I went here for lunch with my son. The outside is not impressive! It looks very run down, dirty and dingy. The parking lot and outside of the building can definitely use an update and cleaning. BUT… the inside is clean. The servers are all very friendly and attentive. And most importantly, the food is fresh and delicious! The prices are also very reasonable. We split the fried gyoza as an appetizer. I got a salmon skin hand-roll and the dragon roll. My son got the salmon skin roll. Everything was presented very nicely and tasted great! Kampai is not close to my home. I was only in the area for a Dr appointment. If I’m in the area again, I will definitely go back.

Went for a very late night date & honestly, the food and service were amazing. We loved the hot green tea (plus free refills!!!) & we got: - steamed gyoza (must order) - rainbow supreme roll (my personal fave) - kampai roll (comes fried) - neptune roll (more spicy mayo than anything else) Loved that they were able to accommodate even if we arrived at 9:30 pm. Devoured our food & left happy!

I have been coming to Kampai almost as long as they’ve been here. Lol. A quaint hidden place that may be small but is large on food quality and service. I love the beautiful presentation of dishes and have never had a bad experience. The sushi is delicious!

I been coming to this place for over 10 years is very close to home. My favorite rolls are : Neptune, Mango Roll, Ninja Roll. Service: 10 out of 10 they are like family every time they see me. Place: Typical Japanese cozy restaurant One of my top sushi restaurants in south Miami.

This is very busy restaurant and for good cause : the food is amazing! Great local join if you're in South Miami or Kendal areas. We went on a Friday night and it was packed do expect a 5 to 10 min wait. The ambience is laid back, food is very fresh and very tasty, drinks are generous per serving. Going back again soon to try something else on the menu.

Great! Food and ambience were 5 star quality. Here with my best friend. So happy! Parking was a bit stressful, we may be towed, but the risk is worth it. When we arrived, there was a car accident and turning into the lot was quite hectic, but no worries, my best friend took a long detour just because this place is so magnificent. Definitely come eat here. We only ate shrimp

This is my favorite sushi spot. It's always fresh and delicious! The rolls are a good size for the price. I also really love their tuna tower, pad thai, and Japanese style fried rice (must try), so much lighter and fresher than Chinese rice!

Great great great food! The tuna tower here is OFF THE CHAIN! Sushi tastes very fresh and they have some great lunch deals. Every time I've come here I've really enjoyed the food. Also, the mochi ice creams are so yummy!

My husband and I have been looking for a sushi place that it's truly good. Used to go to fujiya japanese resturant and also sushi ko, we stopped going as the prices became ridiculous. This place is and will be our new sushi restaurant. The food was amazing we had a boat for 2 and the service was great. They waited till we would finish our appetizer before bringing out the boat. The servers were very polite and asked us several times if we needed anything. They served us such a big amount we were able to take the rest home and eat again for dinner. Loved loved loved this place and will return.

Came in for lunch after having a medical procedure done down the street and this meal quite literally injected life back into me. The Tom Kha (coconut milk) soup was so soul enriching. I was a bit on the hungrier side so I also ordered two salmon hand rolls and not only was the presentation adorable but also extremely delicious. Love Kampai, thank you for this wonderful meal!!

Glad this venerable Japanese/Thai resto is still pleasing Kendall customers after all these years! The Green Papaya salad and Zombie roll were unbelievable, while the main course of Lobster Pad Thai was delectable. The Tempura Ice Cream with Sweet Beans was the perfect finishing touch. Last but not least, their authentic and courteous waitstaff is exemplified by our server Champ.

By far best sushi in town, can't go wrong with their Hosomaki rolls. We also love their Thai food, Masamang Curry, or Special Pad Thai, Garlic Chicken are a few of their amazing dishes. Easily one of our favorite places to eat.

I love coming here. Been a regular here for the past 5-10 years and the place has only grown fonder in my heart. The Neptune roll is simply one of greatest rolls ever and I highly recommend it. Fantastically helpful staff really make the place a joy to come to. Highly recommended for sushi cravings. If you really want to feast, get a sushi boat lol.

This place is just consistently good. I honestly don't know how else top put it. The food is always delicious and the prices are fair. We have tried different things over the years and it is all consistently tasty. I would recommend going here if you are into going to places for the food and not necessarily for the decorum. It's simple and not a very large establishment, but your tummy will leave happy. Try the octopus slices with the sauce, soft shell crab, and anything else.

T

Fantastic. The sashimi platter is excellent, best tuna and white tuna I’ve ever had. I would avoid the shrimp shumai but the rolls were great and service better. Enjoy an empty parking lot and fresh food!

Till this day, it's still one of my favorite places to dine. Starting with the warmth, service and the prices are great. I love their lunch specials but parking can be challenging. Lol, well worth it. For all your soup Lover's I highly recommend the seafood soup. It's to die for!!!

Your classic family owned Japanese restaurant, quality is ok, but for the price is fair and square, our server was excellent, she forgot about us once but who doesn't sometimes right? It's a small restaurant so we just waved her, we had 2 rolls and a sweet and sour chicken, rolls were as expected, the chicken was a bummer though roughly any chicken... probably around 8 oz of chicken in a 16$ dish, it was full of cucumber 🥒,onions 🌰 and pineapple 🍍 everything was as expected.

R

Good Chinese/Thai restaurant, very good quality / price option in town. Visited the restaurant with my wife and 2 friends. We ordered the fish soup and the crunchy roll, for desert we had the sticky rice with mango and fried ice cream. Everything was super tasty and promptly served. Will certainly come back.

Very basic, very typical sushi/thai place, however not bad at all. I can say I've definitely eaten better sushi at other places, but if you're hungry and this place is around, it will satisfy your hunger. Nothing extraordinary, but sometimes you're looking for something simple and this hits the spot.

Place is awesome! Low key, casual, but nice. Food is always awesome! I've eaten A LOT of Thai and Japanese food. I feel pretty confident in my ability to judge. Solid sushi, great Thai, reasonable prices. Try the Tom Kha Gai soup for an awesome treat!

D
David Manopla

Service is key. So I can rant about the food because "it's extraordinary", I can tell you about the beverages, "the quality of product is excellent ", I can brag about the portions, they are very bountiful. What makes this dining experience priceless is the work ethic, hospitality, and professionalism with the staff. Thank you, Kampai 😊

Today, terrible. Sashimi tasted like water. Service was slow. I spend hundreds of dollars there a year, for years now! This is Eddie Kampai. Reply if you dare.

I tend to come here once in a while with my family. Service is usually pretty good and same goes for the food. Good variety of Asian and Thai foods and doesn't take long to be prepared. Unless something big like the boat is asked.

Lived in the area for years and never actually ate here until recently. The sushi was delicious and fresh! The Tom Kha Gai was amazing and at a great price too. They have some great riceless sushi options which was a really pleasant surprise. Have yet to find a dish I haven't enjoyed.

My “go to” local sushi spot for when I’m craving some sush. They’re always quick when ordering take out and the quality is usually very good. Some rolls are better than others, the classics are usually always great. Kampai roll, zombie roll, and the pad Thai are my faves.

20 years eating here for a reason. Food is great, sashimi is a good size portion for the price compared to other places. They’ve never messed up my order. Recommend the yummy yummy roll but everything is delicious here. If you order on their website there’s a discount. They deliver as well.

My fiancé and I eat here all the time and I’ve never left a review. This is our favorite sushi place. The sushi is outstanding and fresh every time, and the prices are good. You can easily get plenty of rolls and not break the bank like you would at some of these chain sushi spots. Service is always great too. We love it.

Wow being in the restaurant industry I realized I have visited many sushi restaurants! But in the past and always I got back to the best the original sushi Logo! Kampai! For years a staple now a legend . Love it old school sushi by master sushi chefs ! First the pan fried gyoza was amazing with the sauce w ginger lord! Then the spring rolls were crunchy fresh wow! We ordered rolls wow the crunchy tuna roll was awesome and the dragon roll yummmm but the recommendation from our server she was awesome the rainbow roll was the best . Rainbow as in a roll w shrimp on top one with tuna fresh one with white fish one with salmon amazinggggg! The crunchy tuna was so fresh delish love the spicy mayo! Of course the fried shrimp was ahhhhh! Some Sapporo beer cold to go with the sushi and you have a sushi dream. Still the best Kampai scores!

The servers were amazing and super nice. The food was amazing, had the miso soup to start with and even just the taste of it made me realize how good this place was going to be. Had salmon skin roll was pretty good too, and they even made the sauté with chicken instead of the seafood on the menu for me. Just amazing work they really seem to care for the people that come in. I Can’t recommend it enough 💕. The mango sticky rice was so good too they really made sure to get the most ripped mango even in the off season. They really went up and beyond with there service.

I went here as a quick place to eat on my way to a appointment. Small parking lot and nothing fancy inside. The host and waitress were very attentive and quick to take our order and bring out our food which was perfect for us because we had very little time. The food presentation was incredible. I ordered chicken fried rice and it was not at all greasy and cooked and tasted amazing. Others had ordered sushi with conch which you don’t see often on a menu. The sliced avocado on top look like artwork. Fresh and amazing. We also had The Aji tuna bowl which wasn’t on the menu but when we asked they were able to accommodate us. Everything tasted fresh even down to the ginger and all other sides and reasonably priced. All around great simple place that we will plan another visit.

I love this place. We come here for regular dinners, quick birthday celebrations, order take out for family gatherings, etc. The food and the service are awesome. Tuna tower is one of my favorite dishes and it’s been the same great quality for years that I have been visiting this place. All sushi rolls are great. I stick to raw rolls, but my wife only orders cooked fish on her rolls and they are all fantastic and tasty. Highly recommend Kampai.

Food was really good, sadly the service is terrible, you have to be on top of the waitresses asking for the food, we were 3, and di not serve us on time, one was waiting the other 2 watching, then the appetizers came after the main course, too disorganized. The environment is family and friends oriented. Waiting time for the food to start serving was about 43 min. I always have a timer so I can see how long does it take to get served.

Traditional restaurant with the black laquer wood and the booths and small wooden tables. The atmosphere is old school tradition. Nothing fancy, which doesn't take away from the food. As it should be. Menu has a good variety of rolls, but I always dance between the same 3 or 4. Good gioza, good shrimp and the fried rice they make (it isn't the typical Chinese rice recipe, because this isn't a Chinese restaurant) is interesting. The prices are $$-$$$ not exactly cheap but with everything getting more and more expensive, about what one would expect. The staff I have interacted with are pleasant. Good refills on soda, sometimes a tad slow. The parking is a nightmare if the lot is full, and ok if it isn't. Don't expect a whole bunch of space here to maneuver. Alley in the back that feeds to 87th Ave has some of the worse pot holes in existence. Speeding could result in losing an axle. Smoking is ok outside, if you're lucky, you get to smoke with the wait staff and cooks. Over all expectations and experiences have been good, the multiple times I've been. Recommend. As luck would have it, we never wait for a table due to the hour we show up. I would imagine on weekends the place gets slammed, so waiting is to be expected.

Kampai Sunset is our go-to mom-and-pop sushi restaurant, and it’s hands down one of the best in Miami for high-quality Japanese and Thai food. We’re regulars here—my wife, kids, in-laws, and friends—and whether it’s lunch or dinner, we find ourselves coming back multiple times a week. What makes Kampai special is not just the consistently fresh and delicious food, but also how welcoming they are to our whole family. Even our two boys under 3 years old love it here, and there’s always something they enjoy. With such a long and varied menu, you truly can’t go wrong with any dish—every item is excellent. A true gem of a neighborhood restaurant with heart, quality, and amazing flavors.

Good sushi, not great. Good food, not great. Really good tempura cheese cake, not so good sticky rice. Owner/Chef if you read this, the interesting thing about sticky rice is mixing 2 things that are opposite not only in flavor but in temperature, cold not so sweet mango with hot sweet rice.

Kampai is a restaurant that has been part of the southwest Miami since I can remember. The sushi here is basic but fresh... nothing fancy. Prices are very good and service is attentive. They are observing social distancing and wearing gloves and masks. Table seating is limited as per county ordinances.

E
Eduardo Quiros

Customer service has come down tremendously. If the managers are not there, the service is miserable. Even if it is for takeout: they couldn't find the tab, and I asked for a simple exchange of a sauce for another, and they said they had to charge me. I've been a customer for over 20 years since they opened and didn't deserve that answer. What a shame...

I'm bit puzzled because this place has good reviews lots of people ordering in and out. I ordered crab ragoon it had no taste beauty and the beast sushi and hand roll absolutely no taste. I'm giving 3 stars because we ordered the chicken katsu and it was good.

We went for a lunch meeting on Friday. The food was good the service was great. I ordered the tofu with vegetables in a ginger sauce and my husband order some sushi. We didn't try enough plates, we were talking must of the time.I think we need to go back and tried other dishes, to truly be fair and give them a true rating. I will definitely be back and try other dishes, we love giving second chances!

Old restaurant not really updated over the years. The food is very good; however their customer service needs improvement. The manager completely lacks people skills.

I hadn't been there for years, it looks just like I remember it. Unfortunately the food was just ok, nothing like I remember my family though the same. It's been around for a long time.

The food overall was amazing, but we ordered a Tempura udon that was just beyond horrible. Hot water with soy sauce and frozen vegetables. I couldn’t eat it. They didn’t do anything to switch it for something else, and they charge the full prize for it. A shame.

My review is on the online ordering. I've done it 3 times and they messed 2 of those. My first order wasn't complete and I had to wait more time. Second was ready. My third one was not ready when I got there. They try to blame it on you for not calling ahead of arrival. Their printer wasn't working so my order was done when I got there. It just started working. Go figure. I ordered at 11:47am and its 12:45pm and I'm still waiting. And not even a free sauce for the inconvenience. Dinning in seems to be better.

Pros: Quick service, and good cuts of raw fish in both the sushi and sashimi. Pad Thai was alright. Cons: Miso soup was poor, cream cheese wontons were stale and obviously frozen, and an employee decided to start loudly drilling into the wall while confused diners were eating and had to stop conversations until he was done. Definitely overpriced for the quality ($70 for two people).

****Kampai has lost a long time customer due to their new delivery service.**** I have been a long time customer of Kampai’s. We routinely order delivery on Friday night. Unfortunately, they have now lost a customer. Tonight, I placed my order and got a call back saying that they no longer have delivery drivers and they have a new site for delivery orders. I went to the site and placed my order and found that they charge a $23.00 delivery fee and they expect a 20% tip on top of that! Yes, you get the 10% discount, but that does not make up for that ridiculous delivery fee. What a shame.

It was a good deal approximately 1 year ago, but it’s been in a steady decline. The Tuna Tower is 1/2 the size of what it used to be, the eel roll has a tiny piece when it used to be full size, and everything is in decline. Maybe they’re trying to do too much, as it used to be primarily a Japanese Restaurant and the Thai Menu is mediocre at best. Today we ordered Pad Thai specifically requesting “not spicy” and it was so spicy we had to discard it. The woman on the phone argued consistently that it wasn’t possible? I’m hoping they recover in the near future, but I’m choosing to skip it. It’s better to stick to one thing and do it well, than several mediocre options. By the way the “white fish” is Tilapia which is one of the cheapest fish in the market.

I ordered 3 steak teriyaki well done and I got 3 steak teriyaki meals raw as can be with nothing but fat and nerves. I waited 90 mins for the delivery which is fine under the circumstances but they need to make sure they people get good quality food. I will never order from this place again.

Tonight I came in at around 10:13PM. Mind you the restaurant closes at 10:30PM. Upon our arrival (I was with my boyfriend) I was greeted kindly by a female server I am familiar with but upon seating our server was a man who was in an obvious rush to get us out of the restaurant. I was trying to find something I'd ordered last time with a variety of different sushi rolls. I tried describing it and he rudely told me, "If you don't know what it is, I can't help you now you have a 1 minute window to order." I understand the establishment was closing down soon but my boyfriend and I were pressured to order food on their time. While the food was decent, the customer service was horrid. I'm still in shock from what took place, not to mention the man had a revolting man bun. I was frozen in my seat from the lack of hygeine on his part. His hair was a grease ball. The grease seeped from down his sideburns. He looked like he was stuck in the 60s, all he was missing was a leather jacket and pocket comb. Don't waste your life force here. Save yourself from the agony that is Kampai's grease hanzo.

Placed an order. The order didn't show through their service of door dash. Called the restaurant and they were uninterested in this situation had to fight for my money back after an hour and half with doordash. Eating cereal tonight folks. Save your money order Sawadde its further down 71st in this area, but they treat their customers with respect and have better quality food.

Good sushi, but service on delivery has been really shameful. Had to cancel the last 2 orders as after ordering with a 90 minutes ETA, got a message that would take more 1 hours. Bad service, they should then focus on dine-in only if they are not able to keep up with orders.

I’ve been a long time customer and we mainly place orders online for pickup at least twice a month. My main and only complaint because their food has always been fantastic, is that they changed their online ordering website and the new one is a complete disaster. I use to be able to pull up my previous orders and make changes or just reorder which would streamline the process. New is not always better.

I’ve been here several times over the years and the food has always been decent. But today I ordered a take out roll and when I got home there was a fly stuck on one of the pieces. So grossed out and upset! Definitely never going back again.

In a word, disappointing. Frankly that this quality could get 4.5 stars makes me despair of the quality of Asian cuisine in Miami. I did not think this would fly in any major US city. Take this boat for 2 as an example. First of all, it's way too much, nobody needs to eat this quantity for 2. The 4 types of fish are not at all fresh enough to warrant this amount of repetition between sashimi and nigri (the tuna in particular, to my palate, inedible). If your fish quality is substandard then at least go heavier on variety and rolls. When it comes to the rolls, the three cheapest and blandest types were chosen between California, Philadelphia, and what I perceive to be Florida. A bunch of cheese and processed "crab" is all I'm getting in my rolls. I'd give 0 stars if I could and am immeasurably unhappy to end our vacation this way.

This has been my only experience, where a restaurant serves you rainbow colored looking tuna full of mercury, and tells you it's OK to eat. I asked the bill and stormed out fuming as quickly as I could. I will Never visit this rat trap of a restaurant ever again. And you value your lives, yall would do the same.
