My new favorite pizza shop. Just be sure to bring cash. They don’t offer delivery but that’s fine.
One of my favorite spots for Pizza when I’m in uptown Manhattan. Can’t go wrong with a slice and a beef patty. Delicious
Old school pizza joint. Easy.
best pizza in NYC I've been going there since I was a kid now I live 1 hour away and I still come for there pizza that's how great it is
I love the place guys are very friendly the way delicious is sanitary is a family orientation it's small but it's just what they need to sell their delicious food I had I was hungry and my family too and I went real fast they had it ready their Lifesavers very good very good prices it's wonderful and they say but pretty late open
A Neighborhood institution! This is hands down some of the best pizza in NYC and I would recommend this spot to any pizza connoisseur!
A true New York pizza establishment. You won’t get this good pizza at joes
Best place for pizza ever I've been eating it since a kid and have compared it yo many others all over the country nothing like Johnny's ever. It the first stop I make when I come visit the neighborhood.
The best pizza in New York City. The best. Don't let anyone try to fob off some other pizza as best because they are wrong. Look, they don't deliver. I walk the 5 blocks to pick up my pizza, anyway. In the snow. Uphill both ways! The place is always full of locals who know what's up.If you've lived in Inwood for more than a few months you know this is the best. You can't call yourself part of this nabe until you've had it.
I went yesterday first time love it highly recommended if you like pizza big slides
Best pizza ever, I moved to New Jersey a few years ago from the city. and still travel to their pizzeria for pizza , haven't found a pizzeria that beats them. Will continue traveling to NY whenever in the mood for pizza!
I can honestly say I have been eating pizza from Pizza Palace since I was born. It's both my childhood and neighborhood pizzarria best pizza ever. Not only great food but you never get bad service they have the best people running the business.
Best pizza in uptown , hands down been eating there for 43 years
Great slices. Ask 4 well done so the crust won't b doughy. There's usually a line which means the pizza is delicious.
My question to anyone who rated this under a 5 due to the quality of the pizza was what the heck was wrong? Best pizza in all of NYC. I have tried pizza from Jersey,Connecticut, Florida,Cali, & PA and nothing AT ALL compares to a slice of johnnys. I wish I can relive each bite I take of this pizza lol
I am not from this area. My family and I were driving through and this was the only open pizzeria in the area. This pizza was very good and the guys behind the counter are cool friendly dudes. As a matter of fact it was excellent.Cant wait to go back. And thank you for being open on Chrsitnas.
Best pizza I’ve had since living in NYC
Best Pizza I have ever had. No other comes close. I've been coming here since I was a kid and always travel back.
Always a pleasure with great service, and a huge slice. The sicilian's though.... rockin !! They still are cash only with the same old register.. It gets crowded fast, even more so now than before, due to Covid.
Best pizza i nyc my family been going here before i was born my grandmother apt still down the road glad i still get to enjoy this master piece wish they would add vegan cheese for me
The very best! What a good surprise, right around the corner from our apartment in the Imwood area!! Great, superb crust and cheese. Friendly older guys own this store, nice!
Hands down the best pizza I’ve ever had. I travel over 2 miles just to get a couple slices!
I've lived in this city, and neighborhood for over 45 years, I have tried many pizza joints throughout the city and I have yet to have a slice as delicious as the ones from pizza palace. This place has been a staple in this neighborhood for as long as I've been alive. No other slices compare. I've also never had a better Sicilian, or lasagna as well. they make monstrous portions at an affordable price. The guys that work there have been there forever. It is beloved by every single person in this neighborhood. This establishment deserve all the praise that they get.
The pizza here was absolutely perfect! On my most recent trip to NYC I tried just about as many pizza places as I could (probably around 10). Pizza Palace definitely ranked among the very best pizza I could find in the city. I'll definitely be back!
$19 for a large cheese. Cash only, no delivery. Delicious when hot and fresh. The cheese is great and the crust is very filling. $3 for a slice is worth it imo. Happy to call this place my default for pizza in the neighborhood.
Their pizza is the real deal. BIG slices, the way a NY slice was meant to be made. Can go toe to toe with some of the more famous places downtown. The other options in the area don't hold a candle to this place. They have been around forever and know what they are doing. Do yourself a favor and visit them.
I'm not quite sure if it's the best pizza I ever had since I eat pizza way too much, but on vacation I had to try this place because all the hype. The service is amazing you walk in they take care of you quick. The pizza is also very good...I mean I had about 5 slices on my 4 day stay in the area. The beef Patty also very good. Highly recommend it.
I am from Atlanta and wanted to try NY Pizza and found this place. First day here I tried a slice of sausage and it was great, a lot of sausage and cheese. Next time I tried the meatball hoaie and it was delicious as well and also a ton of cheese. I will go back again before I leave.
They have been here for forever and the pizza still taste the same good as hell a chicken slice oh my goodness if you want a real slice of pizza check them out for real you'll see what I am talking about enjoy and think about me when you try it
Best pizza in Dyckman! If you want some good pizza this is the place to go. The pizza are $2.75 and up! It maybe pricey for some people but it’s okay with me. The only thing that I don’t like about this place is that it’s always crowded and their limited place to sit or stand. But then again it could be considered a good thing. If you go here I will recommend to take your food home and enjoy it there.
Definitely the best pizza for miles... the sauce is extremely tasty and the smell alone will have your mouth water.. it might be just my taste buds but it's exactly like Famous Sam's pizza over in Spanish Harlem on 116th street. If your a pizza lover then this is a must try.
Best pizza I've tried in all of NYC, friendly family-run business, good service. Exactly how a small pizza joint should be operated. I love the chicken slices, plenty of toppings. You will not be disappointed!
The best Sicilian slice in the city. If there was a citywide, statewide or even worldwide competition I'd put my money on these. The cheese when done right and fresh out of the oven has a sweet lemony flavor to it. The balance of cheese, sauce and bread is incredible and every piece has its unique appeal. Corners with 2 sides crust, Sides with 1 side crust and the middle piece with no crusts at all on either side. If you are ever in the are you owe it to yourself to pay this shop a visit if you are in the mood for pizza. On weekends they are open late but probably will only make Sicilian slices at that hour if there is a demand or someone orders a pie. They have great slices as well and their chicken slice is delicious. Try out other items on the menu, their lasagna is also very popular.
I have been living in this neighborhood for up to 33 years and this is still the best pizza way uptown. The guys are old school and very very nice. They ONLY accept CASH! So,be prepared. It's worth it! 😊
It's an old family owned business been around since I was kid. And you can't go wrong the taste the size Phenomenal. It's a small joint but they offer seating. It's a place like Cheers everybody knows your name!
You will NOT find anything better in the uptown, Inwood/Washington heights area. One of the best pizza shops in the city; hands down! Johnny's, as many of us who grew up eating the pizza here call it, consider this shop a landmark in our neighborhood and key component of our upbringing. Definitely get the sicilian slice when they come out fresh from the oven.
Grew up in the projects and went to St. Jude's school. Had home lunch but went here instead with others. George always had the pizza waiting for me just right and hot. Bypassed a lot of good places to eat just to eat here. And yes!! The best in the country !!!
Large slices made to order, wonderful staff, they really have what it takes to be the neighborhood choice for a slice! The crust was perfect - starts with a crunch; the inside was not dense but somehow a bit fluffy and airy. They also sell made to order Jamaican patties here and the filling in the beef patties were very flavorful. Instagram: @thenomadicfoodie
This is a childhood place I went and still get pizza. Every person that I've came across with treated us like family. There pizza are always fresh. There pizza bread is amazing. Sicilian is a must try.
I have been going to this pizza shop for over 20 years and it never disappoints . Had conversation with the team there and asked them what their secret was . They told me " the ingredients" They use the best quality in their food and because of the high volume of purchases they are able to make it affordable to the neighborhood. SHTTTTTT im about to go get one right now. I just signed in to see what time they close lol.. With the high rents in the area and all the businesses closing down this is one business that has stood the test of times and the pizza speaks for itself .
Best pizza ever!!!! And I have been around . Nothing compares. If you know, you know .
Authentic NYC pizza experience. Referred by local guy eating awesome pizza on the street!!
I've lived on Nagle Avenue since 1968, and I still do. I've also been eating my pizza at Johns just as long. This place is an icon and holds many good memories for me. Everything is always fresh and clean and the service and prices are great.
Number one lasagna in Manhattan. Excellent service.
The Last of The Last authentic Italian Pizzerias in Uptown NYC, I have been coming to this place since a kid, and living in NJ, its a must stop when visiting the old neighborhood, and it still has the old nostalgic 80's feel. The sicilian pizza is the best I've had.. and the staff is very friendly and still has the owners working alongside them.. Go check them out!
Love this place!!! I had never been here until a few weeks ago but always hear my partner and his friends talking good about this spot so I decided to give it a try and got some slices for me to roll up to the movies. They were delishhhhh!!! Came back twice after that and ALWAYS receive the same great attention and customer service. The oven is right there in front of you and you can see them making the pizzas. The spot is also super tiny like can size and it's never empty, sometimes crowded, guess that's good. Try it out if you're ever in Dyckman. Xoxo -Post review
I haven't been here in quite some time but decided to grab a bite while I was near by. Definitely did not regret, This pizza is worth it. It's a neighborhood staple for a reason.
Stopped in and got 3 slices to go . First off the size is huge that I couldn't even finish . Will enjoy what's left later as a snack . 2 slices in freezer for later time . Just wish they delivered . Thanks
One of the best squares and regular slices in nyc which means one of the best in the world
Best Pizza place ever lol. They are like family and if love had a taste this would be it.
I cannot stress enough how delicious and saucy this pizza is. Around the neighborhood everyone knows this place as “the best pizza in Dyckman” and the sayings are true! The slices are always hot but not to the point where the cheese will burn you. The pizza is never too greasy and the best part of each slice is the size… It is…HUGE, bigger than the plate and for the amazing taste and big slice, it has a reasonable price of just three dollars! The workers are super friendly and very quick as soon as you order. All in all, this is the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life, and I usually don’t even like pizza! I’ve recommended the place to atleast 4 of my closest friends and they’ve each told me the same. It seriously is the best pizza in Dyckman and maybe even the world?!
One of my favorite places in NYC to have a slice! Ordered pepperoni slice. Pizza was hot & cheesy, flavorful, with crispy crust. The 3 guys worked like a machine preparing each pie, slice, or pasta. Its a small but great place!
Down to earth and old-school feel in store , plus the pizza is amazing fresh out the oven , can’t wait to go back
Best Pizza in the area. Me and my family used to come here literally all the time back when a slice was 1.50. The guys in there are the greatest people I met especially George. George was always so great and funny and he always hooked us up. I miss the guys and the pizza here and I will definitely have to make a trip up there one day.Hope to you all soon.
YOU DONT EVEN KNOW!!! Best Pizza in the world ...Period! I've been to Europe, LA & Miami ... nowhere has there been better pizza than here PIZZA PALACE I grew up living in this neighborhood for over 25 yrs! BEST SICILIAN (thick square pizza) SLICES BEST PIZZA SLICES in the world ( ALL PIZZA is compared to and by THIS pizza... PERIOD! 👍👌😃
I have tried to compare pizza from the area to this one, sorry, no comparison can be made. This right here is a pure loved family pizzeria, everything is fresh. The workers are so respectful and the owner is just, out of this world, with such a huge heart. The slices are huge. Yeah stop by, take your kids, small place but enjoyable. BEST PIZZA IN DYCKMAN PERIOD!!!!
This place makes some delicious slices and they're huge. Great value and great pizza! It is cash only, so keep that in mind.
Hands down the best pizza in Manhattan maybe even New York this spot has been opened longer then I been alive more then 4 decades. They don't have delivery and they don't accept cards or any type of digital payments just good ol cash even the register is antique... Grab a slice grab a pie you won't regret it
I can honestly say they make the best Sicilian pizza I have ever tried these guys are the inspiration that got me into this business thanks pizza palace keep slinging them sexy pies out
Best pizza in NYC. Been going there since I was a baby. Best real Italian pizza. The Best sicilian pizza ever too. Still haven't been to another pizza shop to knock this down from being number 1. Not even out of state. I recommend this pizza place if you are ever in NYC, head over to Dyckman and ask for Pizza Palace aka Johnny's pizza.
Excellent pizza. A small shop, with five tables for dining in. By the slice, service was quick. Appears to have a large carryout business, and a great place for a quick dine-in lunch.
I went 3 times in 4 days. One of the best pizzas in New York by a lot. The man who owns the pizza is just incredible and very nice. He respects the customers. The guys who work there are equally professional. Pizza with chicken or with cheese is just great. I will definitely go back.
Took my girl here and man oh man was the food delectable will definite be back and bringing the friends too!! Awesome experience. Must try!
My absolute favorite pizza in New York City!! Very authentic very friendly everything was perfect. My favorite place to treat myself!!!
Pizza Palace is serving up pizza magic. Huge slices and even bigger flavor. All we needed were a couple of plain, greasy slices to satisfy our hunger. It's the type of pizza you wish didn't fill you up so fast, so you could eat more and more. It's cash only, there is an ATM in the back, and it shows kindness and mental math still exists. The gentlemen helping us were great and I'll forever remember this pizza. Small place with ability to order at an outside or inside window. There are a few small tables inside you may be able to snag if lucky. Enjoy!!
Best Pizza in Upper Manhattan. On Dykeman St between Nagle St and Post Ave. Bring cash they do not take credit or debit cards. They do have an ATM.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Pizza Heroes is a must-stop slice of heaven! Right after leaving Columbia University, my son looked at me and said, "Dsa, we in New York — we gotta get some pizza!" So we found Pizza Heroes, and it did NOT disappoint. The crust was thin and crispy, the cheese melted just right, and the sauce had that perfect New York tang. The vibe was classic, the service was quick and friendly, and every bite reminded us why NYC pizza is legendary. This was the perfect way to end our visit — we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the city. Pizza Heroes lives up to the name!
Pizza Palace is the kind of place that you could walk right by without even noticing it. Tucked away on a side street in Dyckman, it's easy to miss the unassuming storefront with its simple sign that reads "Pizza Palace". But for those who know about it, Pizza Palace is a little slice of heaven in a city that's famous for its pizza. The interior of Pizza Palace is nothing fancy - just a few tables and chairs, a counter where you can order your food, and a large pizza oven that dominates the room. But it's the pizza that's the star of the show here, and for good reason. The pies at Pizza Palace are some of the best you'll find in the city, with a crispy, chewy crust that's the perfect balance of salty and sweet. The menu at Pizza Palace is simple - just a few classic pizza toppings like pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms, along with a few specialty pies like the "Meat Lovers" and the "Veggie Delight". But the simplicity is part of the charm here - there are no frills or gimmicks, just good old-fashioned pizza that's made with care and attention to detail. What really sets Pizza Palace apart, though, is the service. The staff here are friendly and welcoming, treating every customer like an old friend. They're quick with a smile and a joke, and they make you feel right at home from the moment you step through the door. All in all, Pizza Palace is a must-visit for anyone who loves pizza. It may not be the fanciest or most well-known pizzeria in the city, but it's got heart and soul, and that's what really matters. So next time you're in Dyckman, be sure to seek out this hidden gem - you won't be disappointed.
On this Good Friday, I decided to grab a fabulous Friday lunch which consists of a slice of plain pizza with black pepper and garlic on top. Next to the slice of pizza is a can of orange soda. When you are in the Inwood area, please feel free to stop by for one of the best pizza slices in New York. Stop by Johnny’s pizza on Dyckman today!
Been coming here since i was a kid. Always come here for there slices and lasgana and beef patties. Everything they do here is delicious. Sometimes you will find it pack but is a known place so what you expect. But the staff is very fast they always try they best to get you out fast. They make the food with love you taste it. I always love coming here. If you you haven't come here is a must best pizza ever.
BEST PIZZA IN NEW YORK CITY! This pizza tastes incredibly amazing. From the regular cheese slices to the chicken parmigiana, everything they make is at high quality taste and appearance for it being a local pizza spot. There's something about the cheese and the sauce that is used that makes the pizza taste better than the rest. Some slices are so big they don't even fit on a plate, its served on a tray. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND eating at this pizza establishment. Would explain why this place is still around since 1961, good food and great service. They truly are Pizza Heroes!
Best pizzeria hands down. I love they pizza. Very cheesy. It doesn't give me heart burn. And when I tell you I get heartburn from pizza and this one doesn't. The slices are big. I love this place just wish it was bigger. They are very nice. It's a real busy place but they are very organized that u don't wait long. They work in a fast pace. If u want pizza u have to come here. They don't do delivery.
No frills, dependable shop that always provides a decent quality product with solid reliability, even at odd hours and throughout the Covid lockdown. In a high crime neighborhood that hardly has any decent prepared food, this joint is a definite winner.
This slice nails 2 of 3 requirements for a superior slice; good crust and sufficient amount of cheese. What it lacks is a good tomato sauce. It lacked seasoning. I shouldn't have to do it.
9 times out of 10 when I walk into a pizzeria and there is an old Italian guy behind the counter im in for some good pizza. The pizza palace on Dyckman was no exception. the first thing I noticed about the place was that old New York pizza shop feel that that you dont get in more tourist friendly areas of the city. I can tell this place has looked exactly the same since the 1960s. It reminded me of Margherita Pizza on Jamaica Avenue. The pie: I ordered a Sicilian pizza pie for Game 7 of the NBA finals. For $25 i found it to be an exceptional value for such a hearty pie. This thing felt like it weighed 10 pounds when I picket it up. It was cut into 9 slices. This monster can feed 4 or 5 hungry people. I intended on having 3 slices but could not have more than 2. This is a quality Sicilian pie by the way. They use the REAL mozzarella not the imitation garbage most shops use nowadays and they give you lots of it! When you grab a slice the cheese stretches and drips all over the place. Its like I ordered EXTRA EXTRA cheese. The Sicilian is really deep so the slices are filling. My only complaint is that bottom of the pie and the crust were very lightly cooked. not crispy an crunchy like you get from some of the spots with the antique brick ovens. a little too soft for my liking. This isn't a deal breaker, next time ill ask for my pie to be cooked longer. Pizza palace gets a very solid 4.5 stars. They use the best ingredients and I definitely got my moneys worth. This is throwback NY pizza that makes no compromises. I wouldn't call it the best of the best as far as NYC pizza goes. I think the ovens at places like prince street pizza make the difference for those places. But its on my list of some of the better pizza that exists in New York today.
I moved to Inwood last yr and was hoping to find a good Pizza place. They do extra cheese the way I like it and the large is huuuge. Small interior but def worth it. The employees are fun to watch too and are very friendly.
I love they pizza nice size some days they can be a little off but when it's fresh and they put love into it it's delicious sauce cheese everything is great
Great pizza, hard working fellows, and very personable. They speak English and Spanish. Only down side is they have a limited amount of toppings, but still overall great!
Great place for local pizza. It does taste even better the the chain restaurants it a lil hole in the wall but great flavors. From paramedics/EMS, cops schools everyone love them. Be warned not very spacious
Nostalgia. I'm getting up there and there's something about a small pizzeria with that counter and a couple small dining tables. Yes the food is great they have a good sauce, nice! Staff is all business and it's just one of the last good ones left. Four stars only cuz they are straight cash only, no worries though there is a chase on the next corner! with that ancient cash register too, bellissimo! I take a friend here every other week for a slice a patty and some good conversation:) being inside one of these helps me forget how bad it's gotten outside.
This was the first time I've ever ordered there in the 45 yrs I've been living in the neighborhood. It's was good. Reminds me of the old NY pizza. Very cheesy and the sauce was tasty. The only thing that didn't make it perfect was the crust. I like it much thinner. For those who like a thicker crust, you must try.
Absolutely love the Pizza!!!! However extremely disappointed they don't deliver or take card payments! We are in 21th century, really wish they would catch up!!
First time ordering from this place and they completely messed up the order. They also do not have set prices. The pizza was pretty good though.
I have no idea how this place is so highly reviewed. This is one of the most unhygienic restaurants I’ve seen in my life. The person will handle someone’s money, then put cheese on your pizza with his bare hands, then someone else will take your pizza out the oven with their bare hands. Pizza slices are huge. Overly cheesy. Not too bad but I think overpriced at $4 a slice
Not worth driving to,it’s doughy and $3.50 per slice. A better option is > Monte Pizza 188st between Webster and Marion st. Napoli corner of Treamont ave and 3rd ave Bronx. Small pie $10.00
In 30 years I haven't had to throw a pizza away, until last night. I hope this was a fluke but the overproofed, overly oregano, undercooked pizza was more of a disappointment than the 4.7 stars would have lead me to believe. This pizza is not a thin crust as it has been mislabeled and compared to Totono's. The cheese was good and enough for two pies although the sauce overpowered the flavor of even twice the cheese. Overproofed dough in a place this busy leads me to believe that there is a tray of forgotten dough that they refused to throw out. Good luck guys.
