Every time I come it's the best, very friendly people and a nice view I love China city
The food here is always good. Best Chinese we've had.
Tasty Chinese! Never disappoints. We always order from here when we are in Lake Placid.
My friends and I had the best Chinese food of our life here after a very long hike.
Got the spicy shrimp dish and fried scallops! Both hit the spot. Would recommend dipping the scallops in the sauce from the spicy shrimp (I Personally prefer less creamy sauce and the sauce on the spicy shrimp slaps!!)
Great chinese food, some dishes even taste fairly authentic to what I had when I lived in china. We're regulars. Thank God we can get some good chinese food in the Adirondacks!
Great fresh Chinese food. Good amount of vegetables and great tasting sauce. Will be going again when back in LP
I used to come here every summer on days off from camp, and I have to come here every time, the portions are huge and the quality is fantastic
I ordered food through Door dash app and the food arrived to my room in less than 30 minutes. The food is excellent!! Woohoo 😋
Good fast food style Chinese food. Definitely better than the average take out place and prices are great.
The crab rangoons and chicken pad thai are amazing. The service is fast if you call ahead
Good food, predictable quality and taste. Exactly what we were looking for. Great prices for the area!
Good food good price. In fact the most affordable dinner anyone can have in lake placid! 🙂
Great pepper beef and rice and fast service definitely recommend
Amazing food. I got the Shredded Chicken Szechuan Style, Hunan Chicken, Mongolian beef and Hot and Sour Soup. Everything was delicious. Run authentically. Not overloaded with sugar.
I was blown away by the diversity of what Asian dishes were offered and how delicious it was. Well done China City! Singapore noodles was one of our favorites!
Great place. Came here with some buddies for food after a long day of dayhiking. Ordering was usual, and the waiting time for our food was short. Our food was even delivered to out table! The restaurant has a clean restroom. The asthetics are awesome. There's a huge mural and the furniture just give out nice vibes.
Favorite NYC style chinese restaurant. Best crab rangoons around. Delivery is usually unavailable to most typical sized orders, but they will cater lunches snd dinners with a minimal purchase required for delivery to be arranged. Easy enough to do take out. They have been a staple of main st lake placid for years and years. A decade plus. Thanks guys for all you do to keep us full.
Friendly staff and quick service. I asked for extra beef in one dish and extra shrimp in another and they didn't disappoint!! Food was fresh, hot and made to order. A++
Good food. They whipped up a veggie friedrice with egg real quick and tasted amazing. Add some hot sauce if you want to spice it up.
Kind people and lovely aesthetic. Best Chinese food I've ever eaten. Not usually too busy so seating and service is quick. Wholesome family 10/10
Excellent. The food was amazing. They were able to make us a wonderful meal on Christmas Day and it was amazing! The food is really good and I highly recommend this establishment!
got their beef lo mien while on vacation. compared to the places back home their food has a lot of flavor! great amount of food for what you pay.
Delicious food, friendly staff! Had a large party visiting lake placid and needed a big order for dinner- everything came out fantastic!!!! 10/5 stars!!! Thank you!!!
I've had Chinese food in NYC, I've had it down in Virginia, and Florida... I've eaten American Chinese and authentic Chinese food... ordered it as far west as Arizona.... this was the best chicken and broccoli I've ever had. The wait was a little longer than I'm used to but worth it twice over! And I love that you can watch them cook!
The place to go after hiking the ADK. Ridiculously good food and budget prices compared to the insane price gouging of the surrounding resturants on the main road. Sesame chicken was great!!
Despite the absurdly long wait time to pick up my food(40-50 minutes) the food was very good. We had the seaseme chicken and general tso’s
I appreciate a quick, no fuss and tasty Chinese take out place like China city post a long day of hiking and exploring in the Adirondack’s. I’m vegetarian and this was the best option for me in this town. Their food is good and the have a lot of options. I loved the pad thai, tofu with vegetables, singapore noodles and hot and sour soup. This establishment was comfort food and hit the spot after my 11 mile hike. Recommend!!
Really good Chinese food. Definitely returning. Exactly how I was hoping it would all taste and even was made quickly. Only complaint? Fried rice is a little too tasteless for my liking.
This is actually one of the best Chinese take-out style places I've been to. The food is flavorful and has just the right amount of salt, msg, and cornstarch. Recommend the Hunan chicken. After a long day of hiking, China City will really hit the spot. I came here every single day I was at Lake Placid.
We visit Lake Placid every year. One of our first dinner stops is China City. We are talking about ten years. Love the variety and the care that that they prepare your order!
Came here on the 4th of July expecting to have to wait a while, but was pleasantly surprised that we got our food ordered and it arrived quickly! Was hot and delicious and service was very kind. :)
My Speedskating club went to Lake Placid for national age group championships. We ordered lunch from China City for coaches and families. The food are awesome! Gong Bao Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, Egg Drop Soup, Mongolian Beef are so good, we ordered from China City for consecutive days! Highly recommended!
We ordered veggie lo mein and a pint of white rice for our picky toddler. I was expecting it to be greasy and bland but was shocked it was the opposite. Noodles are not greasy and seasoned really well! We will be ordering again from this spot!
Was here with my children, ordered China city and was pleasantly surprised with how well the food was. I would eat here if I was visiting again.
The service and food quality was very good. Nice people. Yummy garlic chicken and terriyaki chicken on a stick. We are in town for business and tried out this delivery Chinese restaurant. You never know what to expect from a local place in a rural area, but this place is excellent!!!
Not very attractive dining room, but their food is very tasty! My favorite vegetarian options include sesame tofu, general twos tofu, moo shoo gai pan (mushroom, cabbage, hoisin mixture with rice wraps), and veggie fried rice. Their menu is extensive so I’m sure you could find something you’d like. Take out is super fast, usually 10-20 min tops.
Great place, great atmosphere, great people, great food. We travel alot everywhere and get chinese food and i have to say this place hands down one of the BEST chinese I've had! The crab Rangoon is perfect the right mixture, the chicken fried rice is the best.
We knew by the way the place looks that the food would be delicious! You might call it a "dive". There are tables inside, but unless you don't have somewhere to take your food to for eating, I wouldn't eat in. It's dark, a little noisy, and you'd be sitting near the storage area. The food though! So good! When we ordered, we were told how long, so we went for a walk. We got back a little too soon and watched the impressive scene of the employees cooking and handling customers. Timing was pretty accurate. Staff was super friendly. Prices are some of the best in this area. 10/10 WILL go there again!
Great food, especially for days where you don't want to cook, and it's relatively cheap
It was super late and my family and I were hungry and spur of the moment decided to get food from here… and let me add, my husband does not usually care for Chinese food… but they did not disappoint. Probably the best Chinese food I’ve ever had to be honest. Will definitely come back here again.
Was driving around looking for food and couldn’t really decide on much and I came across this place and it’s great, food is excellent I normally am skeptical at Chinese places I don’t know but it’s great here!! Deff recommend. Very nice people
Always great food and service! Hard to pick a favorite dish
They served a fantastic young chow fried rice (chicken, shrimp, bbq pork) with egg - delicious, and served hot and fresh, ingredients felt fresh, it was better than some takeout fried rice in nyc. The staff at China City are helpful and friendly. It was great to have hot food on a cold night!
It was later in the evening and we were craving some quick food and did not want to sit down at a formal restaurant. Don't let appearances fool you. So this place is near the end or at the beginning of the main strip, depending where you start. I walked in and was little nervous. I looked around and saw some tables in the skinny dining area, menus off to the side and a window pane glass to the right with someone standing there and some cooks going to town cooking with the woks. I stood there for awhile and watched and was really curious and impressed. I have to give this place a shot. So you place your orders on the paper menus on the right, put your name on it and give it to the person behind the glass pane. (my order was to go, it may be different for dining in) The gentleman who was there confirmed my order and was very nice. Told me about how long it would take. (It was an appropriate time, seemed little long, but would be more concerned if it was too quick). I wish I had pictures of the food, it was delicious. Got the shrimp lo mein. It was packed in one of the little to go folding boxes, the fried wontons were great (kids loved them), hot and sour soup (could have been little thicker consistency), and Szechuan chicken (good). We were hungry, so at first was like it was so good because we were hungry. I went back the next day for lunch and it was same quality food. You can even watch the cooks cook the food on the flaming woks back there. Reasonable priced, great food. Just make sure to check your order. Staff was pleasant when I was there.
Fast service, great food at good prices; highly recommend if you are in town!
This is one of a few (if not the only) Chinese place around this area. Regardless, they are not skimping on quality. We came in to get chicken with vegetables, but I was also craving some chicken wings. Well, coming from a Brooklyn native: these chicken wings are 10/10 good. Very crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and flavorful all over.
We did not eat-in so I cannot fairly rate the "atmosphere." I am always skeptical of a Chinese restaurant in s strip mall/on the main drag, however, China City is an exception. We walked in, placed our order, walked out 15/20 minutes later and went home to have the most delicious Chinese meal ever!!! The steamed dumplings, the Family Shrimp and chicken fried rice were delicious and filling! Enjoying a take out meal, with our own alcohol preferences, made it an affordable and convenient dinner, with leftovers for lunch tomorrow!!!
Nothing special about this place, but wasn't dissatisfied with anything. Friendly people and food was ready for pickup in a timely manner
We were able to get vegan food there. And the tofu was delicious 😋
We liked our order: chicken fried rice, chicken chopseuy and soup
Amazing food at a great price! The General Tso/Tao’s chicken and pad Thai were the best I’ve ever had! Storefront wasn’t the most appealing, but overall a great restaurant. Highly recommend!
It's pretty good, but it takes a while for food to be ready, the price is reasonable, and I can't really complain about this take out spot, 4/5 stars overall
Nice little take-out place with a long list of options and healthy ones too. Quite vegetarian friendly too. We got three dishes, a hot and sour soup, vegetable lo mein and vegetables with hot garlic sauce. All were great and were the food portions are ample.
My preferred Chinese takeout in the high peaks. Better than the offerings in Saranac Lake, though definitely pricier, else I'd have given 5 stars. Their Pad Thai isn't bad at all, and they have vegetarian options.
Great for lunch but they need to change their frying oil on a regular basis
It wasn't as great as what I am used to with chinese restaurant in nyc
Mediocre Chinese. Probably the best in lake placid, but not great. Food was good. But nothing exciting.
Tolerable for north country Chinese cuisine but there is better in Saranac Lake eg. China Jade, never the less if in a pinch a good place for a bite before the movie across the street
Food was fine. Price was fine. A little surprised that for a takeout order, we got no napkins, condiments or forks 😕
Food was pretty good. I was told only white rice... no brown rice or pork fried rice. Kinda never heard that from a Chinese restaurant
Food is decent. Cooked differently than what I was used to from other Chinese take out spots. Lots of sauces are used.
Number 1 Chinese Restaurant is better in Saranac-Lake but these guys seem to improve over time hopefully one day it would be a great place.
Typical Chinese restaurant, usually quick service, crab rangoons are very good. Parking on street can be a nightmare on busy weekends. Only grief I have is they can't accept local Community Bank Debit cards, been like this for a long time now and they still haven't fixed it, I'd imagine it would take one call to their credit card service company to get new machine. It's a pain to have to put the food on a credit card.
Their "vegetables" was mostly big chunks of onions Stick to the medium priced entrees.....The higher priced entrees had the same amount of premium ingredients (like shrimp & meats)
Was a simple Chinese food. Nothing great about the place. Food taste avg, portions were pretty good, not many veggie options though, in case anyone expecting one. Not too pricey. They have a decent seating area but, we decided to takeout. They gave plates, spoons, forks for convenience
Food is great to me, (chicken noodle soup, rice.) it was delicious, but not much noodle, more of the broth. Other then that, I remember last year waiting for Ben and Jerry’s and I see a guy walking with a big pan of chicken, and it looked off. Not very appetizing. I’m not sure if it’s fresh, but I wouldn’t suggest eating here.
Food was really good until I found a piece of steel wool about an inch big in my beef and broccoli combo plate. :( not gonna complain because I feel it will be kinda worthless but wanted to share this so others can keep an eye on the food. Other than that foods taste was on point and it was ready quickly.
I am giving a three because the staff was so friendly and it was inexpensive. The food had no flavor , it was well cooked just wasn’t any flavor. I ordered beef and broccoli and egg roll. The fried rice was ok.
There's no dine in. The staff was very nice and the food was done pretty quickly. Not really anywhere to wait though. Maybe the best you'll get in lake placid, but not the best Chinese food. I was underwhelmed by everything I got. But it was all edible. Not the worst if you need a Chinese food fix or quick takeout. And it is one of the more affordable things in lake placid.
This is a typical Chinese take out restaurant with a few tables for those that decide to eat in. The service was quick and I enjoyed seeing the chefs making the food behind the glass. The fried rice and egg rolls were very quick. The general tsos was pretty good, but the chicken with broccoli was lacking in flavor. We would go back again and try a new dish!
We ordered a variety of dishes, including a broccoli and “crab legs” dish. I’ll be honest: overall, the food was just okay. Nothing was terrible, but nothing stood out either. We’ve definitely had better Chinese food in the past—flavor-wise, it wasn’t anything to brag about. The main issue was the crab dish. The menu clearly states crab legs, but what was served was imitation crab. Imitation crab is not crab legs - When we went back to ask the staff what kind of crab it was, the response was basically, “Everyone knows it’s imitation crab.” No effort was made to acknowledge the issue or offer anything in return, which was disappointing. Had the menu stated imitation crab, we would not have ordered it—especially considering it was the most expensive dish we got. Our total bill came to about $70 USD, and imitation crab is not what we were looking for at that price point. Listing it as crab legs is misleading and not fair to customers. Another small but noticeable issue: all the food was brought out on shared plates. Since we were eating as a family, we had to ask for side plates. Little details like that matter. Because of the misleading menu item and the lack of care when we raised the concern, I’m giving this place 3 stars.
I asked for the Kung Lao chicken spicy. It came bland. What little chicken there was had been chopped so small that it got lost in the large chunks of vegetables. Why be so skimpy with the chicken???
Beef and broccoli was all broccoli and the beef was gross. A waste of 20 dollar
We were walking by looking for a place to eat and stumbled across China City restaurant. We ordered fried rice and a sweet and sour chicken dish and the quality was very poor!
Not great food Ordered kung pao chicken and you need to search for chicken in it Ordered chicken fried rice, poor taste and not spicy as I asked specifically
We ordered basic stuff, wonton soups, Orange Chicken for my son and General Tso’s chicken for me. The soup tasted good but the wonton skins were so thick and too doughy for me. The Orange and General Tso’s chicken looked and tasted almost the same except that the Orange chicken had some Orange peel bits in it. Most of the chicken pieces were so tough that my son refused to eat them. I tried to eat as much as I could as I hate to waste foods well, I only could eat 1/4 of it.
I go here after many hikes in the area and usually have a good experience. Today, we ordered and the portion sizes were all wrong, and the food tasted terrible for both of our meals. Pretty disappointed.
We ordered two mixed vegetables with brown sauce only. However the brown sauce turns out to be like spots of jelly, which the kids didn't eat at all. If such a simple dish can be that bad then I don’t want any more stars for this place.
This is as bad as it gets! We were really craving some Chinese food, and was like “how bad can it be?” And it was bad. Not only we ended up waiting for 1 hr for our food (even had called in the order), if it wasn’t for Us being so hungry, I don’t think anyone of us would have eaten the food. The sesame chicken was soggy, the chicken broccoli was dry, hot and sour soup was sweet!! Nothing was good! Definitely would suggest all the stay away!
I was looking for a cheap and quick lunch. The pizzeria I was planning to go to was closed, so I ended up here. The young lady at the cash seemed annoyed to have a customer. She was really unpleasant. Zero for atmosphere in there, and blasting the AC... in April. Judging by the boxes of ingredients piled up in the dining area, it's obvious they're buying the cheapest, least healthy vegetable oils available. The serving size of the lunch special was just barely enough. I'll never go back.
The food was not cooked properly, the service was terrible, and the establishment did not even provide the appropriate utensils.
Ordered food. Delivered wrong food. Denied any role and made zero attempt to correct.
DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU HAVE A NUT ALLERGY. The kitchen was very careful in preparing a dish with no nuts. However, once the plates were placed on the table and the customers asked to confirm no nuts before consuming, they gave the customers extremely mixed messages. As a result, the customers did not consume their meal because they were scared of the possibility nuts were present (understandably so, as the allergy would have put a child into anaphylactic shock). Then, when asking the restaurant for a refund of the one dish, they gave me an EXTREMELY difficult time and wound up giving me what they called a "donation" (an amount of money of their choice) not the price of the dish that was ordered.
I got chicken wings and chicken fried rice and let’s start off the wings were half done and a little raw. The fried rice had zero taste to it. The chicken and broccoli was super oily. Wings with fried rice $16 that’s insane.
Half edible chicken with broccoli for $20. Great deal!
Don't order door dash - 2.5hr still no food. Called restaurant and told doordash did not pick up food. And don't come pick up. Poor service...
Place is DISGUSTING! Food was just ok but they forgot an item. When I called all of a sudden NO ENGLISH. Spoke pretty good when I was there. Told me to come back tomorrow. I told him I was leaving in the morning. He ripped me off.
Prices online are about half what I was charged. Forgot multiple items. Not sure what happened to this place. I changed from a 5 star to a 1 star. Be better. Local who won’t be back.
We ordered delivery to our hotel and it took roughly two hours for it to arrive. We selected the hand it to us option because it was raining and cold and they knocked and left it at our door step. When we opened the bag our food was hot and order correct however there was no utensils in the bag or napkins! Very Disappointing considering the price and how long it took to be delivered. 😑
I’m sorry…the food was awful. Very small portions and no flavor.
Called asked for help. Dine dash or nothing. Asked for sesame chicken. Told me I had to order a different dish a sub what I want.?????? Or ha sesame like all the other 50k. Restaurants in this country but you.
I ordered 4 things off of the menu and my total was just under $50. I was charged for items I did not order. As you can see by the photos, I ordered 4 items. They mistakenly marked another item and charged me for it. Even worse, our actual order was only 32.75 before tax. I payed 49.68. For 4 items (2 dishes 2 sides). Where did that last $17 mysteriously come from? Is each fortune cookie now $10 each?! I feel ripped off and disappointed. At least they are quick to make the food, but it’s not even worth the price. From now on, it’d be great to see an itemized receipt for all purchases. I feel robbed, honestly.
Got food from here during our visit to lake placid. While the food was below average, the worst was the attitude and professionalism of the girl at the counter. Not only was she not friendly at all, she was yelling, actually yelling, at an uber driver who asked her how long will it be until food is ready. Will not return to this restaurant.
Ordered two fried chickens to go, asked for some extra chopsticks and willing to pay extra for them. They charged us $6.5 for 12 chopsticks (Without any notification/communication w us, the charge just came through online ordering system - since now I saw their response - like online ordering has a button for “decline”) (See the snip for how much these chopsticks cost in Amazon - only $0.05/pair!!! I get it - you can charge me twice of the cost, but not 10x!!!) So we had some very mid fried chickens and the most expensive chopsticks. They just want to squeeze as much money as possible out of tourists and don’t care about repeat customers. And as I saw their responses, they recommended me to purchase “more affordable” utensils from other stores, so you can tell apparently they wanna make a fortune from utensils than other stores.
