Picked up a dozen assorted for some friends of ours in the area, but we are no strangers to Hero Diner. They are good! Check them out for yourself!
This a great place for breakfast, coffee and baked goods or late lunch. Friendly service, good food and wonderful assortment of baked goods. Proudly run by a veteran! Try it out! It is by Mexi Wing down town, formally Grandma's Gingerbread. Our Ruben was great, plenty of meat and the tots, fries and onion rings a fried crispy and served hot. Our meals were delicious!
The doughnuts themselves are the real star. HERO’s treats are not the overly sweet, mass-produced kind; they have substance and balance. The cake-style offerings are moist with a slight chew, and the glazes have flavor without being cloying. One standout was the bread pudding doughnut, which managed to toe the line between indulgence and restraint. Even the simpler glazed option carries an earthy richness that makes each bite linger.
Delicious! Let's just start there. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'll give you the reasons why I will definitely return 😁. Based upon my son's Google research, my desire for a good burger, and my craving for a donut/doughnut, we met in the middle at this location. I was coming from Cleveland and he was driving up from Tuscaloosa; one hour on both ends. Of course I made it to the restaurant first and was hungry. He was playing with my emotions by taking his sweet time. I decided to have a donut/doughnut for my troubles 😬😂. They were out of a few selections at the time of order so, I purchased the "OG". The young man at the counter was willing to give me the doughnut/donut free of charge for the inconvenience. I paid because it was our choice to come at such a late hour. I was hungry guys... that doughnut/donut didn't have a chance🤣. By the time I thought of capturing the moment, I'd pretty much swallowed the whole thing...sorry not sorry 😐😁. As I waited, I was able to take in the atmosphere. They have a viewing window where the magic happens. Once my son and his young lady friend arrived we ordered burgers. I totally forgot to take photos but trust me...it was delicious. I'm not a sesame seed fan so I pulled the top layer of the bun off. The staff were awesome. The young man at the counter told me that they had fresh doughnuts/donuts. Numerous staff stopped at the table to check on us and grab unused dishes out of the way. My maple doughnut/donut was DEEE-lish-us (yes I know it's misspelled)!!! It's an hour away but I will definitely return. I was told that they just opened a new location in Montgomery. I lobbied for a shop in T-town. Maybe they'll consider it. In the meantime...go check it out.
Hero was great! We stopped by on a Saturday morning for a quick treat. The store was clean and there was no wait despite being busy. Plenty of food and dessert options. Cookies and Cream Donut: 10/10 Sensational. Soft and sweet. Will be back for this! Maple Sea Salt Donut: 9.5/10 Very soft and good, but it was a touch too sweet for us! Parking: They have their own lot with ample parking!
We travelled to Birmingham from Gainesville, GA to celebrate my sons birthday. We met for breakfast at Hero’s and it did not disappoint! It was a Sunday morning between early and late church services and the place was hopping!! The menu was a little different than a typical breakfast spot which I liked. (I’ve since heard their burgers are fab). The wait to order was minimal and we lucked into a table right away. My granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed the bear claw we ordered to eat while waiting on our breakfast. The coffee was outstanding. I forgot to ask what it was but it was far better than an institutional brand. The self-serve coffee bar had three milk options; half and half, almond and oat milk. I don’t use sweetener but I’m willing to bet they had good choices. The food arrived promptly by a super friendly young man. Everybody’s order was different and yet everybody’s order was spot on correct. I had the Hero Breakfast and picked turkey sausage for my side. The meal was great but the sausage was soooo good. My son and DIL had the French toast and it looked divine. After breakfast we walked across the street to the cutest playground/park and had a lovely time. We actually chatted on our way out with the same friendly young man who brought our food to us. He noticed our car tag was from Hall County, Georgia and that’s where he grew up! He was adorable. The location of Hero’s is easy to get to, we had no trouble finding a place to park and the food and service were outstanding! I highly recommend Hero’s!
I saw a review that said the donuts are a bit sweet. I don’t disagree, BUT they’re amazing! They’re not the sort of thing you’d scarf a dozen of in five minutes of self-loathing. They’re the sort of delicacy that you enjoy as a treat for a big win, or to make yourself just a little happier on a sunny morning! Simply delectable! The staff was amazing - the atmosphere is warm, inviting and professional. Everything you could hope for! I can’t wait to go back and try a burger! Go. Enjoy. Treat yourself!
Cute and cozy place that I really enjoyed visiting! I’ve never been before, but I will definitely be returning. I got the half dozen donuts: glazed, chocolate, pistachio, Will’s favorite, strawberry, and bread pudding. The bread pudding was DENSE, but still really good! My all time favorite was the Will’s favorite. It had buttercream and fresh strawberries in between a cut glazed donut. The donuts here were the perfect cross between fluffy and cakey! The service was really friendly and nice too! I will be coming back!
Perfect for those who can’t decide on sweet or savory breakfast — get the best brioche breakfast sandwich with BEC, then share a specialty donut with someone! Good amount of seating, great coffee, quick service. Cute takeout window for to-go orders outside too! Highly recommend the blueberry crumble donut and any BEC situation on the brioche. Hash browns are shareable and delicious too.
Absolutely amazing. I got the bacon/egg/cheese sandwich with the crack sauce and pepper jam and it is the best sandwich I believe i have ever had!! I got the combo that came with hashbrowns and coffee. Also, very good. And to top it off I had the donut holes which were so delicious!! Friendly staff!
I finally gave this place a try. I must say it was Very Delicious!! Anna took our order, recommending to us the Hero Burger. I chose the double with fries. The burger was very delicious, from the tasty sauce as well as presentation. I loved the fries, as I believed they were seasoned well. Although my brother thought they were a tad salty. I also got the sweet tea, which was excellent!! Although I didn’t have room at the time, I purchased a couple donuts to go. The Blueberry Crumble and Coconut. They tasted wonderfully and seemed of a rather light dough than what I’m used to. Not bad just different. I’ll definitely be returning, to try the other yummy menu options. Come early while the donut selection is fresh. The outside appearance was very welcoming and inside was clean & comforting.
Came to get breakfast for my daughter here like we do every weekend. Today I ordered a Togo order that took 45 minutes to even come out! When I got me Order there was no apology for the wait whatsoever, not to mention I get to the car my order is completely wrong 😑 . I definitely not about to wait another 45 minutes . I walk in explain my order was wrong and asked for a refund . There was no APOLOGY!!! Even when the manager handed me my money back she just said the total amount . No sorry for the inconvenience, nor about the wait or order being incorrect.
Took a whole ordeal to get us our order and when we got home we realized they substituted for 2 other types of donuts without asking or saying anything. They had us loop around the pick up window twice to “not hold up the line” but when I walked inside, the bag had been sitting there ready.
