Opiniones de SEM Restaurant Lisbon
What a special dinner! The zero waste of it all is extremely impressive and even more, the food is exquisite. I’m from San Francisco and consider myself quite the foodie and this place was definitely top on my Lisbon list. Additionally, the service was incredible. I was there alone and was feeling a bit unwell initially and the staff were very kind and accommodating throughout. Special shoutout to the woman with the short hair who I believe is one of the managers, she was absolutely lovely.
I was initially drawn to SEM by its zero-waste philosophy and the relatively accessible reservation process, but I had no idea I was about to experience such an exceptionally delicious meal. Often, concept-driven restaurants can lose focus on the palate, but here, the culinary execution is truly brilliant. The atmosphere is effortlessly cool, set to a backdrop of American indie music, and the commitment to sustainability is evident in thoughtful details like the use of small cloth napkins instead of paper. The team operates with a seamless, versatile synergy; watching the staff multi-task with such perfect chemistry was a pleasure in itself. At €78 per person, the tasting menu offers a beautifully curated journey, and every dish felt imbued with sincere care. We opted for the oyster supplement (€5 each) to start, and they were a highlight—carrying a fresh scent of the sea and shucked with absolute precision so not a single trace of grit remained. The kitchen thoughtfully provided a variety of sauces that elevated, rather than masked, the distinct flavors of the oysters. For the main course, the duck was exceptionally well-prepared. I was also deeply impressed by their use of house-made vinegars, which they cleverly incorporate into their ever-changing menu to brilliantly lift and brighten the flavors. The beverage program is equally stellar. We tried the curated wine pairing (€50), which complemented the menu perfectly. We also explored their by-the-glass offerings, enjoying a crisp Filipa Pato Espumante and a lovely Gamine Tinto, both of which showcased excellent local winemaking. Portion-wise, the tasting menu leans slightly light. I found myself wanting just a bit more, so I opted to add an extra serving of their fantastic homemade bread and butter for €5. It was the perfect amount to finish the meal completely satisfied, without feeling the need to order an additional cheese plate. The final small dessert wrapped everything up on a high note. If you appreciate restaurants that marry profound environmental respect with outstanding, detailed gastronomy, SEM is an absolute must-visit in Lisbon.
An absolutely exceptional dining experience. We loved Sem’s concept of zero waste and their creative use of local and even invasive plants and animals — it’s such a refreshing and forward-thinking approach to fine dining. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of unique, complex flavor combinations that stood out from anything we’ve tried before. The “low impact” wine pairing featured fantastic local Portuguese wines that complemented the dishes perfectly. The service was warm, attentive, and professional — you can really tell that everyone here is passionate about what they do. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a cozy, modern vibe and shelves full of fermentation jars that are actually used in their creations. A truly memorable experience and one of the most innovative meals we’ve had in Portugal. Highly recommended.
If you care about where your food comes from—and also want it to taste amazing—this is the spot. Had no idea until we arrived this restaurant serves pretty good grub with a major focus on sustainability. Each course was extremely well thought about by the incredible chefs there focusing on serving dishes thats hearty without being heavy, creative without being weird-for-the-sake-of-it, and you leave feeling full but not weighed down. The service was spot on and each dish was described just as we expected, the story behind the source with a focus on how little wastage was used to prepare the dish. All ingredients and wine we had were sourced locally or at least a few hours from Lisbon. This restaurant I don't think is for everyone (if you are your meat and 2 veg kinda person without caring where it comes from) maybe keep scrolling! But if you're not, definitely give it a try.
5 stars on every aspect of it. The restaurant believes in the sustainability, the dish they create is truely reflects their belief. I dined there alone and they made me feel very comfortable by having a nice conversation with me time to time. Incredible restaurant. It is one of a kind. Reservation is a must since it is pre-fixed 6 course of meals. Wine pairing was amazing, too.
An absolutely terrific experience. It’s a lovely space, wonderful staff, and next level food. Their hyper-local and zero-waste philosophy coupled with awesome talent result in interesting and delicious food that wow the senses. The team of Harrison, Baptiste and Lucy were engaging, fun, attentive and informative. And watching the open kitchen it was clear that they all love doing what they’re doing, and take joy from the smiles and excitement coming from the guests.
A remarkable dining experience from start to finish. The kitchen pushes boundaries with inventive, beautifully executed dishes that introduce flavors I never knew. The wine pairings are spot-on and thoughtfully chosen. Highly recommended without hesitation.
We had such a memorable evening ✨️ it surpassed expectations. Our host and one of our chefs; Lexi (I think, so sorry if that's wrong) was so generous with her explanations and time answering all our groupie-esque questions regarding each dish, the process and incredible concept that the place is founded upon. The ferments and preserves that fill the room where an endless source of fascination to me as I know they are the source of inspiration to Chef George McLeod and the reason each dish is so unique and creative. The concept is so admirable and hopeful and the food is soooo delicious and nourishing. The kitchen (so small!!! How can it be?!) Is visible from the dining room and was run with speed and efficiency by the team and everyone was having a lovely time despite a full restaurant and the pressures that come with that. Baptiste, the sommelier was attentive and engaging. The non alcoholic beverages were complex and inspiring. I would highly recommend anyone who is planning a visit to do a little research about the concept from their very informative website as it will help explain just how much thought, care and talent is going into each mouthful that you will be enjoying. Thank you to the entire team and especially to Chef George for showcasing just how delicious, creative and inspiring a sustainable meal and food industry can be ✨️🙏👌
What a fantastic gem of a restaurant! It's low impact, no waste fine dining with lots of home made ferments and local produce. There is only the tasting menu available with either a wine pairing or a low impact pairing. Lots of wine and other drinks are available. The vibe is cozy and not stiff or snobby. The service is absolutely excellent. Everyone was so friendly and genuinely happy we were here, despite being tourists. You will definitely need a reservation. There are two services a night and second service starts at 9.30 pm.
Stumbled upon a culinary gem in Lisbon—SEM Restaurant, featured in the Michelin Guide. Without a reservation, we had to do their shorter tasting menu and were blown away by the creativity and commitment to sustainability. Each dish told a story, crafted from micro-seasonal ingredients and innovative fermentation techniques. A true testament to zero-waste dining and regenerative practices. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable.
Michelin Guide - Give SEM their second star now! You know their creations are truly unique, and their flavors are authentic to the culinary traditions of the region. Their work deserves greater recognition. Traveller - Eat here now! If you have one chance to eat dinner in Lisbon, SEM is the restaurant. SEM Restaurant- Thank you for the excellent dining experience and more importantly for sharing your work with us. My wife and I had a great dinner and will tell others to visit you.
Had an absolutely delicious, seven course dinner - the restaurant does local/sustainable stuff and natural wine pairings. The oysters were tasty, the fish was super good, the steak had acorn gravy that was amazing. The wine was super unique stuff, but so tasty. Plus the vibe is terrific, and the staff was so generous and sweet. It was amazing!
One of the best dining experiences of my life. I savored every bite, each dish taking me to another realm. I was offered various culinary publications to read while I dined; an added element to the experience. The service was nothing short of perfection. I admire and respect this establishment and their ethos in producing such an exquisite product and service.
Great tasting menu in Lisbon. Very reasonable priced for the quality of the food throughout six courses. It’s an added bonus that every dish on the menu focuses on sustainability, either through using excess or up-cycled products, invasive species or future food systems. Each dish was more impressive than the last, and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality meal in Lisbon.
Great meal at a restaurant with a bold mission statement. The food is creative, gutsy and delicious without ever descending into twee fussiness. Attention to detail is evident throughout the restaurant. Service is crisp and professional. The meal is served at a serene pace and we were able to savor each dish and its wine pairing. Highly recommend.
A very unpretentious Michelin star experience which is what its all about! The service was friendly, quick and knowledgeable but not in a showy, rushed or arrogant way. The concept is cool especially because of the level of sophistication the food etc. reaches which is inspiring. Will definitely return soon for more.
I absolutely loved this restaurant. Their whole philosophy is built around sustainable, zero-waste food, but what makes it special is how those constraints lead to exceptionally unique meals. I usually look for tastes I’ve never experienced before, and this place delivered. For example, a high-end steakhouse may make a much better steak then another place, but it still taste like "steak". Also to be clear, "unique" doesn't mean "weird" or off putting, everything was delicious and approachable. I still think about this miso butter they served with the bread months later. The staff also answer questions if you have any and it's cool seeing them work the kitchen live. If you’re in Lisbon I think this is a great place to visit.
Sem restaurant in Lisbon is a must for any food lover! This zero waste restaurant with it’s open kitchen and innovative menu is fantastic. Sem in Portuguese means without and the claim here is that they don’t waste anything. I can confirm the food, service and the atmosphere are all spot on and you won’t find more creative cooking anywhere else in Lisbon. It’s a curated taster menu so you’ll want to book and make time to enjoy all the food surprises that they’ll bring your way.
If we could rate this place higher than a 5, i would give it a 10. One of the best meals we have ever eaten in our entire life. We stumbled upon this place on our last night in Lisbon and it made for an amazing last night experience. We did not have a reservation but the staff was extremely accommodating and got us a table in the entry area by the window after about a 30 minute wait. The food was truly outstanding. They were extremely accommodating for my gluten free preference. I will dream of this meal.
Gostei bastante deste jantar no Sem.
Tudo perfeito no SEM. Recomendo muito a visita. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

O restaurante é aconchegante, a recepção é calorosa.
Estupendo!!
Perfeito. Excelente restaurante

Phenomenal! Cannot recommend enough. So much thought went into the dishes, which were even better with the wine pairing.

Starting with the good/great here… both bottles of wine we had were tremendous, both the skin contact and the red and both were recommendations from the team and fairly priced. More good… all of the food we had was amazing - white fish with cockles was very special and plating on all was flawless. Only issue… the tasting menu felt 1 or even 2 dishes short - even with us adding one of the supplements. I imagine this is likely holding them back from higher recognition (michelin or otherwise)
I loved the atmosphere and attention to detail during my dinner here. The location and space were super charming! I appreciated learning a bit about SEM’s mission and commitment to incorporating sustainability into the food and drink sourcing. They also had a few non-alcoholic wine options that I really enjoyed. I loved most of the dishes on the tasting menu — especially the oysters (and oyster shaped plate) and strawberry dessert — but a few of them weren’t as memorable. Still, it was overall a fantastic dining experience for my first evening in Lisbon.

So close to being an incredible restaurant. We loved the concept, the servers were great and all the food was good but pacing was incredibly slow, we were there for nearly 2 hours and finished each dish in 1-2 minutes. The price seemed very high for a 5 course meal with very small dishes. We've been to incredible tasting menus in Paris and New York that were 8-10 course of incredible food for about the same cost. Still a good experience if you don't mind the pacing, value and aren't arriving very hungry.
First time we tried this restaurant in Lisbon and it was an interesting experience. good sound acoustics in the restaurant. The staff is professional and attentive! The food is good but not overwhelming and you will get a lot of fermented food. At the end the menu says 7 plates but the first 3 come together and it felt more like 1. I like fermented food but not in every dish. And even fermenting honey even though it does not get bad - I just didn’t really get. Overall the food just wasn’t really to our taste but that can happen. I also found that the waiters were just about nice. Going to a place like this and paying that amount of money you expect at least a friendly happy atmosphere. And I didn’t really get that. It felt more like they didn’t want to be there.
Very underwhelming for the price. Experimental food and wine which do not deserve the ratings this place has in my opinion. For €135 food and wine pairing this was far off meeting expectation: food was about 70% and wine about 40%. The wines were unrefined and some to a point to not being drinkable. The atmosphere was great and the service very good, so it is a shame this was let down by the food and wine.
Great concept, mediocre execution. If you fancy the minimum waste concept and do not mind paying a lot for small portions of mostly sweet-and-sour food combinations, this is your gem. As a big eater and not a fan of the latter, it was a disappointing experience. With one of the courses being bread and two of the courses being dessert, it more resembled a 5 course meal. Also, the prices for a glass of wine were a bit insane (9 or 14 euros each), as well as their expectations for tips (min. 10%). Not sure why over the last year they increased their menu price from 55 to 72 euros, while number of courses and portion sizes seem to have dimininished. I would advise SEM to be more transparent about these things, so people know better what to expect when booking.

I don’t understand the great reviews here. I get trying to be a sustainable menu but the food just is not good. If you are trying to act like a Michelin restaurant it has to be better. Each dish was overdone, the oyster was covered in apples, the meat was smothered in a bad heavy sauce, the dessert was not edible. Somehow chocolate is not sustainable so it was some gross manufactured fake chocolate. The wine pairings were so bad we had to request substitutions.
CATFISH! Super high reviews somehow, great press, but overpriced, meh food. Ruined my birthday dinner! I’m someone who reads copious reviews, does a tonne of research and NEVER wants to waste mea…

A vossa “esplanada” ocupa o passeio praticamente todo.
