Food was delicious. The cheif was excellent.
I called earlier in the week to setup a reservation for a large team dinner before a basketball game. I spoke to Lou who was great to work with. We had about 56 people that evening and he assured us he could accommodate that many people. We arrived at our reservation time and only had to wait a few minutes for the tables to clear. They gave us the whole upper dining room, basically 4 hibachi tables. Everything was fantastic! Service, food and experience. The team and parent had so much fun that evening. I cant thank Lou and the team at Koto for taking great care of us. We will be back again!
Very pleasant experience. Funny, respectful and helpful staff. Family friendly atmosphere. Will come again.
The food was delicious and the staff were very kind. They were super busy which made it hard for them to remember all the special requests at the table. We still got our whole meal and everything we needed. The chef looked a little disheveled and may have gotten in a fight with his cooking tools before our visit. The show was still great and the food was even better. I'll be back for more sooner than later.
We are here from out of town, and have been wanting to try this place. We were so pleasantly surprised. The food was outstanding from start to finish. The restaurant is clean and the service was excellent. We will definitely be back!
I've been to many an Hibachi steak houses and I have to say this is one of the best kept secrets . The prices are reasonable as far as Hibachi restaurants are concerned, the food choices are well numbered , but the portions are extremely generous. I've never been so full after an Hibachi meal. The chef was excellent and entertaining. He was able to engage the whole table and keep us focused. If i had one minor complaint it would be the fried rice needed more ingredients in them. The rice tasted hibachi style nut maybe needed another egg or two. Otherwise it was a great experience. The atmosphere was very Japanese like. They even had a bridge built over a koi pond which was very cool. All in all Koto was a fantastic experience. Come hungry! You'll leave full and wanting to go back in the near future.
Wonderful Dinner, staff were friendly and kind. I was there for a birthday party. Delicious food, clean accommodations. The gps location needs to be corrected on Google maps though. Very hard to find in the dark.
Very friendly staff and chef was great!
It's one of the reliable and welcoming places near Albany Airport. Appetizers are great and plenty to choose from. The a-la-cart menu for a calm setting in the side room. A hibachi tables are full of action! Sushi rolls are well thought through and very nicely done. We always take roll of the day, in addition to our other favorites.
Had great service and enjoyed my meal. Very nice restaurant with a beautiful scenery.
Fun, and delish❤️ serving sizes are huge at the hibachi table
I thoroughly enjoyed the Hibachi Chicken & Scallops, along with Soup, Salad, Rice, Noodles & Veggies, not to mention the “entertainment” provided by the chef. The server provided excellent service as well. The restaurant was a short walk from my hotel (Trilogy), so I walked back that same evening and enjoyed pan-Fried Dumplings while seated at the bar. Service was once again excellent, as was the food. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will most definitely return if vs when my future travels should bring me to this area.
Our favorite restaurant in Albany. Consistently great food and service and everyone we invite says the same.
This is One of my favorite Sushi 🍣 spots I recommend this place 💯
I was there for sushi, which is always great. Just seemed like the hibachi tables were really loud that night. Made it hard to have a conversation. But still love the place!
We have been coming here for years. We moved away and came back and we are glad the quality is still there. Sometimes sushi is an afterthought at a steakhouse. The rolls are creative and delicious. They also have many different options for hot and cold appetizers and entrees. The service is also prompt and friendly. And my kids love the live koi
Stopped in before my flight for a quick bit. Wonderful, friendly service and good food. I would definitely go again!
I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Koto! We went for our son's 9th birthday dinner because it was across the street from the hotel we were staying in and I could not be happier we chose this restaurant. From beginning to end they made it a special experience for my son, the meal was definitely all about him and he had the best time! The chef took a lot of extra time and care to make everything birthday themed from the fried rice birthday cake with a lemon candle for him to blow out to the extra special crown he blew up for the birthday boy. The waitress was wonderful and very attentive to our needs and the hostess took a wonderful picture for us in a nice Koto frame to take home which was a cool surprise and I know he will cherish for a long time. 10 out of 10 would recommend, the food was great! My son devoured the entire order of tempura chicken and said they were the best "chicken tenders" he has ever had! Lol
Great food and drinks! Plentiful portions and reasonable prices. Fun chef for hibachi dinner.
We had such a great time, food was good but as always way too much, I have meals for 3 days
As always an absolute pleasure 😊 Koto is our favorite spot for sushi. Casual atmosphere with a great menu and excellent service. The California roll is a classic choice, but there are also more adventurous options like the Dragon roll or the Rainbow roll. If you're not a fan of sushi, we also enjoy a number of other dishes, such as teriyaki, tempura, and udon. The hibachi at Koto is a blast. The chefs cook your food right in front of you, using their skills to create a dazzling show. The hibachi dishes are also very flavorful. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is fun. I'm gluten free and they have great options. Overall, I would recommend Koto Japanese Restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and fun Japanese meal in Albany.
The creation of the meals, done Hibachi-style, was very entertaining! It was also delicious! Lots of food...half of us took some home because we couldn't eat it all. I will go back before too long.
Excellent place to have a great food and a great time. The food taste amazing and the hibachi show definitely keep us entertained. I highly recommend this place to anyone!
Service was great, table was cleared and drinks refilled when necessary. Food tasted awesome will be going back again the next time I'm in the area.
Koto is a great hibachi restaurant that delivers a great dining experience from start to finish. The seafood is fresh and flavorful, the steak is perfectly cooked, and the appetizers set the tone for a delicious meal. The hibachi chefs put on an entertaining show right at the table — full of skill, energy, and fun interaction that keeps everyone smiling. Everything comes together beautifully: good food, great service, and an enjoyable atmosphere. Whether you’re there for a family dinner, a night out with friends, or a special occasion, Kodo makes it memorable. Definitely worth stopping by if you enjoy quality hibachi with both taste and entertainment.
We had a great time! My son wanted hibachi for his birthday dinner and Koto didn't disappoint. The food was great, portions were generous, and our hibachi chef was hilarious.
Delicious fresh food and such a fun hibachi experience! The chefs make it entertaining while serving up amazing dinners. Perfect for a date or family night out!
The Koto Experience...Koto!! We had a great time going to try it for the first time. We had wanted to do hibachi at the table but wanted to sit alone, and they were very accommodating for that. We were still able to order whatever we wanted and it was delicious 😋. We tried some sushi as well as had the hibachi. I felt like the fattest kid in the best place on earth!! Bring on all the foods, you know me by now I love to EAT EAT EAT! If you are looking for great food, great atmosphere, fire drinks and great staff, bring that you know what to Koto.. tell em Vin Vin sent you ... Im trying to see something! Until next time, Deuces. Vin Vin
We went for dinner at a regular table. The real draw here is the Hibachi cook tables. It's a really fun dining experience. Both entertainment and a meal! But with limited time we had a table service with General Tsoa (sp) chicken and Hibachi Chicken. Both excellent. Update: Been some time since we have dined here. Sesame chicken along with spring rolls salad and soup. Yum.
We came here on a Monday evening. We were promptly seated and ordered a bottle of sake and then placed our sushi order Our love boat for 2 came with salad, and soup which was served promptly after we ordered. My husband, who is typically put off by too much ginger, enjoyed his salad (much to my dismay! I was hoping to double up on their delicious salad dressing). Just as we finished it our sushi boat arrived. As usual all of the sushi was delicious, however, it wasnt as beautiful as in the past. For dessert we tried the peanut butter cake and green tea ice cream. Compared to my previous review a few years ago, this visit wasn't as impressive. There is a lot of local competition with better prices, luclily for Koto they're the only sushi place open on a monday!
Sat at the bar and had Lous as my bartender. He was great! Very friendly, didn't rush me and gave me suggestions on what to get. Food was excellent and came out in good time. If you get to this place sit at the bar and ask for Lous! Spicy seafood soup, salmon carpaccio and a sushi roll no rice.
This is a great place. I really recommend doing the whole hibachi thing. They are super nice there and the hibachi is awesome. I had the chicken and my wife had the scallops. I have to say, the scallops are well worth it - in both quality and the quantity. Our friends got the filet mignon, which they said "was like butter" and they loved it. Overall, really awesome and would totally go back!
Great food and atmosphere. The sushi was super fresh. We tried all kinds of new things, including black caviar sushi, which was amazing. Great place for large groups. It might be a bit overwhelming for younger kids. It definitely gets loud inside when the chefs are cooking, doing their thing. Absolutely a must try. Be warned, it can get expensive fast.
The decor is fabulous, cocktails were good but service was a tad slow. Both my partner and I ordered our entrees with spice (we like everything spicy) mine came out with 0 spice and while his came out super spicy (he loved it) but I wish mine came out with some heat too but it was still pretty good.
The service was great and I had sushi which was delicious. The person I was with ordered the hibachi chicken which was room temperature. Overall was a good experience
We went in for the hibachi experience. We were 4 of us and to be able to sit on the hibachi table, atleast 3 of us have to order the hibachi dinner. We wish we had a choice to order other food but still sit with other family members who wanted the hibachi experience. It was a lot of food for 3 and was sad that we had to waste. Service - 4/5 Food - 3/5 Parking - Available Food -
A good restaurant! Food could have been a little more flavorful. Service was exceptional, the staff was really nice. We enjoyed our family dinner at the hibachi. Would go back there again. Lot of parking available
Excellent dinner after a long day of driving. The manager even helped us make a decision for table service and not hibachi. Hibachi would have been fun, but our brains were cooked. Really enjoyed it.
Delicious food cooked right in front of you! Chef was a lot of fun and very skilled. A little too much oil, but otherwise very good. Portions were very generous. Food allergy warning: They do use butter on the noodles, and then cook the veggies and meat after. If you have dairy allergies, make sure to specify so they can cook yours without butter and not cook your vegetables/meat nearby the buttered noodles.
Good food and good fun for hibachi! Staff were friendly and attentive. The chef was amazing, very interactive, and very particular how to handle a guest with a food allergy. The inside of the restaurant is AMAZING to look at, including the fish in the water as you walk in! The price point is great as well!
The food was pretty good. The scallops were excellent in itself. Decent, comfortable atmosphere. I may have visited on an understaffed day, because it took a while to get a hibachi chef to start cooking. However, the wait wasn't long to be seated, and once the chef showed, the show was good, and the food was good as well.
Really good food, great prices but not the greatest hibachi experience in the area. Service was ordinary, nothing to brag about. Obviously this is all based on one visit but I wouldn't recommend it for entertainment, it's more for a quiet dinner. This place has great potential. I'll revisit it sometime later in the year to see what my thoughts are then.
They added noodles to the hibachi menu, which was new and a great addition. Noodles, rice, and filet were great. I always get the Manhattan Special sushi as an appetizer always spot on. For hibachi I always get the filet and salmon combo, the salmon unfortunately was very fishy, not edible, couldn't finish it, must have just been a bad batch, it's always been good in my previous visits.
Celebrating my receiving a grade A for Commercial Kitchen.
Came for lunch on a Sunday with my son and we were seated right away. My son loved the water feature with large koi fish and getting to cross over the bridge. They do not offer lunch menu on Sundays fyi. We shared the miso soup, house salad, rock shrimp, Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna roll and California roll. All the food was fresh and delicious. My son’s highlight was the rock shrimp which had a sweet sauce with it and I loved most the spicy tuna roll. I took 1 star because our waitress didn’t check on us until we were done eating and I had to ask for a water refill. Otherwise would recommend and return to try more!
I’ll get this out of the way: Koto is one of my favorite restaurants in the Capital Region. The food is consistent, the servers are attentive to the table and go above and beyond, and the decor is aging, but still beautiful. It’s expensive but worth it. I had: $33 Filet Minton and a $7ish mojito (I can’t find it on their menu currently). The drinks range from $5-$9). The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, the vegetables had a nice snap but were still well cooked. The fried rice and miso were both great. The mojito wasn’t the best I have had. It tasted like it was made with sprite? It was odd, but not bad. I think for the price point they could’ve added some more quality into the mojito (maybe that’s why I can’t find it on their menu). The portions are generous and we had leftovers for a few days. Koto was well staffed and our waitress was in sight for the majority of our meal. She was kind and attentive. She answered my questions and directed me to some items on the menu. She also put our leftovers in the boxes for us. The menu is confusing. Not only was I inundated with options but the options available were named oddly and/or the descriptions aren’t all-inclusive. For example, I expected the usual generous helping of meat with a side of fried rice, a side of vegetables, soup, and salad. What I received was some cut up meat tossed with vegetables, soup, salad and no rice. It was difficult to determine how much steak I received. I found myself searching for more of it. Overall, I recommend Koto. I suggest taking your time to read the menu and understand what you’re ordering. Bring your appetite.
Koto was packed on Saturday evening, but their staff kept things moving. We sat at a hibachi table, but I did not partake. Ordering off their Koto's menu I had a great meal. My Tom Yum Udon Noodle Soup with chicken was filling and very tasty. The Salmon on the Beach was savory and enjoyed by all. Koto's Sauteed Seafood Udon was another delicious offering. The Tom Yum and Seafood Udon had ample to go boxes. All my selections were served at the hibachi table. A very good meal.
Recently had dinner here for a sit down, not the hibachi. I've had the hibachi before and it was always excellent. This time we went for a regular sit down. Drinks were excellent, food was another story. We ordered the Pork Xiao Long Boa and Beef Negimaki for appetizers. The Pork Xiao was excellent, the Beef had absolutely no taste. One in our party ordered a sushi roll (can't remember which one) but said it was excellent and also ordered the Garlic Noodle and said it was disappointing. One ordered the Pad Thai and said it was good. I and another ordered the Chicken Teriyaki. It was 2 chicken breasts sautéed on a bed of scallions and corn with a little bit of some type of sauce drizzled over. The chicken was not marinated so it was just plain sautéed chicken. the sauce had absolutely no flavor. We seriously couldn't even tell it was supposed to be teriyaki. Wish I had taken a picture, but just imagine a plate of white food, that's what it looked like and tasted like. Disappointed with the sit down, next time I'll stick with the hibachi.
Fair experience. Sushi was good. Scallops were very good. The cook we had was not great by any means. He got my friends food wrong and I only got half of my meal. Not a good performance. We felt very rushed, our sushi was completely forgotten about until we asked where it was. The dessert menu was not even offered until after we received our check. For the cost, I was quite disappointed but at least I had plenty of food to take home.
Over crowded, we had reservations and got stuck in the corner of someone else's hibachi table. Salad was mush, gross, rest of the meal was decent, couldn't hear anybody sitting next to you because every hibachi table was over crowded. If we hadn't made a reservation I would understand but it was WAY over booked.
Went here for my birthday with a friend and was disappointed. I've had sushi in a number of other local establishments and found the pricing here to be outrageous for the amount that you get. I ordered the sushi sashimi plate (approximately $29) and was surprised that the portions were as small as they were and that you didn't get as much as you would in other restaurants. Another area sushi establishment offers a boat for two combo with more sushi, sashimi and rolls on it then two of my orders put together and for only $12 more than my one plate. And it's the best sushi I've had anywhere. What put this experience over the top was I found a hair in the middle of my plate underneath one of the pieces of sushi. Told the waitress and she knocked $10 off of the bill. Didn't help my appetite though. The sushi itself was tasty, I'm just unhappy with the portions. The miso soup also was not the best I've had locally. I personally would not return here again.
I’ve bought bento boxes before, a few times from this Koto in Latham. Usually they are decent. I was extremely disappointed when I opened my recent order of a salmon teriyaki bento box and was missing a few things without being notified. The fried scallops were missing, there were only 4 pieces of the California roll, instead of the 6 pieces that usually comes with it, the salad was tiny and drowned in ginger dressing, in the same tray the scallops were to go. The California roll pieces fell apart as soon as I picked them up and they didn’t supply any soy sauce for the California roll pieces. For the $26 I spent on this, I don’t think it was worth it.
I enjoyed my experience here having sushi and tea (no hibachi for me). The staff was nice and the sushi was tasty. I would have liked other tea options besides green tea, but the green tea was good. There were a few minor rough edges around the overall experience in terms of a dirty plate and some odd foam thing in my salad (?!), but I would still return.
Koto’s wasn’t properly prepared for party of 12. I felt rushed out once we received the check. I would suggest getting there early if you are a party of 2 or more and you have to ask for water. They didn’t just bring it to the tables. Different! Otherwise, great food and phenomenal ambiance.
First poor experience after many. Food seemed of poorer quality. Indicated my 3-year-old ordered noodles and not rice for her Hibachi dinner and was greeted with an argument from the server, which I promptly indicated it wasn't a big deal. We ended up sharing between the four in our party with no resolution from the server/restaurant. When the bill came it included an 18% tip with no option to modify...is this even legal? My brief research indicates a restaurant can when the party is of 6 or more people.
Went there for lunch. Hibachi. The food was not fresh. The rice tasted funny. The noodles tasted funny. The cucumbers that they bring out were like rubber. I could see the flexibility in them. It was like we got last night's food left over Then on top of that there's this thing on the receipt called the service charge of $5. What the hell is that for? 👎👎👎👎👎
We recently went to Koto for my daughters birthday. We have been here many times and this was the worst experience we have had. We spent $260 on dinner and it wasn't worth the money at all. Our chef seemed completely uninterested. Part of hibachi is the show, there was no show. Other chef's seemed to be upbeat but not ours. The shrimp wasn't fully cooked we had to ask for it to be put back on the grill twice, steak was rare, also had to ask for it to be cooked more. When we asked, the chef seemed annoyed and initially waived us off and said, "it's fine". Our daughter was going to pass on dessert, she was full. Our server asked her several times if she was sure, as it was her birthday and she gets a birthday treat. She finally ordered something to have them charge $8.50 on the bill. She only ordered it because they insisted she gets a birthday treat. We were a table of 10, but three separate parties/bills, so 18% is automatically applied. Normally I tip 20-25% but this experience was worth about 10.
The service was attentive. However, if you plan on ordering beer make sure you keep the bottle, they poured the beer into a cup and as it overflowed they took the rest of the bottle. We ordered chicken and noodles to go (for our daughter) and when we got home the noodles weren’t with the chicken. For the $100 we spent for two people it was not worth the extra time to drive. Our local hibachi is much more flavorful and affordable. (Mt. Fuji for the WIN)
This place is not good if you have allergies and you have your plate come from the kitchen. Service was slow and my plate didn't come until we asked twice why and every one else was done eating. Everyone was talking and looking why I didn't have a meal and when it came I took it to go because you don't want to sit alone and eat while the rest of your table looks on. They still charged full price as well. We won't be back. Within 15 minutes of eating I was very sick. My stomach is hurting terrible and I haven't left the bathroom 😭. They glutened me.
I brought my 6 year old here for the first time for her birthday, made a reservation ahead of time as I know it’s gets busy. The reservation was for 7 pm and we didn’t get seated until almost 8, 7:50 to be exact. I was told that the other 7 pm party changed to table dining instead of hibachi only to end up being seated right next to them and we didn’t get our food started until after they had already ate….i just feel like I got slighted and it was unorganized as far as the chefs who I must say are great at what they do but maybe short staffed. I just don’t know why the male host would lie to me about the other party being seated first. Their party had way more people, it was only me and my daughter makes no sense to me. Very disappointed for the amount of money spent. Wouldn’t come back, if it wasn’t for my daughter being adamant on seeing the hibachi experience I would have left after the first 20 minutes of waiting.
I have always had a good experience at Kotos. And this last time was going well. The food was great and the wait service was going well. But then I had to get them to agree to use my dinner voucher during a Saturday lunch meal by having them charge me the prices from the dinner menu. Mea culpa for forgetting that they still offer the lunch menu on Saturdays (but not Sundays). But they told me it wouldn't be a problem. However, the assistant manager then proceeded to overcharge me by over $6 (A la cart prices vs sushi combo price). I pointed out their error, and then the head manager got involved and tried to berate me in front of the other customers and staff with a heightened, rude tone. Claiming he was already cutting me a deal. This may be true, but I don't obtain these deals just to be purposely overcharged on the backend. If he wasn't able to agree to the voucher usage, I could understand. But you don't start belittling your customers. Especially one that has been a patron for the last 10 years! Sorry Mr. manager, but you ruined my dining experience. I will remember to use my voucher at dinnertime. Hopefully you'll too learn from your mistakes before you lose your customer base.
Ordered delivery. The fried rice is oily, and the shrimp is dry, over cooked, and rubbery. The menu said “shrimp and vegetables” there are no vegetables in this food. Koto has gone downhill in quality.
Had a reservation and didn’t get seated until an hour and fifteen minutes after. Only reason we were even sat was because they split our party of fourteen. Food was mediocre at best which it was the past two times I was here but I figured I’d give them another chance. Only hibachi place in the capital district that makes you choose between noodles or rice. After sitting we ordered drinks and they took 45 min to come. Would not recommend this to anyone ever.
Dry rice old food very salty like you’re eating sand,
We.were there on Sunday afternoon. The waiter was rude. We were still eating when the women came with takeout boxes, and without asking us started putting our food in the box. We had received food roughly 15 minutes before this happened so we were not there for too long either. I was thinking about tipping on the low end, however, 20 dollars was already included as a service charge!
Came here for a work outing and was not impressed with the service. The chef started off by throwing the flat spatula at me, spilling sauce on my clothes and all over my plate. I figured it was a mistake, so I didn't make a scene, didn't really get too upset. My plate was replaced, and I thought we were good, but that's not where things ended. When he offered to toss vegetables at us to catch, I declined and he threw it anyway. THEN when he set the grill on fire and used his little peeing boy water sprayer, he decided it'd be funny to spray me with it. Thankfully it was just water, but I initially thought it was sauce and got pretty peeved as I was wearing a light sweater. I dried my sweater off and firmly asked him to stop, which he finally listened to. We were a large party so he got his 18% gratuity, but I would've happily given him no tip based on his inability to read the room and listen to my verbal and non-verbal cues to stop. Service aside, the salmon and filet mignon were very nicely cooked. So thanks for that, I guess? Our waitress was also very attentive.
We went as a large group last Saturday. Had reservations. We were split in 3 tables. One of the tables was not served until they finish with one of the others, causing the cooking show to be rushed. Was not impressed by the food taste either. Only one bartender available for serving the bar and preparing the table's drinks. Won't come back...
I a bit surprised because the first time I went I had such a good time. Because of that I brought my grandson for his birthday. He was so excited to go. I told them it was his birthday and could they make it special for him. They didn't. The waitress was rude. She gave short snippy answers. Also she took my plate before I was done. The hibachi show wasn't great. It was very expensive and in the end they took a $17.00 tip that was totally NOT deserved. I will not be going back there. I will say that the food was good. Not anything special for the price I paid. Never again.
Sad to say I had to change my 5 star review from 3 years ago to a 1 (and 1 is a stretch). We have been regulars at Koto for family birthdays, Valentine's Day, anniversaries, and graduations for 15+ years. The service is terrible lately. Hibachi "shows" have been subpar the last few years and now the food is declining as well. We ordered take out tonight ($120) and there are black burnt hard bits throughout all of our food... veggies, rice, and meat. The meat is all over-cooked, almost to the point of being inedible. The portion of veggies is ridiculously small and all mush. The shrimp is so over-cooked you cant even bite it. The inconsistency in the quality of food is unexceptable for the price you pay for hibachi...and the fact that a chef bagged that up and served it to a customer is crazy.
While enjoying a hibachi annual trip with my son (well over 21). I noticed the hibachi chef next to us going through the motions (with water in a baby bottle) of giving saki shots. The glorying of drinking there is too high level. We’re not asking you to have our kids look forward to there first real saki blast when they grow up. We live in a society where alcohol is over glamorized. Not a Karen here. Still give saki shots to the adults (I enjoyed them), but don’t start our children’s training.
