

If you’re looking for a nice ambiance and a comfortable place to sit, relax, and chat, this restaurant is a good choice. The atmosphere is inviting, making it a pleasant spot for spending time with friends or family. However, if you’re expecting authentic Mexican food as described on their menu and throughout the restaurant, it may not meet those expectations. The dishes are quite far from traditional flavors and preparation. As for the drinks, it’s a bit of a mix, some cocktails are well made and enjoyable, while others could definitely use some improvement in both balance and preparation. Overall, it’s a good place for the vibe and conversation, but not necessarily for an authentic Mexican culinary experience.

Best part of the restaurant is the atmosphere, the negroni was a 10 but the labios rojos is a regular mezcalita, a basic drink just a beautiful presentation. The food was real basic mexican food, because of the fame I was expecting a little more. I give the food a 5. We had chilaquiles, tostadas, huarache, esquites and Plato don. Dont have any of them maybe other plates are better. We also had bread pudding it was a 4. Music was good and our server great!

Corn tortillas were a little dry, flavors a little bland, horchata too sweet. I really liked their red salsa and would recommend trying their salsa trio! Service was just ok as our waitress had an amazingly positive attitude, but the hostess offered one group the bar to wait for their entire group to arrive while she blatantly told me I can’t be seated until my whole party arrives 🤔

I've been here about three times and really liked it but unfortunately the last time I was there (11/15/25) I was given really bad shrimp when I ordered the camarones al chipotle. Been sick since.

I have been a fan of Chavela's for over 10 years. No issues or problems but now that they have changed the menu, I'm writing this review in hopes that they fix the issues. First off, never had a problem with service. Always great, and people are kind. But to my issue, I went recently for brunch bc they have the best bistec con huevo, or I should say "had". They changed the menu to so now this dish uses a red sauce instead of the salsa verde and instead of the chorizo potato hash, they give you a cheese quesadilla. I still ordered it with a size of hash bc I assumed the hash would be the same. I was wrong. First off the quality of the steak has went down. Secondly I ordered medium and it was well done. Now I'm unsure if it was cooked medium or not because it was sitting on top of an obviously burned quesadilla. I mean it was charged. My partner's food was the same. The steak was tough and chewy but we don't waste food so we didn't ask for a remake. They give you only 1 egg and it was probably medium size. The hash was regular hash. When I complained to the waiter he said the menu changed and that hash is gone. NO BRING IT BACK. The brunch was not great at all, our food was overcooked and burnt. The waiter offered us nothing in terms of fixing this issue. He did give us two coupons for 20% off the bar next door but the problem is- my partner and I no longer drink. It was disappointing and they have lot a customer with me.

The food we ordered was disappointing. We love Mexican food & I have made multiple trips to Mexico, but this food was blah. The Huevos Rancheros were inedible, and the tacos also tasted off. The best things were the guacamole & homemade tortilla chips, and the quesadillas, but even these were just okay, not great, just okay. Also, the food was overpriced for the area and what you get. Perhaps this place used to be better, or this was an off day. We’ve eaten much better Mexican food in the East Village, our neighborhood. On our way out we noticed they have a “B” sanitary rating, this may explain part of the problem. The plates & glasses were a bit dirty.
