Opiniones de Jay Bharat Newark
We lost a loved one today and this was the perfect place. Their thali was super homey and comforting for us. We ordered kathiyawadi and mini thali. Both were good with seasonal vegetables.
Absolutely love this place for authentic Gujarati meals. They taste like they were made at home with love and affection. All the dishes are great, but if you want to sample everything, try the Gujarati thali or the Punjabi thali. The thalis are around $13 to $15. I also really like the Puri Shrikhand and Undhiyu Shrikhand. Great place to bring young ones and casual dining. They also have freshly prepared sweets and nastas.
A place that serves authentic gujarati food. The thalis are to die for, serving home made food. Shrikhand is amazing, shrikhand puri is a great treat. Chaat varieties are great, mostly Bombay style. They also serve delicious gujarati undhiyu (it's not Surti style lilu undhitu, but more of central gujarati style, delicious regardless). The dosas are Bombay style and crispy with cilantro, a nostalgic treat. Masala khichadi and khadi are a great treat as well. A great experience in total.
This is a good place to enjoy authentic Gujrathi cuisine. The Undhiu and Dabeli were delicious and satisfying, with rich flavors and fresh ingredients. The service was courteous and attentive, and the ambiance was cozy and inviting. The only thing that could be improved was the Shrikhand Puri, which was a bit bland for our taste. However, we still had a great time and would recommend this place to anyone who wants to try something different and tasty.
A nice indian-gujarati restaurant in Newark, CA. This place have few authentic gujarati dishes which is hard to find elsewhere, like Tuwar Kachori, Pattis etc. and there taste is also good. I love Tuwar kachori as a snack. Staff is also friendly and they have ample of sitting space. They have some sweets options as well. I would have loved if they offer fresh hot crispy jalebi.
The good thing for me - has plenty of vegan options and it’s marked in the menu. They even made us vegan tahli. However: food wasn’t hot, just room temperature (I like nice warm food), water cups are plastic, extra spoon was also plastic and no drinks with plant milk. I would say it’s an OK place, but nothing memorable that I would tell you - oh you should go! But if you go, try Masala Dosa, it’s not on the picture because it was best thing we ordered. Samosas were a little too spicy for my european gut, having weird feeling on my stomach and very dry lips now.
Been here twice.Vegetarian Gujarati food.Food is definitely good. Many dishes have sweetish tinge. Neat ambience. Pay first and eat concept. Limited quantities. Only issue is pricing and hospitality. All dishes are fairly overpriced compared to other Bay Area restaurants. They even charge $1.5 for extra sambar. Price would be the only reason I would think twice to go here.
A proper veg restaurant for Satvik vegetarian food. I ordered Roti Shaka instead of Rotli and was wondering why Bajra rotis are tasting like Chapati! After enquiry I got to know! Glad I did this mistake because the Bajra rotis from Kathiawadi thali were too thick to chew. Chapathis are very small! Curry was same across all the menu. Dal was just dal with chilli powder (there was nothing else like Cilantro or tadka). They don't give two types of veg curry as stated in the menu. It's just one simple curry and Dal. Dhoklas were worth the money spent.
This place is good for thali. They specialize in gujrati and punjabi cusine, so all thali’s are are also around the same cusines. Variety of dishes is okay and food overall is good. Only thing I don’t like is overpriced dishes, especially thalis. They charge you 13-14$ for thali, which is not unlimited, so all tip plus taxes makes it close to 19$. Menu also doesn’t change much for thali. I did like rasmalai here. Place is crowded in the evenings and peak dinner time, but you generally get a table. Parking is ample nearby. There is indian grocery store to its side, so you can buy and eat indian in one trip :)
Jay Bharat used to be a great place to have decent Gujarathi food. We have been to this place many times before the pandemic and loved their food. Alas, the good experience stays in my mind as just distant memories. During a recent visit (our first time post pandemic), we were shocked by the changes to food quality, food quantity (small portion sizes) and the increased prices. The thali portions and items have drastically changed for the worse. Food items tasted bland mostly. Utensils are mostly the kind that we use and throw. This creates a very bad experience particularly for the Thali. Fried items such as the Pettis were over fried. (See pics). Green chutney used were the precanned chutney bought from Indian stores and not freshly made. This had artificial colors as can be seen in the attached pics for dahi puris. Bajra rotis were just ok. Hope the restaurant owners improve the experience and food by fixing these issues.
This place used to be good. Now they are taking advantage of young ladies, a co worker order 60 samosas and 5 lbs of laddos. $150. She picked up order brought to work, they gave her cocktail samosas. When I called a rude, manger maybe owner said u ordered wrong ones, I said ok, why did you charge her for bog ones then. He got mad and said well just come get your money back and bring my stuff, then while I was asking if we can just get some more of the small ones he hung up on me, so we went to restaurant. While I was asking why were you disrespect on phone he said I don't care about your people..justFYI, becareful if u buy food from here, im pretty sure it was a small mouse that ran by on the back room door area. Oh all the 4/5 reviews gotta be friends and family, no chance this place could get those. I used to run a restaurant.
Visited this place to experience Gujarati food but it is not worth the hype! We tried dabeli that was okay 6/10. The covering of puranpoli was thick and chewy… something that I did not expected. Chole curry was tasting uncooked and lacking spices. It felt like boiled chole are mixed with tomato purée and served as is. We also tried undhiyu….this was worst and nowhere close to undhiyu! No Surti papdi (which is a must have), no methi muthia. It shouldn’t be called undhiyu in the first place!
I just got togo from this place .. way too pricey for the quantity and quality.. quantity is very very low as if it is left over. tastes average. not tasty at all..not sure why they got high ratings. attached the pic of their to go order of samosa chat and pani puri.. shocked with quantity and taste
