Opiniones de Haste Muerte Oakland
I absolutely, freaking love this place! They are so welcoming and good folks. If I lived closer and actually drink coffee, I’d been there every day. Keep up the good work Hasta Muerte Coffee!!
Lovely cold brew and tea here! Conchitas are delicious as well. I always feel inspired to read, make art and talk about big ideas in this space.
Favorite coffee shop in Oakland!! They have vegan conchas, mazapan latte!! So good!!
Amazing staff that is always happy to see you serving excellent coffee and hand helds. They even have vegan donuts and conchitos! Safe for everyone to enjoy their morning. What do you think it means when a place hasonly 1 star and 5 star reviews. Perhaps the trolls are hungry.
I love this place! Great people and delicious and unique coffee drinks! I always get the mazapan latte.
Great space, love this coffee shop and I can't wait to ever go there again when I'm near by. I love their views on a collective work space, and taking care of their community. My only complaint is that their website (on mobile) is nice but the section for their hours of operation isn't clear and could be reformatted.
Great coffee, great food, super friendly staff. I'm visit 3x week. It's a community-focused radical space run by a Latino collective and does not tolerate homophobia, transphobia, sexism, or racism. It's getting a lot of negative political reviews and its packed every day thanks to Fox news attacking it on March 2018.
All of the negative reviews on this page are a result of the owners standing their ground on social issues. This cafe is a cute, chill, local spot with character and delicious empanadas. Racists can stay mad but this location is a hub of the community.
It's sad that many of these reviews are false solely for political purposes. Why can't we just respect differences in opinions? Anyways this cafe is great and brings a lot of life. I loved the ambiance and the coffee is reasonably priced. If this shop was put into my hometown in NY, it would be no doubt ridiculously expensive. Thank you!
This business guys, is totally amazing. Truely values it's customers and their environment. To keep these street pirates away. Has truly started something great for the U.S. to actually see someone else not needing to bow down to cops. 'Love your neighbor'
This is such a great addition to the neighborhood. The coffee is good, the atmosphere is comfortable and there is a play space for children. They also have empanadas which I didn't try, but smelled great.
When I was in Oakland over the past week, I dropped in. Very relaxing atmosphere, professional and friendly staff, great food (their pastries are low-key an addiction for me) and well made coffee with books to enjoy at the same time. I've been there several times before this recent trip and can attest to the fact that their high quality service is consistent. Recommended and well loved
Super welcoming, community-centered vibe with incredible coffee and relaxing ambience. Baristas are friendly and helpful. Good place to work or catch up with friends. Check out their books and stickers too!
Delicious drinks, yummy food, reasonable prices, + good vibes ! Root thyself Ice Latte(chicory, elderflower) is delish, perfectly sweetened and balanced The avo toast is generous + has a great vinegar+oliveoil edge to it
You may notice that one star reviews are predominantly placed by out-of-towners. You can tell in their review history. These are people with a Fox News style anti-leftist ideology who are upset about Hasta Muerte choosing to not welcome officers in uniform at their shop. They've never even set foot in the place. Five star reviews are most often left by locals. This is because the place is unpretentious, friendly, hosts community events, sells fair trade coffee, and has great coffee and empanadas. Family friendly, has a kids play area. Worker owned, so workers earn fair pay. We value all these things in Oakland, so we value Hasta Muerte. No one should be deterred and everyone is welcome. Blue uniforms can make a lot of people uncomfortable these days... its fairly common for people to feel less safe around police officers, so Hasta Muerte is responding to that.
In answer to other reviewers, this place is not anti-white. I went here to do some Spanish homework with my girlfriend (also white) and we were treated to good coffee and exceptional service. Instead of complaining, why don’t you try and understand WHY this cafe has the mission that it does and applaud it? We can use all the safe spaces we can get these days. If you don’t know what it’s like to live in fear of law enforcement every day of your life, there’s zero room for you to criticize. You don’t like it? There are a million Starbucks that are willing to call the cops on people of color, for just sitting there, so you’ll feel more comfortable.
Lots of cool atmosphere, friendly, efficient staff, excellent coffee. Lots of regulars. Relatively quiet for relaxing privacy, intimate conversation, writing a thesis, and conducting your business.
Lovely people and quality coffee and everything is just great… But haters who live far away from Oakland will give it one star because they misunderstood the desire of a space without uniformed police officers. Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Each time I come in to this place I'm immediately impressed with the warmth of the folks working behind the counter. They want to help you, but they're not pushy. They want to recommend things for you and they want to be as helpful as possible and yet they also know when you just wanna get a coffee and read a book. I also love their coffee. And their snacks. This place is a gem. Thanks Hasta la Muerte!!!
Kind staff, tasty food and great local vendors. Oaklands heartbeat is felt here for sure.
This cafe is a wonderful haven to the community of Fruitvale, a great space for coffee and a treat, despite negative reviews (not sure if these people live in the neighborhood?), its quiet place to study, there is a kid's space to play, art and books. They offer popups and good prices and maintain a safe space for the neighborhood.
Great coffee house that really cares about the community and caters to your java needs. Moreover, I have to recognize the wait staff for their excellence and thank my friend “Gavin S” who initially told me about this place. Thank you for giving me my daily caffeine.
I love this place. The community and mission is beautiful, the space is welcoming and include a kids play area. I got a tea latte and granola bowl both are great. They have free WiFi and chargers.
I have had nothing but lovely experiences at this place. Their policies and staff are on point and make the space a safe, friendly environment to work/study or just chill out. LOVE their empanadas and music playlists. SO GOOD. <3
great space, good pastries, great staff, great art. the hardline stance against police in uniform is refreshing, since they sort of just march through a lot of other places unopposed to intimidate as a bonus, I only learned about that last part because the fascists kept giving them negative reviews because of the police thing, a thing that's totally a bonus to a whole lot of the Oakland community
stopped by while driving home from my grandma's house and i really loved it. friendly atmosphere and really lovely coffee!!! if i didnt live so far away this would def be my go to coffee house<3 continue being wonderful and thanks for being a safe place !!!
Cozy cafe in the Fruitvale district with friendly and courteous staff. Plenty of seating with a children’s play corner. Love the decor and sense of community in the space. Good place to catch up with a friend or do work. Will be back again!!!
I was visiting a friend in the neighborhood for a week and I was recommended this spot. They have a varied menu of food and drinks, and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in town.
You couldn't ask for a better neighborhood coffee shop! Great food and coffee, cooperatively owned and perfectly connected to the neighborhood culture. The exact opposite of big chain corporate coffee experience. Amazingly curated selection of revolutionary books and artwork, a kids play area, laptop-free zones and now a photo booth too! Great weekend food pop-ups supplement the regular menu so follow them on social media for those announcements.
Good coffee, good people, small business/family owned, on a busy street so limited street parking. Community centric so it’s very power to the people type of vibe with nice locally drawn murals on the walls, shirts for sale and a powerful collection of books in their library. They have limited business hours so you might go when they’re closed for the week. Before the pandemic, there was a space for children to quietly play with toys and read books while others can study and do their work
Hasta Muerte quickly became my favorite coffee shop in the East Bay! I live near Emeryville but come all the way here whenever I can because it’s worth it. It’s an *actual* gathering spot with a cozy vibe, vs the generic “airy” looking (and feeling) spots all over the place with intentionally limited or no seating. The coffee and pastries are AMAZING (I had a coyota and a mazapán latte), and the staff is super friendly and generally seem like they’re having a good time which adds to the atmosphere.
This is a quaint, intimate spot for coffee and snacks! I went here for breakfast a few times and I was not disappointed. I love that it supports its community. They're not shy in promoting their values in social justice which can be seen in their mural, posters, and basically its entirety of the store. Support your local coffee shop!
I took my mom to this coffee shop and we loved it. She said it was the best latte she’s had in a very long time, and my americano was excellent! We couldn’t resist their pastries either so we wound up sharing a giant cookie. The employees were very helpful and were happy to answer my annoying questions. This place feels very comfortable, not pretentious, and offers high quality goods. A rare find for sure. They have tons of great literature, artwork, and stickers as well. I got a Vine Deloria book, couple stickers, two espresso drinks, a cookie, and a pound of coffee for such a reasonable price I asked if they had made a mistake ringing me up. Overall, I would highly recommended this coffee shop: A+.
Delicious coffee! I had two cups. And oh my goodness- the empanadas, I had two mushroom and cheese and they were so damn good I wish I had bought extra to bring home. This is my new favorite spot. Staff is very friendly, cage is bright and comfortable.
So I wanted to try this place for myself after all the fuss on the news. I support law and order but also the constitutional right to protest. I came here 100% open minded. Not only did I find a one-of-a-kind harmonious environment, but one that WAS NOT fake or cruel like big chain coffee places that I'm used to. This place welcomed and retained customers of all backgrounds and colors from what I saw. Something very special. Everything I ate and drank here was delicious and one of a kind. No bad vibes or tension. Just love and java. Very impressed.
I love this place. Community-minded coffee shop that doesn’t cater to the gentry, and tries to maintain a space for folks who have lived in the neighborhood. It is NOT anti-white. It is anti-white supremacy. Notice that all the one-star reviews are white folks who are feeling butt-hurt because this place acknowledges their privilege. This white dude appreciates that. And the coffee, people, empanadas, and bookstore are fantastic.
So, the ratings mean nothing as there are unemplyed racist trolls rating it a single star. This is a lovely locally owned all inclusive space, unlike starbucks. They have amazing food options including vegan, local art, their coffee is locally roasted and is one of the best in the bay. The space is very cute, has nice lighting and is child friendly.
Great atmosphere, Mat and young women working there were wonderful very inviting, I had latte, 3 of my friends had cappuccinos, and one had hot chocolate we all loved the coffees we also tried the empanadas they were delicious. They keep the coffee shop very clean the artwork is great, I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Negative reviews are based on political differences. Just in case you're wondering why it's got such a low score. Honestly, I'd probably give it 4 stars but want to balance out the negative reviews a bit. I won't get into the political debate. But it was a nice local spot. It didn't feel expensive or exclusive, which I think it is the whole point. Simple, accessible, with plenty of space and great light. They have tables for laptops and tables for conversation. I appreciate that. I parked on the street, don't think there was a lot. Had no trouble finding parking. Coffee was very solid. I got an iced decaf latte. Probably not the ideal drink for judging coffee quality, but I it was definitely at or above average compared to Starbucks, etc. Sadly, forgot to take any pictures, but I hope to be back. I highly recommend stopping in and checking it out. Plan to try the empanadas next time!
Love the vibe here and the people are great! Also a big fan of their lattes and treats
Visited this coffee shop earlier in the week. The staff is super friendly and the coffee and pastries are amazing. It's a neat little shop with merchandise and they host little pop up events with special food. They're definitely going to become part of my weekend routine. Edit: forgot to mention they carry vegan treats like pastries(concita and donuts) and sometimes specialty drinks (vegan horchata). This is what made me explore over and has kept me going every weekend. :) love them!
The folks here are friendly, the establishment is very clean and the coffee + food is excellent. No cockroaches. The repetitiveness of the one star reviews makes it clear they are bogus and solely political. An incredible community oriented shop that should be supported!
Great coffee and pastries! Beautiful neighborhood shop that’s worth going out of your way for. Truly a business for positive, community-based change that’s interested in facilitating opportunities for the underserved population of our wonderful Oakland. Support!
Amazing lattes and food. Love the vibe here and the staff 10/10
Everytime this place gets low ratings more people show up... Its soooo packed here and people share seats and tables like family you never had. This place will end up expanding because people will congregate in places they feel safe at. Standing room is more like social room. The most communal coffee shop Ive been too. Coffee is good, environment feels so good. Love the homegirl spinning 70 mexican music. The art is amazing.
I get dirty chais and FTPs and they’re amazing. Strong enough to put a pep in my step. So grateful to have a coffee shop that is brave enough to not serve the army of the rich so close to me. Very thankful the correct politics are part of this business. Always so excited to see what delicious pastries and fun events yall have lined up! Thank you for all you do.
bomb spot with a cute photo booth, solid menu, sweet people, and amazing art. i feel safe here knowing they have deep roots in the community and prioritize community defense and solidarity, instead of licking boots! el pueblo unido jamás será vencido❤️🔥
This is my favorite coffee shop in Oakland. I visit every time I come in from out of town. Love the food, art, the vibes, the politics 10/10
Came here for Floral Tea Power 😋 bill total was $13.12 for a drink, empanada, and a cookie so it was affordable too, I love this place!
Sweet people, great service, excellent full spectrum food menu from sweets to breakfast bagels and burritos, real great community vibe. I go there every weekend and it’s always a highlight!
LOVE the vibes here!! the community, the art, and pop-ups! think I've had a vegan concha since going vegan. in general they have tons of vegan & gluten free options that were all delicious
One of my favorite cafes in the bay. It's super clean, great lighting, every one who works there has been so nice and the coffee is from a great local roaster. It's a great place to read, get work done, or just hang out with friends. I feel like most of the people giving negative reviews didn't actually go to the cafe, they're just angry about what they've heard on the news.
Music was a tad loud for a meeting, but good playlist.
Always friendly. Always great coffee and snacks. Plus, lots of art and reading material. I could spend all day here.
Best vibes, food and drinks. Employee owned and it shows. The atmosphere is welcoming to all and chill. The food is delicious and everything is set up mindfully and purposefully. Love everything about it except it needs more comfy seating ;)
I love hasta muerte. Good politics, friendly staff, and it’s a worker owned coop <3 I have a lot of respect for them
I love this place! It's one of the few things I truly miss about living around the corner. Folks who are uncomfortable with this establishment need to keep in mind that a business has the right to refuse service to anybody. If they feel that a guest is making their clientele or space feel unsafe, they have the right to deny them service. No matter who they are. Plenty of establishments are not comfortable with weapons inside, and certain occupations require their employees to carry weapons, so those folks always have the option to come when they are not on duty, as long as they are respectful. Oh, and the cold brew is delicious + they have empanadas. I only wish they were open more!
Have always felt safe and welcome here. Was lucky to be a part of their soft launch and became a regular here with my small children and baby. Love their coffee and the atmosphere!
absolutely love this coffee shop. I wish I was closer so I could come more often. the coffee is SO good, the employees are so kind, and they have a little shop in the back that supports local artists! love that they put their morals before anything else. a must try when in Oakland 💛
Lovvveee this coffee shop. I feel super safe & welcomed here. Coffee is delicious and so is the food. Suggest the matcha or marzapán latte! Chill atmosphere that doesn't feel overwhelming & feels like a breath of fresh air amongst the chaos of the world. Great educational reading materials & clothing / handmade goods by local artists / creators. Staff are authentic and genuine. I'm grateful I don't get blasted with fake smiles & obnoxious scripted greetings when I go in. If it's not your cup of coffee, go get your cup of coffee at any other bootlicker cafe 💁♀️
This is by far one of the 2 best coffee shops in the Bay. Not just Oakland. The staff are always kind and friendly as hell, the food is always served piping hot and tastes hella fresh (the empanadas are delectably delicious if you're a first time customer looking for a recommendation), and the atmosphere is amazing. You can tell that a lot of love goes into everything they do here. The decor is dope and reminds me of the kind of place that the likes of MLK, Dolores Huerta and Bobby Seale would all be comfortable in. As far as I know, it's worker owned/operated and HM is as much of a staple of the community as the street it sits on (Fruitvale Ave) itself. You can tell from the mural on the side of the building that they aren't just a part of the community. They embody everything the neighborhood and the people born and raised here stand for and always will. What gets misconstrued as hate is just a deep empathy and love for the most marginalized members of our community and that's what I love most about this place. It gets 10000000/10
Honestly, my fave coffee place of all time. And I love coffeeee. Whenever I'm somehow around the area of Fruitvale, I always check if Hasta Muerte is open so I can get myself a treat! Love the non Caffeine lattes!!
This place has such good food and drinks and is such a cool and safe environment for people who are compassionate and believe in human rights. They even have some great reading material and an adorable little art market happens outside once a month! No bootlickers or boots allowed 🥰 Viva Hasta Muerte, VIVA PA LE STINA Y CHING4 LA MIGRA‼️✊🇵🇸🐷🚫🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏴🌍💞
Smoothie was really well priced and delicious!
This place is ALWAYS DELICIOUS. If I'm driving by or in the area, I have to stop. Not only is the coffee great and flavorful but their food is so yummy!!! I got a coyota this time, raspberry flavored! So much yum. Wish I had taken a picture before stuffing it into my mouth 😂 Also recommend checking out their art and gift section in the back past the barista area. I always find something I need to take home and love supporting local artists :)
Came here with some girlfriends. Had a cappuccino and the kale and mushroom empanadas! Everything was so good! Cosy vibes and friendly staff too. Highly recommend.
Wonderful coffee place! The menu has lots of really yummy options, the staff is kind and polite and service is fast. The atmosphere is cozy and they have lots of work from local artists around. I really liked the avocado toast, it had a sauce that was good.
Humans welcome, people tolerated. One of the best hidden gems in Oakland. Come check it out expand your mind and feel what the world of humans could be like. Much love to my friends at Hasta Muerte
This is the place to Lime in. Open air feeling, old school vibes and a part of the vibrant community that Fruitvale represents. I first tried a Mazapan latte in Newman, CA last September. This is yummy too and the guava coyota to go with. Plus great conversations with locals.
Really liked the gluten free beef empanada, and gluten free avocado toast was great, esp for $7.99. They also have GF chocolate chip cookie but today it would take about 10 mins to bake individually. My latte was solid, oat milk was creamy but somehow could use more kick. 5 stars for the overall lovely service , and 5 for the funky, neighborhood feel, and l, just so happy when places go the extra mile for GF and vegan, thank you!
Casual, airy cafe with rad gift shop of goods made by local artists. Cafe workers were friendly, and the empanadas were delicious. I’ll definitely be back soon.
This is a neighborhood gem! Everything is good in here! I loooove the root yourself brevages they have… it’s like a mix of syrup tea milks idk it’s soooo good, their coffee is bomb as well! Service always 10/10 and the food is really good! I enjoy their pastries so much! And they have a machine to take pics
we visited on our drive back home to LA as i had done a little bit of research and this place was one of the highest rated in the area and well deserved because their mazapan latte was absolutely delicious. i noticed that there was a lot of 1 star reviews and after a quick glance.... i saw why. lol. don't be like those people and do yourself a favor, enjoy an empanada and be sure to grab an iced latte and support your local small business. there was a very nice mural on the side of the building depicting community and you could really feel the kindness and attention to customer service from the staff who served us.
Awesome place! WiFi, and chill atmosphere. I received excellent customer service and the coffee was so good I got two cups. I will go back to try the empanadas. Children’s play area was a nice touch for parents. Easy parking which is rare in Oakland. My new fave coffee spot.
I got the mazapan latte (half sweet) w oatmilk, vegan empanada and a fig coyotas. All delicious, esp the mazapan latte, and I'm definitely returning!
I ordered the gold brew latte. So creamy with the oat milk. The homemade cafe de olla syrup is always EXCELLENT in a latte. Overall, this spot never misses the mark on serving excellent coffee!

I got an amazingly delicious Creamy Gold Brew. I appreciate what this business stands for. Just visiting from Minnesota, thank you for the coffee!
Speciality creamy cold brew is so Good >>> amazing staff n experience !!!!! Good for doing some work. Highly recommend
Love coming here! The drinks are always so well made and delicious. Staff are kind and were able to let me know things I could have based on my allergies. I also love visiting the little shop of locally made goods from clothes, herbal medicines, and more! 10/10 would recommend ✨
Showing love and solidarity from one coffee shop to another. Saludos from Colorado. 📚🤎
Solid little spot keeping the vibes good. Places like this are important because they are transparent about what you support when you patronize the business. It makes it easy to identify a safe space and be comfortable spending your money in a way that helps the local community.
We stopped in at the recommendation of our local hosts. If you’re a Starbucks person or a cop, don’t come here. This is a real neighborhood cafe. The community is outstanding, the people are incredibly nice and social, and the chai I had was amazing. Vegan baked goods are also delicious. Definitely a highlight of our stay in Oakland!

Love this spot, with great vegan food options, and a great activist spirit. I really wish they didn't charge an extra $1 for non-dairy milks, doesn't make sense when it's an otherwise vegan-friendly place.
I've been here twice now and each time my husband and I have had really great coffee. The cold brew I had yesterday was SO GOOD--super chocolatey! I decided to buy some beans since we were out of coffee at home. Just made a cup (Honduras single origin light roast) and I'll definitely be back to try out their other single origins. I only took one star off for customer service--it wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Overall I'm really glad there's a clutch coffee shop right down the street from my house!!
Very cozy with friendly staff. Coffee was very good, and reasonable priced. All walk of life is welcome.
Good espresso drinks. Nice place to hangout.
Very cozy with friendly staff. Coffee was very good, and reasonable priced. All walk of life is welcome.
Ummmm didn’t get to try the mazapán latte I saw in a TikTok video and came here for. Got a tumeric-cinnamon latte and I’m so sad to say that Peet’s version was better (and I dislike most chain coffee shops). My partner got a lavender flavored coffee and it was better but still not worth it. We got some empanadas and the price was average-expensive ($6 for a medium sized empanada) for meh empanadas. I wouldn’t go back and don’t recommend going out of your way to come here unless you’re specifically looking for a place to chill or work out of.
Staff was rude. But that’s not a huge deal - nasty food is though. Oh, after you try the coffee, you’re going to hope for ‘la muerte.’
First time ever going to Oakland. I heard great reviews on this coffee shop. I decided to go there and get some “delicious” coffee. But in reality it was horrible nasty coffee, it was burnt and the milk probably was expired. Plus they try to brain wash you by saying police brutality exist. They got angry when I asked for proof, because I’ve done research on this topic and I found out that police brutality does not exist at all. Anyways a coffee shop should just be selling coffee, and not push an agenda on people.
Keep your politics and your business separate. And to go as far as discriminating against people for their jobs is absolutely ridiculous. Lucky for them they aren’t missing much as the coffee and food is pretty terrible anyways.
I heard good things about this coffee spot but I was lied to. The cashier was very rude and felt like she didn’t wanna be there. My drink took 20 min and my empanadas were super cold. The place was very dirty and looked like it hasn’t been cleaning in years. Unfortunately huge disappointment
11/17 I was very excited to introduce my boyfriend to this coffee shop. Everything was fine until it was time to pick up our order and the lady with short hair in a purple beanie was extremely RUDE and gave us attitude when we let her know we were waiting for our drinks. I also peeped she gave attitude to the girl who picked up her order before us. Completely ruined this experience for us!!!!! Disappointed
Last week, my friend and I stopped by recently and honestly left pretty disappointed. The coffee and the customer service were horrible. From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed uninterested and not very welcoming. We felt more like an inconvenience than customers. When we asked a simple question, the response felt short and dismissive, and the overall vibe was just uncomfortable. A coffee shop should feel warm and inviting, but that wasn’t our experience here. Because of how we were treated, my friend and I won’t be coming back. Hopefully they can work on improving the customer service, because that really makes all the difference.
