Great place! Excellent quality, ample selection, interesting & unusual items, attentive service, nice décor & ambience. Grilled whole fish superb (I had Red Snapper, my wife had Sea Bass) & a real bargain with the 50% special discount. Cuisine is authentically Greek but more sophisticated than most & has a few Italian (risotto) & French (soufflé) influences. They even gave us complimentary dessert wine. Overall, we were treated very well & were delighted with our meal. It's not cheap, but it's worth the price. We are sure to return. Try it for a special occasion. You'll love it.
Great spot love the Greek food especially the feta cheese.
As a native Greek, I was very proud and eager to introduce my husband to the finest Greek seafood traditions. I was not let down, we enjoyed the fish cakes, octopus appetizers followed by expertly done Cod and Branzino for dinner. Let's also talk about the bread..our waiter and staff were also super attentive. Warm ambiance. A must try staple after a long day at work.
My husband & I came on a weekend getaway. I cant say enough about how GREAT the service staff is here. From the hostess, who gave us 3 different seating options, to the service staff who attended to our drinks & meal efficiently and consistently. Food is phenomenal. If you enjoy simple preparation and great ingredients you will really enjoy this restaurant. I had the Bronzino and loved every bit of it. My husband wanted more complex flavors and was a little disappointed in his Sea Bass, but admitted his fish was cooked perfectly. We had no complaints. My husband agreed we had a wonderful dining experience and will come back here when we come back to NYC.
We attended a private concert event on Saturday night at Ammos. We had a reserved seating conflict. The owner took charge of our situation in a calm, cool, and stylish collective manner, to create a table just for the two of us, right next to the singer’s stage! Very nice of him!!! Despite how insanely busy it was, the staff was EXEMPLARY. Our server, Xanthi, was just lovely in her attentiveness and professionalism. The whole staff there worked, collaboratively, to ensure a great customer experience for all attendees. The food offerings were very good in diversity and taste with wonderful cocktail and wine selections.
Held a business dinner in one of their private rooms for 40 people. Food, service, atmosphere was excellent. Communication leading up to the vent was professional and accommodating. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Amazing! The octopus app was incredible, my salmon was one of the best I’ve had, their sorbet as great - they even nailed the first cocktail. Can’t wait to return, and soon.
Nick was an awesome waiter and the Chilean sea bass was excellent. Great selection on the menu for those looking for market fresh, Mediterranean/Greek style food.
This is just one of the nicest restaurants you can find in midtown. The food is extraordinary. The service is the kind you expect 50 years ago, very professional and very responsive. I have nothing bad to say about this place. The atmosphere, the food the service are all five star
Ammos Estiatorio is a favorite restaurant of mine, my family and friends. We frequent the establishment on a bi-monthly basis from upstate NY. The atmosphere is lovely, offering a haven from the hectic pace and noise of midtown. The food is consistently of high quality, and has been so over the course of eight years since we've been patrons. I have never had a bad meal, rather always appreciate the freshness and satisfying taste of the fish dishes, vegetables or whatever I've eaten. The wine selection is also wonderful, particularly the Greek wines. Adding to the wonderful food selection is the very professional demeanor of the restaurant staff. I have always experienced them to be attentive and responsive without ever hurrying us through a meal. Most recently I hosted a private event on a Saturday night for approximately 34 people. I was delighted by the assistance I received during the planning process from employee "Angela". She was extremely helpful and thorough in all aspects of planning my event, patiently allowing me the time to think through many options before making my decisions. I never felt rushed or pushed in any way. Rather, she was extremely reliable with a warm, calming demeanor, making it a very positive experience. Secondly, the staff who worked the event, "Amal" and "Daniel," managed the evening with great efficiency and professionalism. The party turned out to be a wonderful, lovely experience for all because of their assistance. Overall, I highly recommend Ammos Estiatorio for a wonderful dining experience and private event. It's a gem!
Great service and atmosphere. The server (Loku) was attentive, had good recommendations, and was great to deal with. Same with the attendant, the lady was friendly, and polite and offered a great welcome. Great staff! The food was good. As appetizers, We tried South African shrimps, Saganaki, and Crusted Roasted Sardines. The chees for the Saganaki, texture and quality it was great. For the main dish, we chose two types of fish and completed the dinner with honey and jam greek flan. In our opinion, the best dish was the main dish the Levreki (they de-bone it for you). Recommended. The sides vegetable risotto and french fries were ok. It's a great spot for a Greek restaurant with a great selection of wines. The cocktails were ok.
I read the review about a mojito being too strong, so the person gave the restaurant three stars. I am tired of people feeling too empowered. The atmosphere is excellent, the staff is fantastic, and the food is spectacular. Cheers!
The food was delicious. The design was reminding me something from the Greek islands. The service was excellent and our blonde server was amazing. She made us delicious suggestions for both food and wine! I will totally go back there again and again!!!
Amazing food, great service & the ambience very nice. The place is huge with many private rooms. Good spot for drinks & apps after work but for lunch and dinner as well. We loved it!
My party of 6 had dinner at Ammos last evening and the meal (and service) were outstanding. The fish was exceptional; light and flavorful. The steak and lamb chops were perfectly prepared as were the side dishes of vegetables. For dessert we had the chocolate souffle as well as the apple tart and it was debatable which was more delicious (and we are chocolate lovers). This is the second time we have eaten here and it will be our new "special occasion" restaurant.
Threw a private party there and it was perfection. Excellent help from Angela in planning and the food was outstanding. Will host many parties there in the future. Thank you Dimitris and Angela for a memorable party.
Always coming back. I been dinning in this restaurant for more than 10 years! Left Manhattan about 8 years ego but always come to visit and its will be one restaurant I will always go go dinners and recommend to every one of my friends and partners! The food is incredible fresh and delicious thank you Bruno chef of this magical kitchen! The hospitality unforgettable ! They are really make you feel welcome and very comfortable. I like to say thank you very much aging and can’t Waite when I’ll be back in NYC agin . Mrs Cafarella
We had the pleasure at dinning in the private room for our corporate happy hour! there were about 35 of us and the service was spectacular! I could not have chosen a better venue in proximity to our office with great food & WINE :)
I have eaten here several times, and the experience has always been stellar and worth it. The wait staff is informed and helpful without being intrusive. The food is consistently amazing, with the octopus being among the best I have eaten!
Stopped in for cocktails and hearty nibbles. Loved the ginger margaritas, and the sweet and spicy margaritas! The grilled octopus with fennel and onions, along with the selection of dips with warm pita were fantastic. Great salads and fabulous atmosphere! Service was attentive and friendly! Would highly recommend!
We are visiting from Denver and had come into the city to see a show. I wanted a nice place for dinner. We passed this restaurant as we were walking to the show, but I didn't write down the name. My husband found it on Google after the show and we had dinner. Meal was wonderful. The best dirty martini around! We were not rushed, very enjoyable evening. We were celebrating a late anniversary dinner, and was very happy. We will be back!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in New York. The food is great. Their lamb chops are out of this world. Great wine list. Service is fantastic as well. Amel is one of the best servers I’ve ever had.
Ammos is a high class restaurant with delicious meals. Appetizers are scrumptious. Main courses are wonderful. They recommend fish, and you should take them up on it. Desserts are good, too. For alcohol, beer selection is good. Wines are fine, though nothing special. Ammos could use a bigger offering of whiskeys, though. The staff is friendly, helpful and professional. They know their menu. They are on the spot with offering the next glass of wine and refilling water glasses. Atmosphere is upscale, quiet and comfortable. The space is large but set up so as not to seem like a warehouse.
This place is really good. Mediterranean food is definitely on par and it is super authentic. The service is amazing. The atmospheres amazing hats off to the chef. If you haven't tried this place I highly recommend trying it at least once. I will definitely be returning for sure
One of the best Greek restaurants in NYC. The decor will make you feel that you are on an island listening to the sound of the Aegean in the background, but in a classy way. The food, drinks and service are all excellent and authentic. This place is not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. We will be back!
Such a beautiful place. The atmosphere is so beautiful. The service was impeccable from the moment we entered the establishment. We waited at the back for our table. The bartender let us sample the wines before we made out choices. The manager walked us to our tables and carried our wine glasses...very classy. The servers were incredible. Three to a table. The food was delicious. Shout out to the spanikopita, grilled calamari, meatballs and 5 spreads with pita. The wine was delicious. Loved the pink bang rose. Will definitely return.
This was a great restaurant, very clean and well presented. It was quiet when we arrived, but we had an early dinner reservation. It soon filled up, and the atmosphere was lively. The service was great. Clearly, the staff knew exactly what they were doing and were very attentive, even with my kids, which I loved. They treated the children with the same courtesy as the adults, and I couldn't have asked for more. The food was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. It was well cooked and beautifully presented, and it is clear that the people who work here care about what they do! I would most definitely go back!
We recently hosted a small after-work cocktail event in the private room at Ammos, and it was absolutely perfect! The space was cozy and elegant, providing the ideal setting for our group of fewer than 20 people. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The drinks were expertly crafted, and the appetizers were delicious, with something to please everyone in our group. They took the time to ask if any of our guests had any dietary restrictions and then they helped that person pick the best options from the selections. A special shoutout to Pano & Daniel for going above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. If you're looking for a venue for an intimate gathering or event, I highly recommend Ammos. We'll definitely be back for more!
Very lovely restaurant. Atmosphere at the time I went caters to more of a business professional customers. Food was plated amazing and tasted very good. Staff was pleasant and polite.
We had a corporate dinner in the private room upstairs and everything was absolutely perfect! The food was excellent and the menu was well designed, the service was attentive, and the space had a great ambiance. I highly recommend!
A friend of ours hosted a private event at the restaurant so I didn't have the regular restaurant experience. But I can say the venue provides a classy, intimate setting for gathering of this kind. From what I could see, it's a bit on the smaller side so a party size of about 30-40 people would be ideal.
As a picky Greek... I tend to be very critical of Greek restaurants. Ammos took me back to the Greek islands. Food was fresh, wait staff were excellent and overall this place was stellar! Grilled Octopus and Fried calamari to start. Lamb chops were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Highly recommend this place!
I had an incredible experience at Ammos! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm, stylish, and inviting. The food was outstanding. Every dish was full of bold, authentic flavor and made with incredibly fresh ingredients. One of the standout features was their impressive selection of fresh fish. I ordered the sea bass, and it was absolutely phenomenal — perfectly grilled, moist, and delicately seasoned. You could genuinely taste the freshness. We also tried the grilled octopus, moussaka, and lamb chops — each dish was better than the last. The tzatziki was rich and creamy with just the right amount of garlic, paired perfectly with warm, fluffy pita bread. The drinks at Ammos were just as impressive. Their cocktails were well-balanced and creative — the ouzo-based one with citrus was especially refreshing — and the Greek wine selection was excellent, with a few hidden gems I hadn’t tried before. The service was top-notch. Friendly, knowledgeable staff made thoughtful recommendations and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout the evening. Ammos exceeded my expectations on every level. If you’re looking for authentic Greek cuisine, fresh seafood, and a fantastic atmosphere, this place is a must visit. I’m already looking forward to going back!
Five star all the way. Filet of Sole was delicious and cooked to perfection. The zucchini croquets were moist and among the best I have ever had. The linguine pasta with shrimp, also excellent.
Visited with family for a late dinner, and we were provided an upscale and traditional Greek dining experience. The decor is a marriage of elements from a Mediterranean harbor or seafood market, and elements you'd associate with white-tablecloth dining. It is extremely classy and the wait staff were all very knowledgeable on the dishes and wines to be had. Began my meal with a traditional spanakopita, which was probably my favorite dish of all that night. The menu is heavily seafood oriented, offering fresh shellfish, squid, and types of fish. I ordered the Plaki, which was Chilean Sea Bass baked in tomato sauce and capers. It didn't disappoint! The wines offered here are mostly Greek, which was new to me as I have not had one from the region before. The two I tried were as satisfying as the food. Although it is on the pricey side, you will immediately realize why that's the case once you are seated and begin eating. Excellent Greek spot to check out.
I booked a business lunch here in a semi-private space for 8 people. Even before the day of the event, the communication was phenomenal. They put together a menu and worked exceptionally well with our particular needs and preferences. Once there, the location is so convenient and there was a great buzzy atmosphere. The Greek staples on our prix-fixe menu hit the spot. After the event, they sent me finalized receipts without me having to ask (which is huge in the corporate world). Thank you so much and I look forward to returning soon.
We hosted a private business dinner in their wine cellar room. Ammos were very accommodating with our guests' dietary restrictions and responsive to any logistical changes we had ahead of the dinner. On the night, the food and service were amazing as well as the room set-up. Shout-out to Angela on their team! Would recommend for an intimate business dinner.
What a fabulous experience! Wine complimented the meal…. Everything was delicious Great atmosphere
The restaurant creates an appropriate mood. The cost structure seems carefully considered. The dishes showcase quality. The employees here performed at a legendary level. Everyone should visit this place at least once.
I can tell this place cares about food from my very first meal. I was so impressed by the service and the food. People who love exploring food will enjoy this place. This restaurant deserves my enthusiasm. We're sure to be back soon.
I visited Ammos for lunch last week and it was a DELICIOUS meal! We enjoyed a variety of appetizers, each was better than the next. I also coordinated a board dinner at Ammos and I heard nothing but great reviews. Angela and the team are quick to respond to emails to make the planning stress free. There are a few options for prix fixe so keeping the cost in line with what my company wanted to spend for a private room was quite easy. I highly recommend!
Ammos Estiatorio is one of New York’s newest entities. Classy customers, succulent dishes alongside of great service. Overall management is extremely attentive to detail. The wine list is extensive. We visited for the first time, and all five of us were fully satisfied. We treated HGTV TV personality and Disney+ design judge Lauren Makk to a celebratory dinner. After all, she was recently announced as our emerging entrepreneur cover star.
I come here a bunch for lunch. Service could be better. Food is quite good. The lamb gyro is great, as well as the octopus. The yogurt candied fruit dessert is delicious. I think the menu could be a bit more expansive and imaginative.
For another work event, the organizer selected a place that specializes in Greek dishes near our workplace, tucked at the corner of Vanderbilt Avenue and 45th Street in Midtown Manhattan. This place is spacious and elegant. We were led to a private mezzanine for the gathering of 14 people. It was a prix-fixe menu of appetizers, starters to share, main entrees, and desserts to share. For the first course, the group started with the following: - Octapodi: Sushi-quality grilled Mediterranean octopus, fennel, spring onions, roasted red peppers, sweet balsamic emulsion - Pikilia: Tzatziki, taramasalata, melitzanosalata, htipiti, skordalia, served with pita - Keftedes: Ground sirloin meatballs with barrel-aged feta & parsley cooked in tomato & basil sauce - Saganaki style Greek graviera cheese, dry figs, flambéed with Metaxa brandy We found the dishes delicious and elevated, with a nice presentation. We then followed it with our entree. My eyes caught Rizi Thalasinon: Tiger shrimp, finely chopped shellfish & fresh catch fish fillet in wild mushroom risotto & truffle oil. It tasted wonderful and was freshly made, but my only qualm is there were only two pieces of tiger prawns right in the middle of the plate. And we were served an assortment of savory house-made desserts such as baklava, Yiaorti, Sokolata, and fresh fruits, served with fresh brewed coffee & tea. With a very good first impression, I will definitely come back here to try their dinner menu.
We enjoyed a team lunch here and it was decent. I gave it 4 stars for the ambiance and the fact that the service was almost impeccable. They really did their best to take care of us. The majority of us ordered from the pre fixe menu and I was very satisfied with the portions but the food itself was nothing spectacular...it was decent. I would like to try their a la carte menu the next time I choose to come here for Greek food. I have enjoyed Greek food at other midtown establishments but the ambiance alone would encourage me to come back and give it another try.
I like this place. The appetizers are not something you're begging the chef to share recipes for. But, the fish is fresh, the staff is nice, the place looks great. It books up so make a rez. Perfect for dates, family, tourists, maybe not business if you want to talk because it does get loud. Try it; it's cute. Across Vanderbilt Ave from Grand Central makes it a sublime location. Would be a perfect night if going to One Vanderbilt and dinner...................maybe even to propose on top of the world? What a moment - and family awaiting at dinner here..? Your welcome for a story to tell your grandkids. :)
We had our office Christmas party here and everything was great.
The restaurant is easy to find. Just get off at 42nd Street on the 4, 5, or 6 subway lines then, while on 42nd Street, walk one block west to Vanderbilt Avenue, and three blocks, in the direction of 45th Street, to the restaurant. I ordered the lamb shank here, which I order often when I see it on menus. It was expensive, $42, but was delicious, and it came with a tasty mix of orzo with small pieces of onion with a light tasting tomato sauce (see my photo).
Very mixed first impression, as initially the place was too empty for the time and day and the appetizers were amazing. Then everything changed...the place was packed, however the main courses were not that great. While the ceviche and the octopus were by far one of the best, the steak was nowhere near being great. The service was top notch throughout the whole dinner.
Good food, everything we ordered was good - the dips, Greek salad and moussaka. Good service. A bit pricey for what it was. Bathroom desperately needs an upgrade to reach modern standards.
I’ve visited Ammos twice, once during peak lunch hour and once for dinner. I recommend making a reservation, as lunchtime gets very busy, while dinner is much quieter. The fish here is incredibly fresh, though a bit on the pricier side since it’s sold at market price by the pound. The sea bass is my personal favorite—perfectly grilled, with a nice char, and deboned for your convenience. The service is also great; everyone is friendly and attentive.
Decent food and drinks but way too many people which made it increasingly difficult to enjoy a conversation with my colleagues. The table they sat us at was by the door and at least 25 people hit my chair as they went thru the door to go to the outside tables. With all the places to go to in Manhattan I probably wouldn’t go back.
Had a lunch here and left thoroughly underwhelmed. We split calamari, spanakopita, a salad, and a red snapper. I would say things were just ok, I've had much better spanakopita. And the red snapper was just off somehow. Nice place, but the food didn't meet expectations
Overpriced without living up to it. I don't mind paying a lot for food once in a while as long as it's good, but Ammos just charges a lot. Ordered a bunch of appetizers for a party of four as a sort of Greek tapas dinner, but the waiter didn't get the point of it and brought them all out at once. There wasn't enough room on the table, so they started stacking them. Waiters interrupt active conversations constantly. The fried cheese was very good, but the grilled octopus was not. The steak meatballs were good, but not the fried shrimp. The bread was not fresh. The wine by the glass is all Greek wine and it's terrible. The spanikopita was good.
I went for a late lunch with my wife and friends, and the server dropped a bottle of be on my friend and my friend's jacket. I understand completely it was an accident, but there was no acknowledgment from staff or managers. When we got the check, nothing was offered. The server was nice and apologetic, but a manager should touch the table and make sure we were ok.
We made a reservation for 15 for Happy Hour and were promised the back corner. Instead we were inside the front door—crowded, cold and EXTREMELY LOUD!! We couldn’t hear each other. Appetizers were mediocre. Meatballs had a hair on it so we obviously didn’t eat them. Servers were constantly interrupting our conversations, asking to remove dishes when we were still eating?? Angela at the front desk was very sweet! Will never bring our group here again.
I took a client out to lunch after doing much research for good eats in the area. I was looking forward to visiting as this place was also recommended by locals. The food was good (nothing to write home about), but it really deflated my experience to receive abrupt and rushed service from server Kostas. He could not have a more annoyed tone when we asked questions about the menu and it really dampened the mood. The food did not make the subpar service worth it. Not returning again.
Located right next to Grand Central Terminal, parking available (if you’re lucky), seating available outside, inside great ambiance, (although tight spaces, it’s Manhattan after all), and excellent service from beginning to end. The food is primarily Greek, and more so, authentic Greek. We tried two appetizers and two main dishes, as well as wine. Everything overall was well cooked, properly seasoned and had good flavor, but nothing amazing to write home about, not impressive. I’d recommend Ammos, if you want to try good and authentic Greek food and also don’t want to go too far from Grand Central terminal.
Went there with my mum before she caught a train at GCT. Wildly overpriced for what it is. A tiny calamari starter was $28, and three glasses of prosecco somehow came out to almost $60. Plenty of better options around GCT with actual variety and happy hour deals—unless you enjoy spending $100 on a rushed drink and a sad snack.
This Greek seafood-focused restaurant has somewhat dim neutral to bluish lighting, leading to a calm atmosphere. It's semi-formal in nature, with nothing in particular marking it as especially formal or casual. I'd bring the grandparents and in-laws here, maybe not very young children. I'd definitely be happy coming here with colleagues or for lunch with friends too, though. The atmosphere is perfect for date night. The bar is quite expansive. The octopus appetizer was absolutely delicious and stunning in presentation, with a huge intact octopus leg being served that was cooked nicely - it had a char on it, but it wasn't overdone or rubbery. We had lamb chops for a main, which, nothing to complain about. My dining partner quite liked them, but I'm not a lamb person, so I'll take his word for it. The mashed potatoes were delicious. We had a lobster mango salad as well, which was an odd combination, to say the least. Personally, I think a mango chutney would have been better. The textures of the mango chunks and lobster didn't quite go together, and neither did the tastes, in my opinion. It's quite hard to pull off unconventional combinations like this one, and in this instance, we preferred to eat the lobster and mango separately. The desserts were lovely - a perfectly warm chocolate lava cake and a vanilla flan. These were rich and delicious. Standard, not exceptionally creative in any way, but very good renditions of the classics. The service was fine. One of our servers was much more experienced and took good care of us, filling up our water and explaining the dishes well. However, when I dropped a knife and someone else came to give me a replacement, he told me to leave the knife on the floor when I bent to reach for it and said it's fine, he'd grab it later. Personally, because it was a serrated knife, I felt it would be a bit safer to pick it up immediately, or at least let me get it for him. I didn't like having it on the floor by my feet. Overall, it seemed a tad disappointing for the price point ($265 for 2 people). Some good dishes, some bad, nothing that blew me out of the water, I guess. Not a bad place for a nice dinner, but in the middle of New York, I've had better at a similar price point. As others have said, if you have an expense account to use for a business dinner, this is great for that. But if not, the price doesn't seem fully justified.
Very nice location by the Vanderbilt/Summit and Grand Central. Nice atmosphere. Decent menu by description. By the prices are too high even for this section of Manhattan and the food lacked any form of seasoning. There is to salt and pepper at the table and the server never asked if we needed anything else. The price fixe menu is fine but anything seafood had a $15 up charge. So 55 went to 85. The dessert was blah. I love pistachio so cream. It has too many hazelnuts or something and I can’t stand getting ice cream that is sitting in melting ice cream. Overall, it was ok. Don’t know if a basic lunch for 4 with NO DRINKS should be $300.
If I had an expense account, this would be the place to waste money at. However, without one, the prices seem extremely high for the mediocre fish and cocktails. The service was decent, probably because one of my dining companions knew the manager. Our group of five shared some appetizers and each ordered grilled fish as the main course. Unfortunately, the fish lacked flavor and needed more seasoning. This is surprising, as I usually prefer a more natural taste. As a fish enthusiast, I could easily buy black cod from Whole Foods and air fry it for a fraction of the price, and enjoy it more.
A coworker and I decided to come here and I gave her rave reviews of a dinner I had here pre pandemic days! We ordered spanakopita(good) calamari(perfectly cooked) lamb burgers (not seasoned at all) and the walnut cake(too sweet) We had to run so ordered our dessert to go, boy was that a mistake. They didn’t even package the ice cream for us which it was supposed to come with. We were highly disappointed- and the walnut cake was so sweet! I’m not sure I will visit here for lunch again, but may come back for dinner.
The waiters and overall staff are great people, and the walnut cake is to die for. Best dessert I ever had, usually I’m not a big fan of any nut type cake but this dessert was the best, highly recommend trying. Reason I’m giving 3 stars (wanted to give 3 and half) is that the strawberry mojito is way to strong and not that good compared to other places that make mojitos which are refreshing. The chicken was way too dry for my taste. Overall the atmosphere and the staff is great, I’ll give a second shot to try other entrees in future.
Beautiful restaurant in a great location in mid town . The food however is disappointing. With low price for lunch you may pay with quality. The burgers were served nicely but were dry. The Rizi vegetarian was tasteless and the fish was so so. There are much better Greek restaurants in mid town.
Food is very mediocre. The chicken dish I ordered was very dry and I told the waiter if they could ask the chef to fix it up, They did not do anything except taking away my plate!! Beautiful restaurant but would not recommend if you would like to get good food. The Bathroom is not very clean. Very Disappointing for a Fancy restaurant to have similar usual public bathroom.
The hostess was very rude and would not seat the first person of the party to arrive, even though it was only two of us and the restaurant was not busy. The food was mediocre at best and way overpriced. The octopus was slimy and fishy. The tomatoes in the Greek salad were mushy and pithy. The chicken on top was cold and flavorless (it looked like the pre-cooked “grilled chicken” you can buy in the supermarket).
Awful, unseasoned food. Prices are not just unreasonable, they are frankly robbery. You can get much better greek food almost anywhere else in the city. Moussaka tasted like nothing, as if no salt or seasoning was added at all. $40 shrimp salad had *three* shrimp, haphazardly chopped tomatoes, and unpleasantly large chunks of bell pepper with some feta and that’s it. Sad to leave such a negative review but it was truly horrendous. Only saving grace was the service and ambiance, which were nice.
Overrated, over priced and underserved. The restaurant took the pandemic re-opening as a sign of greed and jealous. 3 course meal for $75 for a Valentine’s dinner it’s unreal. Now, I’ve been to hundreds of restaurants, so it’s not like I don’t dine out to fine restaurants, but this one was mouth opening. We ordered both fish dish on the menu, chicken and pasta. It was tasteless and very disgusting. I would rather eat at Arby’s (fast food) then this food again. Finally, we waited for 40 minutes to get our checks to pay, meanwhile there were couples waiting for tables! Management should have hired more people to wait on tables, and pay special attention to customers. Valentine’s dinner dissatisfaction disappointment.
Business dinner of 6 on 9/10/24. 3 of us ordered pan seared tuna. They recommended medium rare. ALL 3 of us got sick.
Quite possibly one of the most disappointing and expensive meals in this wonderful city where you can eat just about everything. Pre-covid, my husband came here a lot and had a good experience. It seems the restaurant has improved its decor and doubled all the prices. Hoping for an enjoyable pre-theatre meal, we sat down. We ordered the taramasolata to share as an appetizer. What arrived was a bright pink dish that tasted so unappetising and NOTHING like Taramasolata that we sent it back. We were offered a spicy cream cheese dip on the house, which, at least wasn’t pink but pretty unappealing. The fish price is sneakily per pound but that is hidden at the bottom of the menu description instead of next to the price - and comes with nothing, so add on side dishes. The moussaka was luke warm, and includes zucchini and small amounts of eggplant and was not enjoyable. We waited forever for our main dishes and had to rush eating them in 8 minutes, as we had to get to our show- and we made the reservation with plenty of time to enjoy 2, if not 3 courses. The fish came to $52 for something available at a close by Mediterranean restaurant for $37 INCLUDING VEGETABLES! To top off this disgraceful experience, an ‘operating fee’ of $5.78 was added to the bill- (isn’t that the business of a restaurant?) We just wanted to get out and didn’t question the fee - just paid and left incredibly disappointed and determined others should not book here. You only get one chance to impress and this fell down on everything
This food was absolutely disgusting. I felt like I was eating food worse than airplane food. It was slimy, the vegetables came out of a can, the food was wet and tasteless. No one as my table was able to down more than 2 forkfuls of their meals max. We left and they still charged us full charge even though we ate hardly a thing. Absolutely awful experience
Location is okay. Service was amazing. Food was disgusting. I ordered the tzatziki, saganaki and the chicken for dinner. The tzatziki tasted sour and dry, the saganaki tasted like it went bad and then they breaded and fried it up with onion? Then the chicken was so dry and tasteless. The best thing was the side of vegetables on my plate- but not even that could make the chicken dish better.
I got there alone around 2:00 pm place was pretty empty only 2 tables and two people at the bar. Was alone traveling. Server wanted me to sit in the middle of the restaurant, I explained I do t want to sit in the middle. He gave me an attitude; like I was asking for the queens chair. Finally I asked for one sit in the back. “Like I said nobody hardly ther” proudly I’m Greek I ordered horyiati salad tomatoes were old. Lots of green and red peppers; feta was ok. Then I asked what I wanted for dinner as, he told me about special, not for me don’t care for sword fish. Finally I asked what fish wash fresh ? He responded all of them they get delivered from Greece every day( not true ) because they should have been there 7am . Staff kept looking at me? I didn’t stay longer but they told there closing for lunch wanted me to check out, server asked if I wanted another wine on the house I said no thank you. My bill was astronomical expensive. Fish dish was gross in butter and old vegetables. I asked for dressing on the side. He gave me a little pourer “ he said was olive oil” not butter! So as the evening went on came back to my hotel my stomach was killing me. I definitely got food poisoning. I don’t recommend this place at all! I’m sure there’s plenty of Greek food restaurants. Especially that I’m Greek foodie
We were shocked by how poorly this experience was handled. We ordered a fish dish without being told the weight, portion size, or cost only to be presented with a bill charging us nearly $300 for it. When we asked about the price and pointed out that the fish was absolutely full of bones and hard to eat, we were met with defensiveness from the server and told by the manager, "if it's full of bones, it's fresh." That is not how hospitality works. "Fresh" doesn't mean dangerous or unprepared and at this price point, you expect transparency, professionalism, and respect. We received none of those things. We paid the bill and we won't be back. There are too many incredible restaurants in this city that know how to treat guests right this is not one of them.
Horrible. We came to Ammos for dinner and walked out after trying our dishes. We should have taken the hint when another table nearby did the same. As the pictures show, everything seems to come with the same soggy, canned vegetables. The food was tasteless. No amount of lemon squeeze or salt could save the red snapper that was also so overcooked it had the texture of chicken. The orzo tasted like chlorine water and the Brussels sprouts were boiled and soaked in water and, again, the same canned vegetables. The manager offered us another dish to “find something we like” but considering the three dishes we ordered were all the same, I doubt that would have happened. I have had better meals on airplanes and in college cafeterias. And to top it all off, this trough slop was not cheap and we got nothing off the bill.
