Joe’s Stone Crab is one of the most famous and respected restaurants in the United States, known for its long history, excellent food, and high standards of service. Located in Miami Beach, this restaurant has been serving guests since 1913 and has become a symbol of classic American dining. The atmosphere at Joe’s Stone Crab is elegant yet comfortable, with a timeless style that makes guests feel special without feeling out of place. From the moment you enter, the professional staff welcomes you warmly and ensures that your dining experience is smooth and enjoyable. The restaurant is especially famous for its stone crab claws, which are served fresh, chilled, and paired with their signature mustard sauce. The crab meat is sweet, tender, and full of flavor, making it a must-try dish for seafood lovers. Joe’s Stone Crab also focuses on sustainability, which adds to its positive reputation. Beyond seafood, the menu offers a variety of classic dishes, including their well-known fried chicken, fresh fish, and quality steaks, all prepared with great care and consistency. Each dish reflects attention to detail and a commitment to excellence. Went for lunch. The place is packed better make réservation. The people there knows the menu like a Bible. The cleanliness is impeccable. They clean tables none stop . Bathroom are clean . Service is well orchestrated. Even their multiple choice of bread is never seen before . Food is excellent, well seasoned, big portions. Great atmosphere and there is the possibility of outdoor seating

Hadn't been in 32 years. Shouldn't have waited so long. Called and no wait. Got there and 1 hour wait.🤣. Host was super nice. Walked by the bar and there were empty seats so we just ate there. Bartender was fun and nice. Stone crabs are worth the price. Only up 100% in 33 years. Not too bad. Same with the 1/2 chicken. Was like $4.95, and now like $8.95. Key lime pie was ridiculous and I normally don't like it. Can't wait to go back. Everything about it was awesome.

A must in Miami! An authentic restaurant with a unique atmosphere where the service is off the scale. We had the stone crab and lobster - George the server was fantastic at helping us feel at ease with all the tools to get the meat (they crack them so do the hard bit for you). Wine selection is the best in Miami beach. You need to book to guarantee a space and it is worth it.

While Joe’s has become a “must see” for tourists, Joe’s remains for us an upscale place for great food, better service and attention to detail designed to give diners a taste of what a great dining experience should be. We sat at a table for two in what we thought would be a great spot, until a table for 12 was seated next to us. After a callous and oblivious father toting a toddler nearly knocked over my water with his son’s shoes as he navigated every guest alongside his table, our server quickly offered to move us to another table with no one around. That’s caring about your guests, and she turned what would have been a miserable and disappointing experience into one I’m writing about to recognize her efforts and show my appreciation. Once situated, dinner was everything we remembered, perfect food and presentation, well-paced and delicious. Don’t skip the bread basket, but be careful not to fill up, either. Start with the Cole slaw, a must-have, the best around. Then the unbelievable crab cakes and broiled tomatoes, covered with a thick layer of cheese and creamed spinach (also worth ordering as a separate side if you bring enough guests). Get the large order of stone crab claws, it’s the perfect size to dip in the incredible mustard sauce. Finish with the key lime pie, one of the best around available commercially. (My wife’s is better, arguments welcome.)

From start to finish, everything about this meal was outstanding. The stone crab was unbelievably fresh and perfectly chilled — sweet, tender, and full of flavor. The fried chicken was golden, crispy, and juicy inside — comfort food taken to the next level. The crab cakes were packed with lump crabmeat and just the right amount of seasoning, no fillers in sight! The sides deserve their own applause: the cream of spinach was rich and velvety, the lobster mac and cheese decadent and cheesy with generous chunks of lobster, and the oysters were fresh, briny, and beautifully presented. Every bite tasted like it came straight from the ocean. And let’s not forget the drinks — creative, balanced, and expertly crafted. Each cocktail complemented the meal perfectly and showed real attention to detail. From the attentive service to the incredible food, this place hits every mark. If you’re looking for a spot that combines top-notch seafood, comfort classics, and impeccable hospitality while in Miami this restaurant is a must-visit. There is a dress code, so call to verify before visiting.

We visited this place because it’s known as a famous crab restaurant in Miami. We heard you don’t need a reservation during the daytime, but we still waited about 20 minutes. We sat on the terrace, and the weather was perfect, so the whole meal felt really nice. We ordered the large crab, the chopped salad, half oysters, and half chicken. The salad was amazing, and the crab came nicely pre-cut, which made it easy to eat. The staff were super friendly, and it made the experience even better. Big thanks to the employee who took great care of us from start to finish!

113 years and going as strong as ever. Two hour wait at 7:00pm, so MAKE reservations in advance! Super large bar perfect for a drink before. Bread service included and delicious. Star of the show of course is stone crabs. $134.99 for 3 jumbos and you would have thought they were free based on how many they serve each night. So good. And they still offer the half fried chicken now $8.95, was $7.95. Best and could come here just for this and house made fries. Shrimp cocktail only disappointment, medium sized and lousy presentation. Hash browns are divine as the chopped salad. And you can’t come to Joe’s without ordering key lime pie. Service excellent and wine list decent priced. Overall, one of the top grossing restaurants in the world and still one of the best.

It's the pinnacle of stone crabs, the holy grail. If you love stone crabs and are willing to pay for it, this is the place for you. You won't be disappointed. BTW, I never order but the fried chicken, but I heard it's spectacular. We ordered the seafood tower, great, and the the jumbo stone crabs are out of this world. The Key lime ain't bad either.😉

Even before arriving in Miami, we knew we had to eat here. We arrived on a Sunday around 7:00 PM without a reservation. We waited over an hour and a half for a table, which they immediately warned us about. Let me just say: it was worth it! Everything was delicious. The Stone Crab Bisque deserves a special mention, as do the Stone Crab Claws themselves. The oysters and lobster tail were excellent. The hamburger was also delicious. The pre-dinner cocktails and wine with dinner were good, and the Key Lime Pie was delicious to end the feast. On top of all that, the service was top-notch, from the maître d'hôtel, to the bartenders, and our waiter. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Miami!

WOW!!!!! This place lives up to the hype. Our server Isabella was outstanding. Service is impeccable. Friendly and hospitable without being over the top. Authentic and old school which is refreshing. We ordered the friend chicken, lobster Mac n cheese, scallops, and Caesar salad. All fantastic.

Every time I land in Miami Joe's Stone Crab is the first call I make. It has been that way for years and it will stay that way. The stone crabs are the best in the world cold, cracked perfectly, served with that signature mustard sauce that has a little heat to it. You dip, you eat, you order more. That is the whole experience and it does not need anything else. The sides hold their own the creamed spinach, the hash browns, the coleslaw that somehow tastes better here than anywhere else on earth. I always sit outside when the weather cooperates. You watch South Beach go by the palm trees the energy of a city that runs on ambition and sunshine. The wait can be brutal if you do not plan ahead this place does not take reservations for dinner so you either show up early or you wait with everyone else. But it is worth it. Joe's has been operating since 1913 and the line out the door proves that quality outlasts everything. I have taken business partners here, I have taken family, I have come alone and sat at the bar with a beer and a plate of claws. Every version of this experience works. No substitutes exist for this place. If you are in Miami and you eat stone crabs anywhere else you settled. Do not settle.

Absolutely everything here was delicious! The John Dory with brown butter sauce might be the most tasty piece of fish I’ve ever had. The stone crab was fresh and so much flavor. The mignonette for the oysters was fabulous - the texture and flavor was such a great pairing. Our service was quick and friendly and the sommelier Dan was very helpful. From the coat check to the valet parking, everything was wonderful. Inside feels so welcoming and cozy. We will be back!

Joe’s Stone Crab proudly hosted the Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride in 2026, an event they have supported for over 20 years. We were offered a prix fixe menu that included stone crabs. And of course, they were a must. They were absolutely fantastic. Two additional standouts truly impressed me. The skinny fried sweet potatoes were outstanding, almost like sweet potato churros. The other highlight was the Key lime pie. As a self-proclaimed Key lime pie connoisseur and a seventh-generation Floridian born and raised in South Florida, I can confidently say this pie was authentic, perfectly balanced, and had just the right tartness. Exactly how it should be made. I also cannot say enough about the staff and the level of service provided. While we were a special group, I paid close attention to the service throughout the restaurant. The waiters, waitresses, and bussers were professional, attentive, and consistently on point with every table. They even take the time to teach guests how to properly crack and enjoy the stone crab claws, making it easy for first-timers. Thank you to the staff and owners for their generosity, professionalism, and continued support of such a meaningful cause. I highly recommend this restaurant for both small and large groups. You will truly be well cared for.

This place is a gem of South Miami - what a treat! The dining room was classy, white tablecloths, orchids, dim lighting. Our waiter took impeccable care of us, explaining the history of the restaurant (which is over 100 years old!), tying on our bibs, and teaching us the proper way to eat the delicious local Stone Crabs they serve. Although it was a vastly different crab experience than I'm used to, the chilled hard-shell crab with its signature mustard sauce will forever remain in my fondest memories of Miami. We had the Stuffies as an appetizer, baked stuffed clams, which were to-die-for. The tender clam meat with savory bread crumb topping blew our minds. We also chose the Hashed Brown Potatoes, Spinach, and Sautéed Corn for our sides, and everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. And for dessert we had their famous Key Lime Pie, and holy smokes was it the most incredible slice of key lime pie I've ever had!!!

An institution - must visit. 5/5 across the board. Joe’s has been around for more than 100 yrs. Specializes in stone crabs, which are amazing. Recommend you order the fried chicken too. It’s almost as good as the crabs, costs $9, and goes perfectly with the fresh cold crabs. Great combo. Finish with key lime pie, which is perfectly made. The sides and salad were average - totally ok to skip. Service was impeccable - JR was a great server. We sat outside in patio which was fantastic. Inside is classic but loud dining hall type feel. Don’t expect 5 star Michelin vibe, it’s eating crabs with with your hands wearing a bib. It’s expensive, especially for jumbo crabs, but it’s worth it. Great food, service, and vibe. A must visit place in South Beach.

We arrived in the early evening and was granted a table by professional staff who immediately made you feel welcomed and appreciated. There were multiple waiters who made sure your glass was filled and all your needs were taken care of. I want to highlight our main waiter, Layton, who, sensing both our appetites and desire for good food, made his recommendations clear about what was supreme on the menu, and made the entire experience that much greater! The crab he recommended (their raison d'etre so to speak) was immensely tasty, alongside the sea bass and lobster tail was also hugely appreciated by the table. The dessert rounded off an amazing experience where I would gladly visit here again next time I am in Miami! Ps: reserve a table as this restaurant was packed even on a weekday

Everything was great!! The food delicious! I had a lobster tail and my husband had stone crabs. Creamed spinach is to die for! We only waited about 30 minutes past our resy. Little too load though in the room we were in.

I really don’t understand how anyone could give this place less than 5 stars. It is absolutely perfect in every way. The food is delicious, the service is incredible and the atmosphere is amazing. We had a wonderful dinner on our first visit and cannot wait to return. The stone crabs are delicious. Better than Maine lobster in my opinion and everything else we ate was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Delicious paella, grouper and the bisque is wonderful. Our sever was great and the mango mojito is a must try.

What can I say? I've waited a long time to come here and it did not disappoint. Every facet of the experience was above and beyond, from the service, food and atmosphere. Absolutely loved it. My wife is leerie of shellfish but had her fair share of it and loved it. Keep it going!!

Best restaurant in the United States (I don’t say that lightly). Book a reservation in advance. Even if you get the late 9:30 reservation, it will still be packed. However, it’s worth the wait, the commitment, and certainly the bonnet. The service is truly elite. Even with the various places I’ve been to in Hell’s Kitchen, Brooklyn, and some of the most prominent locations for culinary arts in this country, I still can’t top this experience in terms of the full slate of restaurant. I have to thank the recommendation I received for this place and I cannot wait to return to try even more stone crab and all the items on the menu. I heavily regret not getting the key lime pie. Don’t live with my regret!

An Absolute Institution – The Hype is Real Living in (or visiting) Miami, you hear a lot of noise about "must-visit" places that end up being just Instagram traps with mediocre food. Let me tell you right now: Joe’s Stone Crab is the exception. It is an absolute institution, a time capsule of old-school hospitality, and honestly, one of the best meals I’ve had in years. The Atmosphere & The Wait First off, you have to respect the history. Walking in feels like stepping back into a classic 1920s Miami. Yes, the wait can be intimidating because they generally don't take reservations, but that is part of the ritual. My advice? Go for lunch to skip the crowds, or if you go for dinner, grab a drink at the bar, tip the maitre d' (just kidding... mostly), and soak in the bustling vibe. Watching the tuxedoed waiters navigate the floor is like watching a well-rehearsed ballet. The Main Event: The Crabs We ordered the Select Stone Crabs, and they were perfection. Pre-cracked, chilled, and incredibly fresh. The meat is sweet and firm, but the real MVP here is that famous mustard sauce. I don’t know what alchemy goes into that sauce, but it cuts through the richness of the crab perfectly. Do not skip it. The Sides are Mandatory You cannot come to Joe’s and just eat crab. The sides are legendary for a reason. • The Hashed Browns: These aren't your diner hash browns. They are a crispy, golden-brown disc of potatoes that are soft on the inside and shattered-glass crispy on the outside. • Creamed Spinach: Easily the best I’ve ever had. It’s rich, garlicky, and comforting. • The Fried Chicken: This is the insider secret! It’s shockingly affordable (compared to the market price crabs) and might actually be the best fried chicken in South Florida. If you have a group, get an order for the table to share. Dessert & Service We finished with the Key Lime Pie. It’s the benchmark against which all other key lime pies should be measured—tart, creamy, and semi-frozen. The service was impeccable from start to finish. Our waiter was professional, quick, and had that old-school charm you rarely see anymore. The Verdict Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? 100%. Joe’s isn’t just dinner; it’s a Miami event. Whether you are a local or a tourist, you owe it to yourself to do this at least once.

First and foremost...fantastic! Nick was awesome and just an absolute PRO! Loved our experience. As everyone says, the fried chicken is awesome and very reasonably priced. My wife and I went here for a great date night...ordered the chilled seafood tower for 2. Totally worth it but be careful...there is a TON of food on this appetizer. We actually had to cancel ordering one of our meals it was huge but worth every penny. Loved our experience. Not sure how anyone would say they didnt think the seafood had much flavor...our stone crab claws were amazing and the oysters were absolutely awesome.

Cédric Martin

Truly an institution of Miami Beach! In this restaurant, you can feel its more than a century of history! Of course, I recommend to order seafood, and I also recommend to get there a little bit early (always book!) and have a drink at the bar, waiting for your table to be ready.

T
Taylor Deni

They now take reservations. I would recommend going for lunch as it is easier to get a booking and less busy. Huge restaurant. Service was outstanding. Very friendly staff. From the moment I entered, I was warmly greeted and waited upon. Upon recommendation from the waitress, I went with the large stone crabs (5 claws per person). The only difference between the different claw options is the actual weight of the claw, not the size. The large claw size provides more meat per person than the medium or select. The jumbo claws will provide the most meat per claw. I opted for the spinach as a side. Whilst you wait for your meal, enjoy the complimentary bread basket. The chilled stone crab claws were lovely, served with the classic accompaniment of mustard sauce. Light and delicate. The claws are cracked already which makes it easier to separate the meat from the shell. Use your hands, make a mess! The staff will give you a bib so don't worry about your clothes. When you have finished, dab your fingertips into the lime and water mixture, and then grab a napkin to dry off your hands. I have never tried creamed spinach before. Very nice but rich. Not something you can eat a lot of. A lovely meal. Perfect with a glass of white wine. I had to leave a little room for the famous key lime pie which was so good. I couldn't fault it. Nice ambience, good service and a lovely meal. Whilst Joe's Stone Crab lived up to the hype, it is not somewhere I would frequent. I enjoyed my meal there and I have ticked it off my list. Would recommend.

I have had stone crabs before in Miami, but hands down these are the best! This was a great location and a short distance from where we were staying. The restaurant had a 60's vibe and very open. The staff was spectacular and the food was amazing. We decided to do a bit of a surf and turf to celebrate a birthday. The filet mignon was cooked a spectacular medium rare and the stone crabs were out of this world to how delicate they were. We added an onion ring as an appetizer and finished off with a bread pudding dessert that was crazy good. They also served a warm bread basket to start the meal with. My only constructive feedback was their house wine. It wasn't for me and when the staff noticed it, they replaced it right away with something else more to my tasting. Will definitely go back when we are in Miami!

Service and atmosphere are incredible. The stone crabs were good, as someone who had never had them before but loves other kinds of crabs. The mustard sauce with them is really what makes them great. The sides that come with the standard meal were very good. My wife had the filet mignon and she said it was very good. Perhaps explore the rest of the menu that isnt the crabs. I have heard the fried chicken is great. As for deserts, the key lime pie was very good, much more subdued lime flavor than I am used to. The bread pudding was best though, absolutely perfect especially with the syrup that had a hint of star anise.

Everyone including ChatGPT tells you to come here for good reason. The food is exceptional. The service is fantastic. The atmosphere is perfect. Bernie was a great waiter and the rest of the staff was wonderful when I forgot my hat and had to come back and get it. They have something for everyone too. Walk-ins are welcome. The have a world class bar to wait at. And if you want you can grab the take out with full access to the dine-in menu. The key lime pie is solid. Hot tip is to order the half fried chicken. It is exceptionally well made and might be the best deal in America at $8.95.

The restaurant is huge and it gets super busy! Our waiter was attentive, friendly and chatty, I love when a waiter can have a nice quick conversation! We came just for a small bite to eat and a bottle of wine. We had the famous crabs, oysters and their delicious stuffed tomatoes, we loved the few items we got. I would love to go back to have a full meal and everything sounded and looked delicious on the tables near us.

Outstanding solo experience at Joe’s! Thank you for making a gal feel welcome! The food is the star but the service is really something special here. Exquisite treatment of humans plus the legacy of delicious food & atmosphere, superb! Was lucky to get the Miami Spice Lunch Deal plus you can add on their iconic Stone Crabs. Very fresh, lots of crab meat. Try crab bisque, and the hash browns with the glazed Salmon for lunch and the famous Key Lime Pie dessert is included with three course meal. You get to try one of the top restaurants in the nation as a local with a great deal.

A friend, who is local to Miami, recommended Joe's Stone Crab as a nice place to go for a birthday dinner. We love seafood and we were excited to try it. We were seated promptly and greeted by our server. So many amazing items on the menu that we had a tough time deciding what to try. We settled on tuna tartare with wasabi chips as an appetizer ... delicious! For entrees, we ordered the scallops, sea bass and of course, we had to try the stone crab. Oh, and don't forget the lobster mac & cheese. They brought out bibs for the stone crab and that was a fun photo opportunity. We shared everything, the food was delicious and we were too stuffed to even try dessert. Highly recommend as a Miami staple.

I didnt have the crab as im on a specific diet that forbid crab but it was a very exiting to visit the first eating house on miami beach (1913). You could tell the place has a lot of history and its packed. You will find people from all around the world, families etc. I wouldnt go there with a date as the baby bib makes you looks a bit weird, plus eating with your hands etc.The staff was super nice. The place reminds me to La Biela in Recoleta, Buenos Aires. Similar vibes

Absolutely massive establishment. We went late on a Friday night with a reservation. Some of our party was late and they would not seat us until everyone was there (understandable). Once our party was fully there (15 minutes late), we were seated promptly. Food was great. For two couples, we did 3 sides and 2 orders of the "select" claws. It was just enough food. If hungrier, we could have done more, but in order to make the dinner more affordable, this was completely sufficient. Our server, Charles, was excellent. Very attentive and helped guide us on our selections.

J
Joseph Morrell

Joe’s Stone Crab was devious, and in the best way. The star of the show is obviously the stone crab. The claws were sweet, incredibly fresh, and perfectly prepared, and it’s easy to see why they’re considered a true Miami classic and some of the best around. The key lime pie absolutely lives up to the hype and is a must-try. It was perfectly balanced, tart without being overly sweet, and a great way to end the meal. As for the fried chicken, it was okay. Nothing I’d rave about, but I get why some people really like it. It was crispy and juicy, and for the price (around $9), it’s worth trying, especially alongside the seafood to round out the meal. The service was impeccable, everyone works in tandem to ensure you have a great dinning experience. By far the best service we recieved during our trip.

I hadn't been to Joe's Stone Crab on South Beach in 30 years, and my wife and I have been together for nearly 25 years. Stacy has never been there and I thought Joe's was just one of those places she had to experience at least once. Joe's is an iconic Miami landmark. It has been around for 113 years and occupies a full city block of prime South Beach real estate. Servers, bartenders, and even bussers are tuxedoed. It's a very special place. Reservations are hard to get and sometimes one can wait three hours for a table. Fortunately my friend (and fraternity pledge father) is a regular and he was able to get us a reservation. It was an outstanding meal with great food, fantastic service, and wonderful atmosphere. Special shout outs to Maitre D' Evan, who was a pleasure to talk to on our arrival and to our server Kostas, who was a professional in every sense of the word. We started with a chopped salad and the crab bisque as starters, they were both fantastic. We ordered the large claws, which were perfectly prepared and served perfectly cracked (no mallets needed here!). We also ordered the fried shrimp which were huge and perfectly cooked. Joe's is a fantastic place for birthday, anniversary, or other special events. While it is somewhat pricey, I feel the quality of the experience justifies the cost.

Enjoyed my first time at Joe Stone crab everything was amazing, the waiter went way above and beyond… and the pricing was amazing as well, not expensive like everybody else thinks it is

S

After going twice I can confidently say that its worth visiting as a tourist who has never had stone crab before. While the claws themselves are pricey, i did find all the other food options to be quite good though. I also found the service to be great as well. I recommend this place but would suggest getting the medium size claws instead of the jumbo.

Great food and service! If you prefer something easier on your pocket, you can order the 1/2 fried chicken. Do try the key lime pie! The best I've had!!

We had lünch reservations. Ordered stone crab bisque, salad, stone crab and key lime pie. Delicious. Attentive service and lovely patio. Love the history.

Came here based on reputation and reviews alone, and fell in love with the food. The crab bisque and crab cakes were honestly the best we've ever had, even across many fine establishments across the world. The stone crabs did not disappoint either - they were firm, fresh and sweet. Finally, the key lime pie also lived up to its reputation, tart, not overly sweet, with a satisfyingly crumbly base. Loved the old school atmosphere with our wonderful and gentlemanly server. Would 💯 return on every visit to Miami!

The stone crabs are fresh and delicious. Large full portion gives you five and the price is reasonable. Cole slaw is also great. Key lime pie is one of the best I have ever eaten. It can be very crowded and you can usually find a seat at the bar if you arrive at 5PM.

A
Alex Jordan

This place is an institution and a great one at that. We unfortunately attended the night they had the dishwasher malfunction so we did wait nearly 4 hrs but that was out of their control. It was also frustrating to see people “bribing” the host with money to get their names put up the list but I guess the locals know how to play the game. We happily waited and enjoyed our meal once we were seated. The crab claw was delicious and the mustard sauce is out of this world. The lychee martinis were delicious and the key lime pie very nice. All in all, would have given five star if attention to tourists was as much as the locals but still a lovely restaurant

Never disappoints. We went at 6pm because we had our friends and their young daughter with us. We felt really well accommodated to have her with us and she got a very cute Joes coloring book… not sure if she love it more or me! Stone crab NEVER disappoints and the service is always fantastic. We love Joes and bring all our guests visiting Miami here.

If you are in Miami this place is an absolute must visit! We were there late October 2025 and had a fabulous meal and exceptional service. The place is spotlessly clean, valet parking and a great location

The food here is excellent! Super comforting, classic and flavorful. I highly recommend the crab cake and tuna tartar. I enjoyed the variety of the fresh bread basket, was very thoughtful (it comes with 7 different varieties). Their stone crabs are obviously the knockout - a little pricy but worth it! And the creamed spinach was delish!

Joe’s Stone Crab was a great spot for our anniversary dinner. First time having stone crab. All of the food was delicious. The service was first class and then some. Our server, Sebastian made excellent suggestions and his attitude and attentiveness was unmatched. Hope We make it here again.

N

There no hype here. The food is always delicious. I have a crustacean allergy but my wife loves the crab here. I have had the Chilean sew bass, steak and fried chicken here. All the sides are delicious, the salad and desserts. 10 stars out of 5. I don't even like going down to Miami much but make the exception for Joe's stone crab any time.

A classic! The whole experience of Joe's Stone Crab was fantastic. The standards are standards for a reason but we also loved the tuna tartare and the key lime pie.

Excellent food and service in a very nice setting. The crab dishes are outstanding, and it’s great that you can choose from several portion sizes depending on your party size. Cash, our server, was fantastic and made the experience even better.

We had a wonderful time at Joe’s! The service was absolutely impeccable—friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. The food was outstanding, and the key lime pie? Hands down the best you’ll find anywhere! Highly recommend Joe’s for a memorable night out.

You come to Joe’s for one thing - obviously their stone crab. Do not waste your time on the smaller sized claws. Go Jumbo or go home. We went during stone crab season, and they are to die for, especially paired with their signature mustard sauce. We also got their potatoes - I thought the onions were a bit heavy handed. The crisp top was fantastic, but a bit mealy in the middle. The swordfish and oysters were also fantastic. I cannot speak for the turf options, but let’s be real, it’s Joe’s Stone Crab, not Joe’s Stone Steak.

A

A 5-star restaurant in every possible way! I went to Joe’s and was amazed by the food, the ambience and the service. The oysters may well have been the best I ever had, the stone crab was beautifully prepared and yummy and the sides were to die for. Don’t forget to try the spinach and the Cole slaw! The service was excellent by Soli and Miguel, who treated us like royalty. Will absolutely want to return.

Best food we’ve had in Miami. While everything is pricey - except for the fried chicken, it was worth every single penny. The crab cakes were out of this world, but so were the shrimp and crab rolls, and the fried chicken was crispy and juicy. Why bother going to other restaurants when this one has everything one can look for.

Best stone crab place in Miami 🦀 Very friendly staff (special mention to Matthew 🙌) and authentic atmosphere. I didn’t enjoy the bar service nor the cocktail (the margarita was really bad 🍸❌). That said, the crab and sides are executed perfectly — so good that I’ll definitely come back. Very pricey 💸

Wearing tank tops so we couldnt eat inside the fancy restaurant. But we did go next door to the to go section. We could eat there with tank tops. Food was good. Expensive. But expected. Got lobster rolls.

Importance for visitors: Joe’s does not include any service charge or tip on the bill. The jumbo crab leg here is exceptionally fresh, and the cooking is wonderfully simple and honest. I ordered the Chilean sea bass, and the garnish was made with freshly diced tomato and mango — not a pre-made sauce — which was a lovely touch. Many of the servers are older gentlemen, and you can feel a sense of “old America” through their professionalism and charm. The nostalgic music in the dining room also makes the whole experience very relaxing. Today was our second visit. Our first visit was on October 17. Since our hotel’s breakfast restaurant and most daytime spots around Miami Beach automatically add a 20% service charge, and some even bring the POS screen again for additional tipping, I assumed Joe’s followed the same practice. I paid with Apple Pay and must have skipped the tip prompt without noticing. Thankfully, the elderly gentleman who served us that evening was so warm — he took photos for us and even helped crack the stone crab claws — so we handed him $40 in cash as we were leaving. Today, during our second visit, when I saw that no service charge was added, I placed cash on the table. Our server explained that the boss knows most South Beach restaurants automatically include service charges, but the boss prefers to keep the traditional approach — respecting guests by letting them decide the gratuity themselves. I think this is a great message to share, especially for visitors. The gentleman who served us on the 17th didn’t hint or remind us at all, and although I still remember his graceful presence, I can no longer distinguish his face among all the spirited senior waiters here.

M
Michelle Goes Global

I stopped by Joe’s Crab Shack in South Beach for dinner, and it turned out to be one of those meals that just hit the spot. Sometimes, you don’t need Michelin stars — just good seafood, friendly energy, and the sound of laughter around you. The atmosphere here is fun and casual, exactly what you’d expect from a Miami beachside favorite. The staff were quick, upbeat, and made sure everything came out fresh and hot. I had a mix of seafood (the crab, of course, is the star) — flavorful, perfectly cooked, and seasoned just right. It’s the kind of place where you can show up straight from the beach, grab a drink, and just enjoy yourself. No frills, no fuss — just a good time. Tip: If you’re visiting during peak hours, put your name in early or check in online — it gets busy for all the right reasons. Joe’s Crab Shack isn’t trying to be fancy — it’s fun, nostalgic, and exactly what South Beach dining should be: a little loud, a lot of flavor, and a place you’ll always remember with a smile. 🦀🌴( Michelle ) follow me #MichelleRodriguezSuarez #MichelleGoesGlobal

Fantastic dinner at Joe's! The stone crab was incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared - you can taste why this place is legendary. The creamed spinach was rich and delicious, a perfect side. Martinis were expertly crafted and strong. Classic Miami institution with top-notch seafood and old-school service. Worth every penny for a special occasion!"

This place is a mecca in Miami...a 'must do...consistently fresh stone crabs that are superior to every other place in Miami. The other seafood like the Salmon is also phenomenal. Plus there Fried green tomatoes are some of the best l've ever had... and hands down the best fried chicken I’ve ever had!! I've been a fan of Joe's Stone Crabs for years, Joe's Take-Away - their wonderful cafe it's perfect if you don't want to wait for the main restaurant... The take away is large with beautiful glass displays Where you can pick many of joe's specialties - especially their perfect stone crab claws, at a terrific price. You can buy wine & champagne by the bottle at retail, then sit at varnished wood tables and enjoy high end seafood - especially the stone crabs at a more affordable, relaxed price and atmosphere. It provides a chance for a quick high quality meal, complete with people to clear the tables. This is where you need to go to get stone crabs in Miami! 100% recommend!

I saw on Reddit that this spot is a must-visit in Miami, so we decided to check it out. The fried chicken was a standout deal, four pieces for about $8, and it was crispy, fresh, and free of any off taste, even if it wasn’t heavily seasoned. The real star was the clam chowder, easily the best I’ve ever had. The hash browns were amazing, the Cobb salad was fresh and flavorful, and the key lime pie was delicious. The only letdown was the spinach, which was pretty mediocre. Overall, this place absolutely nails its food and delivers one memorable dish after another.

Joe’s Stone Crab fully deserves its reputation. From the moment we arrived, the service was smooth, professional, and welcoming despite how busy it was. The atmosphere feels classic without being stuffy, which adds to the overall experience. The lobster roll was genuinely to die for. Generous pieces of sweet, perfectly cooked lobster in a lightly toasted bun, simple and beautifully balanced so nothing overpowered the seafood. Easily one of the best lobster rolls I’ve had. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but the quality, consistency, and attention to detail make it worth it. A Miami institution for a reason, and a place I’d happily return to.

Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach is one of those places that truly lives up to its reputation. The stone crab claws are fresh and flavorful, the classic sides are on point, and the key lime pie is worth the trip on its own. The place can be busy and a bit pricey, yet the experience feels iconic and special. It is the kind of spot you visit once and immediately understand why people keep coming back.

Joe’s Stone Crab is a classic Miami restaurant. Located in the South Beach area and very easy to get to with valet parking in front and a parking lot across the street. After being around for over 100 years, you know they know what they’re doing. Their stone crabs are impeccable. Their service is always on point - you will never have an empty glass. One thing some people might not know is that their fried chicken is notoriously delicious as well. Whenever I take clients to this restaurant, we get at least one order of the fried chicken for the table, so everyone can try. Obviously the highlight of the meal is the stone crabs, but there are other items that are quite delicious, including any of the side dishes, the mustard sauce to complement the crabs - which is a must (I put it on everything!) - and their famous Key Lime pie. We went to lunch today and we were so full after lunch, but everyone left taking home a slice of key lime pie. You cannot leave Joe’s without a slice. We ordered the large stone crabs, grouper, snapper and crab cakes. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. The restaurant was full and reservations are highly recommended. The atmosphere is elegant and classic. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays. If you’re from South Florida, you’ve probably experienced Joe’s at some point and if not, you need to go. It is definitely worth going back to time and time again. If you’re visiting the area, it’s definitely experience you must have to give you a taste of SoFl.

Desde su apertura en 1913, el restaurante ha mantenido una reputación estelar por ofrecer mariscos frescos y exquisitos. We went on a weekend evening around 6 and got seated immediately. We ordered the seafood tower ($184) and a key lime margarita and some chips and a slice of the key lime pie. We really loved the margarita. The portion for the seafood tower was generous but it’s not worth the price. The service was good though.

Great place for seafood. We ordered the sampler platter so we could also try the lobster and shrimp. Very fresh. Definitely order the stone crabs - sweet and succulent. The hashbrowns were fantastic. The place is huge but you need reservations. We booked for 5pm and it was packed. Theres also a take away place beside the restaurant, less busy, casual and you can also eat in.

Honestly there are just too many other places that serve stone crab that are cheaper. I enjoyed it, it’s just the price tag isn’t justified. The service was impeccable, love the atmosphere. The food was ok. Lobster tail, did not care for. Stone crab was good, just nothing great. Have to hit some places in the keys to compare. Side note, the key lime pie was great!

Review for Joe’s TAKEAWAY! We dined next door at Joe’s Takeaway. It’s there more casual restaurants where you order from a counter. The food was delicious!

We did not go to the formal dinning room but the take out dinning area. We have been there in the past. I do not like fish but had the fish and chips. The chips were dry, not tasty. I have had better fish and chips at Joe's in the past. Mycompanion enjoyed a lobster roll. She said it was good but not as good as in the past. Joe's is expensive. Service in the formal dining area has always been the very good. Of course we were in the take out dining area, much less formal and the service was good.

Our first Spice Menu experience this season was at Joe’s Stone Crab. Overall, it was just an okay experience. For starters, we had the stuffies and mussels—both decent but nothing memorable. The ginger salmon and the shrimp & crab roll followed; flavors were fine, but they didn’t really stand out. Desserts included key lime pie and crème brûlée, which were good—especially the key lime pie, which felt more in line with Joe’s usual quality. Service was great—especially the fun touch of offering bibs for the messy dishes—but somehow the whole meal lacked the “wow” factor we were expecting from such a classic spot. Also worth noting: no paired drinks were mentioned in the menu

C
Cliff Jones

We joined the unofficial wait list with the maitre d' and were seated within about 20-30 minutes from when we arrived. The food was great, as expected. The stone crab was cracked for us so we could eat easily. I enjoyed the mustard dipping sauce, and the service was exceptional.

M
Mariah Munoz

It was great to eat at this Miami institution. While it was busy we quickly found a booth at the bar. We imbibed with dirty martinis and stone crab claws. The bar menu isn’t large but we enjoyed everything we ordered. The service was prompt, kind, and a locked in algorithm. The only note: it was SO cold in the bar. And this is coming from someone who runs hot and never minds a hiked up AC.

M
Mark Field

Definitely worth experiencing. The food was awesome. My wife loved her stone crabs. Great oysters. Our server was always there for us but not very friendly. We only knew that sat in the original building that had nice decor as we heard a different server telling another table. Recommend.

Great restaurant and service. Had a birthday dinner for a friend with a medium sized party for the meal of 8 of us. Very accommodating and food was fresh. I didn’t have seafood but friends did and enjoyed it. I had the fried chicken and seasonal vegetables

Love the Miami spice menu - very hearty atmosphere and very nice people! Our server gave great suggestions that felt very genuine! The fried chicken was unexpectedly good. Only 4/5 because we went after stone crab season, but would definitely go back in the future earlier in the year when its in season!

M

The food was very good, but the ambiance left a lot to be desired. It was crowded, tables very close together, and all hard surfaces to pretty noisy. So be prepared for those issues if you want stone crab claws. Delicious.

I finally decided to try Joe’s Stone Crab, since it’s such a well-known and talked-about spot. I ordered through DoorDash, and while I understand delivery can sometimes affect food quality, I still expected a bit more consistency from such a popular restaurant. The stone crabs were a bit disappointing — they didn’t taste as fresh as I’d hoped and had a stronger crab smell than expected. Maybe the dine-in experience is better, but I do think takeout customers deserve the same quality. On a brighter note, the fried chicken had a great crust and texture, though it could’ve used more seasoning for flavor. The salad was beautifully presented and fresh, and the soups were solid. The mac & cheese was just okay — I suspect the lobster version might be the better choice next time. It needs to be alittle more creamier. Dessert was satisfying and helped end the meal on a positive note. My biggest issue was with customer service. I called ahead to request extra dressings, and the person on the phone assured me it would be taken care of. Unfortunately, none were included in my order. It’s frustrating when restaurants promise something and don’t follow through, especially when you’re already paying a premium for delivery. Overall, Joe’s Stone Crab is decent but not exceptional. There are definitely some good items on the menu, but between the inconsistency in food quality and the slip in customer service, it didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. Their mustard sauce for the crabs is amazing though

My fiancée and I made our 2nd trip to Joe's while in Miami, and the return visit was very similar to the first. On the tv show Family Guy, Peter Griffin uses a term "it insists upon itself"..well, that definitely applies here. The host is a warm as a cry for help (vibe both times) I don't ever think there was eye contact... and having us wait at the bar until "our name is called" (ala the DMV) allowed us to interact with the equally aloof bartenders (asking for a Diet Coke shouldn't be met with implied disappoinment) THAT BEING SAID, once we were escorted to our table..the server was on point. More "efficiency over humanity" but still nice. I myself cant eat seafood, so the menu is VERY limited for me. The fried chicken was decent, but not allowing to get all white meat with a place that's selling about 80% seafood?? C'mon..... The seafood itself was good according to my lady, but this place is more of a "checklist establishment" than a destination. Decent enough, but the welcoming committee up front leave a LOT to be desired for warmth and first impressions and honestly it bullied the entire evening. If money is no object, im sure this can be overlooked, but for working people...there juat wasn't a wow factor.

K
Keren

I'll just say that the crabs were worth the wait. The service at the table was friendly and attentive, but the atmosphere felt a bit chaotic. A big minus is that you can't book a table in advance so you'll have to wait (almost 2 hours!) to be seated. This place is huge, the least they could do is allocate some of it for reserved seats. The waiting area is one big chaos and the service there is outrageous. This was my first time in Miami and did want to go just to try the crabs. The lemon Pie was so disappointing - too sweet and was not worth it. If you're in the area and it's a weekday, go just for the crabs 👌🏼

J
JJ

Another restaurant overly hyped up by TikTok. Good price for the mid fried chicken( tasted like crab for some reason), great Keylime pie, and the lobster mac & cheese was very good. Serving staffers amazing but expect a long wait time for food prep. Book a reservation , walk ins expect 1hr+ wait. Free parking across street for joes diners

B
Brett Dawson

Went just for the famous Key Lime Pie. It was disappointing. Not terrible however, it didn't live up to the hype. Maybe because it was Superbowl Sunday or maybe not. Also, a 2oz pour of Buffalo Trace was $30 before the mandatory 20% tip. That's nuts no matter how well dressed the waiter is.

B
Ben Park

Joe's Stone Crab was probably the most disappointing dining experience we’ve had during our Miami visit. The good part - their handcrafted cocktails. As a classical restaurant should, they do not water down. They also offer a few more varieties than your usual classic American restaurant and they are pretty delicious. The negative part was with the food. Specifically the stone crab. For the price, we genuinely expected something better. The crab felt bland and we’ve all had better crabs elsewhere. Ironically, their hash browns and fried chicken had more flavors and delicacy to them. The consensus was that you pay for the experience, not the food.

G
George

I tried Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami and honestly felt disappointed given the hype. I ordered the jumbo claws (around $124), expecting something noticeably larger and better, but the size was underwhelming. Compared to my hand, they didn’t feel that different from what many places call “large.” For reference, my hands are average. The crab was served cold, clearly thawed from frozen, which gave it that typical “icy seafood” texture. Flavor-wise, it was just okay—not juicy, and definitely not the “super fresh and sweet” taste that I’ve seen people rave about online.

I
IRC (CentralProcessingUnit)

Bland bland bland Saw a review on YouTube There where a lot of people in the dinning room Had high expectations The food was terrible bland So why so many people Then it hit me it’s old folks They eat terrible bland food but they’re here for the experience and the memories They should fire the chef and the sous chef The Mac and cheese gave me a head ache With all the money they make they can’t make this fresh? HOWEVER! The service and the atmosphere were impecable! Absolute great service bad food

We chose this restaurant because of its strong reputation and made a reservation in advance. When we arrived, there were clearly open tables in the main dining area. However, we were directed to a separate back room far from the main hall. We couldn’t help but notice that several other Asian guests were also seated in that same room. The seating pattern felt uncomfortable and left us feeling singled out. We ended up leaving shortly after. For a well-known establishment, this was extremely disappointing.

C
Charly A

I had a very disappointing experience today at Joe’s Stone Crab. We ordered a seafood tower, which took 1 hour and 20 minutes to arrive. When it finally came to the table, the seafood was completely submerged in melted ice water. The server noticed the issue and decided to replace it, which we appreciated. However, when the replacement arrived, it was clear that the seafood tower was far too small for two people, especially considering the long wait. Given the situation, I ordered a lobster roll. The manager kindly offered the lobster roll and desserts on the house as a gesture, which was appreciated, but unfortunately it did not make up for the overall experience. This is a restaurant with nearly 100 years of history and a constant flow of guests year-round, yet the level of service I experienced today felt far below what one would expect from an institution of this caliber. The service seems to be declining, and today’s visit was genuinely frustrating. Overall, it was a very poor experience, and I don’t see myself returning anytime soon.
