Umami Sushi

I was still jetlagged from 17 hrs of flight. Great to find a place with good atmosphere and fresh tasty food. Great service from my server Jessica! Sushi chef was very careful to avoid shrimp & shellfish since I am allergic. Asked for omakase (literally "up to you") and got a great selection of delicious sushi. Got good sake to pair with the great food & entrees. Crispy rice & Brussel sprouts were flavorful. Ordered lots of food but didn't take enough pictures. Need to stop by again.

My kids love sushi and Unami is their always their first choice. The food is always fresh, highest quality and presentation is beautiful and well thought. My son’s fav is the crispy rice roll, my daughter’s fav is the shaggy roll, my fav is the OMG, udon soup, Riverstone roll and my husband loves the whole menu lol

My aunt recommended this restaurant in Sugar Land and I actually really liked it! They have a variety of delicious and unique sushi rolls. Each had a different taste and flavor so there’s something for everyone. All the ones I tried were very good. On top of that, the decor and aesthetic of the restaurant itself is super nice. They have a little bar area too. I would definitely come back to try more sushi!

SPICY TUNA CRISPY RICE… that’s all I have to say about this place. If I had to recommend only one, it would be just that. Everything about it is perfection, but the only thing I would say is it can have tad more spice to it. Regardless, I would literally come here just to get a couple orders of it. My husband has tried out their rolls, and he enjoys them. I’ve only ever ordered the Chirashi and everything tastes fresh and I love the variety of the pieces of fish. Everyone is always friendly, attentive, and welcoming. This has become our go to sushi spot whenever we are in town!

Update: we took the whole family for sushi this time around and everyone loved it. They have great quality sushi rolls and amazing deserts, probably best cream brûlée in town. Great family friendly atmosphere or to go with friends! My favorite restaurant in Riverstone in Sugar Land! The service is super attentive, and they offer fresh Japanese fish that’s hard to find in Southwest Houston. Their crudo and carpaccio menu is excellent. This is one of my go-to places when I’m craving high-quality sushi in Sugar Land.

Umami is great. The staff are very friendly and not obtrusive. The chef always picks wonderful cuts of fish. They consistently have a great selection. Their creations are always a treat. The Brussel sprouts are a favorite side as is their gyoza and edamame. I really enjoy their seaweed salad it’s one of the only ones where it has been entirely items from the sea. Their wagyu is melt in your mouth. The atmosphere is great playing some random but hip popular music. A great place to unwind.

This is the best Japanese restaurant in Sugar Land. I would attach photos, but I ate it all too fast. Top to bottom, this was five stars. My only regret is that I didn't discover this place sooner. Best-kept secret in Sugar Land 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We managed to sneak in on a Wednesday a few minutes before happy hour ended and they were kind enough to do last call for us. Decently large selection of dishes, LOTs of roll options. The happy hour is from 12-6 pm so a huge window as I learned. As the other reviews say the portion of fish is well sized and way better quality than I was expecting. The roll we got was delicious (I'm blanking on the name) but had spicy salmon inside and white tuna on top. We also got some chicken karaage which was not my favorite due to the texture. Not super crispy like a traditional karaage dish usually is. But the rest of what we got was very good. I think I have a new bang for your buck sushi place close to home. I would definitely wanna come during HH so I can try more things out. Service was okay, but our servers were very nice. The restaurant is large and has your standard table and booth seating.

Nothing more i can ask for. Great food, great presentation and excellent service. They also offer variety of tea which go really well with your sushi. The dishes are not cheap, but I think they are worth the money. I will definitely come back for more

Everything about the food was great. Fresh, flavorful apps, sushi, meal and desserts. The wait sometimes gets long, but well worth it. Once seated the food did come fairly quickly. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Seriously good food and good service, my favorite sushi spot.

Beautifully prepared dishes with delicious flavor. They even have a full tea menu! Waitstaff, sushi chefs, and kitchen staff are all welcoming and friendly. The owners are there frequently (as expeditors or to help waitstaff) and involved and are always checking to see if everyone is enjoying their meals. So kind and personable. This restaurant is an experience.

We happened upon Umami while visiting memory care facilites for my dad. We weren't hungry but definitely wanted a cocktail (touring facilities can be depressing stuff). We stopped into Umami and were given a menu and my husband and I looked at each other and said "I could eat." So many of their offerings looked tempting AND it was Happiest Hour so we wound up getting a crudo, a crispy rice and baked mussels. It was exactly what we didn't know we needed. Fresh, friendly, Happy Hour- everything was just perfect and we can't wait to go back.

Its like she read our minds 🤣🤣 The food came very quick and Ariana was such a sweetheart and checked up on us multiple times to make sure we were all set. Our waters were never empty!! Really great service here!!! The atmosphere was very lively and friendly too 😁😁 We will definitely be coming back!

I've had considerably better sushi at tons of places however, the staff were absolutely incredible and so kind and responsive though so I love them and highly recommend visiting if you're not a sushi diva.

But I appreciate that they offer half rolls and full rolls so that the customers could try more varieties. I had the Nabeyaki Udon, Sake Sashimi, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Scallop Robata, Wagyu Filet Mignon Robata, Sake Nigiri, Spicy Salmon Roll, LJ Pkwy roll, and Love Affair roll. The udon was ok. It had small cubes of chicken which were tough. The broth was a little salty. The sake sashimi and sake nigiri were fresh. The spicy tuna crispy rice was a fresh idea, a good dish. The scallop robata had too much sauce. Most of the flavor came from the sauce, thus I couldn’t taste any sweetness which should come from the scallop. I am disappointed with the wagyu filet mignon robata. It was over cooked and tough. The rolls were good. Staff were polite and always checking in. Food was served pretty fast too. Overall, food was ok but could be better.

Like the comment below…If you like terrible service this is your spot. The customer service is terrible as soon as you walk in. The girl that works the floor, bar and cash register is awful with customers. She seems to not want to service people of color who walk in her establishment. I gave this place two tries and I definitely won’t be back. First attempt I wanted to order something to-go but she seemed bothered and took her time getting to me. Although the people who walk in behind me were serviced before me. Second attempt I wanted to dine in hoping to get a better experience. NOT AT ALL. She was the same. Didn’t go over menu/lunch specials, didn’t ask if I had any questions about the menu, didn’t ask if I wanted to start with any starters and the list goes on. She was rushing me to make an order so she didn’t have to deal with me. I ordered, food came and was decent although their soda was watery. She didn’t ask if everything was okay or tasted well. Shortly after I would say 15 minutes into it she comes with my check. I asked for a to-go box (picture below) and she brings out the smallest box she has. It’s unfortunate to have such a nasty attitude and give bad service to new customers who could be returning customers. I actually found this place from an influencer on social media because she highly recommended as one of her spots to order from and it looked really good. From my experience I wouldn’t recommend coming here or ordering to-go from here again. (Replying to Owner) Like I said on my Yelp review …Yes, you’re initialed to your own opinion. But honestly as an African American and a hard working mother this was my experience how I was treated. Nobody is bashing or harassing on this platform. Honestly, you could’ve kept those words to yourself. Never did I once break down my experience based on minority percentages and who was or wasn’t a parent. This was my experience dining in at your establishment. Just make it right for others who would like to come dine in.
