Tip: Go for happy hour to enjoy half-price food and drinks. The patio is great, especially for watching sports, but can get hot in the summer.

Update: Moonshine Deck reached out to rectify this situation and assured us it wasn’t a normal trivia night experience. I am updating my review to account for all our past experiences (which have been great), as it’s evident by their reaching out that this last experience must have been an outlier. They definitely care about their customer’s experiences, and we are excited to visit again! Used to be an amazing bar, but the DJ/MC is so rude and the service is horrible. Also, don’t bother going to trivia nights - they have the answers wrong and will make fun of you when you try to correct them.
I would say that this place is so nice to go out with the girls and have a fun outing. Brian and Isabella service was awesome. I would recommend getting the minted flame margarita it is so good thank you Brian and Isabella for the recommendation of drinks.
Been coming here for awhile and it’s always a good time. Staff is great as well!
Atmosphere was calm and chill. Had a great time at a company function, and will definitely be back. Staff was attentive, food was delicious, different areas to hang out in.
Love this place. Great happy hour. Music Bingo on Thursday night. Fun to go out.
Great staff and service. The food was great. Drinks are made to order and spot on. We will be back!
Hannah helped me she was awesome great service she is the best bartender and need to be put on day shift
Food, drinks and atmosphere were great, but service was phenomenal! Shoutout Michelle for being so great! Will be returning!
Visited after lunch on a beautiful Saturday with beauty, and we watched a lil college football outside on the covered lounge area . The huge couches outside are comfy and cozy and the awnings are perfect for shade and drinks . We had a couple hurricanes and some custom shot drinks later that were all very well done. Within walking distance to a lot of local entertainment and food choices. Great outdoor vibe we really enjoyed...
Moonshine Deck is an amazing spot for a night out! The outdoor space has a relaxed vibe, perfect for enjoying drinks under the stars. Their drink menu offers a great selection of cocktails and craft beers, and the bartenders are friendly and quick. What really made the night memorable was the DJ — they had the crowd dancing all night with a fantastic mix of music that kept the energy up. The DJ's set was the highlight, blending popular hits with some fun throwbacks. If you're looking for a great atmosphere, delicious drinks, and top-tier music, Moonshine Deck is the place to be!
The establishment served outstanding food and provided exceptional service. I thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. The menu featured an array of delectable, loved the nachos (big enough to feed 8), reasonably priced dishes, a diverse selection of beverages.
Very freely staff but expect to have your ID ready since it seems a lot of college kids go there to pre game. Big selection of local brew. Big screens everywhere and food trucks. I use to go there a lot for steak night! Plenty of packing including cover parking.
I'm not sure if this place is always popping or if it was popping because it was the weekend before Valentine's, but either way, we are going back this weekend! They have great music playing in the background! The outside area is super cute! I can't wait to go back and chill with my friends! We had to go inside for our own drinks. The whole time we were there, only 1 person came by to ask if we needed drinks. But I love how they fo keep your table clean! They come by to pick up the bottles or glasses we were done with. I wish I could have taken pictures! I will definitely take some this weekend and post them later!
Cool vibe. Good drinks. Expensive but expected for that area. The brisket grilled cheese was awesome. Service was great for a busy night.
My gf and I got suggested that this was a nice hangout spot. They were correct but it's better to go when it gets cooler and no mosquitoes. The staff was very friendly. They had a promo of Modelo Oro the day we went. TV's everywhere so you can watch all the games. Only downfall, limited parking.
Really cool layout to this place. The outdoor patio is perfect on the few cool days we have in Texas. Lots of fun outdoor games for the kiddos as well as the big kids too. The service was great, fast and nice (their attire most acceptably modest enough for small kids - given it is an icehouse). We ordered food there from the food truck which was fast and looks to be very clean but… ( kids ballpark grade food for $70 - 2 adults 2 small kids without drinks) so next time we will bring our own food. They allow dogs leased it appears. Still would recommend this place though.
This is one of those fun non-stuffy bar and hangout places in the Heights. Went to Moonshine Deck for a holiday networking event and enjoyed the indoor/ outdoor atmosphere. The bartenders are friendly and don't ignore you when you want to order a drink LOL. The parking was tough and I saw many people walking to parking down the street. There's a corn hole gaming area as well as plenty of outdoor tables that are covered.
I recently moved to Houston from Las Vegas in June of ‘22. When my wife and I moved here, we didn’t know many places around town that had a good sports atmosphere, where it was trendy / lively. When we heard about Moonshine Deck, we decided to give it a shot, and we’re so glad it was the first bar in the heights we visited. It easily became our favorite place for college football, NFL, Astros games, or even trivia. The night the Astros won the series we were in the heights, and the energy felt like we were in Minute Maid watching the game. Even on a busy night, the service was great, everyone was friendly and accommodating to us. Somehow sea of people, they even got our order of food out to us on time. Best bar in the Heights, IMO! Love this place.
The bartenders are pretty cool, fast, and make sure you have what you need. Love that 🤌 The dj added to great ambiance, the set was perfect. Overall fun spot for a group, date night, or a couple of gal pals.
Samantha is absolutely amazing!! I want her every single time, she was prompt and adapted to my pickiness of how I like my drink. I 10/10 recommend her !! Amazing personality and great energy !!
We always have an awesome time at Moonshine! Each year my friends and I host a golf scramble and we've made Moonshine the unofficial "19th hole". This year Michael and his team took great care of us again- from ensuring we had two big booths ready to accommodate our group to keeping the drinks flowing and the vibes up. Great service from these guys. We'll be back next year for sure
Nice bar with ample seating and great vibe. There's some games outside as well as some photo ops. It was pretty clean and bartenders were friendly. Will definitely come back again when in the area. Drinks were good as well. It did get full inside when I went so we had to sit outside but it's still nice out there so we didn't mind.
A really cool new eclectic place to enjoy daily food and drink specials, play games on the patio and team trivia contests. This is the only place, that I know of, that offers a huge selection of drink options on tap, where you can walkup, select, pour & enjoy! The management and waitstaff were exceptional, even on an extremely busy night! You have try this place!
Clean, lively, and music was a the perfect volume to still have a conversation with the person next to you. Huge Island bar. Televisions throughout. Indoor and outdoor space with fun seating arrangements varying from stand up table, table with swings and group size booths. Play a toss game outside. Food truck area easily accessible within the outdoor seating portion of the venue. Valet parking available.
STEAK night is a MUST!!! What a great cut! NY Strip steak medium was awesome. Just a bit disappointed in the viewing. We went to see the CWS and watch LSU, but the TV’s had a major glitch going on! Thank goodness for the iPhone and the YouTube TV app! Veronica was attentive , friendly and fun! Check it out!!
This was a very cool place to enjoy food, drinks and music while catching up with friends. They serve brunch so you can always kick back and enjoy your mimosas on the swing chairs or patio. I recommend this place for everyone 21+ (p.s. the moonshine drinks will have you 💦 TML 😇)
We came on a Friday night before Labor Day and I think that's why the crowd was smaller. Even though the crowd was smaller the place still had a great vibe. There was a DJ there and he was playing all the great hits from the 2000's. The crowd was mixed, young and old. The beer was nice and cold. Lots of TV'S if you wanna catch a game here as well. We didn't get to try any food but they have a pretty good menu with your typical bar food options. Definitely worth checking out if hanging out in the area.
Panda, Mike, and Liam are the best!!!! Customer service top tier (until football comes on) I actually take my whole review back. They need to play music during the games. If we wanted to hear the commentators, we’d stay at home.
2nd bar-stop of the night, our party decided to continue the fun and get a bite to eat. I didn't take any pics of the food, but this is what we ordered. We had the regular spices Buffalo wings, which were excellent, meaty, and tender. Plus, the celery and carrots were crisp. We both had the frozen Mangonadas, delish. I also sampled the pulled pork sliders (fantastic) with the homemade potato chips (perfectly made) and sampled the brisket tacos. All the food was very well made and delicious 😋. We'll be making another trip back here soon. Btw, we were dropped off we didn't drive and I'm glad we didn't parking looked like it was hard even though there's parking lots they seem to fill up quick.
Moonshine deck is an amazing place, their food is excellent. It is a must try. Popular for their happy hour in an amazing casual environment. Cleanliness and staff are top notch. The wings are very flavorful and cooked to a perfect crisp, the are impressed in rich tasteful flavors you’ll soon fall in love with. Fried pickles are mouth watering, you won’t regret, and the rest of the menu is pretty amazing!
We've been in Houston for a little over a year. This was one of the first places we ate at. The giant Jenga was is a blast! Most of the time the food was phenomenal (not every time but hey nobody's perfect.) This time we stayed away for a couple of months, came back and it was great! The food was great, our drinks were great Usually we do the trash can punch. However we tried the Summer Cocktail: Tennessee Peach Tea Light. ( Or something like that). My only complaint about here is that the servers often forget to check the seat yourself tables outside. I'm not talking about when they are busy. Rather usually it's either Saturday mid morning or Sunday morning. This has happened several times unfortunately. We also sit at the tables that are able to be seen from inside.
They offer a great happy hour. We tried the aperol spritz, grand margarita, Moscow mule, brisket nachos, pretzel bites with cheese, and fried pickles. The food was half price off and was delicious. Each dish is shareable. The grand margarita and aperol spritz were eh...not so great. The Moscow mule was delicious. The place has a large indoor seating area and bar with large tvs showing sports. The outdoor area is spacious with swings, tables, and corn hole.
This entire area of bars is a great location. You can have a few drinks or food at each place and walk from bar to bar. They all have their own vibe. This one had a lot of activities outside and a lot of different seating arrangements for a variety of groups. There were even porch swings. We weren't going to order any food but we ended up as an entire group and it was all delicious! I really liked the atmosphere/ decor on the inside. Would definitely recommend and come again!
We went on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. Amazing staff, food, and atmosphere. The staff was amazing let me just say that again. All of the food was stellar. But the patio is where all the fun action is. The DJ was jamming 90s/2000s RnB/Hip Hip. We had a great time and will definitely be back!
Love this place. Great ambiance, service was good. Food is also very good surprisingly. You’ll love the drinks in this place. This place is perfect for sports events, brunch, happy hour and just to chill and hang out with friends. I would highly recommend the brisket nachos, also the boneless wings are awesome!
Loved the atmosphere. Great place to get together with friends and family to unwind, listen to music or catch a game on the big screens. Great selection of beers and beverages. The only drawback was they only had 2 food trucks so if the orders get backed up, it takes a while to get your food. They also have a big sign posted that states no outside food can be brought in but I saw people walking in with Pizza's from outside restaurants so I don't understand that. Overall, I really enjoyed the establishment and will definitely go again.
We decided to check out this place for lunch on Saturday during their soft opening, and we were pretty impressed! First off, there's a decent amount of parking, which is great. The build out is beautiful... Very vibrant, fun and lots of photo ops. Plenty of outdoor seating with turf, fans and typical bar games. The service was good, especially for a staff that's still training. Our server forgot a couple things (like silverware), but she was very nice and apologetic. We got the pretzels and cheese, hot chicken sandwich and brisket quesadilla. The food was decent, but honestly, nothing spectacular. There was also a bit of confusion where they brought us a duplicate order after our food was already brought out. It didn't effect us, so no harm, no foul. We will definitely come back and try their brunch menu once it's available. We didn't drink today, but definitely see potential as a cool place to hang out and grab a couple beers. All around great addition to the neighborhood!
The place is a cool spot to hang out. They're dog friendly and have mini-games you can play. Only tried the brisket nachos and coconut shrimp. The nachos are great and they serve a large portion but I got to say that the coconut shrimp is not worth paying $15 for 6 measly shrimp that are by far jumbo-sized. Can you imagine paying over $2 per "jumbo" shrimp laid on top of a little lettuce? 😄
Food was great, had the BBQ grilled cheese sandwich. Being from out of town outside patio is the best for football, has a huge big screen TV, but it is summer so humidity does make it feel more hot outside. This place seemed like a college hangout so service was good, not the best but we did sit outside closest to the TV.
Ambiance: Trendy & upbeat spot in The Heights with an expansive drink & food menu perfect for celebrating any and all occasions with friends or family. They have several Instagram-worthy backdrops, fun chairs/lounge areas, and music + games. Dog friendly as well! Limited onsite parking - valet and street parking also available. 21+. A bit on the pricey side but worth it for the ambiance and music. Does get crowded on the weekends. Lots of TVs & perfect for watching live sports. There is a pour your own beer wall, although we had a hard time figuring out how to work it. A must visit spot if you're looking for a fun ambiance on a weekend!
Came here on a Saturday with friends and to watch the final four games. Great patios, service, music and vibe. He music is more laid back early in the day, and they seem to have a dj or play a better mix the later it gets (sunset). I'd highly recommend if you're looking to enjoy a nice patio.
Know before you go...they charge $8 for valet or $10 to self park for bar hopping purposes. We came to dine and drink only at Moonshine Deck, it didn't make $ense so we left. It's too bad because we were really looking forward to trying the place out.
Not impressive as a first experience. Waitstaff was mostly inattentive and even seemed peeved (and one downright rude) when we requested additional drinks. Bizarre first experience, there, in terms of service. Bar eats were pretty good. Drinks were priced about average, for the marketplace. The place itself has a pretty cool vibe, although the music selection left a bit to be desired (Sat. afternoon crowd isn't a rap crowd, management.) It's clean, well-lit, with lots of TVs for game day. And there's a nice outside seating area, which I'm sure is terrific on those dozen (or so) opportune days when Houston weather cooperates. Valet parking starts early evening, so get there early. Not quite sure why a place like this resorts to valet parking, anyway. I arrived early enough to not get gouged for valet but my guest wasn't quite so fortunate. (And yes, I mean gouged -- $20 to park at a neighborhood icehouse is some predatory BS. Seriously.) That said, it's a well-lit and seemingly safe and secure place, so there's that.
Update (increase to 3 stars), I had a promising interaction with the management team from Moonshine after I posted this review. I really appreciate the time they took to investigate my concerns. Had I been provided a little more transparency when I was paying my bill I don't think we would have had any issues about the differences in the bill. Our waitress Kii tried to steal from us today by inflating our tab. She added $15 to our tab when checking out without showing an itemized receipt ($75 vs $60). I thought the bill was high so I asked for a receipt. She came back with a new receipt for a lower amount saying that the other transaction didn’t go through. She lied because she cancelled my first payment and I was never provided the original inflated tab. I showed her on my bank app and she had nothing to say. Moral of the story ask for a receipt or get money stolen from you.
This place is great to hang out with friends or family, but the dress code is weird. They won't allow a person in with face or neck tattoos. I don't like that the waitresses have to hold your credit card in the fanny packs until you close out your tab, which they're allowed to run in and out of the bathroom to apply lip gloss from there fanny packs that contain your credit card, not safe!!!!!! Plus, the dj isn't allowed to give birthday shout outs, and the staff watches you like your a theft, and the waitresses are hard to find when you need service. Awesome photo spots to post on social media and cool games, but management needs to really work on the credit card holding thing because there are a lot of scamming going on!!!!
Good food, GREAT service, DJ playing music dance club music that's annoying as hell if you come for a football game. Definitely geared toward a young crowd that likes clubbing.
We sat at the bar around 3pm on Saturday. The place was busy, but not packed like I’ve seen it. It took about 5 mins for our bartender to notice us and the bar top looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for a while (sticky syrup in multiple places.) We ordered the “infamous brisket grilled cheese.” What an appropriate name considering how awful it was. First, it took over 20 mins for it to come out to us, this seemed high considering it wasn’t busy. Once the bartender overheard us talking about how long it was taking he ran to the back( you could tell he had forgotten all about it.) when he came back out he was holding the plate with a towel and told us to be careful because the plate was hot. I work in the industry so I know when food has been left in the hot window for too long. As you can see in the picture the pimento cheese has a discolored “film” from being exposed to too much heat. The slice of cheddar cheese was sweating like they didn’t melt it, they just threw a cold slice of cheese on the sandwich and relied on the heat from the prepared tub of Floyd’s chopped beef and the heat lamp to do all the “melting.” At $13.95 for 2 slices of sunbeam bread, prepared pimento cheese and prepared chopped beef I’d say that’s a great return for them and sub par at best as a consumer. Moonshine cocktails were great, -10/10 on the sandwich.
We (party of 2) dined here for the first time today around 12:15 pm. The place wasn’t busy. We sat at the bar. The food and service are average. Brunch menu is very affordable. We had the French toast, chicken and biscuit duo, and shrimp and avocado bruschetta. With the bruschetta- I’ve definitely had better at other places. The bread wasn’t even toasted… it was soft and mushy from the tomato juice. The shrimp seemed undercooked. The avocado had brown spots. With the chicken and biscuit duo, the chicken was fried too hard and/or cooked in old grease. It was difficult to cut. Some parts were dry and overly crispy. The advertised honey butter didn’t taste at all like honey… just watery melted butter. The biscuits was really good and soft! I like the decor - cool tree branches, faux greenery walls, swinging benches, etc. They have plenty of TVs. Some tables also had Jenga games.
Great atmosphere to hang out with a group of friends. We went on a Saturday night and it was packed! You find your own seating and wait until a waiter/waitress helps you. We sat there a good bit before my husband got someone's attention and asked who our waitress was. She left to check and came back and said it was her. Husband ordered the brisket grilled cheese and the Buffalo loaded fries, they were good. The brisket was good! I ordered the brisket loaded baked potato, it was good as well. They do not have a variety of non-alcoholic drinks, all they had was Diet Coke and water.
My boyfriend is picky with sports bars but this is consistently a good spot if you want to watch a bunch of different games. The food is regular bar food but it was satisfying. I was surprised how good their espresso martini was. Sometimes they taste watery but this one was legit.
Great atmosphere, live DJ with great vibes but minimal choices on the menu, I ordered lemon peppered wings, they were pretty good not listed on menu, didn't have drinks. The seating area inside is limited unless you reserve a booth space in which we sat at but was asked to leave early bc it was supposedly reserved. Plenty of seating outside but mosquitos were bad and it was quite muggy. Nice outdoor spot for pictures. The worst part about this place and all of the spots nearby requires $10 parking fee, outrageous!
Good food, but poor service. I ordered the brisket nacho plate without BBQ sauce and it was much bigger than I expected. Cheesy, brisket was better than expected. Chips were not dry, soft, or overdone. Can easily split among a group of people. Service on a Saturday night was poor. Staff spent a lot of time talking to themselves. Had to flag down staff to request a take out tray. Parking is not great. Lots of bars in the area and lots of no-parking/customer parking signs. Had to use valet parking.
Cool spot with a nice vibe and chill atmosphere. But don’t be surprised if your drink tastes more like juice with a ton of ice — I legit thought I got a lemon juice instead of a cocktail. Also, the customer service wasn’t great, not very friendly. Overall, decent place to hang, but not the best for drinks or service.
Been in here multiple times in the past without issues but apperantly they will not let me in this time because of neck tattoos. Even tried to pull the Vetarn card and got no luck lol great place in the past doesn't seem like I will be going back anytime soon unfortunately
Absolutely terrible experience. Easily one of the worst bars I’ve ever been to. The bartenders were beyond rude — acting like serving customers was a burden rather than their job. On top of that, they blatantly overcharged my card for drinks I didn’t order. Trying to get in contact with anyone from the bar to resolve the issue has been a complete joke — no response to calls, emails, or messages. It’s clear they don’t care about customer service or doing right by their patrons. Save yourself the money, the headache, and the frustration — there are plenty of better places to spend your night. I would never recommend this bar to anyone. Total scam operation.
I had the worst service at Moonshine Deck. Both bartenders are really bad, and it took the woman from the kitchen to get our order expedited. She was friendly and followed up with our order. The 2 bartenders this night were horrible, she was so miserable and didn’t acknowledge you or even speak. The other one, she was equally not happy to work or care if you had your food or second drink. Hopefully they won’t be there next time , if there is a next time. I really appreciated the woman that got our food from the kitchen. She is the best! Good atmosphere and food but those bartenders this night, not so good.
Waited over 35 minutes for chicken nachos to show up. Once delivered the chicken was still refrigerator cold. Sent the meal back they returned in 2 minutes and the chicken was still cold. Then they brought my wife's shrimp tacos out after waiting over 45 minutes. They did remove the food and comped 2 drinks we had
service was terrible. our server disappeared for 20 minutes. some of our things weren’t brought to us. great vibes and all but need to fix little things
We came in on a early Friday evening. The table service was great and the strawberry salad was excellent. We were there for an hour and there may have been 25 people inside, including the floor staff. The music was so loud, to the point where I couldn't understand the person across the table from me without having to ask WHAT repeatedly. I asked the management to turn it down just a little bit. They refused! It was definitely NOT lit inside!!
Place looked nice, I was excited to invite my pops for some drinks. Till the bartender took 10ish minutes to say hi, and then make someone else’s drinks just to tell me “espresso martinis have to be shaken a long time so I have to make other drinks first” ma’am…. Just tell me you forgot 🥺. And then the salad was miserable, maybe just came on too slow of a night. Won’t be coming back.
