My neighbor brought me here for lunch. The food is fresh and delicious. The service by Michelle was exemplary. The prices are about half of what I expected. (I'm from Dallas) Will definitely be back and recommend it to others!

The absolute best sushi in Lubbock. And trust me, that may sound bad, but this place is top-notch sushi for ANY town. I have friends who visited from Japan and said this place was just as good, albeit different, from their sushi. They said they missed it when they returned home to Misawa. Just go! You won't regret it.

I got the takeout filet mignon with fried rice and it was delicious! I didn't stay there to eat but while I was waiting the staff was very friendly, asking a couple times if I wanted something to drink. A very nice place!

I always have great service at Hayashi. I am not sure her name, (I know she told me but I forgot, I’m sorry). She was working last night in the bar. She is absolutely amazing. My mother has been in and out of covenant over the last year and passed away in July. This bartender has always been compassionate and just incredible. I have had to go into Hayashi many times to take a break from the hospital visits and most of the time it is not a fun night by any means. But she always brightens things up and she works so hard. Please pass this on to her.

This place is so amazing , the food was magnificent as well & our waitress was very attentive and sweet. They had a table ready to go and we were immediately seated. we spent MAYBE an hour from seating to check everything was out in a timely manner. 10/10 we will absolutely be back. especially for variety of sake drinks and desserts.

I had a fantastic time here. Got the hibachi steak and chicken. The steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. The only downside is I think they put a little too much ginger salad dressing on the salad.

Food was so fresh and well prepared. I usually judge a sushi place by quality of salmon sashimi and was not disappointed. Great selection of rolls and cocktails. I was really pleasantly surprised in Lubbock by this place! Will definitely eat here against next time here. Also our waitress Kasey was AMAZING.

Great atmosphere and excellent service! We had several rolls and each one was fantastic. The portions are kind of small so I would recommend 3 rolls for a hungry adult. I only ordered 2 and left a bit hungry. The specialty rolls are larger, so 2 would be enough. Food was fresh and tasty. We'll definitely be back!

The staff was simply amazing 😍. They were very slammed with nonstop customers probably from about 7 p.m. to well after 9 pm. I came in with a surprise large order around around maybe 7:50 pm.I was amazed at how fast they could get the order like I already dined in when I got up to go. The restroom was perfectly clean. Silverware was clean. Their seafood items looked fantastic. even though they have a bar you could not smell the alcohol throughout the restaurant even if you sat super close to the bar. The bartender that was there was one of the best that I've seen so far around he was friendly answered questions aided his fellow staff members and everybody liked his drinks. The chefs were totally awesome 🤩. I placed a order over 200.00, As slammed as they were they helped me with the assistance to take it to my car compared to other businesses around the Lubbock Texas area, I so wish I could give this place 10 stars. They were outstanding.

My family ate dinner here after the worst experience every at JAZZ. Service was amazing from the time we walked in the door. The food was amazing as well. We just moved from Lubbock to DFW. I am craving this place at least twice a week. 10/10 would recommend everything here. Will pay someone to give me the chicken fried rice recipe. I miss it so much.

Great place to eat! I loved the Samurai rolls and the combo udon noodles! (With chicken steak and shrimp!) the service was great and I thought the atmosphere was pretty good as well! This is a great place to eat if your looking for some great Japanese cuisine! Highly recommend it!

We arrived right at 4:30pm as they opened for dinner service on a Saturday. I told the server that we needed options for gluten free due to celiac. No problem she said! I enjoyed the hibachi chicken, salad with Ranch dressing (house dressing wasn't safe), miso soup (clear soup and egg drop soup not safe) along with GF fried rice. It was all so delicious and gluten free!

Delicious as ALWAYS! I scarfed my food down so quickly I forgot to get photos or the servers name but we had excellent service! Only photo I got was of their Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream which is a 10/10 for all mochi lovers. My friend & I had 2 separate sushi rolls, and both were amazing. I wish I could remember the names lol but everything there is always so good! They were also extremely busy, it was a Friday night, & I overheard someone saying they were short staffed but I must say, I never would’ve known, besides the amount of people in there 🧐 Our wait was prompt, service fast, food came out fast & fresh. Overall a wonderful experience, as it always is. 🤓 I love Hayashi Midtown! And am so excited about the Mochi Ice Cream as I’ve not seen this dish offered as a dessert at any other restaurant! Can’t wait to go back and try the other flavors!

This is my favorite sushi spot in Lubbock. It’s never too crowded when I go. I went Friday at 6 PM and they didn’t start getting busy until 7 PM when we were leaving. The sushi martini is AMAZING. We always get the angel wings roll, harumaki, and miso soup; none of these things ever disappoint. The food is consistently delicious and the service has been consistently fantastic over the last few years! The bathrooms are always clean and smell fresh and the televisions are always playing the best games! We always bring people who are visiting town here as well and they also enjoy the food and service! No complaints from me and mine!

Had dinner with a party of 5 and a baby on 3/10 around 6pm. We waited only about 5 minutes or so to be seated. Our server, Isaac, did a fantastic job taking care of us, even though it was busy and we had lots of requests! The starfish appetizer was so delicious, the table ordered another one immediately. The mixed drinks were fantastic and the hot sake complimented my sushi wonderfully. The ramen was also outstanding with a rich and bold broth and delicious ramen eggs. Fantastic experience overall. We will be back.

Clean, with kind and quick staff and a nice assortment of Hibachi style and sushi dishes. Namely the spring rolls are really good. They're freshly prepared and delicious. Other appetizer of note is the dumplings. Absolutely delightful, not overly salty like others I've had. The regular miso soup is fresh and hot. Sushi lunch special was a nice assortment of fishes with a small California roll. Service was very good and quick. Our waiter Trevor was exceptional in his duties and gave us recommendations on the menu when we looked unsure. He made the experience even better. Very pleased. Will be back.

We had a group of about 20 on a Saturday after a graduation. We were seated and served right away. Food was great, service was great. The only complaint was the small size of the calamari appetizer. Other than that, great experience.

First of all, this is just about your take out containers! I am a regular customer of Hayashi for several years and I love the food regardless if I eat inside or take out. However, I am tired of having to clean my car after picking up take out from there. Ordering teriyaki chicken shouldn’t cause such stress. I try being careful so that it doesn’t spill out of the container, but sometimes it still happens. I am assuming that the tin containers are better for the environment than plastic. So, if you should order take out from Hayashi and one of your containers happens to be tin, take special care to avoid having to clean your car after! After all this, I will still be in there next week picking up food! I love their food and their service is excellent!

Brandi was the server at 11:00. She did an excellent job asking for appetizers and helping me understand what different appetizers had. She was prompt checking up on our table. Brandi asked for desserts and explained the dessert menu very thorough. I definitely will be coming back.

Food was good, atmosphere good as well. This place does not need description, seems to be a go to place for a good time. Only thing is that I wish servers can have their notepads to take order. I personally never agreed with taking an order by memory

We got there and seated right away but no one came to take our order for another 5 minutes ordered our food about 12:15 and didn't get out order until 12:40. We always have good service but today was really slow.

This is not a hibachi where you can sit and have the food cooked in front of you. The food here is always delicious and never cold. The staff has been friendly here. I have yet to encounter a person who is not! I like to come here to sit and read a book while having a quick lunch or dinner it is usually on the quiet side even when it is busy.

Took a good 10 minutes for our initial contact from our waiter, and drink refills were slow coming, but the sushi was great. It was fresh and tasty. The seaweed salad was actually seaweed on top of a bed of spring mix, which we did not care for though.

We go here every Christmas Eve since they have opened and sometimes in between and Its always been excellent until this last trip. We sat at the sushi bar as always but noticed the ice box for the fish was very filthy among other things. Our waiter was awesome so that made us stay. Really hope that was a one time thing because we plan to try again. If not we will have to try new spot!😟

Good food. Not the exotic sushi place, but a quality product. Some of the sushi items are not what u get when the chef is actually Japanese and not just Asian in training. But the prices aren't like most "authentic" Japanese places either! Bento boxes at lunch are a lot of food. Staff is attentive and service is fast.

Sushi is good. The food was a little different since the last time I went. Ramen bowl not so great, sashimi didn't taste as good as before. Our waitress was really great and interacted with the kids very well.

The fish in the salmon roll didn't look like salmon. Not bad, but clearly not salmon (I've caught enough to know; flesh was grey, not pink/red-orange). Salads were swimming in enough dressing for 3x the greens. Lettuce was fresh and crisp, but drowning. Only one fork for salad and main entree. Disposable bamboo chopsticks. The dinners were a saving grace. Both the hibachi teriyaki beef and hibachi steak plates were very good. Beef was tender and flavorful and veggies were firm but not crunchy. Fried rice was very good too. Might've been a one-and-done for us but the hibachi plates were good enough to repeat. Update: I discovered the morning after my visit my credit card was missing. I returned to Hayashi Midtown (last place I used the card) 15 minutes prior to them opening for lunch. They let me in and returned my card which they'd secured overnight in their cash register. The card had not been used. Extremely pleased with their collective integrity. Plus a star.

Chicken teriyaki bento box was indeed a lot of food. Very large meal for one serving. I opted for an additional roll as well but was not quite as hungry when I got to it. Dinner pricing was fair and I hear there is a lunch menu. Did not get to experience the venue as I picked up my order for takeout.

I ordered medium hibachi steak and the steak was a bit tough to chew on. The rest of the meal was good. Service and atmosphere was wonderful. After dinner we went to have a drink at their bar. The bartender Kayla (I think her name) was excellent and very friendly.

Great vegan and vegetarian options. Lunch specials are great price with good portions. So many options. Service is fast and friendly.

I was in Lubbock for a conference and found this place on a google search. Great little spot for sushi and other offerings! The service was amazing and the waiter was very helpful regarding questions about the menu items.

But where else in lubbock tx can you get Is tempora soft shell crab. overall i was pleased with my visit

The chicken didn't have much flavor & neither did the veggies. I also really didn't like any of the sauces. So I probably won't be back.

Everything was wonderful! We really had a nice dinner and great service and even better food. There was of course a few areas that could use a slight improvement but overall it was delicious and we will be returning! We were greeted by a hostess that was nice enough, she was on her phone but greeted us promptly. We were sat down in the bartenders section and were waited on within 5 or 10 minutes. Appetizer: We got a Tokyo Maki sushi roll as an appetizer and it was the best sushi roll I’ve ever had! The wasabi is also perfectly balanced. We also had a “house salad” which had such a weird tasting dressing but I couldn’t stop eating it anyway lol. Our entrees: 2 hibachi combination steak & scallops; scallops were cooked to perfection. IMO, The steak could have been taken off the grill a couple minutes sooner and it would have been perfect but it was so good regardless. The veggies could have been left on a little longer but were still great tasting and flavorful. The rice was really good and the sauce under the steak and scallops was delightful! Dessert: If you’re still hungry, you gotta try the tempura cheesecake. It is AMAZING! Our bartender/waitress recommended it for us and I was not disappointed. Thank you for a lovely dinner. This may become a regular spot for us. :))

Service was a little slow and infrequent but not a big issue. The beef udon noodle soup was good with a nice side of tempura shrimp. The soup did have a strange chlorine aftertaste which I'm guessing is either from the water used for the broth or maybe excessive dishwasher residue left on the bowl. Otherwise it would have been great. The chirashi plate was a hot or miss on some of the fish. Salmon was GOOD as well as the white fish. However the mackerel and yellow fish did not taste too fresh. And the red tuna was not thawed all the way...I also would have preferred more rice to better balance with the fish. Overall, somewhat disappointed but not incredibly so as it did taste decent.

The food was average at best. I got the steak Hibachi combo with shrimp. If you go do not get a combination dinner. You get the same amount of meat as if you get the normal hibachi. But the rice was bland and the shrimp tasted off. The first cup of sweet tea I had tasted like cough syrup but proceeding cups we're fine. The tuna roll was good but quite small. I tried my girlfriend's chicken and it was quite bland and dry. I won't go back unless it's a last resort.

The food was GREAT, our server was GREAT. I’m giving this place 3 stars because our server had told us she had dropped one of our sushi plates, which is no big deal. Accidents happen. However, having to see and hear the manager or owner YELL at our server in front of us was extremely uncomfortable. Even my 4 year old son was scared and wondering why she was yelling at our server. She kept telling our server to “learn from her mistakes” because I’m assuming this isn’t the first time this has happened. No one deserves to get yelled at in front of customers.

Let me start by saying, we visit this location regularly. I understand a bad night. I do NOT understand arguing with a customer. Tonight our waiter was terrible! We requested another waiter however, that didn’t happen. My husband arrived first, was seated, and waited over 5 minutes before he waved down a server from another section. He was able to place his order for a bottled beer and an appetizer, was told he would place the order and let our server know. He then waited 5-10 before waiving down another server, asked about his beer and eventually it was brought to him. I arrived 15-20 minutes after my husband and seated myself. Again, we waited a good 5 minutes before waving down another server. At this point my husband’s beer was gone as well as half of his edema. I ordered a beer he ordered another beer, and chopsticks. We received our drinks in a reasonable amount of time, still NOT from our waiter, no chopsticks. Our waiter comes and gives some story about how where we are seated is not his “normal” section and he forgot about us. He apologized and said he would take good care of us. We understand things get crazy and said no problem. Our friends arrive, our waiter finally comes to the table takes our drink orders. Everyone ordered a drink but me. The waiter goes and places the order comes back and rushes us to order. We told him we were not ready and would appreciate our drinks as well as time. He comes back with drinks in 1-3 minutes, 1 water with lemon, one Diet Coke with very little ice and another water. At this time he ask if we are ready to order appetizers or sushi, we say no we need time. I ask for a water. He leaves. He comes back in 5ish minutes still no water! We order sushi, he attempts to take the menus, we tell him we will order entrees after our sushi. He appears very frustrated, not sure if with us or something else. We wait..flag him down and order 2 more beers, remind him about my water. Also, I dropped my fork and request another one. I have now waited 15-20 minutes for water!!!! He returns with beers assistance from other wait staff with sushi. I have to request a fork again! My sushi as well as the guy across the table from me, not related to me, sushi arrives on the SAME plate. I immediately tell him we need separate plates for that, he argues!!!!! With me tries to tell me sushi arrives like this and we can have smaller plates. I explain to him, we are not sharing, take it back and replace it. I do NOT accept this and demand! It be on separate plates. He returns with separate plates. My sushi is not correct however; my husband and I just share it and move on. He comes back asks if we are ready to order, still no water! We order entree’s. The couple that joined us have to request refills of water and Diet Coke. Diet Coke comes with 3! Slivers if ice. I still do not have water. The waiter then comes to the table with a beer for me that I did not order, I send it back. I had 3 drinks of my 2nd beer. Still no water. Our entrees arrive. Still no water! We were never asked about hot mustard or ginger sauce, no little dishes for soy sauce. Just a terrible experience. Needless to say we will NOT sit in his section ever again. Terrible service!!!!

Mediocre, but I've had some pretty good sushi from all over. Lunch specials are decent. Nice place only it felt a little crowded(chairs were too close together) it felt a little claustrophobic. The menu was a little too long for me, there is such a thing as too many choices but overall experience was good wait staff was friendly and attentive.

Food was just okay. Price was reasonable. Servers were unenthusiastic. Not something special.

I ordered 2 rolls to go, the special dragon roll and the hamachi roll. I was disappointed the moment I saw them. They looked rather small and didn't think they were worth the price. When I got them home they were very bland and worst of all they were warm despite only living 5 min away. All told I just wouldn't go here again. Why do people eat here? Can we in Lubbock start to be a little more discerning in what we eat and who we give our money to and maybe we can get some better quality restaurants?

Update still not worth it go to other hyashi 82 nd this one is not it… 89 dollars later rice bland, missing items, meat over cooked. Not sure 25 bucks for a plate Togo is really worth it. Maybe have a Togo plate a little cheaper because no show and possibility of being incorrect. Overall very nice staff and bartender. Also very quick service.

The waitress was sweet. The girls at the door were rude. The sashimi was cut much thicker than other places I have had sashimi. The sushi at United and HEB is higher quality. I hope that they were simply having an off day.

Would not go back. The service was great! The server was polite and checked on us often. The restaurant as a whole was clean and up to date. The food was not great. It wasn't the worse I had.

Picked up a to-go on Monday evening (Dec. 16) around 6pm. Maybe I shouldn’t go Mondays, but as a regular visitor I was floored by the quality and lack of service this time. My salmon and shrimp were way overcooked (hard and chewy instead of flaky) and my veggies were nearly raw (I don’t mind cooked veggies with a bit of snap but this was not that). Lastly, the Nigiri usually have a good sized mound of rice for the fish, think large snack carrot sized. This time it was a tiny amount that didn’t even fit the white tuna. Husband was unimpressed with his salmon maki rolls which are usually great, the salmon was really chewy. Service was non-existent, two people maintained a conversation about their New Years’ plans instead of taking care of our order for an awkward amount of time. The whole experience was off putting and surprising to us. I’m not sure if we’ll go back for a while.

I had decent expectations walking in due to other reviews. Small portions and high prices. We ordered soft shell crab which was not good, hibachi was way overpriced also not very tasty the fried rice was essentially steamed rice with a little bit of soy sauce and some egg bits. It was not awful but overall we are disappointed. DO NOT GET THE CRAB OR THE SPIDER ROLL YOU WILL NOT BE SATIFIED WITH THE FOOD OR PRICE!

Ive been here many of times had great food and great service but today was horrible. Had a sever named Amanda, was great at first till she got an attitude. She obviously entered my order wrong and then blamed me saying I should have "specified". I did"specify" and pointed on the menu what I wanted, once she delivered the roll to the table she told us what each roll was but by looking at it I knew the roll was incorrect because IVE HAD THE ROLL MANY OF TIMES. I had to pay for a roll i did not want nor did I eat. She tried to argue with me and tell me it was my fault.

We loved the atmosphere, but the food was a disappointment. The Hibachi steak, chicken, shrimp were covered teriyaki sauce. This is the worst food I have ever head at a Japanese Steakhouse house. The food was very bland and lacked of flavor.

I actually liked the sushi until I had the worst customer service experience of my life. They asked me to my face if I was going to tip them. Two of the employees repeatedly made rude comments about me to each other while I was in hearing range. I asked the one who was ringing me up if I could speak to a manager and he just said no. I then asked why and he shrugged his shoulders and walked away. If I could rate them a 0 then I would.

I just came to pickup the order I placed on the phone and the hostess at the front desk was the absolute RUDEST chick I’ve ever met. I didn’t even say anything besides asked where to pick up and she copped the nastiest attitude about it. Idk. I work in customer service, I get having a bad day, but maybe having someone with severe RBF ‘greeting’ people isn’t the move.

I called to place a to go order and the lady who picked up the phone either wasn’t listening or kept interrupting when i was ordering and she didn’t even listen to our order. I decided to just not even eat there anymore because it’s not worth the going back and forth. The first time I placed an order in the physical store, they forgot to put every single entrée we ordered in our bag. They then refused to answer our calls afterwards and replace the food until we had to drive back another 10 mins and tell them in person they didn’t give us all our food. Terrible service, I wouldn’t recommend if you wanted something easy. Go to the Hayashi on 82nd for better service and food.

The host was great, we were promptly seated. However that’s where our great experience ended, the restaurant was pretty busy and looking around it seemed like the waiter was taking care of everyone but us. After 25 minutes of not being acknowledged even for a drink order we just got up and left and came to Hayashi on 82nd. Our experience has been much better despite being equally as busy. We were seated and had our drinks and appetizers in less than 10 minutes.

I ordered to go towards the end of the night. Idk if was because it was close to closing or what but after bringing it home to eat (about a 5 minute drive) it tasted gross. It was like the fish was a few days old and not cleaned correctly. Ended up only eating a few pieces and then going to get fast food not wanting to risk getting sick. The soup was good if that's any consolation.

Order was incorrect and so was the table next to us. Service was ridiculously slow with only 4 tables occupied. Finished my drink when food arrived and only got a refill after I was done with my meal. Took forever for waiter to collect payment. Food was mediocre. Not sure if this location is owned by the same people on 82nd but that food is good this food is very bland and portions are small. I had time to write and rewrite this review several times before they ever collected payment.

If I could give zero stars I would. Spent $40 on doordash and this is what they think is okay to serve to people? I also found a hair in my vegetables. I couldn’t even eat the food I ordered. I will never order from here again.

Hayashi Midtown offers a standard Japanese dining experience that can be hit-or-miss. While the hibachi provides entertainment, the food itself sometimes falls short, with reports of overcooked steak and bland fried rice. Sushi is decent but not exceptional, occasionally lacking that fresh, vibrant flavor. It's an acceptable spot if you're nearby and have a craving, but it may not wow you. The experience is often more about the show than the culinary substance.

The pieces of chicken I ate was good up until I found a semi long strand of hair in my food, then I was just disappointed. It was buried in the food so I didn't touch the rest and threw it away, double check those hairnets next time, guys.
