Opiniones de Walter’s Mamaroneck
They have the best hot dogs in town! (Maybe even in the country) Their mustard is also really good, I'd recommend getting a light amount of on your hot dog. Their fries and even their ice cream are also top tier. I haven't had anything from here that I didn't like. I've also been here around 100 times in my life and the quality has always been great.
Can't beat the way these dogs are cooked and Walters mustard. I usually order a double, curly fries and a black and white shake. It's easy to see why there are post cards from all over the world raving about their hot dogs. Every time I go it's like a new experience all over again.
One of a kind historic place. Fast efficient service. My 94 year old dad loves the hotdogs and black and white milkshakes. He's been getting them all his life. Makes him happy when I bring them to him. (:
What better way to start the first day of Spring! Any season, month, week, the classic Walter's hot dogs! Helpful hint: if you are eating there (right away) a regular bun is good; however, if you are taking it to go, spend the extra for the pretzel roll because it holds up better. The potato puffs are actually more like the most delightful potato kinish bites ever. Always pick up a bottle of their mustard, share it with everyone, and be a star. Grab a black and white malt and use it as a guilty pleasure day! Work it off later...it is well worth the euphoria. Also...I heard someone complaining that you have to cross a busy street to get there and there should be a crosswalk cars would have to stop for. That would be dangerous since it is on a curve and would cause accidents. There is a parking lot if you don't want to street park.
Nice place to go. Unfortunately they only carry pork hot dogs. I’m they have been in business for so long and the business has flourished that I don’t think they will add any turkey or chicken hotdogs in their menu at this point
Delicious hot dogs! Awesome house-made mustard
One of the best hot dogs in the country! It's a national historic site, with hotdogs that are so simply delicious. Worth driving out of your way for. Try the mustard!
Today I visited Walter's for the first time. I'm from Mississippi and I drive trucks for a living. I watch of Food Paradise so I actually wanted to see what the hype was about and I understand that it wasn't hype, but facts. I had a Chilli cheese dog that was amazing. I could go about the food but I want just visit the place and try it for yourself. Thanks for the great dog
An institution! Great outdoor seating. Love the dogs. Lots of dessert options.
Classic hot dog stand. Hot dogs were A+
This place is iconic in the food industry. You will not find a better hot dog anywhere. It is truly unique to Walter's. There is no inside, so you just walk up to the window and place your order. They do have many picnic tables, so seating is not really an issue. Parking is limited in the back and street, but you can find a spot most days.
The owners, down to the workers, are so nice and helpful. I'm a transplant to the area, and the hotdogs are amazing. Make sure you get a couple of hot dogs because you will want more. Mix and match it's delicious.
We were out looking at houses and exploring the Mamaroneck area as we are considering moving to the area and we randomly saw this joint that had a nearly 5 star rating so we decided to give it a try! And boy are we happy we did!! The hot dogs are great, though small. The double hot dog is more appropriate for an adult and you’ll likely need 2 (or more). The curly fries are AWESOME! We got one curly and one regular fry to compare and there is no comparison. While both are good, the curly fries blow the regular outta da water!! Then for dessert…. Of sweet sweet dessert…. We got the Funnel Cake Fries. OMG. Next time, i’m getting my own order! Screw sharing! 🤣 In fact, when we move to the area, I will be coming here just to get the funnel cake fries! Service was super fast and friendly and there are tons of place to sit outside and eat. NOTE: This is a walk up service counter, not a traditional restaurant! The parking area is gravel and decent sized, so I suspect it could hold quite a few cars before becoming too stressful. They also have multiple food trucks and another location. So you have lots of options to try this place! I highly recommend this place and can’t think of a single serious complaint. Well it is a little pricey… but not so pricey that I won’t go regularly! Can’t wait to try some of their other offerings! A++++
2 Double Hot Dogs with Ketchup and a Medium Coke! Love it every time!
Love this place! Best hot dog within 100 miles of NYC. Been coming here forever. Please tell your young servers that a "double with" only has one meaning. It means "with mustard," and it has meant that for 50 years. "With" means Walter's mustard.
Of course it's a classic establishment in Westchester. The hot dogs are really good. The shakes are really good. The fries are really good. My only recommendation is to not have all three at one meal. Two out of three and You won't feel sick to your stomach after. All three, and even though I enjoy it while I'm eating it, I always feel a little ill in the end. Moderation folks!
Just coming from Kennedy Airport and on our way home to Connecticut, we stopped at this National Historic Landmark. There is plenty of parking spaces in the back of the restaurant. The people there were very nice to us. The service was fairly fast. The food came out hot! The fries, puffy dog, single dogs, and potato puffs were very good. My kids had a puppy dog that had the perfect size for young kids or toddlers. The only thing that we found a little pricey was the shakes.
No surprise to me & my sister that this place was nothing short of amazing. 100+ years of hot dogs and it shows. Service was great, they were quick, & the double puffy dogs we ordered were absolutely delicious. With these you don’t get that awful “hot dog breath” or “hot dog burps” or any of that other gross indigestion. They are good quality & I am definitely looking forward to my next visit there.
Excellent split, cut side grilled, hot dogs. Not too salty or oily Prep is simple, not many choices, and the mustard is the house specialty, though it wasn't that distinct, to my tastes. Old styled cream sodas and curly fries were both excellent. The place was very quiet in the winter, but has a large outdoor seating area. I'm sure the locals would like to keep this gem a secret, but don't let them!
Walter's is a place that should be on everyone's bucket list. This hot dog stand is approaching 100 years old (1928). And yes the hot dogs are awesome, Best in NY! Updated 3-23-2025 Nothing changed! and that is the best compliment. Ventured away from the famous dog w mustard and got a chili dog.....Mmmmmm
I have been following Walter's hot dogs for while now on Instagram. So I was beyond excited to be in the same area at lunch time! I never been to the area so it was neat to see was in more of residential area and it was legit walk up hot dog stand with Asian flare... I order a double dog... With the famous walters brown mustard. They put two cut hotdogs in one bun. Along with nicely seasoned curly fries. For a drink I order a frozen watermelon drink. Made with fresh watermelon not just syrup flavoring. Such amazing hot dog joint!! No wonder its been around since 1919!!!!
I don't do hot dogs. I'm sorry. I'm sure Walter's kills it in that department. The churro and waffle fries are all I'm here to talk to you about. Fried batter and sugar. That's all we need. Staff was super friendly and I think if you tip they go a bit heavy handed with the powdered and cinnamon sugar. Strongly recommend. I mean tip all the time anyway but it is nice to feel rewarded
Keeping in mind that star ratings are all relative, for a hot dog stand on the side of the road, this place is the best! I've been eating Walter's hot dogs since the early '80s, in the business is now a historic landmark, over 120 years old! They've expanded recently into food trucks (which provide an equally good dog) , and have a nice little seating area in the back picnic grounds.
Nice spot that’s been around 100+ years. I didn’t find the prices to be crazy as others have said and everything was tasty. Curly fries were great too. Outdoor seating with shade made for a pleasant lunchtime spot.
I've been coming to Walter's since high school (1957-1961), and almost nothing has changed since then except the prices and a few menu items. I come back here whenever I'm back in Westchester. It's still delicious and reasonably priced. Places like Walter's are becoming scarce, and split, grilled hotdogs are becoming scarcer still. I just love the flavor of Walter's dogs, especially the chili dogs; it's iconic in the same way as Nathan's to the point that if I'm really hungry, I can easily eat 3 or 4.
On our way to MA and this spot popped up on our road tripper app as a must stop. Great spot for hot dogs, fries, shakes, ice cream and my fave...funnel cake sticks! Only condiments they offer are mustard, ketchup and mayo which were aok for us. Hot dogs are split down the middle and griddle fried and their fries are perfection in a cup. The funnel cake sticks are crazy addictive. Nice outdoor seating area and ordering and picking up food is easy and safe. Will for sure be stopping any time we are on our way northeast!
I always enjoy coming to Walters. Especially during the fall season when the leaves fall and change colors. Their outdoor seating area is so beautiful and well kept. I just wish people didn’t feed the birds while others are dining. I got two classic dogs with ketchup and some curly fries with aioli sauce! Of course you have to have an Arnold Palmer with it!
It was love at 1st bite!! This place is a local staple, but somehow, I've missed the opportunity to take my son here until last nite. He has vowed never to eat a hot dog from anywhere but here again. He went ALL IN: chili dog, cheese fries, potatoe puffs, and an Arnold Palmer. Every morsel was devoured and thoroughly enjoyed. This will be his new pit stop on the way home when he visits my office. Seriously, if you have NEVER been put Walters on your list. it's got a great picnic vibe, the most reasonable prices I've seen in a while, and super family-friendly
Walters is definitely top 5 hot dogs in NY. They have such a good snap when you bite in, they are so juicy and the homemade mustard is amazing. The outdoor seating area is so chill especially on a summer day. I love walters and recommend them to anyone who loves a good dog !
I’m writing this review for two reasons: 1. Walters is perfection. It’s in between my husband and I house in PA and our best friends house CT. We stop EVERY DAMN TIME we drive there. The hot dogs are perfection (we legit compare every hot dog we have to them), the fries are perfect, the black & white milkshake is outrageously amazing (get it extra thick). They also have a CRISP Diet Coke, for those who understand that lifestyle. I normally get a regular dog and my husband gets the puffy dog and we eat them in maybe one minute flat because they are so good. We also get a pack to go and have gotten them as gifts and everyone always loves them. On top of great hot dogs, I just love the adorable atmosphere! 2. I rarely write reviews but just saw the 2 star review by David and have never been more upset by a slanderous review in my life. The tip thing is on you David because while we worked in the service industry and normally tip 22%, I can promise you that you can change it. Walter’s has been 105+ years and I assume it will be around another 105+ years.
What a cool adventure to get the Walter hot dog. It totally lived up to the hype. We are looking forward to our next visit.
I was skeptical since many places say that their hot dogs are great and try too hard. But this place blew me away with how simple it is. Everything just makes sense and doesn’t over-complicate a dog, a bun, and some condiments. Well-made, great service. We parked right on the street and they have seating out back. This is a national landmark historic booth so don’t expect an indoor space. The puffy dog is great and the milkshakes are crafted well.
The staff were extremely kind and helpful! The hot dog itself was pretty good and the fries were very flavorful! The only thing I didnt enjoy was the cheese sauce as it was very bland. Otherwise, it was a great experience and very affordable.
Walter's hot dogs. It is the only place that I will eat three I wish I had more lol. They also have a hot apple cider with whipped cream and all was delicious. It was the perfect meal after a long flight home
We’ve been wanting to try this spot for a long time, and finally got to do it this past weekend. We knew that these were some of the best hot dogs in town, and had to give them a try. And they really were delicious! Their hot dogs are perfectly made and have an amazing taste. Their New England clam chowder is absolutely stunning as well as their milkshakes. The hot dogs are a good size, and someone could easily eat two or three for themselves. There’s plenty of parking in the parking lot and there are a lot of tables to sit and enjoy the food outside. We will definitely be coming back again soon!
Where to begin? Let’s start with their mustard, just fantastic. Butter toasted hotdog buns, WOW! Why have I not been butter toasting my hotdog buns all these years, just amazing. The hotdog had great char on it, the whole package was simply wonderful. Probably the best hotdog I’ve had this year if not ever. The chocolate peanut butter milkshake was really good too. Super friendly staff, definitely worth the 335 mile round trip on this fine fall day.
Hands down the best hot dogs around, and bonus points for being served by friendly staff with a great attitude. The food is consistently good - I’ve literally never had a bad hot dog here (and I’ve had more than I’d like to admit). I’m not a “hot dog person,” but there’s something about Walter’s that’s unbeatable. A true local legend and one of the must stop spots I bring anyone visiting from out of town.
Walters has always been our favorite hotdog spot, and we always knew we wanted to incorporate them into our wedding weekend. We held our rehearsal party at our favorite ice cream shop on site at our venue, and served Walters as our dinner. I was so happy to finally show all my friends and family how delicious Walters is, SO many people went back for seconds. Working with their team was so easy and fun, we had the best experience and were so happy they could drive up to Suffield. As life-long fans, we were so grateful they were available on our wedding weekend. We highly recommend using their food truck for your next event!
I can't believe I grew up in westchester and never knew about this gem! My fiancee and I drove all the way from poughkeepsie just so I could try these world-famous hot dogs, and wow, they did not disappoint. The puffy dog was incredible, and that mustard was out of this world! The potato puffs were def my fave, tho. They also have a really nice area to sit and enjoy your delectable dogs. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. We will most definitely be coming back soon!
What a great spot! There’s tons of parking in a gravel lot around the back and a few tables with benches on the side for outdoor dining. The place itself just a small stand but our pick-up order was ready super quickly. There’s also a bathroom attached to the restaurant, which is nice. The hot dogs were tasty and we liked the mustard. The potato puffs were perfectly crispy and and had soft potato fillings. We loved the french fries and how crispy they were and were glad we splurged for the chipotle aioli. Our milkshakes were also fantastic and the clam chowder was loaded with clam pieces. Super tasty! Just be cautious of the squirrels in the outdoor eating area — they were very brave and a little unsettling. We had to make noises to scare them off at some points during our meal.
It was my first experience having these hot dogs and they were well worth the experience. It has an ambiance that is not over the top while being designated as a National treasure. The curly fries 🍟 were excellent as well. So if you are willing to get something that you can have an experience around then visit Walter's especially if you are in the Westchester area.
Walter’s is a legendary landmark in my hometown. I still return when I can, and their hot dogs remain the best I’ve ever tasted. Best bet: order a double dog, with their mustard of course. Get some curly fries to go with it. They’ve made upgrades over the years like with the picnic tables out back, but the food remains as consistently incredible as ever.
EXCELLENT hot dogs! We drove 1.5 hours to try Walter's and it was well worth the trip. Friendly staff and fun place to visit. The pretzel buns added a nice touch to the hot dogs. We strongly recommend. Don't forget to treat yourself to a cool T-shirt! I bought one and I love it! The Shirley Temple specialty drink was delicious and so refreshing too!
Cool place has been here since the 20's. Great hot dogs the only thing missing in my opinion is sauerkrat. They don't serve sauerkrat, besides that it's great!!
Seldom do my wife and I eat "fast foods" but we both had a hankering for a hotdog and Walters Hot Dogs reputation is well known. There was a long line, but it moved very quickly. I was a little disappointed that we couldn't customize our dogs in any way. Normally I just get a dog with onions and mustard, but that was not an option. My wife like a good chili cheese dog, and that was not available either. The fries were good, not much to add there.
I’m really torn. It’s a cool place that is significant to the locals and everyone is really friendly. The hot dogs are great, the mustard is nice, and their outdoor seating is great. What I struggle with is that at the end of the day it’s just a pretty good hot dog, and I don’t really see a way to justify the prices. I’d rather have a lot of regular hot dogs than just one or two pretty good hot dogs. It’s worth coming once and deciding for yourself if it’s worth it. A lot of people seem to think it is; they sure do get busy.
Fun Historical Location to visit, expect a line. Nothing exciting about the hot dog, their mustard was tasty, and sweet potato waffle fries were nice and crispy. Fun to say you have been just like any other long standing roadside attraction. Wish we had tried the ice cream or special drinks, reviews say they're great.
Est. 1928 Layout/atmosphere *Pagoda style decor; metal picnic tables to left of stand for outdoor dining; parking lot in back Food/drink *Single on Bavarian pretzel bun (with mustard) - Good; toasted bun; hot dog sliced in half long ways; nice snap *Puffy Dog (hot dog with potato puffs) - Good; taste of deep fried mashed potatoes
Delicious and worth the stop! Plenty of parking and seating. Cornhole/bags kept the kids occupied. The birds and squirrels were a little intimidating but stayed away as we ate. (Don't sit next to the trash can or prepare to be startled.)
Local Westchester fave! Also a National Registered Historical Landmark. Been doing their thing since 1919. The dogs are always good! They currently have a couple of extras that you order - chilli and cheese sauce. They have 2 locations in Westchester - the original in Mamaroneck and another in White Plains. They also have a few food trucks that they take to markets and are available for private functions. The menu is heavily dog and fry focused. For seating, there is a lovely outdoor area with picnic tables and large umbrellas. Be warned, birds hang out in the seating area to snack on food items thrown away or dropped on the ground etc. There is a free parking lot behind the street-side building in Mamaroneck. The ordering and picking up is very quick, so hard to judge service levels.
Hot Dogs are unlike any other I’ve had. The quality is top notch and fresh. While picking up your order the staff can be a little rude otherwise the the outdoor dining experience is pretty cool. There is no indoor dining. The establishment offers a variety of sides which are really good; curly or regular French fries. The establishment also prepares milkshakes, which are incredibly good. This community staple is highly recommended. Don’t allow the rude cashier ruin what could be the best experience ever.
The hot dogs are very good, don't get me wrong. But I don't understand how a hot dog place doesn't have optional toppings like sauerkraut, onions, or even chili! It would be like Five Guys only offering ketchup or mustard and no other toppings on their burgers. It makes zero sense. I understand the place has been around a long time and that it's an icon, but it could be so much better with those simple additions. That's basically the reason that I only eat at Walter's a few times a year as opposed to weekly! I'd opt for a sabrett truck or cart given the option so I can have something on my hot dog other than mustard. Their mustard is also very good by the way, but it's just not enough.
The hot dogs are beyond average. The price is above average. There is a 20% tip suggestion. For what? This isn't an indoor dining establishment. You're not serving me food. You're handing me hot dogs in a paper bag through a window. Why does that deserve a 20% tip on top of the already overpriced hot dogs?
Honestly, I think this place is cute, very cool the history and the building. But it can be confusing, I think it is very aimed at locals of the town, I came here from Long Island because my sister was getting surgery at a surgery center nearby. My dad and I saw a bit on this place and heard it was amazing. I thought it was good, but nothing insane. The sausage you eat is good and different, but I felt the ketchup ruin the hot dog. We gave it another try and got it with just mustard also second time the worker was very nice and helpful. They have a lot of seasonal stuff but I feel like it would not be anything special, I tried a cowboy shake vanilla, got to say that was very good, wanted to try the pumpkin one but felt it wasn't probably nothing special. The puffy dog I got to say was good and I would say maybe be the winner, it was a nice mix and the puffy potatoes on it were very good mix with the hot dog. Egg cream was ok first time, second a lot better. But nothing insane. So honestly in my ramble I would say it is worth a try and visit for the building alone, but it isn't anything great. Also be warn going around the school year, I guess school allows High Schoolers to leave anytime by foot so it was crowded with high schoolers who lack manners. But workers were awesome and kept everyone inline. Got to give it to them, this place gets slam by workers, students, and just hungry people like me during the lunch hours. I also think this place is better around 12, right when they open the hot dogs tasted very steamed/boil and rubbery but the second time went around 12 and it was much better. Mustard is also very good. Also both times they forgot to give an item, they were very nice and understanding but it is annoying, it seems they make to order so it's a bit annoying. Again I wanna push and say I think they have too many flavors you don't know what is miss, or what is a hit. Still think the puffy dog so far is top! Final verdict: Walter's is very good, but nothing insane to me, it is different for sure, I feel the menu is a bit too big and even borderline overwhelming, too much special drinks, wasn't sure what shake to get, what refresher, what seasonal blah blah, I think they cater to locals to keep it fresh, a cool youtuber I watch said plain dogs were the best, but I have to say the puffy dog was king, also the fires were very tasty. I think this place is good, worth a visit, but it isn't anything insane. It is a cool building, a beautiful part of NY but that's really it to me. Also all the merch is cute and you can order it online! Some menu items also I feel are bit overpriced, and I feel like some of descriptions of food items are a bit wrong on the menu.
I wanted to like this place as I'm a fan of locals spots with history. But everything was just mediocre and overpriced. Had a single hot dog, creamsicle cowboy shake (could barely taste the orange flavor), and potato puffs (fried mashed potatoes; I'd say regular mashed potatoes tastes better so the fried part doesn't add anything for me.) I wouldn't return.
Stopped today to introduce my granddaughter to Walter's Hot Dogs. She was delighted with the experience and amazed how a simple hot dog could taste so delicious. The shake and fries added to the overall happiness of our lunch. Good job, Walters... Our family is now on the 4th generation of this hot dog tradition.
We have not been here in 50 years. The grilled sliced in half Frank footer surrounded by a toasted bun was delicious. They're mustard is also very good. But we do have to say that the hot dog we ate was only worth $1.06 that We paid. It's my understanding that these hot dogs are $3.50 and that's highway robbery. The place is still the same and I can't imagine that the property taxes are so high that they have to charge this kind of money for a hot dog and how much can hot dogs have gone up from the manufacturer. These folks can lower their prices significantly and keep the beverages not too high and still make a ton of money. Yes everything was delicious and I need to start making hot dogs with sauerkraut, onions, and beans. There needs to be some variety. To put chili on it they want it up charge of 1.65. That's way out of whack. If you want to pay that kind of money then go right ahead but it's not worth it.
Stop here for an interesting snack. We got the double, a single with no bun, small pigs in a blanket, churro fries, egg cream, and a root beer cowboy shake. The single was a complete waste, nothing to it is small and doesn't even taste that good. The egg cream is just strange, it's hard to describe, something that will be enjoyed by some and hated by others. The double was good with ketchup and mustard. The pigs in a blanket were actually very nice, the pastry that is used to wrap them is light and fluffy and just a hint of sweetness to match the savory in the hot dog. The churro fries were ok and more of a have to try it at least once, county fair, type thing. The cowboy shake was a complete waste it was thinner than most shakes that i have had, but the taste was definitely root beer as a shake so I do have to give them that. Unfortunately they were not offering the puffy dog of the mashed potato fries when we were here, we would have liked to try them.
There is a 20%/25%/30% tip recommendation at checkout. For a takeout ONLY hot dog stand that won't even put the mustard on your hot dog for you. They hand you plain mustard packets in the bag, and expect a possible 30% tip for that. Please make this make sense.
Only because it's winter! Best enjoyed in their yard with their famous shakes. Good fries too! But thd chili (good too) dogs in the plastic take out (steaming?) were like eating soup with your hands! What a mess.
I cannot believe this. The best??? Who said that? Maybe the ONLY hot dog stand. Certainly not the best. Curly fries were good. Should just order curly fries, and that says something……
This places calls out to your heart. But after you order. You quickly snap back to reality. They stand over you & wait for you to tip on the machine 22% minimum ($50 + $10tip). So decided to get the dogs in the raw package and see if they taste better at home. But while there try to capture the old school feeling with burnt potato puffs (they changed them to $7 tater tots). Pretzel dog w/ meatless chili & tasteless cheese. And a regular dog w/ more meatless chili. Then tried a Flat egg, chocolate chip float thingy. This place has fallen hard. And may close down sooner that later.
I prefer my hot dogs to be all beef not mixed with different animals. It had a weird texture
