Every time I go I have a different plate a every time I enjoy it a lot. Wednesday nights they offer salsa dancing lesson and party, and they have a good variety of margaritas/mohitos. Good place to enjoy lunch or dinner. Absolutely recommend it.
We eat at Agava regularly and love it. We've got our favorite menu items (the black bean burger with house made mustard will ruin you for other veggie burgers, and impress even meat eaters), but are generally pleased with almost everything we've tried. The staff are fantastic, and will promptly fix any little thing that might go awry.
when you pull up to this place it has a bit of a road house bar look about it with not much parking, but there is ample parking in the rear. Inside it is tastefully laid out with local artist paintings on the walls, which are for sale. The appertiser of scallops, 2 for $11 were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The house burger could not have been fresher and again cooked perfectly. The salmon about the size of a deck of cards for $26 was a little dry. The special of haddock which was fresh but only about a one and a half inche cube was very skimpy. The food took 45 minutes to come to the table from when we ordered it which might explain the salmon's dryness. All and all a agreat experience and we will be back !!
This place is my absolute favorite! I *love* their charred margarita! Their daily specials keep the menu fresh and interesting, plus they frequently change up their overall menu. There are plenty of options for vegetarian and vegan customers, too. If I could eat here every day, I would!
Met a friend for brunch last Saturday. The Huevos Rancheros were excellent. The server was sweet and very good. Nice and quiet so conversation was easy. Good music playing softly in the background. I Highly recommend this restaurant
Best restaurant in Ithaca. Incredible food that is both healthy and delicious. All of the food is locally sourced and tastes amazing. The drinks are unreal. When we tried a mezcal flight (such a cool option) the manager came and talked us through a bunch of options and was so kind and helpful. Amazing experience and we learned a ton about mezcal!
The dinner tonight was delicious. Agava always has interesting and creative culinary specials. The staff is incredibly friendly and the drinks are great! Be prepared for them to be packed, with guests.
Fantastic food. Excellent staff. Nice atmosphere. Wonderful drinks. Even the music just fits. Highly recommended if you're in the area.
I’m someone who likes to cook their own meals and I seldom eat out. I’ve now visited Agava four times now in the five months since I moved to Ithaca. Their food is top-notch, every time. I’m vegetarian, and they have plenty of choices for me. Whether you’re vegetarian or a meat-lover, you must try their roasted cauliflower - it is priceless! Their menu is a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth it. Their service is very good too, and the waiters are knowledgeable about the menu and good with their suggestion and specials. The only (minor) downside is that they don’t seem happy/willing to accommodate requests to substitute or remove certain ingredients, but I think perhaps that is to be expected from a more upscale dining experience.
This place was great and kids eat free on Tuesday. Not only did they give great service to our kids table of 4 nine year olds, the food was amazing with many tasty veg selections for our friends. Food was as good as I have had on the city and the beer selection was also great.
I live in Rochester but go to Ithaca sometimes for concerts and what not. I found Agava just trying to browse instagram and find the best food in Ithaca. We went last night before a concert and I can't even express how amazing the whole experience was. Both myself and my mom are extremely picky when it comes to food and service. We have both worked in the industry for over 15 years (my mom probably around 30 years or more). I also own a small bakery myself. There's nothing more I love in life than good food. We ordered an appetizer special, a few small plates, a flat bread and tacos. The food tasted so good, flavorful and fresh. The crab cake taco was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. We also had great cocktails. I got the Smokey Rose, and a Strawberry basil margarita, my mom got a Mojito. The whole place was packed, but it didn't feel too crowded or uncomfortable and I loved the decorations and the way they had it set up. We called about an hour before we came and they only had room to reserve seats for us at the Wood fired oven community area which ended up being awesome because you can watch the chefs and see into the kitchen which was really cool. The waitstaff were all very positive, quick and helpful the whole time. I can't wait to go back!
Fantastic food. I and my co-worker had gone in for dinner tonight; we both are vegetarians and ordered Brussel sprouts, Quinoa fritters, black bean burger and vegan cauliflower steak. All of them were really good; I have never had a cauliflower tasted like that before. Never imagined you can make such fantastic fritters with quinoa! The burger was so well made. Overall, great food. Slightly pricey but well worth it!
Awesome place for different dietary needs. They give salsa and chips to start. Wasn't too fond of the salsa, but the chips were excellent. Mojito was tasty, would have had another, but I get giddy off one. I had the roasted cauliflower entree, shared a large salad with hubby, he had a sampling of tacos; pork, vegetarian, and 2 scallop tostadas (smaller than child size.) Servers were extremely friendly and even though they were busy, you didn't feel pushed out. Would definitely go back if in Ithaca again.
I love the new shorter concise and delicious menu and the adherence to the theme of the place simply feels like a place with strong muse! Brunch yesterday was divine. the poached eggs were perfect and avocado toast basically improved my quality of life!
The food was great, all fresh to order. They make really good burgers. The wait staff where all friendly, service was good. We went for brunch and they where moderately busy around noon.
I went to Agava with my brother, my family and his girlfriend's family. There were eight of us and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our food and our drinks. We went for brunch and the staff was wonderful. I do recommend a reservation be made before 2. The kitchen closes at 2 so you may be rushed to get your order in and that could ruin the experience.
This place is a hidden gem! Not only is it cute and service fabulous but the food is the real star. I live in NYC so variety is normal for me; however, I found items on this menu I never saw in the city. Fresh food, truly delicious, a must go to if you have a chance.
This is my favorite spot in Ithaca. They try and keep it local and anything I get ALWAYS tastes sooooo delicious. They really care about the ingredients going into the dishes and boast a wonderful specials menu that's updated with the seasons (there's also a different salsa every time I go). They have a great happy hour, the staff always takes such good care whether you're a small or large party and the music is on point. You have to try the Habanero sauce if you like spicy. I put in my margarita and dip the flatbread in it. I highly recommend this spot. You'll fall more and more in love with this southwest farm-to-table restaurant with every bite and drink! Thank you Agava!
Food was really quite pleasant, staff is friendly, decor is artful. I've always been especially pleased with their vegetarian and vegan options, which are consistently full of flavor and excellent quality ingredients.
Make a reservation, it's absolutely worth it! The food is phenomenol! My agave burger that I ordered well done had no pink but was tender and juicy. Their caramelized onions and special sauce is fantastic! Our server Abby wanted to know our story and genuinely wanted us to be happy! Absolutely loved Agava and will come again!
What a pleasant surprise! This was a true find on the outskirts of Ithaca. Menu was phenomenal with great variety, including drinks. All the food we ordered was outstanding. Bar service was a bit slow, but wait staff was engaging and cheerful!
The food was phenomenal. Our server Mary was very pleasant and attentive. Great place to eat and the atmosphere is so nice. Highly recommend. 😁 Will be returning. The burger and , the butternut squash and sweet potato soup was awesome. place is just delish. 🎯👍👍👍
Great place to dine in and take out. Have been here several times while visiting the area and it's always nice to try new dishes based on what's in season. Can't go wrong with any of their mixed drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Staff is friendly and we never feel out of place even though we aren't locals.
Mom and I shared the Farro thee well salad and chicken tacos. They were the bomb dot com. Super delicious. Felt super safe, and the staff is doing a great job sanitizing and social distancing. Also had the watermelon mint house made soda, super delicious. Highly recommend.
A great spot for Southwest inspired brunch and lunch/dinner options. They also have good drink specials and a unique environment. The best part is Wednesday night, when the establishment clears out some tables and has Latin Dance night. A ton of fun, would highly recommend a visit!
I have a lot of food restrictions and our server was so sweet and conscientious about it. I really felt taken care of and not like an inconvenience. This place has really delicious food, it's not overpriced, and all the nicest people in Ithaca seem to work here! It's unpretentious without sacrificing any quality.
I have been to lunch or drinks at Agava on several occasions but never dinner. I was delighted with the menu. Something unique in every category. Reasonably priced. Margherita to die for. The staff were all exceptional and also had good comararderi with one another. We were on the covered patio in a heat wave and it was surprisingly comfortable! I was able to bring my very sweet natured Boston Terrier which meant so much to me because I was in from out of town and had to bring him anywhere I went. They had a canine menu! Very healthy, fresh people quality food and water, as well as attention from guests and waitstaff alike. Remember, we were outdoors..he would not have been inside the restaurant of course! I highly recommend Agava for dinner and cocktails 😀
This place has a great menu and accommodates vegetarian and gluten free customers. We had a large party of 12 and everyone was more than satisfied. We had margaritas, apps, entrees and dessert. My son had the chocolate cake and says it was awesome. My niece, Rubyz,, took the pics for this review. I highly reccomend if you are in the mood for good food and a light hearted atmosphere.
Hands down the best place to eat in town. Staffs were extremely friendly especially MiraBai she was amazingly attentive and fantastically great. She should get a raise. Portion sizes are too small but that’s what you get at gourmet places anyways. I tried swordfish, squid ink pasta, octopus, salmon and cheesecake and truly loved all of the food. Even their drinks were great. I’d definitely go back there if I’m in town.
If you are a foodie or love exploring interesting favor experiences, this place is for you. I had bites of the brussel sprouts appetizer, the sweet potato appetizer, the black bean burger, and the cauliflower steak, and MY GOD, absolutely amazing all around. Complicated evolving flavor palettes and fantastic creativity, this place is worth experiencing.
the environment is pleasant and comfortable. the food was great. I had the carnitas tacos and I LOVED THEM. it was the exact amount of food I wanted, but I think most people will need to get something else as well as the tacos since you only get two and they aren't huge. the service was attentive, and helpful! I told them when I came in that I only had twenty minutes to eat and they got me my food and still ensured I had a great experience! so happy.
First time going to brunch at Agava and I was not disappointed! Crabby patties were a hit with me, as were the wood oven cinnamon rolls. Partner had a specialty omelette and liked it a lot. Not a cheap place per se, but for two with coffee and "appetizer" came to $38 but we had a $10 off coupon that brought that total down.
Nice and ambiant dinner experience after local Cornell women's hockey game. Joshua was very good with his asst. Dinner wasnt as warm as I like but he was very busy with a lg 16 party table. The bugers were as good as last time and it is nice to have gf bun too. Thanks for a lovely night!
We were on a time crunch, and the hostess was able to be accomodating by seating us next to the wood fired oven. From the buzz in the room we felt fortunate to be squeezed in. On a Saturday night reservations might be a better idea. Great Margheritas and the Menu is hard to decipher because everything is so delicious! Team members on staff were friendly and upbeat.
Very nice restaurant. The cauliflower nachos were amazing!! The chips and guacamole were also good but a lot of the chips were chewy rather than crispy. Interesting drinks, some a little overpriced for the size of the drink.
My favorite restaurant in Ithaca. I love their flatbread pizzas because they are woodfired and that flavor really comes out in the dough. They also have a great tequila selection and make fantastic margaritas. It's also very nicely decorated - very nice atmosphere. The only thing I don't love is that is can get very busy and it can be hard to find good seating. I believe on most days they do not take reservations.
Friendly staff, good Tex Mex menu. Interior is cute but gets crowded during restaurant rush hour. Killer covered patio that allows dogs. Decent tap selection for a cocktail bar. Cocktails are more boozey than they are refined but everything is priced fairly, and it doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Some small mistakes in the order where quickly fixed, and reflected in the check. Remember to Ask for the guac on the side, I wasn't partial to it on my nachos but we didn't have the same reservations when it came to the free chips, and scarfed it up anyway.
We were seated very quickly. The cocktails were good. We would highly recommend the Mary Jane app! The El Padre was good. We opted for the flour tortilla. The Beeker Taco was a very nice change to a typical taco. I loved the fried brussel sprout crunch with the smooth hummus. The beans/rice needed a little salt and hot sauce, but good otherwise. I would have loved to see a little green onion on them.
While we got seated very very quickly, with no reservation - the waiter did not show up at all for over 15 minutes...people who got seated after us, got served and even got their food...and we were wondering if they forgot us, or something else was wrong. I was about to getup and leave the restaurant, when my wife decided to check with one of the waiters....and very soon enough someone showed up. I am glad we stayed...the food was really worth it. I was really surprised that of the 25,000 people who had showed up to Cornell's graduation - this restaurant was literally empty....even some of the graduates we checked up with, had not even heard of this restaurant. The brunch menu is sparse, but excellent. It sources local vegetables and meat...and eggs. Highly recommended.
The food here was delicious! However, the service was a bit lacking. They had just finished a busy lunch rush, and perhaps that was why our server was not checking on us very often at all, because she was exhausted from lunch. But regardless, we had a hard time flagging her down for refills on drinks, salt, or anything else. The food is absolutely delicious, though if you are looking for a flatbread, just understand that the flatbreads on their menu are more like pizza. My pizza flatbread was delicious! But it was not the flatbread I was expecting. Overall, very happy with the food quality, but try to come at a less busy time.
We enjoy eating here despite inconsistent food preparation. Kids eat free on Tuesdays which makes this a nice place to treat the family. I like their Agava burger but they rarely cook it properly. If you like well done burgers, this is your joint! If not, get a flat bread or torta. Despite it being a Mexican restaurant, I find the non-Mexican dishes to be better prepared. I love Mexican food but haven't had great experiences with theirs, mostly due to inconsistency. One time it will be great but the next time ruins the experience so I stick with the flat bread and burger.
My SO and I stopped in here once for lunch while attending a wedding this past weekend. The food is fresh and handmade, both the chips and the fries are downright addicting, and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. Definitely recommend.
One of our favorite after work happy hour stops. Good selection of beers on tap and they do not skimp on the mixed drinks (very good Mojitos and Margaritas). Flat bread pizzas are excellent; as are the tacos; good burger too. Love the chips and salsa they bring to the table.
We loved this restaurant! We were looking for a late night dinner and cocktails, and we were very happy with the menu and setting. Service, food and cocktails were fantastic. Especially loved the decor and ambiance of the place. Can't wait to return!
Liz and I have had dinner here many times. It is the best place for drinks and dinner on East Hill in Ithaca NY. The food is always good, the drinks are very fair priced (happy hour pints cheap!), the servers are always very welcoming and friendly. The space inside is a little tight, but the deck out back is very spacious. They serve free chips and salsa with your drinks. It is curious that the house made salsa is never the same; it is remarkably different flavor, color and texture every time we have it, but it is always good. It is fun because you never know what salsa will come out each time but it is always a new and pleasant treat. It's a really cool place. They do live music often. The selection of bourbons and tequila is the most expansive of any restaurant in the region - hands down! They have a good selection of craft beer and it changes regularly. Much of their food is locally grown / produced and that is cool. If you're in the area you should go here... you'll be glad you did.
This used to be one of my favorite go-to places. It's still good, but not as good as it was 3 or 4 years ago in my opinion. The sandwich menu is more limited and the burgers are only so-so. Having said the above, it's still a good seasonal menu, uses locally grown ingredients, has plenty of beer choices and other alcohol choices, and incredibly good hand-cut fries with house made ketchup. Plus, it has live music weekly, which is a very, very good thing. So despite my reservations I still rate it highly - 4/5.
The menu has been repeatedly changed in the last few years. This change was definitely for the better. I had an herb roasted salmon that was delicious. Portions are generous. The only downside is that tables are close together and it can get a little noisy.
Brunch is amazing here! They also have the largest alcohol selection I have ever encountered. When college is in session I recommend making reservations as there will be a wait, but in the summer you can get a table right away. It is definitely on the more expensive end for food, and while I think it is worth it for their brunch, the only time I've ever gone for dinner it was awful. I am sure they were just busy since It was very crowded that night, but the dish I ordered was "okay" pretty bland and not worth the price. I will probably try to get dinner again over the summer since I enjoy their brunch so much.
I’ve eaten here twice and both meals were good, but staff can sometimes be rude. Manager refused to give us the happy hour discount advertised on their Instagram, even when the waitress said we’d get the discount when we asked at the beginning of the meal. Wasn’t even at our table for more than an hour and a half with plenty of extra tables around and was asked to leave because our table was reserved. Portions are a little small for the price too, especially for the appetizers.
Our last visit at Agava pleasantly surprised me, in the past the food was never great, all over the place in terms of flavors, unimpressive preparation. This time we only went for drinks and appetizers at a quiet time and it was good! We had the charred corn flatbread and two cocktails, a margarita and a mule. Margarita very good, mule so-so, flatbread a little under-seasoned but well prepared otherwise. Staff was friendly and attentive.
Somewhat surprised by the menu that had very limited "southwest" choices. Having recently visited the southwest, I was expecting refried beans, rice, enchiladas, tacos, mole, guacamole, margaritas, etc. They were not on the menu. The best thing that we had was the brussels sprouts appetizer. Our daughter had the very disappointing mushroom fettuccini. The black bean burger was really good. Great service! We do understand how difficult it is to source certain things during these times and perhaps they used what they had. I would like to try it again and check first on the menu to see if they have changed it up and added more authentic southwest menu choices.
Consistent food, decent beer menu, fun and clean atmosphere, with a classy edge to it. The black bean burgers are a favorite. My friends say they make good drinks, too. We've always enjoyed our times here, business or casual.
Good, strong Southwestern-style restaurant; but fairly expensive, not to mention 'tight' portion-sizes. Pleasant, dim-atmosphere with a warm-weather, semi-outdoor area. Waiters/waitresses are working-hard in order to earn tips, so service is prompt &responsive. I'd visit regularly: and definitely consider it a good daytime-meeting or brunch location.
Quality of ingredients was good. Service was friendly and prompt. Meal preparation was good, but not on par with the prices in my opinion. Close maybe. Vegetarians may enjoy this establishment more than hearty meat eaters. The smoked trout Appetizer was the best of the evening, but it is small. Alcohol is marked up the usual multiple over retail, but is generally well prepared.
The daily specials were very good, especially the beet salad, which was delicious. I enjoyed the chicken soup - tasty with just a hint of tanginess. Good for a cold evening. We had the Ultimate margarita. It's not a large cocktail as margaritas sometimes are, but was of very good quality. The staff were all friendly with attentive and prompt service. I would definitely eat here again.
Decent quality food, but not as good as I was expecting from reviews. Very busy place, and would definitely recommend a reservation if you want to be able to spend time here. I went without one, and they were able to seat us immediately with the condition we needed to be out before their next reservation. Highly recommend their chicken wing appetizer, if you can handle a little bit of spice. This was definitely the best dish I had to eat while there.
Three stars for beer selection. I like tasty beers. Two stars for the food. Place my order less than a minute later my food came out. Order the padre (shredded pork taco with a side of black beans and white rice) White rice really? I also ordered MC5 (brussel sprouts, chickpeas, and sprinkle of cabbage). On first inspection, the food had been seating there. The black beans were dry, the pork mushy. The brussel sprouts tasted good because its drenched with caramelized sugar. For the price, make the food fresh. Shout out to Dave the waiter, congrats to you!
Cocktails are as wonderful as ever, but sadly seems the food (selection and prep) may have slidden as of late. Hoping it was just an off night as Agava is one of my former favs!
The food here was great as was the atmosphere. However one aspect of our experience did not match the 5 stars that the food deserves. This was their unwillingness to make a simple swap of a side to replace an item that I was unable to eat due to a medical dietary need. Instead I had to pay extra for a side I could eat. This is ridiculous.
Well. Had a reservation. Still had to wait in line of walk ins. 18 minutes from when the waitress took our drink order and came with drinks. Extreme amateur staff. Need management in the front. Food was decent. Not worth going back however.
Over hyped. Food was above avg, but def not the best ever. Portions were small, Enchiladas. Blackened catfish Tacos, not enough seasoning, very bland. Wait staff seemed to be rushing us, to flip the table. Menu limited, not many options. Too many other choices in the area, will prob not return.
I'm torn about Agava. The ambiance is great and I love the nice music scene. I feel like the food is okay and way too pricey. If you don't care about cost I might recommend it more, but there are better spots in Ithaca for all the food Agava serves. They recently revamped their menu for simplicity, but I was still underwhelmed with my entre. A safe place to take people without a sophisticated palate who are also buying.
Food was superb! Drink was probably under poured. Was way below rim of rocks glass. Main pet peeve was the flies! They were swarming about us that we couldn't enjoy our food! I would definitely go back though in the fall/winter.
Unfortunately disappointing. Friendly service, not inedible by any means, just not worth the money. Got the hanger steak, while it was decent my entire dish was barely warm and I could have seasoned a steak better myself. For 40 something dollars it was underwhelming. My friend got the eggplant with smoked cashew cream and while it wasn’t terrible it wasn’t impressive either. Maybe should have stuck to the flatbreads or a burger? The fries were great. Just felt like the dishes were good ideas but poorly executed and barely seasoned. Also the vibe of the restaurant and direction of the menu weren’t really connecting.
Because they couldn't be guaranteed a reservation the friends who live here placed a takeout order and we sat on a picnic table outside. The take-out tasted like take-out. Not that warm and in plastic containers. I am sure the food is better if one is dining in. The fried brussel sprouts were quite good.
Place is great. Good food. But they won't let the live bands playing as loud as they need to to perform correctly. They kept embarrassingly asking Vicky V who's really well known and the most amazing drummer I've ever seen to lower the volume.l over and over again. I was really embarrassed for them!
Food menu is relatively small, but drink menu is pretty large. A few vegetarian options. Chips and salsa are free with lunch and dinner (but careful-- it's only salsa that is free, not guac). They do have a kids menu, and kids eat free on Tuesdays (1 free kids meal with purchase of 1 adult meal) Often there is live music in the bar area. Parking lot on both sides of the building, and extra parking available in a lot a short walk away (all free)
Agava used to be one of my favorite restaurants. For a couple of years now Ive been disappointed by menu changes, not great service, way longer waits etc. I’m shocked that agava doesn’t even serve tacos anymore! In the past, vegan options were abundant. Today, the best you’ll get for a vegan meal will be limited to salad. It saddens me that Agava is not one of my favorites anymore :(
We’ve been eating at Agava for about three years. Over the three years we’ve had varying experiences eating there; loved and disliked their food. After going to Agava tonight I don’t know that we’d go back. Their food was, “meh” and it’s very overpriced for the portions they give you. My husband got the $18 taco special with two measly tacos and a small side of rice and beans on his plate. My kids got meals from the kids menu that they liked but were very small. I got a salad that was okay. The greens used needed to be cut apart. It was a little bitter and lacked seasoning. There were only four pieces of cheese in the salad and the tortilla topping was stale. We ordered a side of their fries because they USED to have the best fries. When the fries came they were definitely from a bag. So disappointing!!! They were not crispy and limp. When I complained to the waiter that the only reason I ordered the fries was because they used to be homemade, he didn’t bother to apologize or take them off our meal. I wouldn’t recommend going to Agava. I was very disappointed in their prices and customer care. This was our final chance, “giving Agava a try” and hoping we would like it better than the last time.
The bartenders didn't spend much time with you. Sat at the bar and nobody made you feel welcomed. Ordered a $23 chicken #10 meal. It was less serving than you would get a fast food place for less than 10 bucks. Was literally a chicken thigh and leg with the bone in, a couple pieces of green and some mashed potatoes.
Drinks were good, food was fine, service was pretty bad. Had an issue with the food, and no one ever came to check in. Our group just sat and waited for 25 mins until someone come by. When it came time to pay, the only tip options were 20-, 25- and 30%... which you had to fill out while the server was holding the iPad. If the server had a better attitude, I could don’t think I would have written this and assumed it was an off night for the kitchen. Also, for the others who have been coming here for several years like me, the menu has changed and it’s disappointing. (Black bean burger is still on!)
Very disappointing experience after seeing and hearing so many rave reviews from locals. The dining area was very full and noisy on a Monday night with reservations for 7. Service was slow and inattentive and the food was merely acceptable and felt overpriced for the portions and inconsistent cooking. 45 minutes to get 2 simple taco plates, a salad with half a dozen shrimp, and a filet after a lengthy wait to orders. Embarrassed to have taken guests since the size if our party (6) resulted in an automatic gratuity (18%). Kids were also unimpressed even if they got their food a bit sooner.
Went here a couple weeks ago for the first time an most likely the last. :/ Had the Enchiladas an they where so bland like not an ounce of seasoning was used an for the price point it was so not worth it. Also the atmosphere in the bar area seemed tense with a manager(?) over seeing the workers super close an it gave off a vibe ya didn’t wanna sit or eat around. I want to stress however the hostess & bartender where super nice just sad the food is lacking in flavor.
3 year ago it was a 5 star restaurant. Amazing food and drinks. It has gone downhill each year since. We sat at our table for over 30 minutes waiting for drinks we ordered then was brought the wrong drink. No one came to our table to check on us unless they were delivering food. The pizza I got was doughy not correct. My husband's food was cold.... the only thing they still have is good drinks.
Pros: The venue is really interestingly decorated with great art and lighting. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Cons: Menu is surprising short with very limited authentic Mexican food choices. Only 1 type of tacos comes with meat, which unless you like it in one big chunk you have to chop the meat up yourself. No options for burritos, totstadas, enchiladas, etc. Not even the dessert menu had any Mexican options. "South West inspired" is used very loosely here. Overall: Would not recommend and will not return. Save your money and just go to Chipotle.
Good selection of healthy food and indulgences. Best for a casual night out. Unfortunately, highly inconsistent. Sometimes it's great. I have also had my worse restaurant experience every there. 2 hrs waiting for food. Bugs on vegetables. Baconless bacon bloody Mary. A raw burger. I have been a regular be for years but the last couple visits have been so horrendous, I can't imagine going back. They need to turn this around, because the concept is great.
I'm in disbelief as why this place has so many descent reviews?? If you scroll down, you will rarely see a bad review by me and especially that long. But I just have to leave this one. Hopefully, the management will notice and take action in improving the quality of their food. You just can't expect the customer paying a descent $$ amount for such mediocre food. We were left HUNGRY on our drive home! I was there for a tennis tournament at Cornel with my son and decided to order takeout bc the restaurant was nearby and bc we had to drive back home and didn't have much time. I ordered salmon, flatbread dish, and vegetarian burger. We both were severely disappointed. Even my son who can eat generally everything told that the flatbread was barely edible. It was burned, tough as a rock, and that mozzarella/ basil/ and tomatoes that were supposed to be on top of it were barely there and certainly looked anything but fresh. Overcooked. Salmon was slightly better but still desired to be cooked better. It was greezy and smelled a bit weird. The vegetable burger usually can't be made wrong, right? This was saulty dry and just was not appetizing. 70% of what you 'prepared' was thrown away. I should have supplemented this with photos...
After trying to plan our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at Agava for the past 6 weeks, we finally realized that it's been nothing short of a colossal waste of our time. After telling the manager what we wanted several times (as she never remembered any previous emails, phone conversations, menus or prices that she quoted us) we have now decided to have it somewhere else. We really wanted to have it at Agava since my fiancée and I love the food, but unfortunately planning for a group of 40 proved to be too much for them to handle. The last email we sent politely stated that it had been 6 weeks and that we would like to get a final menu figured out and a deposit down by weeks end. In response, we received a very rude email telling us if we were unhappy with the way things were going that we could have it elsewhere….so that’s exactly what we are doing. Sad to say we will never be eating there or recommending it to anyone ever again!
😬 I had high expectations of this place. Unfortunately they didn’t deliver. It took 15 minutes for our sever to get to us after we were seated. The food was delivered cold. Meanwhile, the table next us had a similar situation with their server. They actually had to stop another server and ask where their server was. We had ordered a pizza And after waiting 30 minutes for it we were all set. I don’t really recommend this place unless you are okay with poor service. :(
If you are planning to take the family, you will end up having hungry children in spite of your $100+ bill. Is this only me who thinks Agava overprices? I ordered $17 tacos plates. Only three 4" size tacos with tiny tops (=nothing special taste) came with a large bucket size of fries as a side. Folks, it is $17 entree! I was very hungry after I ate this entree. I cannot trust their menu again so I won't go back. This restaurant exists for one-time-customer, especially Cornell's visitors, not for local people.
This is one confused restaurant. The name, decor, margarita signs, and complementary chips and salsa lead you to believe this is a Mexican restaurant. And yet the majority of the menu is Italian or American. Nothing was seasoned properly, not the rice or pasta. The pasta was bland and missing basics like garlic and salt. The margarita that there's signs all over for was undrinkable. And it took an hour and a quarter to serve four simple meals on a mildly busy evening. The service was fine and the ambiance was fine. The crab cake tacos and cucumber mojitos were actually pretty good. But they need to pick a concept and make it much better.
Ordered burgers, waited for 45 minutes, came out raw and plain. They can't cook even the burgers. Food is overpriced, nothing special. Go elsewhere. Service was fine, felt sorry for the girl who has to work in a very hot weather outdoors wearing a mask.
The restaurant has gone steadily down hill for the last few years. Service staff are often slow to respond to tables, the portions have gotten smaller and smaller with the prices going higher and higher. The most recent meal there the burger one of our party ordered arrived completely raw on the inside. Burger was comped but no manager ever came to apologize and no other attempt to keep our business was made. The only good thing going for them is the bar where there is a very good selection of beer and mixed drinks. Even the pizzas are small and not worth the price any more. We used to go there a lot as a family, but we will now take our business elsewhere.
Graduation weekend. Menu e-mailed to me listed a welcome drink, when I asked the waitress about this she said, nope. Food WAY overpriced for what was served, very disappointed in the quality. Asked if the coffee was fresh, again nope and when I asked if they could make fresh, I was told they needed to finish up the old coffee first. So...no coffee. $48/per person plus additional $10 for steak. Ridiculous!! I've never spent this much money on such mediocre food. We will not be back.
We ordered the corn dip which was really good but we waited over an hour for our dinner. We ended up asking it to go. Ridiculous we didn’t want to stay to eat bc we were with our toddler. Luckily the waitress had the brains to bring my daughters food first so she didn’t have to wait to eat. I think she forgot to put the order in because the table next to us received their food and they got there later. The waitress said she would bring the manager and he never showed up.
We've been coming here for years. There was a very noticeable difference in atmosphere, food flavors, hospitality but mostly the bar tenders lack of timing, coordination and prioritizing. I ordered a glass of wine to go with my dinner and 20 minutes later finally came out in a small glass and was about maybe 4 ounces for $12!!! The food not near the usual quality..There was a woman walking around and I'm assuming she was the manager. Never engaged the customers...she was not helping...just wondering...she should have got behind the bar and helped the bar tenders at least...just pour beer or wine...very poor and disappointing nite...we left sad...we willNOT come back. very poor 1 management
Agava has been gone a long time! The restaurant that replaced it was called B G Budas East Hill Italian Grill, but that one is closed now, too.
