10/10 recommend! This restaurant has been on my Date List for a while. So glad that it reopened and I can't tell you how happy I am with everything!! From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we said goodbye to our new friends on the wait staff team I knew it was gonna be good when the steak special said it only comes medium rare. I respect the chef for that! And it was perfect! The chicken special was so full of flavor, it almost blew my boyfriend's lips off hahaha Wicked tender too! Even the sexy drinks that the bartender was turning out were the best I've had. Smooth, balanced, and dangerously easy to drink! Kudos This is absolutely my new favorite spot and we can't wait go back. If you have time, check it out before the holiday decor changes. Sooo twinkly! Bonus points for boujie place settings, napkin rings and metal cocktail stirrers!!

My husband and I were taken to dinner by our financial advisor and we must say he impressed us with this restaurant. The Unshackled red wine and the Smokey Old Fashion were an impressive introduction to what awaited us. The plates of Fig Bruschetta and Egg Plant Rollatini were nice portions and extremely flavorful. I decided to take a chance and order the Grilled Octopus. It did not disappoint ! It had a wonderful spice marinade and the potatoes tasted dry rubbed. So impressive. We had their special Sugo dessert, at Curtis’ recommendation and decided we found our new favorite place. Did I mention the service was spectacular ? Curtis was our server and he was professional, attentive, knowledgeable, pleasant and on point with food recommendations. Returning soon.

My husband has been eyeing this restaurant and he made the reservation for our date last night. We came to celebrate my husband’s birthday (& parents night out 😉). First of all the cocktails were perfect! I had the blood orange cosmo, he had the Dragon’s Eye. We shared arancini for an appetizer- delicious! There were so many options for dinner that sounded amazing but I went with the Pappardelle Di Mare (homemade pasta) - I ate every bite! My husband had the Veal Milanese. He also really enjoyed it. We had a peak at the pizza from those sitting near us and even the that looked really good. Service was great and the atmosphere was warm and beautiful. I can’t wait to come back here soon!

Rick and his staff are great. This is the closest boutique hospitality and restaurant experience we have in this area outside of NYC/Westchester. Portions are right and flavor is always robust

WOW… this place not only sets the tone for a fine dining experience with its esthetic, the service is absolutely top tier. Very accommodating and understanding with changes to our reservation. THE DRINKS… were definitely the highlight, exquisitely crafted martinis, whoever put the drink menu together knows what they’re doing!! Will absolutely return and highly recommend.

This place completely blew me away! The moment I walked in, I felt like I’d discovered a hidden treasure—beautiful ambiance, warm energy, and a true love for food in every detail. The Summer Thyme Bees Knees and the Manhattan Nero were a refreshing start. The fried meatballs tasted just like something a nonna would make—tender and full of flavor. The fettuccine limone was bright and creamy, and the Sunday gravy? A hug in a bowl. Everything tasted homemade and prepared with so much heart. This place isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience.

This place is exactly what I was looking for. Went there for a solo dinner. Food was super tasty. Pasta was cooked perfect and the short rib, meatball and sausage in my dish were flavorful and tender. Jim was tending bar. He was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Drinks were good as well! Highly recommend.

A very interesting place with a great atmosphere. The food was delicious, the drinks were just right, and the service was attentive and friendly. Prices are reasonable for the quality, making it a spot worth coming back to.

My friend brought me here for a post birthday dinner tonight. Her brother in law had his wedding here, and they had such great things to say about it…and they weren’t lying! The atmosphere and decor is beautiful, warm, clean, and welcoming. The tables are spaced apart comfortably and the waitstaff and owner were very nice and attentive . The menu was unreal. It was so hard to choose a dish! Luckily, our waiter was very helpful in helping us decide. Everything tasted absolutely delicious . The drinks were so good too. I normally stick with wine, but I tried their cocktails, and I very pleased. They really care about their mixtures and the taste of their drinks. It isn’t just your ordinary mixed drink. The cocktails are a must have! Here are some pictures of our grilled octopus app and fig bruschetta app, along with our two mains. I got the Cavatelli Pugliese and my friend got the Linguine Carbonara. SO delicious! We will definitely be coming back! Thank you!

I was taken here on Valentine’s Day and enjoyed it so much I went back two weeks later! Everything was perfect. Our reservations were ready on time and our servers were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is great, lights aren’t too dim and the music isn’t too loud. The FOOD… everything I’ve had has been delicious. I’ve tried 4 apps and have been able to try 9 entrees from trying my friend’s plates lol. The food comes out hot and with so much flavor. Cocktails are also great, great balance as I find other place’s cocktails to be too sweet at times. They also offer many options for mocktails which I always love to see. 100/10 each time and can’t wait to go back!

Was lucky to come in on happy hour at the bar... started with a special peach cocktail, that was delightful but if peach is not your favorite there were many other fruit options and specialty coctails too. In addition, there were lots of appetizer specials at that time. Ended up eating so many appetizers that I could not eat my dinner and one appetizer was better than the next. The bar was totally full, and there was lots of great conversation. Atmosphere was delightful and I cannot wait to return.

Curtis!!! He went above and beyond to provide stellar service. I came in asking for a table on a busy Friday night and he wouldn’t let me leave without guaranteeing me and my friend a great table! Incredible and dedicated hospitality. Thanks Curtis! PS food is always outstanding!

Sugo offers a consistently fantastic Italian dining experience. The staff is exceptional - friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. On my latest visit, I tried the perfectly cooked Fried Artichokes with the Lemon aioli, which was divine! Their cocktail menu is extensive, and I enjoyed the refreshing Sicilian Lover, will definitely be having it again. Sugo isn't just a great meal, it's an unforgettable experience. We'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend you try it too!

My friend and I brunched here the other day and WOW. We were beyond impressed! I recommend getting a giant martini and sharing. Not only is it really cool, but it’s tasty! We split the breakfast pizza, short ribs, cannoli pancakes, and chicken and waffles because we just couldn’t decide what all to try, and we got to have leftovers for later then! I loved the crust on the breakfast pizza, it was really tasty. The cannoli pancake taco concept was super fun and cute to see too. We sat out for several hours on the patio out in the sun, and it was just a perfect way to spend a Sunday.

My fiancé and I had a delicious brunch at Sugo! This was our first time dining here and we absolutely loved the style of the restaurant. It was so beautiful, and I’d like to come back and dine on the patio too! Their breakfast pizza is one of the best we’ve tried, and all of our brunch dishes were delicious. We thought they had a great deal for bottomless brunch drinks! I really want to come back for lunch and dinner to try some of their Italian dishes. A new favorite in Newtown for sure!

We had such a great time, this was a great dinner. I went with my parents while my guy was out of town. The staff could not have been nicer and the ambiance inside was perfect. Both of my parents got the lamb chops and they were as tasty as they were photo worthy. I can’t wait to visit again and explore more of the menu. This would make a great date night. The cocktails are creative and tasty! I definitely recommend that you visit this gem of Sandy Hook Newtown!

Sundays at Sugo are the best. You could enjoy a delectable prix fixe menu, available for just $32.95. This three-course offering includes an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, with plenty of options to choose from. His Picks: Petite Tuna Tartare Chicken Scarpariello New York Cheesecake Her Picks: Potato Gnocchi Linguine Vongole Chocolate Lava Cake And even have the option to complete the meal with their signature Sangria or one of their handcrafted cocktails on the menu, all priced at just $12. Beautiful interior and great service!

We check out Sugo Gastrobar on a Friday night. We order the gnocchi bolognese, pizza, lamb chops and cocktails. The food and cocktails were delicious. Great wine selection! They have this amazing bar, the whole restaurant is beautifully decorated and clean. The services was outstanding, friendly staff! Great places to dine in.

We visited Sugo today for lunch. Definitely a great find! The food was amazing. We shared the lunch size Nella salad, which was unique and good size. I had the octopus, which was one of the best I’ve ever had. Tender & the presentation was amazing. My husband had the gnocchi and said he’d absolutely have it again! The service was friendly and helpful but a bit slow for lunch. We enthusiastically recommend Sugo Gastrobar.

From the moment we walked into Sugo Gastrobar in Sandy Hook, we knew we were in for something special—but what truly elevated the night was the warmth, passion, and exceptional service delivered by Rick, the owner, and Dane, our server. Rick is more than just a restauranteur—he’s a host in the truest sense of the word. His ability to make you feel welcome, understood, and genuinely taken care of is unmatched. His wine knowledge is equally impressive; each recommendation was not only on point but elevated the dishes in a way that showcased his deep understanding of pairing and palate. It’s rare to find someone who can speak to you like an old friend while guiding you through a high-end culinary experience with such finesse. And then there’s Dane—what a gem. His attentiveness, intuition, and professionalism were second to none. He anticipated our needs before we had to ask, made thoughtful suggestions, and carried a calm confidence that made the entire evening flow seamlessly. He’s the kind of server that turns a great meal into a memorable night. Sugo isn’t just about food and drink—it’s about the people who make it feel like a home away from home. Rick and Dane are a big part of that magic, and we can’t wait to come back.

The restaurant is beautiful. Perfect for a girls night out. I ordered the Sugo salad with shrimp and a coconut mojito and it was amazing. I highly recommend trying this place if you haven’t already!

We come here often, as it's one of our fave spots! But came for brunch for the first time and it of course met the amazing standards as always. Food was delish and Curtis was an exceptional waiter! Attentive, great personality, & even brought out a little birthday surprise out for my niece..thanks Curtis for being so kind :-)

From the moment you walk in, this modern Italian restaurant makes it clear that it’s something special. It’s the perfect blend of contemporary style and authentic Italian soul — the kind of place you’d expect to find in the heart of New York City, yet it’s right here and somehow even better. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and genuinely upscale without ever feeling pretentious. The staff greets you with the kind of friendliness that feels natural, not forced, and the level of service throughout the meal is exceptional — attentive, knowledgeable, and sincerely welcoming. The food is where this place truly shines. Every dish is a fresh, modern take on classic Italian favorites, prepared with care and plated beautifully. Portions are generous without being overwhelming, and the prices are more than fair for the quality you receive. It’s the rare restaurant where you feel like you’re getting value, experience, and artistry all at once. Whether it’s a casual night out, a celebration, or just the craving for a remarkable meal, this restaurant stands above the rest. Honestly, even if it were surrounded by the endless options of New York City, this would be my first choice — every single time.

We found this restaurant online. We came here the first time about two weeks ago. We loved it from the start. The food is amazing. The service is also equally amazing. Tonight though our waiters name was Connor. My wife and I have been married for 25 years and have been to many restaurants. Without a doubt he is the best waiter we have encountered so far. there’s just something about the way he makes you feel. Also, the way he describes the menu and the food. I will say that this restaurant is very lucky to have someone of his caliber and skill as a waiter. We will continue to come back and we will absolutely recommend this restaurant going forward. But most definitely will be recommending Connor as the person they should be asking for.

As someone with celiac disease, finding a true Italian restaurant that offers safe and delicious gluten-free options feels almost impossible but this place absolutely nailed it! The gluten-free pasta and pizza were to die for!!! perfectly cooked, flavorful, and you’d never even know they were gluten free. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable about cross-contamination and took extra care to make sure my meal was completely safe!! My server made me feel completely at ease. From the warm service to the authentic flavors, everything was outstanding. Highly recommend to anyone who’s gluten-free or just loves amazing Italian food this is hands down my new favorite spot! 🍝🍷🇮🇹

What can I say? I’ve never had a bad meal at this restaurant for all the times I’ve been here. It’s always been delicious, freshly prepared and fancy looking. Our waiter Connor recently was great! Very attentive and polite. The drinks are mixed to perfection even though the pour to my Manhattan was a little light I’ll let it slide. Dessert was just as good. I would highly recommend.

This is a great place. The food is good, but the drinks are amazing. There is a bartender Niko who makes amazing drinks is personable and very professional every single time. Because of this kind of service, we keep on coming back. Keep up the great work.

The food, drinks and staff were excellent. Will return. Was given a surprise at the end of our meal. They presented me with a $50 gift certificate. Try the Stuffed Pork Chop and have the Sicilian Lover Cocktail. You will not be disappointed.

Absolutely delicious food served by a very personable and attentive server named Curtis (I believe that was his name.) We had all three courses and each one was awesome! Apps: - Octopus for my husband (he loved it) - Prosciutto infused arancini for me - A+ Mains: - Lobster ravioli for him (big portion and delicious he said) - Beef short ribs in a mushroom sauce (falling apart tender and so flavorful) over Homemade pappardelle pasta Dessert - Almond Cake for him (moist with almond cream layer, awesome) - Pistachio cheesecake for me which was so good Only slight downside was that it got loud in the main dining room due to a couple of parties of six. The ambiance is very warm and cozy with a stunning bar. We can’t wait to go back.

From the moment we walked in, the experience at Sugo Gastobar was nothing short of exceptional. From the warm welcome at the host stand to the attentive and knowledgeable service at the table, every detail was thoughtfully executed. The food coming out of the kitchen was simply outstanding—crafted with care, beautifully presented, and full of flavor that exceeded all expectations. It’s rare to find a place where every element of the dining experience aligns so seamlessly, and Sugo truly delivers on all fronts. Five stars without hesitation. Congratulations to Mr. Rosario for creating such an outstanding establishment and for leading a team that clearly takes pride in what they do. This gem is a testament to his vision and the passion of the entire staff.

I recently had the chance to dine at Sugo Gastrobar in Newtown, and it honestly exceeded expectations across the board. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels welcoming and polished without being stuffy. What really stood out to me, though, was the management and bar staff. The manager clearly cares about both the customers and the team — you can see it in how smoothly everything runs and how attentive the service is. The bartenders are top-notch: friendly, fast, and they actually know their craft. Drinks were balanced, well-presented, and they made great recommendations based on what we liked. The food absolutely holds its own too. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully. The manager easily was able to sit us from the bar to a table upon request even though the establishment was busy! I’m a locally foodie! And this place is awesome with a great happy hour!

Joined a friend here for lunch and we both really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is perfect! Our visit was during Christmas season and it had such a festive, warm, comfortable vibe with a good touch of elegance. The fried artichoke appetizer was perfect! I had Salmon Piccata, which was very good. I did get to sample my friends Eggplant Parmesan, which had good flavor, but I found to be bready. I prefer more eggplant, less breading. I would most definitely go back to try the many other things on the menu.

We went for the lunch deal which was 18 dollars for soup or salad, one entree, and a dessert. I got the arugula and pear said which I really enjoyed the dressing was fresh. My partner got the Cesar salad which is a classic that you can’t go wrong on. I got the pesto gnocchi which I would get multiple bowls of it was soo yummy! My partner got the chicken parm which was also good but I would have liked a more seasoned red sauce. We both got ice cream for dessert. The lemon one was very good if you like lemon, a little sour but I enjoy that in a lemon ice cream. Overall I would get again and for the price you can not beat it! Left me full and satisfied!

This place is a true neighborhood gem. The lunch specials are out of this world—creative, fresh, and such an incredible value that I find myself coming back again and again. The inside is just as impressive as the food; the décor is beautiful, cozy, and thoughtfully done, making it a lovely spot to actually relax and enjoy your meal. And a special shout-out to Niko, my favorite waiter—friendly, attentive, and always makes the experience feel personal. Great food, great atmosphere, and even better service. Highly recommend!

Came here on three different occasions, once for brunch, once for happy hour, and once for lunch I just love me a deal, and that’s what I love about this place. Quality food affordable prices.

Nice atmosphere and great menu. Went for lunch and we tried the Chicken Scarpariello and Prosciutto with arugula pizza. A basket of bread with dipping sauce came from our server but the bread seemed stale and day old. All three of us thought that, and not a good way to start our lunch out. Caesar and Sugo salad were our next courses. Nicely seasoned, great portion and very tasty. The Chicken Scapariello was nicely prepared but could have had more “heat” from the peppers. The pizza was disappointing but looked great. Too much balsamic reduction over the final product. The crust was hard and not very tasty. We tried the blood orange sorbet, pistachio gelato and Sugo cake. These were a big hit. Prices are very reasonable, great wait staff and would try again to see if this was possibly an off day for the bread and pizza.

Came here last night for my mother's birthday even though it's a bit of a drive for us and we will absolutely be back: 1. Connor, our server, was amazing and very attentive. One of the best servers we've ever had. Was very welcoming and always checking to see if we needed anything. 2. The restaurant can be a little loud at times and it's not a large restaurant. So if you're looking for quiet intimate place may not be for you, but we didn't mind. We had reservations at 6pm and the place was busy not long after we sat, so make reservations if you can. 3. I highly recommend the Charcuterie. For $30 you get what you're paying for with the amount they put on the board. The octopus appetizer is a bit spicy due to the aioli but we loved it. The entrees were delicious, but slightly fell short in a couple of spots. I got the carbonara and my only issue is that my egg on top was a bit over cooked so no oozy yoke. My mom had the pappardelle di mare and she was a bit disappointed that you couldn't even tell if there was lobster in it. It was almost grated or the tiniest chunks. Would have never known there was lobster in it if it didn't say so on the menu. Again, both dishes were delicious regardless so we didn't complain about it. For dessert we shared the pistachio cheesecake to try something new. It was good, but not anything special. It could have been sliced a bit better as we were missing a bit of the front bottom section. If you like the jello pistachio pudding mix, you'll enjoy the cheesecake. All in all, we will be back and really enjoyed our time here. We hope we get Connor again as well. He was a joy to have.

My daughter and I went for dinner on Saturday for my birthday. We ordered for appetizers the charcuterie board and the grilled octopus - they were both very good. For the main meal my daughter ordered the Carbonara with grilled chicken and I ordered the Pappardelle dish Mare. The menu said my meal had shrimp, scallops and lobster in it. When it came, there were 2 shrimp, 2 scallops, and then I was looking for the lobster. It was as if they took a piece of lobster, grated it and sprinkled it in the dish. I thought I would be getting at least 2 pieces of lobster to go with the shrimp and scallops - very, very disappointing! It was good, but was expecting to be able to see the lobster in my dish. We ordered a dessert to split for my birthday and was disappointed in the dessert also - pistachio cheesecake was not worth the price - it was a sliver for a piece - and I thought maybe the dessert would be at no charge because of my birthday (which the waiter knew about), but it wasn't. Some good points to the restaurant, but some disappointing things also.

This was my first time at Sugo Gastrobar and overall I had a good experience. The wait was a little long, but everyone was very nice and welcoming. The pasta was really good, although it did feel a bit pricey for the portion size. Still, the food was flavorful and worth trying. I’d definitely come back again.

We went for my parents anniversary, wanted to try this place out since it had recently opened. Things started out great, friendly staff, quick seating, and bread at the table. Our issues occurred when main Entrees were brought out. 2 of our party ordered the same special but what they got were 2 variations of the same dish and both were missing a key ingredient....chicken. When let the waitress known and she was right on it. However the kitchen still did not provide an adequate dish on the second try for either person. I will say that our 6 other dishes were fine and quite tasty. Will have to go back and try it again.

First visit on Mother’s Day. Not the best day to try a restaurant for the first time so will go back again but was underwhelmed with this experience. The polenta on the scampi was cold when served and the fish was barely warm. The lamb chops were served very rare when ordered medium. The arancini was very good. The calamari was mostly tentacles and a little greasy. The breakfast pizza was tasty. Chicken and waffles was a mix. Waffle was good but the chicken was under-seasoned and bland. Cane back during happy hour. Bartender was one of the best Ive ever had. She was great. Food and timing not great. Time for two appetizers to be served was very long and neither were very good unfortunately.

I am so saddened to write this review. As a former customer of Figs restaurant which was in this space before, I was so excited to try this gastro pub. We called ahead to place a take out order on a Sunday and were told that this restaurant had rave reviews. It was a huge disappointment. I ordered salmon with ginger sauce (no ginger sauce though) and asked for it well done. It came out rare. I also asked for mashed potato as a side, but the mashed potatoes tasted previously frozen. So I got a rare cut of salmon dripping in some soupy looking white alfredo sauce with poor quality mashed potatoes. My spouse ordered chicken parm it came with 13 zitis and some ragu tomato sauce that tasted like it came from a can. The chicken tasted thawed out. Everything was subpar at best. We eat at high quality restaurants in Darien, New Canaan, Westport… all across Fairfield County and Litchfield County. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I am sad to say we are so disappointed with the quality. I would drive to a different location if you want good chicken or fish meals. Also, what salmon comes with no side? Do people just eat a plain piece of rare fish dripping in the wrong sauce? We also ordered this at lunch time (noon) but were charged dinner pricing. Unsure why.

Today was the 2nd time I visited this restaurant. The waiter was expeditious and attentive. The food was not good. I had the 1/2 salad 1/2 prime rib panini, which was overcooked and dry. It needed au jus or gravy on the side. This is the second time (the first time had 3 course lunch) which was very average. For the price I expected much better food. I won’t return.

C
Charlie H. (hoddsta10)

Food was fairly decent, however service was not good at all. The manager and the owner are not accommodating at all to their clientele. Some of the food was fairly good, however will not return based on the fact that the owner would not let us use our gift card, which was NOT expired. Feels like theyre running a total scam with the whole gift card thing.
