Fantastic food & venue experience. I've recently shied away from the fine dining experience but this is in a unique class of relaxed, cool, fine dining. Lovely friendly service without pretentious overtones. Most importantly the food is outstanding and every dish. We did a wine pairing and tasted some extremely new & different wines. The Sommelier was exceptional. We will return for sure.
Special occasion place as it's pricy. So tasty. Interesting food. Standard wine pairing was good although an aged saki with steak tartare was not expected.
Great experience, every dish was very tasty and extremely well balanced. Cocktails are simple and delicious as well.
Phenomenal tasting menu - really loved it here. The snacks before the meal were a surprise and delicious. My favourite courses were the scallops, lamb and goat yoghurt dessert. Really good red wine by the glass. Such a shame this place is closing - book ASAP to experience a great restaurant. As an alternative if you miss it - try the Corner Room in the Town Hall Hotel.
Another amazing visit to the Typing Room and once again the the food , wine & service was excellent. This place is well worth a visit as it also has a nice friendly atmosphere so you should definitely put it on you list
Contemporary, exciting, and amazing food at a reasonable price. Reminds me of Dabbous, very much worth going
Truly one of the best meals of my life.
One of the best dinners in my life!!!
Nothing bad about this place except that its so far away! I'll probably go regularly if its in central London.
Innovative and great tasing menu, the atomosphere is very cosy as you can see the kitchen staff preparing the food from across the room. The services and wine selections were also great.
This place is fabulous. It is high-end and a little pricey- but you get what you pay for. Excellent food and service in a smart, relaxed setting. Dinner was a wonderful three hours and worth every minute.
Absolutely fantastic. Trully creative dishes, fresh products, surprising tastes, reasonable prices. It deserves a Michelin star. Such a gem in the East End.
Fabulous food, definitely Michelin star soon. One of my best ever meals in London and I've had lots. A place to push the boat out
Honestly - there is no better dining experience in East London. Period. Come here for a special meal, the service, atmosphere and intelligence of the menu and the wines will leave you flabbergasted. No lie.
One of those places where the kitchen and wine work in perfect sync. Not just pretty food but tasty food and that is not always the case. Excellent value for lunch.
A fantastic experience. Great presentation and service with incredibly tasty food. As a vegetarian I was impressed with the selection of delicious dishes.
Michelin star potential! We had the 7 course degustation menu and every course was a delight. Plus, the staff is super attentative & friendly.
The 5 course tasting menu is nothing less than superb .Definitely one of the best experiences I ever had .The staff is friendly and attentive and the decor is amazing .A must for foodies!!
Remains my favourite resteraunt in London deserves numerous mitchelin stars. Incredible food, amazing service, please go you won't regret it!
So delicious and very accommodating! My husband and I stopped in unexpectedly and did not have reservations. Our wait was very minimal and the staff was able to accommodate us at the bar. The staff was great, the drinks and food were all amazing! Very nice restaurant.
I have been lucky enough to visit here 5 times over the last 2 years every time as good as the firsts . Sadly on the visit last Saturday I found out they will be closing at the end of the month . Alex was brilliant with the wine as always. If anyone reads this and has time to go before this gem is lost forever. Best meal in a long time
Amazing. Glorious food, wonderful staff, there aren't enough superlatives to describe it. I would say the choice of music didn't quite fit the environment (mainstream pop) but really that's just being pernickety, it didn't really bother me. The food came like magic at exactly the right time. I have dietary requirements which were accounted for without the usual faff & palavar I'm used to in other establishments. Everything was effortless. Substitutions were swapped in and everything looked absolutely beautiful. The sommelier was knowledgeable and friendly and bar a dry sherry (which is not to my taste anyway) every wine was perfectly matched. Service was friendly and professional, everyone looked happy and you got the impression if you were to make random requests of them they would go out of their way to cater for you. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I can't understand the previous bad review. I'd question if they were even dining in the same restaurant as I was..... All in all hats off to the Typing room.
Typing Room is world class. I'd be surprised if it doesn't have a Michelin Star in its future. It's a bit out the way, but well worth the trek. The attention to detail is exceptional, and some of the dishes are beautifully unusual. I never thought that I'd say this, but the best cauliflower I've ever had (but I won't ruin the surprise.)
Fantastic food, including the ultimate for Marmite fans, in a really great setting. The kitchen and the sommelier work well together for the tasting menu and the introduction of Sake adds another dimension. Definitely recommend it
Came here for my bday and wow what an incredible experience. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and everything was just amazing including the service. Def recommend!
The Peg + Patriot here is my new favourite cocktail bar. Awesome bartender, awesome waitstaff, beautiful and surprising cocktails, and a super sleek decor. I've yet to try the Typing Room restaurant in the same very cool building.
This is a little gem... on offer is a tasting menu. This might sound limited but it is a fabulous menu... reasonably price and if you choose the wine flight to accompany the courses you won't be disappointed
5 Course Tasting Menu at lunch was outstanding! We skipped the wine pairing but ordered several bottles of wine for the four of us, and they were also terrific.
Typing Room is basically Viajante (renamed as Nuno Mendes has defected to Chiltern Firehouse - taking the name with him for a future venture). The Typing Room is in Bethnal Green Town Hall (Patriot Square), which has it's own bar (Peg+Patriot) and houses the Corner Room (same kitchen I suspect). I've been to Viajante before for their 13 course (vegetarian) tasting menu with wine pairing. I remember rolling out of there after a cocktail or two from next door. This time, I booked online the night before and forgot to ask for 1 veggie menu and also had to ask by twitter for a specific table... When we got there we were initially seated at the back - which is very comfortable but not where we wanted to be. I asked about the twitter table request and the front of house checked with the Manager and moved us swiftly to the table facing the kitchen which is a lot brighter and livelier. Note - only a table of 4 can have this table. After perusing the a la carte menu and the tasting menu, I mentioned to one of the waiting staff that I had forgotten to mention when booking that I was vegetarian and I was given a vegetarian tasting menu and informed what would be available if I decided to pick from the a la carte menu. There's also a tasting menu for pescatarians. We all decided to go with the tasting menus (6 courses), 2 guests also did the wine pairing (half portion - just ask). In addition, we were given the best bread and marmite butter at the start (bread was hot to touch), a pre-dessert and salted caramel macaroons to finish. All up, a very tasty and original tasting menu with sufficient time in between courses. The standout dishes would be the (savoury) profiteroles, the cauliflower dish and the desserts which were to die for. The main veggie dish of the tasting menu comprised leek and cep - I am not a fan of leek but they made it taste more like potato, so that was pretty special. This place is great for any occasion and as the seating arrangement is quite spacious, it's all very civilised and you can actually have a proper conversation. Just go!
Had the £65 Five course tasting menu, which also includes five other small items (pre-appetisers and pre-desserts). My top three favourites were the sourdough, the plaice and the sheep's yogurt dessert. Expect a long meal for the tasting menu (took us 3 hours).
Serious gastronomy going on here. The 5 course tasting menu gave me my best food experience of 2016. The wine list is also whimsically impenetrable...but that's what sommeliers are for, right?
The Typing Room is sublime. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and it was a fantastic experience. Sommelier was just fantastic, French and passionate (what you want).
My wife and I along with another couple attended the Typing Room based on some word of mouth reviews. The experience was fantastic, we opted to go with the 7 course menu and wine pairing and this combination was fantastic. Each course is paired with a wine and information about the wine and why it is paired with the course is explained to you. As the 7 courses are set you are bound to come across some items that may not be to the liking of your palette but presentation is perfect.
The five-course tasting menu was far more than me or my girlfriend we expecting. We were continually amazed and thrilled with with the ingenuity and taste of the dishes presented to us, and since the total number of plates presented was closer to 15 than 5, the thrill of anticipating the next treat was never over. I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough.
With its plush décor, open kitchen and superb service this restaurant is a great location for a special occasion date. The food was simple, fresh and packed full of flavour - my favourite dish was the trout with the tomatoes and horseradish. The wine pairings were impeccable and included a glass each of sparkling, white, orange, red, and dessert wines. The Sommelier was really knowledgeable and gave a good overview of where the wine was from and why each was paired with it’s respective dish.
The seven course tasting menu with all the extra snacks was a truly memorable experience. The wine pairings were excellent....it is quite a lot to drink! But - the staff are exceptional. A beautiful evening.
This is unbelievable! Shame they don't hold 2 Michelin stars yet. Tasting menu with 5 courses, 2 snacks, 1 bread serving, pre dessert and post dessert - mouthwatering and mind-blowing for 65 quid. Relaxed atmosphere and very friendly service! Coming again, and again, and again. 👏
A second visit here for a birthday meal did not disappoint. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and both were incredible. Staff were attentive and informative! Presentation of food was perfect and beautiful. Dining room stylish and simply furnished. Why this doesn't have a star already is a mystery!
Typing room is my favorite dining experience. I have been three times so far (over about three years), and I found it fabulous each time. The ambience, the service, and especially the food are second to none. The building is phenomenal, and the decor simple but elegant and tasteful. I really like the open kitchen where you can see the cooks work away. Staff are attentive but not buzzing around you constantly. The selection of wines is great and the sommelier seems knowledgeable and he is definitely entertaining. On our last visit we tried the wine pairing which was interesting, and I learned a lot (and enjoyed some wines I would have never tried). Now, the food, it is just out of this world. Flavors, textures and presentation are amazing. They have a few "standing items" on the tasting menu because they are so wonderful (for example my favorite bread, and how is it possible that cauliflower can be so good?) and some of the dishes change according to season and chef's ideas (I think). Yes, it is pricey, but not compared to other high end restaurants. And it is definitely worth it.
All in all this was one of the best meals we have had for a very long time. We went for lunch in December and had the tasting menu which was hard to fault, almost every single course was amazing and tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the wine list was pretty special too. We are recommending this place to family and friends!
Quite how you can hold 4 AA rosettes and not have a Michelin Star is beyond me. I took my girlfriend here this evening and as a vegetarian, she LOVED it. Excellent menu, excellent wine, the staff are fabulous, especially Elle, the young waitress. I'd highly recommend this to anyone that appreciates an a la carte menu. Highly, highly recommend.
Fantastic. Celebrated my 30th birthday here and the food was amazing. Me and my wife went for the 7 course taster menu. Looking at the menu, on the surface, nothing really shouts out at you. For example, the dessert we had was "sheep's milk with apple and dill".....where is the chocolate in that dessert? But once it arrived, I couldn't fault it one bit. And the same goes for all the other dishes. Everything that arrived looked like a piece of art. And the service was brilliant - they really made you feel relaxed and welcome. Although it's a but pricey, I definitely recommend this place if you have a cause for celebration. And the cocktail bar next door ain't too bad either.
The replacement for Viajante, which vacated earlier this year, the Typing Room is a worthy replacement, fantastic dishes, a reasonably priced lunch menu and wonderful setting with open kitchen. What more could anyone ask for?
Not the cheapest menu in London but very nice food and quite good value. Top notch food with great combinations paired well with decent wine. The setting is stylish and causal but no messy and the service generally friendly. We got a bit unlucky with a waitress who couldn't tell us the names of any of the cheeses on the cheese course but sacrificing service to keep the cost down I can very definitely cope with so long as the food is not compromised
Hidden gem in the middle of bethnal green and Inside a boutique hotel. We went for the set lunch on a Saturday. Food quality was a four star, nothing special but all well cooked and tasty. Service was ok, there were some misunderstanding in the service. Wine list is quite extense but also a bit pricey, bottle of wine stars around £30. Overall a three star mostly because of the price tag. Helps to go though the location it is, old town hall with old furniture.
The food is good but expensive for what it is. They charge Michelin prices for a menu that doesn't quite make the cut. Knock £20 off the tasting and they'd have a winner.
Too many conflicting flavors, service was mediocre and value for money was below average. Clove Club or Paradise Garage offer better quality dishes at more reasonable prices. I cannot say the food was bad but we were all disappointed. Luckily the company and wine list made the night very memorable :)
Beautiful food and service but easily the smallest portions from the lunch menu that I have ever had anywhere, ever. They even brought a us a bread roll to share. We had to go for ice cream afterwards! By all means have the experience but don't expect to leave with your appetite sated.
Expensive and pretentious. Tiny portions. Wine 125 ml. Quiet with no atmosphere on a grey November weekday lunch. More kitchen staff than customers so must be busier in the evening.
this restaurant suffers the same problems as the music the chef insists on playing, Loud, brash and uneceassary,it subtracts rather than adds to the atmosphere and eating experience Loud and sourcedtheradio 1 top 40 chart does not equal either quality or or zeitgeist, the chef could do with a long internship at el bulli as there is no chance the Typing room will ever recieve a Michelin star like their excellent predecessor unless it involves massive bribery;- the food is the culinary equivalent of using a sledgehammer to try tune a Steinway. I left after only a few courses to spare my tastebuds any further suffering - life is far too short for bad food or wine, misleadingly the bread, wine and excellent service createsthe first impression this could be a decent culinary experience, but it goes downhill as quickly as the tasting courses arrive don't waste your precious time or money, you would be far better off at the Mission, a stones throw away where they know excellent food and great wine, hopefully whatever replaces the typing room will not make the same mistake twice, bas no doubt the Townhall hotelwill be replacing the typing room Sooner rather than later as I cant imaginethey receive any repeat customersonly suckers like us whom presumed previous quality would be replaced by better or at least matching quality, certainly not! I will not repeat that mistake evwe again
