This is the best little coffee shop on the Upper West Side! Cozy and chill with a wonderful and friendly staff. Their espresso is so smooth, I barely add any cream and sugar, so yum! Solid State has merch as well with cute hoodies and hats. Plenty of seating in the back and a comfy waiting space. They are super fast too, so efficient and quick. Great music and vibes, I seriously look forward to going here when I visit New York. Great location, just 2 blocks from Central Park in a safe area surrounded by brownstones. I love this place and can’t wait to go back! Thanks and keep up the great work!

Great coffee, crowded space on the weekends! A little pricey, but that didnt deter folks... the line was practically out the door! Got a bacon cheddar Danish and it was delightful. Had to stop myself from getting more than one pastry. Be forewarned, the reviews are true: there's no wifi here. But the comfy seats and outlets make it a perfect spot to so offline work or catch up with friends

The top notch coffee is nearly matched by the incredible tunes they play. Love this place.

We cleaned up at Solid State for coffee, cheddar & bacon pastries amd a coconut creme latte! Cool place.

I love the coffee.. great roasting and flavors. Good espresso and batch brews. The food is INCREDIBLE. Classic toasts/sweets from Olga are my favorite. Please note that food is only available on the weekend right now.

One of the best coffee ive had during the NYC trip. The taste note was solid and clear not just plain bitter nothing. You can taste the tastenote as described. The staffs were also friendly and hospitable. There were also various of beans to choose from

They were very busy when we visited on a Friday morning around 10:30. We were fortunate and found a table after we ordered after a group of customers left. The latte was good. Nice location and atmosphere

Wonderful UWS cafe with very New York atmosphere. Great tasting coffee. I noticed this cafe because I saw that offer Syrnyki - which is a typical Unrainian dessert. So of course I ordered Syrniki and they were very tasty. I also recommend the overnight oats with fruits. Very tasty as well. Overall a wonderful buzzing cafe with great food options, coffee, pastries, and atmosphere. DD Verdict: GO HERE!

Solid State Coffee is a fantastic coffee shop with a surprisingly large amount of seating for New York City. They have a nice selection of beans for purchase, a wide variety of pastries, good selection of coffee options, and a nice food menu. I ordered a Mocha, Jelly filled donut, and a bacon cheddar danish. The mocha was just the right amount of bitter, partnering really well with the chocolate to not be over powered. The donut and danish were delicious, even though the danish was served at room temperature. Overall a great experience and worth coming again. I will also mention the restroom is really clean as well and well maintained.

Love how cozy this place is!! Met my friend for breakfast here and it was packed on a Friday morning. After ordering o soon realized why it was packed the staff is so kind and food was amazing! My friend and I both ordered different things so we could try it: apple danish, cheddar bacon danish, custard donut, flat white coffee and chai latte. I try chai everywhere and it was so good!!

I love the atmosphere at Solid State and the customer service is always pleasant. The cold brew blend stands on its own with great flavor and not too acidic in my opinion. My favorite breakfast choice is the avocado toast with soft boiled egg. Delicious and filling! This is a place I will frequent often and enjoy.

Awesome coffee shop! Got me by surprise with the Slavik staple - Sirniki. Highly recommended. The shop has plenty of space to work on your laptop, nice music and great coffee.

Looking for a hidden gem with top-notch coffee and small bites in the Upper West Side? Look no further. In a neighborhood full of casual coffee shops, Solid State Coffee doesn’t scream for attention. But step inside, and you’ll find a place that takes coffee very seriously- and does it exceptionally well. Drink Menu: The espresso selection is on point, with rich, perfectly calibrated shots that reward patience. Their lineup of single-origin beans provides a great variety for pour-over fans. If espresso isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other options, including matcha, masala chai, fresh orange juice, hot chocolate, and iced tea. No frills—just expertly crafted drinks that hit the spot! Food Menu: The food offerings are great, with locals frequently dropping by for a full meal. The menu is limited, but it’s a study in restraint, focusing on solid, well-portioned dishes. Breakfast and lunch offerings like the Scrambled State Sando, Salmon Plate, BLT, and Overnight Oats are generous in portion and thoughtfully prepared delivering a quality that rivals that of a full-fledged restaurant. In my opinion, it’s comparable to Danny Meyer’s Daily Provisions, and I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious these cafe staples can be! Ambiance: The café sits half a level below the street, making it easy to miss unless you know it’s there. That said, they have some outdoor seating at street level and a small terrace inside. Once inside, you’re greeted by an order kiosk where you can check out their pastry selection. There’s plenty of seating, but no free Wi-Fi—yet locals flock here to work or read, and during most weekdays, about 70% of the seats are filled. If you’re thinking of holding a meeting here, it’s probably not ideal. The tables are small and closely spaced, offering little privacy. But for a solo visit or a quick, high-quality coffee stop, Solid State Coffee is hard to beat.

On a trip to NYC, this quickly became our favorite coffee and breakfast spot as we were staying right across the street in Upper West Side! The staff were all so kind and helpful with suggestions. It’s apparent this place is ran smoothly… job well done! The coffee and food were both stellar!!! Compared to other shops in the city, this place had a good amount of space. Prices are to be expected in the city.

This is a bit of a mixed review. During our first visit (Friday), I could say I had one of the best lattes I ever had. The Salted Caramel latte was well balanced, the espresso was rich and full bodied, the milk was perfectly silky. The store had a cozy holiday vibe and was not as busy. The pastry I ordered was ok too. Based on my first visit, this place absolutely deserved 5 stars and beyond. The coffee was so amazing that I couldn’t stop thinking about it and we went back on Sunday morning. Sadly, the coffee wasn’t anywhere close to what I had two days earlier. Tried a different pastry which was ok too. I would say a 4 stars experience this time around? Maybe it was the Sunday barista that didn’t execute? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Averaged out, this place still gets 5 stars. I’ll try again during my next trip to NYC and adjust my review accordingly.

Seating is a bit tough in this popular spot, but the standing bar helps make up for it. I got a drip coffee and the toast with house jam and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the serving and the quality. The apple jam wasn't too sweet, the butter was flavorful, and the toasted sourdough was perfect. And the drip coffee was also quite nice. Glad I found this neighborhood gem.

H

Surprisingly difficult to find great coffee around Times Square, nearly impossible to find a cafe with sit down area to work, this place has both. Was so glad to find Solid State and want to acknowledge the perfectly aerated milk on the flat white. Greatly appreciated

C

I loved it here, if you’re feeling snacky then please try either the grilled cheese + tomato soup or an avocado toast; both of them come on a delicious bread which makes the price absolutely worth it. And everything is homemade, including the soup - which comes out to be way less acidic than other examples you’ll find which tear your stomach up - you know the ones. I really enjoyed my cortado too, the staff are all so friendly and accommodating which really completes the cozy atmosphere this place manages to set. The owner is chill, the owner’s wife is chill, the servers are all chill, and I can’t speak for the kitchen staff I didn’t meet but they’re probably chill and I know they at least make good food!

E

I got my coffee and breakfast plus some pastry. I like the place it’s very good to sit inside and outside. I ate avocado toast and BLT. It’s all fresh and I got cardamom bun. It’s so good. Totally suggested.

Spacious coffee shop with no WiFi. They still run out of seating often. Some limited outdoor seating available. Very well made cortado and ice lattes.

M
Mansura Movlanova

My favorite coffee spot! (I come here almost every other week!) Delicious strong coffee, and the vatrushka? Dreamy. Add a Central Park view, and you’ve got a perfect little coffee break.

A

The moring savory pancake(syrniki) and latte was so good! A relaxing space to catch up with friends. No wonder why it's full from weekday mornings.

D
Dhruv Patel

Incredibly coffee at Solid State. They are brewing it very well. The cardamom bun was tasty as well but not as good as La Cabra’s tbh. Lot of seating in the back, great place to hang out.

S
Stephanie Cheng

Good pumpkin spice latte but be ready to wait in line. I had no idea this was a morning club hangout for so many groups but that means people love the place

M
Mr. Kirkland Signature

Killer coffee shop with incredible coffee! This quaint little coffee shop is a treasure. Whatever roasts they’re using here are top notch - my Americano was silky smooth and miraculously creamy. Such a nice aroma in the room and from each drink… left me wanting a refill. Really cozy spot and plentiful indoor seating. Kuddos to the baristas for an incredible job!

E
Eren Shin

Cappuccino was alright, they have a restroom and decent amount of seating (including a small outside patio with some bar seating).

S
Sarah L

Loved this coffee and this place. It was a nice place to take a break from tons of walking. They have plenty of seating and seemed very friendly for pretty much anyone. There were families, students, and couples. The kids were having fun and didn't seem to bother the staff any which is nice to see. They have an outdoor space but it was raining the day we were there. Oh well.

J
Javier Murillo

The best coffee shop in the Upper West Side and one of the top 3 coffee shops in New York. The consistency of their espresso, the quality of their own roasted beans. I had the opportunity to try coffees around the world, cities like London, Mexico City, Toronto, Vancouver and this coffee shop it’s one of his kind, it’s a gem. I highly recommend to try the espresso, the pour over and also the savory and sweets. You can find sourdough pancakes 🥞 some weekends.

C
Chris KB

No wifi, but let's be honest, it's probably better for everybody's productivity who doesn't need to be online. Great coffee, a good amount of seating, but it's a really popular place so it's still gonna be hard to find at popular times. Back area has the best ambiance, also small outdoor seating on stools at the very back for nice weather days!

This really is a beautiful coffee shop. The owner could have gotten away with investing far less on the decorum and it would have still been ok. Defintely fancy and great place for a coffee/ intro date!

S
Sujin Park

This is my favorite neighborhood cafe; I've been coming here since the day I first moved to UWS and has been a regular ever since. Delicious and beautiful coffee with cool vibe, lots of seating area in the back to get some work done (though there's no WiFi) and offers good food options as well.

C
CCG G

This coffee shop is wonderful! Great coffee, pastries, coffee-alternatives (like matcha and masala chai), and even a solid food menu for brunch or lunch. Service is always friend and the store owner (met him once) seems like a very kind man who supports the community. We tried the BLT sandwich and cacio e pepe grits and both were fantastic. The pour over coffee at $8 (before tip) does seem very overpriced even for nyc standards though…

J
Juan Chavez

Good cafe and staff was very nice. Good amount of seating although it can get busy. Give them a try!

T
Tarenne Johnston

I LOVE this place..such a gem of a local coffee shop on the upper west side. I come here weekly and have enjoyed everything I’ve tried, and the ambiance is on point. Bacon cheddar danish is great, pumpkin spice latte is super tasty, latte superb. I love that they use house made flavors and not gross syrups, and the coffee is good quality. My only gripe, and this might be a personal problem, is with the BLT sandwich. Taste wise, it is so great! But I’ve gotten it twice now, and I am two for two of having the fried egg yolk burst all over me. 😂 Like I said, might be a personal problem, but when I asked if I could have a scrambled egg instead they said no substitutions. I would really appreciate a more “solid state” of an egg option to spare me the embarrassment of this happening a third time, because I love the sandwich. Anyways, just beware of the egg yolk yall. It WILL get you, even if you’re careful. Probably should just cut it in half!!

W
Waan Chomchuen

Creative and inventive menu. Small portion and a bit on the pricey side (as to be expected in NYC). We had a cabonara toast, which is tasty and a tad salty, and a beet bowl, which is interesting and tasty as well.

E
Emi T

Very cute neighborhood coffee place. Wish their pastries tasted better and a dollar cheaper is I don't have to run around the corner to another place to get a better and cheaper pastry. But definitely the best coffee and sitting area in the neighborhood. Would definitely go back.

B
Benjy Braude

Thought this was a great shop hidden away that had a surprising amount of space and seating. Had a lovely cortado and would happily come back!

E
Eric Cortes

Incredible customer service. The guy clearly knows his coffee. For some thing as basic as a cortado, he took the time to explain the the origin of the beans that were in it. The coffee itself was delicious, a work of art. I love the ambience. Quiet enough to get work done while still having conversation if you want to.

D
Daria Mareeva (Dasha)

I rarely leave reviews but this is my new favourite breakfast place. Coffee is insane, food is so delicious, pastries are next level, service is so welcoming and nice. Please try Vatrushka pastry, I am from a post soviet country and this Vatrushka is the best I’ve ever had, I’ve even shed a tear… 😆 THANK YOU to the owners, managers, staff and cooks

Wonderful shop in the UWS, ample outdoor and indoor seating. Nicely dosed espresso to go along with a delightful offering of bites. If I lived in the neighborhood I'd be here every day.

J
June Wu

My favorite local coffee spot in UWS - great coffee, pastry, and breakfast sandwiches. Love the cardamom bun (not to sweet, density is perfect) and banana bread. The back has great seating and I love the small outdoor bar area - perfect to enjoy a coffee and pastry!

S

Great coffee (albeit slightly expensive)! I got an Ethiopian pour over and it was such a treat. Vibes in the cafe were lovely to just chill at as well, though note that there are no seats and it's a relatively small outfit. Nevertheless highly recommended and would definitely come by again if I'm in the area.

Delicious bubble tea, the service is fast and friendly. They have lots of flavor options and yummy toppings. No seating area available so best for take out. Definitely stop in!

N

The prices of these are amazing!! I got a large Classic Milk Tea and it came out to six on the dot! ($6) my boyfriend got the large caramel milk tea and it was $7 on the dot. I will definitely come back to this place i want to try all the different flavors!!!

Really good bubble tea! Lots of options to choose from and you can choose your sugar level and ice level. Passionfruit green tea with boba is very yummy. Because of covid only 2 customers are allowed in at a time but service is pretty quick. Great to grab before a walk in the park.

I loved my jasmine milk tea with cheese foam. Really good consistency, flavor balance, and they ACTUALLY gave me light ice :)) The boba was quite nice as well.

An awesome experience the people that work here are amazing and nice. Richard and Jeffrey have such a nice attitude and customer service. Cody the new trainnie is doing his best and is doing just fine. 😊 Also I ordered the tapioca milk tea with redbeans normal suger less ice. Give it a try!

Z
Zarah Cejoco

Awesome, hidden tea place with good boba and other toppings. Like most boba places, you can adjust sweetness level, how much ice, and you can mix toppings. It was super quick as I was the only customer in there at the time. Would get another cup here if I'm in the area again. This time I got the passion fruit green tea, 50% sweet, no ice, with boba and aloe vera. So freakin good. Go get a cup if you're near!

If nostalgia is your vibe then this is your place! Not only do they have great cold brew but also house-made syrups. Very cozy, comfy swivel chairs in corner if you can snag, perfect for reading. Clean bathroom! Loved that they were playing 90s/2000 music- brought back soo many memories.

N
Natalia Bilash

Great little cafe on the Upper West Dide offering warm breakfast and lunch options along with a selection of sweet and savory pastries. Many options for coffee based drinks, teas and matchas. Quiet vibe with soft music playing. A handful of tables, including chairs outside.

The Upper West Side might have the best coffee shop. The coffee is truly delicious, and the portions are perfectly in line with authentic Italian standards. Hidden gem , need sign .

K
Katelyn R

The best coffee shop in at least a twenty block radius. Highly recommend. There’s often a wait, but for good reason. We love their coffee selection and quality. The baked goods are delicious and staff are friendly. Happy to have this neighborhood staple!

M
Momo Hu

Their syrniki (Russian pancake) and vatrushka were great; made onsite with house-made jam. I’ve gotten their iced americano and hot cocoa, both were great. They roast their own coffee beans. The cold brew is too acidic for me, and the oat milk they use curdles in it as a consequence. Maybe switch to a barista-blend oat milk that fares better in acidic liquids. The el rio pour over wasn’t memorable either. I am moving out of the UWS soon but will be back to try more espresso drinks. The outdoor seating is usually packed and the inside ceiling is low, but it’s more spacious compared to an average coffeehouse.

J
Jeremy Velez

the enby was staring at me with malicious intent, that's how I knew this boba was boutta hit

V

Coco's is still opened for takeout and delivery during the pandemic. The workers are quick to prepare delicious drinks and ingredients are still fresh. However, if you go towards the end of the day, they may not have the ingredients to make your favorite drink for the rest of the day. As of now, they only allow 2 people in the store at the same time, so please respect their rules and read their signs. I'm glad to see that one of my favorite boba places is still opened and fulfilling my cravings for bubble tea! As for the drink I ordered, I got a Bubble Milk Tea with regular ice and regular sugar. However, I did not get bubbles as a topping because they ran out; I ordered at 7pm and they were closing at 8pm and it's understandable that they wouldn't make new bubbles. I replaced the bubbles with Grass Jelly, and that was just as delicious. Please support Coco!

Luke Tannenbaum

Solid State serves great coffee and has a variety of brews to try. Matcha is decent too. However, the place is very pricey even for the upper west and the food can be very hit or miss. For example, their pastries are great, but several are not made in house and the quality is much worse. Tried the egg sandwich today and overall was disappointed - this was not a $14 sandwich and the labneh overpowered any other flavor in the meal. This coffeeshop does not have wifi either which I can understand from a culture perspective but seems off given half the clientele are always working on laptops. Good spot in the neighborhood for sure, but you have to figure out whats actually worth spending your money on here given the expense.

Nice and cozy coffee shop. Over crowded sometimes. Friendly staff however with too many people there they also are overburdened

A

Sirniki were really good but cappuccino was not unfortunately, the foam was barely there

G

Had the almond/orange blossom latte, solid state sando and the avocado toast. Everything tasted amazing. Loved this little spot. There was a bit of a line outside around 9 am, it took about 40 minutes from arrival to getting my order. My only complaint is that I paid for an added soft boiled egg to the avocado toast but they forgot to add that.

J

Nice little local coffee spot. The drinks were hot and the snacks were tasty. I love stumbling on new little places like this. The staff are friendly and will make sure you get what you want while you are there.

Was looking for Boba Tea/Slushy in Manhattan after 9pm on a Saturday and we found this as: 1. Open till 10pm 2. Decent people reviewed Parking was a breeze. It cost around $15 for a large Boba Tea and Slushy, which is a little expensive. Plus side was the service was super fast as we got our drinks quickly. The Slushy was decent but the Boba tea was a killer. I finished halfway before my ride home. Highly recommend getting that. We wanted to get a second Boba but apparently they had run out - which is a good sign. If you are looking for an amazing Boba tea after you visit the Museums nearby, then this is the place to go. 85/100

Angeeluz Cortorreal

Love this place and so do my kids. The only problem is that they run out of milk alternatives quite fast (lots of people seem to love oatmilk) so it is hard to get the teas I like since I can't drink cow milk. Butttt their iced passion fruit tea (regular tea no milk) is delicious. My kid loves the milk tea with boba 😋 she is obsessed with boba tea and we hit up a tea house every month to find the best one. She put this store in her top 3 list 😅

Currently offering these cute holo bags at a discount with purchase. Super cute. Mango Yakult with lychee jelly was just ok.

N

Bubble tea was delicious! Initially I ordered the lava pearl however they didn’t have, so I went with the Taro Milk and it was fantastic. Highly recommend.

e
ecmie luki

We got the smashed taro QQ milk and Hojicha tea with milk cap. I’ve always loved coco as a kid when I went back to China and my impression of it has always been good quality boba. Nothing spectacular, but good. I usually just get their milk teas (which are great!), but decided to branch out and try some others in the us nyc location. They were good but definitely a bit underwhelming. The taro drink just has a bit too much milk and it kind of felt like drinking milk with hints of taro. The hojicha could’ve benefited from a bit stronger flavor as well.

T
Tessa Tyo

Baristas are super friendly and the shop is super cute! Not a ton of seating and super busy. Onion focaccia is yummy, super onion-y, but also very greasy. The salted caramel speciality latte was just…fine. Tasted like a generically sweet coffee. No strong flavor to it.

M
Maxine

Let’s start with the positives: the staff was super friendly, which I really appreciated, and the space is massive! In NYC, it’s rare to find a coffee shop this big, so that was a nice surprise. That said, the wait to order during peak hours is long—but I’d read the reviews and expected it, so I wasn’t too bothered. Pro tip: the line started dying down around 1:30 PM if you’re looking to avoid the rush. Now for the real downside: $8.16 for a mocha with oat milk is too much. The extra charges for alt milks, syrups and ice is absolutely criminal (this a hyperbole). As someone who’s lactose intolerant, it’s extremely frustrating to have to pay a milk tax- minus one star for that. Also, there was no WiFi, which is disappointing when their prices are already above average, but im not going to lie, given their long line, it unfortunately makes sense.

H
H M

I’m so sad, this used to be my favorite coffee shop in town but I’ve been twice now in the last few weeks and both times, my coffee was just average. I remember in the past I would get this immensely satisfying, perfect taste in my mouth when sipping on their latte (perfect ratio, and overall super aromatic and delicious), but not anymore. It’s become just like any other coffee shop I’m afraid. I’ll try a few more times, maybe some baristas are better than others. Tried their croissant also recently and it’s just meh.

M
May N.

Small shop with great staff. Tried out a new drink and while it was aesthetically pleasing, it didn’t really taste too great. My friend got a mango green tea and it tasted very watered down which was disappointing.

R
Ron Sitner

Went several times. The flavor of the drinks is just not good. “Hot” drinks are cold. Probably every other boba place I went to was better. I don’t think you should avoid this place just to know what to expect for.

S
Selen

There was plenty of boba but it was tasteless, we asked for more sugar but it was not added enough, we could only taste milk, not tea.

s
ssan ssan

Unfortunately nothing was good. The food is extremely overpriced and not tasty at all. I got the scrambled state sando and I'm not sure why it's priced at $14 (tax excluded), it was absolutely terrible. The latte I got was fine, nothing over the top. The big issue is that the person who took my order charged my credit card a larger tip than I had entered on the screen and that isn't ok, you can't increase the amount of a tip that a customer enters, that's very unethical. The tip I originally added was already generous given the below average service and food. The place also had no wifi when I visited and the staff were just very uptight and rude. That was a first & last visit from me.

S
Sandra

The guy at this location closes the doors at 9:40 but it says online this location closes at 10. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this maybe write that you guys close when you feel like it so as a customer we would know to take business elsewhere
