Had a great Valentine’s Day brunch at Sovana Bistro! I ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich (no pickles or slaw) and it was so good — crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with the sweet heat. The fries were fresh and hit the spot. Sarah got the butternut squash and pear pizza and it was honestly incredible. The flavors worked so well together — a little sweet, a little savory, and super fresh. You can tell they care about quality ingredients. We also tried the seasonal black cherry mimosas, which were delicious and festive without being overly sweet. Everything was really good, the vibe was cozy and welcoming, and we had such a nice time. Definitely a go-to spot for brunch or a date. We’ll be back!
Our server who I believe is Fabiola Z was awesome. She was really on top of things and suuuper nice. I felt like I was being treated like royalty. The food was great too I was stuffed. Very fancy place. The brown butter tort wasn't very good though
Always a great experience!! Popped in for lunch and wasn’t disappointed. Our visit started with a warm, friendly welcome at the door. Seated in my favourite high top table not that they know which I like. Service was very attentive and even made changes to my lunch so I could have a warm soup. Food was delicious. Best onion soup I’ve had in a while. Look forward to my next visit.
We’ll be back for sure. Francesca was our server - she was amazing and gave great recommendations! They had lots of gluten free & celiac safe options. I got the corn and tomato bisque, brussel sprouts, and the apple pizza. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.
Highly recommend. Very friendly staff and delicious food and cocktails. They also made it special for me for my birthday and brought out a birthday dessert with a candle and song❤️
Great experience after a long day at Longwood Gardens Tasty and creative menu that did not disappoint. Made reservations and was accommodated on time. Food was presented artfully. Mushroom toast tasty but not worth the inflated price. Branzino special was delightful. Squid ink pasta a big hit and the duck confit was superb but portion on the small side. Our server was new and the service was slower than we would have preferred but it did not detract from our festive spirits or terrific food. The place was JUMPING !! We would return.
Wonderful experience! Michael was incredibly professional and kind, and all the personal touches felt super special 🩵
Stopped in here for a quick lunch and was not disappointed. The menu features some great seasonal but funky offerings like truffle Mac and cheese. The pizzas are cooked perfectly and feature a light and airy and crispy crust. Hope to be back soon to try some of their other dishes.
Excellent food in a rustic atmosphere. Staff was top notch. On the pricey side, but affordable and well worth it.
Just had lunch at this great restaurant in Unionville. The place is surprisingly bigger inside than it appears from the outside. The service was Excellent. Our server, Matt, was knowledgeable, friendly and humorous. The choices were almost limitless and the presentation and taste were amazing. I had the express lunch with a tomato zucchini bisque soup a fresh salad with grapes, onions and nuts along with a half sandwich of pear, cheddar and bacon on seeded rye. This was followed by a blonde brownie chocolate mousse. Excellent. My wife had the Swiss chard ravioli with a garlic black butter sauce. Can’t say enough about this place. We will definitely return!
They have a delicious menu that's always rotating with the seasons. The staff are experts and provide amazing service! Among my top go-to restaurants!! Update: I just went for dinner and had another amazing experience! Pork belly, mushroom ravioli, Tuna Tartare, and other delicious delights!
We stopped in on a rainy Saturday early afternoon in February and sat at the bar. We only had brussel sprouts to eat and they were very good. Then menu looked fantastic and we could see the food that other people at the bar were eating and it all looked good as well. The bartender was friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was relaxed and easy. Bathrooms were clean. I’d stop here again and try something else to eat if in the area again.
🍁Sovana Bistro - Kennet Square - This place has been on my hit list for about 4 years. When I told our friends I made a reservation here she said it was her favorite restaurant. ( "Santa 🎅🏻" gets her a Gift Card here every year and now I know why. ) The food and drinks are sophisticated but the atmosphere feels casual and not pretentious..... but still nice enough to come here for a celebration. We got the grilled brie, brussell sprouts, sausage and fennel pizza, meatballs, roasted mushrooms, something with eggs ( I didn't order it) , hamburger, butternut squash ravioli, octopus, butterscotch cake with a side of vanilla gelato and chocolate molten lava cake with a side of coffee gelato. Everything was extremely delicious but the highlights for me were the butternut squash ravioli ( made in-house), roasted mushrooms, brussell sprouts and the octopus ( and easy dish to get wrong). I noted on our online reservation that we had a birthday and without having to mention it when we got there, there was a special birthday card on the table and when they brought desserts there was a candle on the cake. I'm always impressed when the place remembers without having to remind them. 🎂 The only negatives was that service was on the slower side and some of the entree portions also seemed a bit small. This place is 5 minutes from Longwood Gardens so a great option if you want a nice meal nearby. It's a long drive here for us but was well worth and was quite scenic on this beautiful fall day. Overall an outstanding meal! 🍁
Thank you for having such a delightful and extensive vegan menu! The roasted mushrooms, beet salad, fresh veg grain bowl and cauliflower tacos were absolutely delicious! We somehow had room for the strawberry crisp dessert and sweet berries and savory crumble topping were scrumptous!
Our go to place for years for Anniversaries and celebrations, Sovana has always had a cozy informal atmosphere for fine dining and consistently delicious meals. Go for pizza or choose from the entrees- everything from the steak to the fish to the chicken is incredible and you can’t go wrong with one of their homemade pastas. Recently renovated and tastefully done but in keeping with the informal feel, it’s the perfect place for date nights or a night out with friends and there is a bar scene there as well.
Great, atmosphere and service. I decided to try the meatball pizza since it was kind of different. I didn’t feel like it had a ton of flavor. To be honest, I wish I would have opted for different toppings. Honestly, the star of the show for my meal was the bread with the three different spreads.
Sovana Bistro in Newtown Square offers a delightful dining experience that seamlessly blends modern elegance with cozy comfort. Upon entering, the renovated ambiance exudes charm, making guests feel instantly at home. The attentive and warm staff further enhance the welcoming atmosphere, ensuring a pleasant visit from start to finish. During a bustling Saturday brunch/lunch, the restaurant remained consistently busy, a testament to its exceptional quality. Seated at a cozy two-seat table by the window, the ambiance was intimate and inviting. The culinary journey truly began with the Bread Board, featuring delectable focaccia accompanied by three irresistible spreads. While the mango mimosa lacked a mango flavor The wild boar pappardelle stole the show with its meaty sauce and perfectly cooked fresh pasta. The Sovana Double Burger, though its patties appeared to be from frozen, still impressed with its flavorful profile, complemented by the indulgent raclette cheese. The accompanying fries, while tasty, could have benefited from a touch more crispiness. For dessert, the Liquid Center Butterscotch Cake provided a memorable finale, its luscious butterscotch filling mesmerizing to behold. Overall, Sovana Bistro delivered a stellar five-star experience, leaving guests eager to return. With its combination of exceptional cuisine, inviting ambiance, and attentive service, it's a culinary gem worth revisiting time and time again.
What a great 😊 place to visit for dining or just for wine 🍷! The inside of this place is beautiful! You just have to see for yourself. Our experience was awesome! Cathryn took great care of us and there is indoor and outdoor seating as well! ❤️
Excellent service, knowledgeable and friendly. Upscale bistro food in a casual setting. The homemade pastas are not to be missed and the tuna tartar with avacado is the best I've had. They also feature a wood fired pizza oven and great handcrafted cocktails. Specials are always seasonally themed. Kids menu is available, reservations are strongly recommended especially on the weekends.
Haven’t been since the reopening. And once again, one of my favorites. The food was amazeballs. Love my girlie nights with this amazing lady! TUNA TARTARE avocado, yuzu-ginger, shaved jalapeno, preserved orange & basil aioli CHÈVRE "CHAUD" hickory smoked almonds, pineapple & apricot mostarda, house-made sea salt crackers SQUID INK TAGLIATELLE baby shrimp, P.E.I mussels, calamari, salami toscano, chiles, tomato-lobster-white wine "brodetto" Short Ribs: Slow braised on a bed cauliflower and garlic mash purée. Roasted beets, potatoes and turnips. Finished with horseradish cream CINNAMON ROLL BREAD PUDDING philly cream cheese gelato, whiskey soaked pecan crumble LIQUID CENTER BUTTERSCOTCH CAKE vanilla bean ice cream Great staff ,fantastic food we’re so happy they reopened
Celebrated a birthday here and had a fabulous experience! From the hostesses to wait staff to bussers, everyone was professional and kind. The atmosphere was rustic, relaxed, cozy, yet classy. We had a bottle of local Wayvine red wine, shared 2 veggie pizzas (one Brussels and the other butternut squash), Mac and cheese, and fries for the table. All delicious! Plus they comped us the cinnamon bread pudding (amazing) for my birthday. Outstanding service. Highly recommend for special occasions or for a nice night out!
Fresh farm to table food, an open kitchen, a welcoming vibe, clean facilities, a fully vegan menu selection, and beautiful rustic decor.
Sovana Bistro offers a culinary experience right in your neighborhood. Coupled with staff that are friendly and well trained, you'd be surprised you're not eating at an establishment in the city. Go and visit, take your time and enjoy the flavors sure to delight the palate.
Our first time at Sovana Bistro definitely won't be the last! Exceptional service, with a great atmosphere. The food was wonderful across the board, ingredients, quality, and preparation. Highly recommend them, 5 star all the way!
We all loved our meal! I ordered a pizza and devoured it!
We weren’t sure what to expect when we pulled up. My husband chose this place for a date night-it was spot on. My only regret is that I couldn’t try more of the wonder options. We will be back! The Mezze board was amazing. The staff is very nice and attentive. Evan was a great server.
Our go to place for a date night, girls night out, or really for anything!! Their drinks are amazing and real cocktails using good ingredients and not mixers. They have the BEST desserts out there-the toffee Lava cake is amazing!!! Just a great atmosphere all around. We often go just for drinks and dessert and have a great time.
I wanted to order everything on the menu. And the beet salad and lamb bolonese fettuccine was absolutely over the top. Great service, great cocktails and very nice wine list. We drank a local Galer and it was delicious.
Food was good. Our server, Nick, was great. Had a wonderful time at brunch, and enjoyed the fantastic service.
Food was freshly made in-house ... including the pasta and ice cream. Excellent service and beautiful dining area. The strawberry tart was great, but the basil ice cream is an acquired taste ... I recommend vanilla ice cream with the strawberry tart.
June 2025 Update: Unfortunately, the squid ink pasta with seafood has been removed from the menu. Very disappointing :(
One of the best meals we’ve had. My steak was excellent. Service was awesome. Bartenders and manager were great too.
Simply stared: Fabulous! In every way. Jessica is a "1st round draft choice" as a host and barkeep....a real keeper! Happy Holidays happen here.
The food and service are amazing!! Flavors were stunning! There are lots of options for those with food challenges. The only downside in the dining room was the noise level. The Terrace is separated and clearly much quieter. This is lovely place to dine. Will return.
Amazing! I love Sovana Bistro and will continue to go there. The food is always delicious. Their appetizers are on the smaller side but are great quality. They have the lunch and dinner portion option for their pastas and the lunch portion is perfect for me. (Most people will probably want the dinner portion, I just get full quickly.) The cocktails are amazing and hit every time.
My husband and I stopped here on our way to Longwood Gardens and had a wonderful evening. We shared a few plates, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly, which truly elevated the experience. We’ll definitely be back!
My husband and I stopped by today for an early lunch and were greeted like celebrities. The two salads he ordered were beautiful and my butternut squash gnocchi were spectacular, as well as the lovely lavender Earl Grey loose tea in a BIG mug like I like it! Our waitress, whose name I do not remember was perfect: attentive, anticipating and approachable. We really appreciate how special the staff made us feel. It makes a difference.
Enjoy my meal here every time. I no longer live in the area but make a point of coming here anytime I’m back in town. The food is amazing and the service is always great too. The pizzas are fabulous and were available both gluten free and dairy free for a member of our group who has allergies. They were very conscientious of cross contamination in their kitchen too for allergies. Over the years we’ve enjoyed apps, cheese boards, salads, pizzas, entrees, and desserts here - you just can’t go wrong with anything you order! Make sure to grab a reservation on the weekends!
We chose Sovana Bistro to celebrate a family member's 70th birthday. Overall, the experience was great, with mostly hits and a couple of misses when it came to the food. Overall Ratings: Restaurant: (4/5) Service: (4/5) Food: (4/5) Parking: Free parking lot Atmosphere: The restaurant is visually impressive—clean, modern, and inviting. One major plus is that they can accommodate large groups, which many places struggle with. Service: Our server was excellent—friendly, prompt, and accommodating. However, one issue stood out: while gratuity for large groups was expected, we were not informed about the additional 5% credit card fee, which most restaurants typically absorb. Food (Hit or Miss) -- We ordered a variety of items, with mixed results: -Crispy Brussels Sprouts – Excellent -Kids' Pizza – Overpriced and below average -Potato Soup – Watery and lacking depth of flavor -Grilled Sea Bass – Delicious but small portion for the price -NY Steak Special – Great flavor, well-balanced sides Final Thoughts: Overall, we had a great experience and would return for special occasions. I appreciate that the menu changes seasonally, keeping things fresh. Looking forward to trying new dishes on our next visit!
4 of us went to Sovana’s Bistro to celebrate my 60th birthday,we had a 12:30 reservation we were greeted at the door by Brandon who had the most awesome personality and sang happy birthday as I was walking in . We were seated and our waiter was Nick and he was very attentive and knew any questions we asked, the atmosphere was very welcoming and warm. We all had different dishes which are labeled in the photos. These are my views on the food the crispy calamari could have had more calamari and less salad for the price the aioli and calamari were delicious, polenta was also very good but the “ potato latkes” were not a latkes it was a one inch thick shredded potato round with no seasoning lightly cooked to give it a fried appearance I don’t recommend them if you like latkes the apple compote on top was flavorful. I had the pappardelle with wild boar Ragu and I ordered a side of Fran’s meatballs which I thought would be 2 meatballs ( at$15) this dish was very good but it was hard to eat in the cereal size bowl it was served in, it does have a little heat in it so be aware. I also had the cinnamon roll bread pudding with ice cream , three other desserts were supposed to come with gelato but they didn’t have any gelato at all in-house which I thought they should have deducted that from their $12 desserts because gelato is much creamier than regular ice cream. But all in all this is a nice place to eat the staff is one of the best groups of people that I’ve ever encountered in a restaurant in my life they truly make it a unique experience 👍🏼
First time at Sovana. Enjoyed our lunch. Sandwich and soup special included a salad and dessert. French Toast was very tasty. Fast and friendly service.
Cheesesteaks and drinks Tuesday with Amigo Dan became Meatball pizza and drinks with Amigo Dan. Beautiful place and the bartender was awesome. Big young guy. Professional, knowledgeable, helpful and cutoff the patron that apparently had too much to drink. The drinks were tasty. $20 for a 10 inch meatball pizza that had a soaky crust was highly overpriced. The pizza tasted good but in my video you can see the crust has no structure.
We had a delicious lunch here! Fran's meatballs, mushrooms and short rib tacos were all amazing! If you like your food with no spice don't get the tacos. They were a perfect heat for someone who likes heat, like me!
Sovana Bistro is a great venue for a small party. I was there years ago for a bridal shower and recently for a baby shower. The private room we were in was comfortable and bright even on a rainy day. Guests were seated at long tables, and food was on a buffet table.
The food here was delicious! We ordered a bunch of different kinds of food to try a little bit of each. Here's we ordered and our thoughts. Old Fashioned - my husband ordered this and he said it was pretty good except for was too sweet. Appetizers: The SOVANA "MEZZE"- chic pea hummus, grilled baby carrots & asparagus, preserved artichokes, house made pita.... Thoughts- this dish specifically is what caused the loss of a star. We are thinking "grilled veggies" like the menu said. What you actually get is tempura style deep fried carrots and instead of asparagus it's zucchini. Now was this good? Yes, but the description is misleading. EGGPLANT TART tomato conserva, basil, locatelli cheese Reminded us of an eggplant lasagna. A tad bit on the sweet side. Don't think I would order this next time. BREAD BOARD rosemary & fennel seed foccocia, olive oil, roasted garlic, calabrian chili and tomato "jam" We enjoyed this bread and the jams. CHOPPED ROMAINE CAESAR fermented- garlic crusted croutons, shaved parmesan My husband really enjoyed his Caesar salad. The very large slice of thin crispy bread on top was so good! HARISSA ROASTED BEETS arugula, radicchio, spiced walnuts, roasted fennel & pistachio goat cheese "truffles", blood orange-ginger vinaigrette. Really enjoyed the salad! I would get it again FUNGO EPICO wood fired pizza roasted wild mushrooms, fontina, thyme, arugula, black truffle vinaigrette If you like mushrooms get this! The combination with the taste of truffles on this pizza makes it absolutely delicious. *** THE BEST FOR LAST*** CINNAMON ROLL BREAD PUDDING philly cream cheese gelato, whiskey soaked pecan crumble This was our absolute favorite dessert we have had!! You can't go wrong with Philadelphia cream cheese gelato and whiskey soaked bread. So bad but soooo good!! All around it would definitely come back here again and try other items on the menu. Highly recommend this restaurant!!
I want to believe this place deserves a better review but unfortunately I ordered more than just a couple cocktails. Drinks were great. BUT… my appetizer never came out, and I was so looking forward to the tuna tartare. Burger was mediocre for $20(I’ll take 5 Guys any day). Not sure why the bun was so greasy. Lucky for me, I forgot the gift card I was given for here, so I have no option but to come back.
I have been a patron of SB for over 20 years. This past week, I was in town and had dinner there on Thursday and Friday nights, but our meals were inconsistent. The tuna tartare was delicious as always. The pork entree was too salty to eat and the pasta too spicy. The servers didn't notice we only had a couple of bites of the entrees as they were so busy and we didn't want to add to their busy evening. The next evening we did appetizers that were ok. Not the usual SB quality.
We live two minutes away, so we really want to like this place. We had issues the first two times and this was our third try. This time, we had a real hard time with the service. We were completely finished our appetizers before the server even took our dinner order. It was really hard eating an appetizer with menus in our laps. When we ordered another round of drinks, the server completely forgot and we were waiting for more than 25 minutes. The server never came to check on us. It was really difficult to find. Items on our check were wrong, but we just paid cash to get out of there. Lastly, there were little black bugs flying in our faces. We think they were. The mushroom flies from the nearby mushroom farms. It just isn’t worth the exceptionally high prices. A Caesar salad appetizer for example, is $17 plain and $28 with chicken added. Another example is if you want one single egg added to a burger it’s an up charge of four dollars. That must be one crazy good egg….. And finally, I tend to avoid restaurants that add-on surcharge to use a credit card. This is a trend that needs to stop.
Table for 2 literally on top of another 4 top table. Sat 20 mins after reservation time, menu has barely changed in 20 years. Server was the highlight. Attentive, gave great advice, checked back. Just not the same quality it used to be. Also, for a restaurant this size 2 single restrooms near the bar is absurd.
Please do NOT spend your money here the food tasted like I licked a foot, $75 for 2 bowls of pasta? Okay, shoulda got the Burger King SpongeBob meal my taste buds are so unsatisfied no flavor had to add some slap ya momma when I got home, I was looking to chow down and I was gravely disappointed😔my pockets hurting from getting 2 plates of pasta if u wanna go home satisfied and not have moths flying out of your wallet do not go here.
