The experience here was beyond magical. Everything from the quaint sushi bar aesthetic to the food overflowing with textures and flavors to the service that would make any southern restaurant blush. It was all phenomenal. The atmosphere was inviting and welcoming. It kind of reminded me of a Waffle House, in the best way imaginable. The bar feel, watching the cooks/chefs doing their thing. It was amazing. The sushi here was majestic. Every bite was like an explosion of fireworks of flavor, texture, and temperature. The melding of flavors, everything we had, and we had nearly everything, was amazing. Dishes that make you feel like you’re on a beach with a cool morning breeze awaiting the sunrise to hand rolls that give you the embrace of sitting in front of a fireplace in a cozy little cabin. It was truly unreal. Service was top notch, always ready to serve. The people that work here made us feel welcome, as if we have been regulars for years. They made the experience fun, warm, and welcoming. Thank you Handies Douzo. All in all, S+ tier experience, do not pass this place up. Thank me later.
Had a really great dinner here! We tried the maguro and masutoro carpaccio crudos, the 4 hand roll set and added on the hamachi hand roll and a second negitoro hand roll with caviar (highly recommend adding the caviar). Also make sure to get a side of spicy ponzu and chili garlic for dipping your hand rolls! That was a true game changer. I really liked all the hand rolls and loved that the 4 piece set came with a cucumber avocado option. That was a nice break from all the fish rolls. My favorite hand roll was the masu and hamachi with the negitoro with caviar right behind them, but truly all of them were so good This was my first time here and I really loved it. Can’t wait to come back and try more!
Some of the best Japanese food I’ve ever had in my life! Everything was incredibly fresh, and the food is creative and flavorful, with textures that surprise you and explode in your mouth! Adding Caviar in your hand roll makes it even more unique! The crudos is to die!!!!! Try the drinks too, it’s delicious and refreshing to pair with sea food. The staff is very kind and cheerful. Best of all, it’s just two blocks from my house, so I can walk there. It’s my new backyard🫶🏼
Handies douzo never disappoints. The newest location still exceeds the expectations, as the other locations do. Same exceptional service, timely rolls, and lovely experience. This will always be my favorite handrolls spot in Houston and I’ll be a loyal customer for a long time. The entrance is a little confusing when you use google maps to direct.
From the moment you walk in, the experience is nothing short of amazing. The sushi is incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor but what truly sets this place apart is the team ( Jay, Chi and Khoa). Every staff member is welcoming, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. You can feel the positive energy and teamwork throughout the entire restaurant. They go above and beyond to make sure every guest feels taken care of, and it shows in every detail. If you’re looking for top-tier sushi paired with exceptional service, this place is an absolute must. Highly recommend!
This place was delicious! The fish was all very fatty~ and the rolls left you FULL. I honestly am so impressed with how the servers and chefs are able to make sure the customers are all taken care of fast to maintain rotation. I’m not sure if it was the oil or the rolls but it did leave all of us so sick after lunch that we skipped dinner completely.
Oh my goodness. This place came highly recommended by a foodie friend. Best hand rolls in Houston. No joke. Immensely fresh and rich flavor profiles with each hand roll. The service was next level. I had the pleasure of meeting. Linh, Mo, Joshua, and Carlos, all of whom went above and beyond to connect with me and ensure I had an incredible experience. I will most definitely be back.
The quality/freshness of the food is top notch. Very well flavored, great texture, I'm impressed.
Best sushi in town!
Hands down the best place to get handrolls in the Houston area. Every handroll is a flavor bomb and the quality of their sashimi and crudo are 10 out of 10. Awesome vibe and great service are the cherry on top.
Always amazing at all locations
By far our favorite hand roll spot in Houston. The food is amazing and the staff was super friendly. Top tier hand rolls and you can really taste the quality in every bite.
Amazing and fresh sushi!!! Service is great, I just wish they put a little more fish in the rolls and not as much rice, but the flavor is divine, and the freshness cannot be beat!! I am a regular at this great Heights spot!
Excellent food. Long wait despite a reservation but possibly due to being recently opened. Exceptional service. It’s very loud with trendy music. In any case the food makes up for any shortcomings
The staff is so friendly!! The food is amazing and over the top. I highly recommend for everyone in Houston to check Handies out once in your life time. ❤️
Hand rolls are always made fresh and amazing. Services is always 10/10 quick and easy, they always quickly help when needed Food never fails to hit the spot Crudos and hand rolls are top tier!!!!
On a scale of 0/5 stars, this place gets a 10 star rating and two thumbs up.
Delicious hand rolls, quick and friendly service - great to have this option without going inside the loop.
We love it here! Book a reservation and make a friend.
Great sushi, kind staff :)

Amazing service! Amazing food! Will come back soon!
Great spot for handrolls and Sashimi fix!
my go to spot when it comes to hand rolls and crudos 🫶🏻
Extremely friendly staff who are very helpful
Best rolls, crudos and sushi!
Great food!
Damn.
Clean. Fresh. Delicious.
Enjoyed the handroll
Walked over from The Decoy for a late lunch, and I was blown away by the service and food! Han was amazing and took extra time walking me through the menu and making me feel at home. The spicy tuna and kani were my favorite hand rolls and the kanpachi crudo was next level! Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures but will be back soon to get some!
Live in Memorial area, 64 year old who went for lunch on Saturday at my usual sushi place (Nori, which is excellent) was closed for lunch. Put sushi search in google, Handies Douro came up. New restaurant north of I10 with nice sit down counter but no tables. Great ratings. I thought I would give a try. Was surprised counter only.. trendy music… receptionist asked for my phone number as soon as I walked through door - initial response not positive, almost left. Sat down, very brief menu which didn’t make a lot of sense. Asked Barry for his recommendations, he ordered my food. Hand rolls were OUTSTANDING. Food was excellent. Really enjoyed. As a long time Bunker Hill resident it is fun to see new creative restaurants in neighborhood. Kudos to owners and sponsors.
Love having this place in Spring Branch! I’ve been to their Heights location many times and have always enjoyed their hand rolls. Now I don’t have to drive far for amazing rolls and sashimi ❤️
Reservations encouraged. We enjoyed everything we tried, and the servers were very friendly. The spicy tuna and the Hamachi were standouts.
Very very very delicious food and service! I tried a few different rolls and I can’t decide which one was my favorite!!! The service is great, tea is very good! I would totally recommend and totally come back!
You ever hear the name of a place and your mouth just starts salivating? Talk about Pavlov’s effect—that’s what happens to me when I think of Handies. Make a reservation and go. No more to say, just go. All thanks to my lovers rec.
Came here with my partner and we had a reservation. We had the 3 hand roll set. The hand rolls were good but we have a different spot where we usually go to and we would say we prefer theirs more compared to Handies. The quality was good but felt like two of our hand rolls were overpowered by the fried onions by a lot. The taste was the same for both hand rolls and didn’t really taste the fish as much. Inside the restaurant is really nice and the rubber ducks being placed everywhere is so cute! We love the board they have in the middle which constantly changes the message. Staff was really nice and quick. We were able to dine in and out pretty in 30 minutes.
Happy to have Handies in the SB neighborhood. This is off of Westview, near the Decoy. A decent size parking lot and there is also street parking nearby. Recommend to make resy in advance in case it gets busy during rush hour. Like other locations, they have a similar menu and decor. You can choose between the à la carte hand-rolls or just do the fixed set of 3/4/5. The crudo comes in 4 pieces so good if you're sharing. Same with the sashimi. My favorite sashimi was the chutoro and otoro as always. The hotate, maguro, and kanpachi were my faves for the crudo. Would also recommend the negitoro and spicy hotate hand-roll. Can't go wrong with any of the options. Service was friendly and quick. The bar seatings are good if you're in pair or group of 3 but not ideal for a big group since it would be hard to talk to everyone. Overall, a great addition to the neighborhood.
Small place full of energy.
This is a great place to get some had rolls! I highly recommend it if you’re in the mood.
Visited Handies today. I’ve been to a lot of hand roll spots, and compared to others this one felt like it was missing something flavor-wise. The fish was fresh and the atmosphere was great, but the rolls themselves didn’t quite come together for me. The spicy hotate was a bit disappointing; the spicy sauce felt grainy and slightly bitter compared to the creamy spicy mayo style I’m used to. Also wasn’t a big fan of cilantro in a hand roll; in my opinion it’s unnecessary in simple sushi and you don’t really see that in Japan. Still a good spot overall with quality fish and a cool vibe, just fell a little short on flavor compared to other hand roll places I’ve tried.
Small cute restaurant, but definitely try to make reservations or you may have to wait up to 45 minutes like we did. Sushi is great, definitely high caliber meat and exploratory flavors. Definitely a lower caliber than full on chef tasting venues, but worth for the proximity. Can be expensive if you go in hungry.
Great quality, but limited. Spent $80 for two and left hungry. Unlike an izakaya, the menu is very narrow. Expect $50+ per person to actually get full. Top-tier handrolls, but pricey for the portion size
We stopped in for a quick date and were pleasantly surprised. The service was genuinely attentive, the crowd young and lively, and the whole atmosphere had a refreshing simplicity—minimalistic yet inviting. Sometimes less really is more. We left feeling relaxed and impressed, and we’ll definitely be back!
Food is great, but VERY expensive for the portion sizes you get. Over Christmas this restaurant had a promotion on Toast where if you buy $100 worth of gift card, you get a $10 discount promo. This restaurant would not honor the $10 discount, blaming the issue on Toast. I contacted Toast and was told: "Discount codes are fully set up and managed by the restaurant, which means there isn’t anything we’re able to do on our end." Basically, this restaurant and Toast both blamed each other. Neither would help me use my $10 promo. So don't bother with such promotions if they were to return.
It looked good when I drove by. Q: you have resirvation? A: No, just drove by and am hungry. Q: For one is difficult. A: Well, then go bancrupt
Gimmicky place for people who don't care about sushi but want to feel like they are eating fancy sushi at a counter seating for an affordable (but still severely lacking QPR) price. Detailed review: Flavor profiles and technique are extremely confused and sloppy, with the exception of masutoro carpaccio (only reason why the food has 2 stars and not 1) which does taste pretty good. Everything else is muddled with bullshit spice and crunch and garlic - and I'm korean so I do like garlic and spice, it's just terribly inharmonious and misplaced here. Technique wise, they couldn't roll it properly so they had to take it back off the plate MULTIPLE times to "fix" it (they placed it on the plate and just took it back without saying anything). First, why are you serving something of such noticeably poor quality that you'd need to take back almost immediately... Second, these hand rolls they serve are of the form which requires the least skill. The choice of the form itself isn't anything to complain about at this price point, but how do you choose to do it the easy way and still not do it properly? Counter seating at this price range may be an appeal to those who are on a budget, but I don't understand the appeal of it. This isn't a caliber of sushi that would be time-sensitive and actually benefits from the short transfer time, nor is it any interesting to watch them make the food when there is no expertise from the laborers. It's only a gimmick/branding to charge a premium on mediocre food. Also, music is too loud, both the server and I misheard each other (maguro and kanpachi <-> masutoro carpaccio) when ordering. I don't hold this against the server - Service is friendly nonetheless, and the wrong item actually ended up being the only one that tastes good. I don't think that $28 for 5 hand rolls is anything expensive, but considering that I've had hand rolls of much better quality with counter seating at a similar price point in flatiron/nomad (nyc), this isn't a justifiable price. Especially when this area probably costs only like 20% of the rent, based on my experiences living in both. This is definitely catered towards a certain customer base with different priorities/standards than mine. If you are a self-proclaimed pretentious tiktok foodie, or just want a fun night out and feel fancy without breaking the bank, I'd say this place is an attractive option. If you do care about food, there are many better sushi options on Westheimer.
My boyfriend and I came here yesterday and ordered a five set and a four set hand roll as well as 2 kanpachi crudo and everything was fine until we ate the uni hand roll. The uni tasted as if it went bad. While the workers were prepping it, they looked concerned but still served it to us anyways. I had to spit it out due to the taste but my boyfriend ate the other half and he got food poisoning. He has had diarrhea all day today. It’s unacceptable if you are concerned with the quality of raw seafood, please don’t serve it to your customers. Disappointed in this location. Please do a quality check on your uni.
