This is a hidden gem. Don't be put off by its location because everything else makes up for it. I believe the owner's name is Ken. You can tell he takes pride in his food and maintains to keep it authentic. Well a Yogini Friend of mine that is from Mexico tried it out and said yes it is authentic. So fast forward a couple of weeks as a result of her recommendation. The Food will NOT disappoint, the prices in line with similar businesses and the service was not only charming but they allowed me to try my limited use of Spanish. I will go back. With the weather being warm, great Mexican music playing in the background and eating freshly made food, I felt a 1000 miles away. Please try this place out!

While the price point seemed a bit steep for a tiny venue for “street tacos”, the portion size is very generous which I think justifies it (4 tacos with tons of meat, or a huge quesadilla with tons of meat - my school age kids could easily share the latter and have enough). The traditional tacos were authentic and absolutely incredible. The venue was cute and staff were very friendly. The one downside (and why I’m giving 4 stars for service) is that for a place that does a large volume of take out, I was disappointed to receive a plastic take out container. It’s 2025 - please invest in cardboard/compostable containers and cutlery. This is a a deterrent for me returning.

I will be solely going here for tacos from now on. Authentic, flavorful, delicious tacos. I just wish they had a bit better outdoor seating, which is my only complaint. Everyone seems to like Marlo tacos in the area, but this place is leaps and bounds ahead of it.

Edmonton’s best kept secret. Small and quaint, definitely worth a visit. The Birria and Carnitas tacos are simple, but packed with flavor.

Unreal tacos. The homemade tortillas really make them supreme. Seating is limited but it makes for an intimate experience with a few friends. Already planning my next visit.

Delicious tacos. I went with a group of colleagues for lunch. The food was fresh and flavourful, including what we think were homemade taco shells. We took our food back to the office to eat and we all wished we had ordered more.

Try this little back alley spot. Its a gem. I love the quesadilla. They have expanded their patio for heated winter dining. Also over-heard they are expending to the spot next door!

Me and my spouse have been searching for authentic Mexican tacos in Edmonton for years. We have tried many restaurants and went here on a whim one day to see what it was about and we were floored. We left having eaten 6 tacos each. My spouse is from Mexico and is like a professional taco critic at this point and he absolutely loved it. The atmosphere felt like Mexico, the servers were so kind, and the food was delicious.

UNBELIEVABLY good!! Would leave more than 5 stars if possible! The staff is incredibly friendly and our food was the best we’ve ever tried! Came on taco Tuesday and prices were very reasonable for portion sizes :)

A quaint taco stand in an alley gave me the perfect “street taco” vibe. Upon entering, the gentleman at the register was so welcoming and answered any questions that we had. The tacos were DELICIOUS! Smaller location that is good for a quick pickup and there is some seating. The tacos were out of this world! The pastor was the favorite and was full of flavor. The tortillas were freshly made for order and we went home full with 4 tacos to order each.

Ate the food too fast to take a picture. Dine-in area is super small (1 table and a small high-top along 1 wall) - I think most people do take out.

Easily one of the top, if not the top, taquerias in Edmonton. A welcome addition to the Edmonton Mexican food scene. The tacos are simple and absolutely delicious. They gave me flashbacks of joy to Mexico City street tacos. Their tortillas are fresh and homemade, a little thicker than most but they have nice chew and there's no need to double them up. Their hot sauce is unique to them and most importantly every taco we tried was delicious (carnitas, suadero, al pastor, and carne asada). I'm looking forward to seeing this place expand and become a staple for us when we're craving tacos, which is all the time.

Best tacos in Edmonton, and honestly some of the best tacos I’ve ever had (and I’m from New Mexico). I’m not sure because I didn’t ask, but I think the tortillas were handmade as well. And everything there is gluten free except the churros!

This place has probably the best Tacos in Canada ive ever tried. Im born and raised in Mexico City and I can confidently say that this place offers the best/most authentic tacos you could find. It taste like home made food which is incredibly hard to find. The service is always incredibe, food is always 10/10. Ive tried tacos across Canada, from Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Victoria, Toronto, and even here in Edmonton, and this place is by far the best and its not even close. If you want REAL authentic Mexican Tacos this is the place to go to.

WOW. Definitely one of the top spots for tacos in the city, authentic flavours, great value for quantity and quality. Their location is a hole in the wall in one of the best ways. They do have limited seating, only one table and a couple of benches along the wall - good spot for takeout (they also have no bathrooms). Great to support local ! I’d definitely come back.

These are the best tacos I've ever had outside of a foreign country. Their chorizo empanadas are so good! And the biria is delicious as well. Although there isn't a lot of space to sit, especially in the winter, in the summer time they have a lovely set up in their parking lot to eat tacos outside! I hope one day they have a bigger restaurant so people can come enjoy with more friends at once. But I also want to say I love the hole-in-the-wall vibe they currently have. It makes me feel like the quality of their food is better because they aren't rushing orders or trying to fill a dining room. It's more like street food, but because we are in Canada they need a little spot to hide from the cold. Once found, this spot would be anyone's favourite taco place.

These are the tastiest tacos I have had in Edmonton. Perfect flavour in every bite. Amazing empanadas as well. Very small inside and not a ton of places to sit, can't wait to come back in summer and eat outside!

The restaurant is very small - a table and a counter with some stools, so you may need take your meal to go. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent. I had the empanadas with the tequila lime chicken and the hibiscus water and I would highly recommend both menu items. My husband got the traditional tacos with chorizo filling and the horchata, which he thoroughly enjoyed. If you get the chance please check them out.

We decided to do takeaway but if you’re lucky to get a seat at the table or the bar, the atmosphere and music just add to the experience! 100% will be back next time we’re in Edmonton.

THE BEST TACOS IN THE CITY!!! We found the restaurant on google and didn’t know what to expect, but the stellar and 5 star reviews are spot on and the food did not disappoint! I was able to try 4 different types of their tacos and each one was amazing in its own ways. The Pastor Taco however, WAS OUT OF THIS WORLDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!! The pork was extremely tender and perfectly seasoned. This taco alone was probably one of best, if not THEE best taco I’ve ever had!

This place is AMAZING!! They have a Taco Tuesday discount, so we got 3 different types of tacos (four per order). The price for the amount of food we got was very reasonable. We tried the birria, pastor, and tequila lime chicken. They were all delicious, especially the birria (but I would happily eat any of them again)! The service was excellent, and even though the place is small, the vibes were great! They had fun Mexican music playing and cute decor. This has definitely been the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in Edmonton!

Don’t let the outside fool you, this little spot is a true hidden gem. You have to go behind the main street to find it, but it is so worth it. These are hands down the best tacos I’ve had in Edmonton. The carne asada and birria were perfectly seasoned, packed with meat, and their hot sauce? Absolutely to die for. This cozy and warmly decorated spot is tucked away off the alley parking lot, it's more of a grab-and-go setup with limited seating along the walls and one small table. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. Although there was a slight language barrier, the waitress confirmed my gluten-free requirements with the kitchen. The quesadillas use flour tortillas and the fish tacos are battered, but fried in separate oil from the chips, which are gluten-free. The churros also appear to be fried separately, though I recommend confirming with staff, as communication around this point was a bit unclear. I shared the chips and salsa and a mix of Traditional Tacos (Pastor, Suadero, Carnita, and Carne Asada). The handmade corn tortillas were soft, thick, and absolutely delicious. I also appreciated being able to choose two proteins per taco order and not having to include rice or beans. Tacos were garnished with cilantro, onion, and lime wedge - which is all you need because the meats were so flavourful! For those with Celiac, I suggest visiting during non-peak hours so the small kitchen has time to manage cross-contact carefully. By 5:30 pm, there was already a line out the door, which speaks to how popular this place is. The staff mentioned plans to expand into a larger space soon, which is great news, as I’d love to bring my coworkers here once they can take reservations. Can't wait to come back! ❤️

This place is solid if you want a true representation of Mexican tacos. I have had the carne asada and the carnitas tacos so far and I will continue to work my way through the menu. The corn tortillas are freshly pressed and Ken is upbeat and friendly. I am looking forward to off menu pop up specialties on weekends.

The girl who served us was so sweet, and the food was some of the best Mexican we’ve ever had—and we’re from BC, where we’ve enjoyed plenty of great eats. I recently went with my family to Taqueria El Chingon. I had the taco al pastor, while the rest of my family ordered the birria tacos and carne asada. To wash it all down, we had some Mexican Coke. We spent around $63, which was fairly reasonable considering the generous amount of meat in each taco. The taco al pastor was absolutely delicious — the meat was perfectly seasoned, and the fresh pineapple added a nice sweetness and depth of flavor. I also had the pleasure of trying the birria and carne asada tacos, which were just as flavorful as the al pastor. What really stood out to me was the excellent customer service. The lady who took our order was polite and attentive. She made sure we had everything we needed, like extra salsa and napkins, and went out of her way to ensure we had a great dining experience. The ambience of the restaurant made it feel like we were in a traditional taqueria. Overall, my family and I had an amazing experience at Taqueria El Chingon. The food was excellent and perfectly cooked. I highly recommend this place as your go-to taco spot in Edmonton.

My new favorite taco spot! So far, I've tried 3 different traditional style tacos: tequila lime chicken, Carne Asada, and Suadero. All 3 kinds were so delicious I can't decide which is my favorite. The service is great and the atmosphere is very positive and I like the decor.

Delicious tacos (they have a taco night). Went mid-day for an early dinner. Flavourful tacos (we had pescado and pastor) with good toppings, but sometimes my tortilla didn't hold together for the entire meal. I enjoy how they give you the option of hot or mild and the tacos we got came with a bit of hot sauce.

The food here in was good (perhaps I was an idiot expecting a restaurant in the university district) Decided to give it a go. The menu was pretty simple, but their fryer broke down. Which took away about 1/3rd of the menu choices. The dining area indoors was small with a single table (and counter space with a couple of bar stools); two picnic tables outside. The food was made to order and I really appreciated the home made tortillas with masa aswell. Good food and would suggest for a quick bite to eat if your solo or with a couple of friends. Little cramped for my tastes, but they definatley make do with the space they have. Seems like a popular joint. Staff and cook were friendly and helpful. Doesn't seem to be licensed so drinks were off the table, but did offer a good selection of jarritos (pop), might visit again, with different expectations than the first visit

Tequila chicken tacos: incredibly salty. Couldn’t really see past that. Chorizo tacos: these were good. Felt there could have been a bit more toppings. Chips & guac: home made tortilla chips. Guac was delicious. Paid $55 for these 3 things. Felt a bit steep. Glad we tried it out though. Service: great. No complaints here. Atmosphere: tough to make it comfortable when it’s so small. It was cozy though.

The freshly made tortillas are a definite plus, and there’s no doubt this is 100% authentic Mexican cuisine. However, here’s the "but": the service left a lot to be desired. I’m not sure if it was just an unusually busy day, but we were treated with a total lack of empathy, even as fellow countrymen. I suppose it’s that "curse" some Mexican immigrants face from their own. In my personal opinion, poor service really takes away from how good the food is. I would have given the food a 5/5 because, despite the bitter experience with the staff, the flavors were amazing—delicious and authentic. My recommendation: Order through a delivery app or call ahead for pickup so you can enjoy the food without the hassle.

Not what I was expecting had high hopes. Corn tortillas were good, onions toppings were nice But Cmon $36 total for 4 street tacos and a pop is absurd even with inflation. I never complain about prices but I’m sure my order must’ve covered at least 2 weeks of his rent. The place is so crammed and on a cold day there is a freezing draft coming in the door way. Not bad overall. We ordered suadero tacos (probably the best thing they have), carnitas tacos (not bad, but not the best), and empanadas, which usually come with cheese, but these didn’t. The music was very loud, the place is pretty small, and the service was just okay. No estuvo mal en general. Meh. If you like your tacos topped with lots of “stuff”, this is the place for you. I prefer tacos that taste like summer with fresh cilantro, lime, etc. I found these tacos too goopy. Blue tortillas were more substantial and still undecided. Good for leftovers that the tacos weren’t soggy but again, not great at first bite. Husband enjoyed them, but not for me.

I previously left a five-star review after my first visit because the food was excellent. Unfortunately, during a recent visit on October 29, 2025, I was struck in the eye by a frayed metal wire hanging from construction at the restaurant’s entrance. The impact caused a documented corneal scratch that required a medical appointment. I hand-delivered a letter to management the next day explaining what happened and simply asked for written acknowledgment and reassurance that safety checks would be put in place while renovations were ongoing. I was not seeking any form of compensation — only confirmation that steps would be taken to protect future customers. It’s now been over a week, and I have received no reply or acknowledgment from the restaurant. It’s disappointing that something so serious could go completely unanswered. The food is great, but basic safety and accountability matter too.
